The head of the Methodist Church in Nigeria, Samuel Kanu, has been abducted along with two other priests on their way back from a church event.

The men were travelling on a major highway on Sunday in the south-eastern state of Abia when they were kidnapped, local police told the BBC.

It is not clear who is responsible, but separatist groups frequently carry out abductions in the region.

Police say they have launched a rescue mission to find the clerics.

"His Eminence, Samuel Kanu, is a peace-loving Christian leader" whose abduction "came as a shock", the Very Rev Nosakhare Nosayaba of Abuja's Methodist Cathedral of Unity told the BBC.

"We are holding an hourly chain-prayer for him and the other priests he was kidnapped with. He was actually preparing for his retirement later this year."

Kidnappings, often for ransom, are common in many parts of Nigeria.

There has also been a resurgence of attacks by armed gangs, including Islamist militant groups in the north, as the country prepares for a general election next year.

Much of the unrest in Nigeria's south-east region stems from separatists who are demanding a breakaway state.

The government blames the Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob) movement for many attacks in the region, which Ipob denies. But the group continues to enforce sit-at-home orders on Mondays, which are usually preceded by attacks on Sunday evenings to scare people into complying.

However it is not known who abducted the clergymen on Sunday, and a number of recent violent attacks in the country remain unsolved.

Recently a local MP was kidnapped by unknown gunmen. His headless body was later found.

In April, a male and a female soldier who hoped to get married were beheaded when they travelled to the region to inform their relatives about their planned wedding.

In a separate incident on Sunday morning, two people were abducted when gunmen entered their home in Lafia, Nasarawa state, near the capital Abuja. One person was shot dead during the attack.

We want to first congratulate you, for your outstanding performance in revamping the ailing economy of Niger Republic; months after taking over power from your corrupt predecessor. Your country’s economy and standard of living, are among the fastest growing in Africa. Do not relent in your efforts.

Many believe it’s expedient for persons like you, to come on board to salvage the mess, some African leaders are in. We have military or civilian coup. In Africa, military takeover of government in some countries, can be justified. Quite a number of African Presidents are very corrupt, and stooges of colonial masters. Civilian coup occurs, when election results are massively rigged and manipulated, to remove the real winner of presidential election. Then, the looser is declared the winner. It happened in Nigeria in the year 2023 Presidential Election. Civilian coup should be more condemnable than military coup.

Sir, we appeal you use your credible position as Niger leader, to address the menace of your nationals in other countries; especially in Nigeria. Peasant Fulanis recruited from Niger Republic, and some other African countries, are being used by Nigerian Northern elite, to wreck havoc in the Middle belt, and Southern part of Nigeria. They are brain-washed to shun western education. Instead, they are engaged in primitive Jihad war of killing people, and dispossessing them of their ancestral lands. These disguised murderers and kidnappers, use nomadic cattle rearing to cover up their atrocities, and heinous crimes against our people.

You can redeem the reputation of your country, which has being dragged to the mud, by recalling and rehabilitating these vulnerable ones. Build ranches for them to breed healthy, well nourished cows, with modern facilities. Build more skill-acquisition centres. Make education compulsory, at least up to primary school level; even among the nomadic herdsmen. These will go a long way to reduce drastically, the exploitation of herdsmen and other peasants, by evil politicians and elite. Illiterate and ill-educated war mongers ruling in Nigeria, have no regard for human lives. They shed blood to pursue their selfish, political ambitions.

Why can’t they use their own children and close relatives, to commit those atrocities? Religious hypocrites! Their children are in the best schools overseas; living ostentatious lifestyles there. They arm Fulanis of poor background to, destroy farmlands, rape women and girls, as well as engage in kidnapping and ritual killings.

A civilian dictator in Nigeria, handed over power to his puppet in 2023, who lost in an election. It was a well, orchestrated civilian coup, calculated to cover up his mess, while in office. He was the architect of Fulani herdsmen terrorism across the country: apart from the treasury he looted with impunity. He encouraged the influx of Fulani from Niger Republic and other neighbouring countries for sinister motives. He armed them with automatic weapons to invade communities. Also, he massively recruited them into the Military and Police. He sent a lot of them to fight our people here in Biafra land.

This impostor, colluded with some governors in Biafra land, especially in Imo State, to recruit Fulanis (many from Niger) into Ebubeagu Vigilante group, along with pipeline vandals from River State, to fight Biafra agitators. We urge you to call them back home. You can give them a much better future. They are facing a very formidable Biafrans, who are highly determined to defend themselves against their sworn enemies. We urge you to carry out thorough probe, on how your nationals are being recruited and used to carry out heinous crimes in Nigeria, in the name of Jihad war. They are sponsored to involve in kidnapping and ritual killing business. You must have heard how a Methodist Church Prelate in Nigeria, was kidnapped with his two colleagues. Ransom of 100 million naira was paid to their abductors, who include your citizens from Niger Republic. It happened in Umunneochi, Abia State in Biafra land in the year 2022. They are also actively involved in kidnapping and ritual murders in Abia Cattle markets. Recently, Abia Governor ordered a raid in the place; and many decomposing bodies were discovered there; some of them beheaded. Imo: Simon Ekpa funding criminals in Orsuihitukwa, ESN has no camp there – IPOB knocks Army, others

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Wednesday said criminals operating in the Orsuihitukwa, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State, are funded and recruited by Finland-based self-styled Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa. IPOB explained that the criminals are not members of its Eastern Security Network, ESN, but infiltrators recruited and funded by Ekpa. Emma Powerful was reacting to a viral video of the Nigerian Joint Security Forces dancing at Eke Ubahi Eze market at Orsuihiteukwa, Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. KANU MAY REGAIN FREEDOM BEFORE DECEMBER, SAYS OHANAEZE

The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has expressed confidence in a possible release of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, before the end of 2023, following ongoing confidential negotiations between the body and relevant authorities.

As a result, the body has urged all pro-Biafran agitators to stop hostilities against the Federal Government for 40 days,  starting from October 31.

In a statement on Sunday by its Secretary General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze said it was imperative that all pro-Biafra agitators exhibit discipline during this crucial period in order to ensure progress in the ongoing negotiations.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the preeminent socio-cultural organisation representing the Igbo people, is pleased to announce its foresight regarding ongoing confidential negotiations that indicate the possibility of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB, regaining his freedom by the end of the year 2023.

“However, in order to facilitate progress in this matter, Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges Biafra agitators to uphold a ceasefire for a period of 40 days, abstaining from any offensive aggression commencing on October 31, 2023. It is imperative that Biafra agitators exhibit discipline during this crucial period.

“The primary challenge we currently face is ensuring that the Biafra agitators cease all offensive aggression for 40 days, as this will pave the way for the desired solutions to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly believes that engaging with all relevant authorities through diplomatic channels remains the most effective approach to achieve the desired results.

“We implore Ndigbo to exercise patience and understanding throughout this critical period. We acknowledge the pain and hardship endured by the people of the South-East since Nnamdi Kanu’s incarceration, and as custodians of our land, we assure you that positive outcomes are anticipated after the November 2023 Imo State governorship elections.”

Ohanaeze said it was confident that Kanu’s release would “undoubtedly serve as a resounding surprise to the South-East people,” while appealing to Nigerians whom Kanu might have offended to embrace forgiveness and prioritise the greater interests of Nigeria.

Fate Of Failed State

Nigeria a former British colony has been known to be the gaint of Africa, but the reality is that nigeria is a disgrace to Africa. I am going to give a detailed explanation to why Nigeria is a failed state and what will befall anyone who choose to die defending a dead unity in that Nigeria.

Nigeria and her government is still under the control of colonial powers ,what we had in Nigeria was a flag independence but economically, politically, socially even mentally we are under the direct supervision and control of the imperialist, British, USA and France .

The British and west in general prefer to give aid to Nigerians rather than allow them control their government, elect their idea leaders and control their economy, they keep interfering into our politics because they clearly want to be in control of our vast resources. They continue to use the media to hide the truth , the silent every voice that speak , the stop every leader that will cut of the ties they have in Nigeria or any other African countries.

USA and Canada was a former British colony and they are doing well economically, they control their politics and economy. Why then is Nigeria with vast resources like crude oil, gold , Californium still very poor and backward.

When you (Britain) came to Nigeria in 1861, they came with Bible and a gun , they saw our crude oil and our heritage , they find different set of people with different ideology and cultural differences,but they put us all together and called us Nigerians before then our fathers fought against this white man decision of amalgamation.

By • Olalekan Fagbade MASSOB denies accusing two Governors of betraying Ojukwu The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has denied accusing Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and former governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, of betraying the late Odumegwu Ojukwu. The group made this known in a statement signed and made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, by the National Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, on Thursday. MASSOB, however, warned a former leader of the group, Ralph Uwazuruike, to stop using the name of late Ojukwu to seek favour from politicians. The statement said, “We disassociate our Movement from the sponsored news publication made by one Chris Mocha, the spokesperson of Ralph Uwazuruike’s led Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, alleging that MASSOB accused Peter Obi and Rochas Okorocha as betrayers of late Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. “BIM has no right to call any Igbo man a betrayer, because he (Uwazuruike) is the real betrayer of all that late Ojukwu stood for, in his quest for Igbo emancipation from Nigeria’s domination. “MASSOB still have the records of how Uwazuruike betrayed the entire Biafra nation when he held meeting with Al Mustapha, Fredrick Faseun, Asari Dokubo, Alhaji Yerima Sani, Alhaji Ibrahim Abacha etc, to stop further regional agitations for self determination at his house at Owerri.” The statement, in the same vein, urged the Labour Party to always verify statements relating to MASSOB before making uncomplimentary remarks against the pro-Biafra group. “MASSOB has never condemned or spoken evil of Labour Party or their presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, unless Labour Party is declaring political war on us, and we will resist them,” the statement noted.
