idk why excerpts of pliny the elder aren't in more intro/intermediate latin curriculums, i just saw him expound on the degeneracy of hot drinks because, and i quote, "it must be noted that no other animal seeks out hot drinks, and thus that they are not natural"

do you have any thoughts on the story of abraham and isaac? my parents talk about it and praise abraham for being willing to kill his son which..... scares me to say the least, and i'd love to hear your perspective as someone who seems more well-adjusted
Where I am now, it disgusts me more than anything. The interpretation of "I'm willing to sacrifice your life if I was told to" feels like the step before "I put you into this world and I can take you out of it." It's entitlement to a child, who is an independent individual, just because they are dependent on you for survival. I prefer the interpretation of understanding the actions you're taking and the reasons why (like how there's multiple religions that don't eat pork because it was so unsafe to eat at the time), especially if it's at someone else's expense.
Where I was in the thick of it all, it gave me morbid comfort that scares me now. I had fantasies of being a martyr for the church and the idea of being the next Isaac was just so appealing. Being a hand-selected sacrifice chosen by the Good Lord Himself? Sign me the fuck up, babey!
I think if I admitted that to my family, they'd be horrified.
It's another one of those stories or beliefs where I think the majority of christians just regurgitate what they've heard. It's a point of pride and devotion, but there's no personal reflection or cross-cultural awareness of it. Lean not unto your own understanding and whatnot. It's the potential that scares me the most, like the Quiverfull movement with the Duggars or Turpins. I'm sure there's stories now, but I can't remember them off the top of my head
(Also I will be telling my therapist someone on Tumblr called me "more well-adjusted" thank you anon)

while i totally believe cannibalism in nbc hannibal is a metaphor for love i also believe it's a metaphor for transition (not intentionally written that way but it just happens--it could also be a metaphor for coming out as gay)
bc think about it
will has this side to him he has to suppress
he then goes through stages of exploration, self-acceptance, and embracing who he is
this involves killing as an act of transition towards his true self (similar to how we have "deadnames", some people may even view transition as a sort of "killing" their pre-transition self so their true gender self can be born)
he is literally scared of how good it feels, which is very trans--being terrified of what it means to let that shell crack, fearing you are a monster for enjoying these things (which, the "monster as metaphor for queerness and social outcastedness" is a classic horror trope)
not to mention rituals, consuming/growing/literally having new substances inside the body that you did not experience before (human flesh as hrt), and engaging in acts that the world finds heinous but nourishes the body
his cannibalism is him becoming god-like ("Killing must feel good to God, too. He does it all the time") and we all know trans ppl are gods and goddesses and godexxes of the mortal realm
rly the list goes on
but basically season 1 will graham is eggy as fuck and season 3 is him finally becoming his full self and accepting love for who he is and thats so sexy and cool and transgender of him

“You’re only defending John Lennon because you like his music” it’s almost like someone’s art gives you a direct insight into their emotional life and relating to it will make you care about and/or understand a person better

“You have to go to work to make money.” But what if instead I stayed home and imagined Bob’s Burgers characters kissing? Hm? What about that?

what got me so insanely angsty about the relationship between ludger and casey is that it's not even subtext. it's literally in the text that are their own words.
they canonically enjoy the other person's company.
they canonically believe the other person is one of a very few who could understand them.
they canonically understand each other, from personalities and capabilities to behaviors and thoughts.
ludger canonically regrets ruining their relationship.
casey canonically wishes to mend their relationship.
they canonically want(ed) this relationship.

do u think twitter knows the reason why the alt-right is so appealing especially to online young boys is because their moral purity olympics is socially isolating and encourages people to hate themselves for actions they can never take back instead of offering a communal place of support to learn how to do better in the future. like do they realize most young people who are on places like pol arent evil monsters but are instead lonely and found only hostility from the online left. this shit is so infuriating
