There are few things I hate more than "Jewish ally" anti-theists and atheists that spout complete bullshit about Judaism and our supposed beliefs as though they know better than we do what we believe. When we talk about cultural xtianity, this is the kind of shit we're talking about.
Tumblr media
"You might not believe in hell but most Jews do, my ex-xtian interpretation of your holy texts is correct despite thousands of years of information on the subject, here's a video telling you that you're wrong." Spent several posts calling non-religious people "freethinkers," and continuously dodged the question regarding the harm eliminating religion would do to so many cultures. Not to mention going from "I think the world is better without religion" to "you have an anti-xtian bias that I don't like" as though there's not a reason for that.
Ex-xtian atheists - you need to address and unlearn your xtian belief that your way is the only right way. That you are objectively correct and everyone else is just ignorant. That you know better than the religious minorities you are addressing. People like this want an excuse to talk down to religious minorities under the guise of polite language, and if you don't want to be associated with them, you have to put in the work to not be like this. I say this as an ex-Catholic, and a former anti-theist - do better.
If you are making objective assertions about someone else's religion that you have not studied and cannot answer basic questions about, you're not being critical of religion, you're being an atheist supremacist. If you pull a "gods are more harmful than helpful" like this person but cannot tell me the impact of Kali or Sàngó on their respective cultures, you are not being critical, you're ignorant and self-absorbed. If you have not studied religion, you do not know what you are talking about, and if you are only accepting xtian interpretations of other religions as true, even as a basis for hatred of religion, you're just a xtian with a new wallpaper.
If you are advocating for anti-theism, you are advocating for the cultural genocide of hundreds of different cultures around the world. If you are advocating for anti-theism, you are inherently anti-Jew. And if you are talking over Jews when they correct you on your blatant misunderstanding of our culture, only to call us *liars* when we counter your misconceptions, or call out your cherry-picked sources for why you know better than we do, you're not just an asshole, you're an Antisemite.
I took this conversation in good faith, hoping that the ignorance was born from misunderstanding instead of malice. I should not have been so kind. And if you're going to come onto this post and whine and cry about "not all atheists," or "cultural xtianity isn't real," save us both the time and block me. I'm done entertaining atheists that will not acknowledge that y'all don't know better than the religious minorities you are insulting by assuming we're all just blind sheep being lied to by some hierarchy that doesn't exist outside of certain religions. My partner is an atheist. I was for a long time, and I chose to return to religion on my own. I'm still an atheist, but I am also very religious. I'm the "smart Jew" that ex-xtians love to talk about; enlightened and no longer clinging to the supernatural. And I'm telling you that you're a fucking asshole and I associate more with the most spiritual Orthodox Jew than I ever would with someone who thinks atheism makes you superior.

The religion discourse in anarchism never changes, and you know what: it's getting old. There's so many anarchists who are so committed to that old slogan that was appropriated from a Blanquist of all people that they're absolutely confident that when anarchy is established they're gonna get rid of every form of religion there is, and these same types of anarchist always operate by the same Christian/Christian-ish or 19th century understanding of religion, which completely fails to deal with religions that aren't based on the idea that your continued existence after death depends on you following the correct religio-philosophical doctrine to the letter and worshipping one correct god. This problem especially applies when dealing with things like paganism, indigenous religions, and occult movements (and, by extension, any understanding of Satanism that does not conform to The Satanic Temple's neo-romanticist new atheism). Some anti-theists openly say that their answer to the general phenomenon of religion is to coercively proselytise against people who have any given religion: to harass, stigmatize, and even violently attack people in the hopes of getting them to leave their religions behind. They justify such behaviour on the grounds that "religion" is comparable to racism as a "false belief" and therefore inherently oppressive. Lo and behold, Soviet anti-religious campaigns are to be waged by anti-Soviets! Is there not a sweeter irony?
But the fact is, I am tired of the whole discourse on the internet, though I may keep making a lot of the same points I do, because damn it I am justified in doing so. Regardless, I say, let's just dispense with it all in favour one simple thing: I will not conform to your vision of reality by any means, and as far as anarchy is concerned, you can either respect that or I will fight you. We either understand each other on the subject, or we can't be "comrades". We're either on the same page, or we're probably going to be enemies. And if you have any illusions of us putting up wth any fantasies of violent proselytism towards us, you should reconsider them. And I very much mean to be an egoist/individualist about this. I find that's not particularly difficult through Stirner's philosophy. There will not be any complications in play, and the anti-theist who doesn't like this can simply get fucked. I am not interested in compromise here, and I am not interested in discourse with them.

reminder that anti-theism is not cool or edgy or progressive. being against religion in its entirety is not a good thing. you're allowed to be critical of religions, you're allowed to not like religions, you're obviously allowed to be atheist, but you CANNOT claim that religion as a whole is evil. religion is extremely human and natural, it's been around as long as humans have. I stand by Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, and countless others.
wanting to rid society of religion is genocide. anti-theism is racist, Indigenous discrimination, antisemitic, islamophobic, sinophobic, colonialist, and it blatantly goes against human rights. everyone have the right to think freely and subscribe to whichever beliefs they like, religious or not.
on this blog we support religious people, especially religious queers. I stand with you, and you are welcome in this community 💜

Weird question but are you an “We shall never know whether there is a God” athiest or “There is no God” athiest or “I AM YOUR GOD” athiest
also idk what an Antithiest is but I’m pretty sure I saw one yesterday being an ass :/
oh no weird questions here
and umm im more of a i dont think theres a god, its very unlikely that theres a god, even if there was a (or many) god none of the many many religions represent him (seeing how bad almost every religion is, its actually a good thing) . also if he is worth worshipping then hes never gonna demand it so worshipping is totally voluntary and if he demanding worship then hes not worth worshipping to begin with
tl;dr: no i dont know if theres a god, dont believe in one, and all religions are wrong, in any case worshippng and rituals should voluntary.
oh and theres assholes everywhere so dont mind him ig and also technically the mere existance of atheism is against most religions so you might be getting offended without him intending that, idk the convo so wont be able to tell. i mean, no offence, but me saying there is no god is offensive enough that atheism is punishable by death in 10-11 countries

Friendly reminder that if you believe there is only one right thing to believe in regards to faith and religion, and all the other beliefs are stupid, ill-informed, cults, immature, etc., you are operating under evangelical rhetoric.
This goes for anti-theists, exvangelicals who are trying to "rescue" others from the church, actual Christian Evangelicals, or anyone else who is actively trying to get other people to align their beliefs with their own.
So remember, kids. It's not okay to tell other people what to and what not to believe. Just because you don't find value in religion, or were harmed by religion, doesn't mean others don't or weren't. Your experiences are not universal.

Kind of hate that any post criticizing Evangelical Christianity attracts the annoying anti-theists. We can criticize some harmful spiritualities and religions without treating every belief as such.

No, religion is not fascist in nature. The anti-theist who told you that it was is just a fuckin idiot that does not know history and does not know how religion works.
However, anti-theism is fascist and authoritarian in nature.

TST co-owner "Lucien Greaves" on burning down churches (and temples) plus why we should nuke the "Holy Land"
Via The.Satanic.Wiki
On Sept. 11, 2003, future co-owner of The Satanic Temple Doug “Lucien Greaves” Misicko, his friend and collaborator Shane Bugbee, and Shane Bugbee’s wife Amy Stocky hosted a 24-hour Internet radio stream with guests and callers to mark the release of their new edition of the proto-fascist manifesto Might Is Right. The following year, Doug Misicko continued to appear on Internet radio streams with Shane and Amy. “The ABCs of the Alphabet” was one such program. This is an excerpt from one of those recordings.
CW: antisemitism, islamophobia, violent anti-theism
Full transcript:
08:27 Amy Bugbee
Well, it's just the same thing. Both of them are using parts of Might Is Right to try to get their way, you know?
08:35 Doug Misicko
It's ignorant. And I have respect for ancient history and archaeology, but I would say make the fucking "Holy Land" to crater, a radioactive waste, and then tell them, "Go to town. It's all yours. All you assholes." Fuck it. Solomon's Temple? Who gives a shit. It's just it's gone too fucking far. It's gone too fucking far.
08:56 Amy Bugbee
Exactly. Fence off the whole country, and it can only be for tourists, you know, no one can live there or something.
09:01 Doug Misicko
Yeah, free zone, UN, whatever. Martial Law! No- none of those assholes should be there. If people really are- have some orthodox religion they shouldn't even be allowed close. They should be taken as terrorists to begin with. (Amy Bugbee: Exactly.) Churches- churches are terrorist organizations. They're fucking terrorist organizations perpetuating this idea of a lease on a land written on ancient holy document, and it's stupid.
09:27 Shane Bugbee
Ignite the church.
09:30 Doug Misicko
Yeah.
09:31 Amy Bugbee
We need to ignite some churches.

I love it when people say religion is the problem because of Christianity or Islam and then I start making fun of it and then all people can say is "YOU'RE A SATANIST AND A PAGAN UNIRONICALLY!!??!!??"
Yes, yes I am.
😎
And I am never going to forsake my path if I can help it.

George W. Bush says he speaks to god every day, and christians love him for it. If George W. Bush said he spoke to god through his hair dryer, they would think he was mad. I fail to see how the addition of a hair dryer makes it any more absurd.

This is something I've written about before, but it's on my mind again.
Why is it so triggering for some that there are people who believe in an afterlife. Like, I get for some people, it's better not to believe because of religious trauma and the version of an afterlife they were brought up to believe in. But to get upset that other people believe in a different version is weird to me.
I believe that non-belief is fine and valid. There are those who cannot believe in anything without definitive proof and that's okay. Some of us are able to believe based on faith alone. Some of us have had experiences that we interpret as our own personal proof to validate our beliefs. As long as it brings no harm to ourselves or anyone else, I really don't think it's anyone's business.
I really just don't understand what is in it for someone to rain on the parade of someone who finds comfort in the possibility of an afterlife. For some of us, it helps with grief. I find comfort in talking to my mom and other passed loved ones when I feel the need for their guidance and I don't understand how that hurts anyone.
And as I've said in other posts, I've also made peace with the possibility I can be wrong and there's nothing after death. And I was able to do this by realizing that if my consciousness doesn't survive after I die, there will be no sadness or disappointment because I won't be able to feel anything.
So, yeah...I kind of just don't get how someone with an anti-theist mindset thinks they're helping anyone by trying to convince people that their religion, spirituality, and/or belief in an afterlife is harmful.

Secular Syntheism (and my hopelessness)
New post today! I define secular syntheism and meditate on why I became a Terran.
There are options for those who are not interested in religion. One of them is secular syntheism; the belief that gods are made up and you, personally, are fine without them. Since I worship a god, I am not a secular syntheist. However, I believe that a healthy and modern religion should be capable of understanding the secular space and respecting it. Not everyone needs religion after all.…
