#And the only thing she weaponizes.....are her weapons....because she's a space marine
Text
Something always fascinating to me is the "character who thinks they're in a different genre" phenomenon. The theme of the story you are telling determines what the right and wrong actions to take are; but the characters, reacting in-universe to the situation, don't know what story they're in, and the exact same responses can be what saves you or damns you depending on what kind of story the author is telling and what the story's message is about what life is like.
In Wolf 359, Warren Kepler approaches the mysterious and powerful aliens with threats; he kills their liaison and tries to position himself as a powerful opponent. However, he's shown to be wrong and making things worse: his preemptive aggression is unwarranted and unhelpful and bites him in the ass. The aliens want to communicate and understand humanity and share our music. It's Doug Eiffel, the pacifistic (and kind of scaredy-cat) communications officer who loves to talk and share pop culture, who talks to them and understands that the aliens are scary not because they want to kill us but because they don't understand the concepts of individuals and death. Talking to them, communicating with them, understanding where they're coming from and and bringing them to understand a human point of view, is what succeeds. Openness rather than suspicion, trust rather than aggression. Kepler thinks he's a dramatic space marine protecting the Earth from the alien threat by showing them humans are tough and can take them, but that's not the kind of story this is.
Conversely, in Janus Descending, Chel is in awe of the strange and beautiful alien world around her. She wants to touch it, understand it, get up close to it. When she sees a crystal alien dog, she wants to befriend it, despite Peter's warning. But when she gets close to it, extending her arm in greeting, it attacks her and drags her down into the cave to try to eat her. This sets the inevitable tragedy in motion. Suspicion is warranted; trust will get you killed. Because this is a sci-fi horror, with a major running thematic reading about how racism and sexism will destroy your brain and your society, and how the people who think they're too smart to be prejudiced don't see their own prejudice and will end up ruining the lives of the people they still don't fully see as equals, this kind of trust that Chel shows this strange alien is tragic. However it is also a horror story where there are very real hibernating space snakes ready to wake up and eat the fresh meat that has landed on their planet, and by being too trusting Chel has accidentally introduced herself to one.
Kepler, suspicious and ready to shoot any alien he doesn't understand, would likely have survived Janus Descending; Chel, with her enthusiasm for learning about and meeting aliens, would have been a wonderful and helpful member of the Wolf 359 crew.
In a similar manner, in Alien, Ellen Ripley yells to the rest of her crew not to bring the attacked crewmember with the alien on his face back on the ship and into the medical bay, you don't know what contamination that thing might have; she's ignored. She tells them not to let the crewmember out of quarantine even though he seems fine; she's ignored again. Ripley is the one person protesting this isn't safe, we don't know what's going on, and she is consistently ignored, until an alien bursts out of her crewmate's chest and then eats everyone and Ripley is proven to be right and also the only survivor. (And it turns out that the science officer consistently overriding her protests was an android sent by the company that contracted them, and said android was given orders to bring the alien back so the company could study it and do weapons development with it, try not to let the crew find out about it, and kill them if he had to in order to do so!)
Ripley's paranoia and mistrust of the situation was correct, because Alien is a space horror and the theme is in space no one can hear you scream (also corporations consider you expendable).
Conversely, in All Systems Red, we have a damaged and almost-combat-overridden Murderbot being brought back into the PreservationAux hab medical bay after being attacked by other SecUnits. Gurathin becomes the one person protesting this isn't safe, we don't know what's going on, he doesn't want to let Murderbot out because it's hacked and probably sabotaging them for the company contracted their security and sent it with them. Gurathin thinks he is the Ellen Ripley here! He is trying to warn his teammates not to make a dangerous mistake that will get everyone killed!
However, All Systems Red is a very different story than Alien, and Murderbot is neither a traitor on behalf of the company to sabotage them and steal alien remnants for weapons development, nor a threat to the humans - it's a friend, it's a good person, and it wants to help them against both companies willing to screw them over. Trusting it and helping it is the right thing to do and is what saves their lives. Gurathin is proven to be wrong.
If everyone on the Nostromo crew had listened to Ellen Ripley, they would still be alive (except Kane. RIP Kane), because this is a horror story about being isolated and hunted and going up against this horrifying thing that wants to kill and eat you and just keeps getting stronger. If everyone on the PreservationAux team listened to Gurathin, they would all be dead, because this is a story about friendship and teamwork and trust and overcoming trauma and accepting the personhood of someone very different from you.
Same responses. Different context. And so very different moral conclusions.
Warren Kepler was about how the brash violent over-confident approach to things you don't understand is wrong, and that openness and developing that understanding between people is what's important; Chel was about the tragedy of trust destroying a Black woman who wanted so much to believe in a world that could be kind and beautiful. Ripley was about a woman whose expertise and safety warnings were ignored and brushed aside and everyone who did so died because of it; Gurathin was about how even justified fear shouldn't mean you make someone else a scapegoat and mistrust them because they seem scary.
Sometimes you're in the wrong genre because you need to be, because the author is trying to show how not to react to the situation they set up in order to build the mood and the theme they're trying to convey.

I Got My Eyes On You // T. Nott [Part 1]
Tumblr media
Theodore Nott x girl!reader
!! ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE !!
Summary: Y/n Bones is part of one of the richest families in the wizarding world. She and Theodore grew up together, and for all these years, Nott watched her in silence, fascinated by every facet of her.
The two began a strange friendship after an incident and now, they meet frequently in the room of need.
Tumblr media
“Hello, Nott" Y/n greets the boy from Slytherin "You’ve been coming here a lot lately"
The dark one goes in.
"It’s to make sure you’re still alive," Theodore replies, serene.
Y/n smiles.
“Come see what I found!”
And, of course, Theodore approaches.
The witch makes a grimace.
“By Salazar! What is this? Some kinda of muggle weaponry?”
The girl from Ravenclaw laughs.
“It’s called dry-er” She spells “Do you know what he does?”
“Does it dry things out?”
“It dries the moisture out of your hair! Isn’t that amazing?! It’s kind of noisy, but the technology is admirable. I mean, we can dry our hair with a swivel of the wand and the muggles invented an instrument that does it for them! They are really interesting little creatures"
Theodore laughs weakly.
Y/n blinks.
“You find literally anything amazing”
“And you have a limited brain, typical of a Slytherin” The youngest rolls her eyes.
“I like to explore, but I'm more into spells and potions, herbs, spices. Things that actually add something, because they are part of my reality”
Y/n looks at the brunette as if to say “Seriously?”
“That is, limited”
Theodore shrugs.
"Comes! I got more stuff!” And she pulls the Slytherin boy to the other corner of the room, without caring about personal space “Woow! Guess what it is!”
Nott looks at it strangely.
“This is definitely a weapon”
Y/n laughs.
“It’s a fan!” It spells “Speak! Fan!”
“Fan”
“Your Italian accent is really cute, so I’ll let that one slide”
Theodore rolls his eyes.
“And what does this thing do?”
“It refreshes the environment to alleviate the heat. See those propellers? They rotate counterclockwise and generate wind.”
Theodore blinks.
“Ok, this is cool”
“It is not?!!” She exclaims, exited.
For some inexplicable reason, Theodore likes being with the girl.
In a way, they grew up together. The brunette remembers that Y/n was always quirky. While the brothers ran up and down exploring the giant Bones mansion, Y/n spent time in the garden, looking for insects.
Theodore observed all his phases: The insect phase, the instrument phase, the color phase, the painting phase, the stars and aliens phase and marine animals...
Without the youngest noticing, Nott's eyes have always been on her.
He tried hard, condemned and fucked several girls... But it was no use, because the more Y/n grew, the more interesting and unique she became.
And beautiful.
Soon the others began to notice this fact, and Theodore wanted to smash the face of every boy who approached her with flowers or chocolate. To make matters worse, Y/n is a social virus, she smiles at everyone and is kind to the entire Hogwarts.
Finally, Theodore came to grips with her reality…
He would forever be an observer.
Until that day.
The day Y/n ran him over with a skateboard on summer vacation and they both broke their arms. She just burst into tears, but they weren't tears of pain, they were tears of guilt.
Somehow, after that moment, a strange and singularity friendship began between the two. They started to meet in the room of need and that was when Y/n introduced Nott to her new phase:
Explore Muggle Objects
“Why did you decide to be my friend after so long?” She asks suddenly, walking over to the sofa and throwing herself on it anyway “They say you’re not friends with girls, you only fuck them”
And suddenly, Bones sits down with everything.
“Merlim! Have you ever eaten Parkinson's ?!"
Theodore can’t stand it, laughing.
“Parkinson’s?! Do you swear? She’s not my type”
“Your type is blondes, from what Emma told me. That girl spends her whole day taking care of other people’s lives, there’s nothing she doesn’t know.”
“In fact, I like blondes… But she’s not my favorite type”
"And which one is it?" And Y/n blinks those little eyes, without malice in her question.
You – He wanted to respond.
"Next time we meet here, I'll tell you"
Tumblr media
This is just something silly that I wrote, it's not good, but I still wanted to publish it because
I don't know, I thought it was cute? Who knows, maybe I'll continue

Fsm for fun and christmas gayming
Soooooo a friend recently gave me some space marine sheets. I dont play sm so I cannot fathom why they did this. But I've had a pretty fun time painting them and basing them of of me and my friends!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So the one I made first was just as a test for the colour scheme but she is now the leader, I never do glowy weapons but i was surprised how good it came out
Tumblr media
Next i added me! To get the hair right I walked up to the guy who owns the lgs, grabbed a fistful of my hair and asked him to colour match it. And he did a great job! I also put a nifty trans decal on her front because I like living like that and putting it into my hobbies. She was also a kitbash, the other three leader looking ones were ment to have cool extras.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next was someone very close to me with blue hair pronouns (she/they) and a GUN in real life. So it was a very easy conversion and they get two guns
Tumblr media
Finally the other person very close to me gets two swords. I think it looks pretty good!
Tumblr media
I've also recently finished a fifth one and will use it here to show the process:
So here are the primary and ancillary colours I used
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This green takes three coats because it comes out fairly wispy
Tumblr media
Next is a dark green for the under armor peices. I find It works better than just black so the actual black parts can seem like a different more flexible texture
Next is black in all the joints and and the main trim
Tumblr media
And finally for the main colours I used a gold leaf paint. This paint sucks and I hate it. It's very watery and takes alot of shaking to get it useable. It's the other white fr
Tumblr media
So onto the other colours. Some are only used on single peices. This one is just on the gun casing
Tumblr media
There are alot of metal bits all over, you cant see it to well but theres some on the helmet pipes.
Tumblr media
Next is the bronze, with this the backpack is done
Tumblr media
Then theres the browns for all the pouches and the seal. For the deal I also usual do a thin white on top to give it a more papery look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This red is used exactly once and it's on the wax seal
Tumblr media
I use a much lighter red on the chain sword and the base level of the sholder fire
Tumblr media
Next is an orange and a yellow applied with very messy strokes to give it that 'flame' effect. Theres also the yellow on the eyes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then after some touch ups and re lining some areas (yall dont have to do this but I'm messy) shes ready to join her sisters
Tumblr media
There also things like oil or highlighting I could do but I'm going to hold of on that for all models until I've figured out where I'm gonna set them

"The Space Between the Stars" Chapter 9 is up!
READ HERE: Chapter 9- Part of You
"It’s hard enough when they pull themselves apart after their emotional reunion—lying there, trembling on the ground, bodies encircling each other and tangled every possible way. Wrapped in one another in both catharsis and pain, caused by the fact that each of them, at one point or another over the last several days, thought the other was dead.
It was a nightmare realm where fetid acid had sluiced down their backs, causing them to feel nothing but the soul-twisting grief, as though half of each of their bodies had just shut down and stopped functioning.
A body trying to survive with one lung.
Half a heart.
One leg and one arm.
For a moment, Aloy understood how Kotallo felt, if only in that feeling of loss. And along with the loss of something significant, whatever it might be, were the phantom pains— angry, forked lesions blossoming over the thing that is missing, even though it’s not there. She understands now why he sometimes has Zo use her healing hands to massage blood through what’s left of his limb.
For Aloy and Seyka, they’d been left evaluating what the point was, of anything.
But they need to get up now, and wash the trauma away. They also need to get back to the relic-ruin-turned-base because they would be soon ready to ascend up to Heaven’s Rest to take the MSP data out of the hands of those who would pass it off to the Emporer of the Quen, who was easily susceptible of the influence of the Zeniths…and therefore Nemesis.
Aloy reasons with herself that she needs to get up so that she can tend to Seyka, something she finds herself desperate to do. So she calls Reggie the Sunwing and finds a large freshwater pond located up behind the volcano, insisting to Seyka that she needs to care for her before worrying about anything else.
Aloy then calls Beta and the others and tells them they will be making a pit stop. They’d responded that most people were still eating some of the food they’d brought for dinner and preparing their weapons, and it was early yet, so no rush.
Attacking when most of the Devotees turned in for the night would be better anyway.
Now, after they land near the pond, she has Seyka strip down, discarding the filthy, torn tunic her captors had made her wear. Then Aloy takes her own outfit off, and is now down to her underclothes. She tosses her outfit on top of a large boulder next to the pond, along with some of her other belongings.
She takes out the Tenakth soap she keeps in her travel things, and then (gently) orders Seyka to wade into the water and sit on a large, flat rock. She scrubs her down, hands soothing and steady, washing away the grime and blood, with Seyka subtly directing her fingers to sore muscles and inflamed skin as Aloy watches her visibly relax more and more as the moments go on.
She’d given Seyka food she’d brought for her, and Seyka eats it while Aloy works. She eats like anyone would after having barely anything for three days— as though she’s going to inhale it.
In the meantime, Aloy carefully cleans her wounds and frees her body from the traces of the ordeal she'd just been through. For her, it was therapeutic just to be able to touch Seyka’s skin again, as though physical contact between them was her food source, and she was the one becoming quenched from three days confined— or even traipsing through the desert.
However, for Aloy herself, this means that rage is also bubbling up with every cut and bruise she uncovers across Seyka’s skin— and in this moment, she’s experiencing an aberrated realm where she’s separated from her own body, unable to move, frozen from the disgust that she can’t hide from.
Seyka, always perceptive with her, stands and just lifts her chin and kisses her, slow and gentle like slipping down beneath the swell of waves, looking into Aloy’s eyes with her own, which are pitch black in the moonlight, “Look at me…I am okay, Aloy… I am a marine...things like this happen, but I still wouldn’t change it for the world, because I never would have met you.”
Aloy cannot speak, and is still attempting to look down, tears flowing, nausea rolling over her like the spike of the tide, along with the spasms and a particular tasting self-abhorrence that feels like her psyche is lined with nails.
Seyka slides her nose up Aloy’s, pulling slow kisses from her lips that feel increasingly like gravity being defied, then she takes the soap from her, wading deeper into the water to wash the blood from her matted hair as Aloy watches her bare silhouette flex against the rising moon like a superliminal phantasm yanked from the most protected corners of her consciousness.
Seyka wades to the deeper areas of the pond to rinse and to swim for a moment, disappearing under the ripples, reconnecting with the element that she is so spiritually fused with.
Aloy is so sick to her stomach by this time that she stumbles to the shore of the pond. What she really wants to do is to go back to where Rheng lies dead, arrow protruding from his putrid brain, and she would take his filthy carcass up to Heaven’s Rest, throw it at the feet of the Devotees, telling them that if any one of them ever comes near anyone she loves again, she will burn down the fucking sky just to make sure that not a single one of them ever takes another breath.
The ground is spinning, and she stumbles away into the brush and retches, dry heaving the scant contents of her stomach, sobs overcoming her as she attempts to swallow them as soon as the sound tries to escape.
Seyka, who had been completely immersed in the bliss of her swim, finally notices Aloy is missing, and for an infinitesimal second, trauma revisits her.
“Aloy? Aloy?!”
Aloy steps back out of the brush, dabbing the tears from her eyes.
Seyka can see it, of course, as she’d be able to see any emotion on Aloy from thousands of miles away.
Seyka walks out of the water as though she’s a fabled siren whose fins have just morphed back into legs. Aloy hands her one of the large cloths she uses as a towel, along with the comb Rost had given her, and Seyka takes them.
She only does a partial job in drying off, then she lays the cloth on the ground at the shore of the pond, sitting down on it, combing through her long hair, and patting the cloth to indicate for Aloy to sit next to her while her skin dries.
Aloy grabs an actual blanket, then sits next to Seyka, putting the blanket around her shoulders since she’s beginning to shiver.
When Seyka is done, she lays back, pulling Aloy with her, and she curls into her. Aloy wraps herself around her, smelling the fresh scent of her hair mixed with her own signature smell.
Then Seyka speaks, bringing herself up to eye level with Aloy, who still can’t bring herself to make eye contact, soaking in shame.
“Hey. Look at me. Aloy, come on.”
Aloy looks at her, immediately seeing nothing but cuts and bruises, and she begins to tremble.
“Aloy. Stop. I am okay, like I already said. And I am here with you. I’m home. You have to stop doing this to yourself, it’s not fair. There was nothing you could have done.”
Aloy still can’t respond, but she nods, squeezing tears from her eyes.
Seyka brings her face close, brushing Aloy’s cheek with her lips. Then she moves to her forehead, scattering kisses across it. She moves down to the corner of her mouth, whisper light kisses.
Something primal shoots through Aloy’s blood with an intensity that sends shockwaves through her body. She turns her head, capturing Seyka’s mouth in a kiss that ignites them both. They wrap their arms around one another..."

Fantastic Four Volume 1 Issue 4.
So this issue features the return of a Marvel Golden Age character, that being Namor the Sub-Mariner. He's a mutant, a human, an Atlantean, and the first hero to ever fly. Though he starts off his Silver Age debut as a villain. I was always curious as to why Marvel chose to do this, especially because later on he does become a hero. Though recently he's more of a neutral type of character. I've also come to notice a lot of water based heroes to this route. Coincidence maybe? Anyway on to our thrilling tale, and the return of the Sub-Mariner.
Alright so this issue is pretty fun. It takes place right after the events of the last issue with Johnny Storm leaving the Fantastic Four. Though I don't like that they blame the Thing for it I believe both are at fault here. Anyway they decide to start searching the entire city for the Human Torch with the Fantasticar. Though all of them fail except the Thing who finds him in his garage.
Johnny ends up fleeing from the Thing, due to him turning back into Ben Grimm. Honestly I feel bad for the guy, this tends to happen often to him, even later having Mister Fantastic make serums to help him turn back. Only for it to last a few measly minutes.
Well Johnny ends up staying at a very run down Men's Hotel. Where he finds a comic from the 1940s, which features, you guessed it, the Sub-Mariner. Then by sheer dumb luck guess who Johnny ends up running into at this shabby run down hotel. That's right, the Sub-Mariner. Johnny uses his flaming fingers to give him a hair cut, removing his long hair and beard. Then boom, classic Golden Age Sub-Mariner.
Anyway our other three heroes continue the search for Johnny, while he basically slips past them, well he slips past his sister. Then he takes Namor, and drops him into the Ocean. Which gives Namor back his memories and he then remembers that he is Namor the Sub-Mariner the legendary prince of the sea.
Namor then swims to what was once his undersea kingdom. Only to find it destroyed by humans radioactive weapons. I wonder if Godzilla was close by. Namor then swears his revenge and vows to destroy the surface world. Just a recap real quick that means, The Mole Man and his underground group wishes to destroy the surface, the Skulls from Space wish to conquer the Earth, and Miracle Man just wanted to have us fear him. Now Sub-Mariner and any ocean buddies also want to destroy the surface world. 616 earth cannot catch a break.
Anyway the Fantastic Four catch up with Johnny, and he tells them what all has happened. Sub-Mariner then summons a massive sea creature from the Depths known as Giganto to attack the surface world. The Fantastic Four attack only to learn that nothing can harm it from the outside, but what about inside. That's when they send in my man the Thing. They strap a nuke to his back and have him walk into Gigantos stomach to plant it and blow him up. What a Chad. Thing also battles some monsters while in Gigantos stomach so again he is without a doubt the best member of the team.
Well after Giganto dies, Namor resurfaces with his horn to summon another terrible monster in which Sue steals it from him. Though he instantly catches her, and she turns visible and Namor falls in love with her, and then she also finds him very attractive like he asks her to marry him and she genuinely thinks it over, and they first met seconds ago. You guys thought Disney was bad with it's quick love stories.
Well Namor then tries to steal Sue away beneath the Ocean, and none of the Fantastic Four can think of how to prevent this. Until Johnny uses his flying speed to create a whirlwind and transport Namor back into the Ocean without his horn. Like the horn just gets lost in the depths, and Namor "loses". Though the Fantastic Four swear if he returns he will have them to deal with.
Tumblr media
Alright so this comic is alright, I feel like I say that a lot. Namor is a really good addition to the Silver Age of comics. Just he's really depowered so that the Fantastic Four can win. Also I don't like the Sue, Namor, and Reed love triangle. It to me is probably the weaker love triangle within comics. Also this comic and the last one really make me not like Johnny Storm.
Anyway onto our character analysis for this comic.
Tumblr media
Alright my views on Mister Fantastic stay the same from the last issue. Though I don't know how he wouldn't have found Johnny with his superior intellect, but I'm also glad he didn't. He also doesn't do a whole lot this issue, again I'm not upset with this, I'm glad some other characters got to make the power play in this issue. So Reed buddy keep doing you.
Tumblr media
Sue, why, why are you like this? Like I don't dislike her, some of her scenes are funny, and would be something id definitely do if I had invisibility. Like she take a sip of a drink at a diner and everyone thinks the place is haunted these are the shenanigans I live for. Just why did you fall for Namor so quickly I don't understand.
Tumblr media
Johnny, I'm still not a big fan of you buddy. You kind of caused the problem this issue and didn't really solve it, although you did. Just I know you'll get better but honestly my opinion of Johnny has stayed in the lower regions like in the last issue.
Tumblr media
Thing, my man, the Goat. The more I get of you, the more you become my favorite member of this team. You strapped a Nuke to your back and walked into Gigantos belly. A true hero, and I'm sorry you keep changing from Ben to the Thing for basically a few seconds. I know your future is bright, keep being brilliant.
Tumblr media
Namor the Sub-Mariner, I actually really like this character. I think his introduction is very forced, but hey it's comics. Also I just like the design, the swimming speedo, the wings on his ankles, the pointy ears. All very nice, I just don't see what Sue sees in him. Take out the love triangle and he's a really good antagonist. Also you where robbed of tpk, but hey that's comics for ya.
Alright so next issue we will be introduced to one of the Fantastic Fours most notorious villains, and possibly the most notorious in all of Marvel Comics. Until next time.

Nick Fury & His Children
Fury reminisces on when his kids became his kids. Plus a cute Father’s Day moment.
—————————————————————————————————————
"You know you can't just take in random strays from the street that you feel sorry for." Coulson said out the blue one day.
Nick scoffed. “I do not take in strays.”
“With all due respect sir, you do. Hill, Romanoff, Danvers, even Rambeau because of Danvers. They’re all strays you’ve taken in.” Phil said matter of factly.
Fury sighed. He knew Coulson was right. “Well, if no one else is going to do it..." Fury trailed off. In his defense, he wasn’t trying to take them in, they just sort of became attached to him and he didn’t mind. It all started in 1995.
————————————————————————
Carol Danvers landing on Earth was an experience Nick Fury will never forget. Watching an alien autopsy, getting his eye scratched out by a flerken, and going to space we’re just part of the excitement of that experience. However, the most memorable part was meeting Carol herself.
Carol was bold and brave, something Fury admired about her. She was compassionate, something he saw when she was reunited with Maria and Monica. (He definitely thinks her and Maria have something going on, but he wouldn’t pry…at least not yet.)
Seeing her fly off to help a universe full of people who needed help, filled him with a sense of pride. The impact she left on him led him to name his initiative after her. Something to remember her by.
A few months after Carol’s departure, Maria Rambeau contacted him about creating an agency to monitor extra terrestrial and extra dimensional threats, he helped. Of course it was from the shadows (he can’t have many people knowing his connection to Rambeau, it wouldn’t be safe). She later named the agency Sentient Weapon Observation and Response Division, or SWORD for short. He would give her the names of a few people he trusted, and gave her advice here and there but she had the whole running a super secret government agency thing down and well he was proud of her too.
It was 2000 when he saw both of them together again. She had come down to visit the Rambeaus and Maria called him telling him Carol wanted to see him. So he made the trip down to Loiusiana, Goose in tow. Carol made sure to tell him about all her adventures and he tells her he’s proud of her, but of course it’s when they’re alone, can’t have Maria or Monica seeing him this soft.
The smile he gets from her warms his heart though.
Then he and Monica subtly (it’s definitely not subtle at all) hints that she should tell Maria how it feels because watching the pine over each other is “sadder than Mufasa’s death in the Lion King” - Monica and he agrees.
Fury spends a few more days with the Rambeau-Danvers before he has to get back to SHIELD, but before he leaves he catches Carol kissing Maria and smiles to himself. Finally , he thinks, I thought it would take the end of the world for them to confess their feelings.
The next time he sees Carol is 2007, when he introduces her to Maria Hill.
————————————————————————
Now Fury didn’t go out of his way to pick agents for SHIELD, but Maria Hill was different. He picked her up from the Marines when she was honorably discharged at 22 and by the age of 24, she was one of his best agents, quickly rising through ranks. Fury only knew what she put in the files, and what his background check told him, but that didn't tell much about her home life, only her career in the Marines. When she became leader of strike team Beta, she was described by her peers as a hard ass and an ice queen who got the job done and kept them safe. However, Fury knew there was much more to Maria than what she let on. One night, he found her distraught in a boiler room, and realized he had another stray.
He didn’t say anything when he saw her, just hugged her till she stopped crying. She immediately tried to compose herself to her stoic soldier persona and apologize out of embarrassment but he stopped her.
“This isn’t the first time I’ve had to console someone in a dark room at 4am.” He’d told her. She looked at him confused, and raised an eyebrow waiting for him to elaborate.
He sighed before speaking. “This doesn’t leave this room but I have a…well I guess she's basically my kid, Carol. She’s away right now, but when she visits sometimes she gets nightmares and I find her in a similar state to you. Anyway, I’ve learned a thing or two about helping crying people in the middle of the night. You don’t have to tell me why you were upset, but you do need to talk with someone.” Maria nodded, digesting the information.
“My father died. He was a homophobic son of a bitch who hated me from the day I was born because my mother died during childbirth. I hated him, and what he put me through but the fact that he got to die without giving me any apology, hurts. He was also the last connection to my mother, he was never a father to me, but he was all I had of her.”
“For what it’s worth, Hill, I never would’ve known you came from a home life like that, you’re controlled, caring, and calm. I’m proud of you and the agent you’re becoming. You’re gonna be running this place one day.
That night, Nick vowed to make sure he’d never find Maria like that again. So he mentored her and when she was 25, Maria was promoted to Deputy Director and she finally met Carol. Something Nick slightly regrets because Carol told him the story of how he lost his eye and now Maria can’t look at him without smirking.
A year later, Maria was overseeing a mission that Clint Barton, codename Hawkeye was on, and he brought back Fury’s final stray, Natalia Romanova, codename Black Widow.
————————————————————————
When Fury sent Barton to kill the Black Widow, he expected 1 of 3 outcomes: Widow kills Barton, she severely injures him (she’s an assassin after all and Barton’s hand to hand is questionable) or he comes back with confirmation that she’s dead. He didn’t expect him to actually bring her back.
Seeing her in person was a little startling. He couldn’t believe a woman this small took out some of his best agents. While he was berating Barton for being back a deadly KGB assassin, he had Maria interrogate and assess her.
(“She’s defensive, guarded but she also seems defeated. She didn’t say much but she did say she was from The Red Room. I asked her to elaborate about her time there, but she refused. Wouldn’t say anything else until she knows what’s going to happen to her.)
After Barton plead her case, he ultimately decided she should stay at SHIELD, for her own protection and because her skills proved she could be useful.
Hearing all the things she endured during her time at the Red Room was one thing, but seeing her relive it during her deprogramming was something he would never want anyone to experience. Sometimes he could still hear the screams she let out, they were loud enough to be heard from the hallway. That day, he made a promise to himself she’d never have to go through anything like that again while under his protection.
A few months after her deprogramming, he found her asleep on the couch in his office. He would have called Clint or Maria to get her but they were on missions. A thought did occur to him though, a highly trained assassin who should have woken up when he entered the office, stayed asleep. She was comfortable with him. When he heard about what the General made her endure, he wasn’t sure if she would ever trust him or feel safe, which was something he’d hoped for (because he does try and make SHIELD as safe as possible for his agents) but didn’t expect to come so early. He did the only logical thing, covered her with a blanket and started doing his paperwork.
When she woke up a few hours later, it was because Maria burst into his office looking for her. Natasha jumped up, embarrassed (she tried to hide it but he could tell). He told Maria to wait outside his office and asked Natasha to sit in one of the chairs.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean-" she started. She looked scared, as if she did something wrong.
"Do you feel safe here?" he'd interrupted.
"Huh?" she asked confused.
"Do you feel safe in my office? Around me? Is that why you fell asleep in here?" he clarified.
"Yes," she said in a small voice.
"Okay." he replied.
"What do you mean 'okay'? Am I not in trouble?"
"No, Natasha, you aren't in trouble. I'm not going to punish or reprimand you for finding a safe place, be it the nest or my office. Besides, you aren't the only one who deems this a safe space. I don't know if they told you, but Maria and Clint sometimes sleep here, that's why I keep a blanket here. I try to make SHIELD safe for all of you, and if you feel safe here, then that's okay." he explained. He watched as she absorbed the information she was just given.
She just nodded. "Maria's probably walking a hole into the ground pacing out there, so you're dismissed." she got up from her chair and left. He faintly hear "Hi Ria", before the door completely shut.
Guess I have another one. He thought to himself.
————————————————————————l
After the fall of SHIELD in 2014, he gave the location to Maria R. and Natasha, told them to come visit him and Maria, who was staying with him, when they had time. However, when all his children did come to visit, he had been in the house alone. He woke up to the sound of whispers and clanking and grabbed the gun he kept under his pillow. He looked at the alarm clock next to his bed. 3:48 am, it read. I'm supposed to be dead and I can't even sleep in peace. he rolled his eyes at the thought. He slowly crept into the hallway, safety off the gun and ready to shoot the intruders if needed.
"Be quiet! You're gonna wake him up!" he heard a familiar voice say from the kitchen.
"Tell that to Carol and those clunky space boots, I'm surprised he didn't hear us land." Natasha's voice became clear as he walked closer to the kitchen.
"Both of you shut up, you're acting like children." he heard Hill's annoyed voice next. "If I knew you two were gonna be acting like this, I would've left you at the tower!" she complained further.
"Hey!" Carol and Natasha whined in unison.
Nick decided to stop peaking around the corner and make his presence known. "What the hell are all of you doing here? Do you know what time it is?"
All three of them jumped and turned to look at him, sheepish grins on all their faces. "This was supposed to be a surprise but those two don't know how to be quiet." Maria said
"Surprise for what?"
"Well, it's Father's Day and you've basically been a father to all of us, so we decided to surprise you today." Natasha explained.
And no matter how hard he tried to fight it, he couldn't stop the megawatt smile that took over his face.
"Oh my god he's smiling and its an actual smile; not that happy smirk he does." Natasha marveled astonished.
"Quick someone take a picture!" Carol urged.
"On it!" Maria quickly snapped a picture.
He chuckled at their antics. "While I do appreciate the surprise, next time can you do it at a decent time?"
"But, you wake up at 5:45 every morning, it was now or never." Nat shrugged.
"Maria sends her love, and a present from her and Monica." Carol told him.
He just shook his head and gave them all hugs. He watched as they excitedly shoved gifts in his face that they wanted to get opened first.
————————————————————————
"Ok, so maybe I do take in strays but I wouldn't trade them for the world." he admitted to Phil.
"Aw that's sweet. You're going soft on me boss?" Coulson teased.
"Leave before I give you paperwork or something." Fury grumbled.
Coulson just laughed before walking away, probably going to see his own strays.

Thinkin bout Dark Samus
I’m having Thoughts about Dark Samus so now you all have to hear them.
Specifically, I’m having thoughts about revising old fics and/or potential interactions between Dark Samus and Adam because of course I am. Headcanons ahoy under the cut. (This one got inordinately long, like four pages long, so brace yourselves.)
We don’t know what was going on in the GF Capitol during the Phazon Crisis. I’ve taken some guesses at it over the course of Electrochromic, but we don’t have any canon material. I imagine things were tense, obviously, knowing that the Space Pirates essentially had planet-killing weapons at their disposal.
I’ve toyed with concepts of what Adam might have been up to during this time (some of which may make it into EC/EC-adjacent pieces later), but one thing I’ve pondered over but never really been able to put into a fic is the possibility of Adam encountering some facet of Dark Samus.
I have a headcanon that any creature exposed to phazon radiation becomes connected to the “collective”/hivemind of Phaaze in some way. Only badly corrupted creatures become a part of the hivemind, but something as simple as a radiation burn can loosely connect a creature to other creatures who have been exposed to phazon. There have been no officially documented cases of “phazon sickness” among PED Marines, but I imagine exposure to the substance has caused a handful of unusual anecdotal symptoms. Afflicted troopers often feel as if they are being followed or watched. One extreme – and concerning, given the distance from the front lines – case involved a test trooper on Daiban hallucinating the presence of “a woman in black” observing his test along with the science team.
The Dark Hunter is curious and capricious. She likes to observe, but rarely appear or interact. She uses the network of both soldiers and victims the Pirate campaign accumulates to extend the reach of her perception. One version of the interaction with Adam I’ve pondered is him coming to be injured or otherwise exposed in a lab test (he’d be fine, of course, just a minor injury) and attracting the attention of the Dark Hunter. In some versions it’s just a mounting paranoia on Adam’s part – he knows something is present, observing or following him, there’s an unfamiliar figure in crowds and around corners. His peers chalk it up to stress; everyone is overworked because of the crisis, he’s shaken up from his injury and that trauma is affecting him, he just needs a break, to talk to someone. And they’re not wrong, and for a brief time Adam is convinced what he’s experiencing is just internal.
But Dark Samus (I want to give her a different name, I can’t imagine she would use this one for herself) doesn’t like to be ignored. Maybe her approach becomes more direct, maybe she starts to pick at the thoughts and memories of her new favourite thing to watch, push phrases into his mind, maybe she creates a more visible manifestation, even takes on a human-like form and speaks to him directly. I couldn’t decide.
But I want to know what these two would talk about, or clash about. Does Adam know what she is? Does she look like Samus, or can he make the connection? How does she feel about him? He’s interesting, certainly; a high-ranking officer in her enemy’s army, well-connected and highly capable and intelligent. Could she use him as a source of information, or is he merely a curiosity, a source of entertainment?
There’s another version of this scenario that I’ve been mulling over recently. Sort of a combination of a pair of fics I recently retired from DA. Part of me wants to rewrite them because their style is old and dated, and I feel like I could do a better job of them now with more material (both hc and canon) and experience to work from. I want to dig into Dark Samus on a personal level, which I tried to do a bit in the past, but I literally wrote that fic in my teens, so there wasn’t much emotional maturity or intrigue in it. Being just older and having existed more, I think I have more I can use a version of that fic to say (and maybe finish it this time).
And part of that is because I’ve been thinking about this interaction/scenario, and considering Dark Samus’s motivations and self more. What sort of instincts does a chimera like her have? What does a being with emergent sentience think like, what are her priorities and wants? This is where the sort of crossover and jamming Adam into the situation comes in.
His involvement begins when Samus is the last of the Hunters to lose control of themselves and turn against the GF (drawn from the other retired fic). Having some experience working with her, Adam is brought in to help/consult on what the heck to do with/about her. Through a series of contrivances where he comes into direct contact with Dark Samus, he negotiates a hostage trade – himself for Samus’s autonomy back – and is baffled when the Dark Hunter accepts.
Adam doesn’t see this as being terribly hazardous to him personally. Between his backup and training (despite not being psionic-sensitive, he’s been trained to identify and fend off psionic intrusion. Thanks Project Icarus.) he’s confident he’s both equipped to handle this, and disposable if absolutely necessary. His initial assumption is that the Dark Hunter sees him as a source of information more valuable than having one extra Hunter on hand, so it’s a fair trade. But over the course of his interactions with her he comes to realize that isn’t really the case. She doesn’t grill him for information or even really treat him as a prisoner – for the most part he’s stuck in her private quarters but it’s relatively comfortable otherwise. She treats him like a guest... almost like a companion.
The truth of it is that she finds him fascinating, not for what he knows but for who he is, how he functions. They’re not so different, she thinks.
I’ve been considering Dark Samus’s relationship to Phaaze. Phaaze isn’t evil, it can’t be, it’s just a superorganism that is driven to spread and reproduce, like any living thing. Dark Samus doesn’t take control of Phaaze so much as find a way to facilitate what it’s already meant to do, attaching the stolen Aurora Unit just gives Phaaze a nudge towards self-awareness and a direct interface with her. It can launch leviathans at targets instead of just at random, but it’s still very much the same self-perpetuating collective it always was. And of the two of them, Phaaze is the one in charge. Dark Samus helps it, guides it, but does not control it. And therein lies her perceived similarity to Adam. They’re both “middle management” – high up enough to lead, to be known and looked up to, even idolized by their subordinates, but both still obligated to the whims of a larger organization. In her case, the Phaaze collective, in his, the Galactic Federation as a whole.
What Dark Samus is interested in is how he performs and copes with his role. Adam comes to notice that when she isn’t out doing Evil Leader Stuff, Dark Samus just... sleeps. Or does nothing. She spends a lot of time resting, but it’s not because her position is all that strenuous. As they talk he comes to realize she sleeps so often because she’s bored. She doesn’t have any conception of what to do with herself when she’s not active. The only cultures she’s been exposed to are the Ing and Space Pirates, neither of which have any concept of “leisure activities” or “hobbies.” Pirates seldom make art, they don’t have a music culture, their sapient drive to create has been bred out of them in favour of aggressive or servile qualities. They’re just a step above a hivemind themselves, and when they’re not working, they’re sleeping. So Dark Samus thinks this is normal, even though she knows, deep down in the human parts of herself, that something about it is wrong.
She asks Adam what he does when he’s not working, she finds it fascinating, almost funny, that he’s in a similar position. He doesn’t have a very healthy work-life balance, not a lot of time for his hobbies because work wears him out, not a lot of friends because he tends to keep to himself. In a way, Dark Samus finds the minimal difference ideal. It would have hard for her to relate to someone more social, more creative, because the gap would simply be too wide. But Adam’s tentative step up from her utter inaction – and the depression it causes her slightly-too-human psyche – is a welcome education.
It’s such a novel experience the first time he plays music for her, dredging up a wonky keyboard patch to install on the console in her private cabin. (Yes this is a persistent headcanon.) He’s not even sure at first if she can parse music as something enjoyable or if it would just be noise for her. She tries to poke into his mind while he plays but he pushes her away; knowing what he’s feeling would be cheating, he wants her to listen and feel for herself. It’s rough, whatever he plays is all from memory and it’s not all there, but it’s good enough. When he asks her what she thought, she doesn’t respond much. She’s not sure, herself. It was so utterly alien to her. She asks him to play it again, and this time, he lets her sift through his thoughts while he does.
And this is where she finds something that truly captures her attention. The associated memories that surface when Adam plays – jamming with Ian, the sheer joy of making music with and for someone, the grief of losing him, of playing alone now that he can finally handle doing so. She realizes she’s never felt these feelings before. Joy and grief. Not alone, and never together. But she understands she could have, should have at times. But they’re new. She’s only ever felt self-satisfied: stealing from Pirates, freeing their metroids, taking over their systems, making them her own. There was never joy in that. She’s only ever felt angry: fighting and destroying, avenging her lesser kin, and herself, upon the Pirates or her rival-original. But there was no grief along with that. And now she knows there should have been. She should have taken pride and joy in her abilities, her wide-ranging explorations across impossible land- and space-scapes. She should have grieved the abuse and deaths of her brood-kin at the hands of the Pirates, perhaps even grieved her own deaths and transitions, the trauma she’s suffered.
There’s been a piece missing this whole time, and she hates it now that she knows what it is. Because it was a piece of that part of herself she most despises, that finnicky, sensitive human part. But it’s at the forefront, she owes her sense of self and her ambition to it, to forsake it would be going back to being just Metroid Prime; intelligent, but still just an animal a bit too clever for its own good. She comes to realize that some – not all, but a large some – of the discontent she feels is because that human part of her wants. It wants to be occupied, maybe even to create, it wants to socialize, maybe it wants friends, family – was that why it felt like such a good idea to bring metroids to Phaaze, did she hope to create other creatures like herself? That part of her likes this new human guest, too. Is it just because he’s male? Or because he seems so unafraid of her, treating her like an equal, letting her learn from him and holding so little back?
But... can she confide these thoughts in her new guest? Can she dare to consider him a “friend” in some capacity? Has he already figured her out? Is there a way to learn more without exposing too much vulnerability? Is there a way to do more without becoming distracted? She has her war to wage, Pirate Generals to appease with new targets and strategies. She can’t afford to go soft on them now. Not that her position is as perilous with them as it started out, they’re all well and loyal, but she can’t afford to lose ground to the Federation by diverting her attention.
Adam, on the other hand, does come to realize he’s exposed a soft spot here. But it comes with its own risks and conflicts. The idea of dissuading, or even flipping the Dark Hunter from her cause is incredibly tempting. But also... this is something he’s learned in confidence from an incredibly dangerous creature. She’s kept her abilities toned down around him to keep him safe, but her mere presence could be lethal to him, and making a move like that too obvious would not only risk his safety, but risk the Dark Hunter doubling down on her tour of destruction out of anger and spite.
Therein lies the appeal and the trouble I find in this situation. I want to explore this conflicted nature I believe exists in Dark Samus, and I’d like a human character to help facilitate that (or if I revive my DS-centric fic, some slightly more introspective Pirate characters). But I don’t like the idea of it being framed like someone, esp. a male character, “saving” her. At the same time, it seems extra tragic after all that introspection to have her decide that no, she doesn’t want to know that side of herself, and commit to burning it all down instead – destroying everything in her path so there’s nothing to tempt her to “go soft” again, so she can be lonely at the top and try to convince herself it’s fine.
But I crave that angst and introspective interaction, you know? Just like with Adam and Raven Beak, I think there’s some interesting parallels and contrasts that can be teased out of these characters interacting. Tbh, I just tend to gravitate to Adam bc he’s muh favourite, which means I have to jam difficult emotions into him whenever I’m not (and sometimes even when I am) putting him in mortal peril. Anyway thanks for reading, this one got way too long but I had to get it out of my head.

"On Basilisk Station" --A Review
Last year, I plunged headlong into the delights of the Vorkosigan Saga (I'm still going to be working on that one this year) but I wanted to add a series that's been lurking on the bookshelves of my parents for years now that I've never gotten around too- and that's the Honor Harrington series by David Weber.
(My Dad has a ton of Eric Flint books, so I've read a lot of the 1632 books-- though I'm way behind on those as well, as there seem to be more and more every year. But, a long-time collaborator of Flint's in multiple universes? David Weber.)
One thing that I found surprising right off the bat is that a brief dive into David Weber's wiki page reveals that he hasn't (at least from what I can find) ever been in the Navy. That both surprised me and impressed me. Granted, we're talking about space navies with the Honorverse, but the level of detail about ships, command structure and philosophy, and basic procedures seems like it should come from someone who's experienced it firsthand, but I guess not. That Weber lists C.S Forester and Patrick O'Brian, as influences on his writing is unsurprising and honestly, makes me want to put both authors on a future TBR list because what Weber has crafted with On Basilisk Station is the beginning of an immersive and well-crafted universe that I found to be compulsively readable and I know after one volume, I'm going to get through every one of these I can get my hands on.
On Basilisk Station introduces us to Commander Honor Harrington, newly graduated from the Royal Manticoran Navy's advanced tactical course and awarded her first commander, the light cruiser HMS Fearless that's undergoing a major weapons refit. Harrington discovers, much to her displeasure that most of her normal weapons have been stripped out and replaced by an experimental 'grav lance' commissioned by Admiral Sonja Hemphill.
Unhappy, but always ready to do her duty and expecting her new crew to do the same, Harrington and the Fearless use the grav lance to great effect in one round of war games, but taste crushing defeat after crushing defeat in the subsequent rounds as the grav lance, while devastatingly effective at close range is less effective once people know what to look for.
Admiral Hemphill, embarrassed by the failure of her experiment has the HMS Fearless assigned to picket duty on distant Basilisk Station, a posting generally regarded by the fleet as where the screw-ups and embarrassments get sent so they're out of the way. There, Harrington meets an old nemesis- Captain Lord Pavel Young, a spoiled son of a nobleman, whose career has been stuck in neutral due to an attempt to rape Honor at the Academy several years earlier. He is using her arrival as a ploy to ruin Honor's career and takes his heavy cruiser Warlock back to Manticore for some 'emergency refits' leaving Honor and her light cruiser as the only military presence in the system.
Harrington (unsurprisingly) sees this as a challenge and not a setback and to the surprise of local officials on Basilisk Station and the planet Medusa itself actually starts doing her job and finds out all kinds of interesting things. She cracks down on smuggling, and finds a drug manufacturing ring planetside that's selling hallucinogenic drugs to the sentient species of the planet inciting them to furious violence and whoever is behind that is arming them as well.
What the Fearless finds begins to cause a political stir back home on Manticore as well- and forces who want to discredit an isolationist faction who wants to withdraw from Basilisk Station work to delay the higher-ranked Lord Captain Young's return to the system to let Honor and the Fearless continue her work.
Eventually, they find out whose behind it all: the People's Republic of Haven, intent on gaining a strategic foothold in the system to drive Manticore out attempting a coup de main. Honor's complement of marines handles the native uprising planetside, while the Fearless runs down the Sirius, a Havenite Q-ship disguised as a freighter, who is running to signal the rest of their forces to move in. Harrington sends a message to Manticore advising them that the invasion is imminent and moves to engage.
The subsequent battle is costly to the Fearless in terms of damage to their ship and crew, but Honor manages to get the Sirius within range of their grav lance and uses it to destroy the Sirius.
Honor returns home to a hero's welcome, and a promotion, but unfortunately, the HMS Fearless is too damaged to salvage, but a newly constructed heavy-cruiser, christened as the new HMS Fearless is her new command.
Overall: When can one achieve mastery of any given subject? I don't know if a debut novel is enough to declare Weber a master of military science fiction, but for sure, On Basilisk Station confirms that Weber knows what he's doing and is pretty damn good at it to boot. I like that we don't get lost in world-building-- Weber drops us into the political situation from the word go and builds out as necessary from there. We don't get a sprawling history of humanity's diaspora out to the stars or anything like that- we're in the story and off and running.
I also like that Honor is presented as a character who is not morally flexible (at least so far in the series.) When given orders, she follows them to the letter and expects her crew to do otherwise. She recognizes the importance of when to push and when not to get the best out of her people and while her Executive Officer Commander McKeon struggles with her arrival and his own feelings about it, eventually, she wins him over as well. As a character, she leaps off the page.
My Grade: **** out of ****, a strong debut for this series. Send me volume two and sign me up for the next posting, because I'm all in on Honor Harrington.

Blackpink -> {Pirate AU} -> You try to capture them
Requested: No
Group: Blackpink
Genre: Fluff
A/N: So I don’t really know a lot about marines, pirates and ship etc, so I am kind of going off from anime that I watch lol. Let me know what you think of this AU! Marine reader
Jisoo
Tumblr media
It was both a blessing and a curse to being a wanted pirate. While she did receive great respect and fear from other pirate crews, along with great prestige thanks to her actions, she also happened to always being under the marines radar. Be it be at land or at sea, the marines always somehow managed to find her, and she found it most tiresome to escape and to flee with all of her crew and supplies in tact.
“Stop right there Jisoo Kim!”
Jisoo groaned in disgruntlement before she turned around at the entrance of the tavern she and her crew were resting to see you standing in the middle of the doorway, some of you fellow marines entering the tavern after you with their weapons drawn. Jisoo took a sip of her cider before slamming it down on the counter and fixing you with a glare.
“Just what must we do to just have some peace and quiet?” She asked rhetorically, the own tavern silencing from your calling to her, as well as both sides being ready for a fight, her men looking at her for direction. You scoffed and crossed your arms while glaring at her, trying to stand as tall as you could to appear more intimidating.
“As of here and now, you are under arrest. Surrender now and we will spare your and your crews lives.”
Jisoo cocked her head at you, taking you in before humming, the corner of her lip lifting as she raised an eyebrow. That was by far the politest way someone had dealt with her and her crew so far, and judging from your young face, she could only guess that you were a newly appointed captain and did not realize just how rough your lot liked to get, especially since she has been a pain in the marine’s side for a while. And looking at your subordinates, they also looked fresh off the boat, so she was dealing with a group of puppies. She finally smirked before locking eyes with you.
“While you do make a kind proposal puppy, I don’t think I am up to it. Closed spaces have never suited me, nor bars.”
She smiled as she noticed you become quite flustered at her nickname, making her crew chuckle before she stood up from her stool and grab her cider again to take another sip. She turned her head back to you and grinned before suddenly tossing the contents of her cider onto the floor, her first mate whipping out his gun with practiced ease and aiming it at the floor. She winked at you.
“Have fun puppy.”
“Wha-”
You were interrupted when Jisoo’s first mate then fired his gun at the spilled contents, the alcohol catching fire immediately and erupting the tavern floor in flames much to the panic of everyone, you and your crew most particularly. Jisoo and her crew immediately used the fire to their advantage, quickly escaping out the back of the tavern, but Jisoo did take the quick chance to glance back at you as you desperately tried to put out the flames with the rest of your crew. She smiled.
Such a cute puppy, she wonders just what kind of dog you are going to become and just how you planned to try save yourself from this failed attempt. Perhaps she will see you next time, she would quite like to see how you are on a ship.
Jennie
Tumblr media
“You know captain, you could always just take me to dinner instead of chasing me about all of the time.”
The glare which you gave to Jennie was scathing, but she just smiled serenely at you while she balanced herself on the mast, you and her at the top while your and her crews battled on the ship bellow. You readied your sword, pointing it threateningly at her with a scowl.
“Do not think I follow you because I want to Kim, it is my job to lock up pirate scum with you.” Jennie let out a mock gasp before covering her heart with her hand, looking at you with hurt eyes.
“That is no way to speak to a lady Y/N, I thought the marines taught you things like manners and respect.” You growled as you took a threatening step forward, trying to balance yourself as the harsh winds of the sea made it difficult for you to balance.
“Only to those that matter to me.” You growled, making Jennie pout at you before cocking her head.
“Don’t I matter to you?” You fixed her with a glare.
“Only to lock you up and send you to the gallows.”
“Now that is just being mean.”
Jennie sighed before glancing down at below deck, watching as her crew battled with your men while they tried to protect the ship. While she was surprised that you had managed to catch up to her so soon, she was rather delighted in a twisted way and there was nothing better for her than to rile you up. And considering she had gotten you to chase her up to the sail masts in your attempt to catch her, she counted that as a win. And it was even sweeter for her as she knew you were struggling to keep your balance on the mast, not used to it like she was due to her love of being in high places.
The sounds of swords were prominent and Jennie watched as her crew was holding her own, only to suddenly noticed movement in the corner of her eye and she reacted fast enough to parry your sword with her own, looking at you with disapproval as you tried to force your entire weight down on her with your sword, only for Jennie to handle herself well.
“Now that was just rude.”
“You weren’t paying attention, I am using that to my advantage.”
“If you wanted my attention Y/N, then you could have just said so.” Jennie suddenly pushed you away from her with her sword, smirking as she watched you fumble with your foot to prevent yourself from falling of the mast beam, gulping as you glanced down and saw how dangerous it was for you if you lost your footing. “I am more than happy to take you under under my wing.”
You growled at her before pointing your sword at her again, making Jennie to point her own sword at you in anticipation for a fight.
“Over my dead body.” Jennie smirked.
“That can be arranged.”
You eventually succumbed to your anger and made a dive for her, making Jennie smile as she easily parried your sword again as you both began to enter a duel along with the others.
Chaeyoung
Tumblr media
Normally a pirate would want avoid a marine ship at all costs, usually because they did not want to give the opposing side a chance to capture them, as well to prevent their ship or crew to me damaged or injured in any shape or form from the marine’s force.
However Chaeyoung was not like most pirates. While others would flee from the sighting of a marine ship, Chaeyoung just gave orders to her crew to ready themselves, excitement filling her body as she knew who exactly was on board of that marine ship, recognizing the sails easily, as well as the paint work on the ship which only belonged to her favorite marine. Well, favorite marine in her case.
It was always a game that you and Chaeyoung played, never firing cannons at each other despite it probably being the best way to take down a pirate ship. However you did not want to do that. You wanted to capture Chaeyoung, her crew, and her ship all in one piece, hence why you never gave the orders to your crew to fire at the ship. Instead you waited until your ship was beside Chaeyoung’s before the two of you would leap at each other in action, her crew hopping onto your ship while yours would leap onto hers, swords clashing with each in swashbuckling battles. And of course, the two of you only had eyes for each other.
“Miss me love?” Chaeyoung called out from the ship wheel, her sword nestled in her hand while she smiled wildly at you, your own lips fixed in a scowl as you brandished your own sword as you pointed at her from your position on your ship.
“You’re mine this time Park.” Chaeyoung cooed and then winked at you, seductive smile in place.
“I’ve always been yours L/N, why else do you think I let you follow me around without complaint all the time?”
Her flirting always seems to get on your nerves, as well as fluster you, so you instead decided to distract yourself by dodging pass the battles on your ship and leaping over her and ran to meet her with your sword raised, slashing at her only for her to dodge it very easily.
“Quit messing with me!” You growled, slashing at her again which Chaeyoung parried this time. She smiled at you before parrying your sword away from her.
“Oh but I just love seeing you get all red with my jests. The colours suits you very well.”
“Cut it out!” You angrily slashed at her again, this time with red cheeks which were easily noticed by Chaeyoung as she winked at you and entertained a few more blows from your before twirling out the way and glancing at your ship to see how her crew was faring.
“You know love, all of us know each other so well, why don’t we just put an end to this and have drinks instead?”
“Not a chance in hell!” Chaeyoung turned to you and pouted.
“Are you really going to make me work for you? You’re already mine, why are you playing so hard to get?”
“Playing hard to-” You blushed brightly , even more than before at Chaeyoung’s expressed interest, making her smile widely before she readied herself again, her eyes glinting excitedly.
“Its a good thing I like a challenge love, so you are just perfect for me.”
She lunged and you barely had time to parry, making Chaeyoung laugh as she was nearly besting you all because of her honeyed words and feminine wiles. Though she wasn’t lying when she said you looked get in red, the colour suited your cheeks beautifully.
Lisa
Tumblr media
The nice thing about being a pirate is that Lisa literally had no rules to limit her, while she did have her own moral code, there was nothing like a pirate rule book to control her actions. So while you were specifically trained to fight like a marine and soldier, Lisa had a mixture of everything and knew how to take advantage of her surroundings, hence why she was driving you insane with her quick footing and agility as she leapt from table to table in the kitchen while you tried to catch her.
“Just...hold...still!”
Lisa just giggled as she dodged a low sword swipe at you before she leapt onto the kitchen counter of the noble house she and her crew had infiltrated, her boot sending a bowl of flour which was just sitting there in your direction and covering you head to toe in the stuff, making you sputter as you practically resembled a ghost. Lisa couldn’t stop the burst of laughter that escaped her.
“Holy shit, totally unintentional but...” Lisa just couldn’t help but laugh, causing you to glare at her before making a sloppy slice at her with her sword, only for her to jump over it and suddenly pressing pushing you with her foot, kicking you into the table where you unceremoniously landed into the plates and bowls which were on the table. Lisa jumped off the counter and smirked as she pointed her sword at you, the tip pressed against your throat, making you freeze. “Oh if your marine friends could see you now.”
You were completely at her mercy and you had no idea what was running through Lisa’s head as she grinned mischievously at you. Lisa was quite well known for her recklessness, it proven to you already due to Lisa and her crew infiltrating a noble’s party in order to try get away with some loot.
Reckless, crazy, and downright unbelievable. And yet that always seemed best to describe Lisa Manoban, one of the best known rookie pirates of the seven seas who was only doing crazier things every single time she set her foot on land. She was unpredictable and wild, completely out of this world that no one knew just what she was ever going to do next. Just like you had no idea what she was going to do now, end your life or spare you, you just didn’t know what was going through her mind.
...
..
.
You suddenly heard Lisa chuckle and then felt the tip of the sword remove itself from your throat, the blade instead moving past your head to pierce into a roll, which did not get crushed from your fall, and was brought back to Lisa as she plucked it off her sword and took a bite from it, letting out a pleased hum. She grinned at you when she noticed your staring.
“While it has been fun love, I’ve gotta get going. Places to be, things to steal, you understand right?” She winked at you before skipping away, turning around at the door to wave at your stunned figure. “See you next time cutie!”
And then she was gone.

7 Snippets 7 People Tag
Thanks for tagging me, @novel-emma! :D
Here are seven snippets from The Unfortunate Moth:
1.
"It's dreadful!" Mr. Colman cried. He wasn't quite wringing his hands and tearing his hair, but he wasn't far off. "How can they have arrested her? Anyone can see she can't possibly have done it!"
Yo-han studied Mr. Colman carefully. Both times he'd seen him before he had gotten the impression of falseness, an impression that had been strengthened when he learnt the man was an actor. But if he was acting now he was giving the performance of a lifetime.
2.
Cabin 178 was almost depressingly devoid of anything to show its occupant's personality. Mrs. Patton-Langdale had a framed photograph and her own alarm clock. Miss Patton had her murder mysteries. Yo-han himself had his calligraphy set and photo album. But Máté Király had his suitcase and nothing else. No photographs, no letters, no books, no trinkets of sentimental value, not even any sign of a hobby. Yo-han found himself wondering how the man passed the time.
Király gestured Yo-han to the only chair in the room. He sat on the bed himself and took a cigarette case out of his pocket, then changed his mind and put it away. Whether that was because he thought it would be rude to smoke in such a confined space, or simply didn't want to give away the slightest detail about himself, was up for debate.
3.
Yo-han had never investigated a case where everyone was so convinced the main suspect was innocent. It was almost enough to make him suspect Miss Patton in spite of himself.
4.
Yo-han's theory was becoming a near-certainty. To prove it he produced the letter. "This was in your employer's cabin. Did she often read your letters?"
As an answer Király gave Yo-han a lesson in the sort of Hungarian not generally used in polite society.
5.
"Speaking of Miss Patton, she assured me this letter has nothing to do with the case. But it is a mystery, and I dislike more than one mystery at a time. Makes a case so much more complicated than it needs to be. Perhaps you can explain." Yo-han's tone made it clear this wasn't a suggestion.
6.
Yo-han had never subscribed to the idea that tastes in literature were an accurate reflection of innocence or guilt. When he had caught a serial rapist last year, the man's bookshelf had been full of reference books on marine botany and the lives of Catholic saints. On the other hand his landlady during his stay in Berlin had been a sweet little old lady who wouldn't hurt a fly and loved gruesome horror novels.
7.
One thing was absolutely certain. The killer's cabin was on the same corridor as the victim's. It simply wasn't practical to carry a saw and a gun for any distance. Plus the proximity would make it easier to know when Mrs. Patton-Langdale was alone. All he had to do was search the cabins — though by now the killer would certainly have disposed of the murder weapon — and question everyone in them. He would pay special attention to the passengers who had quarrelled with the victim two or more days before the murder. It had been planned for at least that long; the hole in the wall showed this wasn't a spur-of-the-moment explosion of temper.
Tagging @northernrosewritings, @words-after-midnight, @oh-no-another-idea, @emelkae, @boldnightmarishreverbs, @akindofmagictoo, and anyone else who wants to do this! :D

Game Idea
Game that’s a love letter to some other games. Namely, Resident Evil, Call Of Duty, Halo and Doom, in that order.
Basic plot: You have one of those bioweapon R&D’s that makes living weapons and super soldiers, ala Umbrella Corp with a little bit of Spartan Project. They’re falling behind their rivals and risk losing funding, so they start dabbling in diabolism in order to give their projects a little extra spice, ala UAC. Things go predictably wrong in one of their secret blacksite labs underneath a densely populated city when whole city blocks collapse into sinkholes / Hellmouths and the genetically augmented legions of Hell start pouring out. Basic stuff.
The game is split between four campaign with four main characters, each one with their own story and playstyle with limited interactions between them.
Rose is a civilian, one of many who ends up caught in this horror shitshow. She ends up falling into one of the sinkholes and trapped in the demon infested depths of the laboratories. She has to scavenge for supplies while looking for a way out. She can barely shoot a gun, has no first aid training, so every item she grabs is only half as effective as it should be. A double-barrel is probably the biggest thing she finds and firing it knocks her on her ass. Luckily, she only attracts the attention of the most basic bio-demons but such creatures are major threats to her.
Private Caldor is a marine stationed at a nearby military base, currently on leave or however that works in the marines for being an insubordinate shit. When shit goes down, everybody is called in, but he’s not in a position to arrive on time and finds out he might be the last soldier left by this point. Disobeying his commanding officer’s last order to get the fuck out of their, he instead scours the city for survivors to save as many as he can, finding out that his higher up knew about the ticking time bomb under everyone’s feet. He actually runs into Rose, either in the middle of her campaign, thereby failing to get her out of there, or at the end, perhaps being the guy who saves her. He knows how to, ya know, use stuff and probably knows where to find really good stuff. Unlike Rose, he can run and shoot at the same time! He run a lot longer than her too. He does this hobbling run though where it throws off his aim but he can do it.
Captain Haley is a supersoldier in power armor from a far more successful R&D lab and is sent in to clean up this mess as soon as things go haywire. She plays a lot like Private Caldor except for a lot of key differences- minimized shake, it’s still there but almost unnoticeable, endless sprint, better weapons, she can CQC with many of these bio-demons and can just stay in one spot in order to regenerate health. She is actively seeking the nastiest concentrations of these things in order to stem the infestation and dance around her superiors’ orders to just use a nuke buried at the bottom of the base. Haley and Caldor cross paths, but it’s mostly a matter of him going “What the Fuck” as a space marine runs by him and her going, “Oh wow, there’s some vanilla dude still fighting over here, good for him.”
Dorn was a demon hunter from centuries ago, buried in an unmarked grave just outside the city. Half zombie, half wraith, he rises up once again when his spirit feels another incursion on the world of the living. Since he hovers above the ground, he moves impossibly fast with absolutely no jostling. He can carry a huge arsenal because he just keep everything in a pocket dimension until he’s not using it, switching weapons comes with fwooshing fire animation. He only heals by killing demons. He knows precisely where the main portal is by sixth sense and similarly the demons know where he is and their most powerful soldiers make a beeline for him. Haley and Dorn cross paths, though it’s barely a moment for Dorn and a real “What the Fuck” for Haley. He does cross paths with Rose, where in her campaign depending on where she ran into Caldor. Either way, he’s impressed by how an unaugmented mortal has survived this long. Rose, on the other hand, just assumes the flaming skeleton in full plate armor is another monster here to kill her with predictable reactions.
I was thinking the Dorn and Rose campaign would be unlockables for beating their adjacent campaigns. A purposeful incongruity would be that the characters are silent protagonists in their own campaigns but when cameoing in someone else’s would have voiced lines.

while I generally like everything halo pre-infinite, one thing I do NOT abide by is the Halo Legends anime series of short stories. Let me complain:
4 of the 7 shorts are constructed around fridging - the killing of a usually-cisfemale character to motivate or exacerbate the struggle/pain of a overwhelmingly-cismale protagonist.
In the baby sitter, a Spartan-II dies on a high-import mission so an expendable redditor of an ODST can feel bad about her dying, but ONLY after he finds out she’s a feeeeeeeeemale, and thus too pure and innocent and good for war.
in prototype, a ptsd-ridden marine gets to use the death of his feeeeeeeeemale squadmate in a previous battle to justify going Joker Mode™ 2 Edgy 4 U with a mech suit.
in homecoming, a Spartan gets traumatized, and then her Washout-Spartan friend dies to compound her misery, and then she herself dies to the most war-crimey weapon ever invented, accomplishing nothing because Harvest sucked for everyone.
in the duel, a Fake Arbiter fights an Honorable Battle™ to avenge his Fake Wife’s (and Gay Lover’s) murder, which occurred in-story solely to hurt him for closing the door on the jehovahs witnesses too many times, and she looks nothing like a sangheili and its bad. she looks like a na’vi. the concept art gave the sangheili human heads with a single set of hinge jaws where the mouth should be. it offends my sensibilities. and the designs, like, theres a difference between giving the elites a japanese flavour and just making them yamato in space
the other two (plus the duel) are so laughably non-canon, even among shorts that are also non-canon, it hurts.
the package pisses me off. you have teenager dr halsey. you have tiny space fighters never used again, you have some random elite who is not Thel Vadam being pinned as Arbiter because SOMEONE ELSE - okay. Hold on. The Fleet has captured Dr. Halsey. okay. Spartans board the ship, wreak havoc, try to rescue Halsey. Okay. an elite major goes and duels John. Good. The shipmaster then DETATCHES the back half of a FIVE KILOMETER LONG CITY-SHIP, killing THOUSANDS of crew (who are in an EXTREMELY rare mixed Brute-Elite battlegroup) to kill a Spartan and an asset who is literally too important to die, and then FAILING at that because the major HAD John dead to rights about to be killed and the shipmaster pointlessly grav-lifted SPECIFICALLY HIM away, and then has the GALL to snidely claim that the MAJOR will be the one deemed a heretic (”or Arbiter”, yeah, okay, that happens with literally every heretical sangheili, sure thing writers) for the crime... of doing exactly what he was supposed to do? Like i think the bigger issue here is the shipmaster who just ruined any chance of the jiralhanae and sangheili ever working together peacefully because a sangheili shipmaster just murdered a bunch of brutes (and elites) for... the funsies?? You literally could’ve jumped WITH the asset AND Spartan on-board into Covenant territory to be dealt with. Also, more seriously, is the way the short portrays the SINGULAR Afro-American Spartan-II seen (up to even today!?) as brash and headstrong, compared to his “better” peers - out-of-character for a II. Made it so the Black Dude Dies First. Eugh. Also also, they literally Solo: a Star Wars Story some of Cortana’s lines for Halsey that have... blindingly little to do with the situation at hand. Yeesh.
origins is buck-wild, because the forerunner stuff is accurate enough for the era the lore was in but uh... it really veers out of left field with the last half. the spectacle is great, but i think its all mainly metaphorical.
Literally, the only good short of the whole bunch is Odd One Out. Condenses an entire 3-season 90′s anime into 10 minutes. has the ghost stories VAs. stupid. glorious. dinosaurs. saiyan attack pod brute. big momma. give me an entire anime based on this premise. trim it of the halo license if need be. Give it too me.

Sunrunner - Chapter Six
A scream echoed through the corridors, punctuated by the solitary report of a pistol. Odybrix was in the process of shoving BOB forward when she saw Buddy double back. Behind them, seemingly heedless of imminent dismemberment, Sturdy snapped pictures of the monstrosity with the PDA on his wrist. Buddy was beside him in a second, pulling him away.
“Get out of there, you idiots!” Odybrix yelled.
Sturdy spun and ran, with Buddy backpedaling behind him. The upper torso of the dwarf sailed through the intersection of the passageways and landed somewhere unseen with a wet thud. Odybrix barely registered the arm whipping out from around the corner in a blur of claws, but Buddy, miraculously, did. The monstrosity swung wildly, each swipe promising evisceration if it landed, but Buddy somehow dodged them all. Not only that, but she fought back.
A few strands of her ponytail were severed as she ducked a horizontal swing and rolled away, snapping off six shots from her laser pistols. Two blasts struck the thing’s head, leaving smoking holes. Odybrix released a breath she was holding, expecting the thing to slump to the ground. Instead, the flesh around the wounds convulsed and knit together, like it hadn’t even been shot. A wet seam opened in the middle of its featureless head, revealing rows of finger-length teeth. Odybrix gathered psionic energy to shove the thing away, but Adam acted first.
“Get down!”
Buddy somersaulted away from the creature as a grenade sailed overhead and detonated. The monstrosity screeched as a flash of bright orange flame consumed it. Odybrix didn’t wait to see if the grenade had solved their monster problem; she let loose the psionic blast and shunted its flaming bulk down the passageway. Adam fired a few perfunctory shots in the thing’s direction—an extra kick in the ass for good measure—and they ran.
“Change your mind about explosives inside ships?” Odybrix asked.
“No. This was a special circumstance. And mine wasn’t attached to a torpedo,” Adam said.
“Sure, sure. Talk to me when we’re back aboard, we can go over the finer points of setting off grenades in tight spaces.”
“I’m not making a habit of this.”
Ozzy came on their comms channel as they fled, “We’ve got a ship inbound.”
“Reinforcements?” Zenith asked.
“I don’t think so, ZT. It’s big. Bigger than a group of mercs could afford.”
“Darlings,” Hilde said, cheerfully joining the conversation, “I have great news. Scans indicate that the ship is frigate-class with a full weapons complement presently armed and targeting the barquentine.”
“We’re on the barq! How is that good news?” Odybrix asked.
“Because this ship is a celebrity!” Hilde said, sending an image of a massive vessel to their feed. “Note how the bow is shaped like a colossal blade? This is the HWS Warspite, flagship of planet Grolvar!”
“What did these guys do to piss off the orcs?” Odybrix asked.
“We need to get to rev space ASAP,” Adam said, fear creeping into his voice. “That ship is infamous.”
“Torpedoes incoming!” Ozzy said.
Odybrix turned the corner towards the airlock. She caught a glimpse of the dark outlines of Hoxley and the dog bathed in flood lights as they boarded the Sunrunner. How did that scrawny cook move so fast? The question didn’t have time to marinate in her mind.
A cataclysmic boom rocked the ship and sent the crew flying into the bulkheads. The pummeling shockwave was immediately followed by the irresistible pull of space—a torpedo had cracked the barq open like an egg. Odybrix’ arms flailed, grasping for anything that could keep her anchored. She managed to grasp onto a dead power conduit, channeling all of her psionic might to keep a grip. Something flashed in her periphery and she turned her head just in time to see Adam barrel into her, sending them both spinning into the void.
“They’re targeting us,” Ozzy said. “Taking evasive maneuvers. I need you all to group up behind the barq. Shit, the new guy’s suit is ruptured. He can’t maneuver.”
Odybrix saw it—a small form in the starlit distance with a trail of O2 spewing from a cut line. A perfunctory “Oh well” crossed her mind and she turned towards the others, stopping just before engaging the maneuvering thrusters. Buddy said she had a good feeling about this guy—a dubious endorsement from someone whose memory didn’t go farther back than the last time they stocked the ship. Odybrix looked at the crew gathering, then back at Sturdy struggling to clamp his line shut. Fuck.
Psionic implants were a wonderful way to melt someone’s brain or stop bullets from tearing through your own brain—that’s why she got the implants, to be sure—but there were other non-brain-wrecking benefits. Specifically, flying like a hawk through space. She sped off towards secret agent dumbass in a flash of pink light. The small human form grew quickly and she could see him trying and failing to connect the severed line. It wouldn’t work without something to seal it. Fortunately, she had access to psychic glue.
A small glow formed around the two pieces of the O2 line. Keeping a space for the air to move required fine psionic control, but she was good. She swooped behind him, grabbing him under the shoulders and rocketing towards the others like a halfling jetpack. This guy owed her a favour after this. Buddy too.
A halo of annihilation framed the barq as it shed chunks of hull into space. The crew took shelter behind the crumbling vessel and waited anxiously for salvation. The Sunrunner deftly avoided most of the distant Warspite’s fire, but when it slowed to retrieve the crew, a plasma cannon rocked its shields in a blinding collision of energy. If the shot were any closer, it would have torn their suits, and probably their flesh, apart.
“If you blow up my ship I’ll kill you, Ozzy!” Zenith shouted over the crackling comms.
“I’m doing my best, ZT. Airlock is open, get ready.”
As the Sunrunner drifted to a stop, Odybrix caught a glimpse of something.
“Get in!”
“I’ll be right back,” she said, planting her feet on Sturdy’s back and kicking him to the ship.
“What do you mean you’ll be back?” Zenith asked, “Did you forget to turn the oven off on the exploding ship? Get in here!”
“Start the rev engine. I’ll be quick.”
She raced off in a streak of pink light, certain she had seen it floating in the debris. If they listened to her, she’d have about sixty seconds before they jumped to rev space. Plenty of time. Ten seconds went by: scrap metal, wires. Twenty seconds: scrap metal, dead body, bed. Thirty seconds: scrap metal, toilet. Fuck, where is it? A red case with a white cross drifted out from behind a piece of bulkhead.
“Yes!” Odybrix said, swooping in and grabbing the medical chest.
She sped towards the Sunrunner, pushing with all of the force her psionics would allow. The barq was coming apart behind her and it wouldn’t be long before one of those blasts hit the rev engine and obliterated what remained. She saw the airlock. Adam was waiting inside with an outstretched hand. When he saw that she wasn’t slowing down, he spread both his arms and caught her as she shot inside, knocking them both into the wall.
“She’s in!” Adam said with a grunt.
“Rev jump in five, four…”
Odybrix gave herself a second to breathe, then looked back at the remains of the ship as the airlock closed. Remembering what was inside, she quickly keyed in a sequence on her PDA.
“Two, one.”
She tapped a button and watched as the explosive she planted detonated the torpedoes. A fraction of a second later, they jumped away.

Overlord meme

You are in fact told that they will die but you do not know when. Also, a lot of male characters have made me feel sorry for the shock factor. ° In akame ga kill various female characters are killed, suffering even more than male ones. In the end she desperately commits suicide. She eventually loses her memories of the Death note but she continues to love light. ° In death note, we have Misa who falls in love with Light after he has given her justice but the latter just wants her to use her. To conclude, I assume that the author's aim was to give the element of shock and to make Arche feel sorry (with me it didn't work but maybe with others it did) but if the fandom jokes about it or spits unmotivated hatred on the character, this only shows that either it did not understand the author's intentions or that the author did not do a great job. Also Arche is described not as pretty or pretty (the only decent thing seems to be her delicate features). Before Arche, Enri, tsuare, evileye were saved but nobody hates this fact. Then, this pretty girl thing is a farce. Arche, on the other hand, is killed, butchered, hated for no reason by those who remained alive and remember her (Ainz and her father), without having fulfilled her desire for her. E-Rantel improved following Nazarick's take. The lizardmen were in the midst of a famine as they are now growing up. In addition, she and her group of hers are well remembered by someone (Ainz and Tsuare). Finally, Ninya is eventually avenged and her main wish for her (to save her sister) comes true. The narrator says he is angry) even if it's all because of him. Also if you think about it, Ainz gets mad at them for entering the tomb (go read when he sees the workers in the throne room. If up to volume 6 ainz had reasons such as wanting to survive or learn more about that world, from volume 7 a conquest of the world begins just to cover a joke and Arche and co, end up in the middle. It is actually most of the fandom who judge ainz's actions and justify him. The people who, in your opinion, love this character are very few. You will notice that it is most of the fandom who hates it talking about this character.

Bloodborne Bosses rated by how they smell, from worst to best
22. The Orphan of Kos
Imagine the world's grungiest harbour. Imagine smelling algae, rotting seawood and a million dead, decomposing fish bobbing belly-up on the waves. Now imagine giving birth there.
Rating: I'm counting the fact that the good hunter does not spend the first seconds of the fight dry-heaving as a plot hole.
21. The One Reborn
Look at it. It's a few dozen dead people held together with superglue. You cannot expect it to smell like anything other than rotting flesh and blood and whatever birth juices the moon had to offer.
Rating: They do say babies have a special newborn smell...don't think that's what they meant.
20. The Blood-Starved Beast
I know that smelling of blood is a recurring theme in this list, but look at that thing. Look at it. It clearly smells like blood and the wettest dog that has never been cleaned in its life.
Rating: I've learned that the mane on its head is not in fact matted fur but aaaalll the skin of its body. I haven't slept since.
19: Laurence, The First Vicar
Two words: Burnt. Hair. The man smells like a whole fur coat factory that's been lit on fire.
Rating: A smell that brings tears to any hunters eyes.
18. Ludwig, the Accursed
Expanding our olfactory library, this boss smells not only of blood but also of horse! As someone who has spent some time of their teens in a stable, this is not a compliment. I had to throw away my working jacket.
Rating: A smell not even a horse girl could love.
17. The Witches of Hemwick
They clearly have weaponized old people smell. Just look at them, they are not taking care of their living space or of their bodies. Look at them. There's stuff growing on them.
Rating: I can smell the pickled cabbage from here.
16. Martyr Logarius
He also has the most pungent old people smell, but as opposed to the witches who are marinating in their senior citizen stink, he is located at the top of a windy roof and the smell is slightly dispersed.
Rating: My nose has frozen off, I cannot smell the pickled cabbage anymore.
15. Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos
On the plus side: Ebrietas smell definitely has some notes of petrichor. However, she predominantly smells like petrichor's evil cousin, the smell of all the worms and slugs that used the rain to make the long trek across asphalted streets and died there.
Rating: Smell of my childhood (derogatory).
14. Father Gascoigne
It's not your fault, buddy. After a long night of hunting you will smell like blood and sweat, especially when you're also in the middle of going full beast mode, which also adds the smell of wet dog.
Rating: I don't blame you, buddy, but I will surreptitiously hand you an axe body spray.
13. Cleric Beast
Beats out Father Gascoigne on the technicality that I don't think it can sweat. Otherwise blood, wet dog, you've heard it before.
Rating: Can anyone recommend a pet groomer that specialises in large breeds?
12. Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower
I know, I know, Lady Maria is big sexy, but she also smells like stale blood and fish guts because you better believe the nightmare won't let her forget. I like to think she at least uses some sort of perfume to mitigate the effects.
Rating: Diversity Win! This woman smells bad!
11: Micolash, Host of the Nightmare
Look at him. Look at his face. You cannot tell me he showers regularly. Bonus points because while he doesn't smell pleasant, there's at least no arcane fuckery going on with his stink. He just doesn't shower.
Rating: Nasty man.
10: Gehrman, the First Hunter
You can't escape the old people smell, but you can mitigate its effects. While Gehrman certainly doesn't seem the most invested in personal hygiene, he doesn't give me the "feral man living off of forgotten snacks in the university library" as Micolash does.
Rating: Congratulations! I wouldn't change seats if he sat down next to me on public transport.
9: Rom, the Vacouus Spider
Her smell is extremely subjective. It's definitely a wet smell, damp basement if I had to narrow it down, and while some people will find it nice and calming other's will check the walls for mold in a panic.
Rating: This post was made by the loving damp basements gang.
8: Darkbeast Paarl
Yes, we are continuing on our "beasts smell like wet dog" campaign, but given that Paarl is barely more than a zappy skeleton, this smell is greatly overpowered by the minutes-before-a-thunderstorm-smell of his electric charge.
Rating: Putting it so high on the list hurt me because I do not like Darkbeast Paarl.
7: The Shadows of Yharnam
I don't think these dudes smell too bad! Maybe their robes have a slight mothball scent, and maybe you will catch a whiff of unclean snake terrarium when you get too close - but they have fire magic and swords to discourage you getting up close and personal anyway.
Rating: Sadly I have had to get close to many an unclean snake terrarium in my life, so I appreciate their social distancing.
6: Amygdala
Guys, I'm stumped. I honestly do not think Amygdala has any smell at all, or at least a smell our brains can recognise. Far outside the smellable spectrum! The perfect true neutral!
Rating: Yes, that means each boss that follows is on the pleasant side of the olfactory scale.
5: Celestial Emissary
With the Celestial Emissary, you get all the benefits of Darkbeast Paarl without the underlying notes of beastlyhood. Points docked only for the smell probably being a bit intense and irritating after a while.
Rating: Enjoyable from a distance, would not recommend huffing.
4: Vicar Amelia
She is freshly transformed. Her fur is clean and not even slightly damp. She's also been surrounded by incense in her chapel. Some points docked for doggy breath, but honestly, she's the best smelling beast out there.
Rating: I'm not a furry I'm nooooottt!!!
3: Living Failures
Whatever the Celestial Emissary has going on, but a bit less intense. No pharmaceutical warning stickers on these funky dudes! The most apt comparison would be the elusive gas station smell.
Rating: Even more reason to be their friend.
2. Mergo's Wetnurse
Now, I hear your questions. How could such a monstrous being be so high up on the list? But listen, Great Ones are not beholden to our earthly scents. They will smell however the fuck they want to smell. And, as a wetnurse, I imagine Mergo's Wetnurse's scent to be a soothing one, if completely uncomparable to any other found on earth.
Rating: To unbury an ancient tumblr meme: Smells like a cinnamon roll but would definitely kill you.
1. The Moon Presence
Contrasting her ghastly appearance, I imagine her smelling quite refeshing, flowery even, much like the hunter's dream itself. Her name is Flora, for crying out loud. Now imagine how the good hunter feels when they realise that nothing in the hunter's dream really gives off its own smell, and that perfume must be coming from somewhere - or something - else.
Rating: It's not a coincidence that Moon Presence sounds like the name of an expensive perfume.
