Vito Russo (he/him) is a 68 year old Beastkin who works as a Specialty Officer in the Collective Starfleet and looks a lot like Aldis Hodge. His beast form is Ameerega trivittata, the three-striped poison tree frog.
Biography
There are three sides to every story: his, the marks, and the truth.
Asking him about his past would yield a myriad of tales; all of them cursory, reluctantly given, and a lie from start to finish. Women he pursued were entranced by his reluctance, drunk on the victory of his confession and his kisses until they woke sober and alone. Business owners were lulled by his poise, trusting his expensive suits and his confidence with money they’d never see again. Every situation required a mask and the one he wore was always perfect. It wasn’t flawless in the way others lied, it was built with cracks. The fissures of a broken past, a lost love, a failed business; a falsehood that ached of personhood so vehemently he could never be anything other than what he claimed.
But he was.
Once the job was done he never returned, so he never heard his marks’ tales. Some would covet his loss, sure that he’d died in a horrific accident. He’d never have left, he wasn’t that kind of man. Others, usually those who had lost their fortunes, cursed his name and his lineage into the ether. Of course they’d seen it coming, they’d only given him a chance. How could they not have seen it coming? Those too-wide pupils and irises soaked in pitch could only be a snake’s eyes. They’d simply been too trusting, he’d been too persuasive. A weak moment in time, that’s when he’d ensnared them.
Then, there was truth.
None of it mattered to him at all. He’d bed them because it’d been a challenge. Stolen their money because it’d been something to do. He’d wanted to, so he had. None had ever successfully pursued him into a new name so none had ever noticed, but his disappearances were always accompanied by a death. An elder poisoned, a father who’d commit suicide, an aunt who’d drowned, a cousin brutally murdered. Those deaths were the truth — the reason he’d shown up in their lives like a whirlwind and then disappeared as a mist of memories. He was a killer, and that’s all he was.
The personality and black eyes of a snake, his true nature is Ameerega trivittata, the three-striped poison dart frog. While his poison is rarely lethal to those without heart conditions, it has proven useful more than once in his line of work. The Collective ambassador who’d recruited him had known he was poisonous and taken it to full advantage. Fast forward through the trainings, the missions, and the reprimands and end up at the last mission. It’d gone well. The human Collective councilmember was dead just as been asked for, but the manhunt that followed had been hotter than his Venpalen handlers had accounted for.
Paranoid and feeling the pressure, they’d sent him on ‘vacation’ to a newly integrated planet at the edges of the galaxy with the name Vito Russo.
Personality
Vito Russo hasn’t been around long enough, nor had enough direction, to fully form his mask yet. “Do whatever you want so long as you don’t draw too much attention to yourself” is a remarkably unhelpful statement when you have no idea who you are nor what you’re supposed to do with yourself while on ‘vacation’. Relaxing contradicts with everything he’s ever known and the peaceful state of Leora makes his skin itch. How long can he really last here? His life may be in danger in every other system known to the Collective, but he might honestly prefer it to this idyllic nothingness.
Welcome home @russovito! We're happy to have you in Sotiris.

today's funky frog of the day: the three-striped poison frog (Ameerega trivittata)! these beautifully green friends were formerly known as Epipedobates trivittatus and reside in many different countries in western south america. they mainly eat ants. the females are about 55 mm long, and the males are about 42 mm long! the picture shows the male guarding the eggs before they hatch.

The three striped poison frog (Ameerega trivittata) may be poisonous, but she’s also many other things: a great cook, an opera singer, and her mother’s angel. Image © 2006 Shawn Mallan

A fungus devastating frog and toad populations around the globe was believed to be restricted to chilly, mountainous climates – but new research shows it isn’t.
