For Kevin. 😥
After the funeral, everyone was milling around the manor, and Damian needed to be alone. He went to the study and looked out. From this room he could see the grave where his father had just been buried, next to the graves of his grandparents. And then he saw a man, sitting on the ground in an overcoat and hat. Curious, he opened the window, climbed out, and went to see who it was.
"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE, CLOWN? HOW DARE YOU?"
Damian pulled out the knife he kept on him at all times.
"I will kill you and finally be rid of you!"
The Joker turned to Damian, although Damian barely recognized him. His face was still the unnaturally pale white, but it was devoid of any makeup. Tears were streaming down his face. A face that Damian didn't remember ever looking so old.
"Go ahead, kid. My purpose is gone."
That gave Damian pause. "What kind of nonsense is this? Why are you pretending to mourn my father?"
"Oh, little bird. No pretending here. I've known your father for longer than you've been alive. I've been there for some of his darkest days. Ok, so maybe I caused most of them, but still. We shared those moments. I've seen him at his absolute best and his absolute worst. And I, maybe I alone know the real truth."
"What truth?"
"Everyone says, him too, that he was darkness and vengeance and the night and all that, but that was a lie. Well, maybe not a lie, but the real truth is that Batman was the light. He was hope. Oh, I know everyone thinks that's Superdork of Metropolis' shtick, but it's easy to be smiley and hopeful when you're super-powered by the sun. But when you slog through Gotham's underbelly, through its entrails, night after night, yet you still do it night after night, it's because of hope. You hope to make a difference. To make things better. Even if just for one person."
The Joker scrubbed his hand down his face. "But now that he's gone, the light is gone. My light is gone. My audience of one. So go ahead and slash my neck. Or go get that sword of yours and take my head. I won't stop you. Or go get Jason. I suppose he deserves the chance."
"It's honestly tempting. But I don't think it's the best way to honor my father."
The Joker stared at Damian for a bit, then sighed. "No, probably not. But don't worry, little bird. No more crime for me. What's the point now? I'll walk off into the sunset and you'll never see me again." With that The Joker stood, looking older than Damian had ever seen him. He looked to Damian to see what he'd do.
"Go."
The Joker nodded, looked back down at Bruce's grave, then walked away. Damian never heard from or of him again. He searched global news for reports of any Joker-type crimes, but there was nothing. He even checked the hospitals and morgues for suicides of unknown older, white males, but again found nothing.
There was one curious thing though. At the Batman statue at the Hall of Justice among all the flowers and cards and candles was an old, tacky, plastic flower pin. Damian picked it up, and it squirted water. Out of curiosity, he took it back to the Cave and analyzed the water.
It wasn't actually water after all. It was tears.

Batman AU
Batman tells Gordon that he doesn't kill. Thinking that it's a legality issue, Gordon deputizes Batman and gives him a gun and badge. Batman of course doesn't use the gun and just figures Gordon is stressed.
After Joker kills a Robin, Gordon starts to deputize the Batfam members.
Gordon: Next time you see that clown. Take. The. Shot. Rookie.
Robin (Tim, tiny ass 14 year old holding a 45 magnum): Umm... Yes sir?
Batman (plus all the Rogues, minions, and citizens of Gotham when Robin shows up with a 45 Magnum):

It is so funny to me that the Joker just hates Dick Grayson the most out of everyone in the batfamily.
And realistically, it's probably because he was the one who "took Batman from him and changed him to be softer", but I like to believe it's because Dick is funnier than him. One time, when he was Robin, Batman smiled when he made a joke or a pun and that just never happened when Joker made a joke (because you know, Dick was never a serial killer) and he is still salty about it and will be for the rest of his life.
