Currently making my way through Beware of Chicken and I just love The Lord Magistrate with all my little heart. He is a master chess player who has been informed that the man (child) he will be playing today has a history of violent crime (not really) and a loaded gun (ok yeah that one’s true).

I’m not done talking about Beware of Chicken, actually. This book has a thruple that is only subtext by the skin of its fucking teeth and only subtext if you have no critical reading skills (character A referring to character B as his wife while character D tells character A and C to have a nice time on their date. A making a comment about ‘it’s nice to come home after visiting other hen’s coops’ and then realizes it sounds like he went and sleep around while B and C turn to ‘give him the gimlet eye’)
Like, the only reason I call it subtext and not just textual is because the text does not explicitly state that the three of them are in a romantic relationship and I know how the reading comprehension on this webbed site is.
And yet there are no jealousy arcs, no double dealing, none of that bullshit. Just wholesome polyamory.
Then it has another thruple explicitly stated in a flashback where we get this one ancient emperor’s whole life story from his POV.
And to FURTHER make my poly little heart beat in paroxysms of joy, the main character (Jin) has the best most badass wonderful wife (Meiling)…and Meimei will not stop flirting with the cultivator woman (Xiulan) who is repeatedly described as the most beautiful woman anyone has ever seen. Like “You are always welcome in our bed, Xiulan,” and “I’ll get you in my bed one day!” And just a constant tease and flirt while Jin just sighs and allows random strangers to think Xiulan is his wife so they don’t treat her like a piece of ass - which leads to his own wife getting mistaken for the maid and she never gets mad about this, just eggs them on. She is GUNNING for this poly triad or at LEAST to have a second partner herself.
Meanwhile, Xiulan is SO ace-coded (to me). Possibly also aro-coded, but I’m not gonna stake my life on it. She just rolls her eyes at Meimei or she and Jin team up to tease Meimei, and then she snuggles with her in the bath while they take an opportunity to ogle Jin together. This is the slowest of slow burns and if something isn’t canonized I’m eat my phone. Everyone who meets them (who knows Meimei is the wife) assumes Xiulan is his concubine - even her own father!
I do not often see this much positive poly representation in such a wholesome book and I squeal every time it happens. There is so much more but I want y’all to read it yourselves.

Beware of Chicken - Casual Farmer
Tumblr media
This was a fun read, one I’ve been slowly making my way through whenever I need a palate cleanser. The humans (mostly) have their slice of life tale in a xianxia world, and the animals do a lot more as far as action goes, protecting the fa ram from intruders. In a genre that is normally very serious, its refreshing to have some light satire. as a treat.
Its totally bonkers that I made it through this many stories in a month but I kept picking up good things! I read so many good things!! I think my favorite of the lot was Mother of Learning, I can't stop thinking about it and where this arc left off, I have to find out what happens next.

Hello
It's been a while, tumblr.
I made an account to see if anyone has made Beware of Chicken fan art and I am distressed to see NONE on here?! Tumblr, what are you even good for, then? :'(
Oh well, might as well poke around and see if there is any #litrpg presence on here at all. I am dying for more community around the genre, since since I read litRPG/GameLit books/novels every day!
Give me a poke if you have an account revolving around/heavily-about any of the things in the tags if you see this post! I'm going to try to list off some of my favorites off the top of my head, but just a few because there are far too many to actually list.

I have just experienced the unparalleled sadness of realizing you've run out of story to read. The next update to beware of chicken isn't gonna be until the end of March.

Beware of the Forceful chicken
When a Star Wars fan wakes up in the body of Anakin Skywalker, he is shocked and excited. He has always dreamed of being a Jedi and using the Force. However, he soon realizes that the Jedi Order is not what he expected. They are rigid, dogmatic and blind to the corruption of the Republic. He also senses a dark presence in the Force, one that seeks to manipulate him and turn him to the dark side.
He decides to take matters into his own hands and escape from the Jedi and Sith madness. He uses his charm and skills to access the Jedi Temple archives and learns about Ossus, an ancient Jedi world that was abandoned after a cataclysmic event. He steals a ship and heads to Ossus, hoping to find a peaceful and secluded place where he can study the Force and live a simple life.
However, he soon discovers that Ossus is not as deserted as he thought. He encounters various creatures, dangers and mysteries on the planet. He also meets a friendly and curious chicken that follows him everywhere. He names it Cluckers and adopts it as his companion.
Together, they explore Ossus and learn more about the Force. He finds ancient holocrons, texts and artifacts that teach him different aspects of the Force. He also develops his own style of using the Force, one that is more balanced and natural than the Jedi or Sith way. He learns to heal, create, communicate and even fly with the Force.
He also makes friends with some of the locals, such as a tribe of nomadic scavengers, a group of peaceful farmers and a mysterious hermit. He helps them with their problems and learns from their cultures. He also faces some enemies, such as raiders, pirates and bounty hunters who want to exploit Ossus or capture him.
He realizes that he has found a new home on Ossus, one that is more fulfilling and meaningful than his previous life. He also realizes that he has changed the course of history by leaving the Jedi Order and avoiding the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire. He wonders what will happen to the galaxy without him, but he decides to focus on his own happiness and freedom.
He lives a long and happy life on Ossus with Cluckers and his friends. He becomes a legend among the locals, who call him the Master of the Force. He also becomes a legend among the Jedi and Sith, who wonder what happened to him and fear his potential. He dies peacefully at an old age, surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, kindness and balance in the Force.

The thing about science is that we always think of the cool shit. The giant spaceships, the cars, the guns. What most people gloss over is that most of the time, unless you’re super passionate, science is super god-damn boring.

My husband has been reading Beware of Chicken to me, bit by bit each night and it is all I can do - all i can do - not to read ahead. Not to DEVOUR this entire series in a single day. It brings him so much joy to see my reactions when he reads Beware of Chicken to me and i love to snuggle up and listen...but no book has tested my restraint the way this one has. We are on volume four which is still being posted chapter by chapter on Royal Roads and I dread the day we catch up and have to WAIT.

Note
Hunter’s chicken stares at him with beady little black eyes, unblinking. She knows he has chicken feed in his bucket and is waiting to strike.
Hunter stops dead in his tracks catching the chicken in the corner of his eye and turns his head to meet her eyes. He freezes for a moment staring back at the bird, bucket still in hand as he watches her trying to figure out why she's staring at him like a predator watches prey. "Wh-what are you doing? Why are you looking at me like that?" he places one foot backwards and leans back a little as though he were already expecting to be chased by a mad chicken. "LOOK! A DISTRACTION!" Hunter points in a random direction, then launches the chicken feed over the ground and makes a run for it.
