A fine set of fetlocks! by National Library of Ireland on The Commons
Via Flickr:
Captain W.J. Baird, Aide de Camp to the Lord Lieutenant sits astride a really fine looking horse in this carefully posed image from the Poole Collection. Now we know the name of the soldier so now we want to know is the name of the horse??? +++ UPDATE +++ Thanks everyone, for confirmation that Captain James Baird was aide-de-camp to Lord Wimborne, Lord Lieutentant in Ireland, and that he was in that post in 1917 (newspaper reports). O Mac suggests Busoni as the horse's name, but we'd need some hard evidence. We're a tough crowd. Oh, and we always love to see John Spooner waxing lyrical about movable boudoirs! Photographer: A. H. Poole Collection: Poole Photographic Collection, Waterford Date: 1915 - 1917, most likely 1917 NLI Ref: POOLEWP 2734 You can also view this image, and many thousands of others, on the NLI’s catalogue at catalogue.nli.ie

Welcome To Sims3City!
They say if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere! Celebrities can be found wandering the shops and giving impromptu performances all over Sims3City. There's live show venues everywhere and it's easy to see why they say this city runs on dreams yet never sleeps!
I found this absolutely gorgeous map: Waterfall Beauty and just had to use it to make my own city world save! This map did come with lots already designated so I filled it up with the best townhouses, apartments, and city life buildings I could find or make to make my own version of a mashup of Starlight Shores and Bridgeport.
INTERESTING CHARACTERS
Every sim comes to Sims3City to make it big! With a performance venue on nearly every corner, you're sure to see:
The Warflowers - These twins started a band and pulled some of their reluctant friends into it. They know once they got here to The City, they would make it!
Chloe and Bob Katt - always on the hustle to make people believe in magic again!
The Myth family is here, of course, living in the spookiest house!
Mirage Sable always seems able to make everyone else's wishes come true, hoping one day her only one will, too!
Candice and Arthur finally made it to The City when Candice got her book deal. Arthur is hoping to make it into the celebrity chef business...with a little help from his friend and now roommate, Derek. This new relationship has a lot of challenges being thrown its way, but this couple is determined to make it here and everywhere!
The Vireowing Fairy Sisters not only have beautiful voices, they love to bestow inner and outer beauty on all of those around them. That's perfect in a city that values beauty!
As with anywhere, crime can be overwhelming in the city but H & H Private detective family, Harmony and Henry, are on the case!
Lots of sims from Starlight Shores and Bridgeport are here: The Drama On TV household, the Crash Pad household, the Atkins Household, the Elson Family, the Sagar Family, the Platt Family, the Hemlock, Schlick and Slayer families, the Belle family, the Art Central household, and the Whitfield family.
AROUND TOWN
38 Community lots
74 Residential lots
This city is ALIVE! Along with all EA rabbitholes, you will find:
CHIPS Casino - a big show venue where you can see the greatest performers and play all games
Across the street, you will find another live show venue - The Locker -
where you can see more live performances. After that, dance the night away at Bubbleworks -
and keep the party going with the late night crew over at The Afterlife Vampire Lounge!
Don't worry about ghosts, though. A recreation of the firestation from the movie, Ghostbusters, is right next door so we ain't afraid of no ghosts! Next to that firestation and hospital emergency center, you will find the Anachronistic Art Gallery and City Hall rabbithole, with some mysterious things to explore in the basement!
In the more affluent area of the city is where you will find the Affluence Golf Club rec park and Tee Off! Sports Bar and Grill -
and some sweet treats at The Big Cheese bakery and shops!
In the center of town, you will find lots of fun for the kids at The Wise Owl Library next to the Aquarium Science Center and the Bright Beginnings Daycare and School center -
Stop by and get some sweet treats at The Plaza Ice Cream Parlor
and then get rid of all of that excess energy at the Big Rock Climbing Centre Gym or The Pac Man Public Pool next to the stadium rabbithole!
Don't forget to visit the Surf's Up Wave Garden at the beach right across the street or the seasonal festival grounds!
Downtown, you can get those extra strings at the DownTown Music Store, play some games at the Laserberry Arcade, and then head over to the Stardust Diner for some drinks and good times!
If you go at certain times of the day to catch a movie at Serena's Community Cinema, you might be able to see some of today's biggest stars working on set! You can pick up whatever you need at the big Sims 3 Market nearby and marvel at all of the old historical residential buildings before you head over to the Double Rainbow Disco Club for more dancing!
For those sims with a more exclusive taste, Club 112 in the historical section is the perfect lounge!
There's The Remaude Coffee Emporium Coffeehouse and Elixir Of Life Coffeehouse and shops for more live venues and fun in Sims3City!
After all of that excitement, the city folks like to visit the Stone Troll Mill Fishing Pond to unwind and maybe catch some dinner if they're lucky!

Several Sentence Sunday
Alright so I've been putting off participating in anything writing wise because I don't a fun banner or anything and you know what? If I keep waiting for the "right" time to happen to start sharing my writing process, I'll never start, so fuck it. No pretty banner, but here's my first Several Sentence Sunday!
Thank you for the tags @hgejfmw-hgejhsf @duchessdepolignaca03 @getmehighonmagic and @meraki-yao!
This is from my Royally Big Bang fic that is inspired by the book (and movie) The Idea of You.
"
By the time Henry got the kids checked in at the hotel, it was only 2pm, but he was exhausted. All three of the kids wanted to go up to the pool, which was on the roof of their hotel, however, so Henry got changed and sat himself under an umbrella reading in a lounger while they splashed around, talking so animatedly about anything and everything important to 15-year-olds. Their carefree nature left him in a state of awe at points, they were all so uninhibited and so happy and the love they felt for each other was palpable. As much as Henry hated Elliot, he would always be so thankful that they’d created Amelia together. She was the ultimate product of their love and affection and no matter what, she represented the best in them both.
Dinner was uneventful, at least for Henry. He’d booked them a reservation at a more upscale restaurant on Miami Beach, wanting to indulge them all a little, but especially Amelia. Some would call it spoiling his daughter, but he had the means to give her experiences he’d cherished with his father as a kid, so he would continue to do so.
Growing up, he’d hated being in the spotlight so much, but it was inevitable seeing as his father was James Bond himself, Arthur Fox. They’d relocated to Los Angeles when Henry was only 8, though they went back to England often enough to visit his mother, Catherine’s, now deceased horror of a mother. There’d been no love lost there when Mary had died of a heart attack shortly before Arthur was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when Henry was 14. He liked to joke that him coming out was what killed his bigot of a grandmother, but Arthur hated that. He’d always made sure Henry knew how much he was loved and how the person he was was enough, and he didn’t like assigning blame for an untimely death upon his son coming into his own."
No pressure tagging @bigassbowlingballhead @eusuntgratie @inexplicablymine @sparklepocalypse @firenati0n @i-am-freyja and anyone else who wants to join! Tag me if you do so I can read what you share!

Fic Rec Friday
This week’s theme: Rec a fic that starts with the same letter as your username (or, if you like, a part of your username).
The rules: Tag a fic that starts with the same letter as your username and describe why it’s so good / how it has a hold on you. Then tag some people to see what everyone else is reading. Spread the love! Please tag @welcometololaland or tag #fic rec friday so she can compile the masterlist.
I was tagged by @welcometololaland & @irispurpurea ❤💕
So for this I'm going with the fics that begin with the same letter as my Tumblr username & also my ao3 username because I've got good ones based on both!
So here we go:
911 Lone Star:
Fire Meet Gasoline by @howtosingit
An amazing firefighter!Carlos AU in which he gets transferred to the 126. It is a fantastic fic & I love the character portrayals! Such a wonderful fic & I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
Forever Will Never Be Long Enough (With You) by falloutmars (not sure if they have a Tumblr)
It's a Tarlos honeymoon fic. Some teasing & swimming pool shenanigans which are simply so 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Find Another Dose by @paperstorm
A 1x09 missing moments fic. TK in his feral cat boy era. A heartbreaking, sad & such an AMAZING fic! Also, Gwyn in this! It made me miss her so much! This was one of those 'This makes me want to hug TK so much' fics. Or as someone else said in the comments, "He needs a Carlos-shaped hug''.
Delicate by @paperstorm
A 1x06 missing moments fic. It has smut with feelings (my favourite kind of smut). Both boys are obviously developing feelings but they're not going to talk about it. The fic was so achingly beautiful it wrecked me. The way Andie has mixed in the feels is 🥺🥺🥺❤❤❤
RWRB:
Forgiveness (Can You Imagine) by viciouslyqueer (I don't know if they have a Tumblr)
A FirstPrince talk of rings & proposals with a little bit of angst. I had so many feels about this! It's si lovely & beautiful & amazing!
Hashtag Soulmates by @everwitch-magiks
A copywriter!Henry & legal advisor!Alex AU. It has literally all my favourite fanfic tropes! And that one particular chapter which has a moment which is so meta I just love it! And all the references & easter eggs in that chapter!
For One Night Only by @indomitable-love
A Catherine/Arthur fic. The meet-cute 🤣🤣😂😂
All the talk of grief made me think of it as foreshadowing. All the parallels! George's story 🥺🥺🥺🥺
The name origin for Beatrice & then after reading the fic, I realized this was also a Henry name origin story! 🥹🥹🥹❤❤❤
For All The World To See by @everwitch-magiks
An FirstPrince neighbor AU with actor!Alex & author!Henry. The fic references! And all the secrets which eventually do come out & lead to the angst! And then the happy ending! 🥺🥺🥹🥹❤❤
Faster, Higher, Stronger by @everwitch-magiks
A FirstPrince sports AU where they're both ice-skaters. So amazing & brilliant & beautiful! I loved it so much! Also, this is the fic that lead me to take an interest in ice-skating. The number of YouTube videos I've watched of Nathan Chen flawlessly executing his routines because of this!
Forever Yrs, For Evermore by @indomitable-love
A FirstPrince lake house proposal fic. It's so beautiful & soft & sexy & lovely all at the same time! I think this is one of the first fics I remember reading for this fandom!
Not sure who hasn't done this yet, but no pressure tagging: @ladytessa74 @sarnagati @jordanshenessy @fangirl-paba @detective-giggles @paperstorm @goodways @first-kanaphan @actuallysara @actual-sleeping-beauty & anyone who wants to participate!

My goal is to collect every Penguin Classic that has a black spine and cover, white title, and orange author name because they’re sooo aesthetically pleasing to me. Love in a Time of War - (History huh? Bet they already made some....)
Love in a Time of War - (History, huh? Bet they already made some....)
https://ift.tt/09qZ3Ul
by Djokodal_Fan
July 1940. The German Wehrmacht has rolled through Poland, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway, and has forced the capitulation of France. Spain under the Dictatorship of Caudillo Francisco Franco is still officially a 'non belligerent', but is heavy tilting towards the Axis Powers of Germany and Italy.
Henry Fox, Second Secretary at the Embassy of His Brittanic Majesty's Government in Spain, and Alexander Claremont-Diaz, Commercial Attaché at the US Embassy, are tasked by their respective Ambassadors to work together to pool and coordinate intelligence sources - for the benefit of both their countries and to aid in the war effort, and to prepare for any potential widening of the theatres of war. Despite the acrimonious circumstances of their first meeting, Alex and Henry gradually develop a rapport. As their bond grows from hostility to a friendship based on mutual respect and affection - and then teeters on the brink of something more, something truly special - can they find their way together in an age which deems Love between two men as a crime? And what impact will the traumatic treatment Henry has endured in the past, have on the decisions they now have to make together?

The Power of Water, Los Angeles
The Power of Water is WPA sculptural group and fountain located in Lafayette Park, Los Angeles, designed in 1934. The artists were Henry Lion, Jason Herron, and Sherry Peticolas. The scupture stands in a triangle formed by Hoover Street, La Fayette Park Place, and Wilshire Boulevard. The fountain features a heroic-sized female figure, symbolizing the power of water, set on a pedestal atop an oblong concrete pool. The southern wall of the pool is decorated with figures in bas-relief showing people hastening to drink from a waterfall.
The Power of Water, general view
The sculpture is one of hundreds of public sculptures created during the federally-assisted Public Works of Art Project. The designs were approved March 14, 1934; the work was completed Sept. 1934. The top figure measures 10 ft x 3 ft x 6 ft 6 in; the bas-relief panel below measures 5 ft x 25 ft x 16 ft. Both portions were cast in reinforced concrete. Paul Jeffers was the engineer for the project.
Above photographs: The artists creating the sculpture, 1934. Los Angeles Public Library Photograph Collection.
The water basin at the base of the sculpture was filled in in 1966; when I last saw the work in the early 2000s, there was some degradation of the concrete, with sections of rusted rebar showing. The sculpture was in need of restoration, as it stood neglected beside a tennis court.
1930s PWAP sculptures: Astronomers Monument, Griffith Observatory, statue of Saint Monica, Santa Monica
If memory serves me correctly, this was one of the first three WPA sculptures commissioned in the L.A. area, the other two being the statue of Santa Monica [in Santa Monica] and the Astronomers' Monument at the Griffith Observatory. The Power of Water sculpture was inventoried for the Save Outdoor Sculpture California survey in 1994; the report indicated “treatment needed.”

The Artists:
Henry Lion (1900-1966) was born in Fresno, California. A resident of Los Angeles, he completed many public commissions for modernist and traditional bronze and stone works. A copy of one of his historical pieces, "Lewis, Clark, and Sacajawea", is at the Gilcrease Institute in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is modeled after a sketch by Charles Russell.
Lion studied at Otis Art Institute and with Stanton MacDonald-Wright, and for many years taught sculpture at the Hollywood Art Center.
Henry Lion, with Statue of Felipe de Neve
Jason Herron’s (1900-1984) works were mostly figural, often strong portrayals of women, and were notable for the beauty and power in their faces and forms. Los Angeles Times critic Arthur Millier compared her to Rodin and wrote of Herron in 1931: “She has that feeling of life flowing, not only through the body of man, but through his soul, too, which invests her figures with a troubled dignity. They live.”
Jason Herron, sculpture, 1930s
Sherry Peticolas (1904-1956) was born in Waterloo, IA. Active in Los Angeles in the 1920s and 1930s, he studied with Merrell Gage Gutzon Borglum at USC. During the Depression years he worked on the Federal Art Project and fulfilled many important municipal commissions in southern California.
Sherry Peticolas, Juan Bautista De Anza
Excerpt from an interview with Henry Lion:
BH: Did you work with any of the other artists in any way on the Project?
HL: The three of us did one large project in Lafayette Park, "The Power of Water" figure.
BH: "Power of Water?"
HL: "Power of Water" figure in Lafayette park. It was done by Jason Herron, Sherry Peticolas and I, the three of
us together.
BH: What was the subject matter of that one?
HL: Well there is one main figure in the center of the design, seven foot by about an eight foot figure of
composition stone. Then in front is a long high relief depicting water and it has two pools one above and one
down below and the water falling into the lower pool from above.
BH: Did you each do a different set of figures for it?
HL: The whole design is mine and the modeling is mine. But Sherry Peticolas did mainly the engineering, casting
and all sort of thing.
BH: Was Sherry Peticolas man or woman?
HL: A man.
BH: A man? and Jason Herron was a woman!
HL: That's right.
BH: What was her part in it?
HL: She worked with me on it. She helped in the casting and….There is an awful lot of work to it you know, in
the way engineering. So we all three worked on it.
BH: How long did it take you to do it? Do you remember now?
HL: I believe it took several months to do it. It's surprising how much you forget. It really took several months to
do it. How do people write their biographies?
BH: That's why the archives are important, nobody had time at that time to get it written down.
HL: It's surprising how much you forget.

Uptown New Orleans
If you're looking for an Uptown New Orleans house for sale, there are several options available. A popular real estate website, Point2, has 24 homes in Uptown New Orleans, Louisiana, ranging in price from $429,000 to $3,250,000. Its searchable database includes single-family homes, townhouses, condominiums, and commercial real estate.
Uptown New Orleans is located on the East Bank of the Mississippi River, encompassing the area between the French Quarter and the Jefferson Parish line. This part of New Orleans was originally built on higher ground along the old natural river levee. This levee was part of a wide, gradual bend in the river.
Today, the Uptown area is home to numerous cultural institutions and attractions. There is no shortage of things to do in this neighborhood, from the New Orleans Public Library to the Prytania Theatre. Uptown also has a diverse population, with many people of European, Asian, and African descent living there.
Victorian-style homes
A 19th-century Victorian-style home in the French Quarter can be yours for a very affordable price. The exterior of this house is adorned with ornate cast-iron work, including a cornstalk fence and morning glory motif. The interior of this house features hardwood flooring and a formal parlor.
The historic Victorian-style home is located on Rampart Street. It was the home of New Orleans novelist Anne Rice. The family bought it in the 1960s, and it gained social significance during the 1970s and 1980s. The house was the site of countless parties, including ones hosted by Jack Cosner. In 2008, Arthur Roger noticed an outbuilding behind the home.
This historic home was built in the early 1800s by two wealthy families. In 1872, the James Freret-designed Bradish Johnson mansion was completed. The property cost approximately $100,000 to build. It has numerous features, including a smoking den, a library, a conservatory, and an early passenger elevator.
The original owner of the house was Thomas D. Miller, a director at Crescent City Oil. He later left the property to his niece, Anne Devall Mays, who lived in it until the 1980s. Since then, it was inhabited by different owners, each of which made renovations to the house. The current owners of the house had admired the home on their walks and decided to buy it when it became available for sale in 2013.
Double-gallery houses
Double-gallery houses are typically two stories high with three front windows. They often sit on wider, deeper lots than single-story homes and feature a two-story covered front porch. They are common in neighborhoods such as the Garden District, Uptown, and Esplanade Ridge.
This palatial home was designed by famed architect Henry Howard in 1859 and was extensively restored in 1975. The 6,960-square-foot property features frescoed walls, a ballroom, multiple balconies, and a media room. It also has a private courtyard with a swimming pool.
The property also includes an oversized lot with off-street parking. The home is well-suited to both residents and tenants, as it blends historic details with modern elements. The double-gallery home includes a three-bedroom, two-bath owner's unit, as well as a one-bedroom, one-bath rental unit. The home's yard is shaded by a beautiful oak tree and offers sunset views. It also features a curated garden with native plants.
Double-gallery houses for sale in the New Orleans area are a great choice for anyone looking to buy a home in the city. The city is known for its historic architecture and rich culture. Its housing stock includes shotgun-style, double-gallery, and Creole cottage homes. Creole Townhouses are two to four stories with arched windows and brick exteriors.
