look. im not saying hakoda is a bad father. he clearly loves his kids a lot and did the best he could in abject conditions. but “being a man is knowing where you’re needed the most” are pretty bold words coming from a man who left his children behind in an extremely precarious environment with no protection or way to defend themselves from the pretty regular raids that their people are subjected to. like, i get that he had to lead the swt into battle as their chief, and also why he wouldn’t wanna stay at the site of his wife’s murder, but none of the men were like “maybe some of us could stand to stay behind to defend our village, i don’t really think this prepubescent kid who lacks support and experience is actually qualified for that job.” and somehow hakoda also managed to phrase that choice to sokka in such a way that fostered a maelstrom of interwoven masculinity, identity, self-esteem, and existential issues that he will never be able to fully disentangle because he idolizes his father far too much to acknowledge that perhaps that time hakoda told him as a child that his manhood is staked to his obligation to die for his sister was actually pretty fucked up. so he’s not exactly father of the year either.

A symbol of resistance
Tumblr media
Charlemagne Péralte
Charlemagne Péralte was a Haitian resistance leader shot by U.S. forces during the 1915 occupation.
After Péralte's death, U.S. troops displayed his body posed in a way that resembled a crucifixion – tied upright with a Haitian flag draped over him. This photo was intended to intimidate the Haitian population.
However, it backfired. The image resonated with Haitians, making Péralte a martyr and a symbol of resistance. There's even a famous Haitian painting called "The Crucifixion of Charlemagne Péralte for Freedom."

Shout out to Robert Rath and Fall of Cadia for making all the space marine characters a) vainglorious idiots b) vainglorious MEGA SUPER idiots or c) so wrapped up in their own personal drama and/or codes of honor that they were functionally useless until it was too late. I think Rath should be the only author allowed to write space marines until GW remembers they are supposed to be deconstructions of fascist military ideals and not superheroes.

kinda relevant: i've been seeing weirdos on twitter refer to young Palestinian guys (aged 15-35) as military aged men, trying to imply that all such Palestinian men are potential hamas fighters, and therefore legitimate targets. they are literally hungering for excuses to kill as many Palestinians as possible while evading accountability

It’s not that I don’t like Rhaenyra it’s just that I find her to be selfish and (sometimes) stupid in opposition to large parts of fandom that refuse to acknowledge these character traits because they don’t fit with their “perfect princess who was usurped for no reason🥺” narrative

another thing opla really does well is highlight what a stupid plan it was for Zeff to try to get the kid he adopted for, among other things, being too damn stubborn to die to discard his misplaced guilt and start his own life by….being a crappy boss

I don't know how to emphasize that just because someone does something wrong, doesn't mean they should die for it.
People trying to justify Nex Benedict's death by saying he threw water at those girls, I don't give a shit, being splashed with water doesn't mean you should beat someone to death, I don't care whether or not Nex started the fight, they shouldn't have died for it.
People trying to justify the police killing Ryan Gainer, multiple cops against one disabled child having a meltdown, if Ryan was charging at one cop the others could've tackled him, not shoot him three times and leave him bleeding out on the ground while they search his house.
Doing something wrong or making a mistake should not end in our deaths.

LOVE that you’re going up for Delainey!!! I’m sad Bailey won’t be back, but i’m curious and I want to feel positive about what Delainey might bring to this and I'm happy its a mix of both here too :).
thank u& of course! i too, was shocked + somewhat saddened at the fact bailey bass could not return. amc took a big gamble + we were lucky to even have her for the episodes we had. w/e that reasoning was for her premature exit is not my line to speculate, but its sad she had to go bc we saw how much she loved her role as claudia. the whole world saw her joy. likewise we should also try to be able to detach our attachment from the depiction of claudia amc introduced to us to from what real people choose to do with themselves. i heard delainey was one of the finalists for claudia, so that alone is a testament to delainey’s own veritable skill as an actress. people should be able to understand that, and certainly not devolve into weeks of mourning as if claudia was already killed off just cuz its not the same actress playing her. i like to make the best of this situation. in this the showrunners made an excellent choice that indicated their awareness of racial/gender contexts and the need for consistency in those aspects. thus, i am excited for what delainey [+the entire team] will bring for season 2.

The galaxy is having tensions between the Inhumans and the Shi'Ar so the Guardians of the Galaxy are sent out on their mission and they are divided into different teams - one is 'Stop the Shi'Ar' Team led by Rocket Raccoon and the other is the 'Negotiate with the Inhumans' team led by Star-Lord.
The Diplomacy team consisted of Star-Lord, Phyla-Vell, Bug, Jack Flag and Gamora. They are sent out to negotiate with the Inhumans and convince them to stop the unnecessary war. Star-Lord's team arrive at the Inhumans' throne room where they tried to negotiate with King Black Bolt and Queen Medusa. Unfortunately for them, the negotiation doesn't go well from Bug's lack of tact towards Queen Medusa and Phyla-Vell's impulsiveness when she took Crystal hostage for a "bargaining chip". Then, this escalates further when they teleport back to Knowhere's control room where the Guardians of the Galaxy are attacked by both the Inhumans and the Shi'Ar. While everyone else are fighting, Star-Lord scolds Phyla-Vell for making the situation worse.

white american liberals love seeing poc as victims who constantly have to beg for a shred of white liberals' attention so they may throw some solidarity our way. the moment we refuse to audition for their sympathy and instead empower ourselves to fight back directly against our oppressors, these same liberals are not so comfortable with the idea of us as victims or innocents - how dare we resist or have our own agency? if a poc takes up a rifle after seeing their entire family be killed, and then is bombed by the killers for fighting back against the killers, then is that poc a victim? oh but how could they be? - they had a gun. the gun becomes our symbol of liberation and hope, not mindless vengeance, but as a means for the destruction of the power structures that our oppressor rests on. stop prefacing your support of poc with condemnations of our resistance. negotiations will never free oppressed people because our oppressors do not have a conscience. you cannot reason with somebody who thinks you are inherently worth less. resistance is the only way forward.
remember that the violence of the oppressed is in no way morally equivalent to the violence of the oppressor. and the oppressed do not have to justify the means of our resistance to the oppressors / the sympathizers of the oppressors.
