The message of my post was contextual. I was referring to the way that Ryan and most of the world interact with ghosts as a concept. The act of bringing holy water on a ghost hunt isn't pre-Biblical lol or even talk of "The Devil".

hi!! ive been searching for a fic and im worried it got deleted ówò but its a demon!shane fic i think?? and he's just keeping ryan in this like time loop/alternate dimension kind of situation where he can keep ryan all to himself or something. all i can really remember is a few times in the fic where ryan brings up that somethings off and shane distracts him and such (sorry this is so vague!! i read it so long ago, thank you!!)

I hope they actually wrote it and it’s not like buzzfeed using them for more money and it’s just like quotes from the show basically and what happened at the locations.

I find myself hoping the same, but until they actually announce it themselves and explain their involvement, it's hard to say. All we have to go on is this

I have a feeling they were under an NDA and something administrative at Buzzfeed got mixed up so that the book got listed with absolutely zero promotion. What a mess lol

Can't wait to find out if this is another of their fun projects and they really did sit and cowrite a book together because I'll be honest, I already pre-ordered it. I just feel that regardless of what it is, it's a collector's piece worth having.

I know it wouldve been weird for Shane to be in the livestream but once again, it hurts that he's as silent as he was last year during the protests

I think this ask really solidifies a deeper problem we have in the way by which we go about our activism, especially online activism. So much of the success of many social justice movements started by people of colour depends far too much on white acknowledgement. This isn’t a judgement call on those who feel the need to spread the word to circles where people have the systemic power to make a difference (which are circles that are predominately white). This is more of a discussion about the nuance that comes with supporting a creator and demanding--perhaps even needing--their validation about things we feel they should care about. This need comes with a pedestal as well and while I am the first to argue that a platform with a lot of people looking at you immediately imbues your existence as a person with the power and obligation to be a good role model, I also feel that if a creator with a large platform is ill-equipped to perform those aspects of their work, they shouldn’t force it. 

So this is going to come across as very cold but know that I say this with the deepest sympathies I can afford right now as a fellow fan of the guy, but if Shane doesn’t believe he has the words or the capacity to speak fluidly and effectively against racism as a person who has never experienced it, then he shouldn’t do it because oftentimes pushing white voices to the forefront or asking them to weigh in simply because more people would listen or because it would mean something to you personally, can at times, do more harm than good. 

Basically, guys. Stop looking to your white faves to do the work that people of colour are busting their asses to do more effectively. If Shane decides to do a retweet or make some kind of statement, good. It is the bare minimum he can do next to giving to organizations or stepping back so his co-founders can speak from a place of perspective. 

Personally, I’d just be impressed if he just said anything to the effect of “Listen to Steven and Ryan right now. They’ve lived it and I support them,” which technically, was covered the first few minutes of the stream when Ryan explained in clear terms that everyone at Team Watcher is sympathetic and supportive.

I'm so concerned! Shane hasn't said anything about Ryan and Mari getting engaged! It's so WEIRD. Maybe something happened between him and Ryan? They didn't hang out at ALL recently. :(

I mean we’ll never truly know how Shane feels because he probably won’t say anything to us at all. 

In fact, I’ve been checking my DMs all morning and nothing from him about how happy he is that his long-time best friend who he started a company with and is about to film months of content with now that they’re both vaccinated and the woman who turned his best friend’s life around after a devastating break-up are engaged now. Can’t wait for Shane to tell us the truth or else all of our headcanons about him being the pining one in this slowburn will thrive. Ahhh too bad. Another round of fanfiction about broken promises and a tall bean man with feelings he can’t express sad about his best friend’s happiest day.

I do in fact think he did. After the announcement and videos came out, I was initially thinking of that part of Watcher Weekly + I think 4 weeks ago when Shane was teasing Ryan, asking him if he had any plans and Ryan was smiling real big saying he definitely didn’t and Shane brought it up again at the end so I have no idea what that was about but actually, and I don’t know if I’m allowed to share a screenshot since it happened in Observer-chat but Ryan had his AMA in there today and told us that he informed all of his close friends and hers that he wanted to propose to her back in NOVEMBER!!! 

So, yeah, Shane been knew.  😂

I just got around to watching the puppet history season finale and oh boy... that song was so good <3 I didn’t see anyone talkin about how good the song was! what gives ? great song loved it

It was. Shane is a great song producer and the people he has working with him are fantastically talented people who love the music as much as he does. If you join the patreon, he recently began doing deconstructions and commentaries on the process of his song-writing and composing and I was soooo blown away by how dedicated and fond he is of the work he’s doing. Makes rewatching the show so much more fun. 

If you haven’t as of yet, I highly recommend joining the patreon when you can. The backlog of content and the stuff coming up gets exciting with every month!

Oh this is a really funny little thing to notice because I legit would have missed it if you hadn’t pointed it out. He really does micro-express a moment of horror. He goes from distracted and smug because he just got confirmation that astrology is baloney, but then Ryan starts making concessions and he just, his eyes just zero right in on Ryan’s screen and you can feel the Oh No

The clear “wait wait no” of that look is so adorable. His eyes even widen a little

Do Uh...do people not realize that...considering Shane and Ryan are best friends, that 1) Ryan probably told Shane ahead of time that he was planning to propose to Mari. 2) Shane probably texted or called Ryan to congratulate him. 3) Shane doesn’t need to validate their friendship on Twitter dot com with a public congrats if he doesn’t want to?

Like honestly he’s probably making sure that nothing detracts from the spotlight on Ryan and Mari right now. (And he probably doesn’t want replies/comments to his posts from the subset of Shyan Shippers who are going to act a fool about this.)

1) you were right; he definitely did. 2) Yeah, they’re always texting. You saw Shane’s drunk texts to Ryan only a few hours after they were off zoom meetings all day 3) yes, their friendship is not our friendship and I have a feeling Shane (who I have a feeling is an expert contrarian knows people on Twitter and Instagram crave something mushy and heartfelt so he has designs not to give it to them). I mean tbf, we’d eat it up, too but ultimately, it doesn’t even matter. They’re building a beautiful ETHICAL company together with GREAT content that gets better with every season. We’ve got Nothing to worry about.

Why do I feel like every time Ryan and Shane breathe there’s people dissecting their friendship 😭

Welllllll if I can be completely real. The draw of most, if not all, of their content is their dynamic as friends. The separate but same voice they bring to their work reminds their viewers that friendship is real and that the relationships we cultivate in our lives can produce something equal if not more exciting. This has been the case of all dynamic duos in the public eye and it’s more than 70% of the reason Rhett and Link are so successful. People crave connection and they crave seeing relationships develop and they absolutely crave a story to go with it. So sometimes when the stars don’t align or you get mishaps like Myth Busters where those two didn’t even get along irl, people panic and wonder if the traits of a friendship they identify with are not the solid foundation of a good friendship especially if one they’re invested in doesn’t work out.

I say, while it’s a perfectly normal reaction, and yes, it is a running joke between my friends and I that anytime ANYTHING happens, my inbox fills with at least four different asks panicking that Ryan and Shane aren’t the friends we thought they were, it’s also okay to individualize the experiences of the two (or three now) because while of course we want Watcher to succeed, we also want the people that make up Watcher to make what makes them happy. Simple as that. 

I think we’re always going to have the occasional maudlin wave of people getting worked up whenever one of them says something that doesn’t match up with the Ideal Friendship Model. I know personally I have a tendency to emotionally doomsday prep when I think something’s coming to an end but I’ve gotten in the habit of remembering the exact feeling I had the day Watcher announced the date of their launch. That feeling, bottled, could propel me through another five years of ups and downs especially given how superb they did trying to get off the ground During a Global Pandemic.

Yeah, it’s chill. Just remind your friends and other people that it’s chill without losing it on them. It’s a normal reaction.
