So I just finished the first part of season 4 and let me tell you…

Before I start let me tell you that I’ve decided that I’m going be doing much more of Faithie’sCorner where I tell all my theories on all kinds of different shows and movies. so be on the lookout for more after I watch Obi-Wan and when pt. 2 to S4 comes out.

Also should I do episode by episode on my opinions on here as well? Would you guys be interested on my ideas?

Oh my gosh 😱 S4 pt. 1 was so good!!

So If you haven’t seen my old post about Billy I suggest you read that one first, because this is going to go into big detail on it and on a few other things that I have talked about before on my page. If you’d like to read it, you can read it here.

So as I have said before:

I know I’ve talked about how mad it makes me that we will very possibly never get to see Billy get his character arc and see him be good kind sweet loving Billy {which I still FULL heartedly believe we will be seeing him come back in S4}, but I had a thought today when making my parents watch the show with me.

And this:

I think I was wrong before, in a way he did already have a character arc. It may not have been a big one… but it was still a hint at one {hence why I think 100% we will be seeing Billy alive again}.

And like I did say before:

In a way we did get to see him start to change, we got to see it when he looks at Max for that split second then decides to save her and her friends from the mind flayer. If he was such a monster then why in the world would he have done that?

I also said before hand:

But I 100% think the body that got killed was NOT Billy…

And again you can go read the rest of what I said and I still fully hartley believe that at some point we can see Billy come back. I mean if Hopper can why not Billy to? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m still connected to the idea that the body we saw “die” wasn’t really Billy’s Body, but a cloned version.

I mean in a way we did get him back. We had the scene where Max gets taken by 001, but that’s NOT the real Billy. I guess you could also assume that Eddie (who I came to love) is a lot like Billy.

Which made me question why didn’t they just keep Billy in the first place? Like they killed him off just to give us another very Billyesk character…

Nope that did not make me happy at first, especially as a huge Dacre Montgomery fan I hated it with a passion, but as I said I came to absolutely love Eddie to death.

Just for the Love of God please don’t let it be that they are “replacing” Billy with Eddie. Cause I like them both. I feel like Eddie is just a nicer crazy yet sweet version of Billy that we didn’t get a chance to see. I feel like if Billy had the chance he would have eventually been a little like Eddie if that makes sense at all?

Even though we did in a way get Billy back in more ways then one kinda… He still was essentially “evil” because it was 001 pretending to be him. Therefore it wasn’t the real Billy we all know and love.

So that’s not the Billy we all want to see. We want to see him and his little “shitty” sister be the cutest brother and sister ever. I whole hartley still believe that they way he treated her was the only way he had to showing her he did care even with the facade that’s he didn’t.

I still think we have an amazing chance at getting him back. Also it’s been revealed there will be a season 5! And most likely a season 6!

🤷🏼‍♀️so you never really know. I still 100% believe the real Billy is just trapped in the upside down.

I also believe that Steve will be the one to find him, especially seeing as where we left off with Steve and Nancy they’re still simi stuck in the upside down as well because 001 stopped Nancy…

I have a huge feeling that if Steve doesn’t wake Nancy up they will get stuck again only making them have to go find another way out and what do they find along the way?

They find Billy… and it’s a shock to both, but they both quickly decide that with how he helped they too should help him get home to his “shitty” sister.

Anyway I still 100% think this is a possibility, but I swear to everything in me that if the Duffer brothers don’t give Billy more of a story…

Don’t get me wrong I LOVED the scene where Max openly talks to him…

But wouldn’t it be even cooler if he does come back and when he sees Max tears just comes to his eyes.

While she’s confused at first never really seeing Billy be emotional like this, but then he rushes over to her and picks her up in a hug and whispers into her ear: “I heard you. I heard you and I want that to so badly…” as he just hugs her close while refusing to let go cause that’s his baby sister.

Like BRO!!!! The feels!!! 😩 it would be such a beautiful and cute reunion and I so badly want to see it.

So if the Duffer Brothers refuse to let me have that cute Billy and Max moment again all I have to say is:

Robin's Part in The Plot

What I can’t figure out is Robin’s part in the plot. Okay, in season 3 she undertakes Billy’s function and is cutting down and criticising poor Steve half her screen time (and also she turns him down with his romantic interest at the end). Besides, she acts as a smart kid who gets into trouble because she is bored.

I have a feeling the Duffers take a character and split it into two as they did it to Steve and Billy previously. But in this case it looks more obvious since Robin resembles Billy so much it hurts: curly dark blond hair, blue eyes, rock attributes and tons of sarcasm. Whereas Billy and Steve have not a lot in common, except their popular jock status and daddy issues. So if you don’t look closely, you’ll never notice those two used to be the same character originally.

So, Robin. What is she to do in season 4? I guess she will get a crush on her band-mate (in an unrequited way) and get along with Nancy, it’s more or less obvious. What else?

The Duffer Brothers don’t seem big fans of charactonyms, but since we became aware that the plot of season 4 pivots around Easter, I can’t help but think all the time that ‘robin’ isn't just a name, it also means a bird which pulled a bur out from Christ’s crown of thorns.

Unwillingly it brings to mind that long-suffering frame from season 3, and I start to wonder if it was really filmed accidentally.

Also, look closely at the word formed by the remaining part of the slogan on the poster half-shielded by Billy: reworks (note the third person singular or the plural of a noun). And if you ask my opinion, I'd say I doubt it could have been an accident. There are not so many accidents in TV-shows. But it’s just my personal opinion. I don’t push it. I’m just sitting and watching what happens next.

Not to hurt anyone’s feelings tonight but I think the Mindflayer targeted Billy specifically because he had no support system in Hawkins.

The Upside Down goes after Will Byers twice. His friends are there to save him both times without fail. Will has a caring, determined mother who won’t give up until she finds him. He has an older brother who’s invested in his growth and supports his interests. Will has an entire group of like-minded, tight-knit pals who refuse to accept his loss twice in a row. They fight tooth and nail to keep him away from the Mindflayer’s control and they WIN both times!

By the second possession the whole squad knows about the Upside Down. They know��“he likes it cold”, they know strong emotions can help bring the victim back into control, and they know how to take out Demodogs.

But Billy Hargrove? He doesn’t have anyone.

His Mom is gone, his Dad is a piece of shit, and his stepsister can’t see past the vitriol and frustration to notice that he’s the same as her - hurting and afraid. He’s brand new to the town and the Midwest (which has a very different culture than the West Coast lemme tell you). His friends only stick around because he’s top dog at school and his fangirls think he’s hot but aren’t invested in him personally.

(If I get into the queer-coding aspect this will become a ten page paper. I’m saving that for later.)

As a psychic monster, the Mindflayer likely understands that the kids are afraid of him after the fight with Steve. It knows that there’s no way they’ll try and save Billy the way they saved Will... and the Mindflayer is right. As soon as the Party figures out that Billy has been possessed, they immediately start planning how to defeat him.

Even after the sauna test, when they know Billy isn’t totally in control of his actions (because Will only feels the Mindflayer’s presence after Billy apologizes and begs Max to help him) they rally for violence. That’s all he knows from every side, violence, and nobody is there to say how loved he is or how important he is. He doesn’t have a Mike or a Joyce or a Jonathan.

The Mindflayer knew that Billy Hargrove had no one to save him, and that’s why he was chosen.

Y'know, now that it's been nearly two years since S4 dropped, I still think Billy has a significant chance of coming back. A lot of my core theories are still in play, the payoff has just been delayed.

My main concern is S5 will be so jam-packed full of stuff that none of it lands :p lol

Theory: the car crash in the winter of 1976 (Part II)

To sum up: my theory is that Joyce had a son with Lonnie, Jonathan, but then she left him because he's an a-hole. She always liked Hopper, so they finally got together and had two kids, Will and El. I think it's possible that the story of Agent Orange is true and maybe that's why Jopper's kids were targeted by Brenner ("Sarah" died in the lab, after all) But then, in 1976 something bad happened and Hopper and El were separated from their family (see Part I). Love this Father and daughter missing.

Not sure if Brenner was involved, but there are hints that Lonnie was. He's heavily paralleled to Billy's father, and in Billy's memory Neil believed that his wife was cheating on him. The first thing Lonnie asks Jon is if Hopper is still chief, and the moment he thinks that Will is dead, he "comes home", calls Joyce babe and tells her that she needs him. I think he didn't just want the money, he wanted his family back. And Will wasn't part of it.

A possible hint in The First Shadow that Lonnie did something to Joyce and her family is the mention of him stealing the baby from the nativity scene. Will has always been associated with Jesus...

It's also interesting, and could be evidence of different timelines, that Will is associated with fire but El is associated with cold water. Maybe Will died in the fire in one timeline, and in another one El drowned in a lake? Maybe they were both in danger but their parents could only save one of them. They both say many times that they can't breath, which is also a parallel with Sarah, so I think it's clear that something bad happened to both of them.

Did Will burn alive? I hope not but... In 3x08, when Joyce hugs him, he says that he can't breath, he's suffocating. In Fred's vision, he sees a coffin with the grandfather clock that has the name Williams engraved on it. And in 4x04 we see Billy/William's tombstone.

El sees Heather being dragged underwater, after Max opens "the floodgates" (Owens mentions them when he explains the anniversary of the event) If Billy is paralleled to Will, Heather is paralleled to El, so maybe this scene shows us what happened to El in the past.

The vanishing of Will Byers and The case of the missing lifeguard are connected.

And when she goes into Billy's memories, there's a transition from the car crash and El in the water. Car in a lake -> El separated from her family.

Hints that Lonnie might've been involved in the car crash

In Lonnie's very first scene, there's a little bike in his house, and Jon checks his trunk. Not a good sign.

After Joyce breaks the wall with the axe, the only thing she sees is her car. Possible hint that after the car crash one of the children was taken away from the family by powers. Time powers... Tears in the fabric of time and space...

That night, when Lonnie arrives, the first thing we see is his car headlights.

Then he closes "the door" that Will used to communicate with his mom, with a hammer. As he talks about the quarry and Joyce freezing to death.

In 2x06, after they bring Will to the lab, after he screams that he feels like he's burning (Hopper is screaming too, but they're using water! Always water and fire) there's a transition to Steve's car, and the song in this scene is Hammer to Fall. In 2x09 Jon mentions Lonnie and the hammer they used to build Castle Byers.

In S4 there's another connection between Lonnie, cars, time loops and the resentment between him and Joyce. When Jon says that the cycle never ends. We see part of the conversation through the broken window of a car.

Other hints

Billy and Max

They both have many parallels with Will, and most of their scenes together take place in the car. Billy's car is actually the first thing we see.

They always fight in that car.

Billy tries to run over the kids. This reminds me of the night Will vanishes

And the scene of Billy's possession IS a parallel to the 1x01 scene. He and Will both run off the road

In 3x07, Billy almost burns alive in his car

In S4, Max confesses that she had wished her brother to die in a car accident

In 2x05, Terry shows El a police car chase!

This scene is so important. I'm working on a new theory, but I'll just say that Terry (or whoever is communicating with El) isn't just randomly switching the channels. She's telling a story. Henry's story and how El got involved.

In fact, she shows El a blonde woman ("Virginia") then the Family Feud score: 91 and 64. Two tens. 10-> mirror of 01. A donut commercial with many identical donuts (ref to the lab kids), the commercial of a Computer Supercenter (the lab/Nina) and then a police chase and someone pouring coffe into a cup. I think this is a huge hint at a car crash that involved Hopper, and what happened after, the blood transfusion that made El a lab kid. I don't know why else Terry would show El a police car chase tbh. And then, in 2x07, Kali calls Hopper policeman, many times. A clear connection with the car chase, imo.

When El looks for the source in S3, the first thing she sees in the eye of the Mind Flayer storm is Billy's damaged car. Since Billy is paralleled to Will, this could mean that the source of everything that happened to their family started with a car crash and powers?

I'm also thinking about this shot in the Vecna game. It looks very similar to a shot in Benny's diner in S4. Jason in a white outfit, like Henry, Christmas lights, a police car, the W and E, and another car with something that looks a lot like the Mind Flayer, looming over it.

And don't forget Joyce and Hopper escaping from Grigori and the engine of the police car literally exploding. And where do they find another car? At a Seven Eleven convenience store, where they meet clerk Rich (like Richard Brenner?) Also, Alexei is with them. A guy in a white outfit, and with a name that is the russian variant of Alex, like Alex P. Keyton, one of the characters played by Michael J. Fox, mentioned by Steve when he and Robin talk about time travels in Back to the Future.

There are many other hints, but I think these ones are the most relevant.

El was able to revive Max with basically cpr because she wasn't dead dead, just in cardiac arrest, but that still constituted win conditions for Henry to open the gates.

what if I told you the basis for all Henry's curse gates isn't death but specifically the stopping of hearts

you might say that Hawkins FELL APART while Max was WITHOUT HEART.

telling his mom about the wave being 7'+ was so important to Billy that bringing up that detail is literally what stopped him in his tracks from ending the world

wait I wasn't 100% serious about this part when I started screenshotting but actually this would explain why even though Chrissy, Max and Virginia were all murdered indoors, Chrissy was the only one who went totally horizontal. what if she had to to get at least 7 feet off the ground because the trailer is the only murder site with a low ceiling

If anything, seeing Vecna this season just solidified for me how much Billy was fighting against him while he was possessed. He and Vecna are like reflections of each other, which I really need to delve into more later.

All the chimes as Billy was being possessed at the pool. The way he gets dragged across the steel mill floor the exact same way Max is dragged across the ground in s4e4. “Don’t be afraid. Try and stay very still, it’ll all be over soon.”

Flayed!Billy’s speech in the cabin? Vecna was never trying to kill El, he wanted her to join him. When Vecna carries Max, it mirrors Billy carrying El, except where Vecna unceremoniously drops Max on the ground, Billy lowers El gently. He never wanted to hurt her. He never wanted to hurt anyone.
