So people talk about extroverts adopting introverts all the time; however, it was recently brought to my attention that I, an introvert, have adopted extroverts in the past.
Adoption by extroverts takes, like, a few seconds. Adoption by introverts, on the other hand, can take weeks or months.
Imagine, for a sec, that you're in class. You've been in this class for a while, and you're just... chilling out, talking with your friends. You notice everyone in the class, including the loner in the back who honestly seems to just want to be left alone. Ok, cool, they can do them. It's not exactly the best day you've had, but it's not the worst. It's fine. It's fine, it's fine, it's totally fine.
Class goes on, you guys all do your own work, you get some notes from some of your friends asking to hang out, and life goes on. You're not really in a mood to hang out, and you kinda want to be left alone. You wave everyone off, and for a second, you're by yourself.
Well, except for the loner in the back. They've stayed in their corner with their book, and it doesn't look like they'll leave, but they're not bugging you or anything, so... meh. You leave them be.
It takes you a few moments, but you manage to pull yourself out of your funk. You think about talking to the loner in the back, but then you decide against it. Probably best not to bug them. Then you move on with your day. No big deal.
A few weeks later, something similar happens. Not the best day, kinda worse than the last, and you don't take any of the notes that are being handed to you by the people around you. Everyone else leaves class at the end, and you just... you need a moment or two. You set your head down on the desk and shut your eyes.
You just need to relax for a little bit. Just a bit of rest, and you'll be fine.
Thunk.
A soft sound, probably not even intended to be heard. You look up, and the loner of the class is leaving. When you look at your desk again, there's something there.
There isn't a note. It's just a small baggie filled with goldfish crackers.
Weird. Ok.
You take the goldfish, and you eat them. They're not drugged or magic or anything, but they're nice. The crunching helps with your mood, oddly enough.
The next day, you make it to class with your usual group, just a little bit before class actually starts, as is normal. The loner is where they usually are, book in hand and--now that you notice it--a little bag of goldfish crackers. They're eating them.
"Hey, gimme a sec," you tell your friends, and you make your way over. You think they wouldn't like a huge group of people by them right now--or ever, honestly, but right now seems like a good thing to start with. When you get close enough, you're not quite sure what to say, but it's not like that's stopped you before.
"Hey," you blurt, and the loner startles for a second. They turn to you. They don't look scared. Just a little disoriented, but still. "You okay?"
"Uh, yeah," they say. There's no stutter or anything to indicate that they're shy or anything. They blink a few times, and the disorientation goes away. "Just got lost in my book. It happens sometimes. What about you? You okay? You looked kind of rough yesterday."
You're... not really sure why they noticed, but they gave you goldfish, so... You shrug.
"It wasn't the best day, but it got better after the goldfish. Thanks for that, by the way."
"No problem," they say. They look... pretty comfortable talking with you, actually. For some reason, you always thought they were shy. "I think your friends are waiting for you."
You turn, and your friend group is staring at you. You grin sheepishly and start to slink away. Before you get too far, you turn back to the loner, who's kept their eye on you.
"Why did you give me the goldfish?" you ask. "It was nice, but... it's not like we ever talked or anything. You didn't have to give me the rest of your snack. You had half a bag left. That could have lasted you, what, another class or two?"
The other shrugged, still comfortable in their seat. "You respected my space."
"Huh?"
"Few weeks ago," said the loner. The day comes back to you very vaguely. It's been a while since then! You've slept! "Sometimes, when people are upset, they stay after class. Then they get better, and they notice me, and they try to talk to me even when I'm reading. Not sure why; it's really awkward. You didn't, though. You kept to yourself, I saw you notice me, and then you let me be. It's one of the nicest things someone's done for me."
That.... sounds very backwards to you, honestly.
"So I guess I just... kept an eye out in case you needed something." They finally look away from you, down at their book. It's a hard cover, and they start fiddling with the front cover, moving it back and forth with gentleness. "Figured it'd be nice to be friends or something."
You stare, just for a moment, and wonder about how backwards it feels. You're usually the kind of person who just goes up and asks to be friends. To wait in the long haul like that...
Well, it's just not your style. If you want a friend, you usually ask. And why fix what isn't broken?
"You wanna hang out sometime?" you ask, and the other lets the hard cover fall safely on the pages. You look at the book and grin. "Tell me about what you're reading or something?"
You've never been interested before, but this person doesn't seem bad. You honestly haven't really given the other person that much thought before. They do a little quirk of a smile, like they're trying not to laugh.
"Sure," they say. "After class?"
Honestly, it's not like you don't have the time. You grin.
"Sure."
You go back to your friends, joining in the chatter with ease, when one of them asks, "Hey, did you just adopt an introvert?"
You look back at your new friend, and you find that they're lost in their book again. you laugh, amused at the bizarre turn of events.
"I think," you say with a grin, "that the introvert just adopted me."

Am I going to write this? Probably not. That's why it's going here!
TW! DEATH!
Anyhoot, here we go!
.../.../.../
Jiang Cheng sent to an AU where he’s happy. Could be magic, could be a curse, but he's fully immersed in this universe and believes it to be the only one.  His dad respects his decisions (or at least is able to empathize with his reasoning), his mom is proud of him because he’s able to inspire loyalty and strength, Wei Wuxian is his right hand man, and Jiang Yanli and the peacock are still alive, and Jin Ling is always excited to see him.  He’s a sect leader still, and he’s not alone.
He stays there, content for a while, until the little things start.
It’s Jin Ling, first of all, that begins to shatter the illusion.  He calls Jiang Cheng er-jiu, and it’s…  not right.  But whatever, he can disregard that for Jin Ling’s smile and safety.  “Er-jiu is the strongest!  Er-jiu will keep me safe forever!”
He checks in with Jiang Yanli, and he asks if she’s happy.  He notes her patience with him whenever he does this, check in.  She used to be exasperated, just a little, with him.  It was always his cue to stop, but it just…  isn’t here.  When he asks if her husband treats her well, she doesn’t get defensive of him.  “Yes, he does, A-Cheng.”  He’s a little confused, and he asks why she isn’t defending him.  It’s nice not to fight with family, but it’s weird.  She laughs and says that he’s always loved her, and she knows that he doesn’t hate A-Xuan anymore.  Jiang Cheng says that he’ll start up again if any harm comes to her, and she looks him, dead in the eye with a reassurance that’s almost… chilling in its certainty, and says “Oh, A-Cheng.  I’ll never be hurt again.”
That’s when he runs into his mother.  He thinks she’ll give him the dose of reality that he needs to be strong for his sister’s family, which is acting Very Weird.  He doesn’t get it.  Instead, it’s honeyed words of praise.  Obviously A-Li feels safer around him.  He’s done a great job keeping this family safe.  Zidian sits on her finger, and it doesn’t crackle or betray anything but warmth.  His father runs into them, first presses a kiss into his wife’s hair, which she accepts with a smile, and asks what’s wrong.  Jiang Cheng is uncertain about exposing his fears, for what feels like the first time, but he spills the offness.  Jiang Fengmian reflects Jiang Cheng’s concerns in his own words, and Jiang Cheng is happy, again, that he’s being heard.  His father’s advice is to make sure that the sect is running well since Jiang Cheng likes to fix problems, and there are always at least a few small fires to put out around Sect related business.  Makes a casual line of Jiang Cheng putting out every fire in Lotus Pier, and the thought of fire plus Lotus Pier erases any sense of ease Jiang Cheng might have had.
Still, he’s a filial son, so he thanks his parents and goes to the office.  He has vague memories of Jiang Fengmian showing him around, giving him an organization system, and helping him get started.  He’s always grateful for the guidance, even if the system is slightly different under his rule.  He just found some ways that worked better, and every difference noted has been warmly received, understood, and supported by his father.
Wei Wuxian is already there, napping.  The first bit of normalcy sets his heart at ease, and Jiang Cheng complains loudly about second-in-commands who don’t do any work.  Wei Wuxian wakes and whines about that, and they’re soon in a wrestling match.  Wei Wuxian gets him in a headlock easily, and Jiang Cheng’s heart eases.  Something about having his brother here is like a balm on his troubled soul.
The two of them then get to work, bickering back and forth and sharing ideas.  Some of Wei Wuxian’s ideas are good, and he praises some of Jiang Cheng’s ideas in turn.
But no matter how at ease he feels…  there’s something…  off.
He knows that he managed to convince mother and father to give Wei Wuxian purple robes years ago.  Under his own leadership, he’s simply rewarding good representation of the Sect.
“You’ll shame our sect!”
Undying loyalty.
“I never asked for this!”  “You’d choose the—over us?”
Striking genius.
“You idiot!”
Fierce protection.
“You killed—!”
Wei Wuxian waves his hand in front of Jiang Cheng’s face, and Jiang Cheng even though he’s normally the person to let sleeping dogs lie…
“Wei Wuxian, are you happy here?”
The question catches Wei Wuxian off-guard, but he goes on to say that he is.  When pressed why, he talks about all of Jiang Cheng’s fondest memories.  Stealing lotus pods, shooting kites, the festivals, the spicy food, the family.
This should be reassuring, but it’s not.  Jiang Cheng gets a feeling of wrong, wrong, wrong the more Wei Wuxian talks.  Finally, he snaps, and he expects a fight.
When the fight goes out of Wei Wuxian’s sails, when he just lets Jiang Cheng say what he wants, Jiang Cheng runs cold.
Wei Wuxian would never let him win like that.  Not if he wasn’t hurting.
Other things fall into place, or they try to.  Jiang Cheng, stubborn and selfish creature that he is, tries to deny it.  Tries, tries, tries, tries.
It comes full circle to Jin Ling again.
Jiang Cheng asks when the heir of the Jin Sect has to go back to Carp Tower.  Jin Ling looks at him with wide, innocent eyes, and says “never.  Jin Ling gets to stay with Er-jiu.”
What about friends?  Responsibility?
Jin Ling shakes his head.  “No.  Just family.  Just A-Niang and er-jiu and dai-jiu and—”
Denial, when attacked so acutely, is such a flimsy thing.
It’s not real.  None of it is.  Jin Ling is a Sect Leader whose sole purpose in the past two years has been to keep Jiang Cheng out of Jin Sect business.  It’s only proper, and it’s the way the world works.  Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan are dead.  Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian, both of whom never showed the level of empathy and understanding that he desperately wanted, are dead.  Wei Wuxian left, happier elsewhere, and will not return.
Jiang Cheng can only watch as the paradise he’s been a part of for…days?  Weeks?  Fractures around him.  It fractures, fissures, cracks against his will.
He wakes.
He’s in the Jiang Sect medical wing, alone.  Again, Jin Ling has his own sect to run, the rest of his blood family is dead, and Wei Wuxian is gone.  There is no one to be happy he exists now.
His wounds have been reopened.  The emotional wounds that have never truly healed are open and bleeding afresh.  His dissatisfaction comes back to him, and his hurt does in droves.  He can only scream.
When the head healer comes back for her hourly check in, it’s to find the body of their Sect Leader, blood coming from every opening in his face.  It’s a qi deviation.
There are some who could survive having such happiness taken from them without any support.  There are even some who could survive it in the face of attack.  What makes those people special are people like Jiang Cheng.
The ones who, when faced with a future filled with reminders of how unnecessary, unneeded, unwanted they are, cannot.

The scenario where someone bursts into the room and says "I KNEW YOU WERE HAVING SEX!" and it's just the couple in the same room reading a book or doing something, and one of 'em goes "wait, really? Man, you shoulda told me; I would have put my book down."
Ok, so. Imagine that, but it's modern Wangxian and Jiang Cheng (who has probably had Ideas put into his head by Nie Huaisang because we all know that lil' fashionista coat hanger lives for the Petty Drama TM).
So, this happens, and Wei Wuxian is grinning over at Lan Wangji, having been the person who exclaims.
To Jiang Cheng, it looks as though Lan Wangji is glaring with Vitrol against his brother, which definitely means that he was right and Lan Wangji definitely hates Wei Wuxian, and this is as things Should Be and definitely an indicator that Nie Huaisang was Wrong and he can Rest Easy now.
To Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji's glare carries the distinct message of "if we were having sex, you would be fully aware of this fact because I would not let you think of anything else."
When Wei Wuxian grins back, Jiang Cheng sees only that his brother is a glutton for punishment.
Jiang Cheng is right, but so not in the way he thought.
Nie Huaisang, who was probably watching all of this in the background, is thriving.

Writing Update, I suppose???
So I have a oneshot story for MDZS I've called it The Ways In Which I Love You. I wanted to use some prompts to do little things, so now I've got this. XD It's halfway done at this point (go me!), and this is chapter #5.
Chapter 1: Wangxian, "Who did this to you?", T
Chapter 2: Wangxian, "You're my best friend. I've always loved you.", T
Chapter 3: Wangxian, "Oh. Oh.", G
Chapter 4: Wangxian, "Shut up." "Make me.", E
Chapter 5: Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian, "Then why did you do it?" "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU", T
Chapters 1 and 5 have Alternate Attempts that I made and abandoned for different reasons. They're in the sequel story, The Ways In Which I Botch Loving You.
Chapter 1: "Who did this to you" Take 1
Chapter 2: "Then why did you do it?" "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU" Take 1
I'm hoping to get the other 5 prompts out in a timely manner, but we'll see how it all goes. I currently have my rolling die python application (that I made ages ago and didn't realize would come in so handy!) open to make sure that each prompt is randomly selected when I move onto the next, and the next prompt (for anyone interested) is ''I didn't know where else to go.'' A few ideas are already bouncing around, so we'll definitely see how this goes. >:3
I have a sister story for Selling Flowers in the works, though it's gone through a couple of serious overhauls at this point. ^^; New beginnings, new endings, new consequences, new disasters, new timelines, new lots of stuff. I'm really enjoying this AU. This story just needs major tweaks in order for me to get the timeline I really want down right. What I can and will say is that it's Jiang Cheng-centric, focusing on what he and certain others were up to during what we all know had to have been a rough patch in Wei Wuxian's life. It'll touch on the past, a tic of trauma, how Jiang Cheng interacts with the Wens, his dynamic and feelings towards Wei Wuxian himself, and the Jiang family situation. I am seriously aiming big here.
I also have a story that I never released, but it runs in the same vein as To Never Forget, but sadder. Well... ish. I had a thought experiment going about Wei Wuxian, what he's been through, and his happy ending, and I wanted it to be a little more tangible than just inside my own head, so I started writing out a story. I'm hoping it'll be no more than a few chapters once I'm done with it, and I want similar vibes to what I was going for with Trapped are the Guilty, but we'll see if the years have really honed in my ability to get the effect I'm going for.
There's a slow-going HunterxHunter AU that I've been working on, but I'm currently stuck there. However, it's a non-nen AU where Gon and Killua meet when they're much older and have slightly different priorities. Gon works with Kurapika, Leorio, and Melody in an undisclosed business while setting a trap and lying in wait for Ging to come along. He's very reluctantly patient about the whole thing. Killua is with Alluka, living a...life..., and there's something... not quite right or wrong about the pair. Whatever's up, Gon is still Gon, Killua still needs a friend, and the world is a little more grey than we all want to believe it is.
Finally, there's a fluffy as heck oneshot idea that's in the works and already has a beginning kinda hammered out. It's come to Lan Wangji's attention (through Unfortunate means) that Wei Wuxian doesn't sleep as well when they are forced to part. When Lan Wangji is sent out and Wei Wuxian must stay behind, what's a man to do to ensure that his beloved husband gets the rest that he needs? The answer comes from the same source as the unfortunate revelation, and I think it's kinda funny.
So... I think that's everything. Now y'all are up to date on the thoughts of Amy. XD Or, at least, the writings she's been actively working on. Some passive stuff is going on in the bg of my computer and shall stay there for a long time. *pat pats computer*

There is one effect in this bad boi, and I have very few regrets about it.
This is Chapter 5 of The Ways In Which I Love You. I podficced it because it's the one I loved enough to read aloud, I said I wanted to record it, my sibling encouraged me, and I took that personally a couple weeks later. XD
Enjoy!

It’s an energy, almost.  A vibration that starts from your soul that yearns for escape…
…but there’s no escape to be had.  Not really.
The room around you is empty.  Empty and not.  There are several items around, certainly.  There’s the couch that your family brought in.  There’s the bookshelf you’ve had for five years now.  There’s the television and stand that you use less frequently than your laptop, but you keep because your father gave it to you since his father gave it to him and it had never seen use before you.  The kitchen, which opens with a small mouth of an alley between living room and kitchen, is relatively neat.  Chips on the counter.  Butter by the stove.  Just like it used to be at home.  There’s a microwave on the other side of the sink.  It’s got bamboo utensils on top.  They remind you of the wooden spoon that you used to use to break up ground meat when you figured out you could break down hamburger patties to feed your siblings.
But the room is empty.
A high pitch whine can be heard in the room.  It’s keening, high sound can only come from your throat.  It’s the vibration.  The urge to shower someone…  anyone close with affection.
But no one is close.  No one is close in here, no one will be close at work, and no one will be close in any space between here and there.  No one is close, and the energy will simply have to stay put.  Vibrating, rearranging your soul until it shakes itself into transformation or regression.
Because those are the only two options now.
You can stay in your empty room.  Your privacy, your couch, your bookshelf and television and stand and kitchen.  You can stay and learn and grow.  Perhaps find closeness again elsewhere. Vibrate with this energy until you make a channel for it to leave through.
Or you can return.  To a room you didn’t know was cramped until you flew.  To siblings who sometimes paid attention and sometimes didn’t, but who had learned to let you love them in your own way.  To parents who would give you the world so you could learn to take on the world yourself.  To a family that had been changing even before you left, and would not be the same even if you returned.
The room is empty.
You can either fill it…  or you can flee from it…
…but while you wait…
…you can only vibrate.
It is like an energy. Almost.

Ok, so sometimes an OC is a love letter to yourself. You are strong, mighty, wise, and important.
Sometimes, an OC is a slap upside your own head. Your actions will come to haunt you, you are pushing people away, and you need help.
Sometimes, an OC is a love letter to someone else. You are brave, clever, worthy, beloved, and inspiring.
Sometimes, an OC is a slap to someone else. You are hurting me, you need to change, you're an idiot, and you can leave now.
Sometimes an OC is none of these things, but I find that all too often...
...they're one of the four.

yk, for some reason, Wei Wuxian is the fannon self-sacrificial one in the dynamic, and Lan Wangji is the one who has to fight for love and take what he needs.
But, like, thinking about it, isn't it the opposite?
Once Wei Wuxian gets an inkling of his feelings, he starts pushing Lan Wangji. In little ways, and nothing he can't walk back, but he does.
Lan Wangji pushed exactly one time before their get-together. And he was pissed off at himself for it.
So here's what I'm saying: Modern AU where Lan Wangji starts to think that he's trapping Wei Wuxian, that he's holding his Wei Ying back from something amazing, and just... goes. For the love of his life, for everything that Wei Wuxian is and could be, he leaves. Cue Wei Wuxian going "WAHT THE FUCK, YOU GORGEOUS MAN?!" and one Crazy Road Trip in the pursuit of True Love.
Literally would be one Chaotic Road Trip. I imagine Wei Wuxian making a lot of friends and gushing about Lan Wangji at every given opportunity and he picks up the ducklings along the way and when he eventually gets there, Lan Wangji is utterly miserable but hiding it fairly well, and Wei Wuxian is like "if you don't kiss me, I am actually going to die. Do you want that? Do you want me to die, er-gege?" And there's a happily ever after.
But yeah, I was listening to Try by Pink, and I realized who, exactly, the roles should go to. XD
