It’s been quite awhile and yet I still remain a devoted fan of this wonderful series. I’m doing a rewatch of the series to coincide with the third anniversary of Swamp Thing and the first episode still remains my favorite.

It was a marvelous introduction to our characters and to the intriguing setting of Marais. The unpleasant body horror was coupled with emotional scenes between Abby and Maria and Abby and Alec and the audience was given a hint of what might have been between Abby and Alec.

A small part of me still hopes that Swamp Thing may receive a renewal or possibly a feature in another series. But even if it doesn’t come to pass, I’m still grateful to have been granted this series and the memories of its fandom when it was active.

Little Giant Tommy: P-p-people come out from the suitcase?!

Pumpkin-Head Jame: Agh, it’s a weirdo’s case! She knows dark magic. Run!

Vertin: This is my suitcase, please give it back to me.

Little Giant Tommy: No! Don’t touch me! Imma give it to the officer!

Pumpkin-Head Jame: Haha! Kiss my ass! You damn Basilisk losers!

APPLe: … When a pirate meets robbers? Robbing is not a good behaviour that you kids should learn.

Pumpkin-Head Jame: That apple is talking! Ew!! Throw rocks at it!!

APPLe: Aww …! Looks like the generation we’ve met is not quite friendly.

Vertin: If they shake the suitcase like this, Regulus will probably fall apart. Mr. APPLe, I need your help.

APPLe: My pleasure. This APPLe will shed some light on Justice for them—well won’t violate the Declaration of the Rights of the Child.

Vertin: Hide it in the tree hole this time. It shouldn’t be that easy to be found.

APPLe: The situation of the arcanists 40 years ago looked much worse than ours. At least we can still talk to the human.

Vertin: Okay.

Vertin: Regulus?

There is only echo. And no sign of Regulus.

Vertin: No one’s here. The light is off. Did she go to another room?

Outside of the window, someone’s singing faintly comes from the direction of the lake.

Regulus: Haha … ♪

Vertin: Regulus! Why are you there?

The sceneries keep changing outside the window. But no matter how often they change, the lake and half of the spinning wheel in the water stay the same.

Regulus: *sobs* … The records … Don’t nick my records …

Vertin: …! Her voice doesn’t sound right. I should go and take a look.

…

This is where Vertin has never been.

Vertin: Regulus! Regulus! I can’t see her at all … The fog is getting thicker …

Vertin goes closer and finds half a spinning wheel in the middle of the lake, with strange threads on it.

Vertin: … The line is two-dimensional?

The water rises. More and more water rises. Water of the “Storm” has covered the ground, but it doesn’t weigh or feel like real water. It is just flowing slowly, just as time does.

Vertin: Time … I seem to have seen this … It’s … I …

The line in her hand, technically the line-like thing in her hand which cannot be felt in any way, has gradually formed a path in her sight. And someone is going to be invited over.

Vertin: … Hm?

Sonetto: … Timekeeper?! Yes! Ahh, ahem, I … I’m just thinking about how to find you. May I ask where is this place? Did you use the advanced arcane skill, “Aferoj Around”, No. 000262603100008, to send me over? No, it should not be this …

Vertin: Sonetto?! Why are … Is it because I touched … that line?

While Sonetto is still feeling surprised for seeing Vertin, someone’s snore comes from somewhere close.

Regulus: *grunting*

As the fog lifts, Regulus who is fast asleep finally shows up with a rock in her arms.

Sonetto: Regulus?! Madam Z is right! She said Regulus was with you!

Vertin: What?!

Sonetto: Regulus, she … Hmm? She seems to be asleep … well … Umm … I am also a bit like … quite dizzy …?

Vertin: Why did you all black out? What happened? I don’t seem to be affected …

On the lake, the spinning wheel is still shimmering.

Vertin: Hmm … I should come back and check again later. *take them away first.*

The sound of water is left behind her.

Oh my goodness I loved this. 1x01 of The Winchesters, let's goooooo.

This was a strong pilot episode, the whole cast is excellent with each bringing their own energy and doing well with the hints of depths to come on all of them. The John-Mary-Carlos-Latika interplay really snaps, and there's the different relationships inside the group, surrounding John and Mary's early connection and pining. But all these friendships and relationships are going to be really fun to watch unfold. Millie and Ada are luminous, both serving in the gravitas roles to flank the main four and add some ballast.

Really enjoying the entire gestalt of this, the look, tone, and visual style. Those NOLA locations are gorgeous and the perfect backdrop--they filmed at an old fort for this one.

The arcane lore and books and hidden chambers, the monsters, the family multigenerational traumas and secrets, it even goes a bit Indiana Jones mood a few times which is a delightful flourish.

The core driving theme of it being about connections and family and friendships and all kinds of love, the hurt in their back stories. John coming back from 'Nam already having nightmares on the bus to Lawrence. John having a sweetness and innocence to him but the darkness is already starting to show. We are going to see him utterly "ruined." Millie trying so hard to save and protect her son, to protect what is left of her fractured family, but also knowing she has to let him find his own path. Mary's closeness to her family, the trust she has with her father, but also aching to escape that life. Her bossiness and her hard facade while she keeps showing what a soft heart she has. Her grief for her cousin Maggie who was like a sister to her. (Maggie flashbacks when????) John and Mary both looking for missing fathers. Carlos losing his whole family to a monster and knowing how grim things are for hunters yet has his unquenchable spirit and he's every bit a tough, skilled hunter, but also plays guitar and relishes humor. Latika just starting to get out there in the field as a hunter, with her main strength right now her intellect but we know she's going to do more than just that. I'm so curious to see her have to kill something and get blood-splattered and see her shock at what she just did and at the same time want to protect her from all harm. Latika seems like a gentle heart who is going to be capable of ruthlessness when it's needed. Ada in just a few introductory moments already clearly a caring, strong willed person who refuses to quit fighting, and is already in the thick of it with the hunter team.

There's a lot here already with loss and trying to save the ones you've got. Carlos killed the ghoul that killed his family but couldn't save them. Millie having Henry slip away from her, and not able to save her son, but trying to. Mary unable to save her cousin Maggie, and now trying to find and save her father. John unable to save Murph and now haunted by his memory. Latika unlocking the dark forces of the monster trap box to save everybody from the loup-garou.

And there's our Dean. Standing by the side of the road, writing in his journal, telling the story and putting together the pieces of the past, to help make sense of who he is and where he came from, and he's picking his own music. Reclaiming the narrative like the badass he always is.

This has been in my drafts for a while. For now I decided I don't want to finish Edgerunners. I watched until ep6 and stopped. It's boring, very average, and disappointing, considering all the hype. I'm posting it just so I remember this. The best thing about this show was all 5 seconds of Rogue. My queen. The game is way better.

1x01.

I understand where that is coming from, but damn.

Overall, quite in character for the universe, I think. While in the gave we've been stripped of everything, Jackie helps us. And by the time we get to play, we already have *some* chrome and abilities. Personally, I like to loot everything I see and then sell. Then upgrade my characters, start crafting, money come with gigs.

This dude? Still a kid, had nothing, everyone wants to rip him off, even his fixer is a piece of shit (while V has Viktor whose an absolute sweetheart, and Johnny had his own fixer that would fix Johnny no matter how bad Johnny was willing to fuck his body (read: new liver getting installed without being asked bc the older one was completely destroyed.))

The music was very nice! All the sounds of calls, the stylization, the apartment, the city. Goons shooting you bc they're chasing other goons. Just yesterday I encountered cops in the game that were chasing some goons and shooting them & they pushed V aside with their car. When I helped the cops but got too close, they were ready to attack me, too. While other cops in another situation exhale in relief and thank me. What a wild universe.

I'm sad the series has anime style, I'd prefer something out of Arcane, but for the lack of anything else, I'll have to take this.

1x02.

Ahhh!!! This would've been SO good in realism. I still haven't tried those arms btw. So used to non-lethal.

I hope his ripperdoc get DESTROYED. Vik would beat the shit out of him & rightfully so.

I don't understand why David keeps coming back to his shitty ripper that doesn't even give him any kind of pain numbing, especially now that he has eddies. And there's so much blood. C'mon, where's Viktor? Honestly, any decent ripper?

Now I kinda feel like Lucy's gonna die or something like that. Kid, it's time for you to go to bed. Stop with this childish nonsense.

This hetero romance was seen from miles away and I find it so boring? Honestly, an older terrorist in your head is so much more fun than... this. Unless she's real wild, I don't dig it. And I think I'd like to be more gay or something.

Really good music is playing, though, when they kiss.

1x06 is so boring. Fast forwarded just like that. What was all the fuss about? This anime is so average, boring, and disappointing. The game is SO much better.

Marcus and Vi Parallels

Huh, the series draws an explicit parallel between Marcus and Vi in his and Grayson’s first scene.

Benzo, about Marcus: Lovely chap you brought. Grayson: Don’t mind the kid. Doesn’t know when to pipe down. Vander: Some things are the same topside and bottom.

Marcus and Vi are both cocky upstarts who don’t know the way of the world yet. They’re acting out because they are so confident in the supremacy of their respective sides.

Their leaders, Grayson and Vander, are trying to keep the peace. They have seen firsthand what happens in war, and they are taking responsibility to keep that from happening.

But Marcus and Vi are both screwing with the very tenuous balance between Piltover and not-quite-Zaun-yet, but from opposite sides.
