Watching the FF Versus XIII trailers and
- what would eventually become ff15 thing has been into development since 2006??? Jesus
- it used to be for the ps3 lmao
- so many familiar characters?? Aranea was there from the start ah
- the trailers show a fair amount completed! Aside from graphics overhaul, it's super easy to notice similar locations. I wonder how much of the game actually got produced. Because there is a LOT of mechanics that seem fully finished, various locations, and some plot
Speaking of the plot though, I get the feeling it wasn't very long either. I wonder if that's why they changed it to a main series game?
- full (affectionate) offense to ffxv but them actually fighting their way out of insomnia after noctis gets a power trip is fascinating and much better than the, admittedly fun though awkward, "ardyn is feeling like projecting himself and his fiance onto noctis and luna and arranged their marriage but Regis got the wedding set in a different country thus getting noctis out of insomnia"
- like I understand why they did the change-- noctis /aquiring/ his op power is the main plot of the game and its already short -- but the original one sounds much more fascinating. Like where exactly was the plot supposed to go from there if noctis starts out with his full armiger??
- that said I do like the stabby stabby armiger acquisition from ffxv.
Though It's impossible to compare with "death goddess gave it to me" bc versus13 didn't get made at all so I don't know how it would vibe
- also I get the vibe that some of the strongest parts of 15 are remnants from versus13. BUT like I said, i also get the vibe that versus13 was already suffering from lack of really meaty plot. All the trailers only focus on noctis and Co escaping insomnia/fighting in accordo, with some little hints of weird death magic (?). Of course a game trailer showing just the first 1/3rd of a game is smart but it does make me wonder just... what this game was supposed to end up as?
Like it's clearly sold as a revenge tale with fantasy strangeness in the trailers. Would it have been them going after the empire????
- prompto looks SO different and it's weird.

I was testing a mod in Episode Prompto when I noticed this little gem.   Aranea gives Prompto a map to help him escape from the research facility but is she really helping him?  If you look closely you’ll see it’s actually a map of Lucis!  The very same map of Lucis that the lost tourists in Altissia use, but this map is blue, not green.  Talk about reusing assets! LOL! All images copyright Square Enix Co Ltd.

WAaaAAHHhhh. I just finished playing all the boys DLC's and HOLY CRAP?! What a time????!!
I have soooooooooo many feelings (esp about episode Ignis which everyone in the tags of my other post was encouraging me to play) so I'm going to do a breakdown post for each of the boys' episodes but DANG. Here are some initial thoughts:
They absolutely did my man Gladio dirty with that episode?? I personally got a lot of mileage out of the amount of innuendos from it (daddy swinging his big column around anyone?) and I will not turn my nose up at any Gladio content but damn. Comparatively to how long and story rich the other 2 episodes were... could've done him so much better :'(
My sweet cinnamon boy Prompto's episode... When he fell off the train I was like oh, he'll be okay and then his episode came along and slapped the hell out of me for my naivety. Love getting all the different glimpses into his back story and I know he would've been living for the times Aranea climbed up behind him on that snowmobile. But oof, my little fragile heart and love for our baby boy
And ofc absolutely no competition for whose episode was the ABSOLUTE BEST. YO. YOOOOO. Ignis is the character who I connected with the least in the main game so I appreciated getting a chance to play from his perspective, using his sick as FUCK fighting skills, and experiencing his absolute unfailing love for Noct. And then that alternate ending absolutely sent me. That is the true ending in my mind, the one I want to live by, with and in. Cue me being a sobbing wreck at the end of it again.
FFXV has just been an absolute gift to me at the end of an otherwise shitty year and I just have so, so, so much love for it, for these boys, that I cannot even do it justice with words. It is just a powerful feeling that has absolutely seized my body, mind and soul in its grasp and I imagine will never let me go.

i fucked myself getting attached to cid raines honestly. boy is only in a combined 15 minutes of the game and I hurt myself about it. ravus is the same, he's in like 30 minutes of ignis' dlc episode, maybe 15 minutes in the base game, and two scenes in kingsglaive. aranea is in the same boat as ravus(very little screentime in the base game and then is promoted to side character in prompto's dlc because they couldn't make her dlc too). nyx is the main character of the movie and they show his burnt to a crisp corpse in the ending of the game. vincent is an optional party member in the og ff7 that you don't even know how to recruit unless you have been told or read a fucking game guide and he's the protag for one of the most hated ff installments ever. caius is the antagonist of a ff sequel that is burned to the ground because everyone hates the xiii trilogy and even though he's the main antagonist he doesn't show up for hours at a time. gabranth has a total of 20 minutes of screentime and then fucking dies. setzer is from a game that came out like 30 years ago and has a single cameo in kh2 as a character that isn't even him. genesis is a side character in crisis core and a secret ending character in - again - the same hated game vincent is the protag for. clive and jill are two of the main cast members to one of the most hated ff games to come out in recent memory like why does everyone hate xvi. I can't stand this pattern

WIP Wednesday
WIP Wednesday, featuring The Winding Road
Tumblr media
Excerpt: “Iris, we’re ready,” Gladio called from the main living area. “Just a sec,” she called back. Since she was out of her seat, she was going to take the opportunity to check on Callie. It probably didn’t mean anything for once, but her ‘niece’ was a little too quiet.
She cracked open the bedroom door. The child had fallen asleep playing her Switch, stretched out on her stomach on a quilt of patterned mandalas. There was an utterly boneless quality to the way she lay on the bed; her arms were folded beneath her torso, fingers still near the Switch. It couldn’t have been long. She could still hear the cheerful victory music from her game but knew she might wake her if she tried to slip in and turn it off.
Better she sleep through this meeting.
With a smile, Iris quietly shut the red, upholstered bedroom door. “Iris,” Gladio drew her name out to several times its actual length, just as he used to do when she was little.
“No rush,” Matthias Vivas had flown in with Aranea to present his preliminary findings, and none of them suspected it was good news. She remembered him as a pimple-faced teen of few words; it weirded her out seeing him as a Kingsglaive officer now. “It’s fine."
“I’m coming! Jeez,” Iris made her way through the ornate suite of rooms back to the main living area. She snatched a tufted velvet pillow in a warm sage green with magenta piping as she passed and smacked her brother lightly upside the head.
“Ow,” Gladio said without any real emotion behind it and allowed the soft pillow to fall into his lap.
As soon as she hopped over the back of the sofa and settled against the arm, he reciprocated by whipping the pillow at her face. She didn’t even try to deflect or block it, instead choosing to deadpan an “Ow” of her own when it hit her and fell to the plushly carpeted floor.
As always, Luna’s laugh could coax a rare smile from Noct. Ignis’s body twitched in a silent laugh, likely guessing what had happened by sound alone. As usual, Aranea’s derisive snort said one thing, but her smirk said otherwise.
“Sleeping?” Prompto asked softly from the armchair behind her, and she replied with a thumbs up.
“We good?” Matt asked casually.
“Yes,” Noctis said. His voice was starting to sound and look much better now, save for the periodic “death cough,” as Prompto called it. “Please begin.”

For your NyxNoct prompt sentence -
"I always hoped— but to actually hear you say it is better than I'd ever dreamed."
In the ten years Noctis had spent within the crystal, even when he thought he had finally accepted the weight of an unbreakable fate, there were always the What Ifs in the back of his mind. The 'Maybe it doesn't have to be this way' trains of thoughts. The pondering of whether or not he could come up with another way to fix things.
He had no doubt given up hope shortly before he awoke at Angelgard. Though he hoped that Nyx and his friends wouldn't try to save him. At that point, in the poor state of the world, it was easier to accept fate. To lie down and pass on the light they'd all been deprived of for a decade, even if that thought terrified him.
There's no other way. The gods said it, therefore it must be.
What a load of shit.
Noctis still isn't entirely sure how they did it. He's not quite sure how he's sitting here at the top of the Citadel's steps, the suit of his raiment tattered and sullied with dirt and dried blood. There's a singed tear in the fabric at the center of his chest, a jagged scar that would suggest the wound is months old rather than fresh, and a dull phantom ache lingering beneath the skin.
The sun is refreshingly warm on his face. There's no cold clutch of an ancestral ring on his finger. The city, while it might appear to be in shambles at the first few glances, is far from unsalvagable.
In due time, the world will recover. For now, however...
"Can you say it again?" Noctis asks quietly, voice on the verge of breaking as he turns his head to Nyx beside him.
Nyx, who is a little more battle worn from when Noctis first entered the crystal. He bears the same jagged white facial scars that mark his survival from the city's initial fall. There are heavy bags under his blue eyes that bear a decade's worth of sleepless nights and ruthless daemon battles. His hair is now long and braided, beads of Galahd tradition still woven in near the scalp, among a few new ones Noctis hasn't had the chance to ask about yet. Though there are more streaks of silver in Nyx's hair than Noct remembers. He knows one is but another souvenir of that damn ring Nyx dared to become worthy of so long ago. The others... Noctis always wondered if something from that brief possession of power always stuck with Nyx.
Wrinkles form at the corner of Nyx's eyes as he focuses on Noct, discerning the unspoken plea behind his request. He seems like he understands as he scoots closer to Noctis and gently rests his gloved hand over Noct's.
Say it again so I know it's real.
"We made it, Noct." Nyx says softly, smiling as his eyes grow wet and glint under the rays of the first sun in ten years. "Against all the odds, we made it."
Funny enough, while it's better than what he could have ever dreamed, it's more than he can bear. He exhales shakily and finds himself naturally leaning against Nyx, resting a weary head on an equally weary shoulder. Nyx then rests his own head against Noct's, squeezing his hand in reassurance that it's all real.
His friends approach from behind to help him bear the rest as they take in the dawn. Gladio and Ignis settle behind them, each resting a hand on Noct's shoulders and kneading them encouragingly. Prompto settles down on Noct's other side and leans in close, holding his other hand.
It's more than Noctis can bear in the best way possible. More so when he sees Cor pausing in his steps up ahead, Iris, Libertus and Aranea doing the same; seemingly wondering if they see what they think they see. They all start running towards the steps as Nyx and his friends hug him tight.
Noctis closes his eyes to bask under the sun as he takes a deep breath, and Nyx utters softly:
"Long live the King of Light."

Hi, thank you so much for unleashing your fils unto our universe! I have a prompt for when you feel like it: in SIO, how did Libertus and Leto meet and start dating?
Thanks again!
The first week, it was easy enough to cover the shifts to look after Nyx. The second less so, but they had managed just fine. By the fourth week, however, Cor was an exhausted mess, Aranea was a frothing mess and Prompto was an anxious mess. So Letho made an executive decision and took the night shift, every single day, and gently but firmly invited all three to go home and get some rest. Night shift wasn't a big deal, as far as she was concerned, Nyx would spend most of the night asleep and when he wasn't, he mostly read or watched TV.
At least, that was the plan.
On Monday, about eleven, Libertus showed up. Letho knew Libertus as Nyx's grumpy and generally not very amicable brother, but in her experience, that was to be expected. Libertus - and Nyx - were Galahdian, and Letho was not. She kept very cordial relationships with the Galahdian community in general, as she'd over the years become something of a linchpin of the community, helping their kids navigate the education system and generally looking out for them. But it was one thing, of course, to be a decent sort of Lucian, and another to be a friend. And Nyx and Letho were friends, the sort that ate together and drank together and got into silly bickering fits just for fun. And she knew, Galahdians didn't like that. She didn't even blame them. Working so closely with them and seeing the way they were treated, Letho thought it said something about them, as a culture, that the worst they did was close ranks around each other and refuse to let strangers into their social circle if they didn't prove themselves first.
Nonetheless, Letho had proved herself... to Nyx. Not to Nyx's brother, who seemed to think she wasn't trustworthy enough to keep watch, and so he'd decided to park himself in the other, equally uncomfortable armchair in the room with her, with only a quiet, irritable grunt as a greeting. Not ideal, of course, but also... well. She wasn't scared of him, for all he postured and huffed and puffed at her, every time they happened to meet each other. He was Nyx's brother. So they sank into semi-comfortable quiet, each focused on a book of their own, with only the steady beeping of the monitors keeping track of Nyx's continued not-dying and the soft hum of the news playing on the TV as background noise. Despite herself, Letho found herself listening to the news, attention split with the habit of looking of upwards to fifty individual children, all clamoring for attention, all at once, so when the segment turned into a discussion about taxes, Letho let out an unconscious, yet very sarcastic ha under her breath.
"What was that?" Libertus rumbled, to her right, squinting suspiciously.
And perhaps because it was two in the morning and she'd been up since six, Letho found herself answering sincerely.
"Oh, the new tax proposal is bullshit," she said, rolling her eyes. "Everyone knows it's just EXINERIS throwing a tantrum because they didn't win the bid for Insomnia's power grid." She rolled her eyes. "Again."
Libertus tilted his head sideways and back, a little, and Letho couldn't help but think of a crow, when he did that. It was very bird-like, that gesture, and Nyx did it too. But where Nyx was playful, Libertus looked calculating. Measuring. Always on guard.
"They're taxing gas," he said, after a moment, "not the power grid."
"Well, yeah, but that's their angle," Letho replied, shrugging. "Insomnia itself is pretty clean, energy-wise. Cleaner than EXINERIS, any way. So it's not like gas hiking up will hurt them, directly. But the people outside Insomnia, in the fringes between the power grids, they live or die on gas for generators and trucks. And sure, the bulk of Insomnia is fed by Izl, but since the ceasefire, a lot more stuff is coming in from Cleigne and Duscae, and people will feel it when those prices hike up to make up for the new gas tax." She paused. "Well, they'll try. Chances are they're going to get shot down again." She snorted. "They get shot down every year. But it's very frustrating that they keep trying. At least the Lord of Cavaugh is pretty consistent in keeping region taxes low."
Well, he better be, she did not add out loud. If Cor suddenly went around raising taxes and fucking people over, Letho was pretty sure Nyx would strangle him before she got the chance to do it.
"Hm," Libertus said after a moment, before shuffling in place. "That sounds daft."
Letho did not disagree, and considered the night as success because around four, when they reran the roundtable discussing the tax law proposal, they ended up talking about it. And it was... well. Nice. Libertus was surprisingly incisive when he let himself speak in words and not just disgruntled noises. But he was lacking a lot of context, and it clearly annoyed him.
So on Tuesday, at nine, Letho herded Cor and Prompto out of the room and took her place in the genuinely super uncomfortable armchair and felt very silly right up until Libertus showed up at twelve. Then she spent about an hour meandering inside her own head, trying to figure out how to actually offer and trying her best not to come off as condescending in the process, before giving up and just going for blunt.
"Here," she said, passing along a small - for her! - stack of books to him. "You sounded interested, yesterday. I hope it's not presumptuous of me."
They were not the sort of books she'd lend Nyx. These were dry with tax code history and energy grid politics and a very intractable door stopper of economics essays that nonetheless had, when she'd been twenty, cracked her skull wide open, metaphorically speaking, and shed light on a lot of until then incomprehensible political maneuvering she'd always been baffled by, in the news.
Libertus grunted.
She chose to believe that was an approving grunt, even though it sounded exactly the same as the rest of his grunts.
She knew for sure on Wednesday, because Libertus was there at ten, with an entire stack of annotation cards and a combative look on his face. Privately, she was very jealous of the fact he'd managed to devour every book she'd lent him, in a day. And he'd read them, too, the annotation cards were not for show. He had very pointed, very incisive comments on literally everything, and really, really deep down, so far down she didn't dare acknowledge the thought, she thought that was hot.
A little.
Nyx kicked them out of his room around two and they ended up in the smoking bench in the Hospital's gardens for about two hours, completely absorbed by the discussion. Which was nowhere near done by the time they excused themselves and let Cor take over the post, so on Thursday they picked up right where they left off. Friday things got heated and stubborn and snarky, because they were done discussing theory and now they were fully on opinion and personal experience and... well. Libertus was Galahdian, and Letho was not.
It was fun, was the thing.
Libertus was a ruthless, cunning, argumentative monster, but he limited himself to argue his point and attacking hers, not her. It was very fun to get into an actual fight with someone, and not be insulted. And oh, he was smart. Vicious and relentless and very stupidly witty.
So yeah, okay. A little more than just a little hot.
"Savis."
Letho stopped and found Libertus looming a few feet away from her, frowning up a storm. And suddenly, in the early Saturday morning light, out in the street, she felt a little nervous, because Nyx wasn't there anymore, to mediate by virtue of being unconscious in a corner. It was just them, and the scant few people out and about so early on a weekend.
"Letho," Libertus said, gruffly correcting himself, and scowled even more.
"Yes?" She asked, trying to not let it show how nervous she was, all of a sudden, as he slowly climbed down the Hospital's front steps to come stand next to her on the sidewalk.
Libertus tilted his head back, bird-like all over again, but it was different and she couldn't put her finger on why, until he said:
"You wanna grab breakfast?"
Because he was Galahdian, and it meant something - a lot of things! - that he offered.
"That sounds lovely," Letho said, because it was, and hoped to any god listening that the heat on her face was from the morning sun and not. Well.
Everything else.

Final Fantasy XV Rant
OK!!!! So I finally finished playing Final Fantasy XV as I had tried to play it multiple times over the years on different systems, but life always got in the way of me finishing it. Even now, I didn't play the game for almost a year before I finally finished it last night....and I have a few things to say...
I CANNOT BELIEVE THOSE FREAKING GODS! I am a huge fan of Percy Jackson, so when the game began mentioning gods and prophecies, I was like "OKAY BITCHES! LET'S SEE HOW WE CAN FIGHT IT!" nope....you can't change the fate of Noctis Lucis Caelum.....*Cue sad face*
Noctis and Luna need all the love and affection in the world. I will happily fight anyone and everyone to somehow travel to the beyond to make sure they get cuddles and snuggles and hugs and love.
Prompto's backstory is probably my favorite next to Ardyn's - I will get to him in a minute. That blonde boy needs to be protected with every power available. He did not deserve what happened to him, and I am glad he was able to befriend Noctis, Gladiolus, and Ignis.
Aranea is hot, and you cannot tell me otherwise....FIGHT ME!
Ardyn did not deserve to be duped like that. He was freaking healer! HE WAS HELPING PEOPLE! Those stupid gods totally set him up when they blessed him...who wants to join me to go rip them a new one on Ardyn's behalf?
Sooooo as you can see....I may be a little too emotionally invested in this game....as a result I now have lots of ideas of what to do. Fics, imagines, and headcanons will be coming soon y'all!

❝ well i mean we are in some abandoned magical building fighting monsters trying to find mythril. ❞
how aranea and the others were so casual about all this, he'll never know. even so, he dutifully trailed behind them, shooting with deadly accuracy even in the low lighting. still, he had to wonder why they had to do this at all when there was clearing anyone else that could do this. he didn't voice his thoughts though, because there really was nothing else they could do given they were already down here. so he just sighed, reloading his pistols as they walked over a magically reconstructed bridge.
❝ this really does feel like some horror movie though. like we're gonna turn the corner and bam there's a serial killer just waiting to dice us up. ❞

Never Let Me Go: Chapter Twenty-Eight
Masterlist Chapter Twenty-Seven Chapter Twenty-Nine
Words Count: 1,434

Time to leave Tenebrae and continue to Gralea. Of course, things can never be that simple for the weary remaining Crownsguard, as they encounter the fallen corpse of Shiva, the Glacian...
I woke up to someone knocking on the door. "Gaia. We're getting ready to leave," Noctis called from behind the door.
I sighed. "I'll be out in a moment," I responded. Ravus stirred a bit, just barely waking up.
"Was that Noctis?" He asked, looking at me with half-lidded eyes. He was still tired.
I nodded slightly before kissing him. "Yeah," I answered, our lips still barely touching. "I have to get ready to go soon."
"This always happens, why must their timing be so horrible," he muttered before kissing me again.
"I wouldn't be too surprised if they were planning it though," I laughed softly. "The number of times they either interrupt or bother us when we're together."
"Do you know your plan once you are done in Gralea?" He asked, pulling me close.
"No, I don't. I'm probably going to try to figure that out on our way there," I shrugged. "But I want to be with you again as soon as possible."
Ravus hummed softly. "That would be wonderful," he responded.
I sighed and got out of bed. I quickly got dressed and grabbed my things. "I'll see you later," I smiled slightly. I kissed him one last time before leaving Ravus's room and walking to the others.
"Sorry I took so long," I laughed awkwardly. "I'm still really tired."
"I assume Ravus didn't want you to leave?" Noctis asked.
"A little bit, yeah," I nodded.
"Shall we get going?" Ignis asked. "Assuming everyone is ready."
"Ready as I can be," I shrugged. "What about you guys?"
"Let's get going," Noctis nodded.
Gladio nodded and we made our way back to the station. "There's a good chance the chancellor got his hands on Prompto," his tone was rather blunt as he spoke. "Just hope he doesn't mess with him too bad."
"If he did, do I have permission to kill him myself?" I asked.
"You can attack him, how about that?" Noctis responded. Despite his somber tone, I was pretty sure he was at least half joking.
"Gaia. Did Ravus still have his majesty's glaive?" Ignis asked me.
"I believe so. I think he wants to hand it over at Gralea since we're both headed that way. Doubt even I can change his mind about that," I laughed softly.
"Then we'll just have to trust him and meet him there," Noctis shrugged.
Aranea's men were waiting for us by the train. Before we could leave, however, someone approached us.
Aranea. "Don't worry about the civilians, they're in my good hands," she told us. Her voice lacked the usual confidence. "Can't say the same for you. Watch yourselves in the capital."
Ignis smiled slightly. "We will," he responded.
"Thanks, Aranea. We'll see you around," Noctis nodded. The train was ready to depart, so there wasn't much time for a more heartfelt goodbye. I sprinted to catch up to Ignis and Gladio. Something caught Noctis's eye, causing me to look back. He was standing just outside the door. "It's snowing," he mumbled.
He was right. It must have just started, given the small number of snowflakes dancing in the air in front of us.
"Get your ass on board!" Gladio yelled to Noctis. He quickly did so, and we found our seats. Gladio and Ignis sitting at one table, Noctis and I at another.
"Hey, when we get done with this," I began after a moment of awkward silence. "Going to Gralea I mean. When we get back to Lucis, I want to talk to you guys about something."
"You planning on ditching us for Ravus after we get back?" Noctis asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No, no. I'm part of the Crownsguard. That won't change. And even if I did decide to move to Tenebrae, all that would be is a change of scenery. You know you can call on me if you need me," I responded. "You guys took me in and kept me even after you found out what I am. You won't be getting rid of me that easily now."
"Why can't you tell us now?" Gladio asked, crossing his arms.
"We have enough on our plate. Gaia will tell us when she wants to," Ignis responded.
I nodded slightly. "And I'd rather have Prompto here too," I responded.
The speakers in the train car crackled to life. "Oi! Uh, attention all passengers!" Biggs spoke. "We're on our way to our final destination in the imperial capital! Enjoy the ride. I'll be in touch if anything comes up."
Gladio looked out the window. "Look at all that snow. No wonder it's so cold in here," he chuckled.
"We must be approaching the Glacian's cadaver," Ignis responded.
I glanced out the window. "Damn, Shiva's corpse?"
Gladio nodded. "Won't be a blessing if all we got's a body."
"Let us hope we pass through the gorge without incident," Ignis sighed.
"We're still just brushing over the fact that Shiva's corpse is laying out there?" I asked. My question fell on deaf ears.
"It's what's after the gorge I'm worried about." Gladio crossed his arms.
Noctis sighed and got up. "I need to stretch a bit," he mumbled, walking away and into one of the other train cars.
The train's brakes screeched and we soon found ourselves at a halt. Gladio stood up and huffed. "I wonder what it could be this time," he muttered.
The speaker came to life again. "Attention!"
"What's wrong?" Noctis ran back to us.
"You may have noticed we've stopped. As for the cause," Biggs explained. "As for the cause... Outside, you think?"
"We'll take a look."
"Hope it's just a quick snow-shoveling job," Gladio muttered as we made our way outside.
The snow was worse than before. I looked around and found the cause for the near-blizzard conditions. Shiva's corpse was nearby.
Noctis shivered as soon as we stepped out onto the tracks. "It's freezing!" He hissed.
I fumbled with the zipper to my jacket but managed to zip it up. He was right, it was way too cold for comfort.
"Better keep moving to stay warm," Gladio told us as he walked ahead.
"The Glacian did this," Ignis mumbled as we walked. Ice covered the tracks and was even building up on the train itself. Not like frost on a window during a cold morning. The train was quite literally being encased in ice.
Just our luck, daemons emerged nearby. A wraith and a small hoard of goblin-like creatures. I huffed, kicking one of the goblins away before turning my axe on the wraith. It posed the bigger threat right now.
We were quiet, focusing on the task at hand. Without Prompto, there wasn't much to say while fighting.
Eventually, the daemons fell. My axe felt too cold in my hands. "So much for getting this done quickly," I laughed sarcastically.
Just then a giant daemon, unlike any we'd seen before emerged before us. The best way I could describe it would have been like a mutated spider. It stood on four legs, with four arms that seemed to be made up of a single claw. Noctis and Gladio engaged it immediately. I switched my axe out for my sword, ready to face the unknown monster before us.
"What the hell is this thing?" I yelled.
"Probably another one of the empire's toys," Gladio muttered.
Noctis huffed and summoned his Armiger, taking to the air and attacking it rapidly. We kept on the offensive, and eventually, the creature fell with one last growl. I sighed and put my sword away, watching the daemon dissolve into a cloud of miasma.
"Hurry up. Ain't got time to waste," Gladio motioned back to the train.
"Think I don't know that?" Noctis huffed, turning to face him. "Just let me catch my breath."
I nodded slightly. "We're going back in the train then," I responded. I looked over at Gladio and Ignis, letting them enter first before following them.
For some strange reason, it was much colder inside the train. I huffed, adjusting my jacket. Gladio turned to the door to yell for Noctis. Something was not right.
I pressed forward, Ignis and Gladio joining me soon after. The temperature kept dropping. I felt tired. Sluggish. I walked over to one of the seats. It had snow built up on it, almost like it was outside. I'm just going to sit down for a moment, then we can continue figuring out what's going on, I told myself.
Then I collapsed. It was hard to keep my eyes open. My last thoughts before blacking out were that this had something to do with Ardyn. It just had to be...

Finished episode prompto. It was good though not my fave of the three DLC (thats still ep ignis) and honestly the robot monkey was more menacing than finding out the ultimate weapon of the mad scientist is a giant robot sandworm... snow worm....
Also I think it was a missed opportunity to not have Prompto VA also voice Besitihia. Maybe he couldn't get the Old Dude voice right?
That aside things I really liked:
- Prompto's combat even tho I hate FPS, so less about playing and more just the concept. Specifically I liked that he has close range option even tho never seen in game... it makes sense. Stealing weapons never got old either.
- that scene where Prompto is full on spiraling and shoots that MT in the face? 10/10
- also the burn the barcode option that was good
- ARANEA my beloved. Love how she calls him a kid. She's got to be over 30 me thinks, which is good because this game desperately needs more female characters....
Things I liked but exasperated me:
- Ravus was the one to propose and plan the invasion of Insomnia. This literally never gets mentioned elsewhere? Same "tf game.why is this optional content and not a major conflict" as Ravus being put in charge of Insomnia after it falls and then repeatedly ditching his post
- Ardyn being a major force behind the MT process is... I'm not against it per say, but I'm generally not fond of narratives trying to pin All The Evil on This One Dude. I liked it much more when I thought Ardyn had just pointed Besithia in the correct direction a little bit, but Besithia did most of the work. Which is still a valid reading of the situation I think. I just really loved how Besithia began as just traumatized by seeing his comrades die and trying to find a way to stop that, only to go fully insane.
Things I wonder about:
- this is a huge area. I can't help but wonder if we were originally supposed to go through it in the main game.
- I haven't yet rescued prompto in main game so I'm very curious if the credits convo with noctis is dlc exclusive. It's good I really like it also prompto looks Rough
Things that amuse me:
- ardyn literally just scattered around all the relevant records in our path so I'm going to imagine that before this he spent a while listening to every report to find the most relevant ones to Prompto, Besithia Insanity ASMR
- Prompto you just took the snowmobile and left Aranea behind huh
- also he and Aranea just chilling at vending machines like a pair of loiterers is kinda funny
Overall fun time I guess. Wild to think none of these DLC were available at start of game. What in the world did people think prompto had gone through???
Also I genuinely thought MT were prompto clones themselves not just the prompto clones being robot fuel....

wip file name ask game
tagged by @every-lemon :D
RULES: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPS.
A Google Drive can be a WIP folder, right? Right. I assumed this was related to fan stuff, so I didn't include original fic, OGN scripts, or any game-writing stuff. I also didn't include files for WIPs that I've already started posting (ie. Desperado, my four whole Besmirched docs, etc.)
On my personal email, I've got:
June 15th (Kyrie Fic)
Same email, in my FFXV Gen. folder:
COMIXV
Misc. Fic
That last one is no longer just XV tho so I should probably move it LMAO somehow, I ended up being very organized... On my work/public/sharey sharey email:
Fugue, fulgur
Old Viewbliss Road
waahh Lemon tagged most of the people whose tumblrs I know who I also know for sure write fic - fanfic or otherwise - so here's my open call to followers/moots (feel free to tag me so I can seeee). And, because it's no fun if I don't say what's in my big comp docs, here are the subheadings for unfinished stuff you can ask about in…
COMIXV, where my FFXV fancomic ideas go to die:
Splinterbone
Here
Nox
Claymore
Ardyn Daemonifies Ravus
Prompto Meets Luna, version 2
Luna Puts on the Ring

Prompto Meets Luna, version 1
V2, Comrades: Ravus and Iris

EP: Prompto and Aranea Talk

heh... this would be a perfect time to ask... what's the plot of your ffxv rewrite? how different is it from the original, y'know? i'd love to hear what you have planned for any characters in particular, like prompto... or if you plan on giving some characters more importance? i hope those questions are good :)
FUCK YEAH they're great questions thank u thank you
so primarily the big conceit behind this au is to focus in on a unifying theme, and tweaking the plot in order to align to that theme rather than bouncing all over the place the way canon does. in this case, our theme is monarchy itself, exploring concepts of sovereignty and linage on every level, with the inevitable conclusion being, to put it in a gauche way: "monarchy bad, actually"
the magic system in the au is focused on royal blood, with nearly all magic tied to the royal lineage of the different kingdoms, and bestowed beyond royal blood only to those who swear a binding oath to a royal, with their powers conditional on maintaining that oath. there's a lot of other little changes i made to the Primals / pantheon and Armiger and stuff like that, in order to just like. clear up a lot of the weird inconsistent vagueness and hand-waving in canon. but the biggest change by far is to Ardyn
Tumblr media
Ardyn, in the au, is an immortal pedigree-obsessed weirdo whose primary plan is to prune the "impure" bloodlines in Lucis and Nifelhiem, while basically forcing Noctis and Lunafreya (who are very good friends and maybe are romantically interested in each other but having their autonomy revoked in this way is deeply fucked up) to get married and have kids, uniting their own lineages, while he slaughters a bunch of people and forcibly unites all nations under one banner like the good old days when he was king.
Tumblr media
his continued existence is literally tied to the kingdoms, and he is defeated only when the Emperor of Nifelhiem is killed, and Noctis and Lunafreya both renounce their titles and ritualistically destroy the thrones of their respective kingdoms.
Cor also has a hugely different and important role, becoming Noctis's active proxy-father because Regis is kind of a neglectful piece of shit. He's the one who ends up dying in Tennabrae when Ardyn reveals himself as the puppeteer, and Noctis's connection to him and his late commonborn mother (in this au, Noct has a ton of siblings and is a bastard child, last in line for the throne, thus why he's a rebellious punk being shipped off to another kingdom for a political marriage) is what eventually leads him to decide to relinquish his position as king for the betterment of his people.
Tumblr media
As for Prompto! His whole dealio is pretty similar to canon, that he's the end result of a ton of fucked-up experiments by Nifelhiem. In this case though, the experiments were an attempt to artificially create proxy royal blood, implied to be Ardyn's initiative.
Oh, and Prompto's friendship with Noct gets way way more developed.
Tumblr media
(this is the first time Noct is able to summon the armiger after Cor dies)
Tumblr media
And his foil with Aranea is emphasized as well! cause in the AU, she's basically a former pirate who submitted to becoming a magitek soldier, which involved a lot of fucked up experiments. So Prompto, as soon as he hears this, is immediately like "oh shit big sister located" kdjfbgjhb
(tw for implied mutilation)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like tbh prompto's characterization is kind of aces in canon ffxv, so there's not a lot I need to change. Ep Prompto is probably the best part of the game and im still so mad it's relegated to DLC, I will never shut up about that.
anyway i literally wrote like a 50 page something infodump to @triskaidekaphilist over discord so i've got So Much Fucking Content djhgfbjhb as long as you like messy summaries and beta dialogue
