maybe when he was a baby he would often get so transfixed by the baby mobile on his crib and then when he was like a bit older (say 4 or 5) he was so fascinated with the newly bought wind chime on the balcony of the kim household 🥺🥺🥺 and mrs. kim just found it so adorable so she took a pic of him staring at it like… her baby really loved it so much 😖😖😖

When Namjoon was a baby...

Mrs. Kim: (from the kitchen) Seokjinnie is being such a good boy, eating his food! What about our sweet Namjoonie?

Mr. Kim: (smiling, walking in from the hall) I think he's still sleep---

Baby Namjoon stands in his crib, looking up in awe at the four fish shapes circling gently above him to a gentle version of Ong Tal Sam.

Mr. Kim: Aw, Joonie, do you like the fishies?

Baby Namjoon, seemingly understanding, giggles, squeals, and points up at the fish.

Mr. Kim: (tiptoeing back outside) Yeobo, where's the camera??

When Namjoon was a kid...

4-Year-Old Namjoon: (frozen in the driveway, staring up at the neighbor's wind chimes as they sway softly in the breeze) Ohh.

Mr. Kim: (from the opened trunk of the car) Namjoon, follow Jin inside with the bags, please.

4-Year-Old Namjoon: (blinking) Yes, Appa!

4-Year-Old Namjoon is in his favorite t-shirt, the one with fish and crabs and other sea creatures all over it. He pulls on it a little before he bends down to pick up the bags of groceries that he's momentarily placed on the ground, brings in the bags, and returns to the car, looking at the wind chimes again.

Mr. Kim: (following his gaze) Do you like those wind chimes?

4-Year-Old Namjoon: Wind chimes?

Mr. Kim: (taking the heavier bags) That's what they're called. Wind chimes.

4-Year-Old Namjoon: Because they make noise in the wind?

Mr. Kim: Yep, and "chimes" are a kind of instrument that make noise when you hit them.

4-Year-Old Namjoon: Is that the tinklies? Like, the tinkle tinkle tinkle sound?

Mr. Kim: (charmed) Yes.

Together, they both carry in the last of the bags. 6-Year-Old Jin is already unpacking things in the kitchen, humming to himself.

4-Year-Old Namjoon: They make all sorts of different kinds of tinklies though.

Mr. Kim: Well, that has to do with the way it looks. What might make the sounds different?

4-Year-Old Namjoon: All the different bars are different sizes?

Mr. Kim: (delighted) Yes, Joonie! That's right! The metal hits the different sized chimes, and that's why you get different tinklies! Very smart!

A few years ago...

Namjoon's wearing one of his favorite hoodies, which has a tiny, black, minimalist fish design in the middle of the chest. Mr. Kim walks him to the front door, as Namjoon gets ready to head to his new apartment.

Namjoon: I'll be back sometime this week to pick up more of my stuff.

Mr. Kim: Sounds good.

Namjoon: (toward the kitchen) Bye, Eomma, thanks for lunch!

Mrs. Kim: (hidden, in the kitchen) OK, drive safely, Joon!

Mr. Kim: Oh, before I forget --- Eomma and I found something when we went antiquing the other day.

He walks over to the table in the hall and picks up a small parcel. Namjoon unwraps it to find a set of wind chimes, with a bungeo-ppang sail dangling from the hidden striker.

Namjoon: Appa! That's really neat! Thank you!

Mr. Kim: Thought it'd go nicely on your balcony or something.

Namjoon: Aw. Appa.

He gives his father a hug, and Mr. Kim grins.

Mr. Kim: Text us when you get home, OK?

Namjoon: I will. Thank you for this. It's great.

About an hour later...

[KIM CHAT]

Namjoon (2:42 PM): It's perfect!

Jin (2:43 PM): What the fuck is it?

What does boongyong (or pyongyong) mean?

so it's a mix of two words

풍경 (poongyeong) means wind chime (or can be scenery like v's solo song is called 풍경)

붕어빵 (boong-eo-ppang) is this waffle-like pastry shaped like a fish that's usually filled with red bean paste. the wind chime has this fish hanging from it hence why it's called "bungeo-ppang wind chime".

so rn the windchime is engraved with 풍경의 풍경 (poongyeong of poongyeong - scenery/view of a windchime) but rm was asking if he should change it to say 붕경 - taking the 붕 (boong) from the pastry and 경 (gyeong) from wind chime to make a new word that would symbolize his fish bread wind chime.
