It's December 25th. 🌈 To quote the greatest science communicator of our time, Mr. Neil de Grasse Tyson, "On this day long ago, a child was born who, by age 30, would transform the world. Happy Birthday, Isaac Newton," who was born on this day in 1642 in Woolsthorpe-by-Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, England. And so today, we celebrate the birthday of one of the most important human beings who ever graced our planet. Isaac Newton was an extraordinary physicist and mathematician who is credited with laying the foundation of classical mechanics and jump-starting the scientific revolution. He believed that all of nature is governed by universal laws that can be expressed mathematically. Newton’s list of accomplishments are long and profound, and his influence will be felt forever.

Isaac's father died two months before he was born; his mother remarried when he was three. His stepfather died when Isaac was 12, and Isaac was pulled out of school to help run the family estate. Isaac seemed to show little promise in school, anyway, as his reports described him as idle and inattentive. However, Isaac soon showed that he had no talent or interest in managing an estate, either.

An uncle persuaded Isaac's mother to let him go back to school. This time he must've shown some promise because the school's headmaster later convinced Isaac's mother to send him to University. Isaac entered Trinity College of Cambridge in 1661 at the age of 19 and began studying philosophy, science, and mathematics in earnest. Between the time Trinity College closed in 1665 due to a bubonic plague pandemic and 1667 when he returned to Cambridge, Isaac returned home, and, free to study whatever he wanted to, gobbled up all of the mathematics texts he could lay his hands on. During this time, Isaac developed calculus, the law of gravitation, and different theories on optics.

Newton is credited with the discovery of the prism (which is how a rainbow works). At the time, scholars hotly debated the subject of whether or not color was an intrinsic property of light. Newton settled the debate when he discovered that a light ray entering a prism is split into different colors (or, wavelengths). This work led Newton to construct the world's first practical reflecting telescope.

Newton is probably best known, however, for his work with gravity which led him to discover the famous three laws of motion.

Law of Inertia – An object at rest remains at rest or an object in motion remains in motion until an outside force acts upon it.

Law of Acceleration – An applied force on an object is equal to the rate of change in its momentum (F=ma or Force equals mass times acceleration).

Law of Action – For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Also related to Newton's work with gravity is his work with heliocentrism. He determined that a smaller object doesn't actually orbit around a larger object, but rather the two bodies orbit around their common center of gravity. With this realization and ever-more precise measurements of the sun and planets, the heliocentric model of the solar system has continued to become more and more accurate over the years.

Isaac Newton has unquestionably secured his place in history. He's widely regarded as one of the most important people who's ever lived. Many of his ideas still hold true and his equations are still in use today. When sending a probe to the outskirts of the solar system, NASA scientists don't rely on Einstein's relativity to work out the math – they use Newtonian physics equations.

Halloween prompts year 2 day 29

Dont get him wrong, Danny had some big feelings about finding out his mom had cheated on his dad. He had even bigger feeling about the divorce and the whole shipping him off to live with his bio dad.

He wasn't going to lie. The new school was actually really nice and he had made friends quickly, though at first it was tough to weed out the ones who just wanted to get close to the Wayne family name and not him as a person. He didn't get to chat with Tucker and Sam a whole lot due to thier schedules but he and Jazz always made time for eachother.

His life had surprisingly taken a massive upturn. Vlad had been arrested soon after Danny warned the Waynes about him, making Danny believe either his dad it felt wierd calling him that but da-Jack made it perfectly clear he should never call him that was Batmans sugar daddy or somthing or maybe the Waynes got kidnapped so much that the bats bugged the whole place. Danny hoped not, he had done a whole karaoke thing with Jazz during thier video call the other night and he really didn't want anyone to hear thier shared cat screeching.

Jazz was super happy to learn Danny had joined the Volleyball team and Astronomy club. He used to play Volleyball in middle school and played defense a lot. He was even the best on the team but he stopped playing after one too many times of his parents forgetting to show up or causing a ruckus whenever they thought a ghost was nearby.

But it was better now

The portals were shut down by the bats. The GIW where expertly obliterated from existence. His parents are getting court mandated mental help. There are no more ghosts. No more ghost hunters.

And no need for Phantom

Danny doesn't think he's ever felt this free. He could go out to eat with friends with his way too big allowance that his...dad gives him and he didn't have to worry about having to ditch them to go fight a bad guy. He could eat dinner with a family who was a little awkward but surprisingly open to him and the food was delicious and didn't attack him. He could actually sleep at night and feel safe doing it. His siblings liked spending time with him and getting to learn anout him and thier "bonus sister" Jazz.

He had no reason to use his powers.

Until the grandfather clock he was walking past swung open like a door and he locked eyes with Nightwing coming out of it. They just stared at eachother before Danny just said, "I don't want to know which one your dating. Just know I have a bat and im willing to use it in the most ungodly of ways." And walked back to his room.

He wouldn't be a superhero, but he was willing to be a supervillian to protect his new family. Or in this case make sure Nightwing, a rumored playboy, knew better than to go breaking hearts in this household.

Dating Blaise Zabini would include...

Your first interaction being him asking you to the Yule Ball in fourth year

And at first you’re just kinda like “huh?” because you had never spoken to this kid in the four years you had been at school

But you somehow find yourself agreeing to go anyway

So you go to Hogsmeade with your friends and buy dress robes and a stupid pair of heels that you could barely walk in

The day of the ball you were shitting bricks and just wondering if you should pretend to be sick and then avoid Blaise for the rest of your schooling

And your friends are just like “fuck that - you are going to the ball and you will have fun”

And to your surprise - you did have fun

It was kinda weird at first, as the only other time you two had spoken was when he had asked you to the ball

But then you started actually having a conversation and it was as if something had clicked

(He had also sat out on the dancing with you when you twisted your ankle in the stupid heels, even though lots of people were inviting him to dance and he obviously itching to go)

It was a lovely night overall and you even shared a peck on the cheek at the end of the night but you didn’t show much interest in each other after that and basically went back to being strangers

That was until the following year when you joined the quidditch team and started reconnecting with him through that

So after a few months of chatting, flirting and training together he asked you on a date and you accepted

And the rest was history

You don’t really get along with each others friends

Your friends think he’s a bit of an arrogant dick and while you don’t deny that, you know how sweet he truly is when its only you two

And his friends are all the popular Slytherin kids so naturally they dislike you

Date nights on Saturdays which ranges from eating dinner on the astronomy tower to getting drunk and seeing how long you could play exploding snap in the library before getting kicked out (high score was half an hour)

Him not being a big PDA person

Not big on cuddles either but will still enjoy constantly touching and holding you (eg. Letting you lean into him or rest your head in his lap, holding your hand, running his fingers through you hair etc.)

Sneaking around for alone time

Its not as if you two don’t have anywhere to be horny idiots you both just get a thrill out of sneaking about

His mother inviting your family over for Christmas during your sixth year and you’re both nervous as fuck

Your parents being a bit iffy about your boyfriend and his mum purely because of the rumours about Mrs Zabini and her many husbands

Only Mrs Zabini is the loveliest person you’ve ever met in spite of her possibly being a murderer

Having a lot of arguments during the beginnings of your relationship because Blaise is bad at addressing his emotions and you’re too good at addressing yours which often ends up in a lot of miscommunications

Encouraging him to open up a bit more which leads to a bit more arguing

As you date for longer you both learn how to read each other a little easier which leads to less arguing

Breaking up during seventh year when you join DA

You both spend the year feeling even more depressed than you already were

Finding him after the fire in the room of requirement

Making up straight away and fighting side by side for the rest of the battle because you both realise that life is too short to not be with each other

And you also both know that theres a high chance of one of you dying

Vowing to never leave each other again after Voldemort is defeated

South Korea's Innospace to launch rocket from Brazil in December, says official

South Korean aerospace and defense company Innospace will be the first private business to send up a rocket from the Alcantara launch center in northern Brazil in December, the president of Brazilian Space Agency (AEB), Carlos Moura, said on Friday.

Innospace, which plans to make low-cost small satellite launches more accessible from multiple locations around the globe, is still developing its rocket and will test it with an experimental launch from Alcantara, Moura said in an interview.

The South Korean company is developing a hybrid rocket powered by both solid and liquid fuel.

Michel van Biezen - oh my god I love him. I think he uses Sears and Zemansky's University Physics for example problems. His channel has 10k videos (!!!) and is very well-organized. He also lectures on math (from 5th grade to linear algebra), chem & organic chemistry, and astronomy.

Calculus

The Organic Chemistry Tutor - I mostly watch his videos on Calculus I-III and Differential Equations, but he also covers physics and chemistry.

Nancypi - Precalculus, Calculus I, and some of Calculus II. I barely showed up to calc lectures my first semester so she was a great help. also i have a crush on her

Michel van Biezen - I usually don't watch his math videos because his notation and techniques are different from what my prof makes us use

Astronomy

Urknall, Weltall, und das Leben - my literal dream channel. perfect levels of dryness, and videos are usually at least 45 minutes long. It's entirely in German though lmao

BUTTERFLY | KAZ BREKKER

Summary: You find your presumed dead little brother from The Nest when you come to search for your lost pendant.

Stars were bright tonight. You, Kaz and Jordie laid on the roof of your home, taking turns to watch the stars through that little telescope Da had brought from his trip to the town. It was late, Da probably would have wanted you to sleep already. But you would take the responsibility if needed, your brothers were far too endeared about all the constellations and galaxies so you’d stick to their bedtime. You had taken a few throw blankets and pillows with you as you stared at the sky, and you had to admit that it was a good bedtime story of sorts to look at the stars.

It was quiet, a slight breeze blowing through the fields around you, rustling the leaves and occasional crickets chirping being the only sounds there. And of course, you three talking to each other, you teaching astronomy to them. Kaz was wide eyed with wonder, trying to decipher how big the world actually was. He laid in between you and Jordie, his little hands on his belly as his eyes roamed the sky.

“I like the Big Dipper,” Kaz giggled. “It looks like a boiler.”

“Yeah, I guess it does look a little like a boiler.” You smiled and Jordie chimed in.

“See that bright star over there?” Jordie pointed at the twinkling light in the sky. “That’s Vega, it’s part of the Lyra constellation. One of the brightest stars in the sky. It’s about two and a half times as big as our Sun and isn’t very far away from us.”

Kaz looked at it through the telescope, his mouth forming a little “o” as the new information settled into his mind. The boys talked for a while and you listened to them, feeling happy that you had managed to plant your love for astronomy into them.

After they quit talking for a moment, you shared yet another fact. “Did you boys know that some stars aren’t actually stars? They are planets. Some are a dozen times bigger than our own planet.”

“Really?” Kaz asked, and you smiled a little more, nodding.

You laid in silence for the next few moments, before you felt something falling down on your shoulder and looked down, seeing Kaz fast asleep. You glanced at Jordie who took the hint, crawling back to the roof hatch with his pillow and blanket, as you scooped Kaz up and carefully carried him through the hatch. Jordie returned to collect the rest of your pillows and blankets, and you tucked Kaz into the bed, kissing his forehead before you stood up, keeping guard that Jordie, too, would go into bed. And after he was under the covers as well, you sat beside his bed, but he rolled his eyes.

“I’m not a baby, I don’t need to be kissed goodnight,” he playfully scoffed and you pouted.

“Too bad,” you chuckled and pressed a kiss on his forehead too, causing him to rub it away.

Then, you left his bedside and made your way over to your own bed in your own little nook behind the curtain, falling asleep not long after.

Kaz Rietveld sat alone under the bridge, with his mind all meddled up, flashbacks consuming his mind. Just hours earlier, he had done the impossible and swam to the shore using his dead brother as a raft, knowing that no one would wait for him at the shore - you probably thought he’s dead too and had left the area.

The ground was cold and wet, blankets had been taken away and only your necklace had been left behind - only evidence they had ever been here. Even so, it no longer felt like The Nest. Maybe better so, Kaz thought as he hugged his knees tighter, watching the canal water flow in front of him. Your necklace clung in between his fingers, the butterfly pendant bringing a memory of your bright smile into his mind, when you had seen it for the first time.

"You like it?" Da had asked as he helped to clasp it around your neck while you fingered the pendant with a wide smile.

“I love it.” you replied as you spun around, your eyes shifting to your brothers as you opened your arms for them, and soon you all had been hugging.

Kaz had no idea where to go from here, what to do - he only knew he wanted to find Jakob Hertzoon and make him and all those who helped him pay. But he needed a plan, a good one, and he wasn’t in a state to do it alone. Not yet, at least.

He saw a shadow being cast over him and slightly flinched as he looked up, seeing a girl stopping a little way from him. It took him a moment for him to glance at your face, and then his eyes widened when he realised it was you - his sister.

“Kaz?” you gasped, taking quick steps toward him, and he stood up as your smile spread into your whole face and tears glistened in your eyes as you lurched forward, enveloping him in a tight hug. “You're alive!”

Kaz let out a sob as he threw his own arms around you, clinging into you and never wanting to let go. He knew he needed your comfort, your warmth, you kissing the top of his head and telling him everything would be alright. You'd tuck him to bed tonight and give him a kiss on his forehead, moving to sit against the wall so he could be splayed over your lap, and you would be stroking his hair until he fell asleep. Just for a moment, he'd feel at home, he would feel comforted, this nightmare wouldn’t look like more than that. A nightmare, his will to have vengeance would be pushed further on. Because for tonight, the growing darkness inside him could wait.

But then your touch started to burn his every sense, flashbacks to rotten flesh invading his mind and he pulled back from you, pushing you away harshly. You stumbled back with a frown as Kaz started to rub his skin in order to make that disgusting feeling go away.

“What’s wrong?” you asked, seeing Kaz just staring at the distance, breathing heavily. His flashbacks just went on, he smelled rotten flesh, felt it below his fingertips, he was pushed under water - it was Reaper's Barge all over again. From the haze, he saw you trying to reach out for him again and he recoiled back.

"Don't. Don't touch me," Kaz said, his voice shaking as he backed away from you. You retreated your hand, your mouth opening and closing a few times, but you ended up not saying anything. A cold breeze blew through the alley, and Kaz shivered, his clothes weren’t exactly the best ones for a weather like this.

“Saints,” you mumbled, immediately taking off your coat and gently laying it on Kaz’s shoulders, and Kaz immediately welcomed the warmth. You buttoned it up, careful not to touch Kaz and then nodded behind you. “I’ve managed to get a small room from Eighth Street. Mrs. Drom surely will want to take you in too, she’s been a big help during… these days I’ve thought I lost you both.”

Kaz eyed you for a moment before scoffing. “Didn’t you learn anything from Hertzoon?”

You sighed. “Mrs. Drom isn’t like him. She took me in because she saw I’m cold and shivering. I help her around her shop and she pays me with kruge, and in addition to that, I get to live in her guest room.”

Kaz stared at the ground, remembering how Hertzoon had also felt like he’s too good to be true. But at the same time, he knew he didn’t have much choice, the streets could be dangerous for a little boy like him. He needed to gather strength to have his revenge, to have a plan how to have that revenge, how to find Hertzoon and all those who helped him.

“Fine,” he muttered, handing your pendant to you. “But just for a little while.”

He already knew he couldn’t tell anything about his plans to you. You’d try to talk him out of it, and as much as he loved you, he knew you wouldn’t understand what he had lost. Apparently, he couldn’t even touch you anymore, he couldn’t cuddle up to you in need of comfort. He knew you’d be disappointed when he’d show the bubbling darkness inside him eventually - and somehow, he knew he had to become something you would be scared of once he would grow up.

But for now, he should go with you. Let you be his big sister for some days, or maybe weeks more. Maybe he’d even find some comfort within you, but eventually, he’d have to abandon his old life to be completely reborn…
