I’m rewatching Falcon & The Winter Soldier, and I realized that the reason why Sam first rejected the shield and said it belonged to Steve is because

Steve represented the all-American white boy. Blond hair, blue eyes, but he also represented the “American dream”: A land of freedom and opportunities. Steve was naive.

Like Sam knew how lucky he (Sam) was to be an Avenger because, historically, the American dream was only available to white conformists and immigrants who assimilated to white heteronormative society. And, unlike, Rhodey, Sam didn’t get his powers cause he had rich friends (sorry, Rhodes). Sam was just some random guy in the military, and he doesn’t seem to approve of all the military’s actions.

Steve wasn’t a racist or a homophobe or anything. But he represented an ideology that was unattainable to queer and BIPOC people for a very long time. And kinda still is. And I’m starting to wonder if he ever really understood that. Like Steve was an optimist — Sam Wilson was a realist.

OK well, if I have to pick just one and I have arbitrarily decided that I do, I will pick the fic that literally changed my life and that I think about a nonzero amount of times per week even when I haven't reread it recently (and I reread it on occasion, too).

That fic is Known Associates by thingswithwings. Queer history, queer sorrow, and above all, queer community and queer joy. It has given me a better understanding of my history, my hometown, and my own dang self.

Random idea for an Avengers fic. Would be set in a post-Avengers AU and an enemy-to-lovers story where Clint falls in love Loki, who learned all of Clint’s deepest secrets while he was being mind controlled by Loki. They bond over the shared trauma of the experience as Clint learns that Loki was also being controlled by outside forces.

you get four for one - the fic series for which I created my AO3 account: Perspective by Silverlace_Vine, which started as a Bruce Banner/Tony Stark fic wherein they use D/s to get around Bruce's whole "shouldn't raise your heart rate" thing, and then expanded into a Stark Spangled Banner (Bruce/Tony/Steve OT3) fic series. I haven't actually read the fourth fic (Perseverence) because it only started being published LAST YEAR, but heads up that the third fic in the series, Predilection, has some sexual violence in it and the fourth fic deals largely with the characters dealing with the aftermath of that.
