I'm sure that this has been stated many times before, but the way Assassination Classroom begins and ends with Koro Sensei taking attendance is just writing genius.

The first roll call is loud, violent, and chaotic; it's literally all the kids shooting machine guns at Koro Sensei while he effortlessly dodges them and cheekily calls out their names, telling them to speak louder so that he can hear them over all the gunfire. It's impersonal—we don't focus on any of the kids except Nagisa, everyone else is just a figure with a gun.

The last roll call is the exact opposite: quiet, intimate, and personal. Once again, all the kids surround Koro Sensei, but now they're on top of him, pinning down his tentacles, and he is completely immobile on the ground. Now, against the backdrop of this quiet night, we focus on every student of Class 3-E, each of them getting their moment with Koro Sensei as he gently calls out their names and waits for them to say "here".

A beautiful example of connecting the beginning with the end in a way that effectively conveys the progression of everyone involved. Bravo Matsui sensei, bravo.

Rose Recaps Rose Tinted Glasses It's been three months since I made a post thanking this community for being a place for me to share my love of BL.

And since then, every day I feel a little bit more comfortable here.

This place is so special to me for so many reasons and the fact that I found it is a small miracle. I was talking with my friend Neely about something BL related and they told me that they think I'm doing much better since I came here. So thanks again.

I was never a part of any online fandom. And before BL I never really felt like I was missing something. Maybe because I always found someone irl that I could freak out about whatever I was watching I never really felt the need to go look.

And the people here are exceptionally kind. Before, I made a point to never engage much online, except for certain support groups, because of the hate that sometimes exists in certain spaces. So I was very much surprised by the kind humans that exist in this bl fandom in this corner of the internet.

Also. There is some serious brilliant people here. Look giffing is not easy, it takes a long time, sometimes you spend so much time with a set only to hate it by the end and never posting it. And sometimes you post something and you're really proud and crickets. And sometimes you post it just so it doesn't go to waste and all of a sudden it explodes. It's all part of the magic.

I keep my sets pretty simple so I'm in awe of how some people make these beautiful art pieces with layers and colouring and typography. It's incredible and I applaud your creativity and patience.

Speaking of brilliance, I'm constantly in awe of the meta writers. That shit is not easy.

It takes way longer than we think, to make it neat and readable, adding gifs or shots to illustrated a point, sometimes wasting so much time finding the gif you want in the mess that is the gif search (I understand it now, cause yesterday I was on the hunt and it would've been quicker to make the damn gifs), and reviewing it before posting, changing it in the process, sometimes leaving it in drafts because the idea is not completed. I'm tired just thinking about this. I'm not able to do that. Sure I can talk for hours about this stuff but actually organize my ideas into a coherent point of view and writing it down. Nope. Not me. So bravo meta writers. I applaud you.

And of course all the people that share the stuff that really matters. Like the colours, the wardrobe, the places we see, the news about what's coming, language nuances, pictures of the pretty people in sometimes ridiculous or beautiful outfits, sometimes the pretty people before shirts were invented, and some of the funniest commentary I ever encountered.

I don't wanna single people out by tagging them because truly there are way too many. So I just want to thank some people that helped me navigate this place and made this time so enjoyable. First and foremost. @twig-tea You were the first person I talked to here and you were so kind and patient with me and my awkwardness and lack of knowledge of how this place works. She also writes great meta and is brilliant and everyone should be following her. @lurkingshan because of the Sahara-Sensei post that you tagged me in and made me feel so seen. @pharawee because IFYLITA just wouldn't have been the same without your sets. @respectthepetty because she helped get the colour coded subs right and she appreciates the bokeh in all its glory. @itsallaboutbl for screaming with me in portuguese. @mikuni14 Because she's been so incredible kind to me. @iguessitsjustme because of many reasons. @blmpff for a lot but mostly for the most unexpected and incredible moment I experienced in this short time. The day that a bird took over my dash. Khun Feathers was such a treat and this masterpiece was the highlight of the day.

Casey was used to loss.

Growing up in the apocalypse, he lost every day. Supplies, sleep, friends, family... the Kraang never held back when it came to taking those things away form him. Casey knew what it meant to lose something or someone intimately, and yet he was floundering.

In the future he grew up in, there was always something that needed to be done, a distraction. Supplies need needed gathering and sorting, training needed to be attended, camps to build, patrols to do, kraang to fight. There was an abundance of things to keep your mind off of what you lost. The people you'll never see again because right then the most important thing was that you survived the next mission, the next raid, the next kraang.

22 years in the past it was a completely different story.

Casey had nothing but time to think over Master Leonardo, Master Michealangelo, his friends and family back home that are either dead or believe him to be dead. And... Leonardo too, the one from this timeline. The one that, thanks to him, would never become the adopted parent and sensei to Casey Jones Jr. when or if his mother ever had another version of him. The one he had as good as killed at the age of 16!

Splinter and his family have insisted that it wasn't his fault. They'd heard Leo begging over the comes as clearly as he had to close the portal, they knew it was what he had wanted. Even so, Casey couldn't help but feel responsible to his sensei's death, and spent hours at a time kneeling in front of the Hamato family shrine, right where the katana he had retrieved was up fo,r display and Leonardo's photo stood. Splinter would often join him there with tea, a father morning his son. He'd tell Casey stories about Leonardo sometimes, childhood stories that his Sensei had never gotten the chance to say,nhe thought maybe that was the old rat's own way of coping with his family legacy taking his 'Baby Blue' away without going completely catatonic...

The other turtles had a wide range of reactions to their missing member's death. Mikey had thrown himself into the mystic arts, determined to find a way to bring Leo back. Donnie hid away in his lab, pointedly refusing to even look at the photo on the shrine and has been completely nonverbal since ethe moment the portal had collapsed. April was determined to be the glue sticking the family together, trying to fill a role that should be inhabited by a turtle in a blue mask.

Raph had taken it the hardest. He buried himself in his training, shame and regret driving him to improve himself. He rarely asked them to join the training and refused to let Mikey or Donnie join him on patrol, despite his fear of abandonment. He didn't talk about being a hero anymore... Casey thinks Raphael blales himself for Leo's sacrifice.

If anything it was Casey's fault. He'd been the interloper on their peaceful lives, pulling these younger versions of his family into his mission. He'd been the one to put so much priority on the key and the mission he failed to notice Leo floundering due to the moss of his older brother. And then he'd gone and acted like Leo, who'd never had to deal with a situation like the Kraang, had no right to be upset or make a bad call simply because he didn't live up to his expectations! It had been his hands that pulled the key and sealed the kid's fate!

In the future there wasn't enough time to mourn or worry about the people lost. In the past there was nothing but time.

Karatecas necochenses entre los 10 primeros en Rankin Nacional Karatecas necochenses entre los 10 primeros en Rankin Nacional El día sábado 6 de abril tuvo lugar en Mar del Plata el 42º Torneo Nacional Copa Atlántico de Karate, que contó con la participación de atletas necochenses quienes tuvieron una más que destacada actuación en dicha competencia. Desde nuestra ciudad partieron integrantes de los Dojos Mizu No Kokoro Quequén y Centro de Formación Kinética, pertenecientes a los Senseis Walter Bravo (1° Dan) y Rosa Parson (2° Dan) respectivamente, nucleados en el Dojo Sochin del Sensei Julio Dolimpio (4° Dan) quienes representaron a nuestro distrito y provincia de manera brillante Los jóvenes karatecas dirigidos por Bravo, Julián Sánchez Lata y Valentina Sánchez Lata pudieron demostrar el alto nivel que transitan al ingresar a los 10 primeros del Ranking Nacional de cada categoría en la que participaron, remarcable desempeño que los posiciona de forma notable en esta disciplina. Por su parte, desde el Centro de Formación Kinética, la novel deportista Lucia Oyola Montenegro hizo su debut en esta competencia de calibre nacional trayendo la Medalla de Oro, primer puesto que la coronó campeona de su categoría, en tanto que la Sensei del mencionado Dojo, Rosa Parson, pudo avanzar desde el 6° al 4° lugar del Ranking Nacional de su categoría, contando con una participación más que notable del joven David Vega en su debut. Tal desempeño no hace más que afirmar el excelente nivel que gozan quienes practican Karate Do, estilo Shotokan en nuestra ciudad de al desempeñarse de forma sobresaliente ante cientos de representantes de cada rincón del país.

Eu entrei na escola, e fui andando sem rumo, afim de achar um lugar legal para passar o tempo, o legal era que tinha aquelas máquinas onde vendem salgadinhos e doces, mas infelizmente eu não tinha nenhum dinheiro comigo. Parei na frente de uma e a encarei, pensando no sabor que aquele chocolate deve ter, tenho certeza que é bom! Já que vi algumas pessoas comendo ele.

— Huhhh~ — fechei os olhos me imaginando devorando aquele chocolate, mas assim que eu abri, vi um reflexo de um homem. — Ah!

Me afastei da máquina, pensando que ele queria algo dela, mas ele veio na minha direção e me encarou, ele tinha uma aparência um tanto diferente e um cheiro bem estranho também, era o mesmo cheiro que alguns adultos tinham quando soltavam fumaça pela boca.

— Ajudar no que? — disse desconfiado. — O seu sensei não vai ficar bravo se você não ir para a aula?

— Não, é claro que não! Eu apenas perdi algo e infelizmente não consigo pegar, mas acho que você consegue fazer isso para mim, não é?

Eu dei de ombros e encarei o homem novamente, ele tinha aquela típica aparência de quem sempre iria para a diretoria, mas é melhor eu ajudar um valentão do que ser a próxima vítima dele.

— Tudo bem então, acho que não tem problema....

Que vergonha, eu me vendendo por um chocolate, mas tenho certeza de que os Sakamakis não me dariam um se eu pedisse a eles.

— Ótimo! Meu nome é Ren.

— Meu nome é Kauze. — sorri para ele.

— Vamos então.

Ren me levou para o jardim da escola e andamos um pouco até finalmente chegarmos em uma janela, ela era um pouco alta, e eu rapidamente olhei para ele com desconfiança.

— Vamos, eu vou te levantar e você vai entrar pela janela, e então eu vou correndo para a porta e você abre para mim, está bem?

— Ei! Isso não é errado? Eu não vou fazer isso! — bati o pé no chão. — E se a gente se mexer em confusão?

— Por favor, Kauze! Tô te implorando cara! Tem algo muito importante para mim lá dentro, prometo que não vou te colocar em apuros, se alguém pegar você lá dentro, pode jogar a culpa em mim.

— Huh... Tudo bem, mas eu vou querer todos os chocolates da máquina! — fiz biquinho.

— Todos os chocolates?! Você vai me falir desse jeito, eu posso te dar um de cada, nada mais do que isso.

— Tudo bem, eu aceito... — disse relutante. — Promete que você não está me enganando?

— Prometo baixinho.

Ele então me pegou nos braços, me erguendo o mais alto que ele conseguia, chegou ao ponto dele segurar meus pés com as mãos dele para que eu ficasse em "pé", eu só espero que ninguém esteja vendo isso, eu me agarrei no para peito da janela e entrei dentro da sala.

— Consegui! — disse da janela.

— Ótimo! Quando ouvir 3 batidas na porta você abre, ok?

Ele então saiu correndo e eu suspirei, acho que eu deveria cobrar mais caro pelos meus "serviços" eu olhei envolta e pareceria ser uma sala particular, como se fosse da diretora ou algo do tipo, e isso me deixou com mais medo ainda, não demorou muito para que eu ouvisse as três batidas na porta e abri e por sorte era o Ren.

— Você é um valentão, não é? — questionei ele. — Tenho certeza que o aluno que só tinha nota alta não estaria aqui!

Mostrei a língua para ele, indignado por ter ajudado um aluno como ele, mas o Ren não parecia se importar tanto com isso, ele apenas ficou mexendo das coisas da sala e eu ficava mais ansioso, com medo de alguém aparecer.

— Ah! Achei! — Ele então pegou um papel e rasgou, eu senti minha alma sair e voltar do corpo! Isso era tão errado! — Que foi? Você tá mais pálido do que o normal.

— Você rasgou! — disse incrédulo. — Eles vão saber que estivermos aqui!

— Não vão, isso era um papel que meus pais deveriam assinar, mas infelizmente ele não está mais aqui e até fazerem outro eu já vou ter dado uma desculpa.

Ele então continuou mexendo em algumas coisas e pegou uma caixinha com alguns palitos fedorentos. Rapidamente coloquei a mão no meu nariz e fiz uma careta.

— Eca! São aqueles negócios que fazem você soltar fumaça pela boca!

— São mesmo, e são bem caros por sinal, agora vamos.

A gente então saiu correndo do local, eu nunca me senti tão "travesso" só espero que ninguém descubra o que eu fiz! Se não eu vou ficar no porão do Reiji por toda a eternidade!

— Ei Kauze, vamos pegar seus doces.

Ele segurou minha mão e me levou até a máquina de doces, e por sorte ele cumpriu com sua parte do combinado e eu finalmente tinha vários chocolates! Eu rapidamente abracei minha nova "conquista"

— Obrigado Ren! Eu amei!

— Hahaha, agora você não está mais com medo, não é? Já que eu perdi a primeira aula por causa da nossa missão, vou ficar com você.

— Tudo bem! Eu gosto de ficar perto das pessoas. — sorri e me sentei em uma mesa próxima, e o Ren sentou do meu lado. — Eu nunca tive tantos doces!

— Não?! Como assim? Eu vi você chegando com aqueles riquinhos. — ele revirou os olhos. — Me diz, o que você é deles?

— Eu?! Bem eu... Eu... — e agora? O Reiji disse que eu não poderia falar nada sobre vampiros, mas também não me disse o que eu deveria falar. — O pai deles me adotou, só isso.

— Só isso? Então quer dizer que você é um órfão?

— Sim... Eu perdi meus pais faz pouco tempo, mas tenho sorte que o pai deles me adotou e agora eu tenho uma família de novo!

— Sinto muito por você, Kauze. Só espero que aqueles caras estejam tratando você bem. Sabe, eu nunca fui muito com a cara deles, mas confesso que é bem divertido jogar basquete contra o Ayato.

— Eu não os conheço muito bem, já que estou a pouco tempo lá... — tentei desconversar com ele, já que tinha medo de falar muita coisa e acabar falando algo que não devo. — Você joga basquete? E o Ayato também?! Que legal!

— Sim, devo confessar que ele é bem ágil, nem parece que ele é um humano as vezes, isso é bem chato.

Eu rapidamente engasguei quando ele disse isso, será que ele desconfia do Ayato? E se alguém jogar a culpa em mim?! E se eu ficar de castigo para sempre?!

— Ei, ei, ei. Eu sei que você gosta muito desses doces, mas não precisa se matar por causa disso. — ele deu alguns tapinhas na minhas costas. — Você está bem?

— Uhum! Eu só estou muito feliz por comer chocolate! Só isso! — tentei disfarçar. — Ren! Ren! Acho que você está bem enganado, as vezes o Ayato pode parecer bem rápido, mas acho que ele treina muito para isso, não é?

— É, você está certo baixinho! Mas um dia eu vou ganhar dele, espere para ver.

Ele bagunçou meu cabelo, e eu ri, ele era bem legal! Mesmo que seja um bagunceiro e valentão, acho que ele tem um bom coração, já que ele foi uma das únicas pessoas que realmente conversou comigo deste que eu saí da mansão do Senhor Karlheinz.

— Ren, você pode ser meu amigo? Mesmo se for só um pouquinho...?

— E tem como eu negar depois dessa pequena aventura que tivermos? Pode contar comigo Kauze, se precisar de um valentão como eu para te defender, só me chamar.

— Mesmo? Você quer ser meu amigo? De verdade?!

— Bem, eu nunca fui amigo de uma criança antes, mas acho que consigo fazer isso? Não acha?

Eu rapidamente abracei ele, balançando a cabeça rapidamente concordando com ele, eu finalmente fiz um amigo! Achei que isso seria bem difícil, mas fico feliz por ter conhecido o Ren.

— Claro que sim! Você é muito legal! Eu também nunca tive nenhum amigo, então acho que podemos aprender juntos, não é?

— Sim, claro.

Ele retribuiu meu abraço acho que foi o primeiro abraço que eu recebi depois de muito tempo, era tão bom! Eu quero fazer muitos amigos para receber vários abraços todos os dias! Mas logo ele se afastou de mim, e eu estranhei por algum momento, e então eu me virei para trás e vi o Shu.

20/07/2023 - Sonhei que fui na cantina do sesi (so q era um restaurante) comprar um doce e peguei uma torta de doce de leite com coco mas aí pensei melhor almoçar tbm q hj tem super férias, aí a Re falou pra eu tomar cuidado q a máfia italiana tava tendo uma reunião secreta onde ficava o selfie service e q eles eram bravos e um deles tinha mania de quebrar copo nas pessoas e eu bravo é meu rabo se eu não almoçar e fui lá, peguei um prato e comecei a me servir e tds ficaram em silêncio e começaram a me encarar. Aí um deles falou "vc não pode ficar aq vai pra outro lugar" e eu "mas no outro lugar na tem comida". Silêncio mortal. O homem levantou com um copo de vidro na mão e arregaçou ele na minha cara, o copo estilhaçou e entrou vidro no meu olho. Descobri q a Re era pique uma enfermeira mas os cara proibiu ela de me ajudar e ela falou pra eu ir lá a noite q ela removia o estilhaço do meu olho no sigilo. Fui eu pro super férias com o olho doendo que era uma desgraça toda vez q eu piscava parecia q o vidro entrava mais fundo e eu pensando caralho vou ficar cega, será q eu me adapto a viver com um olho só? Pra ajudar a Natália passou uma estafeta q eu não entendi bosta nenhuma e que terminava nadando na piscina e ainda pediu pra eu demonstrar, lá fui em fiz bem na maciota e tudo errado e o Ricardo não gostou. Nisso o Kokubun tava ali perto discutindo com uma garota e quando a gente catou as bike pra ir embora ele tava fechando o porta malas e a garota tinha sumido, percebemos q ele era da máfia tbm e matou ela e tava levando o corpo no carro e ele viu q a gente viu e deu um sorriso sem graça e disse "vcs não entenderam o contexto, não me julguem" e a gente "que isso professor quem somos nós pra julgar". Voltei na Re durante a noite mas os mafiosos estavam lá e me pegaram no flagra e ela não conseguiu me operar, pra salvar minha vida fiquei mostrando desenhos de anime q eu fiz (por alguma razão tinha uma quantidade absurda de desenhos do Gai sensei) e eles acharam incrível e falaram q se eu quisesse ao invés de ser morta podia trabalhar pra eles espionando e desenhando o que eu visse. Por algum motivo achei aquele trampo daora e aceitei. Aí eu tinha q usar uma roupa de mafiosa e eu escolhi a regata preta da Natália com uma corrente e óculos escuros e fiquei parecendo o Vin Diesel só q de blusa preta, com cabelo e franga.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Perth – Legion 13 Black Belt

In 2008, Crimson attended Gracie Barra in Cannington (now called Legion 13). When Crimson started BJJ at our Legion 13 HQ, he was heavily overweight and was looking for a lifestyle change. At the end of his first trial session, he signed up with Legion 13 and has not stopped training since. When he started he was a white belt. After more than 12 years of consistent training, he was honored in December 2019 to receive his Black belt from Professor Grayson West (Legion 13 sensei).

Learning BJJ has taught Crimson humility, patience, and perseverance which develops over time, as BJJ cannot be learned in a day. Crimson understands that there will always be someone faster and stronger than you. BJJ will enable you to respond by use of leverage and timely positioning, which will result in submitting your opponent. Everyone has their own style, but Crimson will identify where there can be room for growth to increase a person’s creativity and skill. At  C2 Martial Arts Academy, Crimson will teach you the BJJ Basics which will be taught with a Gi (kimono) and No-Gi.

He has worked closely with his sensei, Grayson West, a world champion and a professor in BJJ for many years. Crimson has become a multiple Champion at State and National levels in Australia, in his division. He has also trained with many international world champions such as Mendes Brothers, Andre Galvao, Eddie Bravo, and Augusto “Tanquinho” Mendes.

Having taught his young stepson and daughter BJJ, he has instilled self-confidence, discipline, and respect into their world. He has also had a positive impact on their lifestyle getting them outdoors and teaching them self-defense skills. He has mentored many students, of all levels, throughout the years making a significant impact on many lives.

After almost a decade of training, Crimson has accepted an opportunity to take over the Northern suburbs Legion 13 academy, in Ocean Reef (5 minutes from Joondalup). With him, he brings years of experience and dedication, passion, personable nature, and supportive teaching style.

With no particular theme I wanted to integrate this month, there were all kinds of directions available to go in! I've gone with a selection that has some stellar remakes, one or two old and overlooked gems, and an overall pacing that starts you off storming the barricades and ends at deep concentration.

As mentioned at the end of the show - I know it's seriously a hard time for a lot of people with the rising cost of living, but if you're one of those doing better, I can't see the point of having money in your pocket instead of going to see Rakim!

Public Enemy ft. Nas, Black Thought, Rapsody, YG, Jahi, and Questlove : Fight The Power 2020

Now that is a serious guest lineup! Everyone invited had to be incredibly honoured to get the nod from Public Enemy to appear on the remix of their classic 1989 protest anthem. Sadly, it's as relevant as ever, and the new verses include the names of more victims of white supremacy - let's hope that we're not here for another version in 2051.

[Kut Masta Kurt] PMD : Straight From Da Heart (Instrumental)

Simultaneously angular and a straight-ahead groove as so many of Kurt's beats are, this was a great backing for Parrish Smith of EPMD on this single from the "The Awakening" solo LP, during the period in which EPMD was disbanded.

Robert Glasper ft. Yasiin Bey : Black Radio

If you like "Umi Says" Mos Def, then this vocal performance will likely be right up your street. This was the title track of the first Robert Glasper Experiment LP "Black Radio" (Glasper's fifth overall), where he mixes his jazz foundation with Hip-Hop and a lot besides. With the third edition released this year, do yourself a favour and listen to the complete set!

Tiombe Lockhart : O'Bloody Days, O'Starry Nights On The Bowery

Of all the tracks on Waajeed's "The War LP", this may not be the one that grabs you instantly, but after repeated listens the quality will draw you in. The Detroit electronic sound and humanised drum timing are in full effect on a dense, sweeping piece of production, while Lockhart's vocals are haunting.

De La Soul : The Return of DST

A short but excellent track which I first heard on "unkut.com presents: The 40 Oz." It channels a vibe just straddling the end of the old skool and the start of the new (for those that don't know, RUN DMC's revolutionary debut is arguably the dividing line), and pays homage to Grandmixer DXT, who was originally known as D.St, and famously was the featured artist on "Rockit" by Herbie Hancock.

Starship Connection : Heartbreaker

I think I first heard this on Twitch, where the sheer number of quality DJs you can view on any given day really makes you want to stay on top of your game! Made up of B.Bravo out of Los Angeles and San Fran's Teeko, Starship Connection fly the flag for the classic electro-funk sound, and this single is a sterling example. Bravo takes command of the talkbox and Teeko on production as the duo cover the classic Zapp track "Heartbreaker". The rhythm is, in modern style, a bit more on the edge, and they punctuate the tracks with extra breakdowns and flourishes compared to the original. This was a brave one to take on, but they do it proud!

Jan Hammer : Transformers

Jan Hammer will always be one of my favourite musicians, and this track from the 1992 soundtrack to the surreal, computer-generated film "Beyond The Mind's Eye" could just have easily slotted into the "Miami Vice" or "Cocaine Cowboys" scores. He's known for being able to do some amazing things with pure synths, including soaring guitar lines like the one we have here - he could much more easily call in a guitarist, but that wouldn't be as much fun!

Maro Music, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah : Throwback Boogie

Of all the combinations of Wu MCs, Rae and Ghost is almost certainly the most iconic and influential, so the producer Maro Music pulled a blinder getting them both to take the mic over his beat on this new single. The beat is just raw crunching thump, and the bars are criminology - exactly how we like it.

Meyhem Lauren : Hate

Somehow I'd forgotten all about this one from the "Piatto D'Oro" album, but was reminded when the video popped up in my Youtube recommendations! This one just grinds sonically, with Icerocks bringing pure ruggedness on the production. Meyhem has fun with it, not going crazy complex but still with some wordplay gems, and the whole attitude is just defiant flossing.

Mega Ran ft. Del Tha Funky Homosapien : Box and One

As DJ A-Up and Bedos might have said, this is that NouGold! Mega Ran's star has deservedly continued to ascend, and to hear him connect with one of the great MCs I remember debuting in the 90s is wonderful. All-star pen game all over this DJ DN3-produced track, which is titled after a basketball defensive technique sometimes used to stifle one dominant offensive player, and seen as a mark of respect for/fear of their skills. The "Live 95" LP is definitely one worth your time, and one that explores possibly the crossover of my interests growing up - Hip-Hop, basketball, and video games!

Herma Puma ft. Sensei Of Soul : Disposable Rappers (BusCrates Remix)

Heavy futuristic-tinged business here with Pittsburgh's Buscrates crafting a remix of this Herma Puma track reminiscent of DJ Spinna, and Sensei of Soul encouraging us to clean house - not in a sniffy purist, "you may only sound like this" way, but in the sense of quality control and the welfare of the art as a whole. Sometimes a reminder is needed that declining standards don't have to be accepted! This track escaped my full notice for a while, but it's available on 2011's "Two Syllables Volume Six" for a bargain sum :)

Le$ : Do You Feel Me? (Instrumental)

While Le$ might have had some of his most memorable on-mic moments on the production of guys like DJ Mr. Rogers and Tavaras Jordan, he can get busy on the boards himself. This beat from "Original Player Sounds" takes a nice 80s sample and just puts a little extra on it.

Dwele ft. Slum Village : Keep On 

This is that blend where R&B/neo-soul brings Hip-Hop into the mix, and this time it's all in the family. Detroit's Dwele is part of the extended Slum Village family (you may know him from tracks like Slum's "Tainted"), and here he borrows a taste from Soulquarian Common's Dilla-produced "Dooinit" to sidle up to an unnamed lady. With J Dilla on production again here, and Slum Village appearing as guests on the mic, it's all love.

Snoop ft. October London : Touch Away

Another 80s soul sample re-animated here on this new Snoop single - not from the recently-released "BODR" album, but apparently from an upcoming release "Death Row Summer". This isn't the first time this groove has appeared on a Hip-Hop track, and it's not even disguised - not too much cut on it, as it were. Some accenting bass and drums is all it takes to give it that 2022 wash and wax. Top-down music all the way with October London providing a little soulful accent.

DJ Spinna ft. Apani B & Jean Grae : Hold

I had to flick back into the archives because I was absolutely convinced that I'd already played you this one, but somehow it seems to have escaped the monthly selections! Jean Grae and Apani B are raw on the mic, a perfect combination on top of the production of DJ Spinna. This particular cut is from "Here To There", Spinna's first contribution to BBE's "Beat Generation" series, where a number of top producers were given free reign to turn in any kind of album they liked. Spinna showed his versatility throughout, but this is just straight-ahead Hip-Hop, interpolating a famous soul bassline, building around that, and letting the MCs loose!

Method Man, Jadakiss, Eddie I, 5th PXWER : Switch Sides

The lead two artists will be known to most, but the latter two probably less so.  Eddie I was someone I struggled to find info on (no Google, I don't mean Eddie Izzard), but 5th PXWER is the now-emerging son of Method Man. He's got a long way to go to compete with his famous father, but then so do most MCs.  P.Version crafts a rugged instrumental, and this track from "Meth Lab Season 3 : The Rehab" speaks to a universal truth - you can't trust a turncoat.

Pete Rock : Time For Learning

A beat that grabbed me from the very first listen, this is my clear favourite from the new "Petestrumentals 4" collection from Mount Vernon's finest. With only two years since the third edition, the pace between releases seems to be quickening - which is great for us :) Don't sleep on the expanding catalogue of1 one of the greatest ever to touch a drum sampler!

Eric B & Rakim : As The Rhyme Goes On

With the prospect of Rakim making his long-awaited return to Manchester, I decided to end the episode with a track from "Paid In Full" that isn't necessarily the most played from the Eric B & Rakim canon. Replaying a classic soul number for the bassline, it kicks off with the drumline audio being reversed (remember kids, no digital editing yet!) before it switches to the normal direction after Rakim's opening four bars. This has a deep meditation vibe, broken up only by the "pump it up homeboy" samples, which are kind of all over the place timing-wise - I'd have preferred less, but who am I to argue with legends?
