Warnings: Sports Festival Arc and Fighting, Panic Attacks, Shoto being an ass
It was brutal having to watch this battle despite your disdain towards Uraraka, any plan she took to attack Bakugo was blown up in her face, metaphorically and literally. Bakugo was not holding back at all as he sent explosions that sent the girl flying back and he hadn’t even broken into a sweat.
“Doesn’t matter how good she is at dodging.” “She’s just desperate now.” The crowd murmurs as the harsh battle continue.
“Hey!! That’s not the way someone who wants to be a hero acts! If you’re so much stronger than her, just throw her out of the ring and finish it!” You all hero someone in the stands shout and the crowd starts booing at Bakugo.
“Is the one who said he’s toying with her a Pro? How many years of active duty?” You all hear your teacher's voice on the loudspeaker and you all turn towards the press box, “If that’s what you’re taking away from this, then you can leave. No point in watching. Go home and start looking at job-hunting sites. She’s come his far, and he knows her strength. His caution shows that he recognizes her as a worthy opponent. It’s exactly because he wants to win so badly that there’s no room for carelessness or holding back.”
Mr. Aizawa finishes his speech and that none of you realized what she was planning this entire time until it was too late. A sudden meteor shower from all the rubble up in the air comes crashing down. She might have a chance at winning this. In an explosion larger than any you have seen Bakugo do the large chucks of rubble are nothing but pebbles in dust in the air solidifying her fate.
“What an explosion! Uraraka’s plan just went up in smoke!” Present Mic yells and you see the two charge at each other before the brunette slumps over and Midnight rushes over to the girl. It’s silent for a second before the hero speaks,
“Uraraka is unable to continue. Bakugo moves on to the second round!”
As Uraraka is brought off the field Cementoss goes to work fixing the platform before the second round starts.
“Ohh. rough match, huh, villain-face?” Sero calls out to Bakugo as he joins you all in your seating, “Awkward matchups aside, you do great at playing the bad guy, Bakugo.” Tsuyu says.
“Shut the hell up, all of you!” Bakugo yells and Kaminari begins to scold him,
“No, really nice job blowing up that frail little girl. Not like me. I held back against mine.” You and Mina immediately turn to look at the blonde at his comment about holding back against you.
“You were beaten in the first few seconds Kaminari.” Mina says defending you and Kaminari pouts, “Hey not cool Mina.”
“Nothing frail about her,” Bakugo comments and ends the conversation. Kirishima and Tetsutetsu have an arm-wrestling contest with your classmate coming up victorious.
“Both of these competitors have won top marks in this festival so far! But there’s only room for one of these greats in the ring! It’s Todoroki versus Midoriya!”
The cool breeze from a fast attack from Todoroki as he sends a large barrage of ice towards Midoriya who quickly takes it down using One for All destroying the ice but at the cost of breaking his finger. He needs to be smart about this he doesn’t have full control either of One for All.
“WOAH! He smashed through!” Present Mic yells and the crowd is instantly going wild over the battle. Todoroki sends more ice for Midoriya to smash through now having two broken fingers. Flashes of ice and wind combat against each other as they both fight their hardest against each other.
“Gah, they already started!” Kirishima says rushing into the booth, “Hey nice job getting into the second round!” Kaminari says and Kirishima smiles sitting by the group of you.
“Thanks, man! I’m up against you Bakugo!” “I’ll kill you.” Kirishima laughs before looking at his hands.
“Though you and Todoroki can fire off as many crazy attacks as you want…”
“As many as we want don’t be an idiot.” Bakugo scoffs his eyes still focused on the battle down below, “Strain your muscles and you’ll tear them. Run too much, and you’ll be out of breath. Quirks are still physical abilities.”
“I guess you’re right that means against instakill man Midoriya’s trying to stretch the match out,” Kirishima says. Another large blast fills the arena as Midoriya smashes another ice attack all his fingers except his thumb on his left hand are broken.
Present Mic yells as Todoroki creates a ramp to get up into the air, “Todoroki, undaunted by Midoriya’s power moves in to close the gap!”
Using his other hand Midoriya shoots breaking the ram having Todroki in the air barely dodging the above attack from his classmate. Todorkoi slams onto the ground sending a large explosion of ice catching Midoriya’s foot in the process. A large blast of wind has your hair pushed back from the pressure. Todoroki stops himself from getting out of bounds, but now Midoriya is defenseless having used his entire right arm to destroy that attack. Todorki is still standing though there is frost growing on his body.
“Todoroki continues his relentless assault! Could this next ice attack in it all?” Sending another attack it is stopped by Midoriya flicking his already broken finger destroying the ice and pushing Todoroki towards the edge but he stops himself with ice.
“You’re shivering Todoroki,” Midroiya calls out the boy who watches him in shock he has broken all his fingers and is still going, “Quirks are still just physical abilities. You must have a limit to how much of that cold you can bear! But then... You could always use your left side to thaw yourself out, right? Everyone’s giving it their all. To win...To achieve their goals... To make it to the top! And you’re gonna win with half your power! I still haven’t put a scratch on you! GIMME EVERYTHING YOU GOT! COME AT ME!!” Midoriya yells at your classmate as the tension in this fight continues to rise.
The two boys rush towards each other Todoroki is ready to send another attack when Midoriya beats him to it sending a punch right in the stomach using One For All sending Todorki flying through the air breaking his hand further in the process.
“What a hit! Things are really heating up!!” “He landed a hit on Todoroki!” “But it looks like Midoriya’s the one who can barely stand…” Midoriya you're tearing yourself apart for what reason? Another attack and Midoriya flicks his thumb in his mouth sending another large attack at Todoroki’s ice.
“Why’re you going this far?” Todoroki yells at Midoriya who is rushing towards him, “Just trying to meet expectations! A smiling dependable cool hero that’s what I wanna be!” His fingers are bloody and purple and there is blood on Midoriya’s mouth as well.
“That’s why I’m giving it everything! For everyone! Your experiences…your determination...I can’t even being to imagine what all that’s like but, if you become Number one without giving it your all then I don’t really think you’re serious about denying him everything!”
“Shut up…” Todorki is frozen in his place the frost and cold overwhelming him as Midoriya sends another punch sending Todoroki across the ring
“That’s why I have to win! I have to surpass you!! Todoroki slowly pushes himself to his feet as Midoriya stands across from him.
“I’ll show my father-” “IT’S YOUR POWER! ISN’T IT?”
Those words seem to strike something deep inside Todoroki as you all witness the large flames erupt from his left side, the heat from the flames is so hot despite you all being far away.
“SHOTOOOOOO!” You all hear a loud shout from the stands as Endeavor makes his way to the edge of the stands where he is, “So you’ve finally accepted it! Yes! Excellent! It'll start now for you! With my blood pumping through your veins, you will surpass me… You will fulfill my ambitions!!” What a psycho, and to imagine what he had planned when he asked about your quirk.
“A sudden pep talk from Mr. Endeavor, huh…what a doting parent.” Present Mic says and two boys seem to reach the final of this battle. A mixture of ice and fire roars around Todoroki as he sends a large blast of ice toward Midoriya who has One For All running through his arms and legs as he rushes toward Todoroki. With the intensity of the attack, you all knew it wasn’t going to go well. Cementoss and Midnight spring into an attack to stop both of the boys but the quick barrier that Cementoss puts up is nothing against the attack from both students. The pillars of stone instantly explode and the cold air being instantly heated explodes with a loud boom.
The hot air from the explosions sends everyone in the crowd back as smoke and dust cloud the arena, “What a blast, though. And what heat! Can’t see a thing. Has the math been decided?” The smoke begins to clear and you see a bit of Midoriya’s shoe was he still in? The smoke clears and Midoriya is slammed against the wall, he wobbles for a second before collapsing onto the ground.
“Midoriya is out-of-bounds… Todoroki moves on to the third round!” Todoroki is revealed to still be in the boundaries half of his shirt ripped off from his flames. You see some of your classmates get up most likely going to see Midoriya.
You silently make your way out of the booths to one; see Midoriya as well but, also get ready for your battle against Iida. You turn down the hallway just as Iida, Uraraka, Tsuyu, and Mineta pass you. The three of them give you greetings while Uraraka just ignores you and you ignore her as well. Getting closer to Recovery GIrl’s makeshift office you knock on the door and you hear voices behind it quiet down.
“Who is it?” You hear Recovery Girl’s voice call out,
“Um, it Y/n L/n...I just wanted to check on Midoriya. I can come back later if you want.” You say and there is some muttering before the door opens and the tiny woman lets you inside. Midoriya is laying on one of the beds both of his arms wrapped in slings and bandages and his right leg has a splint. Damn, he really tore himself apart.
“Is he going to be alright?” You ask Recovery Girl and she can’t help but feel pity at your nervous expression, she could tell you both were close as classmates and with your connection through All Might.
“He’ll need surgery for his injuries but he will be alright, you should be heading off for your match.” Recovery Girl says leading you towards the door. All Might is there and he was just looking at Midoriya you couldn’t help but notice the look on his face, was it guilt? Getting one last look at the boy you leave heading towards the arena to prepare for your battle.
“Your lucky this kid looks up to you so much that he allows himself to break his body.” Recovery Girl says whacking her cane against All Might’s leg, “And the girl as well, just because has some part of your quirk doesn’t mean you can forget about her as well. If anything she is more likely to hurt herself.” All Might looks at Young Midoriya before turning to the door you just left from.
“With the weight of whose quirk she has that girl is going to do everything in her power to prove to herself and others she is something, even if that means breaking herself in the process.”
The light from the outside gets brighter as you make your way onto the platform, already seeing Mina and Tokoyami’s fight, Mina tried her best but was no match against Tokoyami and Dark Shadow. Your friend made you promise you would win this for her and you smile and agreed for her sake. Now it would be you going against Iida in this battle.
“Everyone ready!! It’s the man with a plan, class president to Class A, Tenya Iida. Going up against are tough opponent we got our quirk copycat from Class A as well, Y/n L/n!” Present Mic shouts and the crowd goes wild as you and Iida meet in the ring.
“I hope we both show our effort as students of the Hero Course!” Iida calls out getting into position as you take a step back slowly bringing your arms up.
“Hope you’re ready for a quick defeat.” You call back and you take a deep breath focusing on your surrounding you got this Y/n.
“START!”
Iida waste no time closing the distance between the two of you reaching out to grab you and you quickly flip over him with an explosion landing behind him sending another blast at him but he dodges out of the way.
“Wasting no time Iida tries to grab L/n but using Bakugo’s quirk she dodges let’s see what other tricks are up her sleeves.”
Twisting your foot you send a wave of ice toward your classmate and he jumps over the attack swinging his leg down and kicking you sending you tumbling onto the ground. The wind getting knocked out of you and you feel Iida grab the collar of your jacket and start rushing towards the boundaries using recipro burst, you can see the edge get closer in a last-ditch attempt frost quickly grows along your right side and attaches to his body hitting one of his engines stalling him.
“My exhaust pipe’s blocked!” Grabbing his wrist with your right hand you quickly freeze him in a block of ice. “Gahhh so cold…” Bringing yourself to your feet you let out a breath of air, your whole right side had frost growing on you.
“I really thought I was done for when you used your Recipro Burst…” You say the cold was quickly getting to you.
“Iida is unable to continue! L/n moves on finishing it off with Todoroki’s quirk.” Present Mic says and the crowd goes wild. Bringing your left hand up you place it against the ice where Iida’s chest would be, quickly your palm warms up steam appears as you melt him out of his icy prison and the frost from your right side begins to melt off.
“Sorry about that Iida didn’t want you really hurt. Are your engines all good?” You ask as he shakes off the frost and water now freed. Iida nods stretching out his legs showing his engines,
“You just stalled them with the ice, I’ll be alright thank you for your concern and a good match.” You nod as the two of you make it off the platform as Kirishima’s and Bakugo’s fight gets started. Returning to the stands you watch the fight against the two boys it lasts a while with Kirishima’s hardening being a good defense against Bakugo’s explosions but after a while, the quirk begins to chip away at the indestructible defense that is Kirishima and in one mighty punch Kirishima is knocked out and the match is over.
“Bakugo’s low-down carpet-bombing blasts him into the third round! And with that, we’ve got our final four!!” Present Mic yells and the Semi-final match-up are made and you can’t help the nerves that appear when you see you’re going against Todoroki. A hand lands on your shoulder and you look seeing it’s Mina and the boys,
“You’ll be alright L/n you’re one of the strongest girls I know you can beat Todoroki!” Mina exclaims and Sero and Kaminari cheer you on, “With that quirk of yours he should be the nervous one.” You felt better with their words of courage as you make your way towards the entrance. Heading down the stairs towards the tunnel leading to the arena you bump into Midoriya who was making his way upstairs.
“L/n! I didn’t get to see your match against Iida but you’re going up against Todoroki right?” He says, he looks tired from the surgery but he still had that smile on his face,
“Yeah, how did the surgery go?” You question him and he shrugs his shoulder, “It went already there is a bit of scarring because of my injuries but Recovery said that everything should heal up nicely. You nod that was good at least, he looked like utter shit when you first saw him after his battle against Todoroki.
“Well I better get going, let’s hope I don’t end up matching you in scars Midoriya.” Holding up crossed fingers as you start making your way down the hall and Midoriya smiles letting out a laugh before calling out to you,
“Why do you make that sound like a bad thing?”
“We already share a quirk I don’t need matching injuries with you as well.” You say a grin on your face as you get closer to the exit. The sound of cheers fills your ears as you stand right before the exit. You got this Y/n, stay focused, keep your breathing steady, and make them proud.
“A matchup I’ve been waiting for!! Two powerhouses from Class A, both having first-place titles and tied for the events you’ve all seen today!! We got Shoto Todoroki Versus Y/n L/n!!” The crowd roars as you make your way onto the platform your face is even as you eye your opponent, the flames from the torches on the platform burn as the two of you stand on opposite ends. “A real battle ahead of us you guys ready!!”
It’s quiet between the two of you. The crack of Midnight’s whip sends the both of you into motion. Todoroki sends a fast attack of ice your way, heat grows quickly on your left side as you swipe your arm up flames erupting a wall of flames melting the ice Todoroki sent. The left arm of your jacket is burnt off the flames crackling along your arm but you ignore the pain and the heat.
“A quick attack from Todoroki but using his quirk against him L/n stops any attempts.” Present Mic yells and the crowd cheers. Rushing toward Todoroki he sends another sheet of ice but it is quickly melted slamming your palm against the ground you explode the ground rubble creating a smoke cloud, you could feel your palm sting from the heat blisters probably forming already. Listening to Todoroki’s footsteps as he looks in all directions to where you might be. A blast of heat hits his back sending him to the ground, the smoke clears as you stand holding your wrist out your palm red and irritated by the heat. Rushing to the duel-haired boy you bring your fist down to send another explosion but he dodges rolling out of the way.
“Fierce attack coming from L/n what quirk while she use now?!” Todoroki swipes his leg out sending ice your way, barely dodging frost that grows up your leg but it doesn’t freeze you in place.
“Come on Todoroki where’s the fire from before?!” You call out to the boy who remains quiet. Shit, you can’t use Shinso’s quirk if he doesn’t respond. What quirk do you use, continue with Bakugo’s or switch it up maybe use Mina’s or Kirishima’s? In the brief second, you took to think Todoroki advanced onto you swinging his fist down onto you, a punch mixed with ice hits you in the chest sending you back. Hitting the ground the ice grows along your chest making you cold as you try to suck in the air that was knocked out of you.
“You think you’re going to beat me…” Todoroki's voice calls out as he makes his way over to you. Pushing yourself up you wince at the pain in your chest as you try to regulate your breathing, “No matter what quirk you throw at me it won’t work. You’ve only gotten here through luck…” Rushing towards him you throw a punch mixed with an explosion but he quickly dodges grabbing your wrist frost growing on it as he flips you over his body slamming you back onto the ground. You feel your body seize up from the hit, get up keep fighting.
“The table seems to have turned and Todoroki seems to have gotten the upper hand!” Kicking your leg out to knock him over he jumps back and you push yourself up, your arm heating up and the frost melts off and you wince at the pain from the flames as they burn your skin.
“You can’t control it huh,” Todoroki says looking at your arm as the flames die off, he could see it on your face, you couldn’t handle any of it the pain your were holding back, “Despite how powerful your quirk is you can’t handle it.” The knife the embeds in your heart hearing his words, ignore it keep fighting.
“Shut up!” You yell swiping your arm despite your body yelling at you not to, flames shoot out and he stops them with his ice extinguishing your flames.
“Your body isn’t built for my quirk, for anyone’s quirk in reality,” Todoroki says and you rush to him grappling swinging your fist hitting him in the face but he counters twisting you to have your back face him and kicks you down to the ground.
“You think you’re proving something to the heroes out there. You’re showing them you can’t handle it.” He says to you and you push yourself up. What the hell was wrong with him. Bring your arm up to attack he grabs your fist ice quickly grows on it creating a burning sensation as the cold burns at your burned arm. Bringing your other hand up to hit him he brings his left hand grabbing your wrist the heat from his palm having you react using the ice side of his quirk against him. The battle between using two quirks at the same time was drawing onto you quicker than Todoroki who has dealt with using two quirks at once.
“You’re is nothing with someone’s quirk, you’re basically quirkless.”
Quirkless… That’s what you were. You could hear their voices taunting you right now.
“Like you could ever be a hero!”
“Why would I want some quirkless freak to save me.”
“No one will ever care for someone who’s quirkless.”
The overstimulation from both quirks quickly takes over as you collapse to your knees, you were hot and cold at the same time, everything was too loud. Why was everything ringing? All these quirks in you were overreacting at the same time, you couldn’t do this, it was too much. One For All, your past, everything it was just too much.
“L/n is unable to continue. Todoroki moves on to the finals!” Midnight yells and the crowd cheers though some of your classmates and teachers can see the distressed look on your face as you sat there panicking.
Everything was building up. Was it over why couldn’t you hear anything? You can’t move your arms, get up they’re all watching you. They’re watching you fail. Why can’t you breathe? Why weren’t you moving? Pushing yourself up to your feet your legs shake and your arms were on fire as you drag yourself out of the arena. Once you enter the tunnel you are quickly greeted by Mina and Jiro.
“Hey, L/n you alright?” Mina asks and you collapse into her arms, you would have hit the floor if she hadn’t grabbed you. “Jiro get Mr. Aizawa or some teacher!” Mina says as she holds you in her arms Jiro rushes off down the hall.
“Y/n are you okay talk to me,” Mina says trying to get you to respond but you are unconscious still stuck in your head, Mina can feel the sudden changes happening to your skin as it gets suddenly hot and then cold. “Hey, just a second you’re going to be alright,” Mina says trying to remain calm.
“Hey, Mina what’s taking you guys so long we wanted to talk to L/n-hey what’s wrong,” Kirishima says as he, Sero, and Kaminari turn the corner to see Mina holding you up, you passed out.
“I don’t know she just came out like this, she’s freezing and burning up at the same time!” Mina cries out and the three boys rush over Kirishima scoops you up in his arms, he hisses slightly from the sudden heat and cold that rushes through you every few seconds.
“Let’s get her to Recovery Girl! She burning up.” Kirishima says, “Guys look.” Kaminari is pointing at your arms and that’s when they notice the damage you took during that battle. Your left arm was severely burned blisters all over it and your right arm has frost stuck onto it as it slowly went up to your face.
The four students rush with you in Kirishima’s arms to Recovery Girl’s room bursting through the doors almost scaring the woman half to death.
“Recovery Girl something wrong with L/n!” Kirishima says as he brings her over to one of the beds and Recovery Girl quickly rushes over, “She’s burning up and getting cold every second and she’s not responding to what any of us are saying!” You were laying in the bed as you twitched every few seconds as the heat flashes and chills take over. The door to Recovery Girl’s office burst open again and Mr. Aizawa and All Might come rushing inside as well with Jiro following right behind her.
“Alright kids out of the room, she’ll be alright.” Recovery Girl says and All Might ushers the kids out of the room leaving the teachers and the student only. Recovery reaches to touch your forehead but hisses in pain at the heat that is coming off you burns her hand slightly. You twitch the frost on your right side grows more as it begins to turn a shade of blue.
“I can’t use my quirk if she is fighting against me subconsciously.” Recovery Girl turns to the two teachers. It was like you were paralyzed in place but still able to react to anything by you which means still fighting. Aizawa’s hair lifts up his eyes glowing red as you seize for a second before you go still the frost leaving your skin as you settle before he blinks and your quirk returns to you but isn’t active. Recovery Girl presses a hand against your forehead and she can feel your temperature settle, looking at the rest of the damage your left arm was severely burned and your right arm has small degrees of frostbite from the cold.
“Both of her arms are heavily injured and she is definitely exhausted from the constant quirk use. Her body can’t handle these strong quirks like the others students are.” Recovery Girl presses a kiss onto your forehead and most of the burns and frostbite heal but there are still some injuries,
“She won’t be able to compete for third place, she still doesn’t have the stamina to fully her these injuries.” Aizawa and All Might nod, “I’ll let Midnight know she won’t be competing.” Aizawa says and goes to leave the room.
“Before you go Aizawa, another thing about Ms. L/n I’m sure you saw what she did during the cavalry battle. I believe we’re barely scratching the surface of what her quirk really is.” Recovery Girl says and Aizawa sighs nodding. Another mystery to add to the thousands that were happening in this school already.
“We’ll discuss more of this after the festival,” Aizawa says and leaves the room. Leaving the Number One Hero with the young student he winces at the whack from Recovery Girl’s cane.
“What did I tell you All Might, she has a large burden to prove to many people, and she is ready to tear herself apart.” She states before leaving to let your rest before working on the rest of your wounds. All Might looks at the sleeping child you looked calm despite the injuries you endured in the last few hours. Senesi please give me the strength to guide your grandchild.

:0 could I have a beel, asmo, belphie, lucifer, mammon, satan (not including levi) and diavolo playing videogames? I thought it would be kinda funny since they're all really old- except for levi of course haha
Ohhh this should be fun!
Decided to do individual HCs for this one instead of a group thing so they wouldn’t be limited to multiplayer games.
Most of them, save for a certain prince, have been exposed to games a fair amount by proximity to Levi.
---
Lucifer:
Lucifer has a Mononoke Land account so that he’ll get the email notifications for events and can therefore keep track of Levi’s whereabouts.  He’s never played the game, though, nor downloaded the app, and he has no intention of doing so.
In general, he’s not much of a gamer.  The most gaming he gets done is minesweeper on Windows XP.  He doesn’t have the time, and it was never something he could get into.
That isn’t to say that he owns zero games, though.  His favorite genre is turn-based strategy, because he can afford to look away from them, and they make him think and plan.
He doesn’t like the hyper-realistic ones, though.  Things like Civilization and Here Be Dragons are up his alley, Hearts of Iron not so much.
He doesn’t care too much about the story, but a good soundtrack is mandatory.
Also he’s an old man so the controls also have to be intuitive or he just won’t be able to play.  Why is he jumping when he presses A he thought that was the attack button.
The type of player who needs to get every achievement.  A completionist.
When the group gets together for the rare multiplayer night, he has no idea what he’s doing and yet still manages to do well.  It’s kind of infuriating.
He won’t make alliances with anyone, no, it’s every man for himself.  He also actively targets Mammon no matter what game they’re playing.
The fact that he doesn’t really get it protects his pride when Levi inevitably wipes the floor with him.
Mammon:
Mammon actually does game a little bit in his spare time, mostly with Levi.  He’s got a couple consoles and is more open to different genres than Lucifer is.
He thrives in any game where the main goal is to rack up as many points or as much profit as possible.  He’s undefeated in tycoons and pinball.  (Tetris is an exception; he’s terrible at Tetris.  Stupid spacial recognition.)
The RNG elements boil down to his insane luck, but he’s actually very smart when it comes to investments and stuff, so it’s not like he’s only using his luck to get by.
If the games have multiplayer, even better!  Nothing like kicking Levi, MC and Belphie’s asses in a game of Fortune Street!
He also tends to like the action-focused games that Levi plays.  Not so much into turn-based RPGs, but he enjoys stuff where the enemies spawn, like in Zelda or Rune Factory.  And he’s great at button mashing in fighting games, although Levi, who actually knows how to play them, always beats him.
Mammon uses items as soon as he gets them, and is too busy rushing a boss to care about learning its patterns and strategizing.
Skips cutscenes even on his first run.  Levi and Satan hate him for it.
Like mentioned before, he gets an unfair disadvantage in game nights because everyone targets him.  Especially in those games with RNG, because otherwise he WILL win.
He’s banned from PTW games because he will indeed PTW.
Satan:
Satan is another one who doesn’t play too many games, and that might be for the best because he’s a nightmare to play with.
The sorest loser, and a pretty nasty winner too.  He insists on the hardest difficulty and then rage quits at the slightest inconvenience.
He will play when prompted, though; he’s not above hanging out with his brothers.  His favorite sorts of games are ones with a good story and/or good puzzles.  His planning is more on the tactics side, as opposed to Lucifer’s strategy, so he would love Fire Emblem.
He WILL drop a game if the story isn’t holding his attention, and he’s done so in the past.
Overly cautious and hoards resources.  He takes the safe route every time.
Also another completionist.
Beel would often ask Satan to help him find out which art pieces were originals and safe to buy in Animal Crossing, and Satan got a little bit interested and ended up making a resident on Beel’s cartridge so the donations could be in his name.  He went on a mini-campaign to drive out the residents he didn’t like, but one of them turned out to be Beel's favorite and he felt terrible about it for weeks.
During family game nights, everyone is always torn between appeasing Satan and telling him to deal with it when he loses.
He also gets angry if he catches on to the fact that they’re letting him win, though.
Probably a genwunner.
Asmodeus:
Asmo enjoys video games.  They don’t fit into his aesthetic so he’s never really tried to understand them, but he doesn’t dislike them by any means.
Gaming is becoming more mainstream though, right?  That’s a whole new audience that could appreciate him.  Maybe, just maybe, he can let himself be a bit of a geek.
Unsurprisingly, he’s got a penchant for games with customization options.  Surprisingly, he also really enjoys FPS games.  If he and Levi ever played at the same time, it would be chaos in the House of Lamentation.
As opposed to his in-your-face attitude, he likes to play sniper units.
He said he wants to tap into the gaming community, but he’s not very good at most of the games he plays so he’s too embarrassed to actually do so.  He does, however, play the Sims on livestream.  He does his best to make the steamiest and most dramatic scenarios happen, and he’ll hold strawpolls to let his viewers make some choices.
Asmo also plays Animal Crossing like a few other brothers, but his island is so well groomed and with just the right residents, it feels like you’re touring an uncanny dystopia and Asmo is the dictator.
When the group gets together, he usually ends up doing the worst.  He’s more interested in executing perfect combos than actually dealing damage, so he’s not aggressive enough to get anything done against players like Levi and Satan.
He’s also not very good at teamwork; he starts yelling at his partner very quickly.
Beelzebub:
Beel doesn’t have a lot of “gamer” in him, but some of his brothers seem to like it so he decided to give it a go.  Turns out his hands are too big, but he makes do.  Kind of.
You’d expect a sports game to be the best for him, since he’s so athletic.  However, it’s BECAUSE he’s so athletic that this sort of game isn’t in his library.  He gets too antsy and bored tapping buttons instead of actually playing the sport.
Beel’s also not an aggressive player in any sense of the word.  He feels guilty even hurting the most basic of slimes.
No, no games are better for Beel than the stress-free, casual life simulators.  Animal Crossing is no surprise his favorite one right now.  Satan handles the museum for him while Beel gets to do whatever he feels like in a world where the biggest threat is a wasp.
He’ll also play other low stakes games where living your life is the main goal, like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley.  His big heart can never choose who to marry in those games.
Horror is also ok for him, because while aggression is hard for him, self-defense is not.
He got the Cooking Mama app on his D.D.D. and bit the device in half, so he’s not allowed to touch that franchise anymore.
When the gang meets up, his non-aggressive side sticks around.  In fighting games, he’s more likely to dodge and steer clear of the others, and in other versus games he’s so open to compromise you’d think you were on the same team.
Satan did get him his favorite resident back.
Belphegor:
Belphie probably games the second most after Levi; it’s something that keeps him entertained but doesn’t require him to move very much at all.
I actually have no idea how to describe his preferred genres, but League of Legends and Dark Souls is basically all you need to know.
League lets him socialize a bit, and it’s the game that he and Levi play together most often.  As for Dark Souls, he loves the sort of game where learning your opponent’s every move and outsmarting/outmaneuvering them is the only path to victory.
I guess that would be described as “really hard action-adventure” games?  He’d also like Sekiro.
He also has his own copy of Animal Crossing to visit and play with Beel, but his island is so underdeveloped you’d think he started that same week.
Belphie is the true wild card of family game nights; sometimes he sleeps through the whole thing, while other times he can take down even Levi.
He has everyone’s habits down to a T--Mammon charges in, Asmo does too much setup, Levi’s overconfident--and he knows how to counter each and every one of them.
For someone who’s so much of a cunning player, though, he also misclicks a lot.
He’s the most likely out of his brothers to make alliances.  He’s also the most likely to break alliances.
If he doesn’t think he can win, he’ll choose a player and start sabotaging the game in their favor.
Diavolo:
Lord Diavolo had read about like, Mario?  The little blue hedgehog guy?  But he’d never owned a gaming console before.  He probably thought Neopets was peak gaming.
Levi swore to fix this grievous error, and this was also a mistake, because now Diavolo keeps trying to get Lucifer to play all these hack and slash games with him.
He has legitimately told Lucifer that “if you don’t play Devil May Cry with me THIS devil may cry!”
The games need to always have something happening in them or he’ll get bored, kind of like Satan’s need for a good story, except with action.
It’s also worth mentioning that “play a game with Diavolo” actually means “sit in the same room as Diavolo while he plays.”
And oh boy… is he terrible at these games.
He just button mashes until either he dies or all the enemies die.
Never uses any of the items he gets because he’s sure he’ll need them more later on.  When, Diavolo?  During the staff roll?
Will bomb a door before trying the knob.
Since he’s usually only around Lucifer, who doesn’t want to get sucked into this, and Barbatos, who honestly couldn’t care less about this, he’s been left alone and free to develop these terrible gaming habits.
It’s rare that he comes to family gaming night.  Legend has it that Lucifer’s piercing glare is somehow connected to the fact that his brothers always let Diavolo win.

13 Things Best Bros Do Together (+1 Thing They Don’t): Chapter 6
<< First / < Previous /  Next > (I swear there’s more I’ll just upload and link it later asdfghjkl - you can still read all there is on AO3, though!)
Read it on AO3
“As heroes, you will be expected to fight whilst defending a helpless victim,” Aizawa tells Class 1-A, who are huddled around in a circle in the centre of the training grounds. “Protecting another affects your fighting style, and this exercise is is designed to test your capacity to do that.
“You will be split up into partners. The first run of this exercise will be a test run, and then we’ll rotate partners, who you’ll be tested alongside with.”
“Sir!” Iida interjects, and Bakugou rolls his eyes in irritation. Every single fucking time , he thinks. “How does the exercise work, exactly?” Seems Aizawa’s pretty fed up of it, too. Bakugou can tell , even if the dark haired teacher keeps his cool.
“Iida, please let me finish before you ask any questions. Each pair will be up against another. Only one of the two can use their quirk, the other being the ‘helpless victim’. If I see the designated victim using their quirk, I will cancel it out, and they will immediately fail this exercise, understood?” Aizawa warns.
“Yes, sir!” the class replies in unison. Apart from Bakugou, anyway. He's not playing a fucking victim, no matter what.
“Each team will also have a orb that the ‘victim’ will hold. The aim of each team is to acquire the orb from the opposite team, whilst ensuring that the ‘victim’ sustains minimal damage. As for the teams…” As the teacher begins to read from a list, Bakugou tunes the man out. He only has to pay attention when his name is called. Besides, he doesn’t like the sound of this activity. Of course, it’s no challenge, but he doesn’t like working with the dumbasses in this class. Except maybe Kirishima, sometimes. But they might not get paired up together.
“Bakugou will be with Midoriya for the first rotation, versus Todoroki, who will be partnered with Aoyama. Sero will be with…” Aizawa continues.
Fuck it. Bloody fuck it, of course he’s got shitty Deku and his fucking boyfriend.
“I will leave it up to you all to decide who plays the victim, and who plays the hero. Considering that we’re doing this exercise two times, it would be preferable to play each role once, but there is no obligation to.
“Collect your orbs from that box,” Aizawa instructs, “and find a space for you and your opponents to work in. You can begin as soon as you’re ready; smash the orb once you’ve acquired it to inform me you’re done. Everyone has a twenty minute time limit, starting now.”
Bakugou sees the smaller boy walk to the box and collect an orb, which fits neatly in his scarred hands. The blonde twitches slightly as Deku gestures for him to come over.
“I thought you’d want me to play the victim?” the green haired one asks as he stops in front of him.
“Tch, fucking obviously, Deku,” Bakugou snarls. “You better stay out of my fucking way.” Deku gives him a nervous thumbs up and jogs to where Todoroki and Aoyama are waiting. Aoyama sits on the smooth ground, whilst Todoroki stands in front of him, braced for the first attack.
He feels Deku plop down on the ground behind him, which means they’re ready to roll. And don’t get him wrong, Bakugou doesn’t waste a single second. Todoroki doesn’t get so much as a simple signal when suddenly Bakugou is crashing into him. Had it been anyone else, they would’ve been caught by surprise. However, Todoroki deflects Bakugou with a simple wall of ice.
Weaker than usual , Bakugou notes as he smashes through it. It must be in some effort to keep Aoyama safe; Todoroki’s conserving his strength rather than trying to full-on defeat him.
Which just makes it even easier for Bakugou.
Fuck protecting the shitty nerd , Bakugou thinks. It’s going to be over a lot quicker if he can get the damn orb. Bakugou blasts deftly at Todoroki, who lunges out of the way, leaving Aoyama in the open. Perfect .
But before his second blast can fully get through to the glittery hero, another wall of ice is up, just in time to stop any real damage from being done. But he’s sure he’s scratched him, which is enough for now. Bakugou reels back in for another attack, when the wall disappears.
He doesn’t know why, but Aoyama’s vulnerable, and that’s all that fucking matters now. He’s about to snatch the orb from a slightly cowering Aoyama when he hears someone call his name.
“Kacchan! Help me!” Bakugou swivels to see Todoroki hovering over Deku, who’s looking at Bakugou with wide eyes. Bakugou pauses, and Deku realises what Bakugou’s plan is - to leave him at the mercy of Todoroki in the hope that he’ll have snatched the orb from Aoyama in time to prevent any real damage.
The half and half bastard’s left side is ablaze, and just as he makes a move to strike, Deku chokes out:
“Baby, please-” The flames waver for a split second, and Bakugou is instantly grabbing the orb from Aoyama’s grasp and smashing it.
“Wait, no!” Aoyama yells, as a blue haze wafts up.
“We fucking got you, bastard,” Bakugou taunts Todoroki as he strides towards Deku, but the icyhot idiot completely fucking ignores Bakugou, instead pulling on Deku’s ear and whispering something in his ear that makes him go bright red.
“I-I didn’t mean to, I swear-” Deku babbles, going after Todoroki as he walks away. Bakugou swears he hears something along the lines of ‘please, we can’t do that tonight’, at which point he stops listening, because honestly, he doesn’t want to fucking know whatever lewd threat Todoroki must’ve made.
Instead, he returns to Aizawa using a different route, and sits on the opposite side of the bench to the couple as he waits for everyone else to finish. God, but they’re all so fucking slow . He tries searching out Kirishima to entertain himself, but Shitty Hair is nowhere nearby. If he’s getting hurt right now, Bakugou’s going to fucking kill him or whoever's meant to be looking after him.
*
“Most of you clearly need to learn to be more aware of the person you’re protecting,” Aizawa informs them as they’re huddled around again.
Bakugou had been glad that Kirishima seemed unscathed as he'd sat down next to him five minutes before the time limit for the first round was up. Mina had done a halfway decent job protecting him, then; maybe he could yell at her a little less the next time they interacted, although she had a fucking annoying habit of making every single thing suggestive or some shit.
“-and supplementary lessons will be required for anyone who doesn’t pass this time round.” Iida raises a hand.
“Yes, Iida?” Aizawa asks. Bakugou’s waiting for the day the teacher snaps; he’s sure it’ll be fucking hilarious.
“What if neither teams are able to acquire the orb?” he asks.
“That’s a sensible question, Iida. In that case, you will be assessed on which ‘victim’ has sustained the least damage. Now, as for the teams this time round-”
As he waits for his name to be called, Bakugou lets his eyes wander around the group to see who else has been hurt, but he doesn’t get very far before he lands on Kirishima again, looking his best friend up and down. The redhead’s superhero costume makes sense, but it doesn’t mean Bakugou understands it. Is it even allowed for someone to be showing that much skin? He should fucking cover up more, or he’s going to be distracting whoever the fuck he’s working with when he becomes a pro.
He drags his gaze away from Kirishima’s body as his name is called.
“Tokoyami and Mina will be partnered up against Bakugou and Kirishima, with Iida and Midoriya facing…”
He supposes this is a best case scenario, seeing as he'd wanted Kirishima as a partner anyway. And he can take both Mina and Tokoyami on pretty fucking easily, so this isn’t going to cause a problem, whichever one's attacking him.
“I hope that you’ve all learnt from your first round, and that you apply improved tactics this time round. Begin when you’re ready. The time limit is still twenty minutes, which starts now,” Aizawa dismisses.
Kirishima is immediately next to Bakugou, giving him a light friendly punch to the arm.
“I’m pretty lucky to have the strongest guy protecting me, huh?” Kirishima asks, already knowing Bakugou wants to fight.
“You fucking bet,” he grins in reply.
*
“What the fuck ?” Bakugou screeches as he leaps over another one of Tokoyami's swings.
The fucker's gotten stronger , he realises as he blasts towards the offending arm. Since their fight at the Sports Festival, he must've worked on something to make sure light wouldn't affect Dark Shadow too much.
So he’s fucking fused himself with the bloody shadow.
Bakugou could still easily destroy this motherfucker, but Kirishima is right behind him and no one's going to get a fucking scratch on him.
“Dark Shadow, to the left!” Tokoyami yells, and the bird retreats from Bakugou's attack for a moment before swerving and heading straight for Kirishima.
“Get the fuck away from him!” Bakugou roars, channelling a blast straight at the bird that almost splits it down the middle. The force of the explosion has the ground rumbling, and an after wave sends Mina hurtling backwards; she's sustained some damage. But Dark Shadow cushions her before she faces any serious injury.
The direction of the wave means that Kirishima doesn't get hit, which is fucking lucky; he has to be more fucking careful.
The two opponents face back to each other, circling slowly. If he wasn't in charge of Kirishima, this bastard would've been done for already. But as it is, Bakugou is going to have to wear the other down so Kirishima doesn't get hurt.
But Tokoyami isn't thinking along those lines. He's about to go for a full-on attack. And, as he builds up his Dark Shadow, he leaves Mina to her own devices.
Bakugou can do the same thing he did with Deku and go for the orb, getting there in time to hopefully cut short the attack on Kirishima.
“Go the orb, dude; I'll be fine!” the redhead yells from behind him. Kirishima has a determined expression on his face, a look of a person who's about to sacrifice something. He trusts Bakugou.
But fuck if he's leaving his Kirishima vulnerable.
Dark Shadow comes pummelling down towards his best friend, and Bakugou throws himself if front of the assault, firing out an explosion that slams Tokoyami back into Mina, but the remnants of Dark Shadow mean that the only way he can protect Kirishima now is with his body, so he does.
As the shadow hits his back, the two boys go rolling, but Bakugou's tucked Kirishima against his chest, so he takes the brunt of it, and when the momentum stops, leaving Bakugou hovering over Kirishima, he doesn't wait a second in asking:
“You good, Shitty Hair?” The redhead gives him a dazzling smile.
“I'm awesome, bro; you're so freaking manly!” And then the bastard hugs him, the force of it flipping them over so Bakugou's back is against the fucking floor. If Bakugou wasn't so fucking relieved, he would've shoved him across the training grounds.
Probably .
They look like idiots, embraced on the floor, but that is how Aizawa approaches them, clearing his throat.
“Gentlemen,” he says, and the two leap apart. Fuck fuck fuck, their teacher wasn't meant to see that. But Bakugou's surprised to find that there's a hint of a smile playing on Aizawa's face. Tokoyami and Mina walk over so they can listen to Aizawa too.
“Neither team was able to acquire the orb, so each team has been assessed based on the state of the ‘victim’. Tokoyami and Mina, you will be attending supplementary lessons for the next week, as Kirishima is untouched.”
They both gape.
“Untouched?” Tokoyami exclaims. “But he's paired up with Bakugou of all people, and I sent Dark Shadow after them! Unless Bakugou defended Kirishima with his…” He trails off, silent in his realisation.
“Bakugou was pretty reckless with Midoriya,” Mina muses. “But the one guy in our year who loves winning the most undermined that instinct to protect Kirishima…”
Bakugou's starting to go red.
“It's not fucking like that-”
“Kirishima, you've got a pretty awesome best friend!” Mina concludes, and Bakugou snaps his mouth shut. He's not going to argue with that. Especially not when Kirishima slings an arm around Bakugou's shoulder and affirms:
“Best bros look after each other, and Bakugou is definitely the best of them all.”
Bakugou blinks and looks at his redhead, who’s gazing back at him softly.
Fuck, I like his beautiful eyes , Bakugou thinks, before the thought is accompanied with a panicked,
Wait...what?!

Captain N - Chapter 20: Round One
Tumblr media
Finding his way to the entrance of the arena was simple enough. Directional arrows on the floor that seemed to have been recently painted guided Captain N to his first real fight. The closer he got to the match, the more sweaty his palms got and the faster his heart raced. He tried to distract himself by looking around the halls of the arena, keeping his mind busy. The hallways reminded him of sixth grade, where his dad took him to a Pro Football game. San Diego Chargers versus the Green Bay Packers. The muffled sounds of the audience cheering at the fight currently going on wasn't too different from that he heard at the football game. The Packers won that game, he remembered. He also remembered the incredibly long car trip and how he was too shy to ask the cheerleaders for their autographs when they were walking around the stadium during the halftime show. But these memories did little to assuage his worries. All these memories offered him were reminders that he was alone in this. Falco, Pit, Little Mac, Ryu and even Zelda had proven themselves to be more capable fighters than him. If it had just been him versus Dracula a few days ago, it certainly wouldn't have ended well for him or the world of Yamajiro. Apart from a few sideways glances by low-level workers in the stadium, Captain N didn't draw too much attention as he walked to the gate.
Then something occurred to him.
His name.
He told the receptionist that his name was Captain N.
The same name that the Koopa and the Waddle Dees and the Kremlings would be searching for.
And now he's about to fight in presumably one of the most widely-viewed events on this planet.
His heart sank to his stomach as he realized how doomed his situation was. Out of the corner of his eye, he could spot a pair of doors that lead somewhere at least resembling a way out. For the briefest of moments, Captain N considered bolting out those doors and running until his feet bled, and then keep running. But he swallowed those cowardly instincts. Zelda promised him she and the others would intervene if he was attacked by someone other than his opponent. Despite Falco being a little rough around the edges, to say the least, he had no reason to distrust them. Captain N took a moment to breathe, mentally went over the techniques he learned the day prior, and walked up to the gate.
On the other side of the wide concrete gateway lied a large arena of dirt with the limits of the ring laid out in white paint. The fight currently going on was between a large, muscular man wearing blue and black pants along with a blue mask that resembled a wrestler's, sparring against another muscular man wearing reed wrestling trunks and sporting a brown Mohawk. The sight of the two massive men facing off against each other made Captain N's knees feel weak. He knew he stood no chance against either of them. Their biceps were almost as big as his head. The two men grappled each other, their powerful forms locked in a standstill. But the match couldn't continue like this forever. The man in the blue mask weakened his stance just enough for the man with the Mohawk to take the advantage and sweep his legs. After a few moments of being pinned to the ground, the man in the blue mask drooped his head, having fallen unconscious. The announcer counted down from ten, which the audience soon joined in on. Upon reaching zero, a blaring horn went off, declaring the man with the Mohawk the winner. The crowd roared with applause, cheering at the display of might. The man posed and flexed his muscles victoriously, sending another chill down Captain N's spine. If the muscular man in the blue mask couldn't defeat this man, what chance did he have? He shook his head, remembering destiny was on his side. He could survive an encounter with Dracula, he could survive this.
"So you're, uh... Captain N?" The bored man standing by the gate asked him, snapping him out of his train of thought. "Yeah, that's me." He confirmed, clumsily shaking his head. "Y'know, a lot of people were expecting to see Ryu fight, so if you're gonna replace him, you better blow me away." the man warned him. "...I'll try my best." Captain N semi-confidently assured him, making him shrug nonchalantly.
"MATCH THREE WINNER: ZANGIEF DEFEATS CRASHER WAKE!" The announcer proclaimed from his booth in the press box. Crasher Wake is hoisted off the ground and onto a stretcher by two R.O.B.s, and is carried back into the underbelly of the stadium. After making a few more victory poses, Zangief peered at Captain N as he walked past him to the locker area. Feeling incredibly weak in the presence of Zangief, Captain N stepped back and watched him almost in awe as he lumbered by, like a lion patrolling the savanna. "You're not getting cold feet, are you?" The attendant asked Captain N. "Nah, don't worry, I'm good." Captain N shakily assured him, not meeting eye contact. "WE HAVE A NEWCOMER FOR OUR NEXT MATCH, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" The announcer proclaimed. This drew a noticeable reaction out of the crowd, who were clearly expecting to see Ryu. "NOW, IF THIS NEWCOMER'S GOT RYU'S APPROVAL, THEN WE OUGHT TO BE IN FOR A REAL TREAT!" The announcer assured the crowd. Captain N took a few deep breaths, mentally preparing himself for the beating he's surely about to receive.
"AND NOW, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN WORLD WARRIOR HISTORY, GIVE UP FOR CAPTAAAAAAAAAIN N!" The announcer introduced him, fast-paced electronic music beginning to play right after. Captain N ran out onto the arena, in full view of everyone in the massive stadium. The stadium had proven to be far more massive than he had initially assumed, holding possibly thousands of men, women and children of various species. Humans, Toad people, animal people that resembled those living in New Leaf Town, and others he was unfamiliar with. The cheering from the massive crowd seemed more halfhearted, clearly unimpressed by this newcomer who was replacing Ryu. Captain N raised both fists in the air in an attempt to bolster his own confidence. The packed stadium was much more populated than any schoolyard brawl back in Midnight Lights. Atop the arena, Captain N spotted more Koopa, Kremlings and Waddle Dees, but they haven't taken action yet. He steeled his nerve, preparing to face the first man he'll be fighting mono a mono. "FACING THIS NEWCOMER, WEIGHING IN AT 110 POUNDS, IT'S GLAAAAAAAAAASS JOE!" The announcer continued, the music shifting slightly to introduce Captain N's opponent. Out stumbled a remarkably scrawny man from the opposite gate, wearing red boxing gloves and white/red shorts, and medium-length blond hair and a long face. The crowd applauded once more, about as enthusiastically as they did for Captain N. Upon seeing his opponent, Glass Joe visibly heaved a sigh of relief at not having to fight Ryu. Captain N almost laughed when he exhaled his built-up breath, easing his nerves a little bit. But he grew worried once more when he saw Glass Joe was wearing boxing gloves, while he wasn't.
Before he could do anything, the announcer initiated the match with "READYYYYYYYYY: FIGHT!". Captain N and Glass Joe moved towards each other. The closer he got, the more Captain N could tell Glass Joe was nervous about the fight, stumbling forward a bit. Once the two got into arm's range, he held his forearms up in front of him, taking a defensive stance. Glass Joe shifted slightly, which gave Captain N a window of opportunity to land a hit. He swiftly delivered a right cross to Glass Joe's abdomen, causing him to stumble back a bit. His defenses remained lowered, so Captain N closed the distance between the two and struck Glass Joe with three more jabs. Glass Joe grunted in pain with each hit, stumbling backward in an attempt to regain the advantage. Captain N wrung his hands out after punching Glass Joe. He had never punched anyone before in his life, thanks to his Zapper and two Boosters for getting him out of previous confrontations. His hands remained slightly sore as Glass Joe regained his footing and managed to cross Captain N across the face. The cushioned boxing gloves did little to weaken the impact, which made Captain N fall over. The announcer remained quiet throughout the match. The crowd started to get more into the match with the intensity emanating throughout the arena rising. Captain N regained his footing and managed to block another jab from Glass Joe. He tries to him him again, but Captain N dodges out of the way. Seizing the opportunity, he struck Glass Joe with four crosses across the face, slightly hurting his fists. Glass Joe then suddenly stepped back just as Captain N was about to strike him again, causing Captain N to fall forward and almost trip. He was quick to correct his stance, and weave out of the way of another one of Glass Joe's strikes. Captain N silently thanked his luck that he was facing a boxer, which he had the most experience from during his training. The dirt shifted around the two as they fought and maintained a short distance from each other. Captain N knew he could jut pull out his Zapper and shoot Glass Joe, but he felt confident enough in his boxing abilities to take him on. While he was reflecting on this, Glass Joe began to wind up a strong uppercut. Fortunately, this was incredibly telegraphed, and Captain N rolled out of the way before Glass Joe could hit him. Glass Joe stumbled forward awkwardly and almost fell on his face. His exhaustion was starting to show as he looked around for his opponent. Taking on a bolder stance, Captain N recalled his training session, yelled "Shoryuken!" and struck Glass Joe with a powerful uppercut. Glass Joe fell to the ground, unconscious. Captain N rubbed his right hand, now more sore from the continued punching. The announcer got back on the speakers and counted down from ten. The audience joined in counting down again. Once the number "one" was reached and the buzzer went off again, he felt a wave of relief wash over him. The audience cheered for him a bit more enthusiastically than when he first entered the arena. A smile growing on his face, Captain N pumped his fists into the air victoriously. It was only then that he realized how cut up his knuckles were. Two R.O.B.s came out and hoisted the unconscious Glass Joe onto a stretcher and carried him back inside the arena.
"LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THE FIRST VICTORY OF CAPTAIN N'S FIGHTING CAREER!" The announcer proclaims, earning another loud cheer from the audience. The minions of Bowser, K. Rool and Dedede atop the arena still haven't intervened, which offered some relief to Captain N. The immense screen beneath the press box displayed a massive bracket of other fighters, which then shifted to show that he had moved on to round two. Beneath the match up between Glass Joe and Captain N was a match up between Dan Hibiki and someone called the Urban Champion. Realizing the next match was about to start soon, he ran back inside the underbelly of the arena and made his way back to the locker room. Zelda was still waiting outside for him when he arrived. "That was incredible!" Zelda congratulated him, rushing up to greet him. Captain N smiled and waved it off humbly. "It was actually a lot easier than I thought it'd be, that Glass Joe guy wasn't tough at all." He remarked. "It was your first bout on your own! Take pride in your accomplishments!" Zelda insisted. He chuckled and relented. "As you wish, your majesty." He joked. Zelda rolled her eyes, and Captain N walked inside the locker room to find Pit, Falco and Doc Louis. "Not bad, kid!" Doc Louis congratulated him. "Yeah! That was awesome! Little Mac's out preparing for his match but I bet he'll think so, too!" Pit eagerly added. "Well, thanks, but it really wasn't that hard." Captain N waved off. "Well, yeah. Glass Joe's got a win loss ratio of 1-99." Doc Louis informed him. Captain N and Falco shared a brief laugh at this revelation, but Captain N quickly stopped himself. "Seriously?" Captain N asked. "Yup, he was one of Little Mac's first opponents when he was up-and-coming." Doc Louis explained. "You think that guy'd get the message by now." Falco snickered. "Well, I think it's cool to see him so determined to win!" Pit defended. "Any effort expended in achieving such a goal is commendable." Zelda chimed in from outside the locker room. It was only then that Captain N spotted Ryu meditating on a bench farther away from the conversation. Ryu seemed undisturbed by the conversation, so Captain N approached him. "So... how do you think I did?" He nervously asked his pseudo-mentor. Ryu didn't respond at first. As Captain N turned back to Doc Louis, Ryu spoke up. "Your technique is solid for a newcomer, but your stance is exploitable. You're lucky your first opponent was someone less skilled." Ryu bluntly stated. Captain N reluctantly nodded in agreement.
"You should protect your fists, too." Ryu noted as he noticed Captain N's cut-up hands. "Oh, right!" Doc Louis remembered, and tossed Captain N a roll of bandages. "Wrap those around your knuckles. It ain't gonna make 'em indestructible but it'll provide some protection." Doc Louis advised him. "Yeah, thanks." Captain N responded, wrapping a generous amount of the bandages around his hands. "You show promise in your skills, Captain." Ryu said to him. Captain N nodded at him gratefully, appreciating the compliment. Suddenly, Pit and Falco exclaimed in surprise. "What happened?" Zelda asked, still outside the locker room. "Dan Hibiki somehow beat Urban Champion!" Pit answered her. "This is the first time that guy's ever seen round two!" Falco added with a smirk. "Looks like you'll be fighting Dan next, Cap." Doc Louis chuckled. "Who's Dan Hibiki?" Captain N asked. "Guy's a joke, you'll be fine." Falco waved off. "It's not smart to underestimate your opponent, Falco." Zelda noted. "Correct. Hubris can easily lead to one's defeat." Ryu agrees. Captain N sat down on a nearby bench and joined Falco and Pit in watching the next match. Little Mac versus Vega. Doc Louis finished another chocolate bar when Pit suddenly remembered something. "Oh! That's not how the Shoryuken works." Pit informed Captain N.
"Huh?"
"It's not just saying 'Shoryuken!' while uppercutting someone."
"Well, I couldn't grasp the subtleties as Ryu almost punched my nose off, so forgive my ignorance."
Ryu chuckled softly. "If we had the time, I could instruct you in the way of the Shoryuken, I would.". "Maybe someday." Captain N smirked. "Shh! The fight's starting!" Falco interrupted, his eyes still glued to the screen. Captain N turned to watch the fight alongside the others. Little Mac came out when his name was announced, who was soon followed by a tall man wearing a simple mask that obscured his face, and was equipped with long claw weapons. Vega was noticeably taller than Little Mac, but then again so was everyone else. Once the fight started, Little Mac proved himself much quicker than Vega. Swiftly dodging around each and every one of Vega's slash attacks, placing strikes when he lets his guard down. Vega's initially calm demeanor weakened more and more as the fight went on. His frustrations at being unable to hit Little Mac even once boiled over. Little Mac took the moment of opportunity and, with a firm uppercut, defeated Vega. The crowd cheered as the match ended, more so for him than Captain N. While this wounded him slightly, he figured Little Mac had more of a reputation. Pit met the results with applause, and Doc Louis nodded approvingly at the screen. "I assume Little Mac won?" Zelda asked, still out of view of the screen. "Sure did." Falco bluntly answered. Ryu was still meditating. Captain N was incredibly impressed with his show of skill, far better than anything he'd seen even on Earth.
Not too long after, Little Mac returned to the locker room. "That was awesome!" Pit eagerly greeted him. "Heh, thanks Pit." Little Mac chuckled. "Not a single hit! You oughta be proud of yourself!" Doc Louis added. "I know, I know." He waved off with a smile. He sat down on a bench and wiped his forehead with a clean towel. "How come you weren't that good against me yesterday?" Captain N jokingly asked him. "I didn't wanna hurt your feelings too much!" Little Mac replied. They shared a laugh and turned to the next fight on the screen: Cammy White versus Akira Yuki. Both proved themselves to be exceptionally skilled martial artists, and the fight went on for longer than the previous two. In the flurry of kicks and punches, the blonde woman in the green leotard fought viciously against the man with dark hair in the white martial arts getup akin to Ryu's. This display of raw skill and power made Captain N uneasy. If Falco was to be trusted, and Dan Hibiki wasn't very threatening, how long could his luck last? This is the World Warrior Tournament, after all. Expecting all his opponents to be chumps would be pure ignorance. With a strong roundhouse kick, Cammy claimed victory over Akira. The crowd erupted in applause for the woman as two more R.O.B.s came out and carried the man back inside the arena. "She's really something, huh?" Little Mac remarked. Captain N nodded, acknowledging how attractive Cammy was as she walked back into the arena, especially in that green leotard. "Yeah, strong, tough, good-looking, she's like the opposite of Zelda over here." Falco teased. Zelda's face grew a bright red as she scrunched up her face, but then sighed, figuring it wasn't worth the effort.
More and more fights went on, and eventually it came time for Captain N to face his next opponent. "Well, off to get my ass kicked." Captain N remarked as he got up, semi-jokingly. "Remember, bold stance, remain firm in your strikes." Ryu reminded him. "Bold stance, firm strikes. Got it." Captain N repeated. "You got this, Cap! Eye of the tiger!" Doc Louis encouraged him. "Go Captain N!" Pit cheered. Falco only offered a solid nod at Captain N. As he left the locker room, Zelda wished him good luck before he left, and reminded him that they'll be watching over him. Smiling at her, Captain N thanked her and made his way to the entrance. He jogged along the way, feeling more confident in his skills, and more importantly, the supposed lack of skills in his opponent. He passed by a couple more R.O.B.s before reaching the gate, where the same attendant from before. "Gotta say, didn't think you'd see round two." He said to Captain N. "Thanks for the words of encouragement." he jokingly replied, jogging in place to pump himself up. "Well, let's hope your luck persists." The attendant wished him. He nodded at him, and soon after the announcer came back on. "AND NOW, FOR THE FIRST ROUND TWO OF HIS CAREER, GIVE IT UP FOR CAPTAIN N!" He almost yelled, signaling him to run back into the arena. The crowd seemed more enthusiastic to see him, as their applause was a little louder than the last time he made an appearance. Looking up, he saw the same Koopa and minions from before, but now they seemed to be whispering something to each other. He could only hope it was unrelated to him, and reminded himself that his allies are at his back. "FACING THIS NEWCOMER, WEIGHING IN AT 163 POUNDS, HEEEEEEEEERE'S DAN HIBIKIIIIIIIIII!" The announcer boldly continued, whereupon a man with long, tied-back brown hair and pink martial arts getup burst out of the opposing gate to greet the audience. His arrogance was immediately apparently, jumping around and trying to hype up the crowd, which only offered half-hearted applause. Dan didn't seem to notice or mind, and turned to face Captain N. "So YOU'RE my next opponent?" Dan loudly asked Captain N. Before he could answer, Dan gave a loud "HA HA HA!". "I'm one of the GREATEST martial-artists in the world, and I'm self taught! Some kid like you's got no chance! You might as well give up now!" Dan continued to brag. Captain N remained quiet, perfecting his bold stance as Dan danced about. "READYYYYYYY: FIGHT!" The announcer declared, initiating the match.
"Here, I'll let you have the first hit, just for-" Dan bragged, but was immediately cut off by Captain N punching him across the face. Dan was clearly not expecting this, and stumbled back clumsily. Captain N's fist was less sore than before, thanks to the bandages around his fist. "Heh, well, I let you have that one! Now the real fight begins!" Dan rebounded, his ego recovering. He approached Captain N, who maintained a safe distance between the two while maintaining a strong stance. Dan tried to fake him out with half-jabs, but Captain N kept his hands up and blocked the jabs. Suddenly, Dan then jumped back and launched at Captain N with several spiral kicks, yelling "Dankukyaku!". He jumped out of the way, but was hit in the side by one of the kicks. It wasn't a particularly powerful kick, but it still partially knocked the air out of him. Stumbling over, Dan took the opportunity to gloat further. "I hope you're ready for a beating!" He boasted, readying another attack as Captain N got up. He could tell the audience was getting more into the fight from the atmosphere throughout the air. "And now, behold my power!" Dan declared, shooting his hand forward and yelling "Gadoken!", shooting a ball of blue energy at Captain N.  He recoiled and braced himself for it, but it dissipated right before it could hit him. Dan looked down at his hand, confused by this. Before he could attempt another attack, Captain N delivered another strong right cross, knocking Dan down. He stepped back as Dan writhed on the ground, clutching his face. Dan tried to get back up, but Captain N quickly struck him back down with a punch to the back of the head. Now completely vulnerable, Dan fell victim to a flurry of Captain N's punches. He disregarded any technique and wailed on Dan, left hood after right hook after left hook. He tried to raise his arms in defense, but Captain N quickly subverted these defenses. With one final strike from both his fists, Captain N knocked out Dan. One countdown from ten later, the buzzer went off, and Captain N was once again declared the winner. He took a moment to catch his breath after the fight, and raised his fists victoriously. The crowd cheered even louder than before, now growing more fond of this young newcomer. "LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THIS YOUNG CAPTAIN N HAS JUST WON NOT ONLY THE SECOND FIGHT OF HIS CAREER, BUT THE SECOND IN A ROW! NEXT STOP: ROUND THREE!" The announcer proclaimed, boosting Captain N's ego somewhat. Two R.O.B.s came out to carry Dan off, and Captain N walked back to the locker room.
In the press box, in a dark, private room, a large man wearing a red hat and uniform was watching the match intently. As Captain N was declared the winner, he huffed to himself, displeased. A small portal opened behind him, where Kamek floated through to speak to the man. "Are you certain you don't want to move in on him now?" Kamek asked the man. The man stood up and shook his head. "If this 'Captain N' is who you really say he is, I'm certain his next opponents will be his undoing. His beginner's luck WILL run out, I'm sure of it.". "Dracula thought much the same, M. Bison. Vega already failed you earlier in the Tournament." Kamek reminded him. "I understand that, Kamek." M. Bison barked back. "You may have some sovereignty from the three kings because of Shadaloo supplying additional arms and manpower, but remember who's holding your leash." Kamek shot back at him impatiently. M. Bison snarled at this comment, but his eyes remained on the arena. "Rest assured I have my plans in place. If this 'Captain' can somehow survive the challengers to come, Shadaloo will ensure he'll never live to see the outside of the stadium.".

WWE UK Championship Tournament Thoughts
WWE’s UK Championship Tournament provided what it promised: It was very UK, it had a championship, and a tournament. Thus, it is a success. FIVE STARS.
Wait what? I should say more? That isn’t an acceptable standard of review? Well, shut up, Strawman. Let’s do this!
- God the facility is gorgeous. Definitely getting Hammerstein Ballroom vibes, which is always good. In general, it just makes the whole thing feel classy. It was like the whole tournament has its pinky up, slowing sipping Earl Grey and discussing the price of tea in China. It also makes for an excellent juxtaposition for the violence. I don’t know what it is, but the cinematic cacophony of the very nice ballroom and the brutal forearms made gave this event a sort of timeless quality.
 - The best part of overseas wrestlers is the stories of how young they started training. I swear they said something about Pete Dunne (ohmygod he’s amazing – more on him later) being 23 but having been a wrestler for 11 years. It’s like they live in Mad Max times and anything goes. If you had told me one of the competitors learned a suplex before he was potty trained, I’d believe you but secretly decide to Google it later, then forget and tell everyone about it even though I hadn’t verified it. It just sounds true, you know?
 - The first round had a ton of filler. A lot of these guys clearly aren’t ready for WWE. But someone had to get pinned, right? Good exposure for them too. In my head, I christened the first round “The Pay Me More Classic”. Someone’s going to catch up on some bills when they start getting booked again!
 - Every time a wrestler scowls at the crowd, drink.
 - You are dead.
 - I’m sorry.
 - Apparently, from this sample size, “I’m an angry lad from a tough family” is the UK’s most popular gimmick, narrowly beating out “Look at my weird ear” and “Moustaches are personality”.
 - It feels like there’s way more heels than faces here but that might just be because even some of the faces look angry. I’ve never seen more pissy looking people in one room since I was hanging out with Trump in that Russian hotel. Good times….good times…
 - I enjoyed the story told through the tournament. Inevitably every tournament tells some variation of the early injury story but I thought they did a nice play on it here. Bate didn’t sell it very well at first but he came out for the final match like he was about to tell some death bed secrets. And if you aren’t using wrestling tournaments as a format to tell stories, then what’s the point? Every wrestling tournament should be what we wish actual sports tournaments were. It should have the crazy upsets of every March Madness and the through-line of stories every good Superbowl matchup does (basically, anyone with Kurt Warner). In real sports, we don’t always get the best opponents because real life is a thing and some teams, no matter how fascinating, suck, but when you pick the winners? Wrestling tournaments should always be some variation of Cavs/Warriors or Indians/Cubs.
 - What caught my eye was the way they established Dunne as a threat night one. Every single match he wrestled after, the crowd was on their feet. Not because he was a good wrestler (but ohmygod he is) but because he had a character. The villain makes the story. By creating the mystique of Pete Dunne, every battle versus him was a mini-morality play, pitting the scrappy underdog who believes in not just himself but the tournament as an idea against a man so vicious he will destroy the very tournament he wants to win because he rather take everyone with him than die alone. Dunne is self-destructive, and therefore, more dangerous than anyone. A man who doesn’t even care for his own welfare is a hazard to everyone else’s. That gave the spectacular Mark Andrews and the underrated Tyler Bate (underrated because I don’t think he showed everything he was capable of until the last two bouts) someone to define THEM. Defining a babyface’s motivation is tricky because it’s so cliché and honestly, vague (“I wanna be the best!” “I just want to follow my dreams!”), but heels are inherently more complex, and thus, are useful for filling in the blanks of the hero; anything the villains stands FOR, we can presume the hero stands AGAINST. Dunne executed his role with vigor and gave the viewer the impression Andrews and Dunne were folk heroes. Just incredible.
 - God, Devlin is a mess. I mean, let’s just start with the fucking hilarious fact he DOESN’T want to be compared to Balor. YOU DON’T WANT TO BE COMPARED TO HIM?! THEN WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE HIS STUNT DOUBLE?! Why would you even come out in that jacket with his stupid 90’s comic book character haircut (I’m lying, I love the Undercut) and walk down to the ring like you’re mo-capping him for a video game?! My theory is he doesn’t speak English, and thus his contradictory word salad is null and void. This is what I have to tell myself.
 - But it’s not just that. He was just average to be honest. I think WWE unfairly created expectations that he couldn’t live up to with an average but not exciting moveset (yes, this is somewhat required from heels, but it doesn’t mean he has to be boring either) and a lack of charisma his counterpart possesses in spades. His heel work came off like he was doing a bit, it never felt authentic for me. His face didn’t sell it and ugh, he never stopped smiling. If you’re going to smile, at least do a creepy one, you know? My number one problem with wrestlers is when you can tell they don’t believe what they’re saying/doing. Conviction is so important for this, more important that it is for a traditional actor, even, because wresting carries with it the uncertain expectation that it could be real. No one suspects Girl Meets World is real. But Raw is up in the air to a certain segment of fans, by nature of wrestling’s…well, nature. Devlin didn’t make me believe. He just seemed like he was having a lot of fun pretending to be a bad guy.
 - Though I’m working on the theory that WWE purposely oversaturated us with Devlin’s obnoxious backstory knowing we’d turn on him, like an intended Roman Reigns/Old Cena situation (aka NXT Bo Dallas, who was too beautiful for this world). This is dangerous: a self-aware WWE is the first sign of the apocalypse.
 - Whenever Michael Cole doesn’t have Vince McMahon in his ear, he’s startlingly competent. He did a great job calling the moves, setting up Nigel, and generally sounding like he cared. This is a recurring pattern (remember how great he was during Beast in the East?) and makes you wonder if they’re being overproduced. Or maybe Cole is just bored by Raw at this point. Yelling at Byron Saxton for three hours would tire me out too.
 - Pete Dunne is Kevin Owens by way of Daniel Bryan, and thus, shouldn’t exist and is a threat to tear a hole in spacetime. I can’t praise him enough, from his stiff looking work to his surprising willingness to both take and sell for smaller guys to his preternatural skill leering at people like they stole his birthday cake. I don’t want to fall into hyperbole here and make him out to be the second coming of Jesus (our savior lost in the first round, per the crowd) but with a little more training – cameras, presentation and the usual stuff almost finished grapplers polish up on – he’s Intercontinental Champion. Big fan.
 - Special space here to praise Danny Burch as well. Just polished to an insane degree, he had everything you look for in a television wrestler. The expertise of the Performance Center continues to just blow me away. Put this man back on NXT or promote him. But do something with him. If Pete Dunne is almost finished, Danny Burch is a complete product. Oh, and I’d be remised if I didn’t mention Wolfgang too. He comes off (along with Trent Seven) as the wrestler who is most themselves. Wolfy possesses that innate ability to endear himself because he’s clearly just a guy who loves this so much. That kind of thing goes far. It’s a natural relationship with the crowd, the kind of thing guys like Ziggler would kill for.
 -  All in all, it didn’t reach the highs of the CWC’s Ring of Honor Lite (same great taste, fewer calories!) meets WWE, but it on a whole, it told a better yarn and I’m so biased toward three act stories, so I’m inclined to favor the UK Tournament.- It was better than that new old-timey Pepsi but not as good as glass bottle Coke.
