H’ai
ABOUT FIVE OR SIX YEARS AGO
I was back home on a family visit. Summers in New York get suffocating, so I got into the habit of spending most of them in Palestine.
One early morning, while I was in a state between sleeping and waking - later I would learn that this phenomena has been scientifically termed “hypnopompic state” - I saw him standing on the edge of my bed: a tiny little boy of 4 or 5 years old, about 10 CM long (a little over 4 inches) with wavy brown curls and big brown eyes! He seemed to be looking at me as if in a state of wonder, and his eyes kept getting larger and larger. Expressionless really, but not unfriendly. The dream must have continued for a few seconds before I woke up with a very agreeable feeling. However, not intrigued enough, I rushed to a lazy conclusion that it was most likely my appreciation for "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry that unconsciously concocted this whole surrealistic vision. So I brushed it off and went about my day.
FAST FORWARD FOUR OR FIVE YEARS (During which I didn’t give the vision any serious thoughts)
Excerpts from my diary: August, Summer of 2022 The city of Hammamat, Tunisia
Entry 1. 8/1: I arrived at the studio today. There were a group of men standing at the entrance. I didn’t recognize any of them except the line producer whom I recognized from his profile photo on whatsapp. The strangest thing happened! Upon seeing me entering, he said, "here comes the spy". Huh? If that was a joke, it was shockingly bizarre. And if it wasn’t, I am very confused.
I was supposed to have a fitting at 4pm. I waited in a dusty fitting room smelling a mixture of mole and sewage. The fitting ladies have left their lunch boxes uncovered so flies were swarming everywhere. The costume designer didn’t show up. Neither did her associates. I left.
Entry 2. 8/2: I had my first session with the sword trainer this morning. He didn’t speak a word of English or Arabic.  He only spoke Spanish and had a cigarette in his mouth the entire time. The session, according to the training schedule, was supposed to be a full hour solely with me. Instead, we mimed our way through for 15 minutes with the presence of another actor, a young kid of 16 or 17 who kept his sunglasses all the time and barely said hi. I am supposed to start shooting in a week or so.
Entry 3. 8/3: I had a fitting today and I like the costumes. They look good on me. I bumped into the director today. We exchanged hello and I expressed my enthusiasm, an interaction of 7 seconds in total. Weather is unbearably hot.
Entry 4. 8/4: Line producer called me yesterday at 10pm. I was in bed. He mumbled something about the horse trainer sending a report against me, saying I can’t ride a horse! Huh? What horse trainer? I haven’t seen him! He must have mistaken me with someone else. He said no, he sent him my picture! I said I have shot an entire movie for 3 months and a half riding a horse, having had trained intensively for 7 months prior to that. What is he talking about? Line producer kept making this weird sound: ha’m h’am. What the hell was that? Was he actually listening to me? I think he is either clinically retarded or has serious concentration issues. Where am I? Who are these people?
Entry 5. 8/5: Over breakfast, I met one of the actors on the show. He said, "the staff of the hotel love you… those are the people that count - the real people - Don't mind what others say." What others say!!!! What did he mean by that! I wish he didn't say that because now I will be walking and looking behind my back!
Entry 6. 8/6: this production is a disaster. I have to get things done, and do my work to the best of my abilities despite of this chaos.   These are things that are way beyond my control. I am not responsible for teaching people how to follow a protocol. Or how to be decent human beings.
Entry 7. 8/7: We haven't had any rehearsal or meeting with the director yet. They told me he doesn't want to rehearse or meet! How strange! I see him at the gym from time to time. He is on his phone the entire time. We exchange hellos! He actually knows I'm one of the main actors of his show, the one he is supposed to direct, but he doesn't seem very interested in meeting me. What is going on? Who IS this guy?
Entry 8. 8/8: I can’t have this food anymore. I am going to get sick. From now on my dinner will be my lunch.
Entry 9. 8/9: colleagues who were friendly to me are now cold. Barely saying hi. I am so confused.  Why is this happening to me?  What is happening?  I miss Cynthia.
Entry 10. 8/10: They cancelled my shooting days again. I can't take it anymore.
Entry 11. 8/11: I miss Cynthia so much.
Entry 12. 8/12: First day of shoot was supposed to happen today. I waited 8 hours on set today at the end of which the 3rd AD came and said I can go home because we are not shooting.
I want to quit this show.
Entry 13. 8/13: At breakfast one of the actors told me the main actor left the show, and they are restarting everything. I am shocked.
I  called my father, told him what happened and said “I want to leave this show” . He said no I should stick around. It’ll be good for my career and I have to do my work professionally.  He seemed preoccupied so I let him go.  My anxiety is sky rocketing.
Entry 14. 8/14: shoot’s been delayed for another 5 days.  It’s been two weeks and I can’t stand it. It is grueling.  But I am here for work and I am a professional actor.  Repeat after me Adam: It’s going to be okay.
Entry 15. 8/15: first shooting day. Director doesn’t show up to set?  How is that possible?
Entry 16. 8/16: I need to pick up my colors again.  Either that or I seriously get sick here.
AND I DID
I had watched a course on Domestika where the artist suggests the idea of writing down one's needs at the moment in time prior to creating a painting. So I followed his suggestion! The first thought I wrote was “I need a friend”. Then as I began to put my thoughts onto the paper, sketching out each detail and curve, something magical started to happen. The lines and shapes effortlessly took on a life of their own, gradually forming into the image of a little boy. And then, as I looked at the finished drawing, it hit me like a bolt of lightning - this was the same child who had appeared in my dream years ago! He was there all along! He never left my subconscious! All I had to do was bring him to the surface. With every stroke of my pencil, I felt as though I was breathing life into this new friend, watching him come alive on the page before me.
Upon finishing up the first sketch I caught myself uttering the word “Kh’ai” … it’s a sound that Lebanese people use to express a feeling of relief or release… My wife uses it often. Holding the pen, I looked at the character and said he is H’ai with an H sound, not a KH.
H’ai is an Arabic word which means alive, thriving, breathing or animated.
I did end up leaving the show, or “forced to leave”, but thanks to H’ai, I was able to keep my peace and sanity through that awful time! Creating tens and tens of sketches and drawings that continue to this day! H’ai became not only a friend but a guide, a channel through which I connect to the Source of all things - the omnipresent - from which I draw upon images of beauty and wisdom. Drawing H’ai has become one of my most spiritual practices, akin to a meditation... a sacred ritual, healing, and divine.
Darkness IS the absence of Light. But the concept of light cannot exist without its opposite. So yes, it goes without saying, I am forever grateful for the darkness that allowed H’ai to be manifested. To emerge as a beacon of Light…

Endometriosis: What is it? What are the symptoms of endometriosis in elderly women? Be a part of the 14IHNPUCG and learn from our professionals.
Tumblr media
What is endometriosis, exactly?
The disorder known as endometriosis causes tissue that looks like uterine lining to develop outside of the uterus. It may worsen pelvic pain and make getting pregnant more challenging. The onset of endometriosis can occur during the first menstruation and continue past menopause.
Endometriosis causes tissue that resembles the uterine lining to proliferate outside of the uterus. In the pelvic region and (sometimes) other sections of the body, this results in swelling and the production of scar tissue.
Nobody knows what causes endometriosis. There is no known technique to avoid endometriosis. Although there is no cure, the symptoms can be treated with drugs or, in some cases, surgery.
The continuous inflammatory response it causes may cause the pelvis and other regions of the body to form scar tissue (adhesions, fibrosis). There are many distinct forms of lesions:
The pelvic peritoneum is a typical site for superficial endometriosis.
Cystic ovarian endometriosis, also known as endometrioma, was found in the ovaries.
Rarely, deep endometriosis has been identified in the bladder, colon, and recto-vaginal septum in addition to the pelvis.
A gathering to discuss the most recent studies and trends with unique perspectives and speakers from around the world. Older women with endometriosis
Endometriosis is a gynaecological condition that affects millions of people worldwide and causes excessive monthly bleeding, infertility, and ongoing pelvic pain. Elderly women can develop endometriosis, which is usually diagnosed in women of reproductive age.
Endometriosis is a painful condition in which tissue that resembles the lining of the uterus grows in other pelvic organs, such as the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and other pelvic structures. The tissue responds to the hormonal changes of the menstrual cycle in a manner similar to the tissue inside the uterus, causing inflammation, pain, and the formation of scar tissue.
As women get older and near menopause, their oestrogen levels fall, which may result in a reduction of endometriosis symptoms. However, some women may continue to experience endometriosis long beyond menopause. Studies suggest that up to 5% of women over 60 may have endometriosis.
One reason why endometriosis can still affect older women is the potential that the tissue has already spread to other body parts, such as the intestines or bladder. In addition, Hormone Replacement Treatment (HRT) may cause endometriosis flare-ups in women who have already received a diagnosis.
Even though the endometriosis symptoms experienced by older women may be less severe than those experienced by younger women, they can nonetheless be unpleasant and negatively impact quality of life. Some of these symptoms include painful genitalia, bloating, constipation, and pelvic pain.
Since the symptoms could be mistaken for those of other conditions that are common in this age group, like irritable bowel syndrome or bladder infections, it can be challenging to identify endometriosis in older women. A pelvic examination, ultrasound, and MRI may be used to confirm a diagnosis. It could be necessary to take a tissue sample.
Endometriosis in older women may be treated surgically, hormonally, or with painkillers. The type of HRT may need to be altered or discontinued depending on how severe the symptoms are. Surgery is a more invasive option that may not be suitable for many people, but it may be required to remove the tissue and any formed scar tissue.
The fact is that endometriosis can affect women of any age, even those who are older. Although the symptoms may not be as severe, they can nonetheless have a negative impact on one's quality of life and require medical care. If you or a loved one show signs of endometriosis, talk to a medical expert to decide the best course of action.
Treatment
There are a number of endometriosis care techniques that may be employed, depending on the severity of the symptoms and whether pregnancy is desired. The sickness has no known treatment.
Different medications can be used to treat endometriosis and associated symptoms.
NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and analgesics (painkillers), such as ibuprofen and naproxen, are often used to relieve pain.
Hormone-based drugs like GnRH analogues and contraceptive (birth control) techniques can both lessen pain. These strategies include
Prescription drugs
IUDs with hormones
Cervical rings
The implants
Patches you can inject.
These methods might not be suitable for those wanting to get pregnant.
Some endometriosis patients who are having problems getting pregnant use fertility medications and procedures.
Endometriosis-related lesions, adhesions, and scar tissues can occasionally be surgically removed. By using a tiny camera to observe inside the body during laparoscopic surgery, incisions can be kept to a minimum.
Discuss your treatment choices with a medical expert. A treatment's effectiveness, side effects, long-term safety, cost, and accessibility are all patient-specific.
Early diagnosis can benefit from more knowledge. Early intervention can stop or slow the progression of the disease and reduce its long-term implications.
In addition to communicating with their doctor, patients may find further information and emotional support in neighbourhood patient support groups.
Some treatments have drawbacks, and endometriosis-related symptoms might sometimes recur after treatment is over. The patient's effectiveness, undesirable side effects, long-term safety, costs, and accessibility all have an impact on the treatment option. The majority of current hormone therapies disrupt ovulation, thus they are not advised for endometriosis patients who want to get pregnant.
Surgery is routinely performed to alleviate symptoms of pain and increase pregnancy rates, depending on the severity of the disease. In addition, lesions may recur even after effective eradication due to abnormalities in the pelvic floor muscles. For central sensitization, secondary abnormalities of the pelvis, particularly the pelvic floor, and these diseases, some people may benefit from physiotherapy and complementary therapies. Among the treatments for infertility brought on by endometriosis include laparoscopic surgical removal of the condition, ovarian stimulation with intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilisation (IVF), though success rates vary.
Priorities and challenges
Because the general public and the majority of front-line healthcare workers frequently are not aware that painful and life-altering pelvic pain is not usual, symptoms are frequently normalised and stigmatised, which causes a significant delay in diagnosis. Patients who potentially benefit from medical symptomatic therapy are rarely provided therapies because primary healthcare providers lack expertise about endometriosis. Non-steroidal analgesics (painkillers), oral contraceptives, and progestin-based contraceptives are frequently not administered to patients in a timely way due to diagnostic delays. Due to the limited capacity of health systems in many countries, access to specialised surgery for those who need it is inadequate. Furthermore, there aren't enough multidisciplinary teams with the range of skills and resources necessary for the early detection and effective treatment of endometriosis, especially in low- and middle-income countries. Although screening and basic management of endometriosis should be handled by primary healthcare practitioners, there is a lack of screening and trustworthy prediction tools for patients and communities. Additionally, there are several knowledge gaps, necessitating the development of non-invasive diagnostic techniques as well as pregnancy-related medical therapies.

zomba, othello, demo at Nofim, and some funny cartoons   9.5.2023
zomba, othello, demo at Nofim, and some funny cartoonds
s
So what else have I been doing besides politics? I went on Saturday to Cinematheque to see the London theatre which we watch as it takes place on the stage in England. Not one of my favourite plays but this was so good. Iago so amazingly clever and evil. And on quote:Othello.."..An honourable murderer....for nought I did in hate but all in honour,,,take it out of  context but it describes how women in the Arab community are killed for the honour of their men "
I went downstairs to exercise and found that they were doing Zomba. I never tried it because I thought it was everyone just doing his own thing and my balance is not so good. But I was persuaded to stay and am glad I did so. Now that the summer is coming and I can do less walking and try not to go out in the heat of the day I need exercise and also to keep myself occupied.
At the Saturday demonstration we were joined by a couple with a dog and she reminded me that during the Corona period, my friend Dori, from Ra'anana had asked her to come and speak to me from the pavement. So now we met in the open air for the first time. I try not to think of that period. It has definitely had an effect on me as I find that sometimes if I am too much in the flat I get that feeling of panic again. But as I have friends who are still suffering physically from the Corona that is not so bad.
Something  so nice. A woman wrote to me on whatsapp and I am now thinking where she got my name from.....said that she was one of those in Jerusalem who are active in the various protest movements in Jerusalem. She asked me to phone her and asked if we would be prepared for couples with young children to join us here at Nofim at our demonstrations as otherwise the demonstrations at the president's office start very late. Public transport only starts running past eight because of Shabbat and the summer clock. Prepared????
I told her we would jump at it.
At the Schechter class today for the lecture on the ages I heard two of the women speaking of a Shabbat conversation. The two subjects were is a croissant considered bread for ending a meal with the blessing. . Which sent me to Google and now I am completely confused.....according to Google there does not have to  be bread on the table to do so. But they were discussing if a croissant is considered bread. And then if one is allowed to remove the vegetables from a soup....I understood that you could do so if you have a certain type of spoon on Shabbat. With all honour to people's religious beliefs but when do they get time to think of anything else. On the other hand they are women steeped in Jewish learning.
Anyhow before you go on to the darker side of my letter
And this which I really love. Thank you Tamar
I am listening to the first chapter of Follett's " The winter of the world ". It is hard listening to it. About the brownshirts of Hitler and the whole chapter is so similar to the rise of Ben Gvir  that it is frightening and sickening. Not that we have got that far yet but it could well be. The violence today in Israel is terrifying and it is  not only a case of there being more media. Twice lately ...and who knows what has not been reported.....Arabs were beaten up only for speaking Police arrested two suspects, are expected to bring in more from Mount Meron assault; The  victim: 'I shouted to them that I'm Druze, hoping they might stop beating me, but they didn't'; And by the way this Druze has served in the army which most of the visitors to this shrine have not done so. And the case in Tel Aviv where a group of about 15 young men attacked, punched and knifed a young man whom they heard speaking Arabic. I cannot but compare what I am listening to with thi. And it also reminds one of pogroms. And there is not a weekin the Arab communities that they do no kill one of their own. Either criminals settling stores or families with vengeance in their hearts. I am convinced that the reason is that there are more and more guns flying around.
Years ago there was a terrible case in Israel .....4 boys of Kibbutz Shomrat raped a 14 year old girl for days.  Four days in which 11 boys raped a 14-year-old girl.
Only four of them were tried, Arik Chazon, Nadav Biton, Ofir Barry, and Tzafir Tsavison.
They received a ridiculous sentence of 15 months in prison.
And today, 35 years after Ofir Barry is the owner of a successful real estate company, Eric Chazon is the owner of a pest control company. Nadav Biton left the country and Zafir Tsavison still lives in Kibbutz Shomrat. All are married, all are parents and raise children and live their lives to the fullest. Yael Grimberg, after an exhausting life, after a life in poverty and with countless suicide attempts and mental problems, was found dead today at the age of 49. I wonder if their neighbours  or people  they work with know what these men did . And the fact that one of them still lives on the kibbutz says it all.  Unfortunately Israel has not progressed very far in their treatment of rape victims.  As far as I can remember she and her family were not long time members of the kibbutz and that was why the kibbutz turned their back on her. I phoned the kibbutz today and told them that even today when people mention Shomrat that is one of the first things they think of.  Last night they tried to interview the four men and not one of them said that he was ashamed of what they had done. There were actually 11 rapists but for some reason none of them were brought to trial.
"Israel's far-right government is set to back a bill on Sunday That would launch a pilot program building energy storage plants to provide the ultra-Orthodox population with electricity that wasn’t generated during Shabbat." Have  you any idea how much that will cost us? But more than that is how much further they are going back into the Dark Ages and I don't mean that as a clever pun. Those of us who worked all our lives are more and more having to support these parasites. I am also very worried about what is happening in Jerusalem and more and more in Kiryat Hayovel which is being taken over by the ultra-orthodox. And if I sound anti-Semitic I am because these are not people who are tolerant of anything but their own way of life. Already one of the community centres which used to hold lectures on Shabbat can no longer do so.
He is not a suspect. If you look at this article and video  video you will see the shooter standing while the Palestinian runs away and  simply shooting him in the back...the Israeli was drunk and also had his driving license suspended. Ben Gvir calls for a relaxing of gun laws. Can you believe it? There is so much violence today in Israeli society. There have been two cases of Arabs being beaten up just for being Arabs. The one case dafke at the celebraionts of Miroin
At funeral, thousands hail Arab teen shot dead in road clash as a ‘martyr’
Suspect Dennis Mokin, 32, appears in court as relatives of Diar Umari shout 'murderer'; victim's father and Arab MKs blame Minister Ben Gvir for encouraging civilians to carry guns

Anon is back and armed with stories!
**I copied them all onto an individual post for continuity (as opposed to scrolling through a bunch of asks). Enjoy ladies (it's juicy):
"I’m the middle east exoticism & men aren’t dense anon. A good example I have was in a European country, not specifying where because I don’t want to dox myself. This was a large gathering of many kinda of people — nouveau gulf arabs, stodgier euro types, and then a mix of women but especially one very pushy texan woman. She had impressed one of the middle eastern men with her french, he was the kind to tip his landcruiser, very rich though.
He was involved with some business venture with one of the brits there. He introduced this woman then left to socialize with other men, and she tried the same speaking in french seduction spiel with the fake low sultry voice. The british guy just gave her an up down, and responded back in english. He was an old country type, never to be caught dead speaking not english. Basically after that she wasn’t welcomed by that group because poseur vibes, and the arab guy thought she was trashy.
He thought she was trashy because apparently she had told him she was there for pleasure and her not fitting in with his partners etc was a major no, especially because this man already had a nikkah done to one of his wealthy relations. He obviously didn’t disclose it but it signaled to everyone that she couldn’t be around people because they’d be talking about formula one and she would try to shoehorn proust and ask about jewelry deets too. Last i saw her she was in line at paul’s.
WASP society storytime: knew a very accomplished girl but she had this raw naked ambition that’s very good for getting what you want. Until you’re surrounded by very uptight conservative people. She kept trying to namedrop all her accomplishments (there were a lot) to basically the wrong audience. The reception was really cold and icy and she just kept going even though it was clear that her behavior made her seem like a self obsessed striver (better for her silicon valley audience, i’m sure).
Another story i have: this girl was south asian. I won’t say where but like most of south asia this ethnicity was looked down upon in this gulf society. She was always trying to talk about her home country like it was a mystical far away land, till one day her “idol” told her that her driver was also from said country, and she didn’t miss a beat and went on to say that the driver was misled, bad background etc. the woman had her driver for over 15 years and bscly blacklisted her as wannabe bwood.
An example I have from middle east is also that (speaking as nonblack woc) a lot of men expect african american women to act like they’re from reality tv. I knew a girl, very niche interests, great artist. She would fit into a group at times until the men would ask her questions (racist ones mind) and she basically freaked out. She was smart but she didn’t seem to get that they didn’t care. The group later had a guy who pretended he was african american and rly into the culture to appease em smh
Too many nouveau riche imitators try too hard to dress clean and professional or like they just raided the row. A lot of the rich girls who also have the hot girl vibe dress like bohemian wannabe hippies—these are girls who already have money from their parents, and in my experience, are the most likely to take someone under their wing. These girls generally don’t have major careers though so unless you have disposable vacationing income i’d say maybe stick to more clean cut types (likely older)
I once knew this girl, she was born in Jeddah and had moved to Riyadh. Kept seeing one of 15000 al sauds. She was an expat, TCK type through and through so it amazed me that her naivety led to her be the front for a party he threw. There was alcohol, drugs, and expats obvi. Someone leaked it through whatsapp and his family knew he saw her, they had her cut off. He was pretty far from being MbS but still. She was stupid though and had posted him to her public instagram. I’m from riyadh."

Into the Safe Zone; ch. 10
Managing
summary: Jungkook has been hooked on the Mobile version of Call of Duty since his friend Taehyung introduced him to it. What he’s not expecting is to stumble across a female gamer on the platform that may actually be better than he is…and once he finds you, he can’t help but get a little addicted. To the game, of course…not to you…no matter what his clan may think.
genre: social media au, romance, comedy
rating: pg13
pairing: jungkook x reader
chapter word count: 2.2k

By some miracle, you manage to make it through the night without getting completely trashed. And you only have to ward off Bryce a handful of times before he gets the point that you’re not interested. It doesn’t seem to hurt his pride much, he quickly finds another unsuspecting woman to set his sights on and he’s off.
Which leaves you to third wheel with Mica and Talon. Which, when you think about it, is a much better place to be despite having to witness them swap spit and grind on the dance floor.
You’re definitely not complaining once the night is finally over though. You catch a cab and part ways with the doting (and significantly trashed) couple, go home and fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.
If it hadn’t been for the alarm you set just after making plans to game with Jungkook, you probably wouldn’t have woken up in time.
As it is, you’re jumping awake from a deep slumber as soon as the loud tone goes off. It’s an obnoxious sound, one chosen purposely to get your butt out of bed.
Thankfully, all you really need to do to get ready for your plans with Jungkook is make some coffee and maybe brush your teeth. It’s unlikely that it’ll matter if you’re in an oversized t-shirt and your underwear. What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him, right?
Once settled on your bed with a fresh cup of coffee, you open up the Call of Duty: Mobile app and reach for your headphones. You know that some players don’t bother to wear them — you can hear everything their game is telling them echoing into their mic — but you’re not one of them. You like to be able to hear properly. It’s more likely that you’ll hear an enemy approaching and which angle they’re coming from if you’re wearing headphones.
Plus, it’s always nice to have your teams’ voices in your ears so you can actually understand what they’re saying. That is, if they speak your language.
Your experience on this app has been an interesting one. Not only do most of the people you get grouped with not speak your language — there’s a healthy mix of Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Korean — but more often than not your teammates are men.
Not that that’s completely unexpected, but it’s still a shock to the system whenever you do happen upon another female gamer. And, honestly, there are only two reactions to you being a female on this game that have stuck out to you — the men are either incredibly annoyed that a woman has infiltrated their precious guy time…or they’re absolutely floored and beyond impressed.
Despite not showing any interest in any of them at all, you’ve had your fair share of them hop into your messages on the app. And you’re never exactly surprised by it. Most of them start and end exactly the same — they tell you you’re a good gamer, then they slowly ease into calling you beautiful or “baby”, and then they try to get your number or your WhatsApp or your Instagram.
There have been a few of them you’ve given into, who have seemed pretty chill about the whole thing…but others? Others not so much. Some have acted like you’d owed them something for the compliments they’d paid you.
And some of them have legitimately tried to pay you…in Battle Passes.
You’ve swiftly exited those chats and even removed a few of the more passive aggressive ones from your friends list.
The fact people who aren’t friends with you can’t send you messages is a small, but wonderful, blessing.
You were beyond relieved that Jungkook wasn’t like most of the guys on the app, when you realized he was one of the nice guys, one of the more genuine ones.
And being invited into his clan was really a godsend.
Even though you don’t speak the same language, you game well together. You work well with each other and typically bounce off one another in a way you haven’t found with anyone else. Of course, it helps when Rapmon is playing so he can translate for you, but it’s getting easier to read situations without the verbal cues. And you’ve all found ways of communicating in the game without speaking. Like when Jungkook or Yoongi get an Adrenaline shot from an Air Drop and set it on the ground for you. If you don’t happen to see it, they shoot at it a couple of times and mutter your name and “adeulenallin” a few times until you understand.
And that’s the thing too, you’ve been picking up on bits and pieces of Korean terminology by playing with them. Just by listening to them speak while they play and then listening as the game announces something they’ve highlighted. Like a helicopter (a hellikobteo) or armor (gab-os).
To say you can communicate seamlessly with anyone but RM would be a lie. You still struggle to communicate with Jungkook, even with the help of a translation app. As you’ve come to realize, not everything you can say in English is directly translatable to Korean. Not without switching a few words around or saying it in a completely different way.
The two languages are not always compatible and now you very clearly understand why so many people say English is hard. English is hard and so much more complicated than it needs to be.
And, to be fair, you know plenty of native English speakers who can’t even speak the language properly, so you really can’t blame anyone for not learning very quickly.
You, on your side of things, have started and stopped teaching yourself Korean multiple times. There are times you think you’re getting it, that it’s starting to make sense, but then a thread starts to unravel and you’re confused all over again.
Even saying all that, you and Jungkook have managed so far. Clumsily and with a bit of confusion from both parties, but you’ve managed.
You’re still highly aware of the barriers though, especially when the two of you talk about anything outside of the game.
Truthfully, you don’t actually talk that much outside of the game. At least, very little more than, “Hi, how are you! Want to play?”
Last night had been one of the first real conversations you’d had…and it had been interesting to get through when you were already a couple of drinks in. Of course, your curious best friend and roommate had been bursting with questions the second she saw the Hangul on your screen. You’d managed to dodge most of her questions, changing the subject to her boyfriend or her model friends. Thankfully, it had worked.
Barely.
You weren’t ready to talk about this yet, didn’t even know what to tell her besides the fact Jungkook is someone you game with. Knowing Mica, she wouldn’t settle for that answer though, would insist that there must be something more with the way you were smiling.
But, of course, you were smiling! You always did when Jungkook talks to you. He’s sweet and a really bright part of your day. You enjoy gaming with him and the two of you work well as a team. But there’s nothing more to it than that. There couldn’t be. He’s in South Korea and speaks an entirely different language than you. Plus, you’re not even sure how old he is. You never asked, nor did you feel it was appropriate to.
Granted, it’d be nice to know how old everyone in your clan is. Maybe that’s justified. After all, it’d be a bit weird for you to be gaming with a group of guys 10+ years younger than you, right? Right.
Yeah, you definitely should ask. Maybe sooner rather than later.
But not on voice chat with Jungkook. Not today. You’ll wait to ask them all at once, that way nobody can read too much into it…kind of like you are right now.
You sigh and get into a Battle Royale lobby, waiting for Jungkook to get online. A few game requests pop up, but you click out of them, even going so far as to check the “ignore for 5 minutes” box on a few of the more persistent ones.
That’s another thing about being a female gamer. There are moments when the requests to play become overwhelming, to the point where you just start denying all of them so you can have five minutes to breathe. You don’t even think it has anything to do with you being good at the game, but everything to do with you being a female.
The number of guys that treat this game as a dating app is truly astounding.
Jungkook and your clan excluded, of course.
Seeing Jungkook’s familiar display picture appear in your friend’s list, you grin and wait a few seconds before sending him an invite. You know what it’s like to just sign on and be immediately overwhelmed with requests. You always like to give people at least a couple of seconds to settle into the game.
When you do finally send him a request it only takes him a couple of seconds to accept, sounds crackling over his mic that’s already turned on.
He greets you by name, something you’re not entirely used to, but definitely not bothered by. Actually, you think it sounds nice coming from him, his accent curving around your name in a way you’re slowly growing fond of. Unlike Rapmon, Jungkook doesn’t fake an English accent when he says it, not the way he does when he’s trying to speak a full sentence in English anyway.
It’s cute.
But you’d never admit that.
You’d really like to know how old he is before you admit to anything like that.
“Hi Jungkook! How are you?” You’re glad Jungkook at least knows the basics of English so you can exchange pleasantries, but it always makes you feel a little bad when you can’t do the same in return. You’re working on it, you remind yourself. You’re just not confident enough with it yet.
“I’m good! How are you?”
Impossibly, your grin widens. “Good! Not hungover like I thought I’d be.”
Jungkook chuckles and his laugh does something weird to your chest. Something you’re not willing to analyze at the moment.
“So, your night was good?”
“Yes, thankfully!” you reply, not entirely sure what to say. You don’t want to go into too much detail about it, knowing he would only understand bits and pieces, but you also feeling kind of awkward for saying so little.
You clear your throat. “How was work?”
“Ah!” he lets out what sounds like an exasperated sigh, muttering something under his breath that you don’t understand. He seems to realize this and makes a sound in the back of his throat. “Good, but it made me tired. More complicated orders.”
You snort at that, only able to imagine. You don’t get nearly as many crazy specific orders as a waitress, but you get a few hard-to-manage customers complaining when things aren’t done exactly right (even though they’d never specified how, exactly, they’d wanted it exactly right). Working with the public is exhausting, that much you can agree with.
“Did the guy leave you alone?” Jungkook questions, almost hesitantly. You find it cute that he’s shy about asking, although you can’t be sure whether he’s nervous about the answer, him overstepping, or your reaction to him asking. It’s nice that he’s concerned though. His offer to help in the only way he really could the night before was sweet.
“He did! He found someone else to bother,” you laugh, eyes moving toward your friend’s list when you see that RM, Jimin, and Taehyung are online. Your eyes widen at the realization that it’s Sunday. “Oh! Your livestream!”
Jungkook makes a questioning sound in the back of his throat. “Huh?”
You hadn’t even thought about the fact that this is when they’d normally go live together. “Don’t you want to play with the clan?”
“Ah,” he hums, falling into silence. Just when you’re about to suggest he play with them instead, he speaks again, “No, I want to play with you. Can play with them later.”
“Are you sure?” Guilt is already niggling at your chest. You know enough about their livestreams to know that Jungkook is one of the fan favorites, to know that he’s one of the clan’s best players (despite his denial of that very fact). You’re sure he’ll be missed.
“I’m sure,” he says, smile evident in his voice. “Ready to play?”
“Okay…” you begin, teeth digging into your bottom lip. “A couple of games...and then we’ll play with the clan?”
He laughs. “Okay, if you want.”
With a smile, you’re selecting duos (something you’ve been doing a lot more of recently) and getting sucked into yet another time-warp of CODM with Jungkook.
The two of you end up playing more than a few games on your own before getting texts from the clan to hurry up and accept their requests to play. With laughter shared between the two of you, neither of you seem to mind ignoring them for just a little bit longer.
After all, a few more games without them wouldn’t hurt, right?

Rwanda: Rusesabagina Was Forcibly Disappeared
Tumblr media
Paul Rusesabagina, who was detained on August 27, 2020, is paraded in front of the media in handcuffs at the headquarters of the Rwanda Investigation Bureau in Kigali, Rwanda on August 31. © 2020 Clement Uwiringiyimana/Reuters
The government of Rwanda’s arrest of a prominent critic of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) amounted to an enforced disappearance, a serious violation of international law. Rwanda should immediately grant the government opponent, Paul Rusesabagina, access to legal counsel of his choosing, confidential consultations, and regular contact with his family. They should allow him promptly to exercise his right to challenge the legality of his arrest, represented by legal counsel of his choosing before an independent tribunal applying international human rights norms. Rusesabagina, who fled to Belgium in 1996 and is now a Belgian citizen living in the United States, traveled from the US to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on August 27, 2020. Family members told Human Rights Watch they exchanged WhatsApp messages with him that evening, but that they were not able to contact him again, and knew nothing of what happened to him until the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) announced it had Rusesabagina in custody in Kigali, Rwanda, on August 31. Rusesabagina’s family were not able to speak with him until September 8. “Rwanda has an established track record of using unlawful, cloak-and-dagger methods to target those it perceives to be a threat to the ruling party,” said Lewis Mudge, Central Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “The fact that Rwanda did not pursue Rusesabagina through lawful extradition proceedings suggests the authorities do not believe their evidence or fair trial guarantees would stand up to scrutiny before an independent tribunal, and so opted to circumvent the rule of law.” Human Rights Watch spoke with three family members and one of Rusesabagina’s lawyers, and reviewed publicly available information, including data on flights between Dubai and Kigali and interviews given by President Paul Kagame and the spokesperson of the Investigation Bureau. Rusesabagina is best known as the manager of the Hotel Mille Collines, a luxury hotel in central Kigali where hundreds of people sought protection during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. After the genocide he fled Rwanda, fearing for his safety. He later became a fierce critic of the government of Rwanda and co-founded the opposition Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (Mouvement rwandais pour le changement démocratique, MRCD), a coalition of opposition groups, which has an armed wing known as the National Liberation Forces (Forces de libération nationale, FLN). The FLN has claimed responsibility for several attacks in Rwanda’s Southern Province since 2018. - Human Rights Watch

middle east anon ✌️
we also have different ‘t’, ‘z’, ‘d’ and ‘k’ letters lol but there’s no ‘p’ in arabic, i guess ‘ژ' is the letter ‘p’ in persian or am i just stupid? xD haha i wish i could speak persian, i think the language rly nice actually..
yes..i do live in the middle east but we are only taught rly poor arabic at school so my written arabic suffers a lil..the school is more focused on foreign languages so..yeaa
and when i’m like..chatting with friends on whatsapp or somethin we only write in german bc we only know arabic from home like..the spoken dialect of the country. but i’m working on it bc i want to be able to understand arabian poetry ( i LOVE poetry lol)
is there any dialects in persian too? i’m just curious 💖
Hello my lovely anon 💕 sorry it took me a bit longer to answer this one. Past couple of days has been a bit messy! Also hope you are feeling fine today 💙
Oopps yeah also all of those letter... see i'm telling you, if someone speaking native arabic heard iranians butcher the words they'd weep in agony fjdkkfckkfkf not only that it creates honestly the only issue with persian language and that's the spelling, since for example اساس and اثاث is pronounced the same way (there are tons of these words you can imagine) the problem that perhaps doesn't exists in native pronunciations of the words. (Here having a basic knowledge of arabic helps bc by figuring out the words root one can guess the correct spelling but all in all, it's easy to absolutely suck at it :D)
But beside the spelling i think yeah, persian language is beautiful. It's a language of poetry, no matter how much i've tried i could never manage to convey the emotions words in persian poems carry in translations. I think despite the hellish state of middle east and many problems we are struggling with on daily basis, for the sake of this language and poetry alone, i'm glad i was born here.
Now moving on i gotta admit i never knew german language being that popular in middle east (i mean it kinda is between engineering students that want to apply to german universities later but not to the point that they would talk with each other in german!) I'm kinda curious which country you live but i don't wanna force you to say it in anyway! 💜 (also jsyk you can come off anon and shoot me a private message if it'a more comfy that way)
And oh about your question! Oh dear where should i even start, persian language has quite big number of dialects. First off, there are number of countries beside mine (iran) like afghanistan and tajikistan that speak a certain dialect of persian tho in their situation the language itself has been given a different name. (Altho for majority of iranians i think it's very easy to understand said languages) Based on regions those languages contain different dialects too but i don't have full knowledge of that.
But in iran itself every single region has a different dialect, but unfortunately only the dialect spoken in the capital city has become this "standard" or as we call it "the accent-less" version ((like it's some sort of original and basic form which ISN'T AT ALL true.)) The country is essentially so diverse, with each region having its own culture, dialect and in some cases even language. These are two examples:
Basically there are groups of people in south who are descendants of north african immigrant and thus still speak arabic and north-western people whose mother tongue is a branch of turkish. When speaking persian their mother tongue is mixed in and create a whole new dialect
But in some other cases, the dialect itself is so unique with its own grammar and words that it has turned into whole new language which is completely incomprehensible for someone from another region even if they share the same lingual root. Kurdish language is the most well-known example of that, tho fundamentally a branch of persian, it's impossible for me to understand it for example. There other examples of this in the country but they will be too obscure for foreigners and i've already rambled a lot :D (bc of this they also have a certain dialect while speaking the "standard" persian which is easy to detect)
Phew. I hope i didn't bore you with this tediously long reply. I tend to overshare when it comes to my country u_u plz accept my apology. 💙
(Edit: totally forgot this one. You were close but correct hehehe.
The letter "ژ" is what they write as "zh"? Like j in deja vu. Dnkeskdksmw
The substitute for p in persian language is پ.
(And also i think arabic doesn't have "ch" and "hard g" originally so if you're curious we use چ and گ respectively for them. But this is the version written in iran. I know for a fact in Tunisia they have a different substitute letters for these sounds so i assume different countries use different letters)

‏Why Princess Rayah She only writes in English on Twitter, even when she writes about things in her country or about father/family? Even Prince Ali uses English more and princess alia on Instagram only English I found this unacceptable for a prince to speak in a foreign language more than the language of the country
I respect your opinion and I understand where you are coming from but you gotta see the full picture. Twitter is not like a Whatsapp group where you speak to a very specific group of people. Many Twitter users use the platform to promote their opinions/work etc that is generally aimed for ALL people in the world and the global lingua franca is English so it makes more sense to write in English. The Jordanian protest right now doesn’t get noticed by people from outside the MENA because most of the tweets are written in Arabic (I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for some anons here). In Raiyah’s context, her American side of the family probably doesn’t speak Arabic and her husband, Ned, has only started learning Arabic...plus she works in academia and is pursuing a PhD degree in the US which means she spent majority of her life speaking, writing and reading in English. That kind of environment can really changed the way you speak and Raiyah is probably more comfortable in English.
About Ali and Alia, I don’t follow them online but like I said I can see your points. It would be nice if they can do something like Rania, putting both English and Arabic captions in one post?

You should probably familiarize yourself with a language before publicly using its terminology. But this thought apparently didn’t occur to political commentator and Fox News “Nation” contributor Tomi Lahren, a popular Donald Trump supporter. A video of Lahren using the Hindi word for owl went viral on social media Tuesday after Lahren used the literal translation of the word as opposed to understanding the cultural significance of it.
"Trump 2020 is all about Keeping America Great because President Trump is wise like an owl, or as you guys would say in Hindi - President Trump is wise like an Ulloo. I hope I said that right," Lahren said in the video. While her pronunciation wasn’t too bad, what she failed to understand is that in both Hindi and Urdu, as well as other widely spoken South Asian languages, the term “ullu” or “ulloo” is used as an insult. So while “ulloo” translates to owl its cultural significance is not the same, an “ulloo” isn’t someone wise in India—it’s someone foolish.
South Asian Twitter users were quick to notice the mistake. Many took to reposting the video agreeing that they also believed Trump is an “ulloo.” Lahren’s attempt to relate to Indian Trump supporters was a great fail; instead of being praised for her attempt to speak Hindi she became a hilarious and viral “ulloo.” Her video garnered views not only on social media but messaging platforms, finding its way to the infamous Whatsapp news base as an American failing to understand cultural nuances. While the original clip recorded and shared by Lahren has since then been deleted from her social media, it exists in reposts worldwide.
Tumblr media
According to The Independent, Lahren first gained national attention as a conservative host on TheBlaze. She was frequently praised by the right for segments in which she criticized liberal politics, but in 2017, she was suspended from TheBlaze after expressing her support for abortion an interview on The View. Following that incident, she began working for the Great America Alliance, a group dedicated to supporting Trump, The Independent reported.
While Lahren is being credited as the “ulloo” who failed to realize she called Trump an idiot or “jackass” in some translational slang, South Asian comedian Ali-Asghar Abedi claimed on Twitter that it was actually his idea.
“In case it wasn’t clear, I’m the person who pranked Tomi Lahren, and I did it via @BookCameo. Best $85 I’ve ever spent,” Abedi wrote on Twitter.
Tumblr media
In an article written for The Independent, Abedi alleged he pranked Lahren to think she was calling Trump wise. “Lahren thought she was calling Trump wise but ended up insulting the man whose presidency her entire career is based on,” he wrote. “Maybe her brain was fried from taking the President's advice about ingesting bleach. Or maybe she was easily duped because she's lacking in intellectual curiosity and only offers arguments that a toddler would call reductive. Either way, waging $85 that she wouldn’t bother to research the meaning of “ulloo” felt like a safe bet.”
It’s true even if someone paid Lahren to say the word “ulloo” a quick Google search of what it means would find variations of the word in phrases all yielding to negative results. An incident like this reminds one of the times as a child people would give you the wrong meaning of a word in a different language or the viral tattoos of people who think they have one inspirational phrase written when in reality their tattoo says “pizza” in Arabic.
Abedi cited other political commentators who allegedly fell victim to the same pranks including Ben Shapiro, Jesse Watters, Mark Levin, Sarah Palin, and Kimberly Guifoyle. It goes to show that research is always key and blind trust, which many Trump supporters have, isn’t always the answer— when in doubt, fact check.
In the end, I’d say Lahren’s $85 investment was a great one. It may not have looked well for her but it provided South Asians some well-deserved comedy. Besides not many will disagree that Trump is indeed an “ulloo.”

Israel’s NSO Group makes some of the most invasive, powerful spyware on the planet. If you’ve got an iPhone or an Android device, someone among NSO’s 500 staff will have a very strong chance of hacking it and grabbing all the data inside.
But, fortunately for the majority of cellphone owners, NSO’s surreptitious Android and iPhone tools are supposed to be used solely by governments hunting criminals and terrorists. Time and again, though, researchers have alleged NSO’s so-called Pegasus malware has been used against activists and journalists, from Mexico to the United Arab Emirates. On Wednesday, another case emerged. This time, one of the biggest nonprofits in the world, Amnesty International, claims one of its employees was targeted by Pegasus in Saudi Arabia, alongside another human rights defender focused on the country. Their names are not being revealed to protect their safety....
In June this year, an unnamed Amnesty employee was sent a suspicious WhatsApp message. The sender asked the recipient to provide some kind of coverage of a protest happening in front of the Saudi Arabian embassy in Washington D.C. that supported “brothers” detained in the Middle Eastern country.
The message also contained a link, presumably containing information on the protest. But the link led to a website that Amnesty believes is controlled by NSO Group. The Israeli company’s tech uses such websites as launchpads, taking the target through to another site that’s used to launch attacks on target smartphones, according to Amnesty and Citizen Lab. If successful, this results in infection of the device with Pegasus.
Once the Pegasus spyware is on an Apple or Google device, it can do almost anything, from silently stealing messages and spying on calls to peeping through the webcam and listening in through the microphone. Fortunately for the Amnesty staffer targeted in this case, they avoided infection.
The nonprofit declined to say if the other non-Amnesty, Saudi-focused activist featured in its report was successfully hacked with NSO’s malware. The unnamed individual received an SMS text message that promised information on a mysterious court order, but again the linked website was connected by Amnesty to NSO.
“Regardless of whether that is ultimately successful or not, companies ... have responsibilities to ensure their products don’t cause or contribute to human rights abuses,” said Franco. Amnesty couldn’t say who the attackers actually were, even though the victim activists were focused on Saudi Arabian issues.
The connection from the suspicious link to NSO was the result of some deep technical work on behalf of Amnesty’s cybersecurity research team led by Claudio Guarnieri and Citizen Lab. They were able to develop a “fingerprint” of NSO’s attacks. The fingerprint was essentially a marker for identifying the way in which NSO rerouted targets from links in messages to websites where attacks would launch. NSO calls this the Pegasus Anonymizing Transmission Network (PATN).
The PATN uses encryption and layers of servers to avoid detection. But, ironically, as the surveillance company’s anti-detection techniques are unique, they can be turned into a fingerprint. Compare that fingerprint with techniques used in real-world attacks and it’s possible to link them to NSO. That’s just what Guarnieri and his team did with the attempted hacks on the Saudi activists.
Using that fingerprint, Amnesty researchers also found another 600 websites that rerouted visitors in a similar way to the attacks documented Wednesday. According to the Amnesty report, those 600 sites “represent potential threats to human rights defenders and civil society actors in countless other countries around the world.”
Some of the servers hosted websites that Amnesty believed could’ve been used in attacks on targets “relevant to Russian-speaking countries,” including a fake Sputnik News website. More fake news and government sites believed by the researchers to be controlled by NSO were also found in Kazakhstan.
Citizen Lab, which tracks surveillance tools, backed Guarnieri’s findings.
Talking about the 174 targets he’s tracked to date, Citizen Lab researcher Scott-Railton said: “The number weighs against NSO’s claims that their product is carefully used as art of national security and criminal investigations.
“I expect that the tally of abuses will only grow as NSO seeks to expand its customer base.”
In 2016, the iPhone of U.A.E. activist Ahmed Mansoor was targeted by the Pegasus tool, Citizen Lab reported. Throughout last year, the tool was allegedly used in Mexico, targeting a range of lawyers, activists and journalists, leading to a public outcry and demands for an official inquiry.
The Pegasus malware was also allegedly used by former Panama president Ricardo Martinelli to spy on his rivals. Martinelli was recently extradited from the U.S. to his homeland to face charges of embezzlement and espionage on political opponents. According to extradition court filings, he spent nearly $13.5 million on the Pegasus tool. He has denied any wrongdoing, according to previous reports.
Just earlier this month, it emerged one of NSO’s own programmers had stolen internal code and attempted to sell it on the dark web for as much as $50 million in various cryptocurrencies.
NSO, and its private equity owner Francisco Partners, suffered because of those public relations kerfuffles. An acquisition deal with Blackstone Group that valued NSO at $1 billion last year fell apart because the investment business was concerned about the debacle in Mexico, a source familiar with the talks previously told Forbes. In July, it was reported that another acquisition deal with another Israeli surveillance giant, Verint, fell apart.

Written KCSE Exam Begins Tomorrow
Tumblr media
Written KCSE Exam Begins Tomorrow. Tomorrow marks the start of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) written examinations. More than 830,000 Form Four students have started writing their theory papers. Candidates will begin with English paper one and then move on to Chemistry paper one. They will then take paper one of mathematics and paper two on English comprehension. On February 28, practical and oral exams for French, German, Arabic, and Kenya sign languages began. A total of 831,015 candidates registered for the exam, which will be administered at 10,413 different locations. The enrolment for the 2021 exam increased by 9.39 per cent from the 752,981 candidates who wrote their papers at 10,437 locations in 2020. Last year, 752,981 students took the exams at 10,437 stations. This year, the number has increased by 78,034 (a 9.39% increase). The exam papers and other materials will be distributed through 483 distribution centres. The candidates have been waiting for this moment to move on to the next step on the academic ladder, or, if they don't perform well, to seek alternatives. This is what will determine their future, which is why they are making serious preparations. To get to this point, the candidates had to endure a lengthy closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown. The candidates must be diligent and confident over the next two weeks. George Magoha, Cabinet Secretary for Education, issued a warning to teachers and candidates to avoid cheating and other malpractices during the exams. He has also challenged exam centre managers – headteachers and invigilators – to ensure that the papers begin on time. Already one, Oscar Brighton, a third-year economics student at Zetech University, has been arrested for allegedly selling counterfeit KCPE and KCSE exam papers. According to the DCI, the suspect was apprehended by undercover agents from the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) while in possession of forged exam papers. He was also accused of setting up several Whatsapp groups in which candidates were asked to deposit money in order to gain access to the papers. “He had created several WhatsApp groups where candidates were asked to deposit between Sh1,600 for Humanities to Sh2,600 for Sciences.

Teenage Mothers Ready For KCSE Exams The suspect, a serial offender, is currently in custody and will be charged with violating Section 28 of the National Examination Malpractices Act on March 29, 2012 according to DCI reports. “We will not have mercy on him …in Turkana, we also found someone with a cellphone that had ready answer sheets and he is also in custody as we speak,” he said in part. The Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) issued guidelines for administering the exams. To prevent cheating and other malpractices, Dr Njengere stated that candidates would not be permitted to leave the exam room before the end of the time allotted for the paper unless special permission was granted by supervisors. There will be no communication in the examination room, and no outsiders will be permitted to enter the centre during the tests. In the past, cases of university students impersonating KCSE examination candidates have been documented. Last year, 27 officials were relieved of their duties as centre managers, supervisors, or invigilators due to allegations of violating examination administration rules. ALSO READ: 37 civilians were arrested for assisting in illegalities, including three university students and two businessmen. Candidates' cell phones were confiscated in 53 cases. Those arrested were accused of opening exam materials ahead of schedule and sharing the information with students via social media. Dr Njengere also cautioned candidates against using cell phones and other forms of electronic communication. Those caught with them will have their results thrown out.

Ethiopia    demonstration 5.1.2022
I am really miserable. I have been to the ear doctor, they have found nothing in the panoramic picture of my teeth. The two doctors think they found the cause of the pain but I have to go to a Mouth and Jaw doctor      and please no cracks……. But even though I tried to do it privately there is a waiting list of months both at the clinic and the hospital. I will try Hadassah tomorrow but I think I will ask my doctor here to make it “urgent”       It is more discomfort than anything else but there all the time
I received another message from Tesawa in Amharic which of course I could not read.  I was having visitors yesterday from Nofim so went to buy Baigels from our local Arab bakery. I met two young Ethiopians but they both said they could not read the language. The one said to me that I should wait.. He photographed the message from Whatsapp and sent it to his mother. He could not understand what she was saying so gave it to his friend who evidently speaks the language better than he does and she told me that he had written and  was buying food and then going the long way home. Modern technology.
But I was annoyed when he sent me a whatsapp asking me if I could buy him a smartphone and send it with someone to Ethiopia. This is something I have also noticed with Palestinians ….you help them and then there are those who ask for money. But then there are the others who thank us and when we say we have done nothing say, “But you try to help…..and you see us.”
At the demonstration on Friday for Sheikh Jarrah I was again followed and harassed by a revolting fellow, Rami Ben Yehuda. He has a mouth which would make a sewage smell like Eau de Cologne. He always tried to stop me walking and photographs me screaming that I should be dead but not to worry as it won’t be long. I said to him that I would actually prefer to be dead than in a world which he inhabits. People always come at once and get in his way. The police have seen this but never try to stop him. As I always say if someone on the left had to go to a demonstration of rightists they would have the shit beaten out of them but that is not our way. In any case after the demonstrations at Nofim I think I have heard most of the curses which can be thrown at us as elderly people. There is little chance of my being hurt at the demo. First of all I am careful and then too if there is a sudden surge I always find someone grabbing me and pulling me to safety.
This blond police  bitch was back. There is now a new chant …..Hodia (her name) , what forces  you to do what you do. What is so frightening in Israel today is the actions both of the police and the courts. The unnecessary action of the police in suddenly charging into a crowd. You actually have to see it. A group of demonstrators, not bothering the traffic and suddenly the group of  police standing quietly and then suddenly and quickly gathering into a group and charging into the demonstrators to grab the Palestinian flag….which is not illegal. They completely ignore the fact that there is nothing illegal and then they arrest the person holding it and some hours later he is freed…or if he is a Palestinian kept overnight and sometimes beaten up. The courts in which a judge can completely ignore a video  which shows nothing of this   and claim that the person threw chairs at the police. Sorry but it reminds me of the start of the Nazi invasion of human rights.
A photo of the man arrested at the last demo and the way he was grabbed
“Public Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev recently told the police commissioner and other high-ranking officers in the force that the Palestinian flag, which is also the flag of the PLO, may only be confiscated during demonstrations under certain, exceptional circumstances”.   You can check this out on Google
A general picture of the demonstration
This is a picture of the Ben Yehuda who harasses me but  in my case he is really in my face.
Public Security Minister Omer Bar-Lev recently told the police commissioner and other high-ranking officers in the force that the Palestinian flag, which is also the flag of the PLO, may only be confiscated during demonstrations under certain, exceptional circumstances.
And here is our favorite “policewoman” who was arrested in front of the court in friendly conversation with the police which shows how ridiculous her arrest was
