15 questions for 15 friends
Tagged by @elveny and @johaerys-writes -- thank you, my loves!
ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE? My mom. Apparently my dad really wanted to name me after my mom and she was like "ugh really fine" LOL. My dad is also named after his dad, who was named after his dad... REAL ORIGINAL. This is going to sound like a total humblebrag, but my mom and I are both published academic authors, so we have to use our middle initials to distinguish who published what 🙃
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED? Probably in therapy last Thursday LOL. Though I got a little prickly-eyed earlier this week watching the episode of ATLA where Zuko and Aang go on their lifechanging field trip to the Sun Warriors' secret village 😂❤
DO YOU HAVE KIDS? Nope! Childless by choice.
WHAT SPORTS DO YOU PLAY/HAVE YOU PLAYED? I played T-ball when I was 5 or 6 (hated it, cried so much that my parents pulled me out LMAO) and I was on the volleyball team in Grade 6. I'm left-handed and I had a habit of serving into the wall, unfortunately, and the habit got worse when I was nervous. During one game, they took pity on me so much that they paused the game until I got the ball over the net. I was fucking humiliated and have never played a team sport since then. 🤣💀 Re: other physical activities, I like dancing! I've taken a ton of different kinds of dance classes including swing, salsa, bellydancing, and Bollywood dancing, and loved all of them!
DO YOU USE SARCASM? No. Me? Never. 🙃🤣 Forreal though yes. All the time.
WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE? Uh...! I don't know if there's any one specific thing? I usually take in an "overall impression" of appearance. Vague, but that's all I've got. If the question was "what's the first thing you notice in people you're attracted to", that might be a different story 🤣
WHAT'S YOUR EYE COLOUR? Brown.
SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS? I am going to copy Johaerys's answer and say it doesn't matter to me, as long as the story was good. But also, who says scary movies/horror media can't have happy endings?? 🤣Haunting of Hill House, anyone? (Bittersweet, maybe, but it counts as happy to me!)
ANY TALENTS? Would it be wretched if I said I feel like writing might be a talent? Whatever, I'm saying it. 🤣😅
WHERE WERE YOU BORN? In a hospital in the same city where I currently live! Which I will chose not to reveal openly! 🤣
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES? Writing! It takes up a solid 75-90% of my free time. Also gaming (which I might count into the writing time since it often becomes Research™ for the writing 🤣). I also enjoy baking and cooking, though I don't know that I'd count those as hobbies since they're necessary ADLs?
DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS? A cat named Meeko. She is my daemon. We can never be apart when I am home. Case in point, a photo taken in real-time while completing this quiz:
Tumblr media
HOW TALL ARE YOU? 5'3".
FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL? Uhhh... what level of school are we talking here? In undergrad, I took an incredible linguistics/history course about writing systems, and that was probably my favourite class ever. I took a course during undergrad about different schools of psychotherapy that was pretty damned influential too.
DREAM JOB? I also loved Johaerys's answer here: "I don't think there's any sort of job anyone could do in this capitalist hellscape we're all currently living in that would be enjoyable enough to make up for, well... living in a capitalist hellscape." I'm lucky enough to work in the public healthcare system so I'm pretty safe from the worst of capitalism, I guess, though my job (speech-language pathologist) is one I chose more for practicality (certainty of employment) than because I was really passionate about it. If I could do something else and not have to worry about money, I would either want to be a fiction editor, or a sex therapist.
Tagging forward to @ranaspkillnarieth @iamcayc @heroofshield @fantasy-girl974 @hellas-himself @midnightacrobat @alyssalenko @vorchagirl @elinorbard @stuffforthestash @mwasaw @lordofthenerds97 @y0ureviltwin @ladyofthelake91 @perhapsrampancy @cha-mij and genuinely, anyone else who wants to share!!! WIP Title Game
@chickywickers and @emimayooo both tagged me to do a WIP title meme. Thank you!! I do love a tag meme.
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it. Tag as many people as wips.
I honestly have so many WIPs; it's a problem. Instead of tagging this entire site, I've picked the most potential to be finished 😀

To 10 Games
Thanks so much for the tag @thevikingwoman! In no particular order and no particular criteria. Just games that have meant a lot to me for one reason or the other over the years.
tagging @wintersongstress @muses-circle @elveny @alyssalenko and anyone else. I have no clue who is here anymore, lol.
1. Resident Evil 4
Tumblr media
Though I love the remake and plan on replaying it soon, the original has to be on this list for not only being nostalgic, but just for being a big staple of my time in high school. I played this game way after it released, but it was such a fun escape when I needed it. Ada and Leon were the first couple I really shipped and their dynamics still appear in my writing today, even subtly. honestly I think it's also fair to say Ada also taught me how to flirt. lol.
2. Kingdom Hearts.
Tumblr media
This was the first game I played where the story impacted me enough for me to cry at the end. Yes it’s not exactly great and it’s very cheesy and weird, but I feel the need to include it because this was the game that made me realize how impactful the medium of games could be in terms of storytelling.
3. Dragon Age
I’m sure you knew this would be on here! I’ve spoken so much about it, but let it suffice to say it got me back into writing and now I’m a much better writer because of the things I’ve learned and developed along the way! Will give the edge to Inquisition over Origins on this one, but I feel like a lot of people don't know how much I replayed origins, and in fact played it all the way back when it first came out.
4. Tomb Raider Anniversary
Tumblr media
Been thinking about these games a lot recently. I do love the remakes but I have to say I’m partial to this Lara, of Legend and Anniversary variety. She likes adventures and history and she explores and goes to cool locations, and at a time in my life where I was just starting to realize how much travel means to me, I got to vicariously travel. I also think these games are a good blend of puzzle, exploration, and action.
5. Red Dead Redemption 2
Tumblr media
This was the game that solidified my feelings that story telling in games not only rivals that of other mediums, but sometimes can even overtake it. Playing RDR2 feels like reading a long epic novel where the characters become your best friends by the end.
6. Last of Us
Tumblr media
It would feel weird not to have this game on here because I truly think it is one of the best games that has ever been made. I just like to pretend the sequel doesn’t exist. Cough.
7. Assassins Creed 2
Tumblr media
I love so many of these games—odyssey is definitely up there as well but I have to give this one to 2. I played it when I was 16 after coming home from Europe for the first time and enjoyed the hell out of running around Florence after I had been there. I did also have fun playing odyssey again after being in Greece. Couldn’t find the place I jumped from in Paros I was so sad.
8. Okami
This game is very much pure nostalgia. beautiful cell shaded animation and compelling use of Japanese mythology.
Tumblr media
9. Mass Effect 2
Tumblr media
I don't quite love ME as much as Dragon age due to my own preference for fantasy/medieval, but I love 2 for where it took the story/characters. Overall, ME is one of the few, if only, pieces of SciFi media I like.
10. Witcher 3
If you put a gun to my head and told me to name what I thought the best video game ever released was, I'd say Witcher 3. I have fond memories of playing this game while eating pizza in college. I also just love the animations for this game. In a time of "realism is the way" in video games, to me it's the more animated style that is much more timeless. (this is another reason I like Baldur's Gate right now)

I'm finally writing again, and it's original fic at that! I'm so excited!! It's adapted from an RP I had with a friend almost 20 years ago, and we recently talked about it, and now we're reworking it and I love it!
„Sag mal, ist alles okay? Du bist irgendwie… blass?“, fragte er schließlich, und Alex schnaubte amüsiert. „Ich bin ein Vampir.“

OC Name Meanings
Thank you so much for the tag @elveny! Your answers were so good and thoughtful that I feel like mine are going to be so dumb in comparison LMAO.
Rules: Search and post the meaning of your OC’s name (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! bonus if you can find something for their last name too.
*********
All right [cracks knuckles] I'll start from the top.
Mass Effect (original trilogy): Commander Adriana Shepard. I named her after my husband because he introduced me to the game. NOT VERY ORIGINAL, but named with love? 🤣
Mass Effect Andromeda: Mara Ryder. I honestly cannot remember why I chose this name for her. Vibes, probably? I often just pick a name that "feels" right...
Dragon Age Inquisition: okay, I made up sooo many fucking Lavellans, and when I first started writing, most of them were just named after Game of Thrones characters. This includes Elia, Arya, and Lyanna.
(By now, you may have noticed that all my OCs have names ending in "a". I do like names ending in "a." I am consistent that way. 😂)
Athera Lavellan is the DA:I OC whose name is the most thought-out. I borrowed it from FenxShiral's Elvhen book of names, and it means 'part of a dream', which thematically tied into her romance with Abelas.
But then there's Tamaris, which is another name that I chose because of vibes (it "felt right"). I will admit that I know someone named Tamaris and I love the name, but I was also surprised to find that this is coincidentally a name from FenxShiral's name dictionary - a fact that I used in my fic of her and Felassan.
Dragon Age 2: Rynne Hawke. Her name was also chosen for vibes; 'Rynne' struck me as a kind of fun, playful name. I think in-world, she is named after a great-aunt. (It's been a while since I revisited her, I think this is the lore. 🤣)
Dragon Age Origins: Yara Mahariel. BACK TO THE TRIED AND TRUE METHOD OF USING GAME OF THRONES NAMES. 🤣💀
Baldur's Gate 3: my main Tav is Eilaena Valderol, aka Brynn Bladetongue. THIS WAS THE NAME I THOUGHT ABOUT THE MOST. Her birth name, Eilaena, is a drow name broadly inspired by the goddess Eilistraee. Her last name is her mother's name, which I used a D&D name generator to come up with. Her criminal alias, Brynn , was borrowed from an adventurer she admired who was a regular at the theater-tavern where she grew up. 'Bladetongue' is a stagename-like surname that she came up with; in her words, it's masturbatory (flattering herself for her silver tongue), and she likes the alliteration. She's half-wood elf/half-drow, and she purposely gave herself a human-sounding alias to fuck with people LOL.
My other BG3 OC is Tavanah. I liked the idea of using the default "non-special" name of 'Tav', but making it special by having her romance, Rolan, be the only one who calls her by her full name.
Tagging forward: once again, to genuinely anyone who wants to play!!! But let's start with @seabirdsong @iamcayc @novarunestone @elinorbard @crackinglamb @johaerys-writes @alyssalenko @vorchagirl @hollyand-writes

Writer Game
I was tagged by @barbex
I’m going to have two sets of answers for most of these because writing for fanfic and writing my original stuff are two different processes
Do you write in order?
For the most part, yes. Especially it it’s a long piece or novel. if I don’t write in order, I will lose track of what happens when which will be a disaster
There was a recent project, a romance novella, where I got stuck on one part so I skipped ahead and wrote the chapters that came after and then went back and that worked well. Mostly because that project was short and tight and not lore heavy
Do you start with something in particular?
Not really. For fanfic I just start wherever the brainworms tell me to. For original fic, I’ve already outlined or skeleton drafted and once I determine pacing, I start with whatever makes sense. My romance novella started out with smut and a smidge of world placement. My first book in my fantasy series starts a bit slow to lull readers, and the second is faster.
How fully formed does your writing come out on the first try?
Fanfic is pretty much fully formed. I do minimal editing. it’s my hobby and fun writing so I don’t worry about making it better or good or anything. Blood Queen is the only exception here. It was my first project after years of not writing and I didn’t quite tell the story I originally wanted to tell, so I’m starting it over.
Original works take however many passes they need to make them ready to publish. When I’m happy with the story I’ve told and how I’ve told it, I do line edits and then send it off into the world
How many drafts do you go through?
Usually only one for fanfic. I think I’ve rewritten a chapter once because I didn’t like it.
Original fic gets about 2-3 drafts. I often count my outlines as a draft because they’re more like skeleton drafts and easy to build off of. Then I have the “first draft” and then usually the second draft is the one I mostly line edit into a final draft
Tell me about your process?
For fanfic: Have idea. Make some notes about it if I don’t have time to write it. Daydream about it a little. If its long, outline it, if it isn’t, just bang it out. Edit for clarity. Post.
Original fic: Get idea. Make notes if I’m working on something else and see where I can shuffle it into the schedule based on what it is, how long it is, and how full formed the idea is. If no schedule, goes on idea pile.
Outline/skeleton draft with character sheets and some worldbuilding notes, though I discover a lot of things while drafting so if I don’t have a clear idea, I don’t worry about it. Write a nonsense first line to break the blank page curse and start drafting. I like sprinting to get words out without thinking too hard. Once I finish the draft, I put it away for at least two weeks and shift to something else. Send it to @natsora and bother her with questions lol. Read it through without making notes. Retype the draft, add bits I think it’s missing, change around some wording. Put it away again. Reread. Fix any glaring issues. Line edit when I’m happy with the story. Set up publishing stuff.

WIP MEME!
Was tagged by @alyssalenko and @judithmactir Thank you!
I'll tag @master-dellamorte @mightymizora @rawliverandcigarettes and @hannahrama Only if you feel like doing this, of course.
This is from a horror type fic I've been wanting to do for some time about the Yahg that gets loose in Sur'Kesh during the Cerberus attack in ME3.
.
"Nothing on the scanner. Unlikely anything would have come this way. Unless tracks were erased"
The sargeant shook his head to remove some of the drops of water from his head "The disturbance of recently moved ground would not have faded so quickly. Place the drones and readjust the antenna. We have to get out of the jungle before it gets dark"
The salarian soldier placed the minuscule machines that were no larger than bugs and visually not different from them on the trees and the leaves of the taller plants, ensuring a direct video broadcast back to base. Readjusting the antenna to its original position, he returned to his commanding officer at a hurried trot, not wanting to linger any longer than he had to in such a remote zone of the perimeter.
The salarian tightened the grip tightened the grip on his Venom shotgun as he threw one quick and final glance at the now beeping anthena before turning back around, the burning sensation of eyes burrowing into his neck and watching his every move becoming unbearable with each passing second.
As the 2 salarians faded from sight, the 8 eyes that had been tracking their every move finally blinked, and the yahg moved silently as he adjusted his position, moving until he was high enough to keep all the drones within his sight. He had learn the pattern of another patrol, now he would learn the behavior of their machines.

OC name meanings
Thanks for the tag @elveny!
Rules: Search and post the meaning of your OC’s name (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! bonus if you can find something for their last name too.
Maybe talking about my OCs will get me to write? 🤷🏻‍♀️
Ophelia (Ophelie) Lydia Asherson:
She goes by “Ophelie” in the text but her given name is actually Ophelia, because her dad is a professor of western literature and also a nerd. According to google, Ophelia is a Greek girl's name meaning "help," "aid," or "advantage.” didn’t know it had greek origins, but that makes sense. In a more meta sense it was chosen because of its connection to Shakespeare (talked about in text actually.) her looks have changed over the long, long years, but her name has always been Ophelie.
I like the idea that she starts to go by the French variation of her name as a slight way to protest her namesake’s fate. Lydia also has greek origins, but notably it’s a common name in Hawaii because that was the queen of Hawaii’s English name. And it’s Oph’s mother’s name.
Rowan Kosta Hartley:
Rowan is Irish for “red-haired” and is also the name of a tree. I always liked this name and thought it sounded masculine and weighty. I also like the “earthy” connection to the name. Kosta (or Kostas) comes from the Greek meaning "steady or stable" which is actually perfect for him. Canonically he's named after the father he never met--which was actually "Kostas." he spoke little English however and the intricacies of Greek male naming conventions were lost in translation, so his mother just refers to him as "Kosta."
"Hartley" is a stage name (his mother's now his) and it doesn't have any interesting meanings, but I do like the fact that "heart" is literally in the name, fitting. It was also the actress Vivien Leigh's real last name, and the two are based off of Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier.
these names flew into my head 11 years ago, and at this point in my life they're about as normal to me as my own name or my best friend's name. Ophelie was actually conceived as French (and it was actuallly Ophelie,) but here we are.

Fanfic Preferences
I was tagged for this by my dear friend @alyssalenko. Though just at a glance, I'm pretty sure most of this will be a case of porque no los dos. I would love to read more widely, but time and convenience limit my exposure and reading time in the genre. (Too few audio books.)
smut or fluff?
meet cute or slow burn?
brooding angst or unrestrained joy?
“one bed” trope or coffeeshop au?
fake dating or established relationship?
enemies to lovers or total strangers?
hurt/comfort or domestic bliss?
mutual pining or unrequited love?
forbidden romance or happily ever after?
canon compliance or alternate universe?
reader insert or original character?
oneshot drabble or chaptered fic?
Going to tag some of my favorite people both new and old: @theoriginalladya, @painterofhorizons, @dandenbo, @shadoedseptmbr, and @inuy21.

OC Name Meanings
tagged by @alyssalenko If anyone would like to do this, feel free to!
Rules: Google and post the meaning of your OC’s name (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! bonus if you can find something for their last name too
Rose Shepard/Cousland: meaning "famous type." Considering that Rose Shepard is known for being the Hero of Elysium and Rose Cousland is the Hero of Fereldan and Queen of said country and everyone knows who they are, the name is fitting.
Aaliyah Trevelyan: Arabic origins, means “rising, ascending” and “highborn, exalted, sublime.” That does fit her, since she's from a noble family and does rise to the challenges of being Inquisitor. She was a teaching assistant in the Circle and then a Teacher at the College of Mages post-Tresspasser so she loves sharing her magical knowledge with other mages.
Cal Adaar: devotion; faithful; whole-hearted; brave. Cal is a warrior and Tal-Vashovth but he also has a caring side and is loyal to those who are loyal to him.
Talia Cadash: Dew of God; Flourishing, blooming. I would say that this doesn't really fit Talia because she's cold and calculating, keeps parts of herself hidden so the Carta doesn't completely own her. Only when she starts to romance Josephine does she soften somewhat but still has a hard edge to her personality.
Carolina Blackburn: Latin, from Germanic. Meaning 'freeholder', 'song of joy', 'strong', 'beautiful' Carolina doesn't start out a strong person, but during the year she's away from the castle she starts to become it. She realizes the responsibility that she's taking on once she becomes Queen and does make mistakes but learns from them and becomes a great leader. She's also very pretty so that fits as well.
Maxine Wainwright: Latin origin, meaning "greatest." That doesn't really fit her because she's academic smart and kind of a wallflower. She's more of an academic than socializer and while she does kind of go out of her comfort zone when traveling to Atlantis, at the same time she never really leaves the city.
Annabel Ryder: “favored grace” and “loving.” It sort of fits her? She was the somewhat "favorite" of Ellen, and because she's biotic Alec does go out of his way to make sure that she has the proper training (before he tanks everyone's career that is). In my ME:A canon, she does go more with her heart than head and ends up loving Reyes despite everything.
