Y/N POV
You scrolled through all the document pages on your tablet as you made your way to Shuri's lab. She had been hiding away in there for the past 4 days so you decided to drag her out to clear her mind a little bit. The doors opened and you were greeted by Griot as you stalked closer to the princess. She was much taller than you but you made up for it with the puff that rests on top of your head. You sat down the tablet on a nearby table before bringing your hands to rest on her torso.
"Hey baby." You mumbled placing a kiss to her spine. You felt her shiver in your arms as she turned her head to look down at you.
"Hi my love. What are you doing here, I thought you had a conference to go to in the states." She questioned and you grinned while letting your hands roam. It's been a while since you had her in your arms, so you want to savor it.
"I do. But I fly in tonight. Was wondering if you'd like to tag along and go to dinner?" You suggested and she sighed.
"Baby you know I have so much to do around here." She said with a frown.
"Let Griot take over. You've been so busy and I miss having you so close to me." You muttered as another kiss landed on her shoulder.
"I don't know Y/N. I don't really have much time to relax nowadays." She said leaning into your soft kisses.
"Exactly my point. You need it." You pushed, running your hands down her thighs. She grabbed your wandering hand before turning to you with wide eyes.
"Okay, I'll go. Enough with your roaming hands woman." She chuckled as she finally took you in her arms and kissed your lips. You rested a hand on the back of her neck as the two of you refused to part before Okoye walked into the room.
"Am I interrupting something? I can come back at another time." She smirked as Shuri pulled away from you.
"No it's alright Okoye. I'll have her all to myself when we land tonight." You said before walking out of the lab.
"Okay princess. I see you." Okoye jokes, causing Shuri to roll her eyes.
"What, jealous?"
"Of course not. Just never expect to walk in on Wakanda's princess with her tongue down her girlfriend's throat." She retorted before handing Shuri the files she was instructed to.
While Shuri was finishing up in the lab you had packed a suitcase and drew yourself a bath to relax before the long trip. You let the warm water relax your muscles with a sigh as you thought about the conference taking place the next day. You heard the door open and lock before a quiet shuffling sound.
"Bathing without me I see." Shuri grinned and you turned in the tub to face her, resting your cheek on your arm to stare up at her. Her curls resting over her eyes as she took a seat on the toilet next to you.
"You were busy. Besides, I wanted to get some relaxation before the trip." You told her and she reached down to cup your cheek. Brushing her thumb across your skin before moving down to your lips. You paid no mind to her staring until you realized how lustful her gaze became. You silently watched her as she leaned down to capture your lips in a hungry kiss. She held your jaw as your hand grabbed hold of her legs.
"You know there's room for one more. This tub is big enough." You spoke against her lips and she stood to take off her jacket as you watched with anticipation running through your bones. Once she was completely bare she stepped in the tub before pulling you in her arms. Her lips found your once more and you quickly wrapped your arms around her shoulders. You could feel your arousal gather between your honey thighs as her hands roamed your body. Without breaking the kiss she maneuvered herself behind you and you subconsciously spread your legs, welcoming her in. You sometimes forget how easily she can make you come undone with just her kisses. One of her hands slid up before clamping down on your throat. You couldn't help the moan that left you as she gently squeezed while her other hand was preoccupied with your breast.
"Shuri-" You were cut off when she pinched your nipple, causing you to jolt while she brought her lips to your ear.
"We talked about this Y/N. What do you call me?" Her tone was firm and you shuddered against her.
"My apologies, your highness." You moaned out as she gave a sharp tug before leaving you.
"Good girl." With her praise you leaned your head back, giving her more access to you. Her hand left your nipple before submerging under the water moving to where you craved her the most. "So wet for me, yeah."
She was teasing you and you wiggled your hips starting to grow impatient. She grabbed hold of your thigh and gave a light squeeze as a warning for your whining. "Stop whining. You wanted me to relax. I'm doing just that." Her voice held so much passion while her fingers ran over your slippery folds. Slowly. The way she stroked you had your nerves on fire. Every now and then her thumb would graze the throbbing bundle of nerves begged to be touched.
"Please princess, enough with the games." You groaned out, your body eagerly awaited her next move.
"As you wish, my love." She mused in your ear as she finally buried a finger inside of you. Your back arched at the intrusion, but you welcomed it. The way her touch sent your nerves on fire. You humped into her hand, chasing your release as she mumbled praise after praise.
"Look at you. You're doing so good for me." She wasted no time slipping a second finger into you and your eyes fluttered closed. Your legs trembled at the sensation as you felt her fingers curl to rub a specific spot inside you.
"Fuck." You cursed before you turned your head to find her lips.
"You're so close now. My pretty girl wants to cum on my fingers does she?" She taunted, her breath fanning against your lips. Her fingers sped up as she swallowed all your whining moans signaling you're nearing your release. Your pussy clamped down on her fingers as you came all over her hand. She chuckled in your ear before pulling out her digits bringing them in front of your face.
"We're in a bath and yet you can still see the mess you made." She said as you took that time to catch your breath. She brushed her hand over your folds and you twitched slightly. Your pussy sensitive from the finger fucking you just got from your lover. "Let's get you cleaned up shall we." Shuri took the time to bathe you as you were slowly coming down from your post orgasm bliss. After the two of you got out of the tub, you spent the next few hours getting everything you needed for this trip. Any notes, files and documents. You had your hair braided before finishing up your packing to give it a fresh look. You went through your mental list making sure you had everything you needed for your trip while Shuri gave instructions to Grio.
"Okay I think that's everything. We're both all packed." You said zipping up your suitcase.
"Not quite. You're forgetting something." She said as she went to the dresser where she pulled out a box with a bow. "I got these for you. For our date." She handed you the box which you quickly made away with the bow. You opened the box with wide eyes and a soft gasp left you.
"Shuri!" You said in a hushed shout. "You dirty girl." You eyed the lace 2 piece lingerie with gold accents littered over the pieces. You held up the underwear to inspect it and ran your fingers across the lace.
"Thought you would look amazing in it." She told you and you bit your lip.
"I see. Guess I was forgetting something then." You grinned as you packed the lewd clothes in your bag.
"Now we're ready." She smiled as you grabbed your bag. You put on a tshirt and jeans while the princess rocked a purple track suit. You know you're on a tight schedule. But damn she looks good. She caught your stare before grabbing your chin.
"Like what you see Y/N?" She questioned and you swallowed some spit before fixing her collar.
"What I can't admire what's mine?" You asked and she pecked your lips.
Okoye and Ramonda greeted the two of you at the aircraft.
"Now I want you to be careful. Remember this is a business trip. No funny business." The queen said with a knowing stare as she eyed her daughter, who had a smile on her face.
"Of course, queen mother. I will make sure the princess doesn't go astray." you said and she snapped her head in your direction.
"It isn't me she should be worried about." She said and you rolled your eyes.
"Princess. Y/N. You two are to keep your kimoyo beads with you at all times. If anything happens or goes wrong you are to return to Wakanda with haste." You nodded and Shuri rolled her eyes. "Or Okoye will retrieve the two of you."
"Of course mother. Now we have to go now." Shuri rushed as she grabbed your hand, dragging you to the ship. As soon as the two got through the river border the ship flew on autopilot and the two of you took the chance to get some sleep. You pulled out the makeshift bed and Shuri looked at you with an arched eyebrow.
"Don't get any ideas. It's for us to sleep until we reach our destination." You told her and she let out a loud laugh. You gave her warning eyes as you put your hair up.
"Fine. I'll allow it." She said taking off her jacket and tossing it on the bench. The two of you got comfortable and you snuggled under her arm whispering sweet nothings to each other until the two of you dozed off.
Shuri was the first to wake up and saw that your destination wasn't too far out. She turned to you sound asleep resting on her chest. She placed a soft kiss on your forehead where your baby hairs are greased down. After a few moments of silence she woke you from your slumber and you prepared to land. Soon after you made it to the hotel you were staying at. 5 star hotel, funded by Nick Fury himself. Fury being the reason you're here.
"Fury sure does know how to extend an invitation." Shuri said as she scanned the lobby. You checked in under your alias and took the princess to your room. When you arrived you opened the door to the king suite. Shuri took one of her kimoyo beads and attached it to the wall.
"Griot?" She called out holding your arm to keep you from completely entering the room. You admired how protective she was over you.
"No malicious threats detected princess." The AI spoke and you raised an eyebrow at her.
"Have to be sure." She shrugged as you put your bag next to the bed. "Besides I could think of a million ways to make this room more safe than it is."
"Hey! No lab talk. We're here to relax." You said with a frown and she held up her hands.
"Okay. No lab talk. Only relax." She repeated and you shook your head.
"8:37. We made the perfect time for that date." You smiled and she nodded as she walked up to you grabbing your waist.
"There's a restaurant not too far from here. I've already made reservations." She told you and you frowned.
"What? I travel a lot. Always one step ahead of you love." She grinned as you playfully scoffed.
"Alright then, we should be getting dressed then." You said kissing her cheek. "Shall I wear the gift you gave me?"
"Of course. Even though it'll just be on the floor afterwards." She smirked and you felt your face heating up. You went to the bathroom and looked at yourself in the mirror. The bra held your breasts so securely and even gave them a little lift. The panties were nothing short of innocent. Covered everything except maybe a little bit of the curve of your ass.
"Cheeky princess." You muttered as you slipped the black dress over your curves, thick fabric covering the provocative pieces you had underneath. Once you were done with your makeup, you stepped out of the bathroom before coming to a stop. Shuri stood before you in a black blazer with black dress pants.
"Damn. Looking good." You said as your mouth went dry and she grinned before putting the kimoyo bracelet on her wrist.
"I can say the same for you." She said, eyes racking up and down your figure. You grabbed your clutch before reaching for her hand.
"Come, let’s not get ahead of ourselves. I believe we have a reservation." You smiled at her as the two of you left the hotel room. The restaurant wasn't far from the hotel so it didn't take too long to get there. When you arrived you looked around in awe at the decor and sheer environment of the space. Once you were seated you held up the menu looking over the variety of choices. You felt a heated gaze burning through your head and you looked up to meet the brown orbs of the princess.
"Can I help you Shuri?" You asked and she seemed a bit too quiet. You noticed her toying with her kimoyo beads and opened your mouth to speak but nothing came as you felt a warm sensation run through your body. Assuming it was the warmth from the restaurant, you paid it no mind.
"Have you decided on what to eat yet?" Shuri asked you as she looked over her own menu. You shook your head as the sensation persisted when the waitress appeared.
"Good evening ladies. What will you have to drink tonight?" She asked, looking between the two of you and Shuri spoke up.
"A bottle of your finest red wine please." She smiled and the waitress wrote it down before walking off to the bar.
"Are you alright my love?" She asked you, toying with her kimoyo beads again and you nodded ignoring the dull sensation. It was only then the sensation became more noticeable. Your body started to grow a little warm and you crossed your legs. Then it hit you. The sensation was vibrations coming from between your legs. Although there's nothing under this dress but-
"You did not." You said as light panic crossed your features. She shrugged her shoulders feigning confusion as the waitress returned with a fancy bottle of red wine.
"Here you are ladies. Now what can we get started for you this evening?" She asked opening the wine and Shuri's eyes flickered to you with fire behind them.
"Can I have the bourbon glazed salmon?" She asked and the waitress turned to me waiting for my order after filling our glasses to the middle. Shuri had the chance to flick her kimoyo bracelet a third time and you had to uncross your legs to keep the panties from pushing against your clit.
"Can I just have the same please?" You asked and she smiled before walking away and you finally looked Shuri in the eyes.
"Are you serious right now?" You asked in a hushed tone trying to cover the moan that nearly slipped out and she smirked.
"Whatever do you mean Y/N? We're just sitting here having a nice dinner." She stated and you closed your mouth as the vibration went up a notch. You wanted nothing more than to swirl your hips into the vibration but you had to fight that temptation. If you were behind closed doors, you would indulge in her little game and give her a show. But you're not only in the public eye, but in a crowded space. You'd die of embarrassment if someone saw you cum in a restaurant booth.
"Shuri-" Her eyes found yours and you could see the silent warning blazing behind them and you cleared your throat. "Your highness. Please don't make me cum here."
"But you look so pretty like this. Squirming around being all needy." She gave you a dark chuckle as the waitress walked up with your plates. Something about the way she said it, made you even more wet than you already were. You lowered your head so your braids would fall and cover your face to protect the little dignity you had left. "You ladies, enjoy! Anything else I can get for you?"
"No thank you. This will be all for now." Shuri spoke calmly as if she wasn't on the verge of making you cum in your seat. The waitress looked over at you and you gave the best smile you could muster up and she fell for it before walking over to another table.
"Please stop." You moaned softly as you covered your face when your eyes rolled to the back of your head.
"Why when you seem to be enjoying this more than I am?" She questioned as she began to cut into her salmon. You couldn't call her bluff, because it was obvious you were enjoying yourself. But you wouldn't admit that to her. It'll only stroke her ego. You felt the coil in your stomach tighten as your release neared. You shifted your hips slightly and wanted to just get it over with. "If you want to cum so badly just let go. No one is stopping you." She touched her kimoyo beads one last time and you swear you could see stars.
"I want to see my pretty girl cum. Go ahead." Her full attention was on you now and that was enough for the coil to snap. You groaned softly into your hand as you cum in your panties. Legs squeezing together as if to soften the blow. Luckily no one turned to look at you as you rode out your organsm. She held the most satisfying grin on her face when she reached down to turn the vibration off. Your body went slack as she continued to eat her food. You caught your breath before sitting up straight to brush your sweaty palms on your dress. You grabbed your cup and downed your wine in a couple of sips. Your eyes found hers and she still held a burning fire behind them. Letting you know that your night was far from over. You finally began to eat without another word and the waitress found your table when you completed your meal. Shuri paid the check and you grabbed the bottle of wine off the table as the two of you left the restaurant. You could still feel your arousal between your thighs the entire ride back to the hotel.
"What, are you mad at me now?" She asked in an amused tone and you scoffed.
"That was the most embarrassing thing to have ever happened. What if someone saw me?"
"No one saw you, baby. I promise you." She laughed and you crossed your arms. "Okay I'll make it up to you when we get back to the room. I'll make you feel so much better for doing so good for me." She squeezed your thigh and you couldn't help but bite your lip.
"After that stunt you better." You mumbled and she brought you hand to her lips.
"I will. I can promise you that."

The Same Mistake
Tumblr media
K'uk'ulkan x Reader
A/N: Alternate version of Second Chance.
You were once a Queen, now you were a traitor.
The people who used to respect and love you, turned against you and chased you out of the water.
Along with the love of your life, K'uk'ulkan or you should probably call him, Namor.
The man who once loved you more than anything. The man who promised you everything.
Turned against you all because you refused to fight.
He was ready for a war against Wakanda and the entire world. He wanted to burn it all down. He wanted you by his side.
But you refused.
And so, you were chased away.
Thankfully, the Wakandans were extremely kind people, Shuri offered you a home near the river. Even if you told her you couldn't return to the water.
Namor said he would personally come to kill you if you do.
And so, you and your baby had to learn to live above water.
Your baby, as you often ran your hand down your belly, was the very reason you refused to participate in the fights.
Your baby was the reason you didn't wish to burn the world along with Namor.
You refused to give birth to your child and bring them to a world of misery and pain.
If because of that, you were said to be a traitor, so be it.
When you refused to fight, your child was only a suspicion of yours, you weren't sure if you were really pregnant or not.
Wakanda was even kind enough to guide you to a lake. A lake not connected to any other water, in there you gave birth to your daughter.
Your beautiful daughter who looked just like your husband.
She became your everything. It broke your heart that she might never see Talokan.
But you will try your best to show her that not all people on the surface are bad.
Once she was of age, you often brought her with you to the market. Almost everyone knew the little Princess by now. Kindly named after her grandmother, Fen was a true ray of sunshine.
She was only two months old, but she was already laughing and giggling at everyone.
But she did look a lot like her father.
Her ears pointy as his, but she didn't have any wings on her ankles. She had your smile and nose, but his eyes. She was a spitting image of her father.
Which really gave you a big challenge.
You tried to hate Namor. Tried to resent him for sending you away and for tearing himself away from a child he didn't even know existed.
But you had to be strong for Fen and for yourself.
Shuri often invited you over to the palace. Just casually talking as she showed you her newest projects.
Much like today.
Nakia took your baby from you so you could have a couple quiet moments.
You laughed along with Shuri when the door busted open. Okoye followed in two Talokan soldiers.
"As I said, she is busy!" Okoye yelled at the three men.
"Princess. We wish to speak." said Namor.
You were frozen in your seat. The entire room went quiet as you refused to look at him.
"I'll take my leave." you quickly said before turning to run out and find Nakia and your daughter.
Even just being near him was extremely difficult.
You soon found your daughter as you took her into your arms and ran out of the palace. But of course, it wasn't that easy, because just as you were about to leave, Namor was standing in the doorway, still talking to Shuri but everyone noticed you.
You slightly tightened your grip around your daughter as you tried to work your way around the two soldiers.
But of course, it was more difficult than it needed to be.
Your daughter was getting fussy as the man in front of you still didn't move.
"Let me leave." you begged in your native language, but the soldier didn't move.
"You are holding a true treasure," said Namor behind you. Thankfully, you were hiding her from the people around you, covering her ears.
"I'm only a traitor, let me leave." you asked once more but no one moved. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Namor approaching you from behind as she took a step closer to you, trying to see your baby.
You suddenly turned and looked into his eyes.
The same eyes your daughter had.
"Let me leave." you said once more before Namor nodded and the soldier moved, you rushed out.
"She married someone?" asked Namor from Shuri who refused to answer instead she turned and walked back to her lab.
But the thought didn't leave Namor.
You were the love of his life, yet you found someone else so quickly. He felt betrayed on a whole new level.
And in his anger, which blinded him greatly, he went to your home. Ready to kill the man who dared to take you from him.
He swam up the river and easily found you, he could hear you sing softly as he approached the window. He was flying as he looked inside, hiding in the dark night, he watched you, your child on your shoulder, sleeping as you bounced her.
Then as you turned Namor saw her ears. The little ears which looked exactly like his.
And suddenly, it all made sense.
You put Fen to bed before returning to the living room, ready to clean up when you nearly jumped out of your skin as you noticed Namor standing by the opened balcony door.
"I never entered your waters! You have to leave!" you said but he didn't move.
You noticed how his eyes changed. His expression was completely different from the previous one. No more anger can be seen.
"Why didn't you tell me I have a daughter?" you were taken aback. Did he see her before? Or did he come here for revenge and saw?
Probably the latter, knowing him.
"You told me if I enter the water again, you would personally come to kill me. And you wouldn't hesitate."
"I thought you knew, I would never hurt you. I felt betrayed."
"How do you think I felt? One disagreement with you, and you sent me away. Declared me a traitor. I wasn't sure that I was pregnant. I didn't know back then. But I refused to give birth to a child into a burning world." he stayed quiet. "Please don't take her from me." you whispered, trying not to break down as you finally let fear enter you.
He was powerful, more powerful than you, a God.
He could do anything he wanted.
Your statement seems to strike him.
"I could never. I thought you found someone else, and got over our centuries-old love so easily, I'm happy I was wrong. I thought... we tried so much... I thought we couldn't have children."
"I wasn't expecting it either. But when I showed signs... you were talking about a fight and war." when you sensed to anger in him, you also calmed. "Do you want to see her?" it didn't take him long to say yes.
You guided him to her room, in there she slept in her little crib.
"She is just like you, but she can go far longer than you without water."
"What's her name?"
"She was named after a very strong and kind woman. Her name is Fen." you watched as he reached out, running a finger down her face.
"After my mother... she is beautiful."
"She is a very happy baby. Always smiling and giggling at people."
There was a couple minutes of silence when he just kept staring at her.
"You need to return to Talokan. She needs to be with her people."
"No." he suddenly turned to look at you. "You sent me away, you said you don't want me anymore, that you don't love me anymore. I can't put her through the same."
"It was anger and fear talking not me. I never stopped loving you."
"You say that now, but what happens when we have another disagreement?"
"Do you still love me?" he suddenly asked.
"I do. But I need to think of her as well. If you throw us out or me out... I wouldn't survive that." he moved to stand in front of you.
"I swear to you, on my own life on our people's lives on the secrecy of Talokan that this will never happen again. Ever." he could tell you were still unsure.
"I will stay here with her, you could come and visit. I want you to prove it to me, to us, you will need to gain my trust again." he nodded, understanding your decision.
"I will come every day when I can." you nodded this time.
He spent a couple more minutes looking at her before he left.
You were so nervous, you decided to sleep with her in your bathtub.
The fear of him taking her from you was too big.
---
As he promised, he arrived the next day, although you weren't in your home. He decided to wait.
He soon saw you return with your daughter in one hand, the other holding a bag of food.
Fen was currently too occupied with your necklace to see the man.
"Let me get that for you." he said as he took the bag from your hand, his eyes never leaving his daughter. "She looks like you." he said as he followed you into the home.
"I think she looks more like you." You whispered as you began to prepare some lunch.
"I can hold her if you want, so you can move around." he saw your grip tighten around Fen. "You think I would take her from you? You think of me as a monster who would separate a mother from their child?"
"You separated me from my home, my people and from my husband." your reply cut deep with him. But he couldn't deny the truth. "But you also know that I wouldn't stop at anything if you do take her from me."
"I won't take her from you. And I do know what you are capable of, yes." with that, you slowly lifted her off of your hip, she made a noise of confusion before she looked at the stranger to who she was handed to.
"Hello, My Little One. I'm your father, I'm sorry I wasn't here before." Fen was quiet, was too quiet, it was completely uncharacteristic of her. It did worry you but soon her attention drifted to Namor's necklaces. "She is much like you. You also adore my jewels," he smirked as he looked at you but you were too busy preparing lunch.
He knew that with these small steps, he will be able to get you back. And he will make sure to never make the same mistake again.

Word Count: 6k (gotdamn)
Babyboiboyega’s Marvel Masterlist
Babyboiboyega’s Masterlist of Masterlist
Series Masterlist
Content: fluff, a little bit of angst, mentions of hospitals, the very high potential that the second part of this doesn’t make a lot of sense, as I finished this around 4 AM, running on nothing but a Canada Dry and a family size bag of Cape Cod chips (my faveeee)
Part 2 is heerree! I know I said it was gonna be posted sometime last night...but I have a problem where I’ll start writing, and instead of keeping with the plot I had already planned, my mind is just like “okay but what if we did this??” That’s exactly how this part turned from 2k words to 5.7k. I stayed up until 4 am writing this because I was so excited to finish it and post it.
So y’all better not let this flop, or TRUST...you will be dealt with.
I’m just kidding. I hope y’all enjoy this part!

Recap:
Your eyes scanned the message over and over until it was finally time for you to get ready for bed; but even as you lay in bed a while later, your eyes on their way to shutting for the night, you couldn’t help the small smile that curved your lips.
Shuri: you’re welcome. Same time tomorrow? :)
You: I’d like that, if you’re free
Shuri: for you? I am. See you tomorrow. Goodnight, y/n
You: goodnight, Shuri :)
**********
It took only a few days for you and Shuri to become a set of bonafide friends. It took the same amount of time for something to start developing between you two, something that didn’t exactly scream just friends. It unsurprisingly took less than that for people to start asking you questions.
You hadn’t exactly predicted that it would happen, but you didn’t put it past your fellow classmates to ask questions; the way some of them gazed at the two of you when walking across campus told you enough about their curiosity. The attention wasn’t exactly enjoyable, but you felt as if you couldn’t complain compared to what Shuri probably went through on campus.
The questions you were approached with ranged from humorous to downright nosy- so nosy you couldn’t even answer them. Some questions were healthy reminders that you weren’t the only one potentially attracted to the princess, and ironically, those were the hardest ones to answer.
Almost every time you met with her, you had new questions to spout her way on behalf of your classmates. Only the semi-normal and funny ones were discussed, though. If the question was even the slightest bit out of pocket, you didn’t even bother mentioning it to her, not wanting to even risk making her uncomfortable; not if you could help it.
However…you had to admit that even you were curious about her answers to a few questions…especially one that you were asked mere minutes before leaving your last class and meeting her in one of the study rooms.
“Hey, there she is!”
You heard her voice before you saw her, her accent making it easy to recognize who it belonged to.
Shuri had a habit of making you smile as soon as you saw her, no matter what type of mood you were in, and tonight wasn’t any different. The smile that appeared on your face echoed on Shuri’s as she approached you, lifting her arms to embrace you in a hug. She didn’t exactly tower over you, but she still had to bend a little at the waist to hug you, her arms wrapping around your back while yours did the same.
“Hey, girl. How were your classes?” You had somehow learned how to keep the nerves out of your voice when you spoke to her, but it was also partly due to Shuri just making you feel comfortable enough to forget about those nerves.
You were never the one to pull away first, simply because you could stay in her arms for as long as possible if you had the chance, but as you waited for her to pull away, she did something different.
At your question, she let out a soft groan of annoyance, resting her forehead against your shoulder. Her shoulders also dropped, her hands on your back fisting for just a second before relaxing. If you weren’t so worried about her reaction, you would have surely been worried about keeping your limbs from shaking against hers.
“Ah, hell. What happened? You wanna talk about it?”
She let out a breath before finally pulling back, much to your dismay. There was still a smile on her face, yet it had dimmed in contrast to the one she had just sported a minute ago. She shook her head, gently turning you in the direction of the study room. When she spoke, the regular, but subtle, playfulness was back in her voice.
“Not right now. Maybe later. Besides,” she stopped to open the door to the room, letting you walk in first before following and closing it behind her. When she turned to face you, there was a slight mischievous look in her eye.
“I want to know about this Serena girl who was oh-so-interested in us.”
Her usage of the word ‘us’ made your breath hitch, but you quickly covered it with a short laugh. You could only shake your head at first, remembering the conversation you had been subjected to earlier and how you had immediately texted Shuri about it.
“Nah, I’d say she was more interested in you, Shuri. You should’ve heard the questions she was asking me.”
Instead of getting her own computer and supplies out, she pulled out the chair next to you, sitting down and turning to face you. Her eyes were narrowed as she waited for you to continue, which you did. However, instead of looking at her, you worked on pulling out your own supplies in an effort to hide just how annoyed you still were at the conversation. Your annoyance was partly due to the kind of questions you had been asked and partly due to the insinuation behind them.
“The sparknotes version? She basically asked me to put her on with you. I asked her ‘how do you even know if she likes women?’. You know what she asked me?”
“What’d she ask?”
“She asked, and I quote, ‘well can you find out? I’m not the only woman here who wants the answer.’ The hell you mean ‘can I find out’? You really live in a lot of women’s heads rent-free, Shuri.”
A quick glance over at her showed that instead of looking anything close to annoyed, she looked amused. It wasn’t lost on you how she indulged in your storytelling, which only made it easier to fall for her. But the way she gazed at you in silence, undoubtedly as you recounted the conversation, told you that she was more amused at your reaction than at the story itself. It was all but proven as she let out a quiet snicker, making your eyebrows raise.
“You think that’s funny?”
Your words may have sounded genuinely annoyed to anyone else, but Shuri could see the small smile that threatened to curve your lips. It only made her find the situation funnier. She attempted to hide her smile, shaking her head.
“What? No, of course not.”
The look on your face showed exactly how much you didn’t believe her words. The shit-eating grin on her face told you enough. Silence settled between the two of you as you looked at each other, daring the other to break first. It only lasted for a few seconds before you were both letting out laughs.
“It was lowkey funny. I had to try so hard not to laugh. But, yeah, that was today’s out of pocket question.”
You didn’t even think about sharing with her the moment another girl asked if the two of you were ‘talking’. Having to explain the meaning behind two people ‘talking’ and how someone had applied it to you two, and then having to see Shuri’s reaction to it was nerve-wracking enough that you had no problem pushing it to the back of your mind.
“Not the weirdest one I’ve received, and certainly not the last time I’ll receive it. It isn’t even the first time I’ve been asked something along those lines.”
This time, your eyes narrowed slightly as you looked over at her. You propped your head on your hand, tilting it slightly as you motioned for Shuri to continue.
“Hold on…are you telling me people have been hitting on you? When has this happened?”
You prayed that the slight jealousy you felt wasn’t reflected in your question, because in all honesty…you didn’t know if you had that right, yet. Yes, you two had grown close over the span of a few days, and there had even been some slight, shameless flirting from the both of you…but until either of you acknowledged that there was something there, the line was blurred.
Apparently, you didn’t try hard enough to hide that jealousy if Shuri’s knowing smirk was anything to go by. She seemed to realize that your attention was solely on her as you waited for her answer, and she almost seemed to revel in it, taking her time to actually answer. You waited, eyes focused on the side of her face as she turned to finally take her own supplies out.
“Not a lot of people. Just the very brave ones.”
Your eyebrows raised, yet you kept silent. It took a few seconds of that silence for Shuri to realize that you were still staring at her expectantly. Her own eyebrow raised in question as she glanced at you.
“What?”
“What do you mean ‘what’? And? What did you say to them?”
Shuri turned to face you fully, her knee knocking against yours. There was still a questioning look on her face, but that damned smirk hadn’t gone anywhere. Instead of replying right away, she leaned back in her seat, letting her legs stretch out until they were placed on both sides of one of yours. She crossed her arms over her chest.
She had to know. She had to know the effect she had on you, and she constantly loved to see just how far she could push it. How close could she get before she had you glancing away nervously, slipping on your words? What could she say that would leave you speechless while simultaneously wanting to tell her all of the thoughts that ran through your mind at the mere thought of her?
How long would you two toe the blurred line between you two? How far would you two have to go in order to erase that line completely?
“Well, of course, I said that I wasn’t interested.” Her voice brought you out of the thoughts that were quickly bordering on spiraling, and instead heightened your curiosity.
“And that’s it?”
“That’s it.”
The unanswered questions were right there, on the tip of your tongue, yet you held them back. Grilling her about her answer felt a little too close to becoming…relational, and the last thing you wanted, or needed, was her to realize that you were asking the questions for yourself. Asking questions that would ease your mind when it came to thinking of Shuri getting with someone else.
You put on your best nonchalant expression, nodding your head in response.
“Hmm. I was kind of expecting at least one person to catch your eye.”
What are you doing? Are you dumb? Perhaps stupid? Now your feelings are about to be hurt.
Her smirk widened into a full blown smile, teeth showing and all. She shook her head, casually pulling her laptop closer to her and opening it. Instead of answering, she simply shrugged, letting out a soft “mmm” sound before turning her attention to her screen.
Without thinking, you reached out, lightly flicking her knee before turning to your own laptop. The laugh she let out was easy to listen to, almost calming, despite your mind still being preoccupied with analyzing her answer.
Even as you both started working on your respective assignments, you were constantly interrupted by your own thoughts, no matter how hard you tried to keep them at bay.
Shuri was now living in your mind rent-free, and you couldn’t seem to find an ounce of regret about it.
**********
You were quick to realize that any time you hung out together, time seemed to speed up, always making your time together too short. However, whatever ruling force in the universe had decided to remedy that, if only for just one night.
Right as you prepared to bid each other goodnight, your phone rang. The screen flashed your roommate’s name and after giving Shuri an apologetic smile, one she waved off, you pressed accept.
“Hey, ‘Mani. What’s going on?”
There was a moment of silence, at least in the foreground of the call. In the back, you could hear the distant sound of…sirens?
That wasn’t what made you feel uneasy, though. No, it was actually the sound of someone who wasn’t your roommate, but rather your ‘neighbor’, answering you paired with the sounds of sirens.
“Y/N, it’s Monica. Something’s happened at the dorm.”
Your eyebrows furrowed and your body froze, going tense.
“What do you mean something happened? Something like what- Where’s Imani?”
Monica didn’t respond immediately which only made you grow more uneasy and irate. It undoubtedly showed on your face and in your voice, as the next thing you knew, you were looking at Shuri face to face. She had slid into your line of vision with an expression of worry on her face. Between all of the sounds on the other end of the phone and your racing thoughts, the sight of her standing in front of you, obviously worried, helped ground you a little.
“They’re taking her to the hospital-”
“The hospital?”
“-There was a monoxide leak in the building and she said she wasn’t feeling well when we were evacuated. They said she’ll most likely be fine, but they just want to monitor her for the night. She also told me to grab your bag from near the door before leaving the building, so I have that with me.”
A heavy sigh left your mouth as you reached up to rub at your face. You covered your eyes as you took a second to think, trying to categorize which questions were most important to ask and which ones could wait.
“O-okay, can you meet me at the hospital? I’m gonna visit ‘Mani, make sure she’s alright. And then I can get my bag from you- thank you, by the way. Oh, shit. I don’t know how the hell I’m going to get there-”
You were cut off by a hand landing on your wrist, gently pulling your hand away from where it still covered your eyes. They snapped open to see that Shuri had stepped closer, her worried look only deepening as she looked at you.
“I’ll take you, it’s okay. We’ll take my car.”
You could’ve hugged her right then and there, and you were damn close to doing it. A fine mist fell over your eyes at the situation and at Shuri’s reassurance, but you only nodded quickly in thanks.
“Okay, I actually do have a ride. I’ll meet you at the hospital, okay? Thank you for calling, sis. Really.”
Shuri’s hand was already in the middle of your back, guiding you in the direction of, presumably, where her car was parked. You let yourself be steered, her hand a firm and reassuring guidance, until you finally arrived at her parked car. If you weren’t so overwhelmed, you would’ve surely gawked at the sight of her car, undoubtedly decked out with all of the most up to date tech. Hell, the car itself probably came from Wakanda, which automatically meant that it was technologically advanced in every way possible.
You were aware enough to notice Shuri open the door for you and wait until you were situated before running around to the drivers side and sliding in. It took less than a few seconds for her to start the car and pull off. As she effortlessly weaved around turns and bends, you could feel her constantly glancing your way, undoubtedly clocking the way you anxiously shook your leg.
“Griot, how far to the the nearest hospital?”
You looked over at her in confusion, a question on your lips; one that was quickly answered when a voice spoke over the car’s internal speakers.
“About 15 minutes, Princess. Roads are mostly clear and you are on the quickest route.”
“They would’ve called her parents by now, right? Isn’t that a part of a protocol? No, they most definitely called her parents, but I’m going to call them just to be safe. But I don’t want to call them and-”
Out of the corner of your eye, you could see her hand reach towards you, and only a second later, you felt it land on your knee. That was all it took for your leg to slow down in its shaking. She continued to glance at you, catching your gaze each time. Her voice was soothing as she said your name, yet it held a firm tone that helped ground you.
“Your friend will be fine, I’m sure of it. The hospital most likely already called her parents. I need you to breathe.”
The more you replayed her words in your mind, the more they made sense, making you nod quickly. They played on a loop as you turned your attention back to the windshield. Her hand on your knee hadn’t moved; if anything, her grip only tightened in just the slightest, flexing on your knee. It provided you with warmth. Safety. Security.
All of these things you continued to feel until Shuri pulled into the parking lot of the hospital. As soon as she put the car in park, you were opening the door and sliding out, Shuri not too far behind you. She effortlessly caught up to you as you quickly walked into the hospital, checking your phone for the text from Monica that told you what room your roommate was in.
Your steps took you to the elevator, Shuri sliding in right behind you. She stood so close to you in the elevator that her arm pressed into yours. Did she know just how much her touch affected you, in more ways than one?
The doors opened not even a minute later and then you two were stepping out, your feet instantly carrying you in the direction of the room. Your steps brought you closer to the room but as soon as you reached for the door handle, a voice was calling out to you from down the hallway.
“Excuse me! I’m afraid you can’t go in there, only family members are allowed in after visiting hours are over.”
You let out a sigh, turning to face the nurse who had approached you. It was obvious that you weren’t the first person she had to say that line to, yet it still irritated you.
“Ma’am, my roommate was admitted after possibly being poisoned by carbon monoxide in our dorm hall, along with countless other students. I just want to make sure that she’s okay.”
The nurse approached you, raising her hands placatingly despite your voice being just as calm, if not calmer, as hers. Your eyebrows furrowed at the gesture.
“Look, I understand that you’re worried about your friend, but I assure you she’s fine. Her parents are in there with her, they’ve been with her this entire time. We found very minimal levels of CO in her system; minimal enough that she’ll be released in the morning.”
You cast a lingering look at the door your roommate was behind before nodding. That was all the nurse needed, for she promptly turned on her heel and walked back to whatever station or assignment she had been on. The nurse’s presence was almost immediately replaced by Monica’s, and in her hand was a familiar bag that belonged to you.
“I’m glad you made it. I’m sorry to rush, but here’s your stuff. I have to get back to my sister’s room. Our parents are coming up from North Carolina, she was uh…she was in the building a little longer. They want to watch her for a few nights.”
She tried to say it as nonchalantly as possible, but you could hear the worry in her voice. It made you all the more grateful that she had still brought you your bag, even when her sister was in more of a critical condition than Imani.
“Damn, I’m sorry, Monica. I hope she recovers quickly. Please let me know if you need anything. And thank you, so much, for getting this.”
The smile she sent you was tight around the corners, obviously forced, but somehow still genuine. She nodded, and only then did she seem to realize who the person behind you was, prompting her eyes to widen slightly.
“Oh, Princess Shuri-”
“Just Shuri.”
Monica once again nodded at the correction from her, glancing at you incredulously.
“Alright. Y’all take care, and I’ll see y’all later. I’ll keep you updated, okay?” Her last question was directed at you and you nodded, sending her another grateful smile. She waved before turning and going back in the direction she came from, leaving you and Shuri in the hallway.
You had to take a second to process everything that had just happened, though it was hard when you could feel a headache coming on. Amidst everything, you had absolutely forgotten that the last thing you’d need to find out would be where you would sleep for the night, or for however long it would take for the building to be checked and secured.
“You okay?”
Your head lifted from where you had placed it in one of your hands, your temple throbbing slightly. Shuri’s eyes were the first thing you saw as you looked up, as she had bent down just the slightest to be able to look you in the eye. Looking at her, it was hard to ignore the fact that the night would have been increasingly difficult if she hadn’t stuck by your side.
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m good. Just a small headache.”
Her lips twisted into a sympathetic grimace, and then she was standing back to her full height. She nodded, placing a hand on your shoulder.
“Alright, well let's get you out of here. It’s pretty late.”
Almost as if her words reminded you that it was indeed pretty late in the night, a pang of exhaustion washed over you. You let out a breath, nodding in agreement and once again letting her basically lead you to the elevator you two had gotten off of.
You two walked in silence all the way to the car, and it was only after you arrived did you notice that at some point, she had slipped her hand into yours. Every now and again, she would squeeze your hand, whether it was to comfort you or just remind you that she was there. Regardless, you appreciated it more than she probably knew.
The silence continued as you both slid into the car, yet as soon as the doors closed, you were letting out a soft groan. You rubbed at your face, missing the way Shuri had turned to face you, worry plain on her face.
“What’s wrong?”
“I just realized…I’m gonna have to find a hotel and hope that it isn’t completely booked by other students.”
As you spoke, you quickly realized that finding a hotel would only happen if you asked Shuri to drive you to one. Despite not a single complaint leaving her the entire night, you still felt slightly bad about asking her to drive you somewhere once again, especially considering how late it was.
Unbeknownst to you, while you worked up the courage to ask her for yet another favor, her eyes were flickering back and forth in your direction. Her lips were pursed in thought as one of her hands gripped the steering wheel.
“You know, I don’t have a roommate. I have a single room, perks of being royalty, I guess.” She sounded slightly nervous, yet you didn’t clock it as you were too busy thinking over her words. Your eyes widened slightly at her insinuation, your head shaking quickly.
“Shuri, no. That’d be asking too much of you; you’ve already driven me here and stayed with me, even when you didn’t have to-”
“I didn’t have to, that doesn’t mean I didn’t want to.” Gone was the nervousness in her voice; now it was unwavering as she spoke. She looked determined as she turned more in your direction.
You were too tired to hide your shaky inhale at her words; at the prospect of Shuri genuinely wanting to stay with you and comfort you. And now at the idea of her offering her own room to you for the night.
“We haven’t known each other for too long, but I can already tell what's going through your mind, and I can assure you that you are not inconveniencing me- at all. I am offering my place for you to stay tonight, or however long it takes until you’re able to go back to your own dorm.”
Silence descended between you two for a few seconds as you contemplated her words, eyebrows furrowed. There was no indication that she wasn’t genuine in her words, nor did you expect there to be one. But seeing the determined, reassuring expression on her face was just enough for you to cave in.
“Alright, but only if you’re sure. I don’t want to impose or anything.”
God, you wished you could’ve snapped a picture of the smile that broke across her face at your words; it was wide enough for you to see her dimples. The mere sight of it made your own appear.
“I promise, you aren’t imposing. You can’t impose on someone who enjoys your company.”
**********
You must have been more tired than you thought, because one minute you were looking out the window as Shuri drove, and the next she was crouched down inside of the passenger door, gently shaking you awake. She called your name softly, shaking your shoulder.
“Sorry to wake you, but we’re here.” Once you remembered where ‘here’ was, you jolted awake, sitting up quickly.
“Oh, my goodness, I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you. My bad.”
A soft laugh left her mouth and she stepped back, grabbing your bag before you could get it yourself. She hoisted it on her shoulder which only left you with the task of grabbing your bookbag and stepping out of the car. You sent her a smile as you followed her into the dorm hall, yet upon entering it, you couldn’t help but be slightly impressed. Everyone knew that this specific dorm hall was one of the nicer ones on the entire campus, and you weren’t surprised that Shuri had been placed in it. However, you still were a little surprised that you were now about to spend a night in it, with Shuri, nonetheless.
“I’m on the top floor.”
“Do they have, like…suites on the top floor?”
Her laugh echoed in the mostly empty lobby, save for the front desk attendant who simply nodded as you two walked past. She shook her head as she pressed the elevator button, the doors automatically opening. Even as you two stepped in and pressed the appropriate floor, there was still an amused smile on her face.
“No, there aren’t suites on the top floor. It’s just…for easier access.”
The doors opened and she stepped off first. You trailed after her in confusion, lowering your voice with the hopes of not waking anyone on the floor.
“What do you mean by ‘easier access’? Easier access to what, exactly?”
You two approached the door at the end of the hall and she took her key out of her pocket. She glanced at you and shrugged lightly before turning and unlocking her door.
“The roof.”
She answered with such finality, as if you wouldn’t have follow up questions. Every one of those questioned died on your lips as she swung the door open, letting you walk in ahead of her.
If anyone would have told you that you’d end up in Princess Shuri of Wakanda’s dorm room, readying yourself to spend the night there, you would have promptly replied with a “nah, you’re trippin”. But here you were, stepping further into her room, looking at all of the memorabilia on her walls.
It was a spacious room, and she had filled the empty spaces with trinkets and posters, and other keepsakes. It was all an amalgamation of her own culture and the african-american culture she had grown to love during her time in the states. It was possibly the coolest room you had ever seen.
“I have a connected bathroom that you’re more than welcome to use if you want to take a shower or anything. There are towels and washcloths already in there.”
You nodded in response, already looking forward to taking a shower after the long day you had; and that’s exactly what you did.
Usually, you’d take as long as you wanted in the showers in your own dorm, but for some reason, you didn’t want to take up such time.
Who the hell were you kidding? You knew exactly why you didn’t want to take as long as usual in the shower, and it all had to do with the beautiful, cool as hell woman whose dorm you were in. You truly didn’t know when this would happen again, so maybe you just wanted to experience it in its entirety. Despite these wishes, your body protested against staying up for much longer as you stepped out of the bathroom, leaving a steamy room behind you.
It even protested as you set your things in a corner of her room, turning to realize that there was only one bed in the room. Shuri, presumably seeing your reaction and the way you looked at her bed, stood up. She motioned slightly to the bed.
“Oh, you can have the bed. I have enough covers to make a pretty comfortable pallet on the floor.”
Pushing a loose part of your bonnet off of your forehead, you met her in the middle of the room. She seemed almost a little surprised as you approached her, but you only looked up at her while occasionally glancing at the bed in question.
“Hell no! What? You’re not sleeping on the floor, Shuri. Not in your own room. I’ll sleep on the floor-”
“If you think you’re sleeping on the floor when you’re my guest, then you’re delusional, sweetheart.” She had the nerve to step closer, prompting the need to tilt your head a little further back. Her smirk spoke words you were almost scared to think, too afraid that you’d be reading too much into it. But the way she leaned over you, both of your individual spaces becoming one, had your face heating up. It also had you thinking nonsense- some of it slipping out before you could stop it.
“Then we’ll both sleep on the bed. Or I sleep on the floor.”
Her eyes narrowed at you for a second and maybe, just maybe, you were trippin’...but you could have sworn you saw your eyes flicker to the lower half of your face. It was in between one blink and the next, and yours were pretty slow from exhaustion, so you didn’t know what to think.
“It’s a deal. We’ll share the bed.” She emphasized her words by raising a hand into the small space between you two, offering it to you. With an eye roll, not an unkind one, you took her hand and shook it once. After letting go, she stepped back, motioning to the bed.
“Go ahead and pick your side. I’m going to hop in the shower.”
You didn’t make a move towards the bed until she had disappeared into the bathroom, closing the door behind her, and even then, you hesitantly walked towards it. It looked so damn comfortable, and you were so damn tired…
It didn’t take much self-convincing to grab your charger and locate the nearest outlet before crawling into…into Shuri’s bed. You turned on your side, graciously taking one of her pillows and tucking it under your head before pulling up your text messages.
It took a few seconds to send a text to Imani, one that simply said how much you were thinking of her and how you hoped she would feel better soon. You placed your phone on the table beside the bed before letting yourself get comfortable.
You wanted so badly to wait for Shuri to exit the bathroom. Maybe you two could stay up, talking, laughing. Or maybe she would just want to go to sleep, something your body was screaming at you to do.
In the end, your body won. The subtle smell of something that was undeniably Shuri paired with the soothing sound of the shower was enough for you to knock out. Well, for the most part. You were still awake enough to hear the bathroom door open and Shuri step out.
You heard her footsteps pause as she realized that you were close to falling asleep, and upon wrenching one eye open, you could see her sneaking around her own room in an effort to not wake you up.
“I’m not sleep yet.” You wondered if your voice sounded as tired as you thought it did. Shuri didn’t stop moving around. In fact, she merely glanced at you while grabbing her own bonnet, carefully pulling it over her curls before settling into the spot beside you.
She reached over to the lamp, turning it off, and then she was laying on her side and facing you. You sent her a tired smile, your eyes slipping closed once more. When you spoke, your voice was basically a whisper.
“Thanks again…for letting me stay.”
“No need to thank me. I wanted to help.”
Your head nodded where it rested on the pillow. The sound of soft shuffling hit your ears, yet your eyes wouldn’t open again. Next time Shuri spoke, it seemed as if her voice was louder. No…closer.
“Y/N.”
“Hmm?”
“What soap do you use?”
There was a pause as you willed your mind to remember the scent you had been using for the last few months- one that quickly became your favorite.
“Um…I think it's called…cherry almond twirl? No, swirl. ‘S a black owned company. Hunny Bunny. Yeah.”
You felt a puff of air on your face, but were too out of it to recognize that she was laughing at your groggy voice. The gentle pressure of something on your hand that rested between you two broke through the exhaustion that clouded your mind, but it only seemed to relax you more.
The tendrils of sleep were slowly curling around your consciousness, dragging it down until you were almost completely unconscious.
“Hm. I like it.”
“Me too.”
Silence descended over the room only to be broken not even a minute later by a gasp coming from your mouth followed by your eyes snapping open. Shuri’s face was closer than you had expected it to be, but you didn’t bother moving away. You didn’t want to move away.
“Y/N? What’s wrong?”
You lifted your head off of the pillow slightly, squinting to find her eyes in the darkness of the room.
“You never told me about what happened today. You didn’t have a good day, and when I asked if you wanted to talk about it, you said later. It’s later.”
Shuri couldn’t keep quiet as she laughed, shaking her head where it rested on her pillow. That gentle pressure you had felt on your hand returned, and you were quick to realize that it was Shuri’s hand resting atop yours. Her thumb rubbed across your knuckles, a soothing motion that had your eyes fluttering.
“It can wait until tomorrow. You know you’re ready to go to sleep.”
The yawn that you turned and let out into the pillow answered her assumption perfectly. Your eyes had closed when you yawned, and they didn’t open again.
“Okay. We’ll talk about it tomorrow.”
The smile on Shuri’s face radiated fondness and a softness that no one else on campus had seen as she watched your breaths even out. Even as she was sure that you were asleep, she continued to rub your hand, the motion that had put you to sleep relaxing her more and more.
You weren’t awake to hear her words, but she spoke them nonetheless into the darkened room.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”

A/n: since y’all think this bitch tinder i guess imma have to step up my writing game, can’t get goods fics anywhere. Like where y’all go??! 😭😭
Shuri and you have been close since high school, inseparable even. It was almost concerning how close your were and it didn’t shock a soul when you two got married. Growing up you were always the quiet and observant one and her the out going adventurous one.
Your Youth
You always got looked over by everyone except one person, Shuri. She noticed you right away, it was to your first day of freshman year, you had no one to talk or hang out with so during lunch you’d walk to the library and read. The first two weeks of school she studied you confused on why you’d sit alone reading, you were beautiful and smart to her, it’d seem like you’d make friends easily.
So one day curiosity got the best of her and she followed you to your personal corner. She watched you routinely pull out the book you’ve been reading and a highlighter.
“Whatcha’ reading?” uninvited Shuri plopped her bag down beside you taking a seat. The look of shock in your face was enough to tell Shuri she scared you “my bad didn’t mean to frighten you, I’m Shuri” she held out her hand with a bright smile on her face.
You glanced down at her hand and back up at her, you thought this was a joke. One why would the princess of the royal family come sit down and chat with you and two why is she in a public village school?
“Did I do something wrong your majesty?!”
“Shh no no you are fine. I wanted to come talk to you I see you walk in here everyday but no one joins you, why is that?”
“Oh well I’m not good at making friends” you mumbled shying away, “may I ask you a question?” Her face lit up with joy.
“Yes?”
“Why are you in a public school…you’re the princess don’t you have private tutors?” She chuckled nervously scratching her undercut.
“Oh well my mother thought it would be good for me to socialize with kids my age plus there’s really nothing they can teach that I already don’t know” you nod pushing your glasses up.
“Well I’m sure you have plenty of friends you are the princess,” her smile fades as she looks away.
“N-not exactly, you see no one wants to hang out with me as they are afraid of my status and the only people who do is also because of my status…so I’m in a lose lose situation, but if you don’t want me here I understand. I did intrude, my apologies” she got up with a sad frown beginning to make her way around the corner.
You felt bad, you knew exactly how she felt. Not having anyone to talk to and constantly being alone, it was no fun. Stricken with guilt you called after her.
“Princess Shuri!” You whisper yell, she instantly turns around with a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
“Yes?”
“You can stay if you like I don’t mind” you move your book bag and wave her back over “come join me” you smile patting the floor. A grin instantly took over wiping away her frown as she ran back over to you.
“May I show you my sketchbook?” She excitedly ask pulling out a thick notebook from her backpack. “All of my recent inventions are in here, look” she excitedly flipped through the pages finally having someone to show it to.
That one pivotal moment changed your life’s forever. Having each other made high school a breeze. Even growing into adulthood you two had each other’s back, and that slowly led you you developing feelings for each other that neither of you would speak about until later.
Attending college was no different even though you two didn’t pursue the same careers you stayed close nonetheless.
College Years
“I swear this homework is kicking my ass, I’m ‘bout to cry!” you wail slamming the mechanical pencil on the table. Shuri peered up from her lab table shaking her head.
“I can do it for you if you like-“
“No Shuri if you do it I’ll never learn anything.” She just shrugged going back to fixing her brothers panther suit.
She smirked cockily looking at you “it’s up to you I’m done with mine.” You shot daggers at her chucking the pencil at her head.
“It’s not funny!” She ducked laughing, “I will help you as long as you don’t throw anything else” you rolled your eyes swallowing the sarcastic comeback you had ready “fine.”
Shuri smiled putting down her tools “all you had to do was ask for help, you’re so annoyingly independent.” She’s one to talk.
You and Shuri sat at the table for hours finishing and correcting any and every piece of work you done that night. You were becoming distracted but not because of the work, because of Shuri. You were starting to feel things for her that a best friend shouldn’t feel, you eyed her beautiful features in awe. The way her jaw clenched and unclenched when she was thinking, the way she smirk to herself whenever she figured something out, or how her eyebrows would furrow when she was confused.
She was just gorgeous.
“Did you hear me?”
“Huh?! Ohhh yeah yeah I got it“ you didn’t get it.
Shuri was going over the material once again for you until her phone rang, it was Imani her girlfriend. You rolled your eyes putting your focus back on your work trying not to hear their conversation, but you couldn’t help it. You wished Shuri would call you baby like that and spoil you with love as she did her ungrateful girlfriend. Yes ungrateful, Imani cheated on Shuri twice and Shuri still took her back.
Sometimes you worried for your dear friend.
“Can you take that somewhere else I’m trying to work” Shuri knew you didn’t like Imani but you put up with her.
The Big Fight
Having enough of Imani’s bullshit with her treating your friend like she’s nothing, you confronted Shuri. You tried to tell her she’s sneaking around again but Shuri didn’t want to hear any of it, as if she was in denial.
“Are you jealous or something? Jealous that I found love and you can’t?”
Hearing those words come out of her mouth hurt like falling into a thousand needles. Hearing someone you fell in love with say they loved someone else hurt. You blink your tears away swallowing the lump in your throat.
“If you want to stay with her fine, but I’m not gonna stick around to watch her treat you like shit, don’t come crawling back when she breaks your heart again.”
After that fight you two had you didn’t talk for weeks. Over the course of those weeks you felt this hole in your chest grow larger and larger yearning for her to fill it, but deep down you knew she never would. What you didn’t know was Shuri felt the same. Spending so much time alone with Imani made her realize she didn’t want her. She was trying to distract herself away from you.
As she watched Imani lay on her chest guilt began to fill her, she didn’t want her laying on her she wanted you laying on her, she wanted you cuddling close to her. The very next day she broke up with Imani and ran you you. She ran over to your house hoping you’d find it in your beautiful heart to forgive her. Repeatedly she knocked on your door, when you didn’t answer she kept knocking and knocking until-
“Damn Shuri what is it?!” You knew it was her?
“Y/n please forgive, I’m terribly sorry for treating you the way I have. That was no way to treat my best friend. You were right Imani was no good for me I was only using her as a place holder for you, please please please forgive me” she held onto you with tears in her eyes hoping you would hug her back and say you forgave her.
You stared into her eyes still feeling the pain the day she said those hurtful things to you. You gave her a sad smile reaching for her face to dry her eyes “my sweet Shuri you hurt me, you made me feel like my opinion didn’t matter anymore” she shook her head no “no please it does matter to me I promise, please forgive me” with your love for the princess outweighing the hurt she inflicted on you, there was no doubt in your heart you weren’t going to forgive her “I forgive you.”
Not being able to hold herself back Shuri grabs you by the waist smashing her lips on yours. This was something you dreamt about, feeling her soft lips against your sent butterflies to your stomach. You held onto her melting right into the kiss.
She pulled away with a smile “Damn I’ve always wanted to do that.”
“You have?! Why didn’t it say anything?!”
“That doesn’t matter hush” she giggled kissing you again.
The Path of Love
(Suggestive)
Dating Shuri was a dream come true she was such a doll. Everything you needed she provided and vise versa. You two were made for each other, like Yin and Yang. You two experienced everything in life together including your first time.
You two were both so eager but nervous, having a few hiccups at first but nothing too serious. It was laughed off and you continued. You both took you time with each other, kissing and caressing each other ever so softly. Nothing filled the room but sweet moans and soft music in the background. You two couldn’t stop touching and loving on each other, so absorbed with one another’s presence, it was like heaven on earth.
“Damn” you huffed pulling the blanket over your naked body, Shuri giggled doing the same.
“If I knew you could do that I would’ve done this a long time ago” you gasp smacking her shoulder “Shut up!”
Your dating life was nothing too different from your friendship accept you kissed and had sex.
You both were extremely comfortable with one another and told each others every thought you had. So when she wanted to try something new in the bedroom you never denied her, you were always down with whatever. Others were almost sickened at how sweet your relationship was, you two spoiled each other with love and always talked out your problems.
Two years flew by and Shuri was ready to marry you. She proposed in the garden she had made for you, it was unexpected but of course you said yes.
The Present
Your love for each other never dwindled even in the roughest parts of your relationship your love stayed strong. So strong you decided to expand your love to your little one, you were currently seven months pregnant with a baby that was gifted to you by Shuri’s genius’s mind and her science.
You rubbed your swollen belly with a smile as you looked through your old year book.
“Oh my god Shuri look it’s our year book photos” she peered over the couch “eww I looked so bad, why did I think that looked good!”
You smacked your lips “no you didn’t! I always thought you were so cute with your little glasses and your know it all attitude” you giggled. You flipped through some more looking at all the photos you and Shuri took together through out your four years in high school, the way you two looked at each other should’ve been a clue to the romantic feelings you felt for one another, but the what ifs and buts doesn’t matter now because in the end you got your girl.
“You know I’m glad you came and talked to me that day in the library” you said closing the book. She smiled taking a seat next to you, “I’m glad I did to.”
She left a soft kiss against your lips then moved down you you belly to leave a kiss “I love you.”
You smiled caressing her curls “I love you more.”

Looking back at it, he regretted how things happened. The ire he felt for his father's death sent him over the edge. He didn't 'explode' like others, but he recognized (now) that he did have his moments.
"Agent Del Rio!" He called angrily after her. She was striding down the hallway, her back to him. "Agent Del Rio!" Eventually, he caught up to her and with one swift movement, he grabbed her by the arm and turned her around. "We need to speak  now !"
Citlalli Del Rio was anything if not pretty stoic with her expressions. It was a habit she picked up a very long time ago as a means of survival — literally. "Would you like to continue screaming in the hallway with other agents around?"
T'Challa was no fool. She was testing him and how far he would go to get what he wanted, even if it meant getting her into legal trouble. Could he?
Unable to answer himself, he pulled Citlalli into the first open room and shut the door with lock. "You pushed it today, Citlalli," he said immediately afterwards. "I know what you did."
Citlalli walked up to the conference table, drumming her hands on the top of a chair. "I do many things. Care to be specific?"
The ire grew stronger and T'Challa stalked up to her, once again turning her around. "You know what you did! You gave the weapons back. How could you help the people who cover up a murderer? A mass murderer, I will add."
Citlalli stoically looked at him and detached his hand from her arm. "You don't care that he was a mass murderer. You only care that he allegedly murdered your father."
"Allegedly?" T'Challa said incredulously. "He  did ! It is public knowledge that Sergeant Barnes was in the same city when the Accords were signed."
"Oh, you of all people know how technology can be used to persuade many people," Citlalli said, tilting her head to the side. Her dark eyes softened on him. "And it is much easier to convince someone who already wants to believe it."
In retrospect, T'Challa now knew that he had wanted to believe it very much. The news forced the idea that the Winter Soldier had blown up the site of the Accords and he, filled with ire and revenge, believed it without a second thought. It blinded him.
"Yes, I did help them," Citlalli said firmly, straightening herself up to take the full blame. Her open confession wounded T'Challa more than he had expected.
He got word from the Dora Milaje about suspicious sightings of Agent Del Rio and when they communicated the sudden loss of the confiscated weapons of Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson, and the coinciding disappearance of Citlalli, he knew it was true. Still, knowing it and hearing it directly from Citlalli was different
"Why?" He was left to ask.
Citlalli heard the frailty in his voice, the betrayal. She subtly swallowed hard. "Because it's not as it seems. I grew up blinded by those who were supposed to all truthful and powerful. I have learned to look past all that shine. I see things factually and factually, things are not what the news says. I listened to Steve Rogers. I heard him."
"It's all lies, Citlalli," T'Challa argued, "Sergeant Barnes is his best friend! He would cover for Barnes!"
"Yes, perhaps in other things, yes. It is the nature of best friends," Citlalli agreed with him, "But in this—"
" No !" T'Challa snapped.
Citlalli lowered her head, drawing in a sigh. "You are not listening."
"I'm not listening?" T'Challa said incredulously. "I'm not listening!? You — you are not listening to me!" And it hurt him so deeply that the one person he trusted, the person he…
Citlalli raised her head again, meeting his eyes. It was like she could read his mind. "I do listen to you," she said quietly, but he scoffed, and hard. "I  do ," she reiterated.
He was blind and deaf, apparently. Looking back at things, T'Challa knew he should have listened to Citlalli more. He'd gone off on her after that, telling her how that had been the ultimate betrayal and that any kind of relationships they ever had were done. Granted, their relationship had always been professional but neither one would deny that there were moments where sometimes that line blurred.
He regretted it so much.
Citlalli never yelled back, never argued back, and most importantly never tried to convince him not to break things off. That hurt too.
Had she never cared for him at all? Had he imagined those close-call moments between them?
When he left that room, he left Citlalli for good. He wanted to be a man of his word, even if it hurt him like hell.
But when things turned and he discovered the truth about Baron Zemo, T'Challa had no choice but to admit his fault. Unfortunately, Citlalli was no longer available. When he reached out to Everett Ross about her, he was told that Agent Del Rio had abruptly turned her papers in and resigned from the CIA.
The shock had taken days to ware off and when it did, T'Challa felt the weight of the past come crashing down on him. He'd lost his father and now he may have just lost the love of his life (who didn't know she was the love of his life).
"You should have told her a long time ago!" Nakia all but smacked him. Not even his status as King of Wakanda would protect him from her fury. She shook her head at him, hands on her waist. "I cannot believe it took all this to happen for you to get this."
T'Challa felt like he should put his hands up in surrender. "It was always pretty clear that she and I were just friends." Nakia scoffed and because Okoye was also in the room standing guard, she did too. T'Challa rolled his eyed at the two. "I was not ever intending on ruining the job she loved. We were professionals."
"Fifty percent of the time, perhaps," Okoye muttered and Nakia pointed at her in agreement. "You two were so in love that neither of you saw how obvious it was."
"Idiots, that's why," Nakia said, "And now you went and lost her because of your rage."
"I don't need to know but I already know," T'Challa said with a huff. "If I am bothering with this embarrassment, it is because I thought you two would be more willing to help me find her."
Nakia exchanged a glance with Okoye. Yes, of course they would help.
It took a while to track Citlalli down. T'Challa learned bits and pieces of her the time they knew each other. She wasn't very forthcoming about herself but T'Challa knew that it wasn't just with him. She did not trust many people and even then those she did deem friends knew mundane things about her.
T'Challa knew that he was one of the few people who knew that Citlalli had been adopted. She came from a very troubled past and her roots lied in Mexico, not the States. T'Challa liked to think that he knew her most, and maybe that fact enabled those feelings to grow. He learned how as a child, Citlalli had to run from her old village because of invaders; he learned the trouble it took her to cross borders and how she almost died on several occasions. She had lost everything and still managed to climb up the ladder all over again.
An uncrowned princess turned agent turned vigilante.
Looking back at it, how could he not fall in love with her?fall in love with her?
Because even when she tried being stoic, she slipped…with him. With him, she smiled, she laughed, she even joked. T'Challa imagined that was what Citlalli used to be before everything was taken from her and for him to be able to get it out of her every now and then was a gift he valued very much.
He hoped she smiled wherever she was.
After months of searching, they caught a break. T'Challa honestly couldn't believe it never occurred to him before. Citlalli's life had been in Mexico, so it only made sense that if she felt threatened she would return to her land where she felt more in her domain.
She was intelligent enough not to leave a trace of her leaving the United States so to anyone else it would appear that she was still in the States. Once they figured that out, their search became easier. Citlalli's old village used to reside not too far from Mexico City so it made sense for her to go somewhere near there. It became easier to spot the woman who had suddenly arrived in a small outskirt town who so decidedly wanted a job in or near a horse stable.
"It was so funny to me," Citlalli truthfully laughed. She sat with T'Challa on a bench only a few blocks from the CIA headquarters. "My adoptive parents had good intentions with their idea to bring me to a horse stable. They thought I should have some nature around me."
"I imagine in New York that's not very possible," T'Challa remarked, leading her to hum.
"So they bring me to this beautiful stable one day and they think that I'm going to be afraid of the horses. As if."
"As if…" T'Challa watched her laugh again. "So they made the mistake of assuming you weren't brave."
Citlalli's laugh subsided into a smug smile. "I don't know if 'brave' is the right word but they never assume anything about me again."
"Did you ride that day?"
"I did," nodded Citlalli, "and after that, horseback riding became one of my therapies. I don't have to think about anything when I'm on a horse. I don't have to remember anything either."
Even just talking about horseback riding made Citlalli look so at peace and that wasn't something T'Challa saw very often.
She rode the horse beautifully. Like an expert, and she was.
Citlalli had a deep affection for nature. She loved it and always lamented living and working so deep within cities. It was perhaps the thing she missed most from home.
T'Challa never told her but every time she shared her woes for a life closer to nature, he secretly thought about taking her away from New York. He was sure that she would love Wakanda, a place where technology was superb but never taking away the pleasure of the naturalistic simplicity of life.
And now it seemed like she had found her place again.
The stable was on a ranch and it was pretty decent sized. There were only workers, clearly not a place for the public. There were crops on one side and many other typical farm animals scattered around. It was all calm, the perfect place for Citlalli.
T'Challa honestly didn't want to interrupt Citlalli's obvious serenity but it was of no use trying to avoid it. On a turn of her horse, Citlalli saw him and abruptly stopped altogether. It took her a few moments to convince herself that she was not imagining him (again) and that he was very much real.
A few more minutes later and she was off her horse, walking it by its reign towards the stable. She didn't look back at the sound of footsteps drawing closer. She went directly to the horse's spot and ushered it in, closing the gate after it.
"It took you longer than I thought," Citlalli said, finally turning to T'Challa. His brows raised with surprise.
"I wasn't aware that I was being timed," he wasn't the response he was expecting from her. She didn't appear mad at him…
She certainly seemed less mad with that smile that marked her face. "Well, being the King of Wakanda should grant you some speedier tech, right? Or is it all Shuri's domain?"
Definitely not what T'Challa expected from her, and yet it had taken about ten pounds of nerves off his shoulders. "Uh, she does say that she's better at it."
"And she's right," Citlalli side-stepped him and walked towards the entrance of the stables. "So then, to what do I owe your grand visit? Should I expect to see Okoye's grumpy face somewhere around here?"
"I came alone," T'Challa said, following behind her. "I figured we needed to speak…if you're willing."
"Yeah, I'm willing," Citlalli glanced behind her shoulder, still smiling at him which he thought was plain weird. Why wasn't she yelling at him? Telling him to get lost?
Citlalli led him to a quieter place in the ranch - a bench underneath a shady tree. She sat down and patted the spot next to her. "Afraid of getting a little dirt?"
T'Challa couldn't help but roll his eyes. This was more or less their typical way of being. It was strange to say he missed it too. He sat down next to her, leaving a decent gap between them for obvious reasons. "I like this place," he remarked, gazing out at the scenery.
"Me too," Citlalli let out a relaxed breath as she leaned back on the bench, "I am just not a city girl. I thought this would be the perfect place to lay low."
"Lay low?"
Citlalli nodded. "There were some suspicions after Rogers and his crew got away. I gave my statement and quietly slipped away."
"There aren't - Citlalli, there are no accusations filed against you," T'Challa said, knowing it for a fact since he had spent a lot of his time searching for that verification.
"Even if there had been, I wouldn't be there," Citlalli said, flashing a small, yet smug, smile. "I don't intend on ever getting caught. I'm a good adapter. I'm more of a chameleon than a serpent, I guess."
"I think you're both," T'Challa said, "You hide very well, but anyone should watch out if they dare to do anything against you."
"Did you come all the way here to complement my skills?" Citlalli was already looking at him when T'Challa turned his head at her. His eyes softened albeit with guilt. Citlalli knew it well - she could read him so well and he didn't even know it.
He had no idea where to start. He had come all the way here to apologize and he had no idea where to start. He spent the next couple minutes in silence trying to figure out his words so when Citlalli laughed, he was more than dumbfounded.
"I can see the wires in your head short-circuiting," she said, tilting her head at him, "Don't bother. I already know."
"Know what?" he frowned.
"What you want to say."
"N-no you don't. How could you know?"
Citlalli's smile broadened, her eyes growing kinder by the second. "Because I know you. You're too noble not to come all the way over here to apologize about Barnes. I'm just glad you realized he wasn't behind your father's murder."
T'Challa lost his breath for a moment. How could she read him that easily? That correctly? He looked at her completely mortified and yet relieved that she had taken the words out of his mouth.
Citlalli's smile still didn't wane. She looked out at the ranch, ignoring the warm flush on her face. "I hope you know that I'm not upset, and I really didn't need the apology either."
"How could not be upset?" T'Challa asked quietly. "I said so many things I shouldn't have. You were right, I should have listened to you…but I didn't. And you have no idea how terrible these months have been for me. A punishment, I suppose, for what I did."
"You were hurt," Citlalli said, "And trust me, we do many things while we are hurt."
"But not to you," T'Challa shook his head, "I would never want to do anything to you. You have no idea how important you are to me. I felt like I lost you, and it was all my fault." He lowered his head, absolutely guilt ridden. A few seconds later, he felt a warm hand come rest over his. He looked at Citlalli but she was gazing straight ahead.
"You could never lose me," she said, her fingers just barely sliding between his fingers, "I know you too well to fall for some mediocre argument. You're my friend. I would never let something like that get between us. The only reason I didn't reach out is because I knew that you needed your space and you would eventually find me."
"How? How could you know all that?"
"Because I know you, my dear," Citlalli finally looked at him, smiling widely. It was so unlike her. "Bits and pieces - I know you whole."
T'Challa's heart swelled with the feelings he kept bottled up. The certainty in Citlalli's voice - the confidence that she was right - made the ache in his heart grow because how could she trust him that much and he couldn't do that with her before? "I don't deserve you," he mumbled, turning his hand under hers and interlocking his fingers with hers. "The faith you have in me is the same faith that I should have had in you. You saw the truth before I did, and instead of trusting you I accused you."
"It's alright—"
"No, it's not," T'Challa shook his head.
"It really is—"
"It's not because how could I do that to the woman I love?"
Citlalli could only be so subtle at a confession like that. The confidence she had spoken with had definitely waned in those first seconds. "I…well…"
Somewhere in all the misery he felt, T'Challa found a moment to chuckle. "I don't think I have ever seen you speechless before." He took pride for being the one to do that to her. "You didn't see that coming, did you?"
Citlalli blinked a few more times and, with a clearing of her throat, looked away. "Honestly, no." She had been well aware of her feelings a while ago but with those feelings came the reality check. She was once of a noble family which meant she knew exactly how royalty worked. And no matter how super progressive royalty claimed to be, there was always going to be something that would separate them (and that was assuming that T'Challa would actually reciprocate her feelings). He was the King of a whole country, and she was a CIA agent (ex-agent now). There was no way that would ever work. So she settled for a silent love and hoped that with years to come, she would move past it.
"I was horrible to you the last time we saw each other so the only way to solve it is to make a fool out of myself," T'Challa decided to say, shrugging his shoulders.
Citlalli looked in his direction again. "A fool?"
"Because I came all the way over here with the intention of apologizing and hoping that you would forgive me but instead I'm sharing my deepest secret with you hoping you won't throw dirt in my face." T'Challa looked down at the ground, partly in shame. If he had been braver before, he would've done this in a much better way. A way that Citlalli deserved.
Citlalli tilted her head at him, trying to figure him out. "You're not very King-like, you know."
"I've heard," T'Challa said, "Shuri likes to point it out a lot. But maybe that's better right now. For your amusement, of course. Here's the King declaring his love for a woman he already lost."
Citlalli couldn't help it; she laughed. "Whether you're the King or not, you're still so clueless. Do you know why it is that I know you so well?"
"No?"
"Because when you fall in love with someone, there's an innate desire to know everything about them." Citlalli gripped their interlocked hands. "And I have wanted to know everything about you. Every single detail about you, whether big or mundane, is in my heart. So when you were upset, I knew you'd eventually come back from it. You always do. You're a fair and just man."
Her sincerity got him again, only this time he couldn't help it. The instinct was beyond him. He pulled his hand out of hers then grabbed her face and kissed her.
It was perhaps the one thing that Citlalli had not expected. She could not lead how she usually did with just about everything else in her life. And it was fine. She was perfectly content following the most amazing man and his wondrous lips. They parted slowly and even then remained with their foreheads against one another's.
"...it's not very king-like to kiss the commoners either..." Citlalli breathed in.
That sounded exactly like something Citlalli would say, and yet it still made T'Challa laugh. He lowered his head, shaking it as he tried to get himself together. "Agent Del Rio, aren't you ever serious for one minute?"
"Don't blame me...the King just kissed me. What ever am I supposed to do with myself?"
T'Challa raised his head to see Citlalli feigning a shocked expression. "You are not funny," he pointed at her.
"I think you'll let me be whatever I want to be on account of this long-term argument," Citlalli said, quickly growing serious. "I may love you but you still owe me for this."
T'Challa laughed again. She could play the role of seriousness so well that anyone who didn't know her would actually believe her. "Can I try to apologize say, in Wakanda?"
Citlalli's eyebrows raised, her 'seriousness' thrown off. Ultimately, she gave up the game in favor of reality. "Of course I forgive you. You don't need to make any grand apologies. I didn't runaway because of you. I needed to protect myself in case something happened, and it did. I know Rogers is on the run with his little merry gang. And truthfully, I don't regret helping him."
"I don't expect you to be regretful," T'Challa clarified first, "You were right. I only wish that I had listened to you back then. You should know that there are no formal accusations against you. I verified it."
Citlalli smiled lightly at him. "Thank you. You didn't have to do that, though."
"I did," T'Challa nodded, "Because I should have been with you at that moment as well." He reached for Citlalli's hand and gently wrapped his fingers around it. "If I had been with you then, you would already be in Wakanda with me."
"Can you imagine? Me in Wakanda?" Citlalli chuckled. 'I don't think your mother and sister would like that very much. Besides, what am I supposed to do there?"
"Be with me," T'Challa said bluntly enough to startle Citlalli. It was hard scaring Citlalli and T'Challa honestly couldn't remember a moment where he successfully managed to scare her. "I love you, Citlalli. I have for a very long time and I should have said it a long time, shown it, and I failed. I don't want to do that again. I don't want to go home pretending like it doesn't hurt to leave you behind. Do you believe me?"
"Yes," Citlalli answered softly, "I do." She could see his sincerity in his eyes, the fondness he held for her was right there...just for her.
"I know how you feel about 'home', and how you haven't really felt like America was your home. I know this place" — T'Challa made a nod towards the field — "feels closer to you but I don't want you to be alone. I don't want to be without you. Come to Wakanda with me, and we can make it our home. But I promise that it can become your home as well. You just have to be there to give it a your touch."
Citlalli actually considered the idea for a moment. Going to Wakanda sounded completely insane at a first glance but then she thought about it again, this time 'going to Wakanda with T'Challa' and it sprung a whole lot of butterflies in her stomach. "It's...it's crazy, isn't it?"
"Why?" T'Challa challenged her for a good answer. "You already left the States anyways. What's a little further anyways?"
"We're talking about a whole sea!" Citlalli chuckled. "And...well..." she sighed, "Who am I kidding? I could never go back to the CIA. Everett Ross would never hire me again."
"You'd be surprised," T'Challa said, shooting her a pretty confident smile.
Citlalli stared at him a couple minutes, getting the feeling she was missing out on something.
"If you want to go back to the CIA, then do it," T'Challa said, "But I will not leave you again. Do you want to go back to the CIA?"
Citlalli's head lowered at the question. "Honestly?"
"Always."
Licking her lips nervously, Citlalli answered very clearly. "No." She lifted her head and met T'Challa eye. "I only ever joined to build connections and networks. It's so tiresome, T'Challa. I don't even like the CIA..." She laughed sourly, "Bureaucratic knots everywhere. I like the freedom — there is no freedom in the CIA."
T'Challa listened to her attentively. He cupped her face, leaning close to her. "If that's the case, then come with me. You might find your freedom in Wakanda."
"The idea of going with you is, admittedly tempting, but I know how royalty works. This isn't some 'be my wife, aka the Queen or be my mistress' is it?"
"Look at me and tell me if that's what I would offer you," T'Challa promptly requested. Citlalli only looked at him for about two seconds before shaking her head. "When I say 'come with me', I mean it as in...fly back with me and...see what happens. You can stay for as long as you'd like. Decide what you want to do next."
"I don't know what I want to do 'next'," Citlalli admitted, "But I do know that I missed you so much. Watching you leave again is...it's not on my to-do list."
T'Challa started feeling something in his chest — anticipation. He knew what was coming...
"I don't want special treatment," Citlalli said, confirming what T'Challa already knew. "And you better tell Nakia to knock it off with her jokes because I know she'll have them."
T'Challa laughed lightly. "I can certainly promise to try and dissuade Nakia from any jokes but I'm not sure I can do much about the first thing you asked for."
"Why not?" Citlalli frowned.
"Because I certainly won't be able to treat you as if you were the same as everyone else." T'Challa grinned proudly about himself. Before Citlalli could fully react, he slid his hands over his face and kissed her.

Crashing Waves // Chapter 1 // Namor
Tumblr media
Pairing: Namor X POC Reader
Warning: SPOILERS If you haven't seen Black Panther 2 / Violence
A/N: Time to roll out the Namor fics! Because that man had me in a chokehold!
Chapter 2
Tumblr media
You were fuming. Stuck on this stupid military site in the middle of the fucking ocean with two people pole who have no idea what they're getting themselves into. Taking a student's science fair project is one thing, but actually stumbling across vibranium in the middle of the ocean. Yeah that's not good. You have to keep it out of the wrong hands. You promised Shuri. Even if you had to use your powers to do so.
T'Challa calls it being gifted. You call it being cursed. Being able to manipulate things telepathically. Force fields, mind control and shit. Nothing too extreme like Wanda Maximoff. More of a simplified version. Only difference is you can see through other people's eyes.
Shuri always wanted to see you do it in person. Wakanda has done so much for you. Saved your life when Killmonger took over, treated your stab wound from battle, and offered their home to you. I made new friends and found a family. You owe them your life. Queen Ramonda, Shuri, T'Challa. The least you could do was help protect what was theirs
"We should leave it alone! You and everyone else heard what the queen of Wakanda said. We can't just go around stealing their resources!" You shouted as the general stood with his arms crossed.
"Vibranium could be what this nation needs to prevent war. And it's right here at the bottom of the ocean." The other agent spoke and you snapped your head in her direction.
"Taking the vibranium will start a war! Are you guys that dense?" You shouted and then she stood holding her hands out to calm you down.
"Professor. Y/N. Please we are too close to pull back now. The vibranium is right there." She tried to reason with you but you knew the consequences behind this. Especially after hearing the queen's threat. You knew better than to take it lightly.
"And what if the Wakandans show up. If they decide to take more of a lethal approach? That is a war you won't win." You told her as the general walked closer to the two of you.
"Professor, we brought you out here to help us find and secure the vibranium given your abilities. What we didnt bring you here for was to give us a pep talk. Now if you won't help us, you can go back to that classroom at that university."
It's true they came to you because of your experience with Wakanda and the folklore you grew up on. With you knowing the history of Wakanda and vibranium, you were a perfect pick. You didn't however expect them to actually find it.
"My pep talk just might save your ass, general. I'm not talking for my health. You wanted me here because I've been there, I know them. Now I'm trying to help you BECAUSE I've been there. This will not end well for you." You sneered in defiance and he scoffed.
"Fine. We won't need you up here. Take her to her room, and keep her there." You raised an eyebrow as a soldier grabbed your arm, dragging you out the room.
"Ross will hear about this!"
After a couple minutes descending the stairs you were now locked in your room with the soldier standing guard at the door.
"Fucking asshole!" You shouted as you slid your back down the wall to sit on the floor while you held up your hand. The green hue danced around your brown fingers as you stared into the small void it created. You smiled at the memory you had stored away from when you revealed this to Shuri and T'Challa for the first time. How they asked you to stay in Wakanda with them. As much as you wanted to stay, you had to decline because you couldn't leave your younger brother behind. But now your brother is in college and T'Challa is gone. You should've been there. With them. To console them as they did you when your mother died.
"They're making a mistake! War with Wakanda isn't a good thing!" You shouted at the guard and he waved you off. They could be coming for me, you know? I could've contacted them about the vibranium you guys found down there!" You lied through your teeth and grinned when that caught his attention. He turned to you with a horrified stare and you shrugged.
"They are my friends, you know." You started as you stood on your feet walking towards the door. He went to speak before a couple of gunshots rang out and we both froze.
"Did you really contact the Wakandans?" He asked with fear laced in his voice.
"Um no. I was bullshitting you actually. Are we under attack?" You questioned and he readied his weapon before taking a deep breath.
"Stay here." He said and you shrugged.
"Not like I have a choice. Wait, don't leave me down here!" You screamed after him as he went to investigate what was going on. You quickly locked the door and shot out a small green sphere into his back as he disappeared up the stairs where you couldn't see him anymore. Closing your eyes your vision was replaced with the soldier's as he slowly approached the top. The general was now a dead man as he hung from the wall by a spear. He looked up into the sky in time to see the chopper get thrown into the ocean.
The soldier's breathing became irregular as he began to panic so you decided to speak to him. "Relax, just hurry up and radio for help." He jumped a bit, startled by the voice in his head and he sighed.
"I forgot you could do that." He mumbled as he went for the general's radio. "Mayday. We're under attack at the vibranium site. Send a strike team now."
"Copy that. Do you recognize the assailants?" Another voice asked and he looked around. "Wakandans."
"No. These aren't Wakandans." You said and the soldier frowned.
"Then who-" Without warning your vision came back to you causing you to fall over. The soldier is dead. You sat up to catch your breath as you stared at the door.
"Who the fuck-" you started before the sound of the steps reached your ears. You quickly stood with your arm stretched out aiming at the door ready for whoever it may be. The knob turned once before complete silence engulfed the room. You held my stance as some curls fell in your face. Whatever it is, you're ready for it.

Second Chance
Tumblr media
K'uk'ulkan x Reader
How do you hide a pregnancy from a god?
How do you hide a child from their father?
But most of all, how do you tell him?
When you refused to participate in the fight against Wakanda, he made you leave, exiled you from your home and told you that if you ever enter the ocean he would be there to kill you. He would show you no mercy.
He didn't know back then, but you were with child. It was the reason you refused to fight. It was your first ever child, finally, your gods gifted you a child after being married to your husband for so long.
And he didn't even know.
"I will not fight against Wakanda."
"You know what that would mean, My Wife?" you looked at him, confused. "It would mean you will be no longer the Queen of Talokan, as Queen it is your duty to protect your people. You are one of the best warriors."
"I will not fight."
"Then you shall leave my castle! My cave and MY ocean! You do not deserve your title, and if you ever even touch the water, I'll be there to kill you, and do not think that because of our past, I'd show mercy! You betrayed your people! You betrayed me!"
Back then, it was s suspicion of yours. Unable to confirm it with your healers before he sent you away. His eyes filled with hatred and anger.
It wasn't the man you married, the man you loved. This was Namor.
And now, here you were, living in Wakanda as the new Queen was willing to have you in her home. She confirmed your suspicion after the fight, you were indeed with child.
This was all months ago. And now, into your fifth month, you finally felt ready to face the man who broke your heart.
Wearing a light gown but a robe on top of it, hiding your child from their father as you touched the water.
For the last months, you never once entered the waters. Only staying in a tub of water to relieve your thirst as you could live longer without water.
As soon as you touched the water, you knew. He was on his way. You hoped he was calm, you hoped he had time to think. You just stood there, waiting in the knee-deep water.
Couple of moments later, you saw him emerge, with his spear in his hands. Damn him and how amazing he looked. Damn him and how much you loved him. He spoke in your native tongue.
"I told you to never enter the waters again! It was my warning. I will not hesitate to kill you just because once you were my wife."
And yet, he was hesitating.
"I came so you can meet someone." you reached for your robe when he stood in front of you, looking into your eyes, all you could see in his was anger.
"I do not wish to meet anyone. You betrayed me. You refused to fight to protect our nation."
"I had my reason."
"Your reason was that you are a coward." you untied your robe when his spear touched your skin, the sharp edge almost cutting your skin. "Don't make me kill you, leave the water." he whispered.
"I came so you can meet your child." you said as you dropped the robe, letting it fall into the water as you tugged on your dress, showing him the baby bump. "It is a girl. Shuri confirmed it. She is healthy, and often moves around as I feel her kick my ribs." you watched him, tried to read him as his eyes were glued to your belly.
"You-"
"She is the reason why I refused to fight. I suspected I was pregnant and I couldn't risk it. As much as I love the people of Talokan, we have been praying so hard for a baby." you saw him tumble, almost falling to his knees as you started to take steps backwards. He followed you, never once taking his eyes off.
"My Love..."
"Your hate consumed you, Namor. Your hate pushed me away. If you continue with this, you will lose her as well."
"You would take my child from me?"
"Your actions would take her from you."
"How far along are you?"
"I'm almost six months." he finally fell, landing in the water he looked at you with pleading eyes. No more anger.
"My Love, I'm so so sorry. I know an apology wouldn't be enough to make up for my mistake."
"Apologise to your daughter. You know very well, I am a fool who would forgive you even if you kill me. I love you too much." you moved to sit down in front of him in the sand. Letting his arms go around you as he hugged you close, one of his palms on your bump as you felt your baby move.
"My Little One, I deeply apologise for being so harsh. My hatred truly blinded me. I hope one day you will be able to forgive me as well. Your mother is too good for me." he placed a kiss on your belly, right over your thin dress. "Return home My Love. I truly believe I don't deserve a second chance. But I wish to make everything right. I want my daughter to be born where I can be present."
"I wish to go back, but if this happens again, I-"
"It will not. I promise." and now you saw in his eyes, hope, love and determination.

The Study Room (HBCU!Shuri x Black!F!reader)
Tumblr media
HBCU!Shuri x black!F!reader
Word Count: 2.03k
Series Masterlist
Content: nothing but fluff, first meetings, HBCU!Shuri is a warning in and of itself, slight profanity, usage of “y/n” like…twice lmao
A/N: Oh, y’all didn’t see this coming? Me writing for Shuri? Well, here we are lmao, and I plan on writing under this tag A LOT!
As I’ve stated before, I write with the intention of my oneshots/imagines/etc being inclusive, which means no clear description of hair type/color, skin type/color, etc. A lot of my writing has to do with a female reader, but despite this, I still have a few gender neutral fics. WITH THAT BEING SAID: whatever fanfic I post with Shuri, I will alwayyyssss have a black, female reader in mind. There’s too little for us to enjoy in the world of fanfic, bc even when people say they’re inclusive, they still manage to put subtle details in their fanfic that instantly breaks the immersion for countless black, female, fanfic readers.
I will still be as inclusive as I can with any xShuri writings...but I can already tell you, there will be times where I specify a certain hair type, or a certain custom, or a certain tradition that a lot of non-black people will not relate to...and it’s alright. I have other works on my page that are inclusive enough for y’all to enjoy.
But when I write for Shuri, I write for black women. <333
ALSO, the whole concept of HBCU!Shuri was created by the lovely and oh-so-nice @vargskelegore !
If you want to see more of HBCU!Shuri, PLEASE go check their page out! They’ve done a great service for the black fanfic community <3333

You had been sitting in the same spot for the last 45 minutes; hands encompassing your head, eyebrows furrowed, and your lip caught between your teeth in frustration. The words on your screen might as well have been in a different language, as you just couldn’t understand or retain anything you read. It was beyond frustrating, especially as the upcoming exam for the class loomed over your head.
You let out a groan, covering your face with your hands. It didn’t matter that other students could see or hear you through the windows that lined the room, because at least half of them were in the same boat as you.
As you let out a sigh and pressed the heels of your palms into your eyes, trying to somehow force yourself to focus, a knock sounded on the door. It opened right as you lowered your hands, your attention going to the door and the person that walked in. Eyebrows furrowed, you readied yourself to explain how you had reserved the room for the next hour only for the words to die right on the tip of your tongue as you met the person’s eyes.
“Oh. I’m sorry…do I have the right room? This is 253, right?”
The person, who you quickly recognized as none other than Princess Shuri (just Shuri to her fellow classmates, something she was adamant about the second she stepped onto campus), pulled her phone out and checked it. Her eyebrows furrowed as she read what you assumed to be the confirmation email of her reservation, and her actions prompted you to do the same.
Still in silence, you picked up your phone from where it lay on the table, quickly pulling up your own confirmation email only to pause at the words you read. Your shoulders dropped.
“Oh, shit. Is this 253? I thought it was 256.”
“Yeah, this is 253. 256 is currently filled with a group of guys who are having a rather intense game of uno, surrounded by enough food to fill a small buffet.”
At her words, you couldn’t help dropping your head into your hands once more, letting out yet another groan. It’d be hard enough getting their attention to ask them to leave, not to mention, they’d probably leave a mess if they did leave which left you with only a few options. You continued to contemplate your next study location until you remembered that you were in the reserved room of a royal family member.
“Oh, my bad. You’re waiting for me to leave and I’m just sitting here, taking up your time. Let me grab my stuff. I am so sorry.”
A small, almost awkward laugh left your mouth as you hurried to gather your things, opting to just shove them into your bag. You hadn’t even finished before she was setting her things down on the table across from you. Your movements stopped, however, as her hand entered your vision.
“No, please. I doubt you’ll want to go in that room after they leave. You are more than welcome to stay here; I don’t have a problem sharing the room. I work quietly, I promise.”
The crooked smile on her face was enough to render you momentarily speechless as you looked at her in surprise. But then her words registered, making you shake your head.
“I couldn’t ask you to do that after already coming in here and taking over-”
Shuri waved her hand dismissively, making a tch sound. She returned to the door and shut it before walking back to the table. Her feet carried her to your side of the table, though, instead of her seat.
Her smile turned reassuring as she looked down at you, and despite the obvious height difference between your prone, sitting figure and her standing on, you didn’t feel threatened or even intimidated in the slightest. Her voice, despite being soft and almost melodic, held a teasing tone to it that made your own smile appear on your face.
“You’re not asking me to do anything; I’m offering to share this space with you. Plus…”
She stepped closer, leaning over your shoulder to peer at your computer’s screen. She let out a soft ‘mmm’, nodding her head.
“I’m also offering my help. I saw how frustrated you were before I came in, and I’m no stranger to Biophysics and Structural Biology.”
Shuri took a step back as you turned your head to look at her, her eyebrows lifting in question.
When you had woken up this morning, you never would have guessed that Shuri, the actual princess of the sovereign country of Wakanda, would be offering to share her study room and offering to basically tutor you.
You’d be a fool to say no to the opportunity.
“That would actually be really helpful,-” You paused as you thought of a way to address her, but she seemed to already notice what you were trying to figure out. The same charming, crooked smile from before appeared on her face as she stuck a hand out towards you. You couldn’t even deny the way your heart basically skipped a few beats as you took her hand.
“Shuri. Just Shuri.”
You replied with your own name in a soft, almost embarrassing and noticeably shaky voice.
She released your hand, and her smile had the nerve to grow wider as she pulled another chair closer to yours. Her body turned towards yours as she sat, and with all the familiarity that would exist between two close friends, she pulled your laptop so it was situated between the both of you.
“So, where’d you leave off?”
The rest of the hour you had originally reserved plus the hour Shuri had reserved was spent with you two speaking about the subject on your screen. At some point, your computer’s screen had faded to black while you two were occupied talking about things ranging from your favorite, and least favorite, meals in the cafe to the places you both favored around campus. It was rather easy to forget that she was literally royalty.
The conversation didn’t lull once, even after you two had packed up and stepped out of the study room. You were both so engrossed in the other that the stares directed at Shuri as you walked through the library went completely unnoticed; or maybe she noticed them but had learned how to ignore them. You certainly hadn’t noticed them.
Night had fallen while you two were inside, and with the realization of this also came the realization that you two would be parting ways. You tried your hardest to ignore the pang of disappointment as you both turned to each other, the smiles from your conversation fading into softer ones.
“Thanks again, Shuri. I feel like I actually have a chance of at least passing this exam.” You let out a soft laugh, one that she returned.
“Oh, I’m sure you’d pass without my help. You’re smart as hell, Y/N. Everyone needs help from time to time, and I have no problem offering mine.”
Her words made your smile widen, and you briefly wondered if she could tell just how much of an effect she had on you. She had to, right? You simply couldn’t believe that she was so charming and so smooth without knowing it.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that, because I’ll definitely be coming back to you. For help with…schoolwork.” The smile on your face almost turned into a grimace at your clunky words, but it relaxed as Shuri took a step forward, holding a hand out.
“Of course. I’ll be there when you need me. Let me see your phone.”
You were grateful that her attention was on your phone; that meant she couldn’t see the way your breath hitched at her words. They were still echoing in your mind as she handed your phone back to you with a smile. A quick glance at it showed that she had just put her number in your contact list along with assigning a contact picture and name that read “Shuri” with a smiling emoji.
A soft chiming sound interrupted the air around you both, and before you could question what it was, Shuri was raising her wrist up to her face.
“Ikumkani wam , do you have a moment of free time? We have some things to discuss.” A strong, female voice came from the bracelet, instantly catching your attention. It held a tone of authority and something close to a reprimand. Shuri, however, actually looked the slightest bit annoyed at the interruption.
“General, I am actually a little busy right now. I’m with a friend,  but-”
Your eyes must have widened almost comically, judging by the way Shuri let out a quiet laugh. However, where she was laughing, you were internally freaking out just a little. You whisper shouted in her direction.
“That’s the general? As in…general of Wakanda’s army? Shuri, you can’t…it must be important! I can wait or text you later tonight.”
Shuri paused, looking at you with an almost unreadable expression before the General’s voice sounded out once again.
“Listen to your friend. Please. This is very important.”
With a sigh and a shake of her head, she pressed a button on the beaded bracelet that circled her wrist before turning to you and saying your name. Her eyebrows furrowed and an apologetic expression came over her face.
“I’m sorry, but I have to go.”
You were shaking your head before she had even finished speaking, quickly reassuring her.
“No, it’s totally alright, I get it. I mean…I don’t get it, because I’m not, you know.” The smile that took over her face was even more blinding than the first one she had given you earlier in the day. There was a fond look in her eyes and she began to back up, her eyes staying connected with yours.
“I’ll text you later, yeah?”
You could only nod, opting to keep your mouth shut lest the sounds of giddiness were to escape. She reciprocated your nod, gazed at you for a few more seconds, and then she was turning and walking away. You stayed in the same spot until her voice grew distant, and only when you couldn’t hear it anymore did you turn in the direction of your own dorm room, your phone clutched in your hand.
It was only when you had gotten halfway to your dorm, replaying the night's events over and over in your mind, did you realize something. She had said that she would text you, yet you were the one with her number. The realization made you quickly unlock your phone and create a new message thread.
You typed out at least 4 different starting sentences before settling on a simple “hey, its y/n. thanks again for your help”, ending it with the same emoji that sat beside her contact name.
It took you only a few minutes to get back to your dorm, and the entire time, you kept subconsciously checking your phone.
She literally has more important things to worry about, girl.
The General called. The General! Of Wakanda’s Army. She’s not studying you right now. Just go upstairs, take a shower, wash your face, and-
The chiming of your phone didn’t go unnoticed for a second before you were eagerly grabbing it. You were grateful that your roommate was staying elsewhere for the night, otherwise, she would have surely been asking question after question upon seeing how quick you were to read a message.
If she were here, she would have most definitely been curious about who was making you smile so hard to the point where your cheeks were physically hurting.
Your eyes scanned the message over and over until it was finally time for you to get ready for bed; but even as you lay in bed a while later, your eyes on their way to shutting for the night, you couldn’t help the small smile that curved your lips.
Shuri: you’re welcome. Same time tomorrow? :)
You: I’d like that, if you’re free
Shuri: for you? I am. See you tomorrow. Goodnight, y/n
You: goodnight, Shuri :)

Shuri U. || Mommy’s girl
Warning • couples quarrel, swearing, bratty ass kid, mentions kid getting injured, parent life
Genre • idk? A little bit of fluff at the end
Pairing • Mom! Shuri x Mom! Black Reader
Wc • 2.2k
"Nina, please stop drawing on the walls!" You yelled after your six-year-old daughter as she dashed through the house with a marker. Her giggles echoed off the walls as she turned the corner, but before she could run any further, she clashed with something, making an oof sound as she hit the floor.
"Woah omncinci (little one)" Shuri chuckled as she picked her up and placed Nina on her hip.
"Look mama." Nina shoved her marker-stained hands into Shuri's face, "I made art!" Shuri laughed as she took her hand in hers.
"How lovely!" She smiled and kissed her on the cheek before dropping her back to the floor and she quickly took off again.
"Shuri, she's still got the-" Shuri handed you the marker she managed to slip from Ninas hands m. You sighed in relief.
"Calm down, usana, she's just having fun," you rolled your eyes, "she's constantly breaking or drawing on something, which is annoying because I have to clean it," she pouted, grabbing you by the hips and pulling you into her.
"Come on, it's not that bad, let her be, she's just a kid," she began to kiss your cheek then trailed down to your collar bone, you weren't feeling it so you gently pushed her away, leaving her with a puzzled expression.
"It's not fair, Shuri; you barely watch her." As if your words had offended her, she took a step back and let you go.
“Excuse me?”
Normally, you don't start arguments with her, but you were becoming fed up. Shuri loves and cares for her family, and she would give you the world if she could, but she sometimes forgets that you also need her home, not in the lab.
"You heard me Shuri, you haven't been home in days, you spend your time in the lab and then end up sleeping at the palace, we need you here with us, Nina needs you," her eyes darken and her brows furrow.
“I work hard for this family and my country so sorry I can’t be here twenty-four fucking seven, I have other concerns too and do not dare blame that on me you asked to move out the palace” you scoff l crossing your arms.
“Because I desired a more intimate home! Something that feels comfortable not with servants and guards around every corner, gossiping about our marriage and excuse me?! other concerns?! When you asked me keep Nina you told me we would be your first priority, that we’d come first!”
“You do come first! You and Nina both come first!”
You both stared at each other with your faces twisted in anger, you rarely argued like this but when you do it was bad, You were both extremely displeased with one another and needed some time alone.
“You know what Shuri I-“
“Mommy? Mama? Why are you two yelling, are you mad?” You quickly wiped your tears of anger off your face before turning to your daughter.
“Mommy’s going out for a while do you wanna come with or do you wanna stay with mama?” With out hesitation she ran over to Shuri which left an aching pain in your chest. She knew no better but of course she’d pick Shuri, she admires her so much.
“Alright well I’ll be back soon” you left a kiss on he cheek before walking in the kitchen to grab your purse. You needed to clear your mind so you hopped in the car and drove to a nearby cafe and called a friend to join.

“Girl she said what?!” You nodded assuring your friend of what you said was true.
"I know it sounds bad and I approached the situation wrong but every time without fail she lets her off the hook, and I'm the one looking like the bad guy. She spent three days in the palace this week and now wants to return home? I've been dealing with Nina's tantrums, drawing on things, and generally making a mess. I know she's a kid, and I love her, but when I try to discipline her, here comes the all-favored Shuri, who lets her have her way."
You friend shakes her head, “mmh mmh mmh you need a break.”
As you were about to speak again, your phone rang; you knew it was Shuri because she'd been blowing up your phone for the past hour, so you took your phone out of your purse.
“Aht!” Megan warned you, slapping your hand away from your purse.
"But, it could be an emergency; maybe I should just go home." Worry replaced guilt; what if Nina was hurt? What if Shuri needed help with her?
"Listen, you're married to the black panther, she can handle a six-year-old, trust me, you have nothing to worry about." Maybe she's right, you shouldn't feel guilty, you should feel relieved.
Megan grinned as she began to stand “You know what let’s go get a massage I know this great place not too far from here.”

“Why isn’t she answering?!” I yelled in frustration as I slammed my phone on the table. Since y/n wanted to walk out with an attitude, I had to bring Nina to my lab which was a dreadful mistake. She’s been wreaking havoc on the entire lab, she’s manage to break two projects in the span of one hour… and they were made out of raw vibranium.
“Nina please i need you to sit still for mama ok?” She groaned plopping down on her bean bag chair near my work station, I sighed out of relief finally getting her to sit down.
Some time has passed and I managed to finish fixing my vibranium gauntlets, one of the items she broke. It was feeling a little too quiet for my liking so I went to take peek at Nina and she was gone, panic arose in my chest and that’s when I heard a giggle, damn it.
“Nina, my sweet heart I don’t have time for this please come out” another giggled could be heard before she spoke “you gotta come find me!” Bast she was going to drive me insane. I looked and looked but she was no where to be found, how far could she have gone in my lab?
“My queen she’s under that table” one of my scientists informed me sensing my frustration, as he pointed at the table and finally saw her. She just had to pick the table that was littered in sharp objects.
“Alright omncinci (little one) caught ya now please come from under there before you get hurt” she peeked from under it, looked me in my eye and told me no. I took a deep breath in trying not to loose my cool before speaking “Nina Udaku get from under this table this instant!”
“But mommy plays hid and seek with me!”
“Well mommy’s not here right now so come out now,” she grumbled as she began crawling out before she made it all the way out she let out an ear piercing scream.
“OW MAMA!” Frightened I quickly got on my knees and pulled her from under, “nkosazana (princess) what’s wrong, show me?!”
“Mama my hand, my hand!” She held out her hand to me, and in the palm of her hand a sharp piece of scrap metal was plunged in it, it wasn’t big but it was big enough to hurt her small hands.
“Oh baby come on let’s go fix this” y/n is going to kill me, I thought.
“I want mommy” she gripped onto my shirt with her uninjured hand as she cried, my heart sank.

"Doesn't this feel good, girl?" Megan hummed as the masseuse worked on her back; it felt wonderful, but you couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
"I know that look, please tell me you're not thinking about going home," you pouted, realizing how accurate she was. "I'm sorry Meg, but I can't seem to shake this worried feeling, as if something happened, and what's making it worse is that Shuri has stopped blowing up my phone."
Were your girls ok? Should you have walked out like that? What if Nina needs you, what if Shuri needs you? Feeling fed up with the unknown you waved the masseuse away.
"Goddamn it, y/n, when are you going to relax?" Megan followed suit as you both took your robes. She's right, you can't ever relax, but that's part of being a mother; she doesn't have children and has no plans to have any, and you don't blame her; sometimes you even envy her, but you wouldn't trade your little Nina for the world.
"I'm sorry, Meg. I chose to be a mother, which means I have to deal with the consequences; don't get me wrong, I had a good time today, but we can hang out another time," she nodded, sighing.
"Well, tell my little spoiled niece I said hi," you chuckled, grabbing your clothes and purse, "I will."

When you got home, it was strangely quiet; they must have fallen asleep, you reasoned. So, before going to your room, you went into Nina's to check on her, and to your surprise, you found Shuri half asleep with Nina her arms. As you watched them sleep, your face softened.
"She wore you out, didn't she?" Shuri raised her head to look around the room, groaned in a stretch, and nodded.
"You have no idea," you chuckled as you sat on her bed, looking at your little girl and brushing her curls away from her face.
"When she's sleeping, she's so peaceful." Shuri agreed with a chuckle, "yeah when she's sleeping," and you laughed again. You reached for the blanket to cover her shivering body when you noticed her hand was wrapped in a white bandage.
"My baby, Shuri, what happened?" you cried as you lifted her tiny hand. She looked at you, Shuri's face was riddled with guilt "she got injured in the lab- I'm so sorry my love, I should've been watching her." You shook your head, not because you were disappointed with Shuri, but because you understood.
“Don’t worry my love I know. She slips away from you like that” you said snapping your fingers “it’s why I’m always chasing after her” she chuckled feeling relieved.
You kissed Nina’s forehead before getting up, “I think we should leave her to sleep come on” you both softly slid off Nina’s bed and quickly left shutting out the light.
“Look I’m sorry for what I said today you aren’t a bad mom” you reassured Shuri taking her hands to kiss the back of them, she smiled at your action.
“I know my love, and I deeply sorry too. You are also a great mother and now I understand why you’re so frustrated all the time. She’s a handful and I leave you to deal with it” you both sat at the edge of your shared bed feeling guilty about the words you spoke to each other in a time of anger.
You sigh looking down at your freshly painted toes “I was only feeling jealous that’s all.” Shuri’s head tilted in confusion at your bleak confession.
“Jealous? Of what my love? Nina adores you” you shook your head.
“No she adores you, you’re all she talks about, you’re like a hero to her, she wants to become a great scientist and super hero just like you she’s even working a project- which I wasn’t suppose to tell you about it” you remember as you made an oops face, Shuri chuckled pulling you into her lap.
“No you should’ve seen her today, you’re all she talked about ‘me and mommy bake cookies together, me and mommy play hide and seek, me and mommy watch vampire shows together, me and mommy paint together” you laughed a little too loud as she mimics your daughter “to be frank I was starting to become jealous, listening to her I felt like I was missing out a lot.”
You frown realizing something, Nina doesn’t need one parent at a time she needs both of you “I think we should start having designated family day,” Shuri nodded agreeing.
“Mommy you’re home?” You both turn to see your bedroom door open with little Nina standing there holding her blanket close to her chest. She cutely rubbed her eyes with a pout running over to you “I missed you mommy” She reached her hands up to you and you lifted her off the floor.
“Look mommy I have a scar just like mama, it hurt though” she raise her right hand to show you her bandaged hand.
“Awee my little brave girl” you kissed her palm and she giggle.
“Can I sleep in here tonight I miss both of you?” she asked as she crawled to head of you bed pulling the covers back so she could scoot under, you and Shuri chuckle as you watch her.
“Maybe one more won’t hurt,” Shuri looks at you with a hopeful face but you stare her in her eyes muttering a “no.” She sucks her teeth getting up “and you wonder where she gets her attitude from?”
“Hmm?!”
“Nothing.”
