You have to view Liam, Angelus, and Angel as one character for him to have any meaning. Angel turning into Angelus in season 2 is an escalation of Angel’s character from his eponymous season 1 episode where he vamps out while kissing Buffy. His complicity in the events in season 2, of being the kind of man who isn’t there when Buffy wakes up in the morning, is never dealt with in a satisfying way. And Angel suicide baiting Buffy back into dating him in Amends after she dumped him in Lovers Walk is the actions of a manipulative, weak and abusive man. It’s played romantically but all I can think is since Surprise he has no excuses not to know better. Until he eventually dumps her at the oldest she’s ever been for being too young, for issues that were there since before they kissed in season 1, for wanting the catharsis of Prom with her boyfriend, for scribbling their names on her notebook, for the Mayor having the balls Giles didn’t to give him straight talk. His character on Angel is interesting but it never truly confronts his character on Buffy, choosing instead to have him repenting for his 100 years as a soulless killer; the man who chased a 15 year old to Sunnydale and continued to get closer to her despite the darkness that stirred in him is never really acknowledged.

I have, perhaps, a time or two, mentioned that one of my favorites things is Angelus Ex Machina by @bluemeridian

who has a blanket permission statement! so I don't have to awkwardly ask for permission because I am terrible at art and thus asking for permission to art seems like it would raise false hopes...

but I have, perhaps, downloaded the epub versions of these for personal use, but the default covers in calibre are SO BORING so I had to at least improve the fonts you know?

::THE GREEN DRAGON

The Green Dragon's usually greyed eyes remained shut as it laid still in response to its fellow's remark, though the question of whether it was true nonchalance or mere exhaustion that made its demeanour wasn't clear. While there was no denying the struggle the last two years had been for the already elderly dragon, it was just as clear to any who knew it how set it was in its beliefs. It's capabilities, no matter how limited, did little to waver its guard in the face of such challenges. A sentiment proven further as its eyes lifted, and with what strength it had, lifted its head to better meet that of the red dragon's. The greyish-gold eyes that stared directly up the other were almost lifeless in their appearance, but its voice was anything but. "Am I the fool...?" It asked.

"I have no regrets for what I have done."

It wanted to make that clear.

The Green Dragon's head lowered, but didn't yet place itself on the ground as it went on. "For you, who have come here by duty rather than by will, your perspective of the true capabilities of human kindness remain limited under the weight of your own recklessness. Humans are powerful and know well how to love within their own right... Surely you had seen it that day, or else you would not be fighting your own brethren now! The will of humankind. A desire to live in the company of others that ones with lives such as ours could not understand. You may be blind to it now, but one day you'll see. You'll see..."

Its tone had rose, had become almost condescending as it went on, and a glint of life could momentarily be seen through the cracked and dirtied scales as a coarse, low groan of a growl barely escaped from it's maw. It had meant no threat - that was certain even with the fierce vigour it had asserted itself with, being that they were brethren after all - but it had, if anything, certainly meant to lecture. It was a gesture the Green Dragon was almost certain a being with all the power and pride of the red dragon would take offense to. As if in recognition of this fact, it lowered its voice, one that spoke only between the two of them, but with such an aura that even one like a passing human could be sure to sense the emitting tension.

"Are you truly of the mind that the humans seek only chaos?" The dragon asked, "That nothing shall come of the destruction of these grounds? Of this war? The soil has only been sown. At the end of all human conflict, community grows. And from here..."

"...A beautiful garden shall be grown, just as the days of old. Of that, I am certain." It said, its head finally lowering to the ground. A deep sigh followed that shook the fangs in its mouth as the tired eyes finally closed. "I am certain."

I made another pair of gloves with the same art nouveau design as my previous pair, this time in dark purple and gold. Unfortunately the leather is that disappointing stuff from Fabricville that stains, so I'm going to have to be very careful to not get them wet. (I still have enough for at least one more pair, and leather is expensive so I'm going to use it, but I won't be happy about it and I won't buy leather from Fabricville again.)

The gold is Angelus leather paint, and I couldn't trace the design in pen like I did on the light coloured leather, so I lightly painted around the edges of the stencil with a thin brush before removing the stencil and filling in the entire design. It smudged a bit on some of the edges, where I either used too much paint or wasn't pressing the stencil down flat enough, but it's not too noticeable. It took a few layers to get it opaque enough, so painting it went much more slowly than before.

I'm still tweaking my pattern a teeny tiny bit every time I sew it up, and I think I'll lengthen one of the fingers by a couple millimetres, but other than that it's just about perfect. I'm especially pleased with the fit of the thumb!

I think they turned out very nice and that they look like fabulous wizard gloves. I have an unfinished purple jacket on The Pile that ought to look good with them when it's finished.

I have a gifset request, if anyone wants to do it at all? Though I know I'm crazy, and this is a lot, and I'm so sorry in advance. So no one has to do this at all, of course.

It's a comparison between something Angel and Anya said, because I feel like they're pretty similar? And for some reason, I've had Bangel and Xanya parallels on the mind lately.

It's Angel's: "Time was, I thought humans existed just to hurt each other. Then I came here" and Anya's “I had seen what love could do to people, and it was... hurt and sadness. Alone was better. And then, suddenly there was you, and... you knew me. You saw me, and it was this... thing. You make me feel safe and warm. So, I get it now. I finally get love.”

And the idea I have would be pairing what Angel's saying first with something sweet, like when he and Buffy went to the skating rink together, then probably all of those hurtful things he said to her as Angelus (when Buffy still thought he had his soul). And after that, them fighting in "Becoming Part 2," and then probably Angel coming back in Anne, and maybe Buffy then helping an injured Angel up in Lovers Walk (that leads Spike into his "you're not friends" spiel)? The idea being that Angel betrayed Buffy, of course, and even with that, she still forgave him and helped him, thus fitting the: "Time was, I thought humans existed just to hurt each other. Then I came here" quote.

And then for Anya's quote, with the "I had seen what love could do to people, and it was... hurt and sadness" part there would probably be an overlay of her and Olaf's relationship ending badly. "Alone was better" would be her being a vengeance demon (perhaps the "vengeance is what I am" clip). And then the rest of it would be cute Xander and Anya clips. This could be whatever anyone wants to put there, of course, but the ideas I have are: Anya: "When I think that something could happen to you, it feels bad inside, like I might vomit." Xander: I'm sorry I give you barfy feelings." Then from Primeval: Anya: "You're a good person, and a good boyfriend, and...and I'm in love with you." And finally, from The Gift: Anya: "You're proposing to me 'cause we're gonna die!..." Xander: "I'm proposing to you, Anya, because it's not."

If someone did want to do this at all--and thank you so much, by the way, if you do!--you can totally use whatever clip overlays that you want to for the quotes. These were just the examples I was thinking of to fit the Angel (Bangel) and Anya (Xanya) parallel I'm thinking of here.

uh this is super difficult as most main characters on the show are considered part of the scoobies at some point or another 😭 so I guess this is mostly villains and in no order I can’t do definite ranking

• drusilla. just love her whole gothic vibe and her odd speech and mannerisms <3 she’s also gorgeous

• mayor wilkins. great villain tbh especially because he’s very charismatic and gives insight on how sunnydale is able to have these strange occurrences because the guy in charge of the town is literally in on it and specifically founded the town on the hellmouth. also love his relationship with faith as a foil to giles and buffy

• ms calendar! I liked her a lot and feel that if I were a sunnydale student she would be one of my fav teachers. like with the mayor and faith I enjoy how she’s a spunky teacher who’s contrasted with giles, and I thought they were a cute couple while it lasted

• harmony (vampire version): okay this may be a bit tainted by the fact I recently finished angel a few weeks back but I love vampire harmony. like yeah she’s the popular bimbo stereotype but I find her enjoyable to watch I especially enjoyed the pet names she would use for spike and how she’s like “I’m so evil!!! 💕💖 ✨” like yeah babygirl you are sooo evil <3

• angelus. fuck it he’s not part of the scooby gang as there’s the whole angelus versus angel thing so I am putting him here on a technicality. literally heart wrenching villain as he is personally connected to buffy and the scoobies and he actually gets shit done! like spike and dru were interesting and fun to watch but they didn’t really do anything on the level of angelus. he actually kills jenny, deals psychological torture, and summons acathla. he’s also a cunt while serving cunt idc angelus was hot. the leather pants and rings??? I enjoyed it. also I like how angelus as a villain affects the rest of the show like willow’s foray into magic? buffy being able to sacrifice herself instead of dawn? hell even buffy and spike becoming a thing.
