Foooooood! I love enchilades verdes, fudge overnight oats, tacos de al pastor with piña, pho, carne asada, pizza, fries, tamales, etc.

On that note, I'm happy whenever I find good, gluten-free alternatives. I'm gluten-intolerant and it gives me severe acne, really itchy and painful :( took me over a decade to find that out. I still need to find gluten-free dumplings, birotes, and flaky croissants. I miss them!!

Dressing up cute :) I'm glad I found my own personal style and have pieces in my closet from years and years ago. Every now and then I'll go shopping at the mall, but I mostly thrift nowadays. Younger me would've thought I look so cool now lmao

Anime. I like Attack on Titan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Spy x Family, Black Butler, Shadows House, Death Note, Fruits Basket. I've been watching Delicious in Dungeon too. This summer, I'm going to Anime Expo for the first time!

Mockumentaries. They're so funny to me!! I love Parks and Rec, Modern Family, and Abbott Elementary.

Music. I think Lauren can see how often I'm listening to music on Spotify 😂

I don't really do this anymore cuz of limited space, but collecting things. I have lil collections of enamel pins, vinyls, funko pops, plushies, and alternative press magazines. My room is definitely not minimalistic.

I love Mexican James, what would you say is his fav dish?

Mhhmmm I don't think he's a picky eater, so he enjoys everything. But I do think that he loves chilaquiles in the morning, red ones, tho. Mmmm, he loves las gorditas, los tacos ofc, ama el caldo de Pollo in the cold days (reminds him of Euphemia).

Loves el chocolate caliente, but he's more of the chile candy kind of guy. He likes tejuino but doesn't trust to drink it in any place.

Oohhh and ofc the birote, but the one that's made on Jalisco.

i literally begged my stepdad to not bring donuts and pan dulce into the house because i a) have stomach ulcers and cannot eat fried foods and b) have endometriosis and cannot eat gluten or chocolate and its been really hard trying to figure out my diet so i dont a) have a stomach perforation and fucking die and b) to help reduce the endometriosis pain / extreme swelling/ extreme discomfort. but in the week that i have since asked him he brought in store bought donuts, pan dulce and birotes i told him to at least hide it and he said he did and i found it because i was snooping around. i was literally cleaning the kitchen and he left it on the kitchen-table chair.

14: yes!! Sometimes, it tends to depend a lot on who directed it, specially bc of hoe badly the funding for entertainment is managed here in mexico. Any Guillermo del Toro movie is one I will adore. It doesnt really count as something national, but he IS mexican so in my book does.

And VILLAINS!! It's a really good mini series, im sad I stopped watching TV altogether

27: I'm not much to celebrate because I, for starters, dont even celebrate christmas. But I could say september is one of my favs along with the day of the dead. (Because you know, September is national festivities months for both mexico and chile) My favorite part is

1- The colors

2- The food

3- The earthquake memes, might sound a bit insensible because mexico has suffered great loses due to the earthquakes, and I recognize that, but the fact that we always get earthquakes in September, more specifically the 19, gives us top tier memes.

4- the music, ive always been fond of mariachi, i dont get to listen to it much, but im very fond of it because my dad always takes me to places with mariachi when i get to see him. Also, the voice and the instruments touch my heart. I wouldn't mind going deaf with Mariachi playing.

5- bolillo (related to the earthquakes) we are probably the only country that heals a fright with bolillo (i prefer a thousand times the salty birote.

La razón de porque amos Rasguños en la puerta de Melisa S. Ramonda

Contexto

En un 2017, estábamos perdidos, desorientados y sin rumbo fijo. En aquel tiempo éramos una mujer recién graduada con mención honorífica de la licenciatura de enfermería. 

A diferencia de nuestros compañeros, que no tenían un trabajo estable ni bien pagado; esta joven sus padres le habían acomodado un lugar en un hospital del sector privado, con la promesa de que no faltaría mucho para lograr entrar al trabajo de sus sueños. Una institución de salud pública del que sus padre eran jubilados. Solo era cuestión de tiempo de que recibiera la llamada que afirmara que ya había sido aceptada.

Aquella joven que eramos estaba autorrealizada. Tenía todo lo que siempre había querido. Al menos eso era lo que la voz de sus padres le repetían constantemente en su cabeza.

No recordamos exactamente cómo pasó. Por varios años habíamos leído, más bien tratado de leer libros, porque todos se quedaban a medias, inacabados. 

No estamos seguros si fue primero la web de marketing para escritores que encontramos navegando por internet; o una novela autopublicada que encontramos por twitter; o la recomendación de nuestra hermana gemela(alias: tigre compacto) sobre un libro con una premisa mega genial, el cual no había leído, pero pensaba que nos iba a encantar. 

Impresión

Ahí lo teníamos enfrente, una historia de romance con hombres lobos con protagonista mujer(uno de nuestros sueños febriles).

No vamos a mentir, juzgamos el libro con recelo(uno de nuestros grandes defectos es la arrogancia) ¿Qué podía tener aquel libro que otros no hayan intentado impresionarnos y no pudieron? 

Spoiler alert: estábamos equivocados. Mel logró tocar lo más profundo de nuestro corazón de roca.

Por muchos años, la joven Astrid había aprendido a suprimir sus emociones para evitar incomodar a los demás. Estábamos a la merced de las complacencias ajenas y moldeamos nuestros sentimientos a conveniencia de aquellos que eran importantes para nosotros. Principalmente, nuestros padres.

Rasguños en la puerta es para nosotros más que una novela juvenil con lobos. Rompió nuestro caparazón. Ese que habíamos endurecido para jamás volver a pensar en nuestro sueño. Ser escritores.

La pluma poco convencional de Mel nos llenó de ilusión. Los personajes tan reales que podíamos casi platicar con ellos en la cocina tomando un café con birote.

Johanna(Han) y Nikolai(Lai) podían haber sido nuestros vecinos escribiendo sus anécdotas con un seudónimo y convertirlo en una novela juvenil para mayores de 16 años.

Han, nuestra bella y hermosa protagonista. Quedamos enamorados de ella desde la primera página.

Éramos nosotros. Otra tragedia, otras pérdidas, pero el mismo sentimiento. Un dolor inconsolable, oculto en un “Estoy bien” ó “ya lo superé” con una sonrisa en los labios con lo que logramos engañar a todos, inclusive a nosotros mismos.

Esa necesidad de distanciarse de todo para dejar de sentir. Han lo hizo literalmente, comprando una casa en Wyoming encerrándose ahí ¿Cuántos no vivimos en esa metáfora? ¿Cuántos nos levantamos, desayunamos, vamos a la escuela o al trabajo, al gimnasio o a esa reunión con amigos pero estamos físicamente ausentes? 

Hasta nuestro cerebro nos engaña de que realmente estamos al 100% ahí. Pero nuestro corazón está desenchufado y solo sobrevivimos de mensajes pregrabados, como las de una contestadora cuando no atiendes una llamada.

Lai nos recordaba mucho a nuestro esposo. Comprometido con su deber, con miedo de decepcionar a todos y que una mala decisión pusiera en peligro a sus seres queridos. Llevaba una carga más grande que el mismo. 

No había margen de error. Las consecuencias de sus malas decisiones lo atormentaban y no podía permitirse estropear todo otra vez.

Mirko y Sasha fueron para nosotros la representación de la esperanza y los sueños que tratamos de proteger. Se reflejaban en nuestro niño interior, a ese que le hicimos la promesa que iban a ser felices y que iban a estar bien.

El conflicto, sus miedos, sus límites, todo lo que tienen que superar para poder romper las cadenas de su pasado. No es un trayecto placentero ni mucho menos sencillo, pero al final lo logran.

Mel es nuestra Heroína

A 5 años de haber leído Rasguños en la puerta, podemos decirle a la Astrid de ese tiempo, que las cadenas ya están sueltas.

Que una novela la hizo volver a enamorarse de los libros, le dio esperanza para volver a escribir. Que ya tenemos el primer borrador de nuestra novela.

Que a 5 años de leer esa “pequeña” novela, conocimos a Mel, interactuamos con ella y nos ha pedido ser lectores beta de su siguiente obra.

Amamos a Mel, con su pluma, su gran imaginación y grandes historias. Tal vez ella piense que solo escribió unas simples novelas. Para nosotros fue nuestra salvación. Porque nos hicieron volver a disfrutar la vida, cuando ya nos habíamos rendido.
