Bat Timeline vs Bat Publication Timeline
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kept my receipts and citations here. Also, I used cover dates.
Neat things I noticed:
Nothing much happened in Gotham until Robin arrived both in continuity and in print history. Sorry but your lone wolf Batman doesn't exist :P
Dick permanently becomes Batman at the same age Bruce was when he became Batman; 25. Kinda poetic if you ask me.
Babs was Oracle longer than she was Batgirl in both continuity and publication history!!
Completely forgot that Dinah was literally her own mother once upon a time. Weird stuff.
There's not enough Jason!Robin stories to fit the 3 years some fans claim he was Robin for. Also the 3 years idea doesn't work if you track Dick's age. My guess is he was originally younger than 15 when he died but DC aged him up so he could be an adult when he returned as Red Hood.
It's pretty clear that Helena's integration into the group began the expansion of this complicated "family unit". She set the precedent for those noirish vigilante work relations.
Tim has to be a vampire if he's meant to be 17 three whole very explicit in-continuity years after he had his 16th birthday.
Stephanie has basically been in this gig as long as Tim! And almost as long as Helena too. Proper seasoned ass-kicker who Damian should look to for pointers.
Also remembered that Cassandra's Batgirl run is the best thing to come out of Gotham in the early 2000s.
I dunno I think the One Year Later timeskip was just unnecessary.
Kate and Renee are almost as new to the vigilante gig as Damian!
Bat-adjacent Rose Wilson was said to be 14 during her first appearance around Year 15 so she's the same age Tim.
Not Bat related but Lian Harper's age works with my timeline so yay! Born early Year 14, she's 5 during Cry for Justice in Year 19.
I have a theory, based off of Batman #416, that Dick graduated high school at 17. He says he was Bruce's partner for 6 years and that after he was fired; he left college after the 1st semester, then moved around the country, had his own adventures, and "eventually" ended up with the Titans. Also, he was 21 during the Titans' 3rd anniversary (New Titans v2 #71) and 19 when he became Nightwing (Tales of the Titans #44) so the Titans (re-)formed when he was 18. This means he probably only turned 18 in the academic year he began college (or has a summer birthday). So he was Bruce's partner from ages 11-17, did his own thing for a while as he did in the 70s, eventually joined the Titans at 18, and became Nightwing at 19. Jason comes into the picture soon after Dick retires the Robin identity.

I really hate a lot of stuff that happened in DC canon like Bruce slitting Jason's throat, Jason nearly killing Tim during battle for the cowl, and Damian trying to kill Tim when he was first introduced.
And as a fanfic writer it can be really hard to navigate these situations as you don't want your characters to be OOC, but you also can't imagine these scenes happening.
And then I realised that I can just create an AU where none of that happened and no one can stop me.
Look at me canon, I'm the writer now.
Edit: removed and corrected a few mistakes.

If I see another “Batman thinks he saved his kids, but really he destroyed them” or any iteration of him purposefully making the robins and co child soldiers I’m going to lose my mind.
LISTEN TO ME AND LISTEN CAREFULLY: these fucking kids would have found a way, one way or another to cause havoc on the criminals of Gotham with or without the care and training of Batman.
Remember, these kids could have stopped at any point, all they had to do was say so but no. After every traumatic event, after every fight with Bruce, after every death/almost death…they still put on their cowls and fought crime.
Let’s not forget the roots of these characters:
Dick: wanted to kill Tony Zucco
Barbara: Wanted to save Gotham like her father, ended up saving Bruce Wayne, then continued to play hero in spite of Batman telling her not to
Jason: ballsy street kid
Tim: stalked and negotiated his way into being Robin
Steph: went out on her own to stop her criminal father, legit ‘spoil’ his plans
Cassandra: born and raised weapon
Damian: born and raised weapon, thought being Robin was his born given right
Duke: willingly joined the ‘We Are Robin’ movement to fight for Gotham
What are you guys not getting? This information of how each kid becomes a vigilante is free…you don’t even have to read a comic, just look it up on wikis.
That is all, good day

Jason: Has Bernard always looked at you like that, and if so how did you think he was straight?
Tim, to Steph: Stop telling Jason things.
Steph, ignoring Tim: I took Tim's gaydar cause he's not worthy.

I'm so sad that we haven't gotten a proper confrontation between Cassandra "no one dies tonight" Cain and Jason "sometimes bad people need to die" Todd.

Batfam Headcanon
Batfam Headcanon that Dick might be the most open to cuddles. But it's Jason who's the best to cuddle with. (Part 1)
Listen that dude's huge. He has the muscle mass of a bull, and he has the visceral fat to support it. He's the ideal cuddle density. Enhanced metabolism means he runs warmer than a goddamn furnace.
But here's the issue: He's more likely to kneecap the person in hugging range than cuddling them.
So, it's starts with Cassandra, surprisingly.
They're staking out at the harbor on a December night. Cassandra's teeth can be heard chattering a mile away, while Jason looks—completely fine—no indication of any emotion whatsoever, but Cassandra can see the nervousness radiating off the kid's body in seismic waves, shoulders slight curled defensively, and the subtlest lean of his posture towards her.
Suddenly it clicks, and she inches near his hulking form slowly and presses to him. Dick's fabled furnace warmth was right, Jason's so warm, despite the layers of kevlar.
Jason stills, and so does Cassandra, she thinks she's broken something very delicate, maybe irreparably, Jason doesn't have a lot of good memories associated with touch, she should've asked, she should've—but Jason just breathes,
"Jesus Christ, Cassie", and puts an arm around her small frame, and Cassandra doesn't know who sinks further. Her, or Jason into the touch. When was the last time someone held him? Touched him without the intent to harm?
Suddenly she remembers being alone, the aching hollowness no fire or fireplace could chase away. That was only filled by hugs and gentle touch and hair brushing and curling up next to Baba and—
It's an aching hollowness she knows so intimately well.
Jason drapes his jacket over her, it's like being engulfed in a heated blanket, and Cassandra puts her arms around him wordlessly.
She's so warm and comfortable and safe in the hold. (They have their differences, but her brain never registered anything unsafe in Jason the idea that Jason might hurt didn't even cross her conscious mind). She doesn't realize when her eyelids start getting heavier.
"Wake me up if I fall asleep", She says, just incase.
/|\ ^._.^ /|\
Jason doesn't, she wakes up curled up in the Batmobile, assailants apprehended, Jason's jacket wrapped around her.
The NEWS says there were no casualties.

Bat Family 'Bruce is Tim's Biological Parent' AU Idea #2
A cult in Gotham is trying to open some sort of portal to hell/the underworld/a demonic realm and the ritual requires 'the blood of the city'. They decide they need Batman's blood, since he's the city's protector. So they come up with a plan to lure Batman to the space where they plan of performing the ritual and attack. They don't need to all survive or even win the fight, they just need a few drops of his blood. It works.
Bruce, Dick, Jason, Cass, Tim and Damian are all fighting the cult while also trying to figure out how to stop the ritual. They learn (maybe it's on a sacred text, maybe there's some sort of hieroglyph they translate, maybe Tim or oracle hacks something) that it can be stopped with 'the blood of the firstborn' from the original blood source. This sparks a debate on whether this is to be taken literally -meaning they need Dick's blood, Batman's eldest child- or biologically -meaning Damian, his only biological child- and are basically playing keep away with either the dagger needed to draw the blood or the cup it needs to go into.
Tim gets injured during the fight/keep away game from hell, but at the same time, Damian tossed the dagger/grail/cup/whatever to him. Since his blood shouldn't do anything anyway and they need that item to stop something very bad from happening, Tim catches it. As soon as his blood touches it, the ritual stops.
Everyone freezes for a brief moment as they take in the implication. Then they quietly (eerily quietly, if you ask the cult members who were just hearing them banter and debate) knock everyone out, tie them up for Gordon to deal with and head back to the Bat-Cave.
Alfred refuses to let anyone do anything until he's tended to Tim's wound since he's missing his spleen and it's sure to get an infection.
He gives Bruce a blood sample when he's done and then heads up to make some tea for everyone.
They've been getting along well lately, but Cassandra subtly positions herself between Damian and Tim, just in case the former doesn't take well to the news that he isn't Batman's firstborn child.
Everyone is looking at the screen, so Bruce doesn't even need to tell them out loud when the paternity test comes back positive.
The first person to break the silence is Dick, who emphatically complains to Bruce; "You mean we could've had Timmy the whole time?!"
To Bruce's surprise, this is the general reaction of all his kids (that he should have somehow known or at least suspected Tim was his and done something about it), save for Tim, who is just stunned (and already fighting off that impending infection).
