#And here I'm getting soft again about Klance

Okay so y'all are sleeping on the After Buzz interview!!! There's SO MUCH Klance goodness to unpack here, it's full meta worthy.
undefined
youtube
Okay, so I'm sure by now everyone who regularly views the Klance tag has seen a short 20-30 second video clip from this interview going around. We're all pretty hyped about it (as we should be!)
For those who haven't seen that clip because they live under a rock: it's basically a 45 minute interview all about The Fued episode.
Here's the thing though: that 20-30 second video clip does NOT even CLOSE to do justice to the significance of Klance hinted at in this interview!! That clip isn't even the best part, imo! I highly recommend, before you even scroll down to read this meta, that you click on that video and watch from about 34:50 to about 37:20. That's the clip I'm gonna write about.
Watched it? Okay. Good.
Now listen up.
Somebody was in the Klance tag earlier tryna get people down by saying the interviewer was the one who brought up Klance, but if you watch the video clip I reccomend above, that's not true at all.
The interviewer was asking in general about how they decided who would pick who at the end of the episode. Lauren is the one who brought up Keith and Lance and their dynamic, pretty much out of the blue.
The interviewer asked how they decided who was gonna pick who, and they're talking about who wrote the episode, giving Tim credit, etc.
Lauren started saying Bob was trying to get the better of the team, and having them all choose someone besides themselves and having everyone get chosen, and show they all respect each other, was the only way to beat Bob.
But JDS had a different view.
JDS: "I think Bob was just trying to help them realize it. I don't think he had it out for them, I think he was--his endgame was, like, I want these guys to work."
I know JDS was trying to sound like he was referencing the entire team here - but honestly? I don't think he was.
I say that because, when I first watched this episode as a Klance shipper, this was the exact thought I had regarding Klance. I flipped because I was thinking, "Wowza, Bob's really out here tryna bring Keith and Lance together, huh. Number one Klancer right there, ol' Bob." I've always thought that Bob was low key trying to play matchmaker for Klance and this kinda sort of confirms that in a way, I think.
JDS: "We were like 'how's this gonna happen?' then we read it and we were like '...oh that's pretty smart, yeah.'"
LM: "That is a good way for that to happen."
JDS: "It all worked out, yeah."
I don't understand how this relates to the team as a whole.
I don't understand how this relates to the team platonically choosing each other.
They all like and respect each other. We already know this. What does JDS mean by "how its gonna happen"? How is what going to happen?
Good way for what to happen, LM?
Keep in mind, Bob is essentially an all-knowing deity. If Keith and Lance have romantic feelings for each other, he for sure knows, and was trying to help them realize it just like JDS said.
After this, the interviewer continues on talking about Keith and Lance dynamic and how theres always gonna be that little bit of antagonism between them even though they're mostly getting along now. The interviewer even brings up the "dont miss" snippet scene that pretty much everyone but Klancers brushed off in season 7.
And if you listen while the interviewer is talking about Keith and Lance and their dynamic, LM is kind of saying "yeah" in the background in a weird way, like she kind of sees, the same way I do, that the interviewer is thinking along a line of Klance.
It sounds like she maybe doesn't want to talk about it? It's hard to explain, just listen to it.
And LM kinda awkardly says "aww" at one point while the interviewer is talking about Keith and Lance dynamic. Like I'm sorry but..why aww? And why so awkwardly?
I think LM's mind is thinking in a way geared toward Klance/not spoiling Klance in these last few moments of the interview and she's trying to placate. Again, it's hard to explain, just listen for yourself.
The same person in the Klance tag earlier who was tryna get people down pointed out that, after this, JDS compares Keith and Lance to a relationship he has with a buddy of his. Debbie downer said JDS thinks of Keith and Lance as friends.
I dont think so.
I think they say little things like this to kind of hint at Klance without straight up spoiling Klance. They throw in comments like that to throw water on the fire, so to speak, to keep people from catching on.
(Also: he's not wrong at all. At this point in the show Keith and Lance ARE buddies. It's slow burn. They aren't romantic yet - but they will be.)
But also...RIGHT after JDS makes the buddy comparison is when the moment happens of LM talking, the popular 20-30 second clip that's been going around tumblr.
This is the part I'm sure you've all seen. Lauren says that Lance is maturing, moving on, and opening up by calling Keith the future. She also puts emphasis on Keith's name. "I think KEITH is the future."
And after this is yet another moment that negative peeps are tryna bring KICKers down with; Lauren says Keith is so perturbed by the whole game show thing that he doesn't put much thought into who he chose.
But...that doesnt quite add up.
Earlier in the interview, they were talking about how Keith is just so calm through the whole thing.
LM and JDS said it's because they couldn't really get a hold of Steven Yeun to revoice the lines in a more concerned tone. They make a joke about how he's not exactly easy to get ahold of (lmfao yeah we've noticed.)
Then JDS points out that it really works out, actually, that Keith is so calm, because after flying magical mechanical space lions to form a giant magical mechanical space man, there's likely very little that could perturb Keith at this point, so his meh attitude toward the game show makes sense.
That doesn't add up with him being "so perturbed" by the game show thing that he just chooses at random.
Either he's calm and collected during the game show or he's not. It can't be both ways.
So did Keith choose Lance with a calm and clear mind, or was he shaken and choosing at random? They were very inconsistent with this.
But imo? Keith isn't one to get very riled up or perturbed by things like this. Keith also isn't one to make such an important life or death decision of who should be free to leave without putting any thought into it. That doesn't match his character at all.
LM and JDS did something they often do here, which is the good cop bad cop routine.
One of them hints at Klance, then the other pulls back and tries to make it seem less romantic. Then the one who tried to make it seem less romantic hints at Klance themselves, and the one who originally hinted at Klance tries to ease it back a little.
They do this constantly when discussing Keith and Lance in any way. It's like a rhythm they've got going to stoke the flames and then splash a little water in; not starting a wildfire, but not putting it out completely.
Another thing I noticed: they said earlier on in the video that, originally, the game show was meant to be the final episode before they got back to earth.
Originally, the stakes for the game show were supposed to be "win and you basically get wormholed back to your solar system."
They decided to switch the episode order around because it didn't feel right to have them get back to earth right on the heels of a silly game show; it made the stakes seem like they were less serious, and they didn't want that (makes perfect sense! Good call!)
One note of specific pessimism for Klancers after season seven was that we got that one he's like, the future moment and then Lance turns right around and is angry and snapping at Keith in the episode where they were going space mad.
This made a lot of Klancers lose hope because they felt like any potential was fizzled out when that one moment early on in the season was almost all the Klance we got (I personally think there were more Klance moments than just the Fued in season seven, and I even think Lance snapping at Keith about running away was a low key Klance moment, but that's another meta for another time.)
But...apparently...the space mad episode was originally meant to come BEFORE the Fued.
Y'all know what that means?
It means that, originally...Lance was going to snap at Keith about running away...and then he was going to call Keith the future later on.
This makes a hell of a lot more sense in the terms of Klance being a slow burn. It was the change of episode order that threw us.
Also notice that...they didn't specifically talk about any other characters or the relationship between any othercharacters. They JUST talked about Lance and Keith.
The interviewer asked in general how they decided who was going to choose who...and the showrunners just straight up spent three minutes talking about Keith and Lance without a single mention of the other three paladins.
The interviewer didn't bring up Klance. Lauren brought up Klance. The interviewer saw the opportunity and started digging a little, AFTER Lauren brought it up.
I just...
You guys.
You guys.
All of this, plus the fact that the Garfle Warfle Snick logo is an exact replica of the irl Dating Game logo, plus the fact that Josh Keaton said this episode contains "a lot of foreshadowing," plus the way Lance looked so kind and soft when he called Keith the future, plus the confused looks Pidge and Hunk had when Lance and Keith chose each other, like they sense this was more than a bro moment?
Guys. Come on.
KICK.

Day 01. RESET
Based on the January 2019 prompt list published by @downwithwritersblock
The future is now.
Author: @blackpaladintshirogane
Ship: Klance
Characters: Keith, Lance, Acxa, Zethrid, Ezor.
Warning: S8 spoilers, offensive language.
Summary: During a BOM benefic delivery, Keith encounters a rebel resistance Galra group that attacks him an puts his life in jeopardy. Fearing he may die anytime even thought the war is over, he flies to Altea to find Lance and confess his feelings.
Song:
"Keith, do you copy?"
Acxa's voice sounded, worried, on the other side of the comms. She had been trying for a while now to reach her captain, but there was no sign of him since he had gone down to the planet they were currently in, looking for signs of life they could help.
Now that the war was over, the Blade of Marmora had been renewed. They were still incredible skilled warriors but now their duties had been changed to deliver help to the places in the Universe that had been affected by the battles and the destruction. They usually did not have any trouble but today it had been different and Keith, who always took the responsibility of patrolling the area before landing, was not answering his team's call.
"Maybe we should go down ourselves, just in case" Ezor suggested, also worried by the lack of answer.
"Give the little one a bit more time. He's tough" Zethrid added.
"This is weird"
Acxa worked on the ship's panel of control, trying to look for anything she could possibly do, but she got jack.
Meanwhile, on the ground , Keith was running for his life.
Panting, with his lungs already aching every time he gasped for air, the boy was trying to escape his persecutors, who he could hear, yelling to each other, only a few steps behind him.
The attack had taken him by surprise, but, still, he was punishing himself for being so careless. If he hadn't been agile enough, his blood would be painting a beautiful canvas on the rocky landscape of the planet.
It had been Garla, nonetheless, the ones who had tried to kill him. Maybe that was the reason why he was running and not fighting back: the shock he had upon seeing the purple skinned soldiers, referring to him as paladin of Voltron, even though it had been years since the lions had abandoned them.
"Acxa!! Ezor!! Zethrid!! Somebody!? Do you copy me!?" he shouted over the comms between gasps, but the plain and cold static answered him.
Tired already, desperately trying to reach his team for help, Keith did not see the rift splitting the ground in two at his feet and he fell right on it, with a cry of pain, hitting his ribs on the ledge and spraining his right ankle on the deep hole. Soon enough, he was able to feel the warm blood running, tickling his skin under his tight suit.
He struggled to get himself out, not caring about injuring himself even more, but in vain. The rift was shallow but too narrow, so he was trapped on it. Little was worth all his screaming and cursing, and then a shadow hovered over him and the click of a gun and an evil laugh reached his ears.
"Look at you. The mighty Red Paladin, trapped like a rat in a hole on the ground. Pathetic"
"Fuck you" Keith growled , angryly, which earned him a kick on the head that made him spit blood out of his mouth.
"Shut it, and try not to keep spilling blood over my new skin trophy. Now. You're gonna be a good boy, and tell us where the rest of your team is"
"What are you even barking about? Haven't you heard the war is over?"
Keith could almost hear how the big warrior gritted his sharp teeth.
"We know, but you worms are still alive. That's insulting to us, to the memory of our great Emperor Zarkon. You destroyed it all!! We want our revenge!!"
"Then get me out of here and I'll show you the blade Zarkon tasted!!"
His words had the effect required and the soldier grabbed Keith by his neck and raised him in the air and out of the rift like a flower out of its soil, to throw him on the ground under his feet with anger. The boy twisted in pain to the impact. He probably had a few ribs broken.
"I'll break every single bone in your tiny body"
"Fuck you" Keith cursed again at him, but before the soldier could even point his gun at him, he was brought down alongside his companions by three figures that appeared out of nowhere.
"Keith!!" Acxa shouted, upon seeing her captain on the floor, the blood starting to shine through the dark fabric of the suit.
The three warriors ran to help him.
"The blade Zarkon tasted?? Do you have a death wish? " Zethrid faced him while Acxa and Ezor inspectioned his wounds.
"Stupid human" Acxa mumbled between her teeth, "It wasn't even you who finished Zarkon. It was Lotor"
"Who cares. I had to win some time and it worked, right? " Keith whispered, feeling how the exhaustion was starting to catch up to his muscles and brain.
"They were going to kill you!"
"No. I can't... I can't die. I have to do something first"
"Yeah? Like what?"
____________________________________________
The day had dawned sunny and warm, and Lance was heading for the orchard to take care of his crops, with one of the altean kids that lived alongside him and other alien families on the farm he had retired to after the war was over, seeking peace of mind and relaxation after all the stress and fear that it had brought upon them. What he did not expect to receive were the news of the arrival of a stranger warrior out of the mouth of another of the children that were running around, and even less it being Keith in the flesh.
"Wow, that mullet gets worse with the years" Lance jokingly said as soon as his former partner was close enough to hear him.
Keith laughed to his words, but he merely managed to scoff. His broken ribs pained him too much to actually burst a laughter and, even though he tried to hide it, he was limping. Also, Lance knew him all too well.
"Are you okay?" the Cuban asked, with a worried look on his blue eyes.
"Just a mission that went wrong. Nothing to worry about"
Lance raised an eyebrow.
"A mission? I thought the Blade was doing humanitarian work now?"
"Um, yeah we do..." Keith wondered his eyes away from Lance's, "But I... Found myself with some old glories that recognized me. And they weren't nice to me"
"Okay, you're coming with me now. You need to lay down"
Keith half smiled upon seeing Lance's face, frowning with a troubled look. He would have tried to argue with him over it, but he knew there would be no way to make him desist, so he followed his friend to his home, were Lance made him lay on a very comfortable couch while he made some hot coffee.
"There you go" he said, offering him a cup, "Now would you tell me why you're here? Do you need a place to heal your wounds? You can stay if you want"
The offering took Keith by surprise. He hadn't even thought about that possibility.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah! We have plenty of room here and I could use..." Lance stopped himself before saying what was roaming his mind and blushed to the very thought of even telling Keith what he actually wanted to say, "You'd be welcome"
"What was that?"
"What was what?"
"The sentence you didn't finish" Keith teased him, accommodating himself on the couch.
"Stay on your back" Lance ordered him in a soft voice, avoiding the question at the same time.
"I'll stay if you make me"
"Wha... What?"
Lance's face lighted up like a lighthouse and Keith smiled softly at him.
"I came here for a reason, Lance. I... I almost died in this mission--"
"You what!?"
"Let me finish! Dammit! Those soldiers almost killed me and the thing is... I could not stop thinking about... About how much I regretted not visiting you more often. Not... Talking to you since months ago. Not being by your side"
"What do you mean with all that, Keith?"
"Fuck! Lance!" Keith snapped, making a pinch of pain flood his chest on the process, "I'm not good with this feelings shit..."
The Cuban boy smiled.
"You mean to tell me you missed me, mullet?" Lance asked with a cheeky grin.
"Yes but, not only that"
Keith's cheeks started to dye red as he spoke. He wanted to shout it at Lance, but what if his friend did not feel the same?
Suddenly Lance raised from his seat and approached him, kneeling by his side, on the floor.
"What else then?" he asked with shiny eyes, placing his hand on Keith's knee. His altean marks seemed to flash for a second.
"I... I was scared, Lance. I thought I'd die and I'd never see you again. I'd never get to tell you that... Fuck... That I love you, dammit. That's it, I said it, now you can reject me or hate me if you want"
Keith stared into the black liquid that filled his mug, trying to ignore the feeling of crying that was crowling its way up his chest. He was regretting his words right now. Lance was still probably mourning Allura. He could see it on his eyes every year when they met before her statue to remember her. There was still love shinning in them.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have--"
But his words died on his throat as Lance leaned forward and pressed his lips against his', catching him by surprise.
"I love you too" the boy answered, breaking the kiss after a few seconds.
Warm tears streamed down Keith's cheeks, releasing all the pressure he had been feeling inside. Lance ran quick to hug him.
"Careful" Keith said between sobs, "My ribs"
"Sorry" Lance tried to pull back, but Keith wrapped him with one arm and pulled him back to his chest.
"I don't care about the pain. I just need you close now"
They stayed like that in silence for a few minutes until Lance broke the silence.
"You think it's too late to join the Blade?"
"What?"
"Well this calm life... Is driving me nuts. I wanna go back up there. With you"
Keith smiled wide and planted a quick kiss on Lance's lips.
"I guess I can find a suit for my sharpshooter"

I'm not sure do you still take prompts. But if yes, 5,klance please? Thannks!!
5. “Wait a minute. Are you jealous?”
Keith knows from past experience, primarily that one time in 6th grade the cutest girl in class asked him out to the halloween dance and tried to make him into a bunny and her the dog, that dances fucking suck.
“C’mon, Keith,” they said. “It’ll be fun,” they said.
And yet, there Keith Kogane was, the red-to-black and back to red paladin stands, in all his Paladinian Glory, in some grimy corner of the room watching Lance McClain, the true savior of the universe, dancing and laughing it up with someone that isn’t him.
Yeah, dances fucking suck.
Especially when you’d planned on re-confessing to the guy you like and you’re stuck in some slimy corner with girls who don’t know what “no thanks” or “not interested” and “i’m fuckign gay” means while the love of your life is dancing with someone he’s barely even met.
“We’ve known Kainic for awhile now, Keith.”
Dances also tend to especially suck when you don’t know how to shut the fuck up. “I don’t care,” Keith argues. “We knew Kainic when he wasn’t trying to get all over Lance.”
“Wait a minute. Are you jealous?” his brother asks, a devious grin cheshire-ing it’s way onto his scarred face. “Is my little brother, Keith Kogane, the man of never liking anyone, only ever being liked, jealous?”
The paladin gives a glare so hot the pits of hell would quiver in fear. His growl only fuels Takashi’s laughter.
“You’re jealous of Kainic,” he laughs. “That’s why you’ve been a sourpuss for the last hour.”
“Shut up,” he grinds out.
“Oh, I’m sorry, Mr. Grumpypants, did I upset you? Is your little impulse control on vacation?” After his younger brother realses a sigh from his nose, his evil grin turns to a soft smile and an arm around Keith’s shoulder. “C’mon, Keith. The Galra Empire’s been defeated to hell. You were doing just fine early, you’re gonna let Lance dancing get you down? You’da thunk you’d be ecstatic to see Lance dancing.”
“I am!” Keith refutes. He swirls a newly-found cup of nunvil in his cup. “Just…I was hoping to speak to him, ya know? I said some stuff on the battlefield while Allura was destroying Zarkon and Honerva and we were with Lotor. I never got a reaction from him and now he hates to even meet my eyes.”
A curious eyebrow is raised. “What’d you say to him?”
The younger paladin looks away, shy and confused and determined to not say a word before he heard one from Lance.
Shiro’s smile turns brighter. “I understand if you want to talk to Lance first. Just do it soon before he’s swept off his feet by someone else. I’ll be with Matt and Katie, okay?”
With a nod and a step off the wall, Keith shoves his way through the crowd with a new feeling of anger and determination, a feeling he himself couldn’t figure out it’s origin. He only has eyes for one thing and it’s tall, lanky, and too-good of a dancer.
Lance, beautiful as he is in his suit, could feel himself being dragged off before he could stop it. A turn of the head is all he needs to identify who would assault him like this.
But Lance doesn’t need that turn of the head to recognize the smell of strawberries radiating off Keith’s form. The dancing scene is getting further and further from his site and he hates it, but doesn’t say a word until they’re alone.
Neither of them do.
Lance doesn’t know what came first. The slam of his body against the wall or the “What the hell is your problem?” in his ear.
“What in the hell are you going on about?” he asks casually.
“You know what I mean, McClain.” And it’s true, as much as he doesn’t want it to be, it’s true. “You don’t just ignore someone’s confession to you.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. Not someone you ‘care about more than anything’, not someone you apparently ‘can’t live without’. That’s not some shit you do,” Keith grinds out. The tears welling up in Keith’s eyes are familiar in ways Lance wishes they weren’t.
He’s such a fucking jerk.
“And what would you know about that, huh?”
It’s in this moment that they would realize that the party, the celebration of the universe’s greatest victory, is too loud for anyone to hear them yelling; that it’s just loud enough for them to have this private moment that’s eerily different from all their other private moments. But instead, they choose to spend this moment looking into each other’s eyes and silently debating on who’s heart is breaking the loudest.
“Keith—you—you’ve never even liked anyone, Keith. How would you know what we have, huh?”
There’s an ugly lump in Lance’s throat trying to stop him from saying things he didn’t mean, things that he couldn’t take back once they were out in the open.
“You don’t know shit about what this is and isn’t! Not one damn thing, because you don’t know that there are people out there better than me desperately wanting to be on your arm!”
“Yeah and I’ve seen all those people and I still want your dumb ass. You who is reckless when I’m not! You who doesn’t know how amazing he is for putting up with me! Or even yourself! I chose you because I have never known love, not fucking once, and I wouldn’t mind standing here yelling at you about how much I love you until you love yourself!”
And in the short pause between Keith’s words they somehow both became tired and out of breath. Lance’s eyes seemed bigger and puffy with tears building up just enough so they don’t spill.
“Because you did that for me. I choose you, knowing that you start saying things you don’t mean when you’re upset or scared. I choose you, because I like seeing you relieved after you tell me your worries the same way I hope I look to you.
“So don’t tell me I don’t love you, because I do.”
Keith doesn’t know where the words came from or how his mind suddenly let everything out in ways he couldn’t do when he’d practiced his first (ruined) confession speech. His head spins with feelings coming that light the darkness of the hallway and Lance’s long arms wrapped around his neck.
“I’m sorry,” the taller boy whispers. Keith knows his voice is only ever that soft when he’s crying, but chooses not to say anything. Usually-gloved hands pull Lance’s face away from Keith’s warm neck to wipe away any tears there. “I’m sorry for being stupid.”
The fierce red paladin smiles brighter than the nearest sun and meshes their foreheads together. “Yeah, that was pretty stupid.”
I’ll accept prompts from here again when I’m finished with the others.

So for the 100 ways to say I love you meme, I'm so sorry to ask for Klance, (I'm sure you've done a lot) but could you maybe do Insecure Keith for no. 50 "you're beautiful"
Mmmmm boi I’m 100% into this request. Like I NEVER see insecure Keith (it’s usually Lance) so I’m super down with this. Hella down. Thanks so much!
Keith lays on the warehouse floor. His ears ringing badly and his entire left side searing in pain. He’s nauseous. When his eyes blink open, it takes him a moment to process his surroundings. The visor of his helmet is cracked. Bright light dances around him.
“Keith! Keith!”
Lance’s cries sound muffled. Keith groans as he pulls himself up on all fours. His left side buckles almost immediately. He looks down.
The under suit of his armour has been burnt away and has left raw, charred skin. His blood is sticky, and parts of his suit have melted onto his wounds. Keith winces. This doesn’t look good.
He begins to crawl along the ground. He has no idea where Lotor or his generals are, but he hopes that they’ve assumed he’s dead and are now distracted with something else.
“Keith?! Keith?!!” Lance’s cries sound panicked. His heavy footfalls clang on the metal walkway just above where Keith lays.
“Lance?” He tries to call, but his lungs are filled with ash.
He’s not dying here. Not like this.
Keith rolls onto his right side and manages to stand. He clings to the smooth, metal wall for support, and tries to hobble along it to get…. somewhere else. Somewhere he hopes his friends are and this fire cannot reach. Lance’s footsteps sound distant now.
He turns a corner and reaches the holding area of the warehouse. Large racking reaches up to the domed ceiling, holding rows and rows of glass cylinders. The gold liquid in them swirls and oscillates like a lava lamp. Keith’s eyes widen.
Just a bit. He thinks. It’ll be ok. It has to, and with his wounds as bad as they are… what other choice does he have?
With the hilt of his sword, Keith smashes a glass cylinder above him. The quintessence pours over him like honey. It feels cold, and his burns hiss at the contact. Keith screams.
“Keith?” Lance screeches to a halt. His chest aches from lack of oxygen, but he continues sprinting, this time in the direction of the howl. He soon comes to the belly of the warehouse, flames dancing between the liters of quintessence. He’s about to yell out when he sees him.
Keith, slumped against the wall, his chest heaving with exhaustion. Lance bolts towards him.
“Keith!” His eyes and hands start to roam over Keith’s body, looking for signs of injury. His under suit is almost gone on his left side, and Lance examines the melted and charred edges that stick out from beneath Keith’s armour. His fingers paw at pale skin. Beautiful and unblemished. Lance’s hands move up to Keith’s neck and he forces his friend to look at him.
“Keith! Are you hurt?! What’s wrong? Can you walk? I can…” His questions hammer out of his mouth. Keith forces his eyes to stay open. The pain from his side is gone, but exhaustion flows through his veins. The world spins. The heat must be getting to him.
“I’m fine!” He manages. Lance notices how he sways on his feet.
“I’m getting you out of here!” Lance hoists Keith’s arm over his shoulders and tries to take most of his weight.
“But the others…?!”
“They’ve already gone. It’s just us, now let’s go!”
Keith only vaguely remembers Lance dragging him into his lion, the hum of the machinery, and Hunk hoisting him into the castle. They placed him in a healing pod, but the pod released him after only a minute. Nothing wrong with him.
Exhaustion, Coran had offered. Dehydration, Pidge diagnosed. Lance carried him to bed after drinking 2 litres of water. It definitely made him feel better. Lance places a cool rag on his head and lays him down.
“Call me if you need anything, ok?” His fingers linger on Keith’s cheek. Keith smiles brightly and giggles.
“I’m fine Lance. Stop worrying.”
Images of Keith’s melted armour flash before him again. Lance tries not to dwell on it.
“Ok… ok… We just can’t afford to lose our leader.” He pats Keith on the shoulder and stands. His hand trails along the door frame as he passes through.
“Lance?”
Lance pauses. He smiles over his shoulder.
“Yeah, man?”
Keith sleepily smiles and sinks into his blankets.
“Thanks for always having my back.”
“That’s what sharpshooters do.” Lance winks before he passes through the door.
Lance rapts his knuckles loudly against Keith’s door the next morning.
“Hey buddy? You survive?”
“I feel like I’ve been hit with a truck.” Keith grumbles inside.
“So nooooo to training then?”
Keith groans louder and Lance chuckles.
“I just wanna sleep.”
“That’s fine. I’ll check on you later.
Lance doesn’t see Keith emerge for the rest of the day.
“Keith?” Lance softly knocks on Keith’s door the next morning. “You feeling any better?”
There’s a drawn out silence.
“Keith?”
“Can you get Allura for me?”
Keith’s reply surprises Lance. The anxiety that had been slowly simmering in his gut heats into a roaring boil. Lance starts to punch in the code to enter.
“Can I come in? Keith I…”
“No!”
Lance jumps back from the door. Fear grips his throat.
“Just… just get Allura for me…” Keith’s voice softens into pleading. “Please…”
Lance spins on his heal.
He delivers Allura, who slips into Keith’s bedroom… without Lance.
It shouldn’t hurt Lance as much as it does. It shouldn’t twist his gut every time he sees Allura enter Keith’s bedroom, sometimes with Coran, sometimes without.
Hadn’t he and Keith bonded now? Didn’t they trust each other with everything?
Lance was supposed to be his right hand man…
Jealousy and fear poisons his thoughts for the next two days.
Sick of moping and of Allura’s tight-lip, Lance does something brash. He waits til light’s out, when everyone’s asleep, and he sneaks to Keith’s door. With a hammer of his fingers, he punches in the entrance code. It honks a jarring tone. Rejected. Lance expected Keith would change his code… but it doesn’t wound him any less.
So Keith was actively keeping him out.
Lance refuses. He pulls out a small brick of technology. He’s gone on enough missions with Pidge now that he’s pretty sure he can use it. Lance isn’t the most academic, but he’s surprisingly observant, and quick to mimic others.
He presses the brick up to the door’s security interface and presses several buttons. Lance happily punches the air at the pleasant chirping noise that announces he is successful. The doors open with a woosh.
Lance steps into the dark room, trying to let his eyes adjust.
“Allura?” A huddled figure asks.
“It’s me.” Lance sighs.
There’s a flurry of activity from Keith’s bed. Keith dives beneath the blankets and wraps himself in a tight cocoon.
“Get out!” He cries.
Lance sharply exhales. With defiance, he reaches out and slams on the light switch. He almost blinds himself, but the bedroom soon becomes visible as it’s flooded with light. Keith continues to hide under his blankets.
“Lance, please!” There’s a tremor to Keith’s shout. A fear and vulnerability that Lance has never heard before. It hits him in his chest, but he doesn’t go away. He slowly approaches the bed. His hand shakes as he reaches out and touches what he thinks is Keith’s shoulder.
“Keith…Keith please…” Lance shocks himself with how strained his voice sounds. Hot tears begin to fall down his tan cheeks.
“Go away.” Keith’s voice is softer. His grip on his blanket tightens.
“How!” Lance’s voice cracks. “How am I just supposed to leave you?! I’m so…”
The sobs start to burst out. He can’t control them anymore. His knees buckle and he collapses beside the bed. His balled up fists slam into the mattress
“I’m so scared, Keith! And you won’t tell me anything! Are you hurt? Are you mad at me! Please!” Lance weeps. He weeps until the sheet underneath him is damp. The blankets shift.
Keith’s body trembles. Lance sniffs. His eyes still water, but he manages to collect himself enough to listen. To listen to the quiet crying of the boy beneath the blanket. Lance immediately assembles himself. He drapes his body over Keith’s and holds tight. Keith’s crying becomes louder.
“Keith… Keith please, I’m really scared. I just want to help you.” Lance tries to make his voice sound soothing and even.
“I never wanted to hurt you.” Keith’s voice is high and wavers violently. Lance can tell he’s struggling. “I just…”
Lance slips his fingers underneath the blanket and starts to pull. Keith doesn’t resist. He just whimpers when the cold air touches his body and he curls into a tighter ball on his side. Lance’s eyes roam over his body…. this isn’t the side Keith was burned on.
With a firm hand, he grabs Keith’s shoulder and rolls him onto his back. Lance gasps.
Purple mars Keith’s skin. His entire left arm, creeping across his neck and up his jaw. It’s mottled down his leg, and Lance sees a glimpse of it peak out from beneath Keith’s shirt. This isn’t what make’s Lance gasp though. It’s the wide, yellow eyes that seem to glow even in this bright light. Lance looks down into Keith’s face, his shock evident. Keith can’t handle it any more. He raises his arms and covers his face.
“Can you see me?” Lance quietly asks.
“I can see the way you look at me, yeah!” Keith sobs.
“That’s good. I was worried you were blind.” Soft hands grip Keith’s wrists and his arms are pulled away from his face. Lance smiles gently as he continues to tug Keith into a seated position. He examines Keith’s face closely, and he tucks his hair behind his ear to see how much of his neck and face has been marked. The skin looks healthy… although purple.
“Are you in pain?”
“No.”
Lance sighs. Relief erupts through him so violently that he feels his body shake. He presses their foreheads together.
“Thank god. Are you sick?”
“No. When I was burned I…” Keith pulls away and averts his eyes. He guiltily bites his lip.
“I poured quintessence on myself to heal..”
“Keith!” Lance’s panic reemerges. He grips both of Keith’s shoulders.
“What was I supposed to do, Lance! You didn’t see how bad…” Keith’s eyes start to water again. “I wouldn’t have…”
“Are you poisoned? Do we have to…”
“No!” Keith brushes of Lance’s grip. “No no…” He speaks softer. He realises Lance’s panic is warranted. He uses his still human coloured hand to gently hold Lance’s. Lance laces their fingers together.
“I’m not going to turn evil.” He huffs out a laugh. “Allura just thinks that… in the healing process somehow… my galra side may have been like… “activated”?” He shakes his head.
“I dunno, it was a bunch of mumbo jumbo. I just got that I wasn’t going to die or turn evil, but yeah I’m purple now and can see stuff way in the dark. It’s weird.”
Lance laughs. He pulls Keith in for a tight hug and pets his hair. It’s soft.
“I’m so glad you’re ok.”
“Ok?” Keith huffs. He shrugs out of the hug.
“Lance! Look at me! I can’t let others… I…” Keith’s voice shakes again. His mouth twists with emotion.
“I’m…!”
“You’re beautiful.”
Keith freezes. He forgets how to breathe. Lance… golden boy with the brilliant smile and breathtaking legs couldn’t have… no… Keith must have misheard him.
“What?” He breathes. Lance laughs and moves in close. He grips the back of Keith’s neck and places a chaste kiss to the purple on his jaw. He pulls away smiling.
“You’re beautiful.” He repeats. “You always have been.” He kisses the purple on his cheek.
“You always will be.” He beams. Keith has to look away. Too many emotions are crashing inside of him. He isn’t sure which will rush out.
“How can you of all people say that?”
“What do you mean? Don’t I have an eye for beautiful things?” Lance teases. A hint of a smile creeps on Keith’s lips.
“Lance, you’re just…”
Lance silences Keith with another kiss. This one on the lips. Keith sees stars.
“I’ll never lie to you, Keith.” Lance rests their foreheads together. His thumb rubs against Keith’s jaw.
“Wow your eyes are bright.”
“Sorry.”
“No, no, don’t be.” Lance laughs. “They look like stars.”
Keith flushes. It looks pretty as it darkens the purple of his skin to a rich violet.
“You’re too much.” Keith laughs. This time it’s him that dares to lean forward and kiss Lance. Lance hums in surprise, then sinks into the kiss. His hands gently rest on either side of Keith’s neck. He lowers him down onto the mattress and kisses Keith sweetly, before Keith’s kisses become more demanding. Their tongues slide against one another and Keith fists the back of Lance’s shirt. His leg hooks over Lance’s waist. Lance pulls away with a gasp.
He looks down at Keith, chest heaving and dark hair spilling around his face. His lips are swollen, and his bright eyes sparkle under the ceiling lights. The purple of his skin reminds lance of the grape candies he would suck on as a kid. He wants to run his tongue along them.
“Beautiful” He sighs once more.
“I still need persuading” Keith tugs Lance into another bruising kiss.
In the morning, Keith isn’t the only one with purple marks on his body.

Keithhad known what happiness was from a young age thanks to his dad. Keith had oncethought that his dad had been enough for him and he was blessed. Then Keith gothis grandparents and his uncle Kuro and he still didn’t think life could getbetter. Until he met Hunk, Lance and Pidge.
Keithwas thankful every day for having gone to Allura’s program and meeting thosethree. Keith had struggled to make friends all his life and even now thosethree were all the friends he had, but they were all that Keith needed. He’dknown them practically his whole life and he couldn’t imagine it without anyone of them.
              EspeciallyLance.
Evenafter being married to Lance for six months now, Keith was still in awe. Everytime he looked down at the engagement ring that Lance had surprised him with, after his return home from his service in the military, on one hand and now hiswedding ring on the other, Keithstill couldn’t believe it. He still couldn’t believe that he’d been with thisman for nearly a decade now. He still couldn’t believe that Lance had finallyasked him out to the carnival on the dock at sixteen for their first date, which led to another and then another and then another. He still couldn’t believethat Lance’s hugs and kisses always greeted him after a long day of work, orthat Lance’s family still cooked for the newlyweds often. He couldn’t believethat just six months ago he’d said, “I do” to the love of his life and went ontheir honeymoon together.
And tothink it all started with Keith accidentally knocking down Lance’s sandcastleat the age of four.
Keithwas sure the two of them were disgustingly sweet, always holding hands orlaughing and kissing, but Lance always knew when a line was crossed. He knewwhen it was too much for Keith or when to back off. He never pressured Keithinto sex ever and he was content tojust walk side-by-side with Keith if it was too much for Keith.
Ofcourse they still bickered and fought, but that was always overpowered withtenderness and love between the two.
“I’vegot a late night today with teacher training for the new school year so don’twait up.” Lance said, kissing Keith before pulling him into his arms. Keithrolled his eyes at Lance’s attempts to be romantic but couldn’t help but grinat his husband.
“Boo, myhusband leaves little old me to eatall alone and sleep alone today.” Keith fake pouted while Lance rubbed circlesinto his hips.
“Awbabe, come on, don’t be that way.” Lance whined, pressing soft kisses all alongKeith’s face. Keith couldn’t stop himself from laughing at the butterfly-likefeeling. “It’s not like I’d rather be trained again on how to teach a bunch of five-year-old brats, rather thanspend time with my gorgeous husband.”
Keithlaughed again, eyes catching the silver wedding rings on Lance’s hand. Like always,he found himself draw to tracing over the ring with scarred hands. “Alright, Isuppose it’s okay. And you know you love those kids.” Keith leaned up to giveLance one last peck on the lips before sliding out of Lance’s arms. He ignoredLance’s pathetic whine to head into the kitchen.
“That Ido. But not as much as I love you!” Lance called out before opening the frontdoor.
“Yeah, Ilove you too.” Keith said, smiling at Lance’s small whoop of happiness. Helooked down at his own rings and couldn’t keep the cheesy grin from his face. Lance could be a dork sometimes, but atleast he’s my dork.
x.V.x
It waslate, and after a long day of repairing the old studio to look new, and Keithwas exhausted. He’d barely made dinner, since Lance wasn’t home and Keith couldnot having some sort of a cooked mealwaiting for his husband, before he’d fallen face first into their bed to sleep. He fell asleep knowing Lance would be home soon enough, pressed up next to himwhere he could lay his head on Lance’s chest. Maybe his hair would annoy Lanceand tickle him, since he’d grown it out past his shoulders, knowing that Lancewouldn’t move a muscle if Keith pretended he was asleep.
However, instead of being awoken by Lance’s warm arms, he was instead awoke to the loudring of the phone and an empty bed.
Theircat Bluedot (we can’t name her Blue,Keith, not after my girl) was annoyed and meowed loudly at the noiseinstantly awaking their overly large puppy Marmora. Between Bluedot hissing,Marmora barking and the phone ringing, Keith could feel a headache coming on.However, he stumbled over an eager Marmora and managed to reach the phone afterthe sixth ring.
              “Hello?”He sleepily asked.
“Hi, I’m looking for a Keith Shirogane?”An unfamiliar voice said over the line and Keith frowned. He momentarilyrecalled the argument between Keith and Lance about which last name they wouldsettle for and even though Lance proposed, they had decided to keep theShirogane name. Keith was touched when Lance admitted he knew how much his namemeant to Keith and that he never planned on having Keith change it.
“This ishim. Can I ask who is calling?”
“I’m Dr.Ross at St. Andrea’s hospital. I’m calling because you are the husband and emergencycontact for Lance Shirogane.” Instantly, Keith felt his entire body freeze asif icy fingers were squeezing him. His breathing had stopped short and he couldfeel his arms trembling. No, no, no.Lance is okay. He has to be. This is all a dream.
              “L-Lance?”He asked tightly.
              “Yes. Ishe your husband?”
Keithswallowed thickly. “Y-Yes. He’s my husband. Please, is he okay?” Keith desperatelyasked, ignoring Marmora and Bluedot who had both wandered into the room. Theyboth stared at Keith, as if worried, but Keith couldn’t focus on anything butthe voice on the other side of the line.
“I’mafraid your husband was in a car accident. Another car swerved on a patch ofice and hit his side of the car. He was taken into surgery for his leg, aboutten minutes ago. I’m calling to let you know that he’s hear and we’ll needsomeone to fill out forms in case any other emergency surgeries are needed.”The doctor continued and Keith felt as if his whole world was falling. Theworld was dangerously tilting andKeith had to grab the counter to stop himself from falling. Mamroa whined andBluedot tried to cuddle up next to Keith’s legs. This can’t be happening. Lance has to be fine. He’ll be coming homeany second now, with that stupid grin on his face and those bright blue eyes hehas.
              This isn’t happening.
“O-Okay.”Keith said shakily, amazing at how calm his voice remained. “I’ll be down assoon as I can. Thank you for calling me.” Keith’s body was numb but it wasalready moving to where he had last put his shoes, with Marmora and Bluedottrailing behind.
“Alright. We’ll keep you updated as you get here.”
“Please,”Keith licked his lips, feeling his breath turning shallow. The doctor was quieton the other side of the line but didn’t hang up. “Please take care of myhusband.”
              “…Ipromise we will.”
ThenKeith was racing to the hospital.
x.V.x
“Keith,oh, have they told you anything?” Keith numbly looked up upon seeing severalpeople entering the hospital room. He hadn’t left the bedside since the doctorshad emerged from surgery and allowed him back to see Lance. It was horrifyingto see his husband so lifeless on thehospital bed covered in bandages. His usually sunny skin was paler than Keithhad ever seen it and only make the situation look worse than it was.
Thankfully,Keith got up to greet Lance’s parents. Both of which pulled him into asurprising hug, kissing his cheek before going over to their son’s bedside. Then Keith was drawn into a tight hug by his own dad. It was then that Keithfinally allowed his body to break down, like it had been wanting to for hours.
Quietly,Shiro pulled the two of them out of the room to give Lance’s family someprivacy and for Keith. They were allowed into a quieter, empty room where Keithsobbed into his father’s chest. It was a bit awkward with Keith being tallerthan Shiro now, but Shiro easily pulled him down and rubbed soothing circlesinto Keith’s hair.
“Shh.Shh.” Shiro soothed softly, not even wincing when Keith dug his nails into his back. His son looked awful when Shiro hadfinally seen him, nowhere near as bad as Lance, but still bad. Keith neededthis moment and he needed to let out the pain instead of bottling it in. Shiroquietly heard the door opening and saw Kuro entering and shutting the doorbehind him.
“It’s okay Keith. He’s going to bealright? Lance is going to make a full recovery.” Shiro continued to whisper asKeith’s cries went on. Kuro found himself gently rubbing Keith’s shaking back. “Thedoctors said that he’ll be fine. He’ll need some help for a while but he’sgonna be fine and they’ll wake him up tomorrow. It’s okay. He’s okay.”
Keithcried even harder but attempted to nod against his father. He knew that Shirowas right and that he was repeating everything that the doctors had told Keith. But Keith was just so tired.
              “I – I can’tlose him.” Keith finally choked out.
“OhKeith, you’re not going to lose him.” Shiro pulled Keith’s head away from hisbody so they could look right at each other. He then gently wiped the tearsfrom Keith’s eyes. “Lance is aliveand he’s going to be fine. You won’t lose him.”
Keithsniffled, red faced with bags under his eyes and hair a mess. “B -  But what if I do?”
“Now, Idon’t wanna hear you talking like that.” Kuro snapped suddenly, surprising bothKeith and Shiro. Shiro narrowed his eyes at Kuro, wanting to scold his brother’sblunt behavior only to stay quiet at Kuro’s look.
“Enoughof that crap.” Kuro said again and Keith bit back a cry. “Lance is going to be fine. He’s alive; he’s breathing on hisown and he is not in life-threateningconditions. You need to stop thinking that the worst is going to happen andthink about what’s good right now.”
“Kuro…”Shiro said softly, earning another look from his brother. Keith hiccuppedbefore frowning.
“I’msorry that I can’t think like that after my husbandwas just in an awful car accident.” Keith bit back sharply. Kuro’s lips almosttwisted upward in a grin. “At least I’m not emotionlesslike everyone seems to think. Sorry for crying over him.”
“No oneis saying you shouldn’t be emotional Keith.” Kuro said, much gentler than before.Shiro eventually caught on to what his brother was saying and smiled. “We’reall not saying that. It’s okay to be mad or upset or whatever. But you can’t think the worst. You need to bepositive because that’s what Lance is going to need when he wakes up.”
              “Hecould have died!” Keith snapped.
              “But hedidn’t.” Kuro replied.
“Keith,”Shiro cut in softly. “Listen to your uncle. He’s right, for once.” Shiroignored the wounded look on Kuro’s face to look at his son. Keith was shockedto see his own father siding with Kuro rather than him. “You have every rightto be upset and to cry and that’s not what he’s trying to get you to stop. Hewants you to stop fearing that Lance is going to die because it’s draining on you. You can’t function ifyou’re always thinking that the worst will happen to Lance after this.”
“You’redad’s right. Thanks Takashi.” Kurorolled his eyes and put a hand on Keith’s shoulders. “I know it’s hard, but it’sgoing to be a hell of a lot harder for Lance, and he needs you by his side. Heneeds a positive force by his side to keep him going when it gets rough. You’reboth allowed to be angry and upset that this happened but you can’t keepthinking of all the bad when there’s so much good. Your husband is alive with injuries that will heal. Keith, you and the two of us, understand physical scars more than anybody and how hardthey can be. Isn’t it wonderful that Lance will only have minor scars; that hisleg didn’t needed to be amputated or that he will have full mobility when heheals.”
It tooksome time but eventually Keith nodded.
“AndLance is alive. Lance will soon enough come home to you to your precious puppyand that hellion you call a cat.” Kuro continued, while Keith’s grin only grewwider and wider.
“Bluedotis wonderful, especially to Lance.” Keith said gently, and Kuro rubbed his chinthoughtfully.
“Maybewe can get it to see Lance in the hospital. But I’ll make Shiro do is becausethat is a demon cat.” Kuro shuddered and Shiro protested loudly.
“As if.I’m not touching Bluedot. She yelled at me. I’ll gladly sneak Marmora inbecause he is such a good boy.” Shiro replied, causing Keith to laugh wetly.
“Okay, okay. I get it. Stop being so emo.” Keith finally said with a relieved sigh. Hegrinned again when his dad and his uncle both pulled him in for a bone crushinghug. Keith whined playfully, demanding to be let go but the two only held ontighter until Keith couldn’t stop laughing.I’m lucky to have the family that I have.
And to get to share it withLance.
Thatnight, when Lance finally woke up Keith had immediately threatened to castratehim if he ever did another night trainingagain, before smothering Lance with kisses. Lance took it all with grace andlet his husband and family fret and worry over him until Keith and Lance werefinally alone. They stayed up talking about anything and everything, like theydid as kids, until Lance fell asleep. His hand was still in Keith’s and Keithsmiled. He then leaned down to press a soft kiss to Lance’s lips before closinghis own eyes and getting some much needed sleep.
              “I loveyou Lance.”

Hello! I'm scared to do this off anon.. but! My favorite color is anything pastel! My favorite is usually just the most popular ship that includes my favorite character in any show I watch (ex. Klance), it's easy to get attached because there's a lot of content. My fav ice cream is Vanilla with fruit on it. I have 6 cats! Barathe (blind Bengal), Lekai (Bengal), Poupi (Black), Doudi (white/cream), Spike (Tuxedo), and River (Tuxedo). And Bonus! My fav animal is a polar bear! - Polarbear Anon
again, it’s no problem to stay on anon, i’m happy to talk to you either way :D
pastel colors are really pretty!!! they are soft and nice to look at. if you have a pastel colored blog/icon chances are that i already feel as if you are a pro at graphic design lmao
LUCKY YOU OMG my favorite ship is almost never the most popular ship... i actually started shipping something else before klance but it’s a pretty small ship with next to no community here. plus klance was my sister’s favorite ship, so she converted me with next to no effort :P
oh man, i do the thing with my favorite person too though!! my favorite ship always includes my favorite person :0 i mean, i guess it makes sense... you are already invested in one character, so it’s easy to find a good ship for them. but it’s still interesting to hear that other people do that too^^
vanilla isn’t really my taste, but vanilla with fruit is excellent. i love fruits in general, so you can’t go wrong with that hah
YOU HAVE SO MANY CATS I’M CRYING OH GOD PLS GIVE THEM ALL A HUG FROM ME,,, ,, i’m sobbing you’re so lucky you’ve got so many pets to cuddle with,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
polar bears!!!!! :0 i don’t know a lot about them but they are interesting. one of my friends did her science project on their fur (how it keeps the warmth in etc) and it was super interesting. my favorite animals are raccoons
Send me your description, your fav color/ship/ice cream flavor, and if you have a cat

Sorry I'm not sure if you're still taking prompts but can I have Klance with guitar playing Lance? Your writing is just beautiful!
WITH ABSOLUTE PLEASURE and thank you so much
Can you tell I have a terrible weakness for making these two get overwhelmed and just kiss because they’re terrible at talking
Keith stillcouldn’t quite believe it. He ran his hand across the wood and the strings, gently tweaking the tuning machines, strumming gently. He felt a soft smilespread across his face. It had been years since he had owned a guitar; he hadnever thought to find one in space. Granted, the people who had sold it hadcalled it a thrummo and he had toadjust the tuning, but it was indisputably a guitar. He hesitantly tested hisfingering, moving slowly from one cord to another, then speeding up, a bud ofwarm joy growing in his chest as the music flowed beneath his fingers. As hefound his fingers remembered all their patterns, knew where to go and when, hestarted to improvise a tune, something simple, stealing half-remembered linesof melodies drawn from fuzzy recollections of learning to play, watching onlinevideos over and over, fingers slipping on the strings until they bled, dayafter day until he’d grown calluses to cover them. His eyes slid halfwayclosed, listening to the music, occasionally wincing at a sour note, untileventually he found his way back to the tonic cord and let the vibrations fadeinto silence. He sat back with a smile, eyes closed, tilting his head back andreveling in the peace the music brought up. Until, that is, he was jolted outof his by soft applause. His head jerked up to see Lance standing in thedoorway, clapping. When Keith’s eyes opened, his hands spread in apology.
“Sorry, Ididn’t mean to eavesdrop,” he said. “I heard the music, I didn’t realize… I waswondering what you had bought on Gripzin. I had no idea you could play theguitar!” Keith’s temper, so ready to flare up at the mere sight of the BluePaladin, fizzled at the sincere admiration on Lance’s face. He shrugged.
“I’mprobably not that good anymore,” he said. “It’s been a couple years.”
“Yousounded amazing to me,” Lance said. “Um, do you mind if I…?” he hesitated withone foot over the threshold.
“…Sure,”Keith said, though he held the guitar slightly closer to his chest. Lancesauntered in and plopped down on the floor next to Keith, staring at theguitar.
“My littlebrother was just starting his lessons when I left for the Garrison,” Lancesaid. He sighed and leaned back against the wall. “I bet he’s amazing at it bynow. That or he’s terrible and everyone at home hates him,” he chuckled.
“Do youplay anything?” Keith asked, still clutching the guitar a little tighter thanwas necessary. Lance shook his head.
“Nah. I’venever exactly been a natural at numbers and physics, so studying to be a pilotwas pretty much my entire life. I wouldn’t have had time for practice.” Hesighed wistfully. “I love music though. I had a player tucked in my pocket whenwe left the Garrison, I must have listened to every song on it a hundred timessince we got here.” Keith chewed his lip, considering. He bent over the guitarand strummed and experimental cord. Lance sat back up straight, looking at him.
           “What songare y—?”
“Shhh,”Keith hushed him, and strummed the cord again. He began a quick tune full ofsharps and clashing cords, shifting under his fingers as fast as he could movethem. Lance was watching him with rapt attention, but Keith carefully avoidedlooking at him as the key of the song changed, bringing in a swell of majorfifths and octaves, soaring and plummeting back into something quiet, soft, andsweet, fingers picking out the melody slowly and carefully, letting each strumhover and fade before the next. The song ended on a question mark, the melodynot quite fully resolved. Keith sat back slowly, still not quite looking atLance.
“Keith,” heheard, murmured softly. “That was beautiful. What song was that?” Keithswallowed, briefly considered bolting, then considered lying, and finally bitthe bullet and told the truth.
“It’s mine.Or, actually, it’s… yours. I… made it up for you. About you. It’s a song aboutyou.” He winced, waiting for a response. Lance was silent so long he finallydared glance over. Lance’s lips were parted slightly, his eyes shining.
“Keith…” hesaid. “I… don’t know what to say.”
“You don’thave to say anything,” he said, moving to put the guitar down, but Lancestopped him with a hand on his arm.
“No, I… Ido. That was… It was beautiful, Keith. Really. I’m not just saying that becauseI’m supposed to or whatever, it really, really was, it—” Keith spun abruptlyand pressed his lips briefly against Lance’s cheek. He quickly jumped up, putthe guitar down gently on his bed, and hurried out of the room, anuncontrollable smile cracking his cheeks.
[I am no longer accepting prompts, just completing the ones in my inbox]
