"Don't mess my hair up, dum-dum."
"I don't think I can do any worse than you did."
I wanted a tender moment between Azula and Zuko where he cuts her hair. Since touching hair is important, no one else can do it. She'll only let her stupid brother fix her bangs. It sets off the beginning of her healing.

Unpopular opinion: Azula shouldn’t have to try to “repair” her relationships with Zuko or Iroh or Ursa in a hypothetical redemption arc or healing arc or whatever you want to call it.
The root of all of Azula’s trauma can be fundamentally traced back to her upbringing in the Fire Nation - the cultural norms she was socialised into and the people she was surrounded by. If that is the case, isn’t the most logical solution then to just simply escape? There are so many cases in which people that have had similar experiences to Azula, both in fiction and in real life, have left everything and everyone they ever knew behind… and guess what? They’re oftentimes so much better off because of it. Why? Because they’re not surrounded by that pain and suffering in their lives 24/7. They’re allowed to live. They’re allowed to breathe.
For their negligence as her caretakers, Iroh and Ursa should be the ones extending an olive branch to Azula. Whether she accepts this or not is entirely up to her. And if that answer happens to be ‘no’, then everyone should simply move on and learn to live independently of one another. As for Zuko, he is under no obligation to help her. Neither is Azula under any obligation to receive said ‘help’ in whatever form it might come in. Both him and Azula were both abused children and both are heavily traumatised as a result. And to be honest, Zuko desperately needs to embark on his own journey of self-healing as well.
Let Azula be her own person with her own agency Why should Azula’s actions be defined by her abusive family? Why should she have to accomodate her feelings and compromise her unique individuality for a family who were so wrapped up in their preconceptions and prejudices about her that they refused to afford her the love and care she so desperately needed? In my opinion, any type of redemption/healing arc for Azula that tries to take this route is inevitably going to reproduce the conditions which facilitated her abuse in the first place. Who would want that for a 14 year old child?

would it be rude of me to say i don’t believe the atla writing team is half as smart as atla tumblr and i don’t trust them to write azula’s redemption to the quality of anything anyone here could come with?

not to be so not normal about everything but azula and zuko’s relationship and thinking about how it would be after the show is SO INTERESTING. like when they were growing up azula was the “one in charge” and not zuko even though zuko was two years older? (idk what to call that, ppl w siblings ykwim) (see: azula calls him “little zuzu”, azula bullies HIM in a flashback to them at like 5 or 6, etc). i can’t even fathom my (3 not 2) years younger sister being the one in charge, she feels like a baby (loving) to me and always has.
so like. i feel like that sort of speaks to azula’s maturity? which sounds stupid but like. at 14 she was (for at least a few minutes each) the leader of 2/3 of the world (probably much more bc the earth kingdom is huge). while zuko was out there trying to not fail at customer service job. (hard)
and then she breaks down. now i’ve had psychotic episodes before and one of them i was azula’s age but my sister and I’s way of dealing with it was to just. ignore it. not say anything. and then occasionally effy-tony them (idk how else to describe that lol). however. azula tried to Kill Him and then he usurped her throne. that feels hard to ignore.
which really means 1 of 3 things.
1. azula and zuko work their shit out
2. azula continues to be an ass like in the comics (though with what happened to her i. don’t blame her)
3. (my favorite) THEY IGNORE IT.
azula and zuko were clearly raised in a don’t-air-your-dirty-laundry house. they both have the emotional intelligence of rocks and don’t know how to talk to other people like a human being. neither of them would know how to start the “i just went a little nuts”/“i just watched you go a little nuts” conversation. so i think they just don’t say anything.
eventually azula stops trying to kill him (which i don’t think would really take that long; what triggered her episode was being emotionally alone and i think if her friends came back and zuko stayed with her she’d snap back pretty quickly). very gradually their conversations go from “i see you got pretty far this escape attempt. don’t do that again.” to “can i hide in here the councilmen won’t leave me alone and my head hurts” to “and there were CANDLES and ROSE PETALS and i just asked him about how his MOM DIED im so stupid how did i not realize until now”.
i really like the idea of azula staying on house arrest in the palace, at first in her chambers and then on the grounds with a guard, and at first it’s because she’s dangerous but after a while she starts to like it. she doesn’t have all those responsibilities anymore. she doesn’t have to be perfect. nothing bad will happen to her if she isn’t because she already did what she thought of as the worst possible thing to do (losing her fire lord title). and she survived. and she’s not under ozai’s thumb anymore. and it feels better.
basically i like the idea of azula becoming the kid she never got to be. an actual little sister. zuko knows she sneaks out to go to parties in caldera. he doesn’t tell anyone. azula makes a habit of threatening councilmen when zuko needs a break because if HE did it would send a bad message but if SHE does. well that’s just the fire lord’s crazy sister.
idk i just like the idea of them finally being able to be actual siblings to each other. getting into shenanigans. causing trouble. learning how to unlearn things together. changing the world. having fun.

HELPPPPPP İ CAN'T WRİTE AZULA İT'S JUST SO HARD
Like this is a scene i wrote for a oneshot but argh it's just so hard to write them incharacter and i always messed up the dialogues
Please please please give me some advices because I'm literally losing my mind
Please just check it and tell me my characterization and grammer mistakes, English is not my native tongue and I'm not really good at it as you can see
Btw she speaks with Katara and i might added some nonsense stuff, idk i just felt both plot and writing is horrible
"Making a deal with you?"
Azula shakes her head slowly as an response.
"Why would we do that? This is no different than making a deal with the devil."
Azula pauses.
Devil.
This is something she's heard for the first time.
She heard that she was a monster before, but a demon?
This is something new.
"Ouch. Now this hurts. Even my heart shattered into pieces."
"What else can I think of someone who chase us nonstop to kill?"
"I really just want to talk. And I'm here with all my good intentions. The best option you have is to listen to me.
Azula slightly waves her hand in the air, then she speaks one last time.
"Or I'll make sure them know this situation happens because of the Avatar. İt's all your choice."
The waterbender pauses for a while to consider her options, knowing if she doesn't make a quick decision, the entire team will be captured because of her. Without the bending and weakened by the poison, she only becomes a burden to her team. She sighs deeply before speaking in an exasperated tone, it must make her feel helpless to think about the possibility of won't be able to waterbend again.
Sooooo what do you think, which parts should i fix?
And I'm sorry if it has unnecessary details but I'm kinda use a fancy style in my own language so yeah
Anyways thank you so much for spending time<33

The comics completely ruined Azula's character.
Her meltdown was a great addiction that helped us look very deeply into her character but the way they went on after it sucked.
Azula is only 15/16 I'm the comics and the creators implied that she cannot possibly be healed. They placed her in a institution for only ONE YEAR and expected that years of trauma and suppressing her emotions would have been gone. The "good" guys were angry at Azula for lashing out and didn't even care to check up on the mentally ill teen girl they temporarily forced out of her treatment.
Azula was expected to be fully functional after spending a whole year not being able to move because of a straightjacket and literal chains and was portraited as problematic and irredeemable because the one year of abusive treatment wasn't enough to heal her. Also, by the conversation Zuko and Azula had in the institution it's pretty obvious that Zuko hadn't visited her or kept up with her medical reports but somehow, he was still the good guy. So technically the comics said that it's okay to abandon your sick relatives in an abusive place and then you have the right to be angry at then for not healing I'm the way and speed you'd like.
Also, after Azula escaped in the end of The Search no one said a word about helping her healing process after they catch her, so apparently, according to the comics, you have only one shot at healing and if you fuck it up then nobody will ever give a shit about your mental health problems and no one will even try to get you to a place that will help you heal again.
The worse part is that, during Smoke and Shadow, the creators tried too hard to make Azula get worse and worse after her breakdown even if she was given some kind of "mental help" after it, basically saying that after you snap there's absolutely no turning back and it'll only get worse from now on and you're unfixable (even if you're a teenager and have a whole life infront of you to grow up and change and heal and develop and learn).
What the show did with Azula in the finale of Book 3 was absolutely magnificent and it gave us an inside look on parts of Azula we had hardly seen or didn't even know existed. What the comics did with Azula was ableism.

Maybe I will touch the deeper subject, but what is your opinion about the whole fandom point of „Azula’s Redemption” view? Does she need it or not?
Beside I wish you to have a lot of inspiration qty 😊
Hey! This is an interesting questions and I can definitely see both sides!
The angle I come at it from is that she deserves to know what real love is like so I feel like it should boil down to what you think about her family relationships and in particular about Ursa
I absolutely hate that Ursa would choose to forget her children, so if it's based on canon, I would say that Azula should find 'redemption'/'peace' outside of the Fire Nation, going for some lovely found family vibes lol She needs to learn that she has value outside of her talent and what unconditional love is and this doesn't necessarily need to come from anyone in the Gaang or Mai/Ty Lee (in fact, in the canon universe I'm not sure that I would believe it if it did!)
If we're talking about the universe that I have constructed in my mind where Ursa was banished to Hira'a and thinks that staying there would protect Zuko and Azula, I would love to see her redeemed within that context!
Ultimately, I think that she is far too interesting a character to remain as the unquestioningly evil type; I also don't think that she would spend her days trying to steal the throne from Zuko. I feel like she would know that it would be difficult to get the loyalty that her father had under the regime that Zuko has set up? Plus, I wouldn't find it as interesting if her motivations never changed from when she was 14 lol
As she adapts to the way that the world is after Ozai's defeat, I think that she would learn to heal and let go of some of what happened in the past, which is something I would love to see!
So I guess my answer is that I would like to see her redeemed but not necessarily in the sense that she would have to join and help the Gaang if that makes sense?

Azula: You’re leaving with Zuzu to join the Avatar?!
Ty Lee: Not just him. You’re coming to.
Azula: How exactly do you plan to do that?
[ Zuko dragging a chi blocked Azula onto the war balloon. ]
Azula: Unhand me! This is ridiculous!!
Zuko: I told you to put tape on her mouth!
Mai: And I told you she bit me!

(Sometime after “The Ancient World”.)
(Azula and Ty Lee are sleeping in a bed together. Azula start rapidly tossing, turning, and muttering, clearly having a bad dream. Ty Lee opens her eyes, picking up some of Azula’s words.)
Ty Lee: “Bad dream ?”
(Azula shakes awake, breathing rapidly. She blinks several times, brushing her eyes and making sure they aren't watery)
Azula: “Oh! Uh, yeah...It's okay, we don't have to worry about it.”
Ty Lee: “How about talking about it ?”
Azula (looks away and shake her head): “What's the point ? You already know what it's about.”
Ty Lee: “...”
(Ty Lee wraps her arms around Azula, who momentarily tenses and then relaxes into her hug)
Azula: “...This ?” (rests her head on Ty Lee's shoulder with a smile, reciprocating the hug) “This is better.”
(About three minutes later...)
(Ty Lee, still maintain her hug in an iron grip, is now rocking Azula back and forth.)
(Azula has a more uncertain expression on her face. Ty Lee has not only singing for the past few minutes, but seems otherwise oblivious to the world around her.)
Ty Lee: (singing) “Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer/Count the headlights on the highwaaaay...”
Azula: “O-Okay, Ty Lee, I think that's enough-”
Ty Lee: (singing at a more high pitch frequency) "Lay me down on sheets of linen/You had a busy day toda-a-ay..."
