insurance makes sense on a conceptual level but in reality insurance companies turn decently huge profits by a) relying on things not happening, which they mostly don't b) ensuring things mostly don't happen by exluding anything that might make "things happening" more likely and stacking it in their favour and then c) finding any excuse and loophole possible to not cover you if anything ever does happen

like. insurance would be good if it wasn't managed by insurance companies

Ya know I hate to be that guy, but like, a great way we could be helping the environment would be to ease restrictions on auto imports. There's a lot of "pavement queen" trucks that could be easily replaced by smaller, more fuel efficient light duty trucks like the Toyota Hilux, Honda Acty, Nissan Clipper, Daihatsu Hi Jet, and so many others.

It's not like small trucks don't exist, we just ban their import and as a result American auto manufacturers have no need to compete with them. The models exist, but are prohibited from import until they're both technologically obsolete or so high mileage they're not worthwhile purchases for use.

By lifting these bans we can reduce emissions just due to the fact that there will be availability of 4 cylinder trucks and vans, which also helps consumers due to the fuel efficiency. If the American manufacturers refuse to adapt, their downfall is exclusively on themselves.

Just some food for thought.

Thinking about how my high school was consistently one of the top three schools in the state the entire time I was attending it and yet we still had plaster regularly falling from the ceiling.

#there's actually a lot of wild things about it #for example #if you scheduled classes to go there right now you could have them in any of 5 buildings #which range from being right next to each other and a ten minute drive away #our passing periods were six minutes #i once took an ap exam in an old house that had been turned into an insurance company and was in the middle of being renovated into classes #they had to find me a clock #we had very very limited parking space on campus so you had to apply for a spot #most people just found spots in random side streets up to a mile away #and walked the rest of the way #any violence resulted in immediate expulsion so people would go down the street to fight #we had [thing i can't say without truly doxxing myself] hung in our walls which really belonged in a museum and #not a random high school in the American Midwest #in spite of everything other schools regarded us as bougie #probably because we had uniforms #but also every other student has a story about getting hit by a car while walking to school
