April 2021: oh lol grian's the guy who made the new game and also the first guy to kill someone that's so on brand
February 2024, several betrayals, hours worth of lore and 5 whole fucking seasons later: grian joined this twisted game to protect his friends from horrors they could never comprehend, to bring them joy in a world where suffering and grief was inevitable, and yet he's the first to stain his hands with blood. Was he horrified of himself? A joke to bring laughter only brought fresh blood splattered across his face and gunpowder in the air. Were the watchers delighted? Smug? That the foolish one who dared defy them brought them this violent meal? Do you think when he kneeled before scar and swore lifelong loyalty, there was this incomprehensible regret in his eyes? Why so sorry? It's just a prank. Lighten up a little. And he laughs. And when scar towed him away on the back of a llama, do you think he looked down at his bloody hands, and feared above all else, himself?

Ignoring that it's almost 4 AM for me, it's so funny thinking about how me from a year ago, two years ago, and definitely three years ago would've felt about the latter sentence here.
Me from a year ago and two years ago would've been shocked that I'm just casually mentioning my lesbianism in an assignment while me from three years ago would be more shocked by the fact that I'm a lesbian LMAO.

Are you supposed to remember the dates of your depressive episodes? I have had three distinct ones as an adult and I know when they started and when I realised they'd ended. I dunno, I find that so weird.

Only one date is ever mentioned in-game, that being 2021. Considering that the Virtual Singer Fan Festa seems to be a stand-in for Magical Mirai 2021, we can assume that the Scramble Fan FESTA! event takes place in September 2021 (the real-life MM2021 was delayed to November due to covid-19, but the pandemic doesn't exist in-universe and MM Tokyo usually takes place at the beginning of September). There are Leo/need Daily Life social media posts that show them attending Magical Mirai, and do state the year of the event, but these can be considered promotional material for the event itself rather than canon material, especially since the characters address in-game that only one year has passed since the start of the story (despite the fact they have celebrated new year's day 4 times now. Timeloop things).
Based on this date, we can actually place exactly when every main character was born. The cutoff date for Japanese schools is April 1st, making Ena the oldest main character, being a 3rd year with a birthday of April 30th, followed by Tsukasa on May 17th, so on so forth all the way down to Kohane, a 2nd year with a birthday of March 2nd.
Considering when Scramble Fan FESTA is set, Ena, who was a 2nd year at the time, would be 17 years old. That would place her date of birth as April 30th, 2004. Additionally, while Kohane, a first year at the time, should be 15 during the event, the game considers her to be 16 due to using a set age for every grade bracket. Regardless, the event setting places her date of birth as March 2nd, 2006.
Based on this, we can conclude that:
Ena, Tsukasa, Rui, and Shizuku were born in 2004
Mafuyu, Kanade, Airi, Minori, Saki, Toya, Nene, An, Ichika, Mizuki, Emu, Haruka, Honami, and Akito were born in 2005
Shiho and Kohane were born in 2006
This also means that Ena, Tsukasa and Rui are all older than the MEIKO software (released November 5th 2004), and everyone except Kohane is older than the KAITO software (released February 17th 2006). Every main character is older than Miku, the Kagamines, and Luka based on this information.
Using the information around set ages*, we can also work out rough estimates for when the side characters were born. For example, Arata, who was 19 during the first 3 years of the game, is 3 years older than the members of VBS who were all considered to be 16. Since the members of VBS were born in the April 2005 - April 2006 school year range, Arata was likely born in the 2002-2003 school year range.
* based on how characters like Youta and Miu, who are said to be the same age as Leo/need, were both confirmed to be 16 years old before the 3rd anniversary age-up. Also Haruka's age is confirmed as 16 at a point in time when she shouldn't be 16. Timeloop things.
Based on this, the oldest living side character, Kounosuke, who was 55 pre-3rd anniversary and 39 years older than Emu, was probably born between April 1966 and April 1st 1967. On the younger side of things, Hanano, who was 14 pre-3rd anni, was likely born between April of 2007 and 2008. I've put the rest of the estimated side character DOBs under the cut.
assumed age as of 3rd anniversary in brackets (literally just pre-age-up age + 1)
Rakunosuke Otori - April 2nd 1922 ~ April 1st 1923 (98 (at time of death. would be 100 if still alive))
Iori - 2002~2003 (20)
Mio - 2002~2003 (20)
Nanami "Nanamin" Hayakawa - 2004~2005 (18)
Mai - 2006~2007 (16)
Hanano Yoshizaki - 2007~2008 (15)
Additional notes (mod is rambling atp):
Rakunosuke died when he was 98 years old. In the WxS main story, Emu says that he died a year ago. Assuming Emu was 15 at the time, they have an age gap of around 83 years. The year of birth listed here was based on that assumption.
We know that Kanade's mother died aged 30, but we do not know when she died. She is still alive in flashbacks set roughly 10 years prior to the events of game.
We do not have confirmed ages for Shindou, Arisa, Nagi, Reki, Mafuyu's parents, and Yuuki (Mizuki's sister) yet.
Considering Arisa was in a group with Shizuku, they are probably somewhat close in age. Obviously idol groups can have age ranges of several years, but Arisa's design is also closer to that of the MC designs, so she's likely somewhere around her late teens.
Yuuki left for university when Mizuki was 15, making her at least 3 years older than Mizuki. Next to the Unchanging Warmth suggests that it's a bigger gap than that.
Rui says that Asahi is the same age as him and Sakurako in A Story Where You Are the Star. Unless a fanbook eventually confirms otherwise, he is 18.
Rui also suggests that Reki is the same age as him in A Story Where You Are The Star. However since it's more vague than Asahi, I left it out. For now at least. I might come back and edit this at a later date, because he does use the same general character design as the teenagers too.
Nagi's age is left blank in the fanbook due to it not being revealed that she was dead at the time of publication. She is younger than Taiga, but we don't know by how much, but nonetheless she was likely born in the early 1980s.
No NPCs are given exact birthdays

Nonbinary Autobiographical Manga 'X-Gender' Released in English
Tumblr media
The first volume of Asuka Miyazaki's manga X-Gender (Seibetsu X) was released in English digitally and in paperback on Tuesday, June 14. Miyazaki identifies as x-gender, the Japanese gender identity similar to non-binary. The manga is an autobiographical story detailing their experience and struggles with sexuality and gender.
Tumblr media
The publisher describes the manga:
Asuka is neither a woman nor a man—they’re X-gender (a non-binary identity)—and they’ve realized they like women! Okay, now what? Adult films are fun to watch, but real sex is less appealing. Would having a penis make that better or worse? Periods already suck, and sex means more fluids from more people! This autobiographical manga follows Asuka’s feelings about their body, their relationships, and the fun (and sometimes terrible) experience of having an awakening in their thirties.
Tumblr media
The manga includes open discussions about sex, sexuality, and gender, and unlike most Yuri or BL fiction titles, it centers on and explicitly names LGBTQ+ identities. Small sections of the manga are devoted to teaching the reader about queer identities and culture, for example, it defines lesbians and the roles of a "top" and "bottom."
Tumblr media
X-Gender was serialized in Young Magazine the 3rd from 2020 until the magazine was discontinued in April of 2021. Afterward, the series was released on Comic Days until its conclusion in November 2021. Kodansha publishes the series in two volumes in Japanese.
Kathryn Henzler translates the first volume of X-Gender for Seven Seas, with adaptation by Cae Hawksmoor, and lettering by Vanessa Satone.
Tumblr media
You can check out the first volume of X-Gender today in paperback and digitally: https://amzn.to/3mSSPdN

《My Fairy Tail Fanart Collection! (Pt.3)》
May 2021
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We skip from March to May! I was pretty busy on April so I didn't draw anything (I remember it was junior high graduation exams back then). So I pretty much went ham on May xD.
Zervis is THE best. If it wasn't for NaLu they'd be my top 1 ship. The 100YQ Beta Heaven chapter gave me LIFE.
There's that one Jerza art I made as a DTIYS entry @/cagysole16 on Instagram! Jerza is my 3rd favorite ship after NaLu and ZerVis.
It's interesting but expected to see some different coloring styles here, I've always loved experimenting. I should do that more actually...

All i know is the Season 9 of Hermitcraft, hc x dsmp crossover and Tilly do us apart. The rest you mention is foreign to me. So yeah and also I agreed that no person should see the entirety of dsmp history. Like damn... many things have occur in a short period of time?!
Glad you've asked! Here is a list of things part of mcyt history that has happened in the last 4 years:
Hermitcraft season 7 will be 4 years old in a month (February 2020)
The dsmp will be 4 too in a few months (April 2020)
Dream SMP War by Sadist, the video that caused one of the largest surges of popularity for the dsmp, turns 4 in August
Doomsday celebrated it's 3rd anniversary about a week ago (6th January 2021)
Yes. Almost ALL of the dsmp story up to that point happened within the span of about 5 months. From the VERY BEGINNING OF THE DISC SAGA TO THE TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF LMANBURG. It all took place from July to early January. What the fuck.
3rd life will be turning 3 in April (April 2021)
Penismp turns 3 in May. I cannot stress this enough. Remember the fake smp that predated goncharov BY A FUCKING YEAR AND A HALF and trended 3rd on Tumblr for 2 days straight??? That was almost 3 years ago now.
The surge of popularity for Passerine happens around May of 2021, following Sadist's animation Sunsprite's Eulogy
Empires season 1 will be 3 years old in June
Hermitcraft season 8 will also be 3 in June (exactly one week apart! Esmp started on 12th June while hcs8 started on the 19th)
Yes, you heard it right, the life series and empires predate season 8! Pearl and Gem became hermits roughly a week AFTER the cactus ring.
June 2021 is ALSO the month where MCC Pride 2021 took place. Y'know, the one with Wilbur's office on fire and technoblade getting nicknamed Tech by grian. THIS IS ALSO turning 3 this year. June 2021 was a wild month.
Techno's escape from prison will be 3 years old this year too. September fucking 2021. It's been 3 years since this happened.
The canary's curse has been a concept in the fandom for a little over 2 years now, following jimmy's final death in last life (early November 2021)
Moon Big also occurred around this time frame, which means it's turning 3 this year!
Mangoball becomes a dsmp fandom staple around early December 2021
The 2 year anniversary of @/chrisrin's curses last life animation is in 2 days! (16th January 2022)
Following the end of empires season 1, hermitcraft season 8 and the lore drought of the dsmp, this is where the big Content Drought of 2022 happens. This is where dreamempirescraft became a thing. This is also where that drawing came from.
Hermitcraft season 9 will also be 2 soon (March 2022). Longest season, everyone.
Double life is currently a year and a half old! (June 2022) Every mention of tilly, pearl being the devil, the scarlet pearl, something wicked this way comes, ALL of it, came from a year and a half ago
Yes, this means that season 9 saw the beginning and end of not one, not two, but THREE seasons of the life series. Longest season, everyone.
Speaking of longest season, anyone remember the esmp crossover? This will also turn 2 this year (November 2022)
Qsmp is about to turn a year old soon! This is less of a fact to make you feel old but a fact that makes you think "ALL THAT IN LESS THAN A YEAR?????", and you'd be right! What the fuck! How did this all happen in less than a year!

Yoshihiro Togashi Handwritten Letter
Togashi sent a handwritten letter to the idol Yumiko Seki, answering 11 questions. The letter was read aloud in the Iwakura and Yoshizumi's Show, on TV Asahi, on November 14th and 21st, 2023.
There's already a translation of the Q&A by the hunter fandom (please read it), but I want to share my favorite parts and maybe some interesting info that was said during the TV program. You can watch the full version on bilibili. The whole film studio was decorated with Hunter x Hunter manuscripts and figures, and BGM from both versions of the anime was played during the broadcast.
The MCs of the show are two female comedians, Yoshizumi and Iwakura. The guests were Yumiko Seki (former Sakurazaka46); singer Toshiya Miyata (Kis-My-Ft2), a huge Hunter x Hunter fan; and the comedian Shintaro Morimoto (TONTSUKATAN) who read Togashi's letter and served as moderator.
At the beginning of the show, Seki-san revealed she met Togashi in a Sakurazaka46 live concert.
Tumblr media
Everyone was shocked to learn she met him face-to-face!
Tumblr media
Then, Seki-san showed an autographed shikishi Togashi-sensei gave her when she graduated from Sakurazaka46. (T/N: She announced her graduation on December 13, 2022, and graduated on April 30, 2023 at the Sakurazaka46 3rd TOUR 2023).
Tumblr media
Killua: "Graduation is the starting line!!"
It's interesting to add that Killua is Seki's favorite character and orange & white were her penlight colors, also her favorite colors. That's why Togashi drew Killua holding a bouquet of orange and white flowers.
Miyata joked that he will make sure that everyone knows he loves Hunter x Hunter by the time he graduates from Kis-My-Ft2 boy band. Morimoto told him "don't graduate just to get a shikishi" (LOL).
Tumblr media
By the way, Miyata loves Kurapika, so I hope Togashi gives him a Kurapika shikishi one day :P
Here's Togashi's huge letter!
Tumblr media
Before reading sensei's answers, they anticipated the huge success of the show, and came up with the hashtag #冨樫先生からのお手紙 (letter from Togashi-sensei).
Tumblr media
It was a success indeed, trending all over social media.
Then, Morimoto started to read the Q&A.
The second question was about the Hunter x Hunter character setting. Before reading the answer, they showed a Togashi's memo containing a detailed timeline of each character that he uses in order to develop the story without creating any contradictions. There's a timeline of the Chimera Ant Arc, and a table of the princes' entourage, allowing Togashi to distinguish them. He even drew characters that didn't appear.
Tumblr media
Miyata left his seat and came closer to the monitor, so he could see the memo better. He's a crazy HxH stan just like us.
Tumblr media
This material is actually from Jump Ryu's booklet (2016). You can also watch the Jump Ryu video with subs on YouTube, where Togashi explains better how this character table works.
Here's the part of the answer Togashi talks about Killua's inspirations. I am a huge fan of MDP Psycho!
Tumblr media
The author of "Toy-y", Atsushi Kamijo, thanked Togashi on his Twitter. He also wrote that he loves Level-E.
Tumblr media
When answering question 4, we found out Togashi-sensei watched Sakurazaka46 New Year's special feature in 2021, when Seki-san asked for the complete set of Hunter × Hunter.
youtube
But, because Togashi-sensei is such an introvert, he thought he would make her feel uncomfortable by actually sending it. It took him two years to finally decide to send it.
Miyata laughed so hard, saying: "Togashi-sensei is such an otaku!!" (LOL)
Tumblr media
Seki-san confirmed Togashi really sent the Hunter × Hunter set to her ^^
Tumblr media
The 5th question was about Togashi's favorite nen ability. Seki-san and Miyata also shared their favorite type of nen.
Seki-san loves Killua, thus she likes transmutation. She also likes Hisoka's analysis about nen, and thinks Killua fits his description about transmuters perfectly.
As for Miyata, he loves Kurapika, therefore he likes the conjurer type. He remembered that in order to conjurer chains, Kurapika had to imagine, touch, draw, and even licked real chains.
Tumblr media
He was curious if Goreinu, a character that appears in Greed Island, had to do something similar and touch gorillas in order to be able to materialize them.
Tumblr media
Miyata is a crazy HxH fan, he came up with many curious tidbits and did a deep analysis of the series. It's not confirmed in the manga or any databook if Goreinu is really a conjurer, but I really liked his point of view.
Question 7 about Meruem's final moments was really touching. After hearing Miyata's explanation about Meruem and Kogumi, Iwakura almost started crying.
Tumblr media
Tears rolled down her cheeks when she saw the double spread of Meruem's final moments.
Tumblr media
The funny thing is, at the beginning of the show, she told us she had only read the first chapter.
Tumblr media
So, Morimoto joked: "Why did you have to stop at volume 1!!?" XD
Tumblr media
Morimoto also revealed that Togashi-sensei's favorite scene is Meruem and Kogumi double spread.
Tumblr media
Question 8, what does Togashi do on his days off? Morimoto asked Seki-san's opinion. She imagines Togashi having mandarin oranges on a kotatsu table, and talking to cats on the porch.
T/N: Eating oranges while sitting around a kotatsu table is a japanese tradition during the winter.
Tumblr media
Togashi didn't mention anything like that in his answer, but there's an interview with Naoko Takeuchi (WITH magazine, May 2022) where she says, "We have been married for over 20 years. Although we have small fights sometimes, my husband is extremely kind and quiet, like a hermit (...) The house we have lived for 20 years is also a place of healing. Sometimes we have meals or tea in the garden". So, I can totally picture Togashi-sensei eating oranges in the winter and talking to cats.
Togashi-sensei stated he is the type of person who always has sound playing while he is working, just like Yoshizumi-san. She was happy she was acknowledged in his letter!
Tumblr media
The question 9 was about manga that Togashi-sensei found interesting recently. Miyata remembered that Togashi had wrote a recommendation on the obi of Kimestu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) volume 4, praising the series. I had completely forgotten Togashi loves Demon Slayer!
Tumblr media
In his letter, Togashi-sensei wrote he couldn't give the name of the series he's currently into, since he would get criticized. But he left some clues. Yoshimizu said the crazy amount of ッッッ (small tsu) used in his answer was maybe a keyword, and that the fans would probably figure it out. She had no idea what manga he was talking about, though.
Tumblr media
Togashi-sensei also wrote this manga is a true story published in 2023. So, many fans came up with the Autobiography of Keisuke Itagaki (author of Grappler Baki): an autobiographical manga depicting the harsh life experienced by Keisuke Itagaki in the "JGSDF 1st Airborne Brigade" that consumed his youth!
I started reading it, and the author really loves to use "ッッッ" at the end of the sentences. I don't think it's the kind of content I would recommend to an idol like Seki-san. Anyway, I don't know whether that's the correct answer or not, but it seems so.
The manga that Togashi-sensei ended up recommending was "Oi! Tombo". It has been serialized in Weekly Golf Digest since 2014. An anime is also scheduled to premiere in 2024. I was happy to see that the Golf Digest X Account mentioned his letter!
Tumblr media
Seki-san was introduced to an unexpected golf manga, but she immediately became interested, saying, "I really want to read it'' and "I want to buy it right away.'' I guess we all felt that way. I'm definitely watching the anime!
The 10th question was about the ending! The reaction of the guests and MCs when Morimoto read there's an Ending D in case Togashi-sensei dies was priceless.
Tumblr media
Before Morimoto could read the "Ending D", Miyata recalled he went to watch the Hunter × Hunter movie "Phantom Rouge", and received a copy of Volume 0. He grabbed it, and showed the Q&A with Togashi-sensei, highlighting Question 4: What will end up happening to Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe? A: "They will all die."
Tumblr media
He was really looking forward to knowing the ending of Hunter × Hunter, but not this one (LOL). Morimoto and Miyata were too nervous, they took a sip to calm down before reading the "Ending D Pattern".
Tumblr media
The final question was about the amount of text in volume 37. Miyata commenting that his answer also had an incredible amount of text made me laugh so hard. It was a huge answer indeed.
Togashi's last words were:
"Words are da best!" (Words rule/Nothing can beat words/Only words wins/ whatever sounds better in english).
Tumblr media
Everyone laughed so hard, because this is actually a slang used by young people or fandom to say someone or something is the best. He wrote the letter in polite japanese, it was fun he ended it with a slang. By the way, Togashi-sensei loves slang, specially fandom unique vocabulary, as he usually uses it Hunter x Hunter. He's a fan of Keyakizaka46/Sakurazaka46 after all.
Miyata was excited to hear that Togashi-sensei himself is "bugged", which makes him want to continue reading HxH even more. One thing that caught Miyata's attention during this final question was the part Togashi-sensei mentioned he needs to settle many issues during the voyage of the Black Whale ship. Actually, the word "settlement" (解決) captured the attention of many fans, as they posted a lot about that on social media.
Miyata thought about people on board the ship whose fates needs a resolution. He wondered if this was about Kurapika and The Phantom Troupe since the conditions to what Togashi-sensei said in volume 0 (everyone's gonna die) are right there to happen soon.
He showed his Volume 0 again. LOL, I hope Togashi-sensei was just joking.
Tumblr media
Of course, let's not forget that are many other unfinished business that needs a solution in this arc, we have a whole succession to the throne war in motion. But, Miyata was really hyped about Kurapika and volume 0.
The show ended with a big thanks and bow to Togashi-sensei!
Miyata said he has been reading HxH for more than 20 years, since he was in elementary school. No matter how old he is, he still gets excited about it! He loves Hunter × Hunter!
Morimoto asked Seki-san to say some final words to Togashi-sensei. Besides showing all her love for Hunter × Hunter, Seki-san was really cute and asked Togashi-sensei to take really good care of his health!
Tumblr media
That's it, sorry for being like Togashi-sensei and writing too much. Although my posts are more about Yu Yu Haksuho, I feel I needed to address his letter too. I didn't take the Ending D too serious, since it was discarded. However, I think it was a cute closing to HxH. Like Miyata-said, everything went back to the beginning, The Whale Island where it all started.
I just want Togashi-sensei to live long and write his favorite ending!
There were other interesting parts, like Seki-san telling Togashi-sensei to make a DVD BOX of the TV show. In the end, everyone wanted to make one ^^ (me too). It is a really precious letter. I hope Seki-san frames it and make an altar :P
Thank you very much, Togashi-sensei!

Okay, I feel like I should chime in on the whole "free Dr. Ratio, Genshin could never" thing going on.
I admit, as a long time Genshin player, I do feel like Hoyo has been neglecting us in terms of rewards.
And I know what many people say: "oh, you guys got Aloy for free, so you shouldn't be complaining." Okay, let's just sit down and logic this shit out.
Aloy was given to us as a collab between Genshin and Horizon Zero Dawn. She wasn't really what you would consider a reward. It was planned out from the very beginning to get Genshin players to try Horizon.
Aloy was a one time thing. Dr. Ratio is a limited banner 5 star. Once the Horizon collab is over, you will never, ever, see or hear from Aloy again. Meanwhile, Dr. Ratio will keep coming back every now and then for his rerun.
HSR hasn't even been out for a year. Aloy was released around Genshin's first anniversary. Star Rail was released in late April, it hasn't even been 8 full months yet.
Genshin has won plenty of awards before. Sometimes multiple at once. Don't you guys remember when Genshin practically swept the Game Awards back in 2021? And we only got like 10 pulls for winning multiple categories. Dr. Ratio was given in response to HSR winning Best Mobile Game at the GA, as well as Google Play Store and Apple Store Best Game.
Honkai Impact 3rd has given out multiple S-Rank (5 star) characters before and since this whole Dr. Ratio thing. I should know, I got Herrscher of Origin when she first released simply by playing a story chapter. And since they've done this kind of event multiple times. Just last patch all you had to do was log in for three days and you'd get a choice between one of two 5 stars. And there's currently another such event going (although this time you don't get to choose whoever you want).
Genshin has more than enough resources to give players a free 5 star and I'm tired them going the bare fucking minimum.

To be fair it's not like it'd be new for a life series to start so soon after another ended. While the time has been longer between each series after that (around 6 to 9 months), there's a precedent for it taking very few months between the start (and end) of 3rd Life and the beginning of Last Life.
3rd life started on April 21st 2021 and ended on June 8th 2021 ↓

Last Life started on September 21st 2021, about three month after 3rd life ended.

Having presented all this, I do think it's an April's Fool day thing lmao
