Unitipated Soundz - Iskomplazi

we listened to this album today and Unticipated Soundz did not disappoint. We really enjoyed this album they put out mid-december last year because it just shows how much they have continued to evolve the Gqom sound to the point that they emerged their own sub-genre uThayela (which means corrugated roof according to their Spotify bio) within the Gqom sound. Even though a lot of people often talk about how Gqom did not reach the level of fame and spread like Amapiano did like it's a negative, we really appreciate how Gqom as a sound has travelled more organically while still remaining connected to the Durban's nightlife There is just something so hypnotic and infectious about Gqom such that your own body and brain starts to move on its own and supply its own riffs to the beats. Unticipated Soundz approach of melding tinkling, chimier and string sounds with very deep bass is very very stimmy to listen to. It just hits your body in the right way that you have to move and then they intersperse their "ear worm"producer tag throughout the track. The SA cats produce some of the best dance music hands down in our opinion. We are very curious about the Unticipated Soundz album process cause we know it's a three member producing crew because we know they both do individual and collective live sets in the sets so we wonder if they produce tracks for their albums together or if they produce and submit independently and then listen and select. Sometimes we go to their IG page just to see the shows they are playing and because they are a Gain collective that usually are trying to book club shows, they have to show how danceable their music is for the club. So they do these viral dance challenges and just watching the synergy of South African dances on the music is truly sublime. They move in a very effortlessly groovy way that requires a lot of skills and rhythm ease that is soooooo fluid to watch. Like their style of moving is hella cool and hard to imitate even for Afrikan folks watching them. We really love how Afrikan and afro-diasporic music retains and evolves its relationship with movement and dance even as the sounds shift and morph. We are definitely gonna add a lot of the tracks into our playlist dedicated to South African dance and electronic music.

Pau Walters pasion por la fusión y mestizaje, rompiendo las fronteras de Hip Hop, el lofi, el trap, el old school y géneros experimentales.

Pau Walters, nacido en el centro de Palma de Mallorca de una madre inglesa y un padre catalán. Cuando era aún muy joven su familia decidió mudarse a un pueblo llamado Elvas en Portugal, y una vez obtuvo la mayoría de edad se mudó a Barcelona, donde inició su carrera como músico y productor, llegando a formar parte de una banda durante 2 años. Como pueden imaginar Pau destaca por la fusión y mestizaje, tanto como productor ha trabajado en infinidad de proyectos siempre consiguiendo adaptarse a las necesidades artísticas y a los distintos subgéneros que sus compañerxs necesitaban; y como cantante ya que debido a su pasado multicultural lleno de idiomas, podemos oír cómo fluye entre el Castellano, Portugués e Inglés sin dificultad ninguna.

Después de acabar su FP de Sonido en Barcelona, está de vuelta a la isla y ya se encuentra colaborando con artistas locales siendo introducido a la crew Kantalas Mob, lanzando Ernesto que ha conseguido casi 5000 streams en Spotify.

Sus últimos lanzamientos como Carnal (también hay una versión en directo con Live Deck) o Tengo nos muestran su cómo puede variar de géneros musicales, lanzando anteriormente también Grate en Portugués.

En definitiva su objetivo como artista es provocar la ilusión de que en cada lanzamiento nace un artista nuevo y reinventado.

Y para celebrar este año nuevo, en vez de salir de fiesta he lanzado mi mixtape Avant Garde vol.1 y estoy buscando promocionarlo al mundo!

Tomando inspiración tanto de las vanguardias del s.XX como sagas de mixtapes clásicas como The Carter de Lil Wayne o Blueprint de Jay -Z.

Avant Garde vol.1 es el primer episodio de esta saga donde se exploran temas políticos, como espirituales, la sexualidad, la identidad cultural e incluso se re-crean mitologías griegas como en Cnidaria que cuenta el cuento de Medusa desde una nueva perspectiva y podéis verlo en este link.

Sonoramente no existen fronteras, subgéneros del Hip Hop, el lofi (tanto en portugues como en castellano), trap, el old school, géneros experimentales. Y llegaremos a explorar subgéneros como el drill y el amapiano (en la segunda parte claro…)

Having recently announced the huge news of a brand new Afrodance Soundsystem, the global afrobeats legends Mr Eazi and DJ Edu share the first official ‘Choplife Soundsystem’ single entitled ‘Wena’ which also features vocals from South African artist Ami Faku.

Out 28th April via Choplife Limited the track showcases a future looking, deep afrodance sound, produced by DJ Tárico that continues the Amapiano wave that Mr Eazi has surfed on his latest singles. It features vocals from Ami Faku (one of South Africa’s most streamed artists), who delivers a heartbreaking message in Xhosa, as Eazi responds in English. Theirs is a story of would-be lovers who never quite consummate their connection, a tragedy that can only be resolved in the glow of the dancefloor.

‘Wena’ is also the lead single taken from the soon to drop mixtape ‘Choplife Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles’. Out 28th May, the full length project sees the pair team up with a host of producers, DJs and vocalists on what is one of the most exciting and unique projects in global dance music in years. Choplife Soundsystem derives its name from the popular West African pidgin slang phrase chop life, meaning “enjoy life,” along with the traditional soundsystems that are the backbone of Jamaican music culture.
