Aro Confederacy
The Aro Confederacy (1690–1902) was a political union orchestrated by the Aro people, Igbo subgroup, centered in Arochukwu in present-day southeastern Nigeria. The Aro Confederacy kingdom was founded after the beginning of the Aro-Ibibio Wars. Their influence and presence was all over Eastern Nigeria, lower Middle Belt, and parts of present-day Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea during the 18th and 19th centuries. The Arochukwu Kingdom was an economic, political, and an oracular center as it was home of the Ibini Ukpabi oracle, High Priests, the Aro King Eze Aro, and central council (Okpankpo). The Aro Confederacy was a powerful and influential political and economic alliance of various Igbo-speaking communities in southeastern Nigeria. It emerged during the 17th century and played a significant role in the region until the late 19th century.
The exact origins of the Aro Confederacy are not precisely documented, but it is believed to have been established around the mid-17th century. The Aro people, who were part of the Igbo ethnic group, inhabited the region around present-day Arochukwu in Abia State, Nigeria. They were skilled traders and missionaries who played a pivotal role in connecting various Igbo communities. This migration and their military power, and wars with neighboring kingdoms like supported by their alliances with several related neighboring Igbo and eastern Cross River militarized states (particularly Ohafia, Edda, Abam, Abiriba, Afikpo, Ekoi, Bahumono, Amasiri etc.), quickly established the Aro Confederacy as a regional economic power. The Aro Confederacy's strength came from its well-organized network of Aro agents who were dispersed across different communities in the region. These agents acted as intermediaries in trade, diplomacy, and religious matters. They facilitated commerce, resolved disputes, and spread the worship of the Aro deity known as the "Long Juju" oracle."The Opening Up of Nigeria, the Expedition Against the Aros by Richard Caton Woodville II" 1901
The "Long Juju" oracle was the spiritual centerpiece of the Aro Confederacy. It was housed in Arochukwu and considered a potent source of political authority and religious guidance. The Aro people used the oracle to enforce their influence and control over surrounding communities. It also served as a means to administer justice and settle disputes, often attracting pilgrims seeking solutions to their problems.
The Aro Confederacy gained significant economic power through trade and commerce Their economy was primarily based on agriculture, with the cultivation of crops like palm oil, yams, and cassava. They were also involved in trade with neighboring communities and European merchants. They controlled trade routes that passed through their territories, collecting tolls and taxes from traders. The Aro also engaged in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade by capturing and selling slaves to European traders.
Aro activities on the coast helped the growth of city-states in the Niger Delta, and these city states became important centres for the export of palm oil and slaves. Such city-states included Opobo, Bonny, Nembe, Calabar, as well as other slave trading city-states controlled by the Ijaw, Efik, and Igbo. The Aros formed a strong trading network, colonies, and incorporated hundreds of communities that formed into powerful kingdoms. The Ajalli, Arondizuogu, Ndikelionwu, and Igbene Kingdoms were some of the most powerful Aro states in the Confederacy after Arochukwu. Some were founded and named after commanders and chiefs like Izuogu Mgbokpo and Iheme who led Aro/Abam forces to conquer Ikpa Ora and founded Arondizuogu. Later Aro commanders such as Okoro Idozuka (also of Arondizuogu) expanded the state's borders through warfare at the start of the 19th century. Aro migrations also played a large role in the expansion of Ozizza, Afikpo, Amasiri, Izombe, and many other city-states. For example, Aro soldiers founded at least three villages in Ozizza. The Aro Confederacy's power, however, derived mostly from its economic and religious position. With European colonists on their way at the end of the 19th century, things changed.Burning of Arochukwu 1901
During the 1890s, the Royal Niger Company of Britain bore friction with the Aros because of their economic dominance. The Aro resisted British penetration in the hinterland because their economic and religious influence was being threatened. The Aro and their allies launched offensives against British allies in Igboland and Ibibioland. After failed negotiations, the British attempted to conquer the Aro Confederacy in 1899. By 1901, the tensions were especially intensified when British prepared for the Aro Expedition. The invasion of Obegu (in Igboland) was the last major Aro offensive before the start of the Anglo-Aro War. In November 1901, the British launched the Aro Expedition and after strong Aro resistance, Arochukwu was captured on December 28, 1901. By early 1902, the war was over, and the Aro Confederacy collapsed. Contrary to the belief that the Ibini Ukpabi was destroyed, the shrine still exists, and is intact in Arochukwu and serves mainly as a tourist site.

By • Olalekan Fagbade Monarch suspended by Govt over alleged abuse of office The traditional ruler of the Ibom Isi autonomous community in the Arochukwu council area of the state, Eze Kanu Nwa Kanu, has been suspended by the Abia State government over alleged abuse of office. In a letter from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, MLGCA/CH/S.5/S.4151, entitled 'Suspension from office as traditional ruler, addressed to Eze Dr. Kanu Nwa Kanu, Ibom Isii, Arochukwu Kingdom, and signed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu; the monarch was accused of flouting the provisions of the code of conduct for traditional rulers in Abia state as well as traditional rulers and autonomous communities law. The letter further stated that a disciplinary committee has been set up to investigate the activities of the traditional ruler and advise the government on the next step to be taken. “You are hereby suspended from office as a traditional ruler, Ibom Isii, Arochukwu kingdom, for flagrantly flouting the provisions of the code of conduct for traditional rulers in Abia state and the traditional rulers and autonomous communities law; via abuse of office and established cases of fragrant disregard of official directives of government. A disciplinary committee has been set up to further investigate your activities and advise the government on the next steps to be taken,” the statement read in part. The Vanguard reported that the state government took action against the traditional ruler over his action in crowning one of the contenders to the Eze Aro traditional stool, Goody Kanu Idei, against Prince Eberechukwu Oji, who was selected by the kingmakers of the kingdom. Sources said that after the announcement of the result declaring Oji as the Eze Aro designate; his opponent, Goody Kanu Idei, allegedly stormed out of the room, rejected the result and got Eze Ibom Isii, to crown him as the new Eze Aro of the Arochukwu kingdom. Piqued by the development, the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu kingdom, which feared that the action of the Eze Ibom Isii, could lead to the breakdown of law and order, petitioned the state government wielded the big stick against the Ibom Isii monarch. The palace of the Eze Aro insisted that the suspended Eze Ibom Isii had no traditional or cultural right or role to play in the selection of Eze Aro. “The selection of Eze Aro is the exclusive preserve of the Okennachi kindred which has followed the laid down process by selecting and presenting the new Eze Aro for the kingdom,” they said.

Fate Of Failed State
Nigeria a former British colony has been known to be the gaint of Africa, but the reality is that nigeria is a disgrace to Africa. I am going to give a detailed explanation to why Nigeria is a failed state and what will befall anyone who choose to die defending a dead unity in that Nigeria.
Tumblr media
Nigeria and her government is still under the control of colonial powers ,what we had in Nigeria was a flag independence but economically, politically, socially even mentally we are under the direct supervision and control of the imperialist, British, USA and France .
The British and west in general prefer to give aid to Nigerians rather than allow them control their government, elect their idea leaders and control their economy, they keep interfering into our politics because they clearly want to be in control of our vast resources. They continue to use the media to hide the truth , the silent every voice that speak , the stop every leader that will cut of the ties they have in Nigeria or any other African countries.
USA and Canada was a former British colony and they are doing well economically, they control their politics and economy. Why then is Nigeria with vast resources like crude oil, gold , Californium still very poor and backward.
When you (Britain) came to Nigeria in 1861, they came with Bible and a gun , they saw our crude oil and our heritage , they find different set of people with different ideology and cultural differences, but they put us all together and called us Nigerians before then our fathers fought against this white man decision of amalgamation.
the ekumeku warriors from anioma now Biafra land fought the British for 31 years 1883-1914 , but British forced them into Nigeria which is undemocratic, not religious but they did it nobody cares, after all they are Africans , "we are aid to them ''
the British war against arochukwu confederacy a biafran government before the British came , the was started in 1901-1902, the British killed this people because they didn't accepted their rulership in arochukwu a Biafraland but why is BBC News not remembering this kind of stories , why? Is the uk parliament acting so ignorant in the plea for Referendum in Nigeria because they want to control us till eternity
nigerians are not one people.
They people living in that country is racially divided and nothing can heal the grudge they have for each other not even negotiation for peace and unity.
Ethnic hate is very much that a single revolution can't happen in Nigeria because the rate of tribalism will not allow a revolution to eradicate bad rulers , the colonial powers and the imperialist know this and they prefer Nigeria by force than division a choice of the people.
The Biafran people agitating for a Referedum has suffer ethnic cleansing , mass murder and genocide ,in 1967/70 more than 6 million innocent children where killed by the combine force of Nigeria armed forces , Britain, USA , Egyptian pilots , Russians ammunition, the Biafrans has nothing to defend themselves, they fought and resisted this combine forces with home made arms.
They fought Nigeria government and their white ally because they wanted a solution to the harrasment, intimidation, ethnic descrimination, tribal hate , hate actions and killings
Who will not fight for survival?
They continue to kills us till date
During this war BBC News, CNN and others couldn't report this genocide committed by the British and Nigeria government on the innocent biafrans who only crime is to be born around crude oil and natural resources
During this war Food was not allowed entrance into the Biafran territory
It was a media and economic blockade
A genocide.
But today
The children of this heros and legends who fought for survival is asking peacefully for a Referedum date.
They are asking for a day to decide if they want to continue in this Nigeria.
Yet they kill them again
Britain and USA are acting ignorant again
Their media can't cover the Nigerian army kill and harrass Biafrans peaceful protesters
Nobody cares
When this young men who have chosen peace to get their stolen heritage~Biafra look for it in a violent way this media will call them terrorist it will no longer be a revolution as it should be .
Nigeria will fall
Biafra Referedum must hold
White supremacist, the imperialist must leave biafran territory and Africa in general

Democratic Governance in Pre-Colonial Igboland: A Historical Perspective
Prior to British colonisation in the 20th century, the Igbo people in southeastern Nigeria lived under a republican consultative assembly. Exceptions included the Priest-Kings of Nri and Aro, as well as notable towns like Onitsha, where the Obi ruled as king, and Arochukwu with the Eze Aro. An “Acephalous” Political System The Igbo pre-colonial political system was termed an “acephalous…
