My interests

So, since noone asked, im going to list my current interests:

thunderstorms have been a lifelong interest of mine, i dont know much about them but i just love what they are, when i was young and a thunderstorm came over i would grab a blanket and sit outside on the front steps of the house to watch it, i love the atmosphere, the subtle wind and the change in clouds, the way everything gets darker before it passes again, i love the way you know a thunderstorm is coming before it actually appears, and i love the rain that follows it, its refreshing. Even now, at 33, when a thunderstorm is coming i find myself running round the house looking for the direction, to get the best view.

Space things - again if you ask i know very little, but i love space things, planets, stars, moons, galaxies, the possibilities of what else is out there, how little we have actually discovered. I love photos of space stuff, its mesmerising.

asian dramas/music - this has been an interest of mine since i was a teenager, back in 2005 i would sit in my room until the early hours, watching japanese dramas on fishy streaming websites, sometimes with questionable subtitles. I lost sight of this interest while i was living my life and growing/raising my family, i picked it back up in 2020/2021, japanese, chinese, thai, korean dramas and music, its like an escape from reality for me, i can dive into the storylines, forget my own problems for a while, i can destress and live in the fantasies the dramas present.

Anime - again as a teenager i loved anime, 90s animes like sailor moon, inuyasha, pokemon etc, like asian dramas i also lost sight of these while i was (i suppose trying to live normally?) working towards a career, building a family, i picked this back up again and am working on making my watchlist longer. (but i also find anything with multiple seasons and hundreds of episodes puts me off, i lack attention span to get through them all!)

books - ive always loved reading, multiple genres, multiple styles, ive gone from real life stories to romantic comedies, fantasy and magic, to full on harem style, then i went on to mangas, manhwas, webtoons etc, if i can read it, pictures or not, i will. Im currently obsessed with grandmaster of demonic cultivation (chinese novel), i have the books and have started collecting the manga/manhwa (however they call it) version. The chokehold those characters have on me is unreal.

BL's - now this one is a hidden hobby of mine, only a select few people know just how deep i am into this, most people IRL dont know i watch at all because im worried what people will think. Now if your unfamiliar with the term it stands for boys love, mainly series, though i read mangas too, theyre another way of escaping reality, the storylines can differ from typical hetero series, for most of them i can switch my brain off and just enjoy, i dont have to think about anything. For those questioning my motives, no i dont fetishize them, i watch an equal amount of hetero shows too, and i watch GL's, im not strictly into one genre, if a storyline catches my attention ill watch it.

Most of my interests center around escaping reality, books, tv etc.

I just wrapped up the @izzyandlouie sparked #21daysofNathan on Instagram and thought it might be fun to recap it all in one place. Tumblr seemed like the best place to do that, so here we are.

Day 1: Movie I’d like to see Nathan in.

I'd Ike to see Nathan Page and Essie Davis take the roles originally played by Peter O'Toole and Audrey Hepburn in How To Steal A Million and I'd like master 'ship builder Tony Tilse to direct.

Day 2: Favorite Jack Quote

It's actually a favorite Shakespearean quote from Enobarbus in Antony and Cleopatra: "Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale Her infinite variety. Other women cloy The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry. Where most she satisfies." Nathan has a very...um...moving delivery of the line.

Day 4: Favorite Nathan role

Look, Nathan is a very talented actor and I have enjoyed his work in roles that I may (or more likely would not) have discovered had it not been for his work on Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. But it was Jack (and Phryne) that compelled me to get on an airplane exactly a year ago today (Posted Feb 16, 2021) to fly to the other side of the planet just to see a movie. It was this character and the other characters of the show that compelled me to send a lot of money just to invest in something that mattered to me on a deep level. It's Jack and the characters surrounding him that inspire me to create every day. Thank you Nathan Page for breathing life into Kerry Greenwood’s and Every Cloud Production’s Creation.

Day 5: Best Hair Moment

Nathan is what I consider a "hair actor". I was unfamiliar with the term until my cousin and cousin-in-law who are also working professional actors used the term to describe the male spouse. Essie is as well (though she did wear a wig in CoT). The hair helps embody the character. Between roles, it is just hair, but in the role, the hair is a character in its own right. When the Miss Fisher Movie Kickstarter kicked off, we were presented with this character. Nathan who was just as desperate as we were to get the band back together. He was as far from Jack as we'd ever seen him. We wanted... nay... NEEDED... to return Nathan to a Jack-state, post-haste. It. Was. Genius. I'm not sure who actually dreamt up the marketing campaign, but I developed a serious marketing crush on new Marketing Director Drew, imagining he had a hand.

I don’t mean to be cynical about the whole thing. I’m sure it wasn’t as calculated as all that, I just think someone had the smarts to see they had an opportunity, and seized it. As someone who has been involved in marketing to varying degrees for decades, I was deeply appreciative.

Day 6: Favorite Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries Moment

Soooo...this is may not my very favorite... but y'all... how can I pick? Seriously? This is pretty close to the top "reasons I admire Nathan" I edited the scene to only show his face journey because that's what I'm in love with here. The dawning realization, the perturbation, the wrestling for control of his emotions, thinking he has it together until he looks at her again... 😙👌 Perfection. Master class. Bravo!

Day 7: Favorite Nathan Quote

Mine is this little story from 6 questions with Nathan Page from the nathanpagetheactor.com website. Nathan is talking about both delightful and disturbing food he's consumed in his travels. Go watch the whole thing. It's a thing of joy... But it's the "Eelgut" that gets quoted on the regular around the house.

Day 8: Character you’d like Nathan to portray

I would like to see Nathan as a high ranking Peacekeeper Officer who has some sort of secret personal agenda but is who is morally ambiguous. Mostly, I want more Farscape, and I want more opportunities for Nathan and I think he'd enjoy it. Plus I'd like him to work more with Tony Tilse who must be involved in this reboot. Space needs more Australian accents. Bring back Farscape!

Day 9: Favorite Fan Art

It's probably not cool to choose my own fan art, but Nathan is probably my favorite fan art subject. He’s just so... interesting looking. Of the multitude of drawings I've done over the years, these remain my favorite. Hedgehog Jack was a particular favorite collaborative work borne out of a conversation with @scruggzi back in the day.

Day 10: Book you’d love Nathan to narrate.

Our civilisation is awash with data hosted by corporate third parties. While most of us are old enough to remember an age before digital streaming, our youngest generations have lived their lives in the palm of Big Tech. They have entwined themselves with these companies in such a way that any attempt made by the wider community to threaten Silicon Valley’s empire will be resisted by devout technological serfs.

Wikipedia was a shiny new thing when I was in high school. Our teachers had two objections to the rise of Wikipedia.

The first was a (perfectly reasonable) fear that it would make our inquiring minds lazy. With everyone receiving instant answers, there was no opportunity to stumble over the complexities of a topic. Wikipedia left classrooms in danger of forming monotonous opinions.

Which brings us to the second concern. Wikipedia was given authority over the truth because of its usability, not quality.

Conceived in an open-source environment, it invited thousands of users to post entries about topics which other users then edited – collaborating to create a vast network of information that quickly outstripped the dictionary cabal. With enough people interacting, it was assumed that the truth would win out. Generally speaking, that was the case.

It later became obvious that absolute freedom over information in a publishing environment had a few flaws – namely – humans could be real little shits when they set their minds to it. A common muck-up day activity involved editing the school’s Wikipedia entry with the level of hormone-induced humour that you’d expect.

As usual, politics ruined everything.

They claim that these measures are in the interest of public safety, but Big Tech is not a medical institution, nor should it be allowed to silence the necessary feedback to protect its political and corporate friends.

Under their heading ‘Our Expanded Approach’, Twitter detail their intent:

[…] Using a combination of technology and human review, we will begin enforcing this updated policy on December 21, and expanding our actions during the following weeks. We remain focused on helping people find credible health information, verifying public health experts, and updating our policies in an iterative and transparent approach.

If anything goes wrong with a Covid-19 vaccine, don’t expect to hear about it.

Who are these public health experts allowed to dominate the market of information? Absolute authority demands intense scrutiny. Let us run one example.

The second and most concerning manipulation of information by the WHO relates to the long-held definition of herd immunity. Our medical understanding of herd immunity has not changed since the arrival of Covid19. What has changed is the effectiveness of the vaccine in relation to the grand promises made about it by politicians who used its existence to initiate financially devastating lockdowns.

Both of these releases are by the same department at the WHO (the emphasis in red is mine for clarity):

9th June, 2020: Herd Immunity is the indirect protection from an infectious disease that happens when a population is immune either through vaccination or immunity developed through previous infection. This means that even people who haven’t been infected or in whom an infection hasn’t triggered an immune response, they are protected because people around them who are immune can act as buffers between them and an infected person. The threshold for establishing herd immunity for Covid19 is not yet clear.’

13th November, 2020: ‘Herd Immunity’, also known as ‘population immunity’, is a concept used for vaccination, in which a population can be protected from a certain virus if a threshold of vaccination is reached. Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not exposing them to it. Read the Director-General’s 12 October media briefing speech for more detail.

The second statement from the WHO erased the natural phenomena of herd immunity – which remains the dominant method by which human populations overcome disease – and replaced it with an absolute mandate to vaccinate. The true definition of herd immunity survives with people who remember studying it prior to the edit and anyone in possession of medical books that cannot be so easily manipulated.

It doesn’t help that these institutions in charge of reality are headed up by some of the world’s shonkiest people.

When asking questions about why the WHO has acted inconsistently and bizarrely concerning China’s role in the pandemic, it is worth noting that China played an instrumental role in putting its Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, into power. His ascent was vocally opposed due to positions held within the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) – an ethnically-based party that has been the dominant force in Ethiopian politics for nearly thirty years. Tedros served as Health Minister despite the regime being recognised as a serial offender against human rights.

In an open letter against Tedros, it was noted that inside an eight-month period, eighty thousand Ethiopians were imprisoned in gulags run by the TPLF where they were tortured for holding a different political opinion. Party officials stole billions from public and state-run projects. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, the current Prime Minister as of 2018, later admitted that the regime Tedros served under was essentially a terrorist state.

Tedros’ own actions were called into question regarding his handling of a Cholera epidemic – which he incorrectly renamed as ‘Acute Watery Diarrhoea’ even after Cholera was confirmed. A letter signed by the Amhara Professionals Union suspected this inaccuracy related to Tedros covering up a public health crisis to protect the tourist industry – an action which prevented aid organisations from intervening. The open letter further accused Tedros of actively marginalising health care treatment based on ethnicity, resulting in a disproportionate mortality rate among the Amhara people.
