A few more photos from Bethlehem Steel because it’s an incredible relic of American industrial and labor history and one of the coolest things I’ve ever laid eyes upon. The size of it is astonishing. And walking through it is such a profound and melancholy experience. It feels like walking through the graveyard of some lost civilization. And in a sense that’s exactly what it is.

An interesting read about Bethlehem steel company. Its a shame the government didn't step in and save American steel like they did with the automotive industry. The rust belt might have been much less severe and depressing than it is today.
Fun fact: “by 1943 the company was constructing one battleship per day”

Funnily enough, after the show in Philly last year, Greg and I spoke about the Bethlehem Steel Plant in the Lehigh Valley. (He grew up in Cincinnati, and his father was an employee of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.) A sight he likened to “the gates of hell.”
