Some accessibility ideas I’ve had:

A collapsible box in the body of the post for image descriptions. It is first open by default, and the user can change that in settings.

Spoilering like on Discord, so that something in the middle of the post could be spoilered without having to spoiler everything after with it — especially when you need to spoiler something several times.

Community label for eyestrain (saw that a community label for flashing was already suggested, yay!!! I have. So many variations of flashing and eyestrain warnings in my filter)

Oh heck yeah, this is what I'm talking about! I love the image-spoiler feature on Discord so much! It makes it possible for people without sensitivities to post content and for me it's still safe to visit certain channels! I would love this on Tumblr! It would also be a great multi-purpose tool. The box thing sounds very good! Idk how well this works with screenreaders though, but a settings option to collapse them by default would be a great solution!!! V creative idea! Community label - for simplicity i think flashing + eyestrain should be one label. Wether it is called both, one or the other or something else, I don't care, but it should definitely be used for anything that may be triggering to photosensitive folks!!! I also have quite a few variations for flashing lights + eyestrain blocked, and I think a community label would make it easier to streamline tagging/moderating User Experience. @staff @wip If tumblr became a fantastic accessible plattform (and would also fix the issue for screenreaders + text formatting), it would positively stick out amongst all other social media platforms!

the thing i find most annoying about the whole ‘lack of support system’ thing, is that jonathan doesn’t really have a support system? like obviously joyce loves him, but she parentified him. he can’t confine in her or rely on her because he has to be there for her to rely on.

it would have been so easy to jonathan to be bitter about that, bitter about having to help raise his brother, and financially and emotionally support the entire household, but he never is.

so idk, i just find it weird to use that as an excuse for billy.

YES YES YES!! All of this! Like they just forget that Jonathan had no friends and had to take care of Will and Joyce. While also dealing with Lonnie’s own abusive ways. Also like Joyce says it herself that she relies on Jonathan a lot and that he has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders. So like it’s even more annoying that they just forget about this completely when it is in canon.

Yes!!! Like he could have been so bitter about all of this and yet he wasn’t. He wasn’t! And it’s so amazing! and yes like the whole support system thing that they use to excuse billy is sooo weird!! Like it just disregards everything about the main characters. And also it disregards max and Susan’s own experiences. Like they barely had any support system and yet I don’t hear them complaining about it.

You didn't mention a fic haha, but I will say I remain proud of all the detail in Love You in the Dark to this day!! I did a lot of research on the 1950s and prices of things etc...and yeah. It's one of my favourites i've written!

I'm so sorry that people are once again missing the point of your spiderverse posts. You do not deserve to be called mean things for pointing out the inherent ableism in the art direction of those films. Thanks for your posts!

Aww thank you for your kind words!!!! I will say, I usually do not put these posts out there, unless I am willing and able to deal with people like this. I understand feeling adverse and riled up by reading "fuck your favourite movie that has brought you a lot of joy" as part of the first sentence, but also I think the rest of my post was fairly nuanced given it's opening line. Fun fact: I will also admit... I woke up, saturday morning and had angry eyebrows and thought "I wanna start shit" and I was fully ready to just post "fuck spiderverse because it has ableist art direction" - but as always re-reading the post I figured adding nuance and context may be more helpful to the conversation... so honestly, I think the post is mostly a calm statement with an attention-seeking Opening line. Thank you again for your kind words and support! Maybe i should do these posts on LinkedIn instead of tumblr, in the hopes that anyone at Sony may actually see this... Rest assured - i am more amazed and amused by people threatening me over an opinion on art and what makes a good consumer oriented product.
