Assassination Classroom Season 1 & 2
Tumblr media
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-fi
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review:
“Assassination Classroom” is a science fiction and comedy manga series created by Yūsei Matsui. Lerche produced the anime, which aired from January 2015 to June 2016. It follows the daily lives of a mighty tentacled alien creature, known as Korosensei, working as a junior high homeroom teacher and his students, who are dedicated to assassinating him to prevent Earth from being eliminated (Yerramaneni, 2020).

Spoiler alert: If you have not seen the anime yet, please exit this post now, as the following paragraphs will unveil the synopsis for both season 1 and season 2.
Season 1 of “Assassination Classroom” has a very engaging plot, and the characters are likeable. The series starts lighthearted and simple but becomes a rollercoaster of emotions as the story unfolds. The show tells the story of these junior high kids as they sharpen their assassination skills to confront their life problems, the oppressive school system, and, one day – the undefeatable Koro-sensei. I believe this season hits close to home, especially for those still studying in high school. The reason is that it shows the discrimination last class students faced. They were expected to be violent and slow-witted, while first-class students were featured as intelligent yet arrogant. Besides, the school also prioritized and praised first-class students while assigning the ones in the last class to do the dirty work of assassinating Korosensei.
Fortunately, my experience, in reality, is not as bad as the anime depiction because I did not recall any last-class students from my high school committing murder or any crime. Yet, I like this season as it encourages me to make friends with individuals, including my teachers, with different interests or personalities from me. As such, this season is a catalyst for inspiring me to come out of my shell and interact with others.

Next, I think season 2 of “Assassination Classroom” is even better than season 1. All the strengths of this series are still here, but they are greatly amplified - great humour, highly lovable characters, great chemistry between said characters, and a thrilling plot. The collection still contains all the best elements of the first season: good-quality animation mixed with equally good voice acting. Assassination Classroom does not fall into the old trap of only focusing on one or two students, but all the students get their chance to shine.
However, season 2 is the one that made me cry with tears of joy and sadness. When Class 3-E students' graduation was around the clock, the deadline for their mission to assassinate Korosensei was also near. Given how deeply the students have gotten attached to Korosensei, especially Nagisa, the top assassin in the class, it was even painful to watch the scene in which Korosensei comforted all of them and said his final goodbyes before Nagisa reluctantly delivered the final blow. Tears were streaming down my face nonstop when the music played.
Despite the iconic heartbreaking moment season 2 had, “Assassination Classroom” is my ultimate comfort anime series. Whether you are a fan of action or comedy, this series always has a place for you.

Assassination Classroom Review!
Hello and welcome to a new anime review! In this one, I'll be tackling a very popular anime: the one and only Assassination Classroom!
Tumblr media
I doubt an anime so well-known needs much introducing, but going over the basics can never hurt. Well, the first season of Assassination Classroom first aired in 2015 followed by a second season in 2016. These two seasons are respectively twenty-one and twenty-five episodes long. The anime focuses on various genres, but mostly school, action, but with a major focus on comedy.
Well, no need to beat around the bush: I thought it was great. There's clearly a reason it's so popular. Both seasons are excellent, very well paced, have a nice mix of comedic and emotional moments, and the plot itself is rather simple but so original. It's difficult to find flaws since there aren't many, to be honest.
As I mentioned before, the plot is pretty simple. A class of students is tasked with killing their teacher, a big yellow thing able to move at twenty times the speed of sound. Yet, for how simple it is, it is extremely innovative and well-done. It has a main storyline but also some subplots that always bring something interesting to the table, whether it's character development, character dynamics, or backstory. Not to mention the fact that - especially in Season Two - things get emotional on a couple of occasions, granting a great change of pace that makes this anime more than a simple action anime. The amazing humor is an added bonus - and a great one.
Still, there's absolutely zero doubt in my mind that this anime's greatest strength lies within its cast. Indeed, as in every other school anime, the whole class isn't equally good, but this anime manages to make a good half of the class interesting and well-developed. In addition, a couple of students - including the protagonist - are granted a specific focus, allowing them to shine - and shine pretty damn bright. Add an amazing teacher to the mix - the well-known Koro-sensei - and a few other good main characters, and you get a well-rounded cast that carries the anime. Character development is definitely empathized upon in specific episodes, and it's frankly pretty great. Of course, just like other school animes, character dynamics are crucial, and they're just on-point.
Next, the music is definitely another strong point. It always fits with the moment, and it plays a great role in the comedic scenes, but also in the more emotional/sad moments. Visually, this anime is pleasant to look at and has some greatly animated scenes, especially the fighting scenes. I also can't forget to mention how stunning the four openings are. In particular, OP 3 is great both musically and visually while carrying the essence of the anime. Good stuff.
Overall, you guessed it, I loved Assassination Classroom. It has all these quirks that made me laugh, but also a powerful ending that admittedly made me tear up. It's a classic at this point, and I can only urge you to give it a watch - you most likely won't regret it.
Down below is the tierlist for the characters! Thank you for reading this review!

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu 2 (2016)
A satisfying end to an anime with its 2nd season. Full of humor, touching moments, great openings. Even though it's not at the top of my list, it's still a great anime to watch. :) 7/10

All Time Favorite Mangas Part 1 (completed only)
Gonna be talking about my all time favorite mangas. I know I said I'd talk about shoujos but I haven't read a lot of shoujos recently tbh. Also I'm only going to be talking specifically about mangas that are COMPLETED IN ENGLISH, whether that's through a fan translation or a legit American publication. And I need to make this discrepancy because there's a ton of manga that I really enjoy that are not completed yet, but if you follow this blog at all, you're well aware of how much an ending can affect my opinion of something 🥲 So yeah, as such completed manga only.
Also as always this list is just in alphabetical order, not in order of what I like least/most etc, I'm not really gonna be talking about one over the other, especially since the genres of all the things I'm gonna mention are pretty different.
Also sorry if I talk very vaguely about any of the mangas. Since I'm only going to be talking about completed mangas, almost all of them are gonna be stuff I've haven't read in years. But at the same time, I guess that proves they're really good since I still consider them my favorites bwahaha.
Also sorry that this is once again a PERSONAL OPINION OF FAVORITES. I'm not really grading any of the manga by any sort of objective scale because I've avoided almost any SUPER mainstream manga. If you enjoy and read a lot of manga, you'll definitely recognize the stuff I'm gonna mention, but you'll also definitely notice a lack of stuff like FMA, SnK, etc. This is cuz I typically don't double dip for the super mainstream popular stuff. For example, Demon Slayer. I know this is gonna sound crazy but I quit Demon Slayer right away when the first few chapters came out back in 2016 . I didn't actively dislike the story but I just wasn't invested enough to keep reading. And here we are years later, a total Demon Slayer fan boy. But because of it, I'm probably gonna stick to the anime adaption since clearly it captivated me much more. The opposite is true for Vinland saga. I loved the manga, but the anime felt meh for me at first so I avoided watching it for months. Only after committing to finishing the season, did I find myself enjoying the anime lol.
AND THIS IS ONLY GONNA BE PART 1, CUZ I HAVE 15 TO TALK ABOUT. And it’s literally taken me I think a MONTH to write this cuz I’ve been so busy with school and life omg.
SORRY LONG INTRO OOPS
1. Alice in Borderland
Tumblr media
Yes, yes I know this has a live action netflix adaption, and I heard the netflix adaptation is pretty good but I've yet to watch it oops sorry. IVE ALSO NOT SEEN SQUID GAME AS OF ME TYPING THIS I KNOW. I'm not a big fan of the death game genre as of now, as it's slowly becoming the isekai of the seinen world, but I read Alice in Borderland way before I even knew that like death games were a genre to begin with haha. The games in the manga were pretty good and unique. The characters were obviously intentionally not all meant to be likeable, but they were believable characters. Arisu as a main character was surprisingly not a boring blank slate, which is a curse of the isekai and i guess now the death game genre too. I found his development and character change throughout the manga to be interesting. His love interest was also interesting and I'm glad she was someone more than "the main character's girl" especially because they were not immediately established together. The ending of the manga was zany and nonsensical in the way that I enjoy, like I said before, I don't mind plot holes haha. Overall just a really satisfying and interesting manga in the death game genre that doesn't feel generic or anything. Maybe I'll watch the netflix adaptation idk, I still gotta watch Squid Game and Hometown Cha Cha Cha lmaoooo.
2. Assassination Classroom
Tumblr media
I did actually watch the ENTIRE anime series for this one lolol. The anime was a pretty faithful adaptation of the manga and it was nice hearing the voice actors and actually getting to hear all the comedy bits and gags. I think Assassination Classroom is a very good example of just a nice, basic shounen manga that checks all the marks, ya know what I mean? There's action, hints of romance, a ton of comedy, all that. It's a fun manga that doesn't take itself TOO seriously but knows when to dial back the jokes. I remember genuinely crying at the ending of the manga, because I was truly emotionally invested in the story. However, I will say because of such a large cast of central character, and because of its status as just a shounen, both the manga and anime lacked a level of depth in its characters and story that made me TRULY be super invested in its entirety. For example, compare this to FMA and the FMA:B anime, which will forever be considered masterpieces despite being shounen. However, I'm perfectly fine with that. Assassin Classroom wasn't trying to be deep or thoughtful or anything (at least I hope so 😅) and it's just a fun popcorn flick of a manga to just chill and experience.
3. Binbougami Ga!
Tumblr media
If Assassination Classroom is a popcorn flick for shounen, then Binbougami Ga! is the popcorn flick for ... shounen. That's right. Despite the majority female cast and the drawing style and whatnot, Binbougami Ga! was catergorized as a shounen. From first glance, it might not seem like it, but read Binbougami Ga! and you'll see why it's a shounen lolol. More specifically I guess you could call it a comedy. So while Assassination Classroom was a shounen with a very comedic tone, I would say Binbougami Ga! is a comedy with a very shounen tone lol?? It's very funny. You don't gotta think too hard about anything. There's action and fighting but no crazy epic dramatic fight scenes or whatever. There's romance but it's not the main plot of the story. Less people have heard about this manga I'm assuming, so I'll summarize it as basically about this girl who is the "luckiest girl in the world/Japan" and then this spirit/god/ghost??? shows up to suck the luck out from her cuz she got too much luck and it's a mistake. But obviously our main girl is not gonna give up her luck. The manga is about the chaos and shenanigans that ensues. Super recommend for if you just want something silly and fun to read. There's an anime adaption too, but I never watched it and idk if it's a good adaptation so watch at your own discrepancy 🤷‍♀️
4. Boku Dake ga Inai Machi
Tumblr media
If y'all are able to discern my tastes in stuff by now, you already know this is gonna be on the list. YOU ALREADY KNOW I LOVE THIS. Also yes, this is another manga with an anime adaption, but I watched like 3/4 of it. I stopped when SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT 🚨 the main dude is still a kid and gets found out by the teacher, and goes into the coma. Based on posts I've seen about the differences between the anime and the manga, I guess I stopped at a good time though lolol. The anime’s ending is apparently completely different. I've even seen the live action adaption, and tbh I remember it being pretty good surprisingly, and it had the same ending as the manga (on the bridge). But yeah I loved this manga. I've reread it before, and honestly a second reading for this manga is mandatory, as for almost all mystery stories. Seeing all the foreshadowing and whatnot after knowing everything is so cool, and it helped me appreciate the story more. I genuinely didn't know anything the first time  and was surprised that it was the teacher (now that I'm an adult and I've reread it, it seems so obvious now bwahaha). I also missed the romantic subtext between the main guy and the girl from his OG timeline (seemed so obvious in the rereading too!) and just a bunch of other things. Super good mystery, super compelling characters and plot, and just overall really good. Art style is unique, bordering on “ugly” if we're being harsh, but I liked it.
5. Coppelion
Tumblr media
OKAY HEAR ME OUT. This is a HOT TAKE, I am well aware lolol. If you’ve ever heard about Coppelion, you probably heard about it from the anime (which did not do very well). Surprisingly, I watched the anime first I think?? I forgot it was some years ago when it released. Long enough to state that I watched it on Hulu back when Hulu was free (just needed an account). But yeah I have read the manga TWICE which means I liked it a lot, and TBH I cannot give you that many genuine reasons for you guys to read it too LMAO. It’s about these three young girls who are called Coppelion who are genetically engineered humans that can withstand nuclear radiation. Like the story was decent, the characters were decent, the art was ... questionably decent lol?? But nothing was AMAZING, nothing was GREAT. I think I just genuinely enjoyed the story as a light reading without thinking too heavily about the themes or topics. So although nothing was stellar, nothing was particularly too bad either. Also I was such a huge Haruto simp lmaoo. He was a blueprint for my type akdbjfkashdf.

Hi everyone! Anyone here from Southeast Asia? I am having a hard time finding a legal platform to watch anime because funimation is not available in our country and though crunchyroll is available, only a limited anime can be found. I also have Netflix but some of the anime I want to watch is either not compete or not found there, especially One Piece. Any suggestions where to watch aside from the above mention sites? I need help 🥺🥺🥺 pleaseeee.
Ps. I can access crunchyroll and watch one piece but I'm using VPN sooo is this still legal?

GR Anime Review: Assassination Classroom
Ah I’m super happy people are still talking about ass class even today! To be honest, he makes some really good points, it’s a good review.
I really liked his point of Karma and Nagisa almost having opposite journeys and then meeting on a middle ground before, it’s a super interesting way of looking at it and I really need to think about it some more now :’)

Review
Who knew a manga about a funky, yellow octopus-like creature could have so much heart? Assassination Classroom started off as a manga with a strange premise (to say the least), but it turned out to be a really well-rounded series. There was good character development and I liked how every character had their moment to shine, which is difficult to do in any story, especially ones with a cast as large as this one. All the students of Class 3-E learned how to turn their biggest weaknesses into their greatest strengths with the help of their wacky, though well-intentioned, homeroom teacher, Koro-sensei.
And despite some pacing issues around the middle of the series, there were some decent twists and turns, with everything being tied up well in the end.  There was certainly a good balance between comedy and feels along the way. Overall, I’ve learned not to judge a manga based solely on its description. I’d recommend it to people who enjoy action, science fiction, comedy, and tentacles.
Thank you for taking the time to read this review! I hope you will check out Alice in Mangaland for more manga reviews in the future! Arigato gozaimasu! Thank you!

ansatsu kyoushitsu: a review
hello! i haven’t been online in ages, but i have been watching anime, don’t worry about that hahaha.
finished ansatsu kyoushitsu/assassination classroom two days ago. it’s heartwarming, heartbreaking, inspiring, terrifying and funny all rolled into one. i never imagined i would find an anime i connected with more than haikyuu, or an anime learned more from than bungou stray dogs, but i have.
i thought this would be a regular slice of lie anime, just gauging from the manga (i’d read a couple of chapters before picking up the anime). it is slice of life, but it’s also science fiction, and it’s also romance, school, shounen and action. i love this show so much. i loved every episode and i clung on for more. (the only one i didn’t like so much was season 2 episode 1, because it felt like a filler episode to me.)
most of all, though, i love the intricate storytelling. it was rearranged from the manga in the best way possible, every intricate detail contributing to the big picture. the character development was wonderful and the animation was stunning. i never though i would love koro-sensei, itona or principal asano so much, but i do. i cried so much when the story ended the way it did - i never wanted the lessons to end, and i wanted more jokes and more action.
dare i say it - i miss koro-sensei just as much as class 3E does. i connect so much with this story, because i see myself in every single character - something i cherish.
[SPOILERS AHEAD - review continues under the cut]
i’m so sad i had to watch koro-sensei die. even though i knew he would, i knew which episode, heck, i even knew nagisa would kill him, coupled with the music and animation, that scene broke my entire heart. i can’t imagine killing someone who taught me so much, who might as well have made me rethink my outlook onlife, and who made me so happy over the past few days that i watched the show.
to see the way all the supporting characters’ perceptions towards koro-sensei changed over the course of the story is incredible and heartbreaking at the same time. i don’t know how this show could have ended better.
time to rewatch it i guess

Cover interview: Pia Movie Special 2020 Winter
Kiokuya: Synopsis
Kiokuya, translated as Memory Man or Memory Agent, is an urban legend about someone who can take away any memory you request. When university student Ryoichi proposed to his older girlfriend, Kyoko, it was the happiest day of his life. But the next day, he lost contact with Kyoko and when he found her again, she forgot everything about him. Devastated, he thought back to his childhood when Kiokuya may have erased his friend, Maki's memory too. With the help of Takahara, a lawyer and senpai, they looked for the mythical Kiokuya in an attempt to get back Kyoko's memories.
What if some memories are so horrible that they stopped someone from living? What becomes of a person when the memories are gone? What would you do for your loved ones?
* I'll translate the interviews later. Basically Yamada did so many interviews that covered similar grounds that I'll probably just do a master post.
Kiokuya movie review (from the article):
The movie "Kiokuya: Anata wo Wasurenai" (Memory Man: I won't forget you) is one that shows many sides. While the original novel is a fantasy horror, the movie has elements of suspense, love story, and human drama. Among this, it is also sometimes comical, and you may think it reminds you of something. Whether it's laughter and sadness, worries and fears - those are things that make up "life". There's nothing like a purely happy life or a purely unhappy life. There will be happy times and tough times, tears and joy. Going back to the movie, it is a story that talks about the way people are through the memories that were erased and what they wanted to erase. And speaking of life, [the movie] strikes at our hearts and once again let us realize that no matter who they are, each and every person has burdens they carry.
Yamada Ryosuke is the lead in this movie. Since he was playing a life-sized university student, Yamada may not appear too extraordinary. However, for the role of Ryoichi, he exuded a feeling that was unique to him*. That is the one thing that connects the 5 movies (including this one) where he played the lead role. Of course, this movie, style and role are different. It is different from the growth & change he showed in his character, Shiota Nagisa, in the two parter, "Ansatsu Kyoushitsu" and "Ansatsu Kyoushitsu: Sotsugyou Hen". But what is the commonality between these 5 movies? It is the nature of these roles; no matter which project, Yamada played someone who was seeking the truth, someone who was focused on his search. This movie is thus a story about the search for "Kiokuya" and the "memory that was erased". Looking back at his drama projects as well, you can see that he was a good fit with mysteries, and those are part of Yamada's qualities and charm. Within his gentleness is his capability and compassion, and above all, it is not unrelated to the charm of his beautiful eyes that projected his acceptance of the truth. He is an actor who is worth discovering and knowing the truth. Yamada Ryosuke also has such a side.
* The original text said it's "something that he can perform because he's Yamada". It sounds kinda clunky so I paraphrased it even though it's not quite the same.
