#BUCK & EDDIE ACTUAL SIZES

Text
Eddie wouldn’t say he loves his job. He isn’t sure anyone actually loves working in organized crime, but hey, it pays the bills. And he’s good at it, so that’s a plus. All he has to do is pick up bags, drop them at predetermined destinations, and then collect the money. Easy. That is, until it goes wrong. Because of course it does. Things always go wrong for him.
“Where’s the rest of the money?” Sam asks. He’s Eddie’s boss, a greasy dude with shifty eyes.
Eddie frowns. “What are you talking about? It’s all there.”
“No, it’s not. You’re short five hundred. What, you think you can steal from the Harringtons and I won’t notice?”
Eddie’s eyes go wide as he realizes the situation he’s in. “Whoa, dude, what? No! Why would I steal? I’m not stupid!”
Sam takes a menacing step forward and Eddie tries to move back, but feels his path stopped by a thick chest. Yeah, this isn’t looking good.
“Give the money back now, and maybe I’ll let you go. If you don’t, you’re not going to like what happens next.”
Fear coils in Eddie’s stomach. If he had the money he would give it back out of his own pocket. As it stands, all he’s got is the 15 bucks that he’d planned on using for dinner tonight. He’s completely screwed.
“Sam, please, you have to believe me. I didn’t take anything!”
Sam glowers. “Fine, that’s how you wants it.”
Eddie’s grabbed on both sides by strong hands. He tries to fight but knows it no uses. The hired muscle are twice his size, and while he’d probably be able to outrun them, there’s no getting out of the their grasp.
He’s dragged from the office and thrown roughly in the trunk of a car. This is it, he thinks. This is how he’s going to die. They’re going to take him to some river and throw him in with bricks tied to his feet. He’d heard of this sort of thing happening, sure, but he’d never thought it would happen to him. Because he wasn’t stupid enough to cross the Harringtons. They were the most powerful crime family in the country, and Eddie valued his life, thank you very much. But apparently none of that mattered.
The ride is bumpy and it feels like it takes forever. But maybe that’s just Eddie, to out of his mind with fear to pay much attention. He tries to escape, kicking at the trunk and looking for a release lever. Of course, there’s nothing. When they finally come to a stop, he prepares himself to fight. The trunk opens and he tries to launch himself at the nearest thug, but the angles all wrong. He’s thrown the ground with ease, gravel crunching beneath his body.
“Get up,” one of the goons snarls, grabbing him by the arm and yanking him up.
Eddie looks around, trying to get an idea of his surroundings. He’d thought they’d maybe be out in the middle of the woods or near a body of water, but there’s none of that. Instead, they’re outside a massive mansion.
“What the fuck? Where are we?”
He’s pulled forward. “The big boss is out of the country, so we’re taking you to his son. We’ll let him decide how to handle you.”
Ah, shit. That wasn’t much better. He hadn’t worked for the Harringtons for three years without hearing all the horror stories. Sure, Thomas Harrington was in charge and had a reputation for violence, but Eddie had heard plenty about his son as well. A rich boy with a mean streak, they said. So what would he do to Eddie for apparently stealing from his family? Nothing good, that was for sure.
Eddie barely had any time to look around as he was dragged through the mansion and pulled through a set of double doors into an office, where he was thrown to his knees. Slowly, he brought his eyes up.
The first thing he saw were the pair of shiny black shoes. Nothing at all like his own worn out pair of shit kickers. His eyes travel up over a pair of sinfully long legs and thick thighs, all wrapped up in a pair of dress pants that probably cost more than he made in several months. Beyond that was a red silk shirt, only partially buttoned to reveal one of the nicest chests Eddie had ever seen. He sort of hated himself for thinking that, even now.
Finally, his gaze reached the face of the man himself. Steve Harrington was every bit as gorgeous as people said he was, and maybe a bit more. With a strong nose and defined chin, brown eyes that looked a little bored, and perfectly styled hair. Because of course it wasn’t enough that he’d been born rich and powerful. No, he also had to be unbelievably pretty.
Steve brought a cigarette to his lips and took a drag. “Who’s this?”
“This,” one of the thugs says, kicking Eddie’s foot, “Is just a low level piece of shit who thought he could steal from you, sir. We brought him here to let you decide what to do with him.”
Steve looked back to Eddie. “Is that true? Did you steal from my father?”
“No!” Eddie cried.
“Liar,” one goon snarled. “He was short by $500.”
“I swear, I didn’t take anything! I wouldn’t do that, I’m not a fucking idiot!”
Steve just continued to look at him, though he now seemed a bit curious. “Then where did the money go?”
Eddie shook his head. “I have no idea! Do you really think I’d risk my life over five hundred bucks? If I was going to steal, I’d take a lot more than that, I can promise you.”
To Eddie’s relief, though he wasn’t sure how great that relief should be, Steve laughed. He had a nice laugh, very full and bright. If Steve is amused, Eddie can use that. He’s good at being amusing. If the prince needs a jester, he can be that.
“What’s your name?” Steve asks.
“Eddie.”
“How old are you?”
“Twenty four.”
Steve nods and takes another drag from his cigarette. “Right.”
He then reaches into his back pocket, and Eddie withdraws into himself. Is he going to pull a gun and just end him right here? At least that would be quick. But it’s not a gun, just his wallet. Steve flips it open and takes out a few hundred dollar bills, before tossing them at the floor by the goons feet. They flutter down like rich person confetti.
“To cover what’s missing,” he says.
The men glance at each other, as if unsure of what to do, before bending down to collect the money. “Uh, yes sir. We’re sorry to have bothered you. We’ll just get this waste of space out of your sight.”
They go to grab Eddie again and he struggles. He’s pretty sure that once he’s out of this room, his time will be up. But then Steve holds up a hand.
“Oh no, leave him here with me.”
Now the guards looked even more confused, and the sentiment was shared by Eddie. Was Steve some sick sadist, who wanted to torture Eddie here all by himself? But the thugs weren’t going to defy their boss. They gave him a shove, forcing him down to his hands, then retreated out of the office. Once the door was closed, Steve made his way around to the other side of the desk and sat. Eddie sort of thought he should get up off his knees, but he didn’t want to make any sudden movements. Maybe now was the best time to plead his case.
“Please, sir, you have to believe that I didn’t take that money.”
But Steve only shrugs and puts his cigarette out. “I don’t really care if you did. Honestly, it would be kind of funny.”
Eddie just stares at him, sure he heard him wrong. “Um, what?”
“Yeah,” Steve says, kicking his feet up on the desk. “My dads an asshole. I’ve stolen from him hundreds of times, and either he doesn’t care or he doesn’t notice. So really, it makes no difference to me.”
Well, this definitely wasn’t how Eddie had thought this was going to go. He still sort of thinks this is a trap, a ruse to get Eddie to admit that he’d actually taken the money.
“Right. So… I’m not in trouble?”
“Nah.”
“Oh. So, can I go then?”
And now Steve gets this certain look in his eye, one that’s bright and sharp, and Eddie almost feels like a prey animal caught in the mouth of a wolf den. But Steve is still smiling, and it seems genuine.
“You can if you want. Or…”
Eddie waits. He’s really not sure where this is going. What else can he want from him? When Steve doesn’t go on, just continues to stare, Eddie raises his eyebrows. “Or what?”
Steve shifts forward in his chair, resting his elbows on the desk and his chin in his hand. “Now, maybe I’m completely off base with this, so correct me if I’m wrong here. But you were checking me out when you first got here, weren’t you?”
Eddie’s mouth goes dry and his heart jumps in his chest. He hadn’t thought Steve had noticed.
“Please, Mr. Harrington, that wasn’t… I didn’t mean to offend you.”
“Call me Steve. I hate when people call me Mr. Harrington. And you didn’t offend me. The opposite, in fact.”
Eddie just stares. This can’t be going where he thinks it’s going. Where he’s hoping it’s going. “Really?”
“Yeah, really,” Steve says, his smile growing wider. “I know when someone’s interested in me and you,” his eyes roam over Eddie’s body, “Are very interested.”
He’s cocky, that’s for sure. Eddie hates that he likes it. He really, really likes it. To his embarrassment, he even feels himself twitch in his jeans.
“So I guess you have two choices,” Steve continues. “You can get up and leave right now. No one will stop you and you’ll be free to go on your way. Or… You can stay. And we can come to an arrangement of an entirely different sort.”
And Eddie knows he should leave. He should get up and walk out right now. Because Harrington is nothing but trouble. He can see it written in every line of him, from that cocksure grin to those $3000 shoes. But Eddie’s never claimed to be smart. And he’s never been able to turn down a bit of trouble.
He leans back on his heels, titling his head in a way that draws Steve’s eyes to his neck, and grins.
“I’m listening.”

Okay, this is a very random framing meta that started as an "it's interesting that even though Oliver is a pretty big guy they pretty much never use Buck's size for intimidation" and it evolved to something buddie from there. It actually started because the one instance I could think of where they highlight Buck's size, that being the "what's your problem, man" conversation.
Tumblr media
Because here's the thing, Ryan is what? 2 inches shorter than Oliver? But they really made a point of making Buck look bigger in this scene because Buck is mad and he's trying to be intimidating, and it makes Eddie looks smaller even if he's not small by any definition. So I went to the other fight they had, the grocery store scene, they actually frame it so Eddie looks bigger even though he's not because Eddie is the one whos mad. And even though we can see Eddie when the focus is on Buck, we can't see Buck when the focus is on Eddie. It's all very Buck is seeing Eddie, Eddie is not seeing Buck.
Tumblr media
So I went looking for all the Big Conversations to look at the framing choices and I'm gonna type out thoughts I guess.
I separated this into categories, the first one being Conversations About Christopher. The thing with the talks about Chris is that they are always sitting down for them. They're on the same level.
Tumblr media
When Shannon comes back and Eddie is confused about what to do about it, the close-ups actually don't try to make it seem like either of them is bigger, but the wider angle puts Eddie in the center and Buck angled in a way where Buck looks smaller, obviously because even though Buck has a place on Eddie's life, his space on Christopher's isn't that established.
Tumblr media
Then we have the skateboard discussion. At this point, we know that Buck loves Christopher and that he is a established as part of Chris' life. And it's interesting that they are talking here where none of them is highlighted and Buck actually comes up with a solution for a parenting problem while Eddie is spiraling.
Tumblr media
Then we have everyone's favorite conversation about Christopher. Yes the discussion of the will is very layered but it is about Chris, and again, they are on the same level, none of them is highlighted and even the close-ups leave them about the same size and showing roughly the same amount of the other at all times. This is Eddie making it clear that he also understands Buck's space on Christopher's life.
Tumblr media
There's also when Eddie is struggling with the fact that Chris is scared and missing Shannon, again, they are always shown at the same level while Buck tries to help Eddie and we are always seeing both of them while working the problem.
Then we have the Buck Needs Reassurance talks. During this type of conversation, Eddie is always standing up and Buck is sitting down, making a point of having Buck look up at Eddie. Those scenes being when Maddie leaves and Chim punches Buck and the conversation after Buck's death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's interesting here too that they made a point of having Buck in comfortable clothes because he's in a vulnerable place and but he is comfortable enough in looking up at Eddie (literally and figuratively).
Then we have the Eddie Needs Reassurance talks. Those are very interesting because they usually start with them being at different levels, but equalizing once they start talking.
Tumblr media
The most intense example of this is the talk about the panic attacks, Buck approaches Eddie when he's laying down and Buck's standing up, but once the conversation actually becomes a conversation not just Eddie avoiding the topic, they are both sitting down and being shown as the same size as they work it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same with the aftermath of Eddie's breakdown, they start with Buck standing up but once they start talking, they are both sitting down and on the same level.
Then there are the Intense Conversations That Feel Somewhat Unresolved. (I'm not sure how to categorize this one, coincidentally they are talking about Buck almost dying in both)
It starts with Eddie dropping Christopher off at the loft before the tsunami.
Tumblr media
They're on the same level but they are not seeing eye to eye, Eddie is trying but Buck refuses to look at him. Something that's interesting about this one is that Buck is usually in very tight shirts and Eddie's are usually looser, but since we are supposed to think that Buck is wasting away, Eddie's shirt is very well fitted, even the seam on the shoulders are in the exact right spot but Buck's is on the looser side (seriously, most of Buck's shirt look like they will rip off his arm if he flexes a little, the fact that there's space in that sleeve is crazy lol). Something important here I think is the way they are on the same side of the screen during close-ups, so they never try to make it seem like they are looking at each other and the other one is not shown, and the wider angle they are facing different directions, so they really aren't on the same page here.
I think the grocery store scene kinda fits into this category, but it's a bigger blowout and there's more at stake since it's in a very public setting with an audience. But they are facing each other, they are just not on the same side of the conflict.
Tumblr media
And there's the cemetery scene, where even though they are talking and on the same level, they are NOT seeing eye to eye, and it's interesting because they pretty much never look at each other at the same time in this scene. They are having an important conversation, but there's tension and they are not agreeing on what's going on here. Even the close-ups make a point of cutting the other one from the frame.
Tumblr media
Something else I think it's interesting about this particular scene is that when they do show us them looking at each other when the focus is supposed to be on Eddie, they show us Buck's face, but when the focus is supposed to be on Buck, we don't see Eddie's.
Then we have Conflict Resolution Talks.
Tumblr media
In contrast with the talk they have before the tsunami, the talk they have after, they are finally looking at each other. And even though both of them are centered on both scenes, they are finally facing each other, so, they are finally getting on the same page.
Then we have them making up after the lawsuit.
Tumblr media
The framing of this scene fascinates me. There's a literal obstacle between them. They put something physical between them to show how much this conflict was in their way and they put them both on the edges of the frame. But the way the scene progresses is also interesting because we see a lot more of Buck when the focus is on Eddie than we see of Eddie when the focus is on Buck.
Tumblr media
They go as far as to make Eddie look smaller, making more of a show of the distance between them when the focus is on Eddie and it shows that Eddie sees Buck's side but Buck is not really seeing his. But that equalizes as they talk, Buck being the one that starts closing the distance between them, coming to be resolved when they both meet in the middle. In a quite literal representation of the way this gets resolved (It started because Buck didn't reach out leaving Eddie unsure of his space, Buck reaches out to close the gap, they meet in the middle because they're a team <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there's our favorite kitchen scene.
Tumblr media
Something interesting here is that we see Eddie when the focus is on Buck but we don't see Buck when the focus is on Eddie. Even in the wider angle, Eddie is closer to the edge of the frame and Buck is pretty centered. Buck is doing all the moving in this scene, Eddie leans into the sink when he starts drinking and Buck is the one closing the space between considering Eddie is still in the same spot he started when the scene ends. It kinda shows that while Eddie is willing to talk, Buck is gonna have to put in some work. Eddie is also in a headspace that might need some more reaching out and it shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't really have a category for this scene, the point here is Buck giving Eddie hope. What I think it's interesting here is that even though they are facing different directions, they are always on the same side of the screen in the close-ups. Buck's in Eddie's space and Eddie is letting him and in the context of this scene is the first time in a while. Even the wider angle has them to the side. Buck is trying to step into the mess with Eddie, and Eddie is finally letting him. (Hoping we get a mirror of this scene in the future tbh)
This is all for now.

tease tidbit tuesday
thank you to @wildlife4life @shitouttabuck @fortheloveofbuddie @cal-daisies-and-briars @daffi-990 @jeeyuns @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove @loserdiaz for tagging me over the last week!!
buck meets the diazes won the poll from a few days ago, so here's a slightly reworked snippet for y'all :)
Ramon doesn’t say anything to him on his way into the kitchen, so Buck turns back to the section on fried foods, looking for a dish to bring to his birthday barbeque. He stops again when he hears Ramon muttering to himself in Spanish. Buck catches the tail end of it – something about not being able to find the trash can?  “Under the counter,” Buck calls out absentmindedly, finger pausing on a recipe for fried okra. Bingo.  Ramon pokes his head through the kitchen door and looks at him in surprise. “You understand Spanish?” “Oh, yeah,” Buck says awkwardly. “I can’t speak it very well, and my accent’s terrible. But I lived in Peru for a little while, picked up a few words here and there. And Eddie and Chris are always watching their telenovelas, so I thought I’d try to learn so I can actually follow along.” He shrugs, eyes flitting back to his book. “I’m not fluent yet, but I’d like to be, someday.”  “Hmm,” Ramon says, expression inscrutable. “Well, thank you, Buck.”  He disappears back into the kitchen, and Buck figures that's the end of it, going back to mentally calculating the amount of okra he’ll need to buy to feed everyone coming to his party. God, he really misses his math powers sometimes. Unfortunately, Buck's attempt to will his abilities back into existence doesn't work. They don't miraculously come back, so he gives up and pulls out his phone to calculate it for him. Twenty seven people will be coming, and if he takes into account food allergies and personal tastes plus portion sizes, that should amount to— "May I sit?" Ramon is standing in front of him, carrying a metal tin.
tagging @captain-hen @antibyler @housewifebuck @eddiebabygirldiaz and anyone else who wants to do it :)

Buck & Eddie and Thomas & Mitchell: Wardrobe Parallels
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some of the clothes Buck and Eddie wore in 7x1 "Abandon 'Ships" parallel with some of the clothes Thomas and Mitchell wore in 2x8 "Buck Actually". Reminder, the ages Thomas and Mitchell were during Thomas' flashbacks parallel with the ages Buck and Eddie are now👀.
Tumblr media
I've completed two other posts on the parallels between Buck & Eddie and Thomas & Mitchell (linked here and here) but the more parallels I find, I've come to realize the show has ALWAYS been paralleling them since 2x8 aired. And it's not just one thing, it's multiple things like their clothes, their ages, their height differences, the one who always drives (Mitchell and Buck) along with the way they look at and touch each other. Also, after Bobby taught Buck how to step into a relationship in season 1 (which didn't work on AC by the way) it appears Thomas was the one to tell Buck about true love more than a year before he learned about not solely dedicating himself to the LAFD (Red) and four years before he was told not to live his life like everyone else or it'll go by in a blur during the happiness convention (Lev) because he had ALREADY MET the person (EDDIE) weeks earlier that he is going to spend the rest of his life with.
Back to the regularly scheduled program...
Before 7x1 aired, TM (showrunner) released the above still and I posted about the ugly ass shirt Buck was wearing (linked here) but I also noticed the jean shirt Eddie was wearing and I wondered why he was wearing it because IIRC, Eddie hasn't worn a jean shirt since 3x3 after the Tsunami.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After I watched 7x1, I found so many parallels, callbacks, hindsight and foreshadowing and to this day, I'm still finding more that pertain specifically to Buck and Eddie that I plan to blog about but today, I remembered the other person I saw wearing a jean shirt similar to the one Eddie wore in 7x1 and it was Mitchell in 2x8 when he rolled up on Thomas at the club 🤪😜💕. It was the night they met and if you haven't seen 2x8, you should watch it because IMO, it gave the audience a glimpse into Buck and Eddie's future as a romantic couple.
I have to admit Eddie wearing a jean shirt was JARRING because he usually wears softer fabrics for his shirts like when he wears Henley's, button-downs and t-shirts so there's that. Also, the fabric looked rough and coarse, so I tried to figure out why he was wearing it in the first place but I digress (I'm going to do a separate post on why I believe he was wearing it the same way I posted about the plaid suit he wore in 6x13 and the plaid flannel shirt he wore in 6x18 (post linked here).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to Eddie's jean shirt, Buck's multi-colored checkerboard whatever the "F" ugly ass button-down shirt/ jacket he wore has the same colors (white, blue, yellow/brown) as the shirt Thomas wore in 2x8 after he locked eyes with Mitchell from across the room while he was sitting at the bar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reminder, Eddie put his hand on Buck's shoulder in 3x3 (when he was wearing a jean shirt) the same way he did in 7x1 🤪😜🤪.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are other similarities in the clothes they wore but they were more so for Buck.
Since he's worn different variations of the infamous striped shirt he wore during the shooting, when I saw Thomas wearing a similar one, I had to look them up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
During one of Thomas' flashbacks, he was wearing a shirt that's practically identical to the one Buck will be wearing in a future episode in season 7 (I can't remember when OS posted the picture below but IIRC, they were filming 7x5). Now since the photo of him and Brenna Malloy is in black and white, it's difficult to tell what color the stripes in his shirt are but the size of them are practically identical to the ones in Thomas' shirt. Reminder, Thomas wore his shirt when he took a selfie with Mitchell on their Polaroid camera right after they bought their home in the Hollywood Hills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additionally, later in 7x1 when Buck went to talk to Chris about being a player, he was wearing his "looking for answers" uniform but his shirt was the same color as a shirt Mitchell wore after him and Thomas got married and they were celebrating Mitchell's birthday.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IMO, it's safe to say 9-1-1 doesn't do anything on accident and it appears every word that's said and every piece of clothing the characters wear are done on purpose. Therefore, since they've been paralleling Buck and Eddie with Thomas and Mitchell for 6 years, the question is, what does it all mean? CANON Buddie... maybe??? Hopefully???
Reminder, Buck was the one who saw the pictures of Thomas and Mitchell that fell out of Thomas' "Love, Life & Adventures" photo album (post linked here) and he was also the one Thomas told, "You don't find it son, you make it!" and isn't that what Buck and Eddie have been doing for 6 years, making it?
That's love! (post linked here).
Will Buck and Eddie FINALLY become a CANON couple in season 7 or will the show keep delaying the inevitable by shoehorning one-dimensional love interests in and keep wasting screen time? Only the showrunners, writers, actors and producers know the answer to that question.

Talking Buddie Language: Ep 6.13
Buddie nation how are we doing?!?! This episode really blew me and my expectations away. I loved it so much and I really think this was such a statement episode. They made a bold statement with their choices in both Buck and Eddie’s development and storylines going further, especially with Christopher. It was a fun and light episode to combat the previous few that have been on the darker side. I think this is my favorite episode to analyze thus far! So I’m just gonna get right into it.
Buck Can Do Math?
Before getting into the whole math aspect, I just want to say how good it was to see Buck and Eddie back to being partners and in sync once again. They walked in together. They moved so seamlessly at the same time, and it felt like no time has passed since the last time they worked together before Buck’s injury
Tumblr media
I love how one of the running jokes throughout the show has been that Buck cannot do math. Eddie told him point blank back in 3.04 You don’t know math.” So to actually see him do math so seamlessly in his head really made me happy to see!
B: How much did she drink?…So that’s a 100 mg. A woman her size should be having 14 mg. So she’s taken 7.13 more times than the daily allowance.
C: Did he just do math? In his head?
E: I think so.
B: Uh, was uh, was I right?
H: You are.
Tumblr media
I love seeing his teams' reactions to him doing quick math in his head because everyone is confused about his new capabilities, including himself. One thing I would like to note is Eddie’s little confused moment because he knows Buck the best out of everyone there. So even he’s confused as to this new revelation that he didn’t know existed.
Chimney with Denny // Buck with Christopher
The reason I am including this specific part is because there was a deliberate choice to include a scene in which we have Chimney talking to his best friend's child about their fathers. It's interesting to see how Chim is literally just like any other uncle figure talking to someone he can consider to be a nephew of some sort. It was not paternal in any way because they had a talk about how complicated Chim's relationship was with his father. Denny connected to what Chim had to say but the difference in their interaction versus every interaction we have gotten with Buck and Christopher is massive. And it was conveniently just before we got that wholesome Buckley Diaz family scene too to really bring forth the differences between their relationships.
Buckley Diaz Family Does Math Together
I am still screaming and crying happy tears over this wholesome family moment. This season, the writers are really putting in the effort to solidify the three of them as a family unit of their own. They are sitting once again in Buck's kitchen doing the most mundane family task, which is snacking and helping their kid with their homework while they chat. It is such a difference to how Chim and Denny's interaction went a few moments before this scene.
I love Christopher testing out Buck's new skills while Buck happily indulges him. He seems so happy to inform his father that his Buck now knows everything, to which Buck quickly assures that it's not everything, just math. Eddie's fond little "yeah, yeah" is so typical in other shows and movies where one parent is getting all the cool points from their child and the other has to make peace with it. No heat there, just Eddie being his usual self when he's around his boys.
I love how while Buck and Chris were having their little fun, Eddie pulled a Buck and was the one researching Buck's new abilities. A lot of time, when two people are together for a while, whether it is romantically or platonically, they start adapting the other's little habits and tells. In this instance, Eddie had adopted Buck's knack for researching and he is relaying his findings to his boys in typical Buck fashion.
The conversation about math is something I really found interesting and I have rewatched it multiple times already to uncover that there may be an underlying meaning here that isn't just about math. When Buck tells Eddie that it turns out that he "loves math," Eddie goes on to relay his findings on lightning survivors and newfound cognitive abilities they had.
Tumblr media
E: According to this, you can get new cognitive abilities after a serious injury to the central nervous system.
B: Which I uh, definitely had.
E: Hmm, but some doctors are saying it's not a real thing.
B: Uh, you think I've secretly known the square root of 162 all these years and just been holding out? No c'mon, it has to be the lightning.
E: Fair point.
Tumblr media
This conversation really reminds me of the one Eddie and Ana had in 3.12 about the horses.
A: There's a lot to be said for getting back on the horse but there's also some value in learning that you don't like horses.
Now just follow me for a second. If you fall off a horse and decide to get back on it to give it another shot, that can be ok. But if you decide that maybe horses aren't your thing, then it's also ok to just never get on one again. In this instance, if Eddie dated women and it didnt go anywhere, it's ok for him to try again. But it is also alright if he decided that dating women isn't what he wants and moves on to dating people he does want.
The same goes for the math of it all. Buck states that he likes math now, but he didn't used to like math before. And when Eddie calls him out, he is quick to explain that he didn't know math until after the lightning hit him. So let's say that Buck has only dated women his entire life. Maybe he is now realizing that he can be into other's that he had never considered before. Maybe this is his way of realizing that he has other options in front of him that he didnt think he did before. It makes sense if you also consider Buck trying to reach out to each woman he's ever been with to see if his performance was alright later on in the episode. Because maybe now he doesn't want to focus on women, maybe he wants to focus on a man instead.
Before diving into more of their body language, I want to talk about a concept we learned in one of my behavioral analysis classes. Mirroring is typically when two partners have such a chemical connection that they’re so in sync with everything that they do. Such things can be finishing each others sentences, or knowing what the other is thinking, even walking, talking and behaving in very similar ways. Mirroring is usually found to be the case with people who are in long term romantic partnerships because it takes a lot of emotional understanding to achieve it. This is important because mirroring happens a lot with Buck and Eddie even though they’re not in a romantic relationship. It’s the fact that they are so deeply connected on an emotional level that allows them to mirror each other in different ways.
One form of mirroring is body chemistry as well. Take into consideration Eddie's body position throughout the entire family scene. Our bodies tend to immediately shift towards the direction of our other halves because they’re like magnets seeking each other out. When you are attracted to someone, your body senses it and craves to be close to it at all times. That's why when you love someone, your body is always turned towards them. It's not even something people are conscious about because our bodies tend to have a mind of their own at times, especially when it comes to chemistry. It’s something that is very prevalent in Buck and Eddie’s relationship because they always seem to turn towards the other at all times.
Tumblr media
Eddie's entire body is turned towards Buck to the point where he kind of has his back towards his son. It’s also very open because he feels safe with Buck. He isn’t closed off or protecting himself. No, he’s just basically openly surrendering his body to Buck because he knows he will keep it safe at all times. Compare this moment to the one in Eddie’s own kitchen when he was breaking up with Ana. He had his arms folded in front of him, closing himself off to her. Such a massive difference between the two of them and the two of these idiots.
When Buck mentions liking the idea that he’s the guy who has the answers, he immediately looks at Eddie and then Christopher as if they’re the answers he’s been searching for all season long. Which if you think about it, they are the two people that make him the happiest and the most at ease. It’s ironic that Eddie is turned away from Buck when he says that so he completely misses the lovesick look on Buck’s face as he says it. Now this, in my opinion, directly foreshadows Buck realizing his feelings for Eddie soon. Just how he was venting to Eddie and Christopher in 6.01 about how the perfect options for interim captain were right under Bobby’s nose, well the perfect partner and kid are in front of Buck’s now. This moment indicates that Buck will come to find soon that the partner for him has been the one by his side for years now. That framing and the way his eyes are sparking tell it all.
Tumblr media
Husband's Who Con Together, Stay Together
I am so so here for Buck and Eddie putting Buck's newly found abilities to the test and gaining something out of it. I thought it was hilarious how Eddie was the mastermind behind Buck conning their teammates out of their money by doing some math equations. This shows once again how close these two really are because they're counting their money together and in the end it is just that, their money. Because they're a team and whatever they win, they share. You can tell by the way Eddie takes the bills out of Buck's hands, counts it then hands them back to him. It's nice to see them attached at the hip once again considering how most of 6a they were often paired off with others.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We see another example of a mirroring when they are walking side-by-side with the same steps. Seeing them walking together and laughing together is so nice and it really shows us how when compared to their interactions with their other team members it is so different to what they have together. We watched Buck and Hen be close for most of 6a, they got drunk together and went out with Denny together. But when you compare their scenes and their friendship to the one Buck has with Eddie and Christopher, it is once again vastly different. Which is why it was so pertinent to have them establish those other bonds with the other members of the 118, so that when we saw them close again, we would be seeing how different their relationship is than with others'.
The Winner Takes All The Steaks
The Poker Scene™️ will forever go down in Buddie history as one of their most iconic moments ever. There is so much that happened in the span of a few minutes that I truly feel like I hallucinated this entire episode because of it.
I don’t know how Eddie convinced Buck that he should dress to impress, but he surely succeeded. They were both dressed the nicest we have ever seen them. I love how when it comes to these two, there’s such an unconditional trust formed between them that they don’t have to question each other. Buck simply put on his best suit, his nicest watch and went along simply because Eddie asked him to.
The fact that they were wearing red and blue makes me absolutely feral!! I’ve talked about the significance of the red and blue theory when it comes to couples so I’m just going to link it right here if anyone is interested. But the costume department surely made a choice putting these two in red and blue when they were on their own outside of work, doing something fun. Especially in an episode where all the other couples were off on their own doing coupley stuff together.
The LAFD poker game was so fun to watch especially knowing what Buck is coming back from. I love the idea that Eddie would have made these plans to bring Buck to this poker game to not only test out his new cognitive abilities, but so that he can have some fun. Eddie, more than anyone else, knows how Buck really feels about his recent brush with death. So him bringing Buck to this game, dressed to the nines can either be because he wanted to test out Buck's abilities or simply because he wanted Buck to enjoy himself. Either way, I love how much Eddie cares about Buck and his happiness and well-being.
I want to discuss a couple different moments and how they are with each other. When they first enter and Buck sees Captain Mehta and Chief Williams, he is clearly shocked because whatever he was anticipating was definitely not a poker game with other LAFD members. When Chief says, "Let's see if he survives tonight," I think it's important to note how Buck seems weary of his place at the table and he immediately diverts his attention to his safe person, Eddie. Eddie is simply smiling at him in reassurance and even does his little turtle face in a way to tell Buck, you got this, I believe in you, which then immediately causes Buck to smile. See, they have that effect on each other. A simple look and a soft smile that is reserved for each other is enough to make the other feel safe and loved.
Tumblr media
The discussion about Buck's brush with death was clearly making Buck uncomfortable and it goes to show that just because he is back at work, doesn't mean he is magically over it. Him not being able to joke with the Chief and Mehta, when he was openly joking with Eddie and Chris at his loft indicates the lack of trust he has with them. He knows the Diaz boys and trusts them unconditionally. They're his safe space, his people and he can feel comfortable joking with them because he has also been honest with Eddie about his real feelings. It feels out of place to partake in the casual conversation of his death with people he barely knows. But Eddie, his person and support system is quick to correct Chiefl Williams when she mentions Buck being dead for 3 minutes.
W: So 3 minutes huh?
B: Uh what's that?
W: That's how long you were dead.
E: 3 minutes and 17 seconds.
Tumblr media
Eddie does not want anyone to diminish the 17 seconds Buck was dead for because he had to live in a world without Buck for 3 minutes and 17 seconds. Like I mentioned in my last episode's meta, Eddie is clearly not over this traumatic event. The way his voice was so broken when he told Buck he died in 6.12 indicates that he is not fully over it himself. And one can't blame him because he lost his partner and co-parent for that amount of time. He grieved Buck like he would a spouse or longtime partner. So for Eddie, diminishing Buck's death to only 3 minutes does not do his grief any justice because he was gone for an addition 17 seconds that Eddie will not be forgetting about for a long time. It's also interesting to focus on Buck’s facial expression when Eddie looks at him and says that because he seems kind of stunned. Almost as if he had no idea that is how long he was gone for or that Eddie knew it down to the very second.
Eddie's heated looks throughout that entire scene were something completely out of this world. I mean they're his typical fond heart eyes, but there was a clear underlying layer of lust and attraction in his looks. He was looking at Buck proudly but also like his new math skills were doing things to Eddie.
I’m sure it was so wonderful to see Buck so confident and smug while he kept winning hand after hand. Once Eddie stopped playing, he comfortably stood behind Buck and supported him while he won. On one occasion, after Buck won a round, the camera pans to Eddie and he’s completely flustered. He’s smiling and ducks his head in a cute shy way one does when they’re flustered by a crush. Eddie isn’t fooling anyone. We all know what he is and at this point I don’t even think he’s trying to hide it.
Tumblr media
Then we have the end of all the rounds where Buck has won big. When Chief asks him what he wants as his prize, I love that his immediate thought is to look at Eddie, his partner, before making a decision. This was such a bold and deliberate choice in having him do this because it signifies that these two are partners both on and off the field. Eddie was already looking at Buck before he turns around to him. You can see the actual change in Eddie’s facial expression the moment they make eye contact. His eyes are sparkling and his smile widens to his special Buck smile. It’s complete and pure love that’s translated on Eddie’s face. Simple as that. That’s a man in love and there’s no other explanation for that. Now whether his heart knows it and his mind still needs time to catch up, or he’s fully aware, we don’t know yet. But the eyes, they never ever lie and you can see the love shining from Eddie’s eyes.
Tumblr media
All of this to win some steaks? Yeah you heard that. Eddie and his little puns weren’t lying when he said this was low steaks haha. I love how Buck is exasperated but Eddie is smug standing next to him. He even diverts to his usual love language of teasing when he tells the Chief Buck’s humor wasn’t affected by the lightning. Once again, their shared looks are so heated especially when Eddie’s looking at Buck when he’s not looking back. The Chief telling Eddie to leave his human calculator at the firehouse was hilarious because it was his idea to even bring Buck down to play poker and smoke everyone there. But Eddie’s a possessive and smug bastard so he got what he initially wanted and that was for his Buck to let loose and enjoy himself while he enjoyed watching him enjoy himself lol. I got to say, Eddie looking at Buck like this when he’s not looking back is making me feral. There’s heat there and he’s so smitten with Buck that it really shouldn’t be a secret to anyone who’s in their close vicinity. So if only Buck were to just turn around and really open his eyes, he’d have more answers to the questions he’s been looking for.
Tumblr media
Jealous Eddie Makes a Return
I really don’t understand why Buck and Eddie were the only two that accompanied Hen with the call to the couple found in a compromising position but I’m not complaining. It was hilarious in my opinion and it brought with it a return of jealous Eddie!! Once again you see mirroring come to play when they are listening to the husband try to explain what happened during their sexy night. The way both their hands go up at the same time and how they tilt their heads clearly shows they are so in sync with one another.
Tumblr media
When the husband brings up the statistics he read about how 80% of partners are not satisfied, we have Buck immediately use his newfound abilities to calculate all the women he has slept with. I love how Eddie immediately cuts him off. You can tell he did not want to hear about Buck's previous partners because he was exasperated but not in his usual fond way. The way he looks back at Hen and shakes his head is very much, "Can you believe he was about to talk about that in front of me?" Oh Eddie baby, that is not how best friends react when their best friend talks about previous partners. Nothing about Buck and Eddie is platonic as we all know and I love every time jealous Eddie makes a return because there is no other explanation that the fact that he is in love with Buck.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Buck and Christopher Bake Cookies
It is very important that the show tries to distinguish Buck and Christopher’s relationship separate to that of Eddie's if they want to audience to believe Buck can be the perfect partner to Eddie in all ways. We haven't gotten a Buck and Chris scene together in such a long time so it was nice to see them together without Eddie. And they weren't just doing anything. No they were doing such a domestic thing which was Buck making them dinner and then planning on baking cookies for Christopher's class. That is such a parental thing to do and I love that the show is trying to really highlight the difference in their relationship with each other verses what we saw earlier with Chimney and Denny.
B: So when I cook, I like to measure out all the ingredients. It uh makes me feel like an actual chef.
C: That makes me your sous chef.
B: Yes it does.
Tumblr media
Now something about the wording of this really stands out to me. Sure they are talking about baking but like they also may be implying something else at the same time. @ktinastrikesback had a very good point and I have to agree with her. It almost sounds like if you were to take out the words chef, it can be Buck implying that sometimes he feels like an actual dad, and that makes Christopher like his son. That analogy fits in this scenario so I am sticking with it.
I also mentioned in another post how this scene with just the two of this is very important for the general audience so that they can start understanding the importance of Buck in not only Eddie’s life but Christopher’s as well. The way they tease each other and how Buck looks at Christopher so proudly and with so much unbridled love really does seem like a father and son to me. And now the whole storyline of the sperm donation makes sense because they’re going to try to distinguish the fact that biology does not make someone a parent as we saw with Denny and his biological father as well. Buck is just as much Christopher’s dad as Eddie even though he’s not biologically related to him. So I can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds but I do believe this is where it is heading. To Buck becoming more intertwined with the Diaz family and eventually becoming a romantic partner to Eddie and another parent to Christopher.
Tumblr media
Once again thank you to everyone who took the time to read this. I really think we’re on the way to Buddie going canon and I for one am very excited to see how the rest of the season plays out. We’re so close friends! If you’d like to be tagged when I post these weekly metas, please let me know here!
Thank you to the lovely @aa-lionheart for all the beautiful gifs 💜

hello!! for the super soft intimacy prompts: nuzzling into their neck or petnames, if either sparks something? 🥰
Buck had – purposely – gone into his relationship with Eddie with no expectations. Okay, well, there had been a few expectations – love, and commitment, and long-term partnership – but he’d had no real expectations about what the day-to-day would look like. This was Eddie’s first relationship with a man, after a lifetime of repression and denial, and Buck knew those things were hard to unlearn. He also knew that navigating a romantic relationship with someone you’d shared a deep platonic connection with for so long wasn’t going to be plain sailing either – every relationship had its teething problems, and being in love – big, grown up, forever after kind of love – wasn’t going to change the fact that there was going to be an adjustment period.
Except, well –
Eddie was more affectionate than Buck had imagined, right from the beginning. It’s not that Eddie wasn’t an affectionate man – Eddie hugged Chris, every moment he could steal a squeeze from their almost-teenager, and Eddie looked at the people he loved with the kind of fondness in his eyes that made Buck’s heart melt down into his boots – but it felt different, being on the receiving end of Eddie’s romantic affection.
“Hi,” Buck couldn’t help but laugh, wrapping his arms around Eddie’s shoulders. He’d barely closed the front door, when he’d gotten an armful of Eddie Diaz, his boyfriend burying his face in the crook of Buck’s neck, as though he’d been aching to do so all day. He might well have, Buck realised – this was the first shift they’d worked apart since they’d started dating, for real, and Eddie’s endless stream of text chatter had been the first indication that Eddie had really missed him.
This had been the second.
Eddie’s breath was hot against Buck’s neck as he replied. “Hi,” he mumbled, the bare beginnings of his day-old scruff sending a shiver down Buck’s spine as Eddie nuzzled his face into the crook of Buck’s neck, the loose t-shirt Buck had thrown on leaving the station easily giving way to Eddie’s movements, leaving Buck’s neck exposed.
Buck sort of wanted to melt.
“Did you miss me?” Buck hummed, running his fingers through Eddie’s hair, delighting in the fact that he could just – do this whenever he wanted, now. There was no more longing, no aching to take what he couldn’t have – Eddie was his, and had been for weeks now, and had been for longer than Buck realised, and Buck could take, and take, and take, and Eddie was proving himself oh-so willing to give.
“I always miss you,” Eddie hummed, pressing a kiss to the undersize of Buck’s jaw. “Baby.”
Buck was pretty sure his spine had started to physically, actually melt. “Baby?”
Eddie pulled back, slightly, cheeks flushed with warmth as he looked at Buck. “I was trying it out for size,” he shrugged. He gave Buck a questioning look, clearly waiting, wondering how Buck felt about it.
“I like it,” Buck couldn’t help the childish flush that spread across his cheeks as he replied, admitting just how much he enjoyed the petname. He’d never been sure on petnames – they’d never been a thing, with Abby, and with Taylor, the rare occasions she’d used them had felt forced, and insincere, the word crumbling to dust in her mouth as she forced an occasional ‘babe’ – but he was sure, with Eddie. “Baby,” he added, grinning as Eddie smiled, the kind of big, wide smile that made his boyfriends eyes crinkle at the corners, as though Eddie was so happy that he didn’t have enough space in his body to contain the feeling.
Eddie pressed a kiss to the seam of Buck’s mouth, both of them smiling too much for it to be much of anything. “I love you,” he hummed, the words free, and easy, as if it was the most logical, simple, sensible thing in the world to be in love with Buck. It was, Buck knew – because loving Eddie back was the easiest thing in the world.
And he got to come home to this – an armful of Eddie and a soft ‘baby’ – after every long day and bad shift for the rest of his life. Buck was a damn lucky man. “I love you,” Buck breathed in reply. “I always miss you too, you know.”

WIP Wednesday
I had so many plans to write the baseball AU during my lunch today but instead I started a Buddie married in Vegas fic and somehow wrote 1.3k in an hour. What can I say, I guess Ryan and Oliver all dirty in those 100th ep pictures got my writing mojo back.
“That’s a fair point,” Buck grinned and melted a little when Eddie draped an arm around his shoulders. “You’re buying though, mister money bags.” “The three hundred I started with is already safely back in the bank. I’m doing this weekend on just my winnings,” Eddie pulled out the wad of cash he’d won at the casino and grinned, his canines poking out as he did. Buck wanted to push Eddie against the wall of the elevator and feel those teeth on his lip, but he kept his hands to himself.  They did end up at the tiki bar that Buck had spotted on their way to the hotel. It was all neon lights and fake palm trees with the little poker computers taking up one side of the bar. Eddie headed to the bar to get them each a drink while Buck grabbed a table.  “I may have made a mistake,” Eddie said when he joined Buck a few minutes later, two drinks as big as Buck’s head in hand. “I didn’t realize they were sharing size, I just thought they were expensive because it's Vegas.” “Come on Eddie, how many child free weekends in Vegas are we going to get in our lives?” Buck said, throwing Eddie’s own words back at him with a laugh. He took one of the drinks from Eddie and took a long sip out of one of the curly straws that were poking out of the top of the giant tiki glass. The drink was fruity and light in a way that made Buck wonder how much alcohol could actually be in it.  It turns out the answer was a lot. He'd been a little tipsy when they got to the bar, but he had no memory of leaving or getting back to their hotel. The last memory he had before everything got blurry was of Eddie’s hand on his thigh again and his own hand on the bare skin of Eddie’s chest where Eddie’s button down had come unbuttoned at the top.

To 9-1-1: Just Take One REAL Step Toward Buddie. See What Happens.
Tumblr media
Hello fellow 9-1-1 buddie fans! I've been mulling over season 7 and a topic close to our hearts: the possibility of buddie sailing into full-on canon territory. We've heard people say the show can't give us buddie, using the unfortunate reason that it's because the larger general audience doesn't "see" buddie as a thing. That while the buddie fandom is huge, it doesn't compare to the size of the overall viewing audience, most of which don't even engage online in the fandom and might not know about the potential of buddie as a ship.
So that's the reason we may only ever get a love story that's written entirely in the subtext of the show? No, that's not good enough. I want to believe this show of ours is daring enough to let the general audience in on things and let them make up their own minds on the matter. Give the idea of buddie canon a fighting chance. Sure, the subtle nods and secret messages woven into the show might be crystal clear to us. But casual viewers probably don't pick up on those messages nestled in the nooks and cracks where buddie has been written up till now. We need to aim for more than subtext. And definitely don't settle for that color theory. If we are to get anywhere, we need to see them start spelling it out with explicit dialogue and storyline moments for the entire audience to interpret on their own.
By this season's end, the show needs to step out of the carefully crafted, unspoken undertones they always give buddie fans, and instead they need to explicitly spell out to the casual viewing audience, 'Hey there's a strong potential that Buck and Eddie might just be more than buddies (no pun intended). It has to be well done with clear hints leading up to it, of course, not just something in a single scene that's dropped on the casual viewers' heads like a piano. But it's more than possible to do, especially using flashbacks to buddie scenes and stolen glances throughout the seasons. Think about it. Eddie wrote Buck (and Buck alone) into his will; that's no small gesture! They can weave and layer these past moments into a current storyline, building up to a revelation from Buck and/or Eddie that feels like a "Whoa!" moment for all viewers (not just the buddie shippers), like, "I didn't see it before, but it makes sense. I can see those two as something more now."
And there are many different paths the show can take to get Buck and/or Eddie to this revelation. (I have my own idea of how it might go. The options are as diverse as all our fandom theories.) But how they get there isn't the important piece. What matters is that the possibility of something potentially happening between Buck and Eddie is CRYSTAL CLEAR in the narrative! Actually written into the dialogue and storyline, in a plausible way.
The show doesn't even have to commit buddie-end-game. They just have to give them a fighting chance by putting the possibility of it out there in the plain light of day, in front of the entire audience and see how it sticks. They could shift course in future storylines if it doesn't go over well, but my honest guess is that a majority wouldn't mind buddie becoming canon at all once they're exposed to it, especially if it was written/produced well; Oliver's and Ryan's on-fire chemistry is already there to carry it through. Many would come to root for buddie, especially over another new love interest introduced so late in the series that can't match all we've seen Buck and Eddie build together. Some viewers might not care one way or the other; they might just be in for the crazy emergencies each week. So then if we the remove this perception that buddie canon would not take well with general audience, what else is stopping it? I can't think of anything.... full steam ahead!
Now, am I prepared for the heartbreaking possibility that buddie might never go full canon in the sense we hope? That we may only ever get a love story buried in the subtext, if that's the best the show is allowed to give us? Sure, but it's much harder and so unfulfilling to come to terms with that outcome if the show never gives them a real chance at it in the first place.
Tumblr media
This long ramble is all simply to say that I'm not demanding that buddie become canon. I'm asking that the possibility of it becomes canon.
If nothing else, it would take the "delusional" and "clown" stigmas off of buddie shippers' shoulders because addressing the potential of buddie in the show tells the audience that hey, maybe there could be something there; they didn't just "see things that weren't there". I don't see this as such a heavy thing to ask for. Please let this make sense to everyone. It does in my head. lol.

3. Buddie
thank you! here's the prompt fill for "forehead kisses"
send me a soft prompt
[read on ao3]
In the end, they’re lucky. For a fire of this size, two injured firefighters aren’t uncommon, and no serious injuries at all pushes them close to “lucky”. Rodriguez suffers from smoke inhalation because his mask cracked when the building collapsed, but he’ll probably be allowed to leave in a few hours.
Buck took the brunt of it, again, and his sprained ankle, concussion and bruised ribs will take a little longer to heal, but aren’t life-threatening. They’ve still set him up in a room and have given him painkillers, enough of them to knock him out for a little while.
The rest of them had to finish out their shift – minor injuries don’t warrant an entire fire station taking up a hospital waiting room – but as soon as Bobby let them go, Eddie was on his way to the hospital with the order to text their group chat how Buck and Rodriguez are.
He spotted Rodriguez first, sitting with his wife while he breathed through an oxygen mask, and stopped to check in with him for a minute. Thankfully, he was fine though, so Eddie didn’t feel too bad about rushing on to find Buck.
Which he did, and now he’s here, sitting by Buck’s hospital bed and watching him sleep like a creep. He’s already texted the group chat and has promised to pass on everyone’s well-wishes, so now all he can do is wait.
It gives his mind time to wander, back to the moment a part of the building collapsed, with half of their team still inside. To the moment after, when Buck didn’t respond to Bobby’s command to radio in.
Not again, he’d thought, and it was only Hen’s hand gripping his tightly that kept him from running back into the building without a plan.
It took a horribly long minute for Bobby to give the okay for the evacuation team to go back in, and another one for them to locate Buck and Rodriguez, trying to climb over a pile of rubble. Buck had been helping Rodriguez, and it wasn’t until Chimney checked him over outside that he even admitted to anything hurting.
Eddie sighs and scoots forward on the uncomfortable chair. Buck has become much more careful, he doesn’t do reckless stunts, but the one thing that hasn’t changed is that he puts other people before himself. He’s selfless to a fault, which is probably a good quality – but Eddie isn’t selfless.
Eddie is selfish, and he needs Buck in his life. Needs Buck, full stop.
It’s pretty simple: he already knows what a world without Buck in it is like, lived in it for three minutes and seventeen seconds, and he’s not interested in it.
“You scared me,” he admits in a whisper. He wants to touch Buck but doesn’t want to wake him, so he settles for spreading his fingers on the mattress next to him, far enough until he can feel his warmth. Far enough for his pinky to almost brush against Buck’s.
“I know our job is dangerous. And that’s okay, we chose it. But I just– I wish it wasn’t us, for once. We’ve been at each other’s hospital bedside way too many times.” He sighs. It feels a little weird saying all this out loud when Buck’s asleep, but it’s also kind of like a practice run. One without the stakes. “I’m tired of it. And I don’t want to ever have to feel this regret again, of knowing I never got to tell you. So I’m gonna take you home, and I’ll tell you, and hopefully I won’t ruin the best thing in my life.”
It’s a risk – but even if Buck doesn’t return his feelings, Eddie feels pretty sure that it wouldn’t actually ruin their friendship. They’ve been through too much for anything to do that, he thinks. It’d hurt, of course– but that’s something he’ll think about once they’ve crossed that bridge. He shakes off the thought.
What’s important now is that Buck wakes up soon and is cleared to go home, and then Eddie will take him there. His home, not Buck’s loft, but he’s pretty sure that Buck will be on board with that plan.
He looks a little like he’s still in pain, even when he’s asleep, and Eddie’s heart clenches.
Buck’s gonna be a horrible patient, as always, Eddie’s familiar with it, but he’s probably gonna be an unbearable caretaker, too. Already, he can’t help but worry that Buck received the wrong dosage of painkillers, that he has an injury that’s somehow been missed and is causing him even more pain.
Buck frowns and Eddie pushes up off the chair, reaching out to smooth the wrinkles on Buck’s forehead out softly.
“I’ll take care of you,” he promises quietly, and can’t resist leaning just a little bit closer to press a lingering kiss to Buck’s forehead.
He pulls away to find Buck staring at him, and startles so badly he almost trips over the chair behind him.
“I thought you were asleep,” he gets out, and Buck blinks up at him, not asleep.
“Do that again,” Buck demands, his speech barely slurred.
“I–,” Eddie starts, and sits back down on the chair. “You’re concussed, and probably high on painkillers right now, Buck.”
“Doesn’t mean I don’t know what I want,” Buck says, stretching a hand out to Eddie in a clear request.
Dazed, Eddie reaches back and takes it, heartbeat tripping over itself at the smile that spreads across Buck’s face in response.
“And what’s that?” he asks, even though he shouldn’t. He should call the nurse to check Buck over, and then he should take him home, and then they should have a real conversation when Buck isn’t drugged.
“For you to kiss my forehead,” Buck says simply. Then he smirks. “And other places.”
Eddie laughs, startled. “Yeah?”
Buck nods seriously. “Yeah. That’s what I want.”
He squeezes Eddie’s hand and Eddie squeezes back, suddenly overwhelmed with the amount of love he feels for Buck.
“That’s good to know,” he says softly. “We can talk about this more at home, okay? Once you’re clearer in the head.”
“Promise?” Buck asks, and Eddie rubs his thumb across his knuckles, then bends closer to press a short little kiss there.
Buck’s looking at him, his mouth half open and eyes sparkling with happiness, and Eddie loves him.
“Promise,” he says.

If you don’t want to or can’t bind for whatever reason and you still wanna pass:
Layers. They add a level of confusion that distracts people from your boobs. Invest in some lightweight/moisture wicking button up shirts for the hot months. You can usually find used ones for a few bucks at thrift stores, and if you’re willing to buy new from outdoorsy companies like Eddie Bauer they usually have the most lightweight and durable ones.
Stubble. If you’re able to grow facial hair but still like the look of a clean shaven face better, using an electric trimmer or only shaving at night can give you visible stubble while still mostly looking like you shave. If you have visible stubble people are more likely to read you as male even if your chest is a bit big. Experiment with what works for you. If you can’t grow facial hair but still want the look there are tutorials online for how to make fake stubble with makeup.
Sports bras. I usually use tomboyX or champions brand sports bras. Compression bras or shirts for post surgery can also be an option to reduce the size of your chest if those work for you. Don’t wear them to sleep unless you have to though. Be responsible. If you don’t like your breasts moving around while you sleep, try wearing a looser fitting sports or sleep bra or wear a tight fitting t-shirt.
Loose fitting clothing. Not so baggy that it looks like you’re wearing a sack though. That can actually bring more attention to the shape of your body. Just a little bit big. Not skintight. If you’re overweight and/or have smaller breasts you might be able to go without a bra this way depending on your body type. Experiment with what works for you and your needs
Good posture/masculine stance. Gamer posture doesn’t actually hide your chest as much as you think it does. Go through life acting like you belong where you are. Visible nervousness and trying to hide your chest brings more attention to you. Move more with your shoulders than your hips, observe how cis men move, and act like you belong there. It’ll actually help more than a chest binder in most circumstances.
Kinesiology Tape. NOT for everyone and very painful if done improperly. But you can tape your breasts to the side for a few days at a time with skin safe tape. Please for the love of god do your research first though and do NOT use packing or duct tape.
Good luck out there kids and always listen to your body! If you’re hurting yourself, stop that method.

Fuck it *Saturday*
Thank you @exhuastedpigeon @wildlife4life @diazsdimples and @theotherbuckley for tagging me! Please consider this your tag for Inspiration Saturday.
A little late because I'm at the lake this weekend. Got *just* intoxicated enough to go swimming in the icy water with my dog.
Tumblr media
Anyway, here is a snippet from the next chapter of Any Other Way - RIGHT before something big is about to happen.
---
A little bit after lunch, the three of them are hanging out around the sloth exhibit, which is actually as fun as watching paint dry, considering the sloth is static somewhere, out of sight. They’re more or less just waiting, looking at leaves. Eddie would move on, but Christopher is insistent that they see a sloth.
“They’re so cute!” Christopher reasons. “Please, Eddie. Can we wait a little longer?”
Hard to argue with that, when Eddie is looking at the cutest tiny person in all of existence.
So they wait for the damn sloth. Eddie genuinely cannot imagine a less interesting animal.
Christopher is leaning against the railing of the enclosure while Buck and Eddie hang back a bit, chatting, and trying to ignore the fact that they may be stuck here for seventy-five years, waiting inspiration to strike earth’s slowest fucking creature to move its ass.
“Did you know,” Buck says quietly. “Sloths the size of, like, elephants existed eight thousand years ago?”
Eddie frowns at him. “Ginormous sloths?”
“Yeah,” Buck confirms.
“You’re full of it.”
“Am not!” Buck protests.
“That doesn’t even make any sense. How would they hang from trees?”
“I-I don’t know that they did?”
“Well, what else does a sloth do, Buck?”
“I don’t know! Walked around South America and looked cool as hell?”
Eddie opens his mouth to reply, but is cut off by the sound of Christopher gasping.

🐺The Lost and The Found Update!!🐺 10k
Chapter 5 is done or start from Chapter 1
Cover art by @ronordmann
Tumblr media
Eddie steps out of the cab, closes his eyes and breathes in deeply. The sun is warm on his skin, the sounds and smells wrap around him and say home, safe, love.
He only opens his eyes when a beloved and familiar voice calls his name then within moments he’s wrapped in arms that are soft warm and surprisingly strong for a woman her size.
“Mi amor you’ve grown so much!” His abuela sucks in a breath of air another familiar sound and he grins to himself, knowing what will come next. “You’ll be taller than me soon!”
He knows that too and has mixed feelings about it, before very long he will be taller than her which will be cool obviously but mark a certain change in their relationship he’s not really ready for in ways he can’t quite articulate.
As suddenly as he was embraced the person he loves best in all the world holds him out at arms length and studies him closely, brown eyes wrinkling at the corners.
“So handsome” she taps her cheeks and he bestows a kiss in the required spot. Noting that he really is almost as tall as her now.
“Come, it’s time for lunch and then you can meet the new guests, we have three right now.”
Something sad flashes across her face and she looks at him with a thoughtful expression and says, almost to herself , “Maybe having someone younger around will help.”
She doesn’t elaborate and Eddie doesn’t ask, just follows his beloved abuelita towards the ranch he spends his summer holidays at each year. It’s without doubt the best part of his year. And this year, now he’s thirteen he’ll be allowed to run on his own for the first time. Not that he doesn’t enjoy running with the pack but it’ll be fun to have a little more freedom.
Chapt 5 snippet under cut
A few weeks after the camping trip that left Buck upset and angry and constantly checking his phone things start to improve again. Buck hasn’t told him much more about his sister except she’s doing well wherever she is and then Chimney was back hand staying quiet too. Although, Eddie notices with some interest, he’s also spending quite a lot of time on his phone as well, smiling at the screen and taking more calls than he ever used to. Regardless of lingering secrets the tension that’s been in the air is dissipating.
However something is still going on.  Bobby’s been out of town quite a lot, taking more leave and he’s been extremely vague about where he’s been going. Buck’s being a bit more distant too. He’s been making excuses about why he’ll be round later than usual after work or not be round at all on some days off, he’s hardly seen Chris at all which is unusual. Maybe this is Eddie’s fault, maybe cuddling on the couch had been a bad idea. Is this Buck pulling away, setting some boundaries for them because he doesn’t want what Eddie’s trying so hard not to want.
If it is he can live with boundaries (probably) but Eddie doesn't like  to contemplate the idea that maybe Buck might have started dating someone. Surely he’d have mentioned it. The thought unsettles him. So he doesn’t think about it. He doesn’t think about Buck and someone else out at dinner, in a bar, laughing, fingers touching, kissing because if he does it leaves a bad taste in his mouth.
Considering how he’s refusing to contemplate it he spends a lot of time thinking about it. He wishes he knew if but dreads the moment he finds out that Buck is actually seeing someone. Even if he’s not right now it’s bound to happen at some point. After all he’s good looking, stunning really, kind, funny, smart and loyal. Who wouldn’t want Buck?
To distract himself from those kinds of thoughts and prepare himself Eddie decides that maybe he needs to build himself a life outside of the team, well outside of Buck specifically. Eddie doesn’t see dating in his own future so he might as well find something to fill the potential Buck shaped void in his world.
Maybe he should take up golf. The thought fails to excite him. Maybe tennis? He could take up wood work or… he could start running or hiking in the hills. LA’s not Texas but it’s ok and being out in nature again would be nice. Maybe that would help with the increasingly restless feelings he’s having. Running would be a good start at so he decides to ask Buck for some advice on the best running trails around.
It takes a day for him to remember to ask his friend for his favourite trails and Buck’s response is unexpectedly obstructive.
“Why?”
There’s a frown on Buck’s face and you might even think he was annoyed by the request. There’s an almost accusatory tone in his voice.
Having no idea what’s got Buck in a mood today Eddie ignores the tone but rolls his eyes anyway.
“Take a guess. Why do you think I want to know about running trails?”

Explanation of the theory under the cut:
Some fans have theorized that buck is going to move in with eddie by the end of season 7 due to being unable to afford his loft. The evidence they've used is as follows:
7x04
- Buck looking over his finances(?) In the beginning of the final scene. There still has been no general consensus on what this paper actually is and i've seen some people say he's doing his taxes and others saying he's looking at a phone/internet bill.
Tumblr media
- In that same scene, Tommy comes over and implies that his loft is expensive.
Tumblr media
7x05
- This news headline saying "Growth in US home prices" in the background of henren's meeting with Deidra from the adoption agency.

have a long tease from hoa eddie, where eddie's grossly in love with buck's big tits and honestly i can't blame him
Eddie sighs, turns around, and nearly runs right into Buck’s big, naked, hairy chest.  “Eddie—” “Where’s your shirt?”  Buck blinks. “I was mowing the yard and I got hot,” he replies, shrugging sheepishly.  He wants to bitch at Buck for mowing the yard, for taking his shirt off and getting grass all over himself, for inadvertently causing a scene because his big fat bleeding heart always seems to get him in trouble, but it’s Buck, sweet and stubborn and soft Buck, and he’s standing in front of Eddie, bare-chested and sweaty and a little breathless with blue eyes so large and wide and childlike, expecting Eddie to be upset when he’s not, not in the slightest, and all Eddie can do is smile and undo the snaps on his button down when he realizes Buck’s shivering, cold and clammy now that the sun has set. He has another shirt beneath, anyway.  “Grass is worse than sand, Buck,” he says, handing his shirt over. “Put this on. You’ll want to shower as soon as you can, so just stay the night again. I’ve got a load of your clothes in the dyer.”  Buck does as he’s told, pulling on the button down. It’s a size too small, dragging across his broad shoulders and barreled chest; the buttons stretch open over his torso, giving Eddie a peak of the curly hair between his tits, and his nipples are hard, tiny nubs beneath the fabric that draw Eddie’s attention, and he licks his lips. He’s seen Buck shirtless a hundred times before, sure, but he never realized how huge Buck’s tits really were until now, so big beneath his shirt they stick out like actual boobs.  He wonders how heavy they’d feel in his hands, if Buck would make pretty sounds when he squeezed the fat or pinched his nipples till they’re red and swollen.  Huh. That’s new.

WIP Wednesday
tagged yesterday by the lovelies @disasterbuckdiaz @wildlife4life @jeeyuns @try-set-me-on-fire @honestlydarkprincess @loserdiaz 💜💜💜
here are some of the many sentences I owe for money laundering au. the math problem itself and conversation surrounding it is borrowed from this moment on the off topic podcast
Chris groans. “I know mostly how to do it. I times 230 by 9 and then divide by 25 to get 82.8. Then if I take that away from the starting area, that’s 147.2 square feet.” He takes the paper back from Hen and scowls down at the question. “But… which of those numbers am I supposed to use? And then how do I find the dimensions? Do I have to keep the patio the same ratio?” Buck scoffs in his booth, shaking his head. Chimney winces as Eddie bristles and straightens up. While Chimney is reasonably sure that Buck is just amused that five adults couldn’t figure out what should be a relatively simple math problem, Eddie has always been a bit overprotective when it comes to Christopher. Eddie takes a few steps towards Buck. “Something funny about my kid’s math homework?” he asks, arching an eyebrow. Buck blinks a couple times at Eddie, like he can’t believe Eddie is actually addressing him directly. (Chimney doesn’t blame him; other than when he’s playing waiter, Eddie seemingly goes out of his way to avoid talking to Buck.) “Sorry, no, I’m not laughing at him. It’s just… that question is so frustrating, and it’s stuff like that that made me want to become a teacher.” Eddie falters, all his tough don’t-fuck-with-my-kid energy gone. “What do you mean?” “Why is the question worded so ambiguously?” Buck asks, looking genuinely annoyed. “Reducing by nine twenty-fifths could mean that you want your final result to be nine twenty-fifths of the original size, or are you supposed to take away nine twenty-fifths of the original size, or you could even argue the question is asking you to take away nine twenty-fifths of a square foot!” Buck’s on a roll now, waving his arms as he works himself up into a rant he’s clearly passionate about. “Like, why make a question that’s designed to trip him up instead of testing to see if he understands something? He clearly understands the concept of what he’s supposed to do, but not what weird answer the question is looking for!” Buck slumps back in the booth, taking a few deep breaths. He grins bashfully at Eddie. “Sorry. I can get a little carried away sometimes. It’s just stuff like that that made me hate school when I was in it.” Chimney watches, fascinated, as a blush starts creeping up the back of Eddie’s neck.

Steve Harrington hadn’t expected to spend New Years’ Eve of 1986 in a nightclub in Manhattan.
To be honest, he hadn’t even expected to be here.
Neither had you. And you didn’t even know of his whereabouts yet.
He’d been…lonely, after Christmas. Actually, he’d been lonely since the moment you left. Steve had known Hawkins before you and he’d known Hawkins with you but he had never prepared himself for Hawkins without you. Even when you called everyday and wrote letters every other week, there was still a gaping, you-sized hole in his life. Pictures of you hung up around his room; Polaroids and photo booth strips that dated back to the late seventies; records you’d brought him and drawn him; the silly, dumb notes you used to pass to each other in class. It wasn’t until you left that Steve realised his entire life was basically a shrine to you.
Christmas was great. Seeing you was great. It had been nothing but hugs and smiles and warmth for a week straight. The celebrations came and went and before he knew it, Steve was dropping you off the airport and hugging you goodbye. It stung a little less this time, know that he knew what to expect in the aftermath, but coming back to an empty house had killed him inside.
So, Steve started driving. And he kept driving until he reached the night club that he knew you’d be at. Even though it took him twelve fucking hours and fifty goddamn bucks on the door because he wasn’t old enough to be in here and especially not to be drinking. It left him wondering how much you’d paid to get in. Probably not a lot - even back in Hawkins, most bouncers just let you in. Why wouldn’t they? Maybe you were a bit haywire and crazy around the edges but you were also beautiful. One look at your smile, and the way you flashed your eyes with a stupid joke? You could get in anywhere. Steve Harrington was convinced that you were insane enough to open any door in the world. And yet, you stayed at the Hideaway. Every other Friday, with him and a pint of whatever shitty beer they had going. Because even though you get into any club in town, Steve was limited to wherever the fuck Eddie Munson could sneak him in. You’d never been one to stray away from Steve’s side.
So…yeah. Coming here had been unexpected and god, Steve hated clubbing. What was the point of a room of sweaty people and loud music? That was all he could think about as people thudded into him, one by one in time to a fucked up remix of a Queen song. He just needed to find you and then get the fuck out of here. He had nothing planned in terms of a speech, or even the faintest idea of what he was going to say. He just wanted to see you. That was all.
“Hey, man! What where the fuck you’re going!”
A sharp elbow came into contact with Steve’s ribs, and he turned around to see you. There was a scowl on face, then a look of disbelief, and before he knew it, you’d almost tackled him to the ground in a hug.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
Steve hit the ground with an oof, breaking your fall with his own body. “I just missed you.”
You grinned. “I missed you too. How did you even know where I’d be?”
“You mentioned this club a few times last week. Sorry for just turning up-”
“- never apologise,” you cut him off. Stumbling up, you shoved aside a few dancers and stuck out your hand to help him up. “I’m happy to see you.”
You pulled Steve into another hug, hands balling up into the back of his shirt as you did. Steve had always given the best hugs. For as long as you could remember, all your problems could be fixed with a hug from him. Bad grades, shitty boys, fights with your parents. They were all menial, but even now, after a few months in the big city, you were certain they could fix bigger ones too.
“C’mon, Steve,” you took his hand in yours. “Let’s talk properly outside. Yelling over this music is gonna kill me.”
Keeping his hand in yours, you pulled Steve across the club and towards the smoking area on the other side. It was amazing, really, the way you could just shove people aside with your elbows and a glare. You’d put the fear of God and/or yourself into him multiple times, so Steve couldn’t be surprised.
The smoking area wasn’t as busy as the rest of the club. There were a few stragglers standing around - some with tobacco, some smoking something a little stronger. On the other side, a drunk girl was throwing up. You didn’t seem phased at all. Maybe you came to places like this often. Even though Steve had never known you to enjoy big crowds or loud music.
“So, what do you wanna do?” Steve asked. “I saw a couple pizza places down the road. Maybe we could grab some food and then watch the ball drop, if you have a television-”
“- what do you mean?” you frowned. “I was gonna stay here. There’ll be a massive countdown and drinks and all my friends are inside.”
“Seriously?” he scoffed (however unintentionally). “I didn’t know you liked clubbing.”
Your face fell. “Don’t be an ass, Steve. Y’know I hate when you’re an ass.”
“Sorry,” Steve murmured. “I guess I don’t know what you enjoy doing at college. I forget it’s a different scene to Hawkins.”
“Hey, you’re good,” you smiled. “I’m just glad you’re here, okay?”
“Me too,” he returned the gesture, before glancing around the place. “So, what do you do here? Just…drink and dance?”
“Yeah, pretty much,” you shrugged. “It definitely looks awful from the outside but I promise my friends are fun. They’ve heard all about you and I’m sure you’ll love them.”
Friends. He’d heard about all your new friends; Jessica and Amanda and Tiffany and Daniel and…there were too many to remember. Steve knew that he was still your best, best friend, but it was nice to see you flourishing. It was clear they all loved you from the way their faces lit up. They gave Steve a smile too, and a it’s so nice to meet you! or a I’ve heard so much about you!
Still though, clubbing certainly wasn’t his thing. He hadn’t expected it to be your thing either, but from the way you were throwing back shots and dancing around with your new friends, it was clear that it was. You’d shoot him a smile every few minutes, or grab him for a silly dance. All attempts to make him feel included. It wasn’t your fault that Steve had so quickly gone from excitement in seeing you to feeling like he was a sore limb. No one was doing anything to make him feel like that. Nobody but him, of course.
It wasn’t until you approached the bar just before midnight that Steve followed you.
“Hey!” you gave him a bright smile. “Are you having fun?”
“I’m not not having fun,” he grimaced, but took your hands in his. “Look, I’m really tired and I just drove twelve hours without stopping and I really want to spend time with you tomorrow, okay? So I think I’m gonna head tonight, if you’re okay with me breaking into your apartment and crashing in your bed.”
“Oh, yeah,” your face fell a little, but you still forced a smile. “No, I get it. Take my keys, yeah? It’s the apartment building with red front door on the corner of 5th and 73rd. Apartment 48. My room is the first on the left and-”
“- it’s okay, I’ll find it,” Steve cut you off. He pressed a kiss to your forehead and gave your hands one last squeeze. “Happy New Year.”
“Happy New Year, Steve Harrington.”
Even though Steve had only had two pints of Budlight, he hadn’t considered that his alcohol tolerance was basically on the fucking floor. So, no driving for him. Just an obscenely overpriced yellow cab to take him a few blocks west. The streets of Manhattan weren’t exactly confusing, and maybe it was just dumb luck that your key fit into the first red door he found. Four floors up and two more doors in and that luck continued, right until he found himself managing to stumble into what he hoped and prayed was your apartment.
It was a cozy little place that you’d rented from one of your parents’ friends. He worked in real estate in the city and quite honestly, you’d thanked your lucky fucking stars when you heard the words subsidized and rent. Maybe it was a little bare, but you’d made it your own. Steve couldn’t help but smile to himself at all the pictures of him around the room.
Your room was just as cozy. Maybe it was a little funny that Steve’s head hit the pillow just as the fireworks outside went off - then he felt a bit bad. Had he ditched you? Maybe. But he had driven twelve hours just to unintentionally surprise you and he deserved rest. Even if you hadn’t asked that of him, even less expected it of him. Maybe he was just a little disappointed that you hadn’t wanted to spend New Years Eve sat in a pizza place with him. That was what you had done the year before.
He fell asleep easily, the traffic outside becoming white noise. It wasn’t until a couple hours later - just gone 3AM, according to the clock on your bedside table - that you came crashing and stumbling in. Steve was woken by the sound of your shoes hitting the floor with a thud, and then a little fuck! as you stumbled out of your clothes and into a big NYU t-shirt.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Steve suddenly sat up, barely catching you as you fell to the ground. “Why don’t you turn on the lights, genius?”
“I didn’t want to wake you,” you muttered. Were you mad? You seemed mad.
“Hey,” he frowned. “What’s up?”
“Nothing-”
“- we both know what when you say nothing that it’s definitely not nothing,” he reminded you. “Are you gonna spit it out or am I gonna have to go through every single thing I did and said tonight before we find an answer?”
You scowled at him, knowing he was right. Steve didn’t have fifteen years of riding the fiery dragon that was your personality not to know how to humble you.
“You said you missed me and that you came to see,” you muttered, folding your arms across your chest.
“...and that’s why you’re mad?”
“No!” you snapped. “I’m mad because you stayed for like…all of five minutes and then left! You didn’t even try to talk to my friends or to even stay and then I had to spend the last two hours defending you whenever they pointed it out!”
“Pointed what out?!”
“That you left! That you barely spoke to them or to me-”
“- I’m sorry that clubbing isn’t my thing!” Steve cut you off, barely hiding his audible groan. “I left so you could have fun with your new friends, okay? I didn’t wanna kill the mood.”
“Steve,” you sighed. “You weren’t killing the mood. Why do you have to say things like that?”
“Because it’s true!” he huffed. “You have a life here and friends and…things have changed. And I think I’ve been left behind.”
“How?!” you demanded. “How have I left you behind?! Because I went clubbing for one fucking night instead of dropping my plans when you turned up out of the blue?!”
“Because you said that things wouldn’t change! And they have!”
“Of course things are going to change!” you yelled. “We’re growing up! I’m at college, you’re working full time! Life fucking changes, Steve!”
“What if it changes and you forget about me?”
“Oh my god,” you let out another groan. “Steve, my life does not revolve around you. I love you and you are my best friend but can’t you just appreciate what we have right now rather than worrying about what we might be?”
Steve opened his mouth to speak, but you kept going instead.
“Maybe we won’t be friends in five years. Maybe we’ll be married with kids in ten or sharing a fucking grave in eighty but none of that matters if you just can’t appreciate what we are right now,” you continued. “Two people who love each other and-”
“- you think about us getting married?”
“That’s not what I said.”
“You literally just said it.”
“It was hypothetical-”
“- but you still said it-”
“- I also said that we might not be friends! Do you wanna bet which one is more likely to happen at the rate you’re going?”
You gave him a light thump to the chest. Steve caught your hand as it collided with him, large fingers holding your wrist. Your breath caught in your throat as he did, gaze catching his. The tension in the room had already been thick but in that moment, you couldn’t have cut it with a knife. He kept his grip on your hand, both your chests heaving with anger and frustration and rage and-
The first time you had kissed, it had been gentle. Experimental and a little toothy and maybe hungry after years and years of unpent teenage horniness, but whatever tension had built in the last three months alone made all those years look like nothing. This was desperate and deep, hands all over the other. Steve kept his palms splayed on your back, then on your neck, then on your ass, each time gripping you so tight, clinging onto you as though you might slip away if he didn’t.
You fell back on the bed, one hand tangled in his hair and the other gripping his shirt. It was hard to register when exactly he took it off. Actually, when yours came off too, for that matter. Steve Harrington, as it turned out, was a man who consumed all your fucking senses all the fucking time. Ergo, it was hard to think about anything other than him, or what his hands were doing, or that you were finally about to go all the way with your best friend of fifteen years.
It sort of clicked in your mind at some point that you probably should have stopped. It also registered in his mind. Still, neither of you did anything about it. You’d come this far now and it was hard to stop. Any consequences would be tomorrow’s problem.
Happy New Year.
