i feel like, especially in the midst of the double strike, it is important when we talk about big blockbusters, and certainly franchise centerpieces (or premieres, like barbie for the mattel cinematic universe), not to act like the director, writers, and cast are disposable. but particularly the directors. because while, for example, greta gerwig needed mattel’s ok to make a film with their IP, they also needed her (and her co-writer, noah baumbach). when marvel spends out the ass to get auteurs like ryan coogler for black panther or when DC courts indie darling cathy yan (who was indeed undercut in the end by warner bros), or even when marvel sticks with the russo brothers for the avengers movies and lionsgate with john wick director chad stahelski for all the sequels…….it’s not because it doesn’t matter who’s directing lol. these movies are not guaranteed to succeed. a look at the recent flop era of pixar (and of marvel!) illustrates that pretty clearly. deviating from a formula, or going with an unproven rando, is a recipe for disaster.
films need talent with a vision to succeed. yes, mattel was also going to spend out the ass to promote barbie. its a blockbuster, that’s always the case. but if the movie sucked and flopped, that would be the end of that. having a director with a vision, a voice, an authorial intent, and a proven track record is fundamental. the fact that studios cannot make these films themselves is WHY actors and writers are striking and part of the argument they’re making. i find it to be callous and silly to suggest otherwise, but i’ve seen a lot of that. it is a symbiotic relationship, albeit one in which the balance of power is firmly on one side.

2022 Movie Reviews
4 stars
Accident Man (2018): a fun action movie with a rather unlikable but still entertaining assassin trying to figure out which of his fellow assassins killed his ex girlfriend, assissted by his ex's new girlfriend. Solid action with interesting characters, would watch again in the right mood.
One in the Chamber (2012): It's about two competing assassins both dealing with competing Russian mobsters. A fun time with fun characters.
Black Panther Wakanda Forever (2022): Superhero movie with a lot to say about grief. Pacing feels a bit odd and length could have been trimmed down a little.
Strange World (2022): Some pacing issues and the message is delivered bluntly, but a good family movie.
3 stars
Lightyear (2022): a bit underwhelming for what was probably expected for a Buzz Lightyear movie but I do like the characters and its message.
Scream of the Wolf (1974): a decent mystery thriller about possible werewolf attacks. Extra points for presumably accidental homoeroticism, although don't expect a happy ending for the two guys.
Day Shift (2022): Clunky worldbuilding and script needed a bit tightening but a fun (and funny) vampire movie. The Nazarian Brothers are a highlight.
The Package (2013): Similar to One in the Chamber but a little more down to earth. The German (played by Dolph Lundgren not even bothering with a German accent) is both entertaining and intimidating.
Samaritan (2022): An introspective superhero movie with an interesting twist. Feels like it's trying to say something regarding class and crime but it's hard to identify what that is.
Street Fighter (1994): Is this a good adaptation? Not exactly. But I did find it surprisingly fun.
Black Adam (2022): A bit clunky narrative-wise but makes for a good popcorn movie.
2 stars
Legendary (2013): Script issues and bad CGI abound, yet I still find the characters and plot charming. Maybe it's just because I have a soft spot for cryptids and Scott Adkins.
Uncharted (2022): A bad adaptation and mediocre adventure movie. The leads are miscast, though the script doesn't help. At least the villains are fun. If you want a good Uncharted experience I'd reccomend just playing the games/watching a playthrough or watching the short film with Nathan Fillion
Abduction (2019): Interesting set-up with interdimensional creatures kidnapping people, shame it fumbles the landing. Starts out like a good if weird Power Rangers episode, but ends like a bad Power Rangers episode.
Dead Trigger (2017): So Dolph Lundgren has been in two zombie movies. Sadly, this isn't the fun one with robots. Mostly just a boring zombie movie that I barely remember.

wait hold up m dumb
so is Elvira a cannibal or smth? like I'm mad curious
the short answer? cannibal probably wouldn't be the right word but i can't think of any other word,, + also that i don't remember what i wrote in that one post i think you're referring to and we'll just say a lot of it is invalid
the long-ish answer? elvira and her entire bloodline can be considered cannibals, but for reasons that their goddess' sister (sekhmet) is responsible for, they don't really have a choice.
while most of their diet consists of regular food with a few exceptions (elvira/asra with animal meat, tanya with vegetables, mikau with literally anything), a requirement to be included is human (-ish) flesh or blot since regular food doesn't offer enough nutrition for them to survive off of.
(they also treat it as a fun little treat for birthdays, holidays, etc)
they mainly only stick to humans since they're very anti-wakanda and mutant and only turn to other mutant's when they're desperate (tanya), have permission (ezekiel), desperate and have permission with no alternatives (muhammed, elvira, asra), or about to lose himself to hunger (mikau).
the reason i wouldn't consider them cannibals is because they can't be considered humans. like, yeah, technically their very first ancestors were human, but once the vibranium meteor hit and the events following that happened, they couldn't anymore. once bast stepped in and turned the first black panther and golden jaguar into their titles, they were considered demons but protective ones. guardian demons? their significant others ingested the heart-shaped herb, so they could no longer be considered humans.
anyways i already forgot what i was trying to get at 🧍🏽‍♂️ so: n'daku-stevens → do eat humans, very rarely mutants → is it cannibalism? technically not → why? → first bp/gj aren't human, technically demi-gods + their s/o's weren't human, moreso mutant/demon → no human blood in the entire bloodline = since they technically have no human blood, they'd really just be human eaters since cannibalism is more same species eats same species, but they do eat flesh and organs and all that

Welcome to Black Excellence 365, where we celebrate all things Black and Excellent every day of the year. This month, for March, we will be taking a look at a new theme and source of pride & expression: Hair ✂️.
This month is all about hair, and its importance to Black style, culture, music, history, politics, and, most of all, Black Excellence. Black hair is an essential part of the Black experience. You name it, we’ll look at, explore, and celebrate it: cornrows, box braids, natural coils, knotless braids, goddess braids, twists, pixie crops, locks, wavy hair, crochet braids, and everything in between. Black hair goes hand-in-hand with every aspect of Black life and touches every corner of the world. Care for Black hair is a labor of love ❤️and a long, long process that involves washing, detangling, combing, oiling, braiding, twisting, and decorating the hair, which creates not just a sense of beauty but honors its spiritual power. And this legacy lives on today across Black life. In the 60s, the Afro was a big expression of Black power, pride, connection, and revolution popular with artists, performers, youth, and activists. Some artists would use their hair as an expression of art, as they do today, while young Black Americans would ‘fro their hair to emulate the style of the civil rights heroes like the Black Panthers and convey Black pride, as pioneered by the Queen, Angela Davis. Since that time, Black hair has become a symbol of celebration, a reminder of our roots, and a call to embrace heritage while politically rejecting Eurocentric ideals. Today, the Natural Hair Movement is carried with pride and power. Black hair has always been political — in the same vein, in 2019, The Crown Act (sign the petition|email your legislator) was passed as a starting point to support Black Folx in their appreciation of their hair — their CROWN 👑. Whatever the period, whatever the style, It is all Black Excellence and is here to be celebrated 24/7.
But BE365 is nothing without you: so POST your favorite hairstyles, iconic Black cuts, shapes, and styles, and your cutting-edge hairdressers and stylists who turn Black hair into art, and Black Excellence. And don’t forget to tag your content with #blackexcellence365 for the chance to be featured. And last but not least, join us for our celebration and of the very best in Black hair of every shape and every style. Make sure you join in, follow, and smash that share button using the tag #BlackExcellence365.
Welcome to March in #BlackExcellence365 ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽!

So whenever your disability pride flag is shared on tiktok, ive noticed people asking why do disabled people need a pride flag, or saying that we dont deserve one because we are "co opting" the gay pride movement... and i am honestly at a loss at what to say to them
Okay, then: here's some Disability Pride Talking points for you, when you come upon that assumption:
First: The Disability Rights Movement gained steam in the U.S. at the same time as the Civil Rights Movement was advocating for racial equality, and the Women's Rights movement was advocating for gender equality -- all in the same decade as the Stonewall Riots.
Second: it may seem like Disability Pride Month is "copying" Queer Pride Month, because July comes right after June. But the reason we celebrate Disability Pride Month in July is because that's when The Americans with Disabilities Act was signed: on July 26, 1990. This was the first Disabilities Rights act in the world. It was followed in 1995 by the Disabilities Discrimination Act in the U.K., and in 2019 in Canada.
Third: on April 5, 1977, the (American) Nationwide 504 Sit-in (Wikipedia article) began, to protest the fact that three presidents in a row had been stalling for four years to implement Disability Civil Rights legislation. Disability advocates staged sit-ins in Federal Buildings for the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and Seattle, San Fransisco, and Washington D.C..
The sit-in in Washington D.C. lasted 28 hours. The Sit-in in San Fransisco lasted 25 Days, and remains the longest occupation of a Federal Government building in U.S. History (It was epic). The civil rights group The Black Panthers also helped with logistical support.
The police tried to force the people inside to leave by cutting phone lines, forgetting that there were people who knew American Sign Language both inside the building, and outside, in the crowd, and they relayed messages back and forth through the windows (excuse me while I take a Cackle break).
Finally: Disabled people are human beings, and deserve all the human rights as everyone else. But a lot of people in authority, look at our lives from the outside, decide that we already have a low-quality of life (without actually asking us), and deciding that it wouldn't be so bad if we died. You know, at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in this country, it was a fairly common policy that if hospitals ran low on ventilators, they'd just take them from disabled people who needed to use them every day? Remember that?
That's why we have to get loud.

Salutations Friend/Foe
I had never really watched much Marvel, other than a few Spiderman movies and Deadpool. I had definitely never seen any Captain America or Avengers movies.
I found your blog a fair while ago and fell in love with your Steve and Bucky. I decided that this year I would watch throught the MCU in chronological order.
I've just finished watching The Winter Soldier.
I don't know whether I want to say thank you or screw you for introducing me to this world of absolute pain. I believe there is one Captain America movie left, and be warned, if it doesn't end well (with a little kissie) I will haunt your blog until the end of time.
That said, could you spare a Stucky thought to soothe my wounded heart?
Sincerely,
:((
I feel very privileged that you read my stuff without really knowing the characters too much (although, honestly, at this point, do you really need to? it's not like I write canon compliant too often anymore)
bless you and your kind words
Because you're so kind, I feel the need to immediately respond to this message with a warning:
DO. NOT. watch Avengers: Endgame. If you absolutely must, cut it off about 10 minutes before the end, this is for your own sanity. It came out in April of 2019, I saw it the first night in theaters, and I am STILL furious any time I think about it.
That being said, you should know that you've reached The Peak of the MCU. There are very few MCU movies better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier. One of them is Black Panther.
Of course, I will be happy to soothe the wounds brought on by TWS. Any special requests or will anything suffice?
