Being a trans person in historical reenacting has been such an oddly gender euphoric experience.
So I'm genderfluid, and when I'm in a ftm vibe (which is most frequent honestly), in daily life I'm still perceived as "woman." But when I'm dressed as a male soldier in the 1770s British military, this happens very infrequently. In fact, I'm correctly gendered by folks (e.g. old cis white men) who normally wouldn't be so kind to trans men like me. My heart swells and I can't stop smiling every time a boomer calls me "he" or even corrects himself without my prompting. My shoulders are broad enough and 18th century fashion tailored enough that I truly match my comrades. I cut my hair short, which is less accurate to the period, but I've gotten more folks immediately see me as male. One soldier asked if I was my sergeant's son and neither of us corrected him. We're not related btw. I'll never forget my colonel at Fort Ti catching himself at "She--" or the way I now have learned my name, Samuel, and respond well to it and unlearned my deadname. I have an excuse for my transphobic parents to see me called by my male name. I have an excuse to buy trans tape (I can't even articulate how much binding tape has saved me--reenacting is intense exercise and therefore a binder isn't healthy) and deepen my voice to sing or yell HUZZA and use makeup to simulate facial hair (NOT for 1700s though).
Even so, some members of the audience demand to know "why I'm a girl." How can I, a person born with "F" on my birth certificate, dare dress as a male and carry a musket? What do I know about history, being a "woman?" And I tell them about Hannah Snell, Deborah Sampson, Mary Lacey, Mary Ann Talbot, Phoebe Hessel, Johanna Sophia Kettner, Anna Maria Lane, Ana María de Soto, Jeanette Colin, and many more. And while these people cannot be labelled "queer" or "trans," I wonder if they felt the way I feel. At least, in the context of my existence, I can speak about theirs. Yet still, even men I consider friends, doubt this reality. Yes, he's right to say Sybil Ludington and Molly Pitcher and Lucy Brewer are likely fiction, but even so, reality inspires fiction. Hannah Snell was very much real and very much did serve in the army and later the marines. Why is that history so hard to believe? Why does my existence demand an explanation?
And yet reenacting is my gender euphoria.

INDIE SMUT RP (PLOT CENTRIC) - YOU MUST BE (PREFERABLY) 21+ TO ENTER PLEASE AND THANKS AND (AS OF 7/23/2023) I HAVE SWITCHED TO BETA EDITOR ONLY.
Tumblr media
Welcome everyone to my page! I am a mostly mutuals only blog, but if you see an open in the tags you’re more than welcome to answer it even if we don’t follow each other! Some of the best partners are found that way, but just know I might be selective at times when it comes to muse and such. PLEASE DON’T PESTER ME IF I DO NOT FOLLOW YOU BACK. YOU MAY ANSWER AN OPEN IF YOU SEE ONE, BUT IF I DON’T REPLY PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO GUILT ME. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO DO AS I PLEASE ON THIS BLOG, THE SAME AS YOU DO.
I play both female and male characters (there is an obvious lean towards females) and while I’m not here to say you have to double up with one of my girls to get my guys, just know those threads might come a bit slower at times. I don’t try to drop threads without at least making some sort of PSA post about it though, so keep an eye out for them if I don't come directly to you with it!
When it comes to pairings, all of my men are straight and a majority of my ladies are bisexual! Leading the bulk of my threads to lean either towards m/f or f/f, but at the time of updating this (7/23/2023) I will not be including m/m content on my blog in a sexual sense. I have nothing against it, but I will not write it I am sorry 🖤 When writing a starter though, I will always include the preferences at the top so there is no confusion.
All standard rules apply here, don't be a dick and we should get along fine. Discord is more likely to be given out to people whom I have plotted with a little bit at least on here already, I just have to know it’s not gonna flop and go nowhere within a day or two. That, and it is now the place where all of my kinkier plots go to be written as to spare the dash as much as possible.

Geraldine Chaplin in Peppermint Frappé (Carlos Saura, 1967)
Cast: Geraldine Chaplin, José Luis López Vázquez, Alfredo Mayo, Ana Maria Custodio, Emiliano Redondo, Fernando Sánchez Polack. Screenplay: Rafael Azcona, Angelino Fons, Carlos Saura. Cinematography: Luis Cuadrado. Art direction: Emilio Sanz de Soto. Film editing: Pablo G. del Amo. Music: Luis de Pablo.
Peppermint Frappé sounds like it should be a teen beach party movie until you see that it's directed by Carlos Saura and dedicated to Luis Buñuel. Then you know it's going to be a somewhat kinky story with darkly comic overtones. It opens with a middle-aged man cutting pictures of fashion models out of magazines. He's Julián (José Luis López Vázquez), a physician who runs a radiology clinic with the help of his nurse, Ana (Geraldine Chaplin), who is as quiet and conservative as he is. Then he's reunited with a boyhood friend, Pablo (Alfredo Mayo), whose life is virtually the antithesis of Julián's: Pablo has been living an adventurous life in Africa, he drives a Corvette, and he has just married the smashingly pretty and vivacious Elena, who is also played by Chaplin in a tour de force performance. Eventually, Julián's jealousy of Pablo and desire for Elena will take an increasingly predictable course, as his obsession leads to an attempt to remake Ana into Elena. Not that Saura's film is ever really predictable: As a director he has too many tricks up his sleeve, so that things always stay a little off-balance, especially when Julián invites Pablo and Elena to his weekend retreat in the country, which is next to an abandoned spa where Pablo and Julián used to play as children. Saura's use of setting is masterly in this sequence. The title refers to Pablo's favorite cocktail, a crème de menthe-based concoction served over crushed ice; it's a particularly venomous shade of green not found in nature. And yes, it plays a part in the denouement. López Vázquez and especially Chaplin give terrific performances, but the movie doesn't add up to much more than a showcase for them and Saura's skewed way of telling a story.

Cinema Tropical, the non-profit media arts organization that is leading presenter of Latin American cinema in the United States, is proud to announce its annual list of Best Latin American Films of the Year, comprised of 25 Latin American titles from twelve different countries, plus five U.S. Latinx productions—all of them by female directors—that the New York-based organization has selected as the best of the year.
Featuring productions from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the United States, and Venezuela, the films selected in this list will compete for the 13th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards.
The winners for Best Film, Best Director, Best First Film, and Best U.S. Latinx Film, will be announced in an in-person event on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Film at Lincoln Center in New York City.
A jury composed of programmer Cecilia Barrionuevo, former Artistic Director of the Mar del Plata Film Festival; Andrea Picard, Senior Curator at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF); José Rodriguez, Programmer at the Tribeca Film Festival; and filmmaker Dominga Sotomayor (Too Late to Die Young); will choose the winners of the 13th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards in the Latin American cinema category.
Filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes (499, Sansón and Me); Ximena Amescua, Manager of Artist Programs at Firelight Media; and film programmer and producer Virginia Westover, will select the winner in the U.S. Latinx category.
Please note that all the films under consideration had a minimum of 60 minutes in length and premiered between May 1, 2021, and April 30, 2022.
