road trip slide show!
It’s not the destination, but the journey” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Road-trip to view the 2024 total Solar Eclipse in Missouri, USA was packed with experiences (only 3 minutes of which was viewing the total eclipse). See/read the slide show under the cut!
Tumblr media
Our journey started on Saturday and we expected to spend at least 5-6 hours in the car each day (it is 12 hours drive time to our eclipse viewing location in Missouri). Actual time spent on road each day was around 9 🤣 - so our greatest effort on the math figuring out how long our days would be. Ufda, getting to your Airbnb at 9pm each day is exhausting.
There are three humans and one animal on this trip, myself, husband, friend, and friend’s dog.
First event we experienced: the Mississippi River!
Now this needs some background - I live 3 minute drive away from the Mississippi in Minnesota. Could walk to it if I wanted. I’ve been to the headwaters in Itasca, MN and the delta in Louisiana. I cross this river almost daily for the grocery store or to see family … it’s like a big part of life where I live.
We arrived in Guttenberg, IA to Lock and Dam #10 and I’m like - ooh big river! Hey guys, which River is this?
🤔
Yeah, the big River here in this part of the United States is …. The Mississippi River. 🤦
Laughs all around - we enjoyed a short walk near the lock and dam, enjoyed all the fun street names, found a bathroom, and got back on the road.
Tumblr media
By the way - one of our road trip companions was very cute and a very good puppers for the entire trip. Just amazing!
Tumblr media
So day two - husbeast (husband) loudly stated a desire for a roadside attraction during today’s driving. The world’s biggest something, or weirdest whatever …. Something cool. Our friend did some kick butt research and found …. American Giants museum in Atlanta, Illinois. A mere 15 minutes off the hwy; and we were incredibly fortunate cause it was the first weekend they were open on Sundays too!
Upon entering the main downtown area we were greeted by: Paul Bunyon (hot dog man)
And our Minnesota hearts were so happy to see this large giant friend who is also a Paul Bunyan - but different name spelling cause of copyright issues 🤣🤣🤣 (or so the sign stated).
The dog was NOT a fan of hot dog Paul Bunyon man, but we were!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
And the museum - y’all it was top notch! A single room, but like, FABULOUS write ups for the history of the Big Friends fiberglass works. Just awesome. The volunteers - also top notch. So friendly and happy to chat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And if you’re anywhere near there, Memorial Day weekend they are getting one of the last remaining 6 Texaco giants!
Back on the road and onto our next stop which was ….St. Louis and the Gateway Arch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And guess what! We saw a BIG RIVER! Hey guys, which River is this ….. it’s the Mississippi, still. 🤣🤣
Tumblr media
Back on the road to Union, MO to rest up for ECLIPSE DAY!
Many many many friends and family informed us that the traffic TO the eclipse would be pretty good … but leaving the eclipse location would double or triple driving time. WORTH IT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Many people have written about viewing an eclipse, how it’s an amazing experience. The highlights for me?
When the sun is totally eclipsed you are able to see SUNSET colors at the horizon EVERYWHERE - which is just like …. I love clouds and sunsets and that was AWESOME
Again, totally eclipsed you can see STARS (maybe it’s a planet?) - like the brightest starts are visible!
as the sun returns, the sky opposite the sun looks like twilight, while the light illuminating your front is like day. It’s wild.
total drive time on eclipse day:
1.5 hours from Airbnb to eclipse viewing spot
4 hours to travel same distance away from eclipse
Oh, and side note, traveling to our overnight after the eclipse, we crossed the Mississippi again. “Hey guys, what big river is this?” 🤣
The eclipse was a real highlight of the trip. But not the only highlight.
On the final day of travel, our picnic lunch location took us to a small town in Iowa. As we turn off the highway we see “Welcome to Riverside, IA” and immediately husbeast is exclaiming …
“We’re going to the future birthplace of CAPTAIN KIRK!” We’re huge Star Trek fans in this house - and we met the friend traveling with us thru a Star Trek podcast group many years ago. She’s been to Trekfest in Riverside before, and highly recommends attending. It’s a sweet gathering of wonderful Star treky people … and the few locals we spoke to in Riverside were very friendly!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fabulous trip. on final count, we crossed the Mississippi 4 times, and I asked which River it was only 3 times. Go me.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t just about the destination, but the journey along the way.

The first full US tour we did, back in 2017 — Free Throw’s “Bear Your Mind” tour.
It was our first time playing basically all of these cities. All at 200-500 ish capacity rooms.
In the first week of the tour, Free Throw bought us all an Airbnb in the woods of Wisconsin so we could all hang, grill out, and get to know each other more. That night was a wildly unhinged night and crazy to watch as a sober person.
We had just released The Manson Family a couple months prior, and we were so excited to be playing in front of anyone at all; whether it was a couple dozen people, or a couple hundred people. I was hellbent on making the best, most memorable impression we could, going so far as to even have The Manson Family neon sign onstage with us, as well as a Heart Attack Man neon sign to match. The signs got smashed at our Houston show (we couldn’t afford hard cases for them, so we were transporting them in styrofoam boxes) so on the day off between Houston and Atlanta, I somehow managed to track down a neon sign artist in New Orleans after not sleeping for the night and he graciously fit us into his busy schedule to repair them that day.
We were making barely any money as is and only selling a few shirts and records a night. We were sleeping in the van and living off of instant ramen noodles and the Taco Bell dollar menu. There were some nights where I even asked the audience if anyone could let us stay at their place. This led to some very interesting situations—one night an extremely drunk but nonetheless hospitable couple forced me, Adam, and Ty to sleep in their bed while they both slept on the couch and watched Moana at full volume.
It was a struggle, but it was a very special, exciting, and eye-opening time for us. The fact that we played Los Angeles for our first time and there were like 5 people singing along was incredibly exciting.
Mom Jeans joined us on the West Coast leg of this tour too—to my knowledge, it was their first support tour.
We’ve grown a lot as a band; enough to where we can headline our own shows now; and while our growth/all the tours we’ve done since have been incredibly fun and exciting, the summer of 2017 was truly one of the most adventurous and best times of my life so far. It was all so new and the beginning of something amazing.
The fact that our first headlining tour earlier this year was Arm’s Length and Blood Root’s first full US tours as well was very rewarding to be able to provide that kind of experience for other bands.
Touring is not easy, but the relentless grind has made the high moments even more gratifying. Going on tour, pouring my heart out night after night, sleeping irregularly, being physically exhausted, in close quarters with my best friends has taught me unique life lessons I wouldn’t learn any other way, and has put it all into a perspective that’s hard to really fully quantify. Some days are very hard and some days I don’t feel 100% myself, but I don’t take a second of any of this for granted.
Living this life is exactly what I wanted when I was a little kid just starting to play music.
If I could go back and experience the summer of 2017 all over again I would in a heartbeat.

Weekend in Knoxville
Tumblr media
An unintended side effect of moving back to the East Coast has been getting the chance to explore the South more than I ever really had before. My friend Lian and I went to Arkansas in ninth grade. I went to Austin once a year to see my friend Chelsea in the Beforetimes. And like everyone else, I’ve had many a layover in Atlanta. Someone joked this weekend, in fact, that when you die, your first stop on your way to the afterlife is Atlanta. That’s pretty much the entirety of my Southern experience, though, aside from last year when I also got to travel out to West Virginia to research the Mothman.
Thus, it’s been delightful to be able to journey to Knoxville, TN two years in a row for the Dead and Lovely podcast meetup. The 10.5 hour drive there is a fun opportunity to see other states we don’t have much experience with. Or, well, rather it’s mostly an opportunity to see a fuckload of Virginia, because that state goes FOREVER. I’ll make a separate post. But anyway.
Like last year, it was a magical time with phenomenal people. I have always found the sort of happenstance ways in which we meet folks who become super important to us fascinating. I met Mark, for example, when he tweeted about Krampus before everyone and their mom knew who Krampus was. Someone must’ve (manually) RT’d him into my timeline, and now hundreds of people listen to us talk shit every week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarly, I somehow came across Dead and Lovely in my search for horror podcasts, stuck with it, joined their social groups, and in my lockdown loneliness, decided to dive into their Friday night Discord chats. And now I have amazing friends. Sometimes the Internet rules. Which feels like an absurd thing to say the week that Apartheid Clyde is systematically dismantling the only social network I’ve ever truly loved since Livejournal, but I guess I’m taking this opportunity to bask in the nostalgia of what was and what could have been.
Anyway, Knoxville is a cool ass city, if also a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, it is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive to stay there. This year we managed to find the tiniest of AirBnBs for a marginally reasonable rate — $208 for two nights in a full bed in a room the size of a large closet with a check-in time of 5pm. Hotels in the city under $150 a night are hard to come by, and most are considerably more than that, especially once they hit you with the fees. It’s bizarre because the city itself isn’t a hugely expensive place. At least not compared to up here in NYC. Everyone you meet who moved there from out of town is eager to tell you how much bang they get for their buck, but as a tourist, fuckin yikes.
This also brings up one of the other downsides of Knoxville. It’s pretty conservative, and if you do meet someone who moved there from elsewhere, there’s a solid chance they’re an asshole. Like, they moved from wherever they were specifically to be in one of the most conservative states they could find, which doesn’t bode well. On this trip, we were particularly unfortunate to end up with an Uber driver from Seattle who simply could not be dissuaded from expounding upon the tyranny of “the shot.” Even after I explained we’re “huge leftists” and despite the fact that I was wearing a mask in her car, no matter what topic we tried to shift to, she had some way to bring it back to the evils of the COVID vaccine. It was… exhausting.
We also had a girl on the street attempt to pray with us for an Astros win in Game 6 of the World Series which like, a) hard pass. Fuck the Astros, and b) did not go over well with the table of goths she’d accosted. When Kate told her we don’t believe in her god, she was clearly quite shaken and scooted off in a hurry, like it had never occurred to her such people existed in the real world and she was realizing for the first time that her pastor’s warnings were correct.
That said, there’s clearly a vibrant community of liberals and leftists in town and plenty of warm and welcoming places to go for a good time. In fact, I noticed several women around town wearing pro-Roe shirts and sweatshirts — a fairly ballsy move in a state with trigger laws that essentially outlawed abortion. Wearing pro-abortion apparel in North Jersey is no big ‘cause the vast majority of people probably agree with you. It takes some gumption to roll up to a bar full of folks getting drunk and watching a big football game rocking pro-choice garb. Respect.
Those little caveats aside, though, Knoxville is a delight, and Steve and Ben are well-connected to the scene and know the hoppin’ spots. Or the less hoppin’ ones for when we all notice we’re old and exhausted and just want to sit quietly and sip an old fashioned.
Some highlights:
Merchants of Beer
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ol’ standby, if you will. Great big patio. Full bar. Food truck with INCREDIBLE pulled jackfruit. Listen, it is not always easy to find vegetarian options in the South. We went to one spot in Virginia on the way back with only salad and nachos on the menu without meat, and they were out of lettuce. The food truck here let you substitute any of the meats with jackfruit. I got jackfruit mac and it was a goddamn revelation. Plus, there was so much of it, I ate part, Anna ate part, and there was still plenty left over. They’ve got cornhole and games and whatnot, and a zillion beers. It was a lovely joint to hit up two nights in a row, especially so that Steve could watch the sportsball while the rest of us sat in the corner like high school misfits.
Central Cinema
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ummmm, this place rules. It was started by the folks who created the Knoxville Horror Film Fest, and it’s basically a giant ode to horror culture. Tons of memorabilia, DVDs and even VHS tapes of horror movies, horror soundtracks on vinyl, kitschy little decorations, and an absolutely glorious amount of Jaws related art. We watched Psycho Goreman together, and seeing it on the big screen was next level. Their snack selection is also off the charts. This is what every movie theater should be like.
Rami’s Cafe
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just a cute little diner that was about an eight minute walk from our rental. It was absolutely poppin’ in there with folks decked out in orange for the UT game. We went straight to the counter and sat down where a lovely server took care of us immediately. I had an omelet with potatoes in it, and I swear to you, I will be dreaming about it. Obviously my whole point in writing any of this down is to remember for next time I go, and holy shit. Rami’s, I’ll be back for you and your soft, perfectly seasoned potatoes.
That’s probably enough rambling to myself about Knoxville. Proud of me for remembering to write shit down.

Online RV Rentals
Tumblr media
When you're looking to rent an RV online, you'll likely encounter several options. You can rent a static RV or one that you can move around and return later. Some sites also offer one-way rental options, and others are peer-to-peer. The austin rv rentals providers offer customer support, and even offer 24-hour roadside assistance. These benefits ensure a positive experience when you're traveling. From flat tires to other questions about your rental, RVshare's customer support is always ready to help.
One of the best ways to rent an RV online is by using a peer-to-peer marketplace. RVshare, for example, is the largest marketplace of its kind in the U.S., and offers many benefits and protections for its members. Moreover, you don't have to worry about advertising, as RVshare will ensure your listing is in front of the right audience. Moreover, you can avoid the stress of having to deal with strangers during your road trip because you'll be able to plan your itinerary yourself.
Another way to rent an RV online is through a portal like Outdoorsy, which connects RV owners with renters. With this site, you can easily find the RV you're looking for based on amenities and location. Outdoorsy also offers a wide variety of insurance coverage, so you'll be protected if anything goes wrong. Furthermore, Outdoorsy lets you pay securely online. It also has customer service representatives available 24 hours a day.
You can also use peer-to-peer websites like Outdoorsy to rent your RV. These websites feature all types of RVs and camper vans for rent. You can make arrangements to meet renters at an agreed location or arrange for them to deliver the RV to your vacation destination. Using a peer-to-peer platform like Outdoorsy is a convenient and free way to rent an RV. Make sure to choose a renter carefully. Take time to read their profile.
Another great way to get atlanta rv rentals is to use RVshare. RVshare has a great reputation for offering quality vehicles and a transparent system. Using these services will help you recover your investment in an RV while earning extra cash for road trips. You can also join a rental pool to share your RV with other RV owners. Many of these apps will help you connect with other RV owners and rent your RV to people who need it.
As a side business, RV rentals can be profitable and rewarding. You can earn money while driving your RV and avoid paying for storage fees and mortgage payments. Plus, you can skip winterization and insurance costs. As long as you are careful, you can make a nice profit. However, renting your RV can be a risky proposition, so you must weigh the advantages and disadvantages before getting started.
RVshare is the Airbnb of RV rental companies. The site features a huge community of RV owners and renters. This website allows you to find the perfect RV rental by filtering by price, location, and type. Once you find one that fits your needs, you can move forward with the booking process. In the off-season, base rates start at $48 per night and do not include miles. Renting Boho Camper Vans Phoenix, Arizona is a rental location A 7-van fleet of Ford vans from the late 1990s and early 2000s, each with a distinctively bohemian flair, is owned by Boho Camper Vans. Running water, an outdoor shower, a stove, privacy curtains, bedding, cookware, camping chairs, and a portable cooler are all included in these camper vans. For about $159 per day, you can live the bohemian lifestyle only a short distance from the Phoenix airport. Rent a Lost Camper Van Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City are the rental locations. The focus at Lost Camper is on affordability and comfort, and they have the coziest beds. All of their campervan rentals come equipped with basic camping gear like a table and chairs, bedding, kitchen kits, and unlimited miles in addition to their daily rates. The majority of their vans have sinks and awnings (check the specific model first), and at the very least all have a cooler, dining table, and a double bed inside (some have refrigerators). They currently offer five different types of vans, with prices varying by model, length of rental, and season and starting at $35 per day. As a result, if you're looking for something that won't stand out, Lost Camper is a good choice because it doesn't use any vivid colors or crazy paint jobs. Ford Transit Rentals Trekker Vans Locations for Rent: California (San Francisco and Los Angeles) Unlike some of the well-known camper van rental companies, Trekker Vans takes pride in being a locally owned and operated, bootstrapped company. The owners love being outside, so they are always happy to assist you in organizing your adventure. All of their camper van rentals are Ford Transits furnished with camping chairs, a table, cookware, a stove, a refrigerator, and bedding. If you need more space, they can add on a rooftop tent. The dinette converts into a queen-size bed that sleeps 2-3 people. You can arrange your seating so that it can hold 2 or 4 people, depending on the size of your party. The cost varies depending on the time of year and length of the trip, but in the off-season, you can rent a camper van for about $99 per night for a minimum of three nights. Prices will be roughly double during peak times. This is a great option if you're looking for a San Francisco camper van rental company close to the airport. Campervan rentals from Ondevan Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando, Florida are the rental locations. Another locally owned business, Ondevan Campervan, has offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando, Florida. Because the owners enjoy traveling as much as we do, they chose the Spanish phrase "A dónde van?" as the name because they hope it will encourage others to do the same. The fully equipped Ondevan campervan rentals include a stove, cooler, cookware, linens, curtains, camping chairs, and a table. Ford E-350s and Dodge Promasters are included in the rental fleet. The cost of a daily rental depends on the vehicle and ranges from $59 to 139. Additionally, they have an online road trip map created by other travelers that includes directions to campgrounds and showers. Rentals of Basecamper Vans Location of the Rental: Salt Lake City, UT Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Basecamper Vans is a campervan rental agency. They have a number of vans, including a Dodge Promaster City, GMC Savana, and Chevy Express that can accommodate a rooftop tent and sleep 2-4 people. Depending on how long your trip is, daily rental rates range from $99 to $129 per day. Their entire fleet of vans is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, camp chairs, and cookware. Campervan rentals from Voyager Minneapolis, Austin, Phoenix, Nashville, Portland, and Los Angeles are among the rental locations. BBL Costs, Prep + Recovery
Im booked!!  I talked to a few friends who I know either got this surgery or is getting this done.  I wanted one since forever but I wanted my teeth done first.  The deciding factor came down to my birthday plans.
Originally I was going to do a birthday tour.  First weekend of October in Miami for carnival, 2nd weekend in Atl for Freak Nik, 3rd weekend in Bahamas and finally Nola for the finale.  Well Nola was just hit with a storm so yeah that’s out. Once I totaled up the flights, hotels, food and spending money.. I was like hmm, I can get a fat ass and started this process.  Immediately looked into surgeon and Dr. Pena was my favorite, his bodies come out so mf snatched, he’s located in Columbia.  Columbian surgeons can take out way more fat than American doctors however, the fatality rate is stupid and ultimately the factor that made me choose an American doctor.
The next step was choosing the surgeon for the body I have and the one I want.  I weigh 151 and im 5′6″ I’m considered a “skinny bbl”.  I started researching doctors in Atlanta (so I could recover at home) and Miami (like duh).  I chose to go with Dr. Desouza in Miami with CG Cosmetics for a few reasons.  First, I love the look of his skinny bbl’s on other women with the same body type, weight and height as me.  Secondly, he was having a special for the end of the year (lipo 360, bbl, jplasma for $6500 for the surgeon I wanted) this almost sold me but it was the surgery date!!  Jplasma is skin tightening procedure to help with loose skin, you can only get this with lipo.  When they perform lipo they created canals under your skin to remove the fat.. well those same canals are essential when getting Jplasma.
Ok so I decided on the surgeon, contacted the cosmetic group and had a consultation which is pretty much just front, side and back view pictures.. I think they use this to make sure you don’t need a tummy tuck prior to surgery.  They also asked me questions about previous surgeries and if i’ve ever had anesthesia.  The next step went pretty quickly, we talked about what would be lipo’d (abs, waist, back.. I wanted inner thighs, an additional 2k, but was advised to wait on my pre-op to decide), when I wanted to book and how I'd pay.  My consult was on August 30th.. I bitched up when she attempted to take my payment.  I am a money hoarder and spending that much money made me feel like I was being financially irresponsible.  I called one of my Aunt’s who I felt wouldn’t judge me and also give me sound advise.  We talked about my fears, why I was getting the procedure and of course money.  My Aunt gave me excellent advice, reassured me and is a professional CNA who offered to accompany me so yeah I dare not turn that down, lol.  August 31, 2021, I called my coordinator (the contact between me and my surgeon) and told her I wanted to book, she asked me when I’d be ready and I requested first available which was 9/20/21!! Excited is an understatement.. I'd be 24 days post op on my birthday.  After I calmed down I paid in full for multiple reasons:  had to in order to secure the date, all surgeries book in this year had to be paid in full, it was the only way to get the discount.. My coordinator gave me so much information I couldn’t see straight (I was also high as shit off life thinking about a fat ass and me in the same sentence).. she emailed + texted everything, congratulated me and we hung up.
I get the emails:  “raise you hemoglobin with these vitamins” I purchased vitamin C $2, folic acid $2, iron $3 and floradix $35 - amazon, I take them as directed on the bottle and start eating my ass off (just to give my surgeon more to work with, lol).  Talking to one of my gf’s I realize I have to be cleared for surgery?!?!  What?  I open my email and sure enough I have to have blood work done 15-20 prior to surgery, it was 9/3 and a Friday.. SHIT!! I fly over to an Piedmont Wellstreet urgent care facility as recommended by my friend (she started this process as well so I was crazy grateful for her experience and that she shared it with me).  Urgent care was full but opened the next day, my ass was in that line at 7:32 am, I was the 13th person in line and they opened at 8.  I get to the desk and my appointment is at 10:30 and I'd have to pay the office visit fee to be seen, it was $155.  I came back at my allotted time and was told how much all of my labs would be.. $302.  My labs were to be processed and faxed to my surgeon by 9/9 because Labor Day weekend so.. yeah.
I discuss accommodations with my Aunt and realize it’s cheaper, safer and more beneficial for me to go to a recovery house.  I search high and low baby and most of them were booked.. found one regardless with lymphatic massages included called Flawless Recovery House.  This wasn’t my 1st-6th option but the one with availability on my surgery date so I paid a deposit to hold onto my spot.  Total was $1312 for 5 days with 5 massages, I paid a $200 deposit.  Next, I booked my flight, round trip $116 with Delta.  My surgery date is on a Monday, I have to have my pre-op done on the Saturday prior so I booked a hostel from the 18th-20th on booking.com for $66.  I know I could have gotten an airbnb or hotel room but I wanted this experience.  I want to go to Amsterdam and stay in a hostel so I need to know what to expect.  Also I cannot party, smoke, drink or eat before surgery so fuck it.. a hostel will do, lol.
I smoke big fucking weed and watched someone else’s bbl journey today and realize if I fail the drug test, my surgery will be cancelled and it’ll cost me $1500 to reschedule.  Boy the shit sent me into panic mode like I've never experienced before, only to find out the weed isn’t the issue nicotine is, it slows down your heart rate.  I can smoke weed just not out of a wood or a rillo and nicotine takes 3-4 days to get out of your system so a bitch barely made it.  I just won't be smoking until I get back home lol.  Just to be super informative no alcohol, diabetic meds, cocaine, pcp or anything that will fool with your heart or makes your bleed.  Today is 9/11 and im one week out from my pre-op... my body is a joke cause I haven’t gained a single pound and normally it’s nothing for me to put on weight.  I took my acrylics off, when you’re put to sleep they monitor your oxygen levels with those clamps they put on your fingers and they aren't the most accurate when you have on dark polish or acrylics.  I also cannot wear lashes cause when they go to fill this ass in I'll be laying flat on my face.  I mean my hair didn’t have requirements but I figure since im naked I might as well be bald.. y'all should see me rn, I look very much like a young man but im hype.  I’ll be back later to tell y'all what I pack and purchase prior to my flight.  Imma put the dates at the end of each update.. today is 9/11/21
My surgery group send me list of supplies  that I would need and the cost came to roughly $1100.  Naive me was definitely going to purchase everything on the list from them until I saw Leslie’s (@prettyhaute - on ig) bbl vlog.  I went on amazon and got away with murder.  Below I’ll list what I purchased and the price I paid versus what the surgery center was quoting me.
Faja - I paid $74.69 - Quoted $160.50 || BBL Pillow - $26.99 - Qouted $42.80 || Arnica pills - $8.95 - Quoted $37.45 || Compression socks - $13.99 for 3 - Quoted $10.70 for 1 || Foams - $17.99 for 3 - Quoted $64.20 for 3 || Scar Cream  $$29.82 - Quoted $80.25 || Arnica Gel - $7.92 - Quoted $21.40 ||
There a shit ton of items on the suggested list that I didn't purchase but way more items that wasn’t on the list I still need for instance:
Crocs, benadryll, robe, adult diapers, straws, earplugs, liquid iv, stool softener, antiseptic body wash, avocado float, back board, urinal, pineapple juice, throat calm, 3 moo-moo’s and a massage roller (the crocs are the only thing on this list that cost more than $20).  My flight is at 7:15a tomorrow and im so damn nervous but excited.  I will spend Saturday and Sunday gallivanting around Miami and then body , ody, ody, ody, ody, ody.  I still have to send my entire itinerary to my aunt but I think im all set.  9/17/21
Pre-op was packed but I went on Saturday and was in and out in an hour.  I was charged for a covid $80, 3 post-op massages $150 and a drug test $20.  I went over my clearance paper work with a medical assistant who also took 9 before pics of me.  Keep in mind, your surgery can be cancelled or reschedule if all of you labs aren’t at the surgery center on pre-op day.  I cannot stress how important it is to take your labs with you!!!  Mine were faxed over from urgent care but I was also provided copies which I took with me.  The photos were sent directly to my surgeon to analyze before surgery.  From my knowledge, I was also to be fitted for my faja but that never happened, do NOT leave pre-op without a faja!!! I paid for 3 massages from CG totaling $150 which I regret badly.  I do NOT recommend getting massages from the surgery center.  There are 4-5 different surgeons performing surgeries on any given day and they do at minimum 4 surgeries per day, that’s at least 15-20 different girls with the same surgery and post-op date.  CG had 2 massage therapists to drain 15-20 girls.  I was drained for 9 mins, your drain massages should last at least 45 mins for maximum drainage.  I only used 1 of the 3 massages I paid for and was denied a refund.  That is a huge downside to CG once they have your money good fucking luck getting it back! Ps. Ellie was a royal fucking cunt!!!!!  She told my medical assistant that I didn’t need a faja so I was never fitted for one and woke up out of surgery with a binder on versus a faja like I should have.  I wanted to slap the shit out of her and took the charge on the chin but I wanted my surgery so I refrained.. I was put on a 12 hour fast and contacted an hour after pre-op with my surgery address and time.  My fast started at 7pm the day before surgery and my surgery time wa at 6:30a, there was a $300 for showing up to surgery late.  All I could bring to surgery was compression socks and a faja (that I didn’t have), I was instructed to bathe with dial (the orange one) before surgery to make sure my incisions weren’t infected, no lotion, perfume, deodorant, makeup, nails, lashes, no jewelry/piercing or hair products and no personals ie, purse money, wallet also you will need a companion or surgery will be cancelled.  I’ll upload all my paperwork at the end.   Surgery day arrive at the surgery center at 6:15 am how about the entire fucking staff was late!  Bitch I was outside in Miami alone with compression socks on and a moo moo, LIVID.  No one arrived until 7:10 am, baby I wanted to kill everyone but fuck it, it was go time.  I’m escorted to a room, changed into a paper gown, piss tested, my labs were reviewed again and finally my surgeon comes in!  We were in the exam room alone which was weird cause I was asshole naked but he kept it 1000% professional, he asked me what I wanted and I say “the fattest ass” he looked me dead in my eyes without a single hesitation and said “it’ll heal like a diaper”  LMAO.  I showed him areas that I wanted lipo’d to death and he marked me up, I didn’t aka e picture of my mark ups but shit was rolling by then, he walked out I put my paper gown back on and the anesthesiologist walked in.  I expressed my biggest concerns to him, I didn’t want to die and I didn’t want to wake up during surgery.  He explain why the drug test was so important because certain street drugs will have adverse effect with the anesthesia.  My anesthesiologist walked me up to the surgery room and I hopped on the table, they put massage boots on both of my feet and inserted an iv, the mask was put on my face and my heart rate went to heaven, I wanted to shit myself bro.  The anesthesiologist told me to make a tight fist, I asked what time it was, 8:08am.. I woke up to a nurse helping me into a wheelchair with a binder around my waist and I was scream crying because my entire body ached, I didn't know where I was and the anesthesia is no hoe.  I was escorted to my recovery house’s transportation van and taken to my damn bed.
I chose Flawlesss Recovery House with Ms. Opal.  I paid a $200 deposit before 2 weeks before surgery and the balance the day I left.  I opted for a 5 day stay.  I loved it there bro and couldn’t imagine trying to recover at a hotel or air bnb!  There were nurses there 24-7, I was roomed with one other girl but the house had a total of 4 bedrooms, one of which no one occupied and the door was always shut but my room was the only room with 2 beds, the others had 3 beds.  I had a call button, it was love, the nurses came expeditiously when I rang it.  They made 3 home cooked meals per day and I don’t eat meat, they accommodated me with no hesitation.  I loved it man.  So couple hours after surgery I attempted to use the bathroom on my own and blacked out, the anesthesia is really fucking strong and took an entire day to wear off (for me), the nurses helped me pee in a cup until then.  Post op day 9/21/21, I went in to make sure I looked good, got a faja finally and received that lousy as drain.  Back to the recovery house I was able to walk finally w/o passing out and in went my foams, I also could pee by myself with the use of a urinal.  I was constipated for 2 days, first bowel movement was on post op day 2. I paid for an independent massage therapist named Tatiana, she used a ultrasound machine to massage me so I cancelled her.  When I took my faja off for my massage it was washed and dried by the time I was done, I took a shower and put my faja on with my foams.  I cancelled Tatiana because don’t let nobody use no machine on you until you are at least 2 weeks post op, hand massages only.  All the girls were getting massaged by the literal best massage therapist (in my opinion) her name is Brittany, I could cry she was EVERYTHING, I was tender but she put the painful massage theory to bed!  She taught me how to drain myself and how to open my incisions without the q-tip looking thing.  In 45 mins she drained 5 of those doggy pad things worth of fluid off of me.  I received 4 massages in 5 days.  I left on Saturday 9/25/2021 on Sunday, back in Atlanta, I received my 5th massage and that when I was told I have not one but 2 seromas.  I swear on everything I love it was because everyone wakes up from surgery with a faja on but not me (Fuck you Ellie, lil bitch) I had on a binder (its what they use for tummy tucks).  The lady who did my 1st massage in Atlanta was Bri, not gone post her ig cause she did a damn good massage but when I asked her to syringe drain me the good sis stuck this long ass needle in my seroma but could get the fluid out, cancelled her too (the massage was good asf tho but nah).  Tired and tried I bit the bullet and booked a packed with Dream Body ($455 for 5 massage, I think, don’t quote me look it up on there site and follow them on ig)  because they are the biggest name in Atlanta, Jayda Wayda goes to them.  The  most painful massage yet, yes Michelle lil ass is so strong but she will get the fluid up off you.  She made me tear up bad and no matter how much I screamed or even tried to push her off of me she understood the assignment, Michelle helped me get back into my faja after my massage and told me my faja was too big and to have it altered.  She recommended a lady on ig @siri2sir but to know me is to know I altered my shit myself.  Allow me to tell y'all, I look good asf!!!!!!! 10/4/2021

Music Midtown 2021 as told by a concert virgin
The year is 2021. A 22-year-old musician has never attended a concert outside of those of friends in mediocre college dive bars. Her concert-dwelling best friend stitches together an itinerary and an overpriced Airbnb. Several $20 beers and a ruined pair of white sneakers later, our author has some thoughts.
Music Midtown in Atlanta had the perfect mix of artists ranging from mainstream, indie, and nostalgic (Dashboard Confessional anyone?). I was especially impressed by the newer artists and how they still managed to move the crowds how they did. Tate McRae mentioned during her set that the last show she did was for only 150 people, and there were well over a thousand this time. For my first “real” concert experience, it did not disappoint. I was especially pleased that the venue enforced vaccination requirements, as I spent a lot of time pressed against strangers to get to a decent viewing spot in the crowds.
I was very satisfied with everyone I saw, but here are some awards for my favorite acts of this weekend:
Best Overall Set: girl in red
Pre-sunset sets have an obvious visual disadvantage, but Marie had stunning background graphics, performed exceptionally well, and even told us a funny story about her and Taylor Swift. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of the stage. Something I also love is how much she moves on stage. Jumping back and forth while playing guitar and singing leaves her out of breath for her banter between songs, but she’s putting on a hell of a show and you can tell she loves it.
Best Fans: Megan Thee Stallion and Machine Gun Kelly
While I couldn’t take my eyes off girl in red, I could not take my eyes off the other fans in Megan Thee Stallion’s crowd. It is no longer Hot Girl Summer, but it is now a Hot Girl Millennium. There was every type of person in that crowd, everyone knew every word and the dance moves to go with it. I’m only tying her with Machine Gun Kelly because his crowd chanted “Megan Fox” during any possible moment. I’m sure you understand.
Hidden Gem: Black Pumas
As I stuffed a plate of chicken tenders in my face while waiting for Miley Cyrus, we sat in a random spot between stages. For the first time all day, me and my two friends sat in almost silence and let this incredible groove fill the air. While I sat in that field, barbecue sauce on my fingers, I used the song finder on Snapchat and we promptly added “Colors” to our Spotify rotation.
Stay tuned next week for a deep-dive into Arctic Monkeys' most polarizing album.
Much love, Rachel

New Release Review: The Rental
Tumblr media
Much like his eldest brother James Franco, Dave Franco is proving to be something of a Renaissance man. After standout roles in films spanning from comedy (21 Jump Street, Neighbors) to drama (The Disaster Artist, If Beale Street Could Talk) to thriller (Now You See Me, Nerve), Franco has turned to writing and directing. He makes his feature debut on The Rental, a horror-thriller film that he co-wrote with Joe Swanberg (Easy, Drinking Buddies).
In the film, startup business partners Charlie (Dan Stevens, The Guest) and Mina (Sheila Vand, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) celebrate the closing of their seed funding with a weekend away. They’re joined by Charlie's dutiful wife, Michelle (Alison Brie, GLOW; Franco's wife), and Mina's boyfriend with a troubled past, Josh (Jeremy Allen White, Shameless), who also happens to be Charlie's younger brother.
Tumblr media
Through an Airbnb-style service, the group rents a luxurious home secluded in coastal Oregon, where they're greeted by the peculiar, if not outright bigoted, renter, Taylor (Toby Huss, Halloween). Microaggressions are experienced, drugs are consumed, suspicions arise, and tension escalates all before the horror of being watched is introduced. Franco maintains an eerie atmosphere throughout, savoring the buildup with commendable restraint.
The sign of a good horror film is if it would remain fulfilling with the genre aspects were removed. The Rental passes that test with ease, utilizing a compelling, albeit not entirely original, character drama as its backbone. One might expect Stevens and Brie, as the “bigger” names in the cast, to carry the picture, but it's Vand and White who really sink their teeth into their meaty roles.
Tumblr media
The Rental's slow-burn approach should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with Swanberg's mumblecore mastery, but its pacing over the course of the 88-minute runtime is methodical. The film brings to mind the likes of You're Next (which incidentally co-stars Swanberg), The Strangers, and Vacancy, but its arthouse-style intimacy would not feel out of place under the A24 banner.
In addition to excelling at the percolation of suspense, Franco pulls off a number of creepy set pieces and, once the third act rolls around, well-executed jolts. Cinematographer Christian Sprenger (Atlanta, GLOW) captures it with voyeuristic delight, while Danny Bensi & Saunder Jurriaans (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Ozark) provide a subtle but effective score.
Tumblr media
The Rental may not break any new ground, but it assuredly shows promise for Franco's career behind the camera. Rather than coasting on his name and autopiloting his way through a broad vanity project, he challenged himself with a genre picture on a limited budget. The experiment paid off, as he successfully crafted an satisfying, atmospheric horror film.
The Rental will be released in select theaters and on VOD on July 24 via IFC Films.

Tumblr media
