You know I didn’t realize after AA5/6 just how badly I needed a judicial assistant who was like. Respected and valued by their attorney. Seeing how highly Ryu thinks of Susato is such a breath air after so many variations of the Manzai duo vibes
In case 4 when Van Zieks insults her and Ryu IMMEDIATELY snaps back with “I consider her advice essential and her assistance invaluable. Please go ahead, Susato” he instantly became my favorite. Put some respect on her name

Wait do you think Annabeth Chase is abusive? Not trying to start an argument! Just genuinely curious because I never picked up on that before & I want to see if maybe this is a 'blindspot' I need to work on. Or did you mean a different character from the YA girlfriend poll?
No, I was talking about Annabeth. It's obviously not something RR intended, it's just a result of how fucking terrible he is at writing flirty banter (he just crosses the line into verbal abuse) and that he clearly thinks it's SO FUNNY when girls are violent against boys.
@hermesmyplatonicbeloved summarised it very well recently here but I've also gone more in detail about it with examples before here
Now, I'm not gonna pretend like all of my ships are perfect. I'm very familiar with the concept of recognising flaws in a ship and just deciding to like it anyway. I'm not gonna judge anyone for doing that with p/ercabeth. What baffles me is the widespread unawareness of those flaws. And what horrifies me is how often I see Annabeth's abusive tendencies actually encouraged by her stans and seen as something Percy deserves. Or just generally turned into a joke.

I have seen the repeated sentiment that we can like the Jedi and Anakin. Yeah, that's true.
But why assume that people want to like Anakin, that they think they have to hate Anakin? Yes, a large part of why people don't like Anakin is just because of the genocide of the Jedi Order.
But there is so much more reason to dislike Anakin that have little to do with the Jedi.
Although, the anti Jedi people who like to use Anakin to say why the Jedi are bad make it real hard to find reason to like Anakin.
I'm not a big hater. I don't like to hate. But... I don't like Anakin.
I don't want to like Anakin.
Yes, I'm pro Jedi, and funnily enough, my feelings regarding how Anakin treated the Jedi are just the cherry on top of the huge pile of why I don't like Anakin.
Why I don't like Anakin: Simply put, I've encountered people like him in my own life, including my own mother, and that means I do not have the patience for a character that's like a person I'm low contact with in real life.
Anakin is enough like my mom that I have written him with how my mom would react in mind. Sure she's not actually murderous, but she is very emotionally immature and takes things personally.
I am still untangling the damage she did to me growing up, and realizing how much she did that wasn't right now that I am raising my own children.
Worse, I am like my mom, and like Anakin. They are what I could be if I wasn't putting in the work to be a good person. If I wasn't trying to always learn from my mistakes. If I wasn't always trying to step back from my emotions to recognize I'm being irrational.
And that scares me. I could be like Anakin. And that is why I don't like him. I don't want to write a character who isn't good, who is who I could be. I don't want to work at making someone better when I know it will take a miracle to change his mind, after my experiences with my mom.
Nope. Not happening.
So. I don't like Anakin. I love the Jedi Order. Two separate statements that for me are not connected. They are separate choices for me.

Trick or Treat 🧡
TRICK or
"i don't even know where you end and i begin"
Sirius Black didn’t think about things like death. He didn’t think about endings, changes, the disappearance of things past. He kept his thoughts on the present moment, and let some other part of himself, curled up in the farthest corner of his ribcage, hold its breath over things like these.
So he never thought about James dying, and he was always thinking about James dying, and, anyway, it didn’t matter, because they were here, now, in this moment, clutching each other’s clothes, laughing with glee because they’d made it through another duel, they’d both crawled out of the rubble of the latest blown up building, Sirius could watch with his own eyes as James’ chest rose and fell, rose and fell, and know there was enough life in both of them in this moment that he didn’t care what happened in the next.
The part of him in the corner of his ribcage squealed when he thought these things, like it was the same as him saying he didn’t care what happened at all, like he was wishing for everything to end by being grateful it hadn’t. It squealed and screamed, BUT LOOK, LOOK, THIS IS WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN! and he’d start to see it, for a moment, what James’ body might look like lifeless, contorted beneath a pile of stone, dirt and blood smeared where there should be a grin, arms and legs bent—
But he’d press the pads of his fingers into the flesh of his very, very alive James, and he’d forget the part of himself holding its breath, fall instead into the sound of his laugh, the way it made Sirius’ chest bloom, the very sound of it igniting his adrenaline. Where could death even find a place to squeeze itself between them? There was no room.
So on October 31st, when Sirius stepped around the rubble in Godric’s Hollow to find James’ body lifeless and contorted, he pushed the pads of his fingers into his own hand and waited. He watched James’ mouth, knowing exactly which corner would be the first to curl. He stared at the blood and the dirt and tried to find the grin hidden beneath them. He searched James’ chest and, thinking he’d seen it rise and fall, took two rushing steps forward. But up close, it was clear. He had never seen James’ chest still like that before. Could never have imagined it so still. Thought of that stillness every second from the moment he met James. Didn’t worry about it enough.
For eleven years, he and James made so much life between the two of them, Sirius didn’t think about things like death. There’d just been no room.
Sirius Black was three days shy of twenty-two when he learned that Death does not need room. If it can’t find space to fit between two people, it just swallows them both whole.

I do not like Frederick Chase in the slightest, don’t get me wrong, but I do sympathize with him and other Athena mortal parents. I mean, with the other gods, there’s usually some kind of relationship beforehand - even if it’s just a one-night stand, there’s still some kind of situation that could, feasibly, result in a kid. Dropping single parenthood on someone is an absolute dick move, obviously, with little to no support and a child who will likely die before they hit 25 making the whole deal extra rotten, but there is, if nothing else, the knowledge that what you are doing could result in a kid. Like if you had a one night stand with some lady and a kid shows up on your doorstep then you’re at least aware that this was a possible consequence, even if you don’t know about the god thing.
Athena doesn’t do that. Athena doesn’t date or have sex with anyone. She meets a mortal who she likes the brain of and just… makes them a kid?? With supposedly no prior knowledge or consent from the other party. They have no way of knowing that their 3-hour debate with Some Smart Lady will make them a single parent. What’s crazier is that Annabeth says Athena kids are claimed from BIRTH. Which means they’re attacked by monsters from birth.
So like, imagine you’re a college-aged kid and you meet some lady that you enjoy being around and debating with. You have a nice, solid relationship that sort of resembles a couple but is solidly platonic. She helps you get into University and pass your classes. You have never done anything romantic, and she was very clear on her status as ace/aro (not in those exact words). Then she reveals her status as a God, drops a kid on your front door, tells you that she is yours to deal with and she will NOT be taking her back because she has to be raised by her mortal parent, who is you, by the way, congratulations, (don’t ask how she has half of your genetic material despite never having sex with this woman) oh and also monsters will be attacking her (and by extension, you) literally from the moment she opens her eyes. (They are already open, by the way.) Then she dips, never to be seen again, no child support in sight, and now everyone thinks you knocked up some poor woman who couldn’t handle the pressure. You Did Not. Also the kid is smarter than you and you’re like 23. Like Frederick is an absolute DICK, don’t get me wrong, but I do sympathize with him.
Of course, it’s possible that she informs her chosen mortals about her status as a god, as well as the children they will be receiving. But considering Frederick is said to have begged her to take Annabeth back, this implies that she either didn’t tell him about Annabeth, OR she DID tell him about her, he said no, and then she made Annabeth anyway and forced him to take her even though he didn’t want her. She definitely told him about being a god eventually, but we have no way of knowing if she was upfront about it or waited for who knows how long. (Considering her rrverse personality, I’d assume she’d tell him - and by extent, the other mortals - early on, but there really isn’t any way to know)
….yes I know about Darren and Apollo. Who knows how that went down, honestly. I like to think Apollo at least told this guy about the kid beforehand. I’m curious why he did that in the first place, honestly?? What is it about this Specific Guy that made him be like “yeah I need to have a kid with this dude.” Does he do this to all his male lovers?? Was Darren Informed?? Mr Riordan I have Questions

why does Rick Riordan hate the original myths so bad 💀
the Asphodel stuff?? regret? where is that coming from? you fully just made that shit up? out of his ass fr. the fields of Asphodel are specifically an area of neutrality, where the pretty much all mortals go when they die. it's for anyone who lived a normal life, who isn't a hero or a literal monster. it's specifically a neutral zone for people to exist once they die, it has nothing to do with ~your regrets in life~. it's like, a peaceful field of flowers where all your life's troubles are left behind on the surface.
the closest things to that is the fields of mourning/sorrow, but that's specifically for unrequited romantic love and also not called the fields of Asphodel (and also I'd bet money that rr doesn't know what that is) (and also only in Virgil's The Aeneid and not the Odyssey with the rest of what we know of the underworld)

Snippet Sunday
Have some Sunset
Achilles throws his head back, and he howls.
The sound reverberates in all four directions of the intersection, echoing off the tall buildings. More than one person drops what they are holding to cover their ears. Windows shatter, the streetlights pop and spark before falling dim, and Achilles continues screaming until the whole street is dark, until other sirens are wailing with him, and everyone with the audacity to still be alive is on their knees, on the ground, like he is. He screams until there is no breath left in his chest, and when he gasps an inhale, everything goes silent and still.
Sparks hover in the air. The snow that has been falling so steadily all night stops mid-flight. The people around him in the street are still. Everything is unmoving. Achilles has not heard such silence since he first arrived in this cursed place.
“Gods, that’s the good stuff,” a voice rings out. The words are almost moaned, and Achilles doesn’t need to look to know who has said them. Glass crunches underneath her shoes as she approaches. Only when she is right in front of them does Achilles look up. Aphrodite towers over them, twice as large as a mortal woman, pupils so wide and black are swallowing even the whites of her eyes. She runs her tongue over her teeth. Achilles clutches Patroclus closer, as if he can protect him from her now. “I mean, nobody does it like you,” she drawls, “Nobody.”

Nobody was freaking hostile to Nico. Not unless they were his freaking enemies.
Chiron mentioning how he hoped Nico was eaten by monsters when he went missing at age 10
Percy choking him out being scared of him calling him a creep and thinking about chunking stuff at him while he was recuperating from literal Tartarus
Annabeth giving him the side eye and always mentioning how he was too creepy for her
Leo literally scuffing at the idea of helping Nico at all and calling him the creepy di Angelo when Nico had a set of plates fall on top of his head two days after getting out of Tartarus
Piper specifically being surprised at the idea of anybody wanting to help Nico at all
Jason wanting to abandon him on the jar and then remarking that just being the child of Hades is a good reason for anybody to be scared of you and that going out of your way to not act scared is a very grand considerate act
Frank literally mentioning how he wants to chuck him into the water while they are in Italy and how much Nico creeps him out
The whole camp shunning away from him at every turn and literally only showing him basic respect after he saved them from a titan
And I can keep going if you want me to dumbass
