How’s Reprieve coming along ? I’m very excited to see part 2!!! :))))

Happy to report: all sketches for Part 2 are complete! 🫡 🥳

*Phew* 😮‍💨 sketching is my favorite part but it's also like 85-90% of my work time/process, so I'm thankful it's done at last 😩 Now I just gotta finish the lineart (yuck) and coloring (yay) and add all the dialogue and sfx bits (ohno)

I would post another preview here but I've honestly posted all the little panel previews I would dare to for Part 2 (and besides, I wanna save some surprises you guys to see in the finished pages 🤭)

I do hope you guys will like it 👉👈; I admit I'm a little nervous that it's been so long that it's not really going to live up to expectations 😅

Ik the internet has collectively decided liking Hamilton is cringe bc ppl were writing real person fic, making founding father self inserts, and because anything that gets a big enough following must be mercilessly shunned after 6-12 months but like, I got surprise tickets to a matinee today as a bday gift and it really IS that good?

Like. I'm not USamerican. I'm not sitting here like "oh yes this is absolutely historically accurate and this is how everything went down and how these ppl were irl". Its a story. A historical adaptation. But it's a Damn Good Story. It's thematically compelling. It's emotionally resonant. It's about hunger and imagining death and ambition, about that desperation that drives you towards elusive satisfaction, about legacy and memory and the construction and telling of narratives, it's about UNEARNED GRACE and impossible forgiveness.

Like it really IS a good story, and as someone who only know these people as /characters/ and not historical figures, they're compelling characters? Their arcs are interesting? Hamilton and Burr as foils is so good? Washington as a model of leadership and of regret? Of legacy earned and unearned? ELIZA??MY EVERYTHING?? She's not a "main" character but the narrative hinges on her, when Hamilton is stripped bare of his ambition he thinks of her. She controls and saves the narrative, ultimately. It comes down to Eliza as the centre of it all, best of wives and best of women truly.

The music is a bop, the choreography fun, the set design simple but effective. Like? I get things that have a massive teen fandom can be annoying, and taking it as Historical Fact would be stupid. But as a story???? It really is that good?

Also we had an understudy as Hamilton and he was v young with such a soft higher voice and it REALLY worked esp in act 1 with the whole young scrappy hungry thing. He was also shorter than Eliza which imo. Perfect. Tiny man among a cast of largely very tall men and a few very tall women.

IT REALLY GENUINELY IS GOOD. AND I ENJOY IT IMMENSELY #its a fuckin GOOD story #maybe i am just able to be like. completely separate from the historical aspects bc i am not american #like yeah the real goerge washington owned slaves. evil vile.#but hamilton Goerges is like. a character. they r not the same. he is a compelling portrait of leadership and regret.#one last time makes me cry. i wanna sit under my own vine and fig tree. like damn ok u got me #the hamilton burr foil is obvs contructed for thr show. but its GOOD its NARRATIVELY COMPELLING like.#anyway. i have been really uhhh ******** lately #but this was. this was good.#live theatre in general is just good for me. its just so expensive so i rarely go #but man. the arts. the arts. It's so weird how meat-forward American food culture is that Americans who don't eat meat every day will say to me "yeah I'm basically vegetarian I don't eat meat *every* day" like????? Please I'm begging you to consider other forms of protein the human body is not meant to only eat meat, we are omnivores.

Like. It was honestly pretty easy for me to switch to a vegetarian diet because I grew up in a kosher household and kosher meat is *expensive* so we only had meat on Shabbat (once a week). But then I'll talk to other Americans and they'll talk about eating meat every day and I'm like??? How???

I think humans are meant to eat meat and I think expecting everyone to give it up is wrong, but c'mon this is not sustainable you do not need to be eating meat every single day.

Why is America so meat obsessed?????

Immediate swing around to a character that’s far less obscure and also technically existed when I was last active in the fandom, though I never drew her back then (I doodled everyone in the LoLK cast at least once except for her and Clownpiece). Anyway, I’ve been fascinated with the fact that she purified herself into being nothing more than her grudge so much that almost her entire identity was wiped away, so I wanted to draw her covering her face with a fan with a kitsune on it (used a couple ukiyo-e as reference for drawing that), looked up Chinese fans to make sure I was thinking of the right thing (this kind is called tuanshan), and found out they were historically used in a wedding tradition (queshan) where the bride covers her face with a fan and then reveals it at the end, so I was like. Well, that’s appropriate given that Junko is the Touhou character most likely to have been married at some point, so it all worked out nicely. But then I figured I should probably draw her face anyway, if only to practice giving Touhou characters faces that fit my style and aren’t all the same, and went a bit silly with it lol(k)
