I was always crushing on the wrong boys I was always yelling when I should’ve been sitting down Memories of cigarettes and polaroids Kiss you in the kitchen of a house that burned down
— “All I Wanted”
Love is a strong word, Claire thinks, as her body melts into the warmth of Jack McCoy’s hands against her hips. She shivers when his lips graze the skin beneath her ear. Yes, love is a strong word.
But they could learn to, she thinks.
One day.

I'm sure you're right but why do you dislike the Carol Corps when you're such a Carol Danvers fan???
First, never assume anyone on the Internet you don't know is a dog is right.
In case this wasn't clear I consider myself foremost a Marvel's Marvel Family fan. Anyone who has held one of the Marvel Family titles (Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Protector of the Universe, Quasar, etc.) and their supporting cast is part of it. I think it should be more often conceptualized as such, the way the DC Marvel Family (or the Batfamily, the Spider-Family, etc.) is, with one ongoing per character regularly crossing over, maybe a common editorial, etc.
The Monica fandom is fairly friendly with the Vells fandom/general cosmic Marvel fandom, the Kamala fandom, etc. united under the stance of wanting more exposure for their characters, while the "Carol Corps" (ie those who are KSD stans first and foremost) are extremely hostile to any Marvel Family content outside what's in the footprints of Kelly Sue DeConnick (and you know how I feel about her characterization).
This can have an undercurrent of queerphobia like the attempts at making cosmic Marvel "more mainstream" (ie straight) certainly, but what is most overt is just how insanely racist they are, which I'm certainly not the first to notice. (I mean, Monica fans were already fighting KSD on this very site over this that she had to write (as the sixth issue of her run) a story acknowledging Monica (which she never did for Phyla btw) and having her team up with Carol, but with Carol absorbing Monica for a power-up, which might have been a way to "get at" the Monica fans who were bothering her under the pretense of appeasing them.)
However, it became an increasingly major problem after the movie was released (with its infamously racist treatment of the Rambeau family, and arguably of Nick Fury), bringing a lot of attention to the characters. It has resurfaced as the "Carol Corps" lash out at any news suggesting that Monica or Kamala might get more exposure (as the director and writer of the sequel is a black Monica fan), like when the name "The Marvels" was revealed, when SLJ called Monica the Black Captain Marvel, even with something as anodyne as the account for movie news updates posting a comic-book panel of Monica.

https://twitter.com/search?q=%22In%20Marvel%20mythology%2C%20Captain%20Marvel%20is%20the%20legacy%20of%20Mar-Vell%22%20OR%20%22was%20forcibly%20named%20CM%22%20OR%20youtu.be%2Fl2Y8VXoCpcE&f=live
This behavior has gone widespread with functionally no overt pushback from editors and writers. I mentioned that KSD issue with bizarrely racist subtext surrounding Monica borne out of a fight with Monica fans on here (which may not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and I don't think KSD is a racist, at least against black people, but it represent the earliest spat – the general lesbophobia surrounding Phyla-Vell, Tracy Burke, and Avril Kincaid under KSD and Stohl is quite more concerning).
This has led modern cosmic Marvel writers to ignore Carol's existence as much as editorial will let them to (LoCM makes her basically unwrittable in a cosmic Marvel context anyway, which was the point), while Monica Rambeau writers have made their distaste for the racist treatment of the character, and in particular for KSD's run and the MCU, quite clear, indirectly in the comics themselves through not always subtle jabs, more directly outside of them (1, 2).
That situation will continue as long as the "Carol Corps" is the way it is and there's no real effort to push back against it and put all the Marvel Family characters on an equal footing.

365 Marvel Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year…
November 26th - Quasar
Army veteran Wendell Vaughn attended the academy to become an agent of the intelligence agency SHIELD.  He graduated with full honors yet his instructors felt he lacked the decisive ‘killer instinct’ needed to be field agent.  As such, Vaughn was assigned guard duty at the Stark International project that was studying the cosmic weapon known as the Quantum Bands.
These Quantum Bands were created by the entity known as Eon, meant to be used by mighty warriors who would act as Protectors of the Universe.  Such protectors were tasked with safeguarding the stars against the threats that could extinguish life and render the universe barren.  A pair of said bands had once been awarded to Captain Mar-Vell but had since fallen into the hands of SHIELD who sought to use them for their own purposes.
A number of SHIELD agents acted as test pilots attempting to wield the power of these Quantum Bands.  These were fearless and intrepid volunteers who felt confident they could utilize the bands so to become a super powered operative.  And yet in each case, the power proved overwhelming and the test pilots were disintegrated into ash.
The facility was attacked by the science terrorist organization AIM who sought to use the bands for their own nefarious goals.  The guards were overrun and AIM was about to obtain the bands.  Vaughn was among the last guards standing and, out of desperation, he put on the Quantum Bands.  Much to his surprise, the bands did not overwhelm him and he was able to use their power to create energy constructs so to defeated the AIM attackers.  It turned out that it was Vaughn’s thoughtful tentativeness, his lack of a ‘killer instinct,’ that enabled him to use the bands without becoming corrupted.
Vaughn went on to use the bands to become a superhero, initially calling himself ‘Marvel Boy’ before ultimately settling on the alias of ‘Quasar.’  He worked alongside SHIELD for a time, but felt a calling that drew him into outer space.  The bands allowed Quasar to safely traverse space at extremely high speeds and his venture brought him before Eon.  The entity explained the origins of the Quantum Bands and charged him with taking Mar-Vell’s place as the new Protector of The Universe.  Although apprehensive, Vaughn accepted the task and was sent to battle the agent of Oblivion known as Deathurge.   Quasar was triumphant following a hard-fought battle.
Quasar would go on to have many subsequent adventures, on his own and as a member of The Avengers and later the Guardians of The Galaxy.  He perished in combat and was resurrected; lost the Quantum Bands and reclaimed them.  More recently, Vaughn has gone into semi-retirement, acting as a guide and mentor to Avril Kincaid who currently wields the bands as the new Quasar.
The hero first appeared in the pages of Captain America Vol. 1 #217 (1978).

Vote for the #1 Queer Icon™ in Marvel Comics!
In order for a character to qualify:
They must be canonically out as LGBT+ in Earth-616 canon
They must have at least 10 existing appearances to date OR be featured in an ongoing series (no randos)
“Word of god” does not count; if a writer says “I see this character as queer” but this does not actually make it into comics (yet), then they do not qualify
Characters with questionable canon queerness must first pass a preliminary poll to decide if they will be included or not
Preliminary Polls:
Charlie Cluster-7
Daimon Hellstrom
Greer Nelson
Kitty Pryde
Peter Quill
Satana Hellstrom
Preliminary polls will have context as to why they may or may not be canonically queer. Voters can then decide if the character will be included in the tournament.

Aaron Fischer
Aikku Jokinen
Akihiro
Alani Ryan

Ideal Guardians team? When they're not going the MCU route, those teams tend to get B I G. I'd say I love almost everyone from the original run (I wish I could like Bug more and I know this could be handled better by different writers, but the way he interacts with women is too often "creepy" instead of "funny"), I absolutely love the additions Ewing made to team and, hell, I wouldn't mind seeing Beta Ray Bill more often, but that's A LOT of people. Sooooo what would fulfill your heart's desires without being impossible to write?
Also! I miss Jack :(
Oh, I do have an answer for this! I'd love to see an all female GOTG team, even for just a mini series, 'cause barring Gamora, it's mostly a male led team and has been for a while.
So the ideal line up would be:
Gamora
Angela
Victoria of Spartax
Jazzinda
Phyla Vell
Moondragon
Avril Kincaid
And everyone there is picked for specific reasons... I'd like to see the return of Gamora & Heather's friendship, since it's been cast to the side for so long, and I want to see Angela & Gamora interact after AOTG/Infinity Wars.
Victoria & Jazz would act as new blood, yeah, but also I think you can do some interesting stories re: daddy issues with them & it can feel a whole lot fresher instead of "Gamora hates Thanos!" yet again. Especially since when we last saw Victoria thinking about her father, it was on confusing mixed terms.
I want Phyla & Avril to interact and explore the Quasar legacy. Like... they're both lesbian Quasars they deserve to hang out a little more.
If I was gonna go for a mixed team, I'd go for:
Gamora
Richard Rider
Peter Quill
Phyla Vell
Drax
And just have it be more Annihilation-esque in tone. While Heather was around during that era, she was away on a ship with Thanos for the most part; those five were the ones on the frontlines & I'd like to see a writer explore what kind of bond that formed between them, testing its limits, etc.
The only potential addition I'd make to any of these teams is having a one-off issue where they run into Jack Flag because I uh. I think they all accidentally abandoned him in space after Thanos Imperative & I find that so fucking funny.

It’s always been up to you It’s turnin’ around, it’s up to me I’m gonna do what I have to do Just don’t Gimme a little time Leave me alone a little while Maybe it’s not too late
— “Tomorrow”
“Can we get that drink now?”
“Not in the mood.”
“Claire—”
“I’m serious, Jack.” Claire grabs her coat off the back of her chair, slipping it on and tucking her hands into her pockets. Her fingers curl around an extra set of keys, the spare set to her apartment Claire was minutes away from handing over to the man she thought she was ready to let into her life.
Not anymore.
“Claire, listen to me. Everything’s going to be fine—”
“Please, don’t.” Claire sighs, shaking her head. “I just need to be alone.”
Jack hesitates, but soon relents, holding the door to his office open for Claire to leave. “Okay. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
Right, Claire thinks. Tomorrow.
Will anything have changed?
