Short McCartney album art restoration saga: in 2007, Paul released Amoeba's Secret, an EP of select songs from his 'secret gig' at Amoeba in LA. This is what the cover looked like:
No-- it ain't buffering. This cruddy looking image was printed up on a limited run of CDs and vinyl EP looking all pixellated and distorted on purpose. BUT this was far from the end of this nightmare.
In 2019 the entire concert, remixed and audio-tweaked to near-perfection was released digitally and on vinyl. While this would have been a great time to revise the original, they just added a little handwritten psuedo-Polaroid frame around the pixel mess:
SO earlier today I was listening to this gig and staring at this cover and decided the TIME HAD COME to do something about it. So a few minutes later I had tracked down the original shot and though it was still sourced from a digital video and wasn't super high resolution, it was a damn sight better than what we had:
I then went a step further and made a version where Paul isn't stretched out like Mike Teevee:
Far be it from me to question Paul's artistic choices-- I know I don't know better than the man himself--we live in an era where, at least with your digital music library you can alter and adjust how the music is presented to your liking and that art has bothered me for almost 16 damn years. Now I'll sleep a little more soundly tonight.
