the summary provided my bakaupdates for the desperate march of love doesn't do any service to the manga. i guess it'd be hard to summarize it without giving anything away.
anyways, i thought ami was going to be an aromantic lesbian but she's just a weirdo. free her from the unfaithful allegations.

Here I am, back to my eternal habit of getting obsessed over obscure stuff whose fandom is either tiny or virtually non-existent...
This manga is probably what I would dub as ‘The spy camaraderie you never knew you needed’ (or that it even existed…)
But this was, in fact, a classic work and was really popular in Japan during its time. Just that for some reasons, the manga never made it to international attention - which is a real pity, because, seriously, this is good. Like really really really good.
And the bromance? 24k gold grade, I rest my case.
From Eroica With Love (Manga) Review
Tumblr media
Genre: Shoujo, Adventure, Action, Historical, Comedy
Author: Aoike Yasuko
Running Years: 1976 - 2012
Synopsis (taken from BakaUpdates):
"What happens when a gay art thief and a conservative NATO officer cross paths? Disaster, of course. Dorian is an aristocrat, a thief, and a hedonist; Klaus is a duty-driven espionage agent with no patience for fools.
Follow them as they chase each other across the globe -- from Britain to Baghdad, from Alaska to Alexandria, from Moscow to Madrid. Spectacular locations and non-stop adventures await!"
Length: Completed with 39 volumes
Translation: Ongoing at about 25 volumes - as of 2022
Note: Some sources may list this manga’s genre as Shounen-ai. Well, yes, “ai” (or romantic interaction) between 2 male characters does get depicted in this manga, but it isn’t between the two male leads. And the amount of “ai” you’ll get to see in the whole series is like… 1%. But before you conclude that this will make you want to / not want to read this manga, hear me out first —
Personal review:
➕ The Characters: Meet Earl Dorian Red Gloria, codenamed “Eroica”, a gorgeous, flamboyant, charismatic British thief with blonde hair so perfectly curled it could rival Candy Candy (this is a classic shoujo, what else do you expect?), whose purpose in life is to steal whatever suits his fancy, and causes a lot of havoc while he’s at it.
Meet also Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach, nicknamed “Iron Klaus”, an equally gorgeous, uptight, formidable German officer with black hair so perfectly straight it probably comes from a L’Oreal ad (have I mentioned this is a classic shoujo?), whose goal is to hunt down Earl Dorian, but somehow never actually catches him(?)
Tumblr media
(The 1970s — that period of manga art when guys are 10 times prettier than girls...)
They are both very likeable characters, each with quirks so special that’ll make you remember them in no time. Behind his facade as an art thief, Earl Dorian is an adorable, sympathetic man who values his teammates and has actual sensitivity for beautiful things. Major Klaus might first come off as an arrogant, vulgar man (but his vulgarity is really funny omg), but would you believe that he sings “Mary Has A Little Lamb” to himself in order to sleep? Awwwwww.
Surrounding these two men is a very diverse, colourful cast of supporting characters. With this being a comedy manga, almost every character in From Eroica With Love is funny as hell - so protect your stomach well, because the probability of you hurting it while reading this is transcendently high...
➕ The Story: Set during the Cold War period and against the backdrop of a vibrant Europe, the story tells the extravagant adventures of Earl Dorian and Major Klaus as they tail after top-secret intel, tear down evil conspiracies, take out wicked villains, tumble into life-threatening situations, all while trying to outwit and annoy the f*** out of each other.
With the title clearly inspired by the James Bond novel “From Russia With Love”, this manga, for the most part, is an endearing parody of the spy fiction genre. Do not be fooled by its shoujo label and its relatively strange first volume. The manga started off rather ridiculous (a trio of college-age ultra-geniuses with ESP abilities given to them by a mysterious man in the forest? What again…), but very soon developed into action-packed espionage with, surprisingly enough, a great deal of real-life historical, cultural and political references. Twists and turns await as we tag along with Earl Durian and Major Klaus chasing after each other (for various hilarious reasons) and dealing with international-scale events across the globe.
➕ The Art: Bearing what I would call 'signature 1970s shoujo art', From Eroica With Love’s feminine, old-style art may take some time to get used to, but will certainly grow on you. Yasuko-sensei certainly deserves praise for her masterful control over both character designs, scenery as well as action sequences.
➕ The Bromance: And, of course, the most important part of this review, the bromance.
Though it’s established very early on that Dorian is gay and always ready to woo whichever man that piques his attention, and that the manga is debatably considered shounen-ai, there's no canon romance between the two male leads (or is there?).
Starting out as enemies, and arguably still ending as enemies, these two’s dynamics are a real delight to watch. While they couldn’t stop blocking each other’s business and even occasionally get into physical fights, they also pull each other out of trouble plenty of times. There’s just some sort of undeniable camaraderie that hovers above their constant bickering and throwing curses at each other.
Tumblr media
(Why be normal bros when you can point guns and knives at each other?)
But beyond the bromance front, some may sense that Dorian develops feelings for Klaus along the course of the story, and one can’t help but notice that Klaus’ behaviour towards Dorian is, at times, significantly more tender compared to how he treats others. And then there are those yearning intense stares…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Dorian & Klaus: A tale of unresolved sexual tension that spans almost 40 years…)
The manga never dwells into fan service or has them go lovey-dovey, and even after its supremely long run of almost 4 decades, we never get an answer to the burning question "Will they or won't they fall in love?".
But that certainly doesn't stop the fans from zealously shipping them two together. Because, enemies-to-comrades-to-lovers? We simply devour that trope.
➖ The Negative: To some, the art may look slightly funny in later volumes, but I wouldn’t fault the author much for that. After all, by that time, Yasuko-sensei is already in her 50s-60s.
➖ And what was that first volume really - to deter people from loving this manga too much? ( ̄▽ ̄) An entertaining bunch of characters with pretty detailed characterisation (to the point that I almost thought they were the mains!) got introduced, only for them to never appear again after volume 1. Albeit, this may not exactly be a negative thing, since I can tell that most of us would prefer the screentime to be spared for our two lovely male leads.
All in all, I highly recommend this amusing series. So sad that the translation is only about ⅔ completed at the moment (╥_╥), and the English volumes are essentially out of print (I've checked, it costs minimum 400 bucks to obtain 15 volumes, yep, no joke). Talk about falling in love with a niche manga…

i saw a manhwa on bakaupdates by the name of “4th grade”, i read about 3 chapters of the raws and i can kinda sense that the little guy on the cover might be yandere, but i cant find any translations of it online.
despite that, i wanna ask, do you think hes yandere based off of the raws?
Tumblr media
This one is kind of weird. It's not translated, so through the power of google translate I had to do a quick go through the three or so chapters I was able to read. It's really weird I can tell you that, and it's hard to tell, but it does seem to have some semblance of a yandere... though disturbing since it's more or less a 4th grade student to a teacher.
The story starts out with the teacher looking at a baby (presumably a family members) and cooing over it. The relatives around her ask if she will ever have children, to which she denies, stating she wants to be a rich auntie instead. She seems to have moved into a new apartment with her boyfriend, and her boyfriend seems to be ready to marry her whenever she sees comfortable. She has also stopped taking her pills lately. We see that she is a teacher to a 4th grade classroom filled with students. One of her classmates likes to tease the teacher while the other Woobin, seems to have a very cold dead stare to him. As they all leave, the teacher talks to one of the students who had wet themselves in class. She tells him that if they need to go to tell the teacher next time to go. She gets startled when Woobin walks in. She asks Woobin if he likes her, and he agrees, much to her surprise. The next day, Woobin wets himself in class with an unblinking expression. The teacher brings Woobin to the bathroom and encounters another teacher (I think it might be her boyfriend) while there. Woobin changes his pants and gets teased during class. The teacher tells them to cut it off and apologize, to which the student does. While the teacher is having class, Woobin asks the guy who teased him if he was alone with the teacher. He says yes and gets punched ruthlessly in the face by Woobin. The teacher is forced to take both of them outside as a punishment and even asks why Woobin did that, considering that he is such a smart boy. He states that he wants the teacher to like him with his undead eyes. The teacher starts to feel really uncomfortable, talking to others about how weird he is, but the others brush it off as just having a crush or going through puberty. Even during the teachers conference, she cannot get the image of him punching the other student out of her mind. There is a bit of a hint that these incidents were simply the beginning of something horrible and that it caused her to possibly take her medication.
Woobin is a really weird kid. The story mentions time and time again that he's really smart, but he has a very... unchanging expression. Even when he wets himself in the middle of class, it seems as if nothing is happening and when he punches the other student, he has a pretty intense look on his face. I'm not sure why Woobin is so obsessed with this teacher (or at least seemingly), though the teacher does mention that he started to slowly "learn" from the other students, which is he wets himself in the middle of class. My guess is that he really does like the teacher (for whatever reason) and is trying to do things that will more or less gain her attention, whether it be peeing his pants during class or punching a kid that was alone with the teacher at some point.
I'm not sure if or when this will be translated, but that's what I can glean from it at this time.

i agree with everything you said about mtl & don't think that's too aggressive, there was a fan patch for a dragon quest game, i think, where it was just literally edited mtl and people called out those who were saying 'hey don't say 'edited mtl' is a patch, so if you're talking about that or if something you like had that happen to it that sucks so bad and you're right to complain
i saw that one on cdromance! i think it was some one off jrpg thing actually, but yeah i was like, huh? spike is allowing this?!
the only good thing about that project if im thinking of the same one as you is that the dude made the patch open source so anyone can come on and fix it if they wanted (iirc there were people who expressed the will to do so). hacking is a huge pain point for game fan tls since its either a lot of these older obscure games were heavy on spaghetti code (if its a sega saturn game for example then its practically a given) or the person with the specific skillset is just not available for set project. so what the person did was wrong, but i think at the very least having the tools released is such a good move that im almost willing to forgive the MTL. just barely.
what got me to write that up was actually me being ticked off at someone MTLing a scanlation and uploading it, and then seeing someone praise that person's passion. honestly, i don't respect it. if you cared in the right way, if you were really passionate imo, you would have gone searching in forums (bakaupdates and mdex forums i know have places for that) and discord servers for help. such avenues exist! of course it is easier said and done... one could even commission a TL, tbh this is a bit morally dubious and a lot of translators would not agree to it, but there are many who would, but if your aim as this person's was was to "raise awareness" then you're already doing something illegal by uploading it to a manga sharing site anyway. even worse if the translation is compromised... like i don't think morals are an issue for you at that point.

Find a Male Yandere Manga: Guide #1
#1. BakaUpdates Genres
• Pick a random manga (just pick ANY, does not matter) with Bakaupdates following the title
• Click on the manga’s Bakaupdate’s page
• Find the tags under “Catergories” and click on a random tag
• After the manga with the same tags are loaded, look underneath the manga you will find a hyperlink that says “Search by Genre”
• Bam, you can find literally any manga you want under a catergory
(Yeah I know there’s probably an easier way to find the Search by Genre but I don’t know how to find it lol. Also of course you don’t have to use Bakaupdates only either)
Now the real trick is, is to find a good tag. You can use the basic “Male Yandere” tag I always use but I assure you, I have tired out that page since I have been checking the same four pages for literally years. I think I’ve checked out most of them on my tumblr lol.
But here are some suggested tags to use: “Obsession”, “Obsessive Love”, “Posessive Lover/s”, “Unconditional Love”, “Twisted Romance”, “Obsessive Seme”, “Obsessive Uke”, “Posessive Seme”, “Posessive Uke”, “Stalker/s”, “Yandere Male Lead”, “Yandere Uke”, “Yandere Seme”.
Thanks for reading! And sorry if it didn’t help you guys out a lot, maybe you more experienced manga users can tell me how you find your male yanderes haha.
