Oh dear. I never talked about it on here, did I? Bluey made an appearance at the Singapore Comic Con last month! And I had to go see it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The arts & crafts activity booth was a brand-awareness plug by BBC Studios, and Bluey was there to take photos with her fans!
Tumblr media
Anyone present who has a photo taken could bring home an 8-inch plush of their choosing. No better way to build brand awareness than that, I'd say!
Naturally, I adopted my son on the spot. But then I suppose the staff felt having Mackenzie alone was sad, so they handed me Bluey as well!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's how I spent my first Heeler Christmas.

Holy hell, new Doctor Who 60th Anniversary trailer? Let’s goooooo!
Alright, thoughts (mostly chronological):
Looking very cinematic, seems like RTD is going all out for his second go at showrunner
Making sure that new viewers know who Donna is with a quick flashback and expository dialogue, very nice, seems like it’ll be done fairly naturally, like with what happened to Rose
DoctorDonna causing things to happen to her again possibly? I know it sent ripples back in time, so maybe it sent ripples forward too
Beep the Meep is a puppet!
Donna automatically calling any alien a Martian. Love it
Doctor using a forcefield(?) to block incoming fire instead of just the enemy inexplicably missing
Very creepy Neil Patrick Harris
Classic villain being recognised as someone who hasn’t shown up in ages.
Beep the Meep is a very expressive puppet! Or is that cgi? I can’t really tell. No matter which way it is, it’s very good
Donna remembers the Tardis? But isn’t exploding? Interesting. I’d like to see how they got there
Remembers that the Tardis is alive and feels emotion, unlike in Resolution
Donna being Donna
Tardis being airlifted again like in DotD, but this time the Doctor gets to ride in the copter. Nice to see Kate remembering that
UNIT got an upgrade after (i think) going bust. I can’t quite remember why that happened
“How do we fight the human race?” Ooh big scale bad stuff. Mass mind control? Something messing with their DNA?
Tardis acting in self defence? Maybe activating shields so no one can enter? Interesting plot point
Bisexual split in the skin of reality
Toy maker instantly recognises the Doctor even after regeneration. Instantly lets us know he’s smart and evil
London becomes Hell on Earth, beautiful cgi
Angsty Tennant, oh how I’ve missed you
Kaiju Toymaker, very fun. I don’t actually know much about him as a character, or what his powers are, other than what I could gather from this one comic I read where he was recaptured and put into a pocket universe
Ooh, the weight he puts into those words. “I don’t know… if I can save your life this time…” Very powerful, can’t wait for that scene
Gatwa + regeneration sfx. I wonder what’ll happen to cause the regeneration. It’s a tossup between sacrificing his life to stop NPH and sacrificing his life to stop Donna from melting into goo from mental overload
Where is that descending piano line at the end from?
Very strong music throughout the trailer. Feeling good about the OST of the specials
Why does this only have 6,400 views after 2 hours?

What the Whoniverse could learn from RTD's first era:
The Stolen Earth and Journey's End are one hell of a two parter that has The Sarah Jane Adventures along with Torchwood to crossover into the main series. Characters and elements from each spin-off it utilized as a means of helping the Doctor against the greatest threat the Daleks have ever posed.
However, it also involves aspects that few wouldn't be able to catch on quickly. I hadn't seen The Sarah Jane Adventures since it never made it to the States as far as I know. However, I knew that Sarah Jane was still investigating alien phenomenon as "School Reunion" showed. Of course, she'd have a supercomputer in her attic. I also assumed that Luke was a boy she adopted before learning his origins in "Invasion of the Bane."
Kind of wish we saw Maria and Clyde when Luke called them with their actors on the sets of their homes. Maybe have them gawk at the Daleks from afar and hold on as the Earth is towed back. Maybe a cameo of Rani if they felt bold enough to promote SJA Series 2.
Torchwood, on the other hand, I had seen in full before Series 4 and as such, I was able to appreciate some nods to the spin off such as Gwen calling her husband, Rhys, or telling Ianto that she'd rather go down fighting like Owen and Tosh.
However, I wouldn't have needed to have seen the spin off since I'd have known that Jack had a team in his sect of Torchwood since Series 3. We're just meeting them in the main series proper.
Additionally, we don't need to know about Rhys to understand that Gwen's calling her loved ones during this worldwide crisis. "Owen" and "Tosh" are easy to identify as previous members of Torchwood that had died in their dangerous line of work. Their two seasons of adventures are just self-contained enough to be basically backstory for them.
As such, Series 4's finale feels less like you had to have seen both spin-off to understand and more like they pique your interest in them. What was Jack up to during Series 3 and 4? What's going on with Sarah Jane these days?
That's really what the new Whoniverse should take a cue from. The Main Series crossing over with the spin-off should have us feeling less like we missed out and more like, "Cool, I know what I'm putting on my watch list ASAP."
Thought?

'Disney+ and BBC have announced premiere dates for the three new Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials.
The first special, The Star Beast, will premiere November 25, followed by Wild Blue Yonder on December 2 and The Giggle on December 9. The specials reunite the 14th Doctor (David Tennant) and Donna Temple-Noble (Catherine Tate) as they come face-to-face with their most terrifying villain yet: the Toymaker, played by Neil Patrick Harris in his Doctor Who debut. All will premiere on Disney+ globally except in the UK and Ireland, where they will air on the BBC.
We’re also getting an expanded look at the specials in a new trailer...
Additional new cast includes Yasmin Finney as Rose Temple-Noble, Miriam Margolyes as the voice of the Meep and Ruth Madeley as Shirley Anne Bingham, as well as returning characters Jacqueline King as Sylvia Noble, Karl Collins as Shaun Temple, and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart.
Doctor Who is the longest running action-adventure television series in the world spanning 60 years and winning over 100 awards. This quintessentially British show has a huge global following, with 9.6m fans across social platforms/channels and 100m video views on YouTube in the last year alone.
Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf and BBC Studios. Russell T. Davies returns as showrunner, and also serves as a writer and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter. The 60th anniversary specials are written by Davies and directed by Rachel Talalay, Tom Kingsley, and Chanya Button, respectively. BBC Studios is handling global distribution.
Ncuti Gatwa takes control of the TARDIS as the 15th Doctor in the new season, which will stream globally in 2024 on Disney+ and on the BBC in the UK and Ireland.'

We Won (Sort Of): The BBC Won't Use AI for Doctor Who Marketing After Complaints
We Won (Sort Of): The BBC Won't Use AI for #DoctorWho Marketing After Complaints
The BBC has backed down and said that it won’t use artificial intelligence to market Doctor Who after outrage online at the notion. On 7th March 2023, the BBC Media Centre announced a new experiment: Doctor Who would be one of the first shows to have AI-generated marketing. While headlines would be written by humans, the actual article contents would be made by Large Language Models (LLMs). That…
