what tags do you use?

#straightbait tournament round (numeral) - for polls from a specific round of the straightbait tournament.

what's your policy on ties?

only a perfect 50/50 counts as a tie. if one bait is even .1% higher than another, they win. i did this because i thought it would be funny and i also want to avoid tiebreaker rounds as much as possible

do you reblog propaganda?

yes! you are free to tag me in propaganda or to send it as an ask, although i will probably not reblog/respond to anti-propaganda. (you're free to make it or tag me though, it'll probably make me laugh)

what are you counting as straightbait?

the definition of straightbait in this tournament is intentionally very loose, and the poll question is also vague on purpose (is it celebratory or derogatory? who knows). i've accepted submissions with more obvious examples of "straightbait", such as cases where m/f couples are teased but never get together or are revealed to be queer. however, i've also accepted couples where they have some kind of weird fucking thing going on that could be interpreted a number of ways but isn't straightforward canonical m/f romance, "buried straights" who die after romance is confirmed, and a number of other things. i go more into this tournament's definition of straightbait here and here.

why is this couple in the tournament if they get together canonically?

see above. in most cases where this question comes up, we're talking about buried straights. if the characters in question are queer, it is straightbait at least partially by virtue of those characters not being straight. and if neither of the above, the answer you are looking for will be in the propaganda.

you're free to argue about the validity of a straightbait in the tags, amongst yourselves, or in propaganda, but please don't come to me about whether a bait should or shouldn't be in the tournament. their inclusion on this blog + submitted propaganda speaks for itself

what is The Policy?

sometimes i rb propaganda posts that i tag with #as per The Policy. the policy says that any time i encounter a post on my dash that is related to one of the pairs in this tournament such that it could be used as propaganda, i have to reblog it.

how were the matchups decided?

i sorted all my submissions into popularity tiers, then randomized matchups within each tier, so characters were matched up with others with equal or similar popularity to the best of my ability. tiers were based on how many submissions a pair received and how well they did in the singles tournament. there were five or six tiers in total, although it's been long enough since i made the bracket that i do not remember the exact number

what is the singles tournament?

the singles tournament was a preliminary tournament that i ran for every pairing or character that was only submitted once, hence "singles". i only automatically qualified straightbaits with more than one submission, so i did this to allow more submissions to enter the main tournament. also a chance to see your blorbo in a poll at least once, even if they didn't qualify

what should i do if you've gotten something wrong?

send me an ask or a message, or leave me a comment! if you send an ask, please specify if you want me to answer it privately, as i will answer publicly by default. although be advised if i've made a typo in a poll option or poll title, i cannot edit it

what should i call you?

i've been referring to myself as straightmod/mod, but you can also call me karinyo! i use they/them, he/him, and ze/hir

En una salida nos encontramos con uno de los famosos que sigue Shao. Ni recuerdo su nombre. Pero el hombre fue verdaderamente amable con mi niño. No solo aceptó darle un autógrafo y sacarse una autofoto con él, sino que, además, le dio un abrazo deseándole lo mejor.

Shao estuvo muy emocionado todo el tiempo y estoy segura que guardará ese autógrafo hasta que tenga hijos para mostrárselos.

Marina tiene el equivalente futurista de un blog de superwholock, con fanfics escritos en portugués, castellano, inglés y francés

Marcos sabe andar en moto, Florencia y Ariel saben manejar autos, Pancho sabe manejar robots gigantes

Melanie hizo cosplay de Asuka de Evangelion una varias veces. Los Biopunks postean un video de ella diciendo “Feliz Jueves!” todos los jueves en el grupo de whatsapp(futurista). Ella no puede hacer nada al respecto.

Florencia es vegana, obviamente, pero le re entra a una hamburguesa de carne artificial de vez en cuando

Más de una vez los Biopunks se han quejado de anónimos boludos en los foros que frecuentan (en el futuro, los imageboards al estilo 4chan son muy populares, especialmente en las subculturasbiopunks) solo para descubrir que esos anons eran algunos de ellos

Ariel aparentemente solo usa las mismas 3 camisas en rotación, y los demás tienen cierta idea de que sigue un patrón con eso. Una vez Florencia le dijo “buena suerte con lavar la ropa hoy!” y no entendió por qué

Marina, como sabe 6 o 7 lenguajes, es la traductora oficial en su pensión. Siempre recibe mensajes y audios pidiendo ayuda con eso. Eso también significa que sabe puteadas y diversas malas palabras en varios idiomas, pero casi nunca las usa...

Marcos, Melanie y Marina van a la misma facultad (aunque las clases prescenciales son menos comunes en El Futuro) así que se encuentran ahí también, por si no tenían suficiente con el club.

Florencia ha probado con crecer yuyos para el mate en su pelo, pero termina teniendo olor a cedrón y yerba lucero por días después, aunque no le molesta también

Ariel mira anime y participa en fandoms de anime pero hace como que no para molestar a Melanie. Siempre tira alguna referencia random en conversaciones y luego se rehúsa a explicar

Florencia es casi siempre la única que riega, poda, etc. su parte del árbol, y vive quejandosé de eso, tiene que hacer todo ella en esta casa

why did I choose my url: it's named after an actress from the 1910s who was known for scamming railroad companies up and down the west coast. I also chose it partially because the fob song title i wanted to use was too long.

Não há praticamente nada que eu possa dizer sobre Devilman Crybaby que não tenha sido dito antes com metáforas floridas ou comentários dos "pseudocults". Na verdade, eu não tenho certeza do que irei dizer. Com certeza Crybaby é o começo do que provavelmente será um amor para com a franquia Devilman como um todo; agora só me resta tempo, porque vontade eu tenho. Então, este é o meu blog sobre o "Devilmacho-Chora-bebê", já que há alguns dias, sentei-me para reassistir toda a série, e fiz isso em questão de dias e, após deleitar-me com a obra, refleti sobre ela por alguns dias para poder fazer este conteúdo. O que há para dizer? E como dizer? é o que eu continuo me perguntando ao escrever isso, além de como estou absolutamente apaixonado pela obra?

Apresentando a obra

A série exclusiva da Netflix é, na verdade, uma releitura da série de anime Devilman, de 1972, com várias alterações para dar uma vantagem decididamente moderna. Mesmo que se baseie fortemente em mídias sociais como Instagram, Twitter e YouTube, como parte de sua narrativa posterior, ainda está profundamente enraizado na mesma premissa idealizada pelo escritor e criador Go Nagai no mangá original. Sobre o que o anime se trata? "Ah, meu colega. Senta que lá vem história". Akira Fudo sempre foi um pouco chorão, e encontra lágrimas escorrendo pelo seu rosto simplesmente quando ele vê os outros chorando ou quando ele experimenta qualquer tipo de emoção extrema. Seu coração gentil, exterior e, às vezes, um pouco idiota, fazem dele o “ridículo” de alguns de seus colegas em outras versões de Devilman; mas, em Devilman Crybaby, parece que ele é simplesmente um simplório sem seu melhor amigo Ryo Asuka, que é seu completo oposto em todos os sentidos. Ryo é um professor que trabalha em uma universidade americana, dirige um carro esportivo e tem uma personalidade extremamente insensível. Neste tópico farei uma pequena review para o blog ficar completo, “😎”.

Narrativa

Narrativa não soa nada muito extraordinário, mas o que Devilman apresenta em seu enredo é algo que merece ser apreciado. No entanto essa não é uma série que eu acho que muitas pessoas vão gostar apenas devido à natureza selvagem desse anime e o que ele contém, então eu não posso recomendá-lo para todos. Provavelmente, enquanto assiste a essa série, você pode se sentir desconcertado por suas imagens eróticas, violência pesada, sangue, mais sangue e até mesmo a sua animação. Apesar disso, embora esse programa possa se apresentar de uma maneira ridícula e exagerada, existe uma mensagem geral e uma história para ser contada na série. Go Nagai até escreveu a série Devilman como um trabalho antiguerra como Nagai sentiu como o tempo passa, chegamos cada vez mais perto da nossa hora mais sombria. "Vai Nagai" afirma: "Não há justiça na guerra, em qualquer guerra, ne há qualquer justificativa para os seres humanos se matarem uns aos outros. Devilman carrega uma mensagem de alerta enquanto avançamos em direção a um futuro brilhante".

Personagens

Os personagens de Devilman não são particularmente compreensíveis, mas são pelo menos incríveis em termos do mundo em que residem, já que cada personagem tem sua própria personalidade, o que faz com que eles se destaquem; por exemplo, você tem a Miki, uma heroína nessa versão de Devilman, que é, na verdade, a filha de um pai cristão branco que dificilmente é algo que você vê em todos os animes de hoje, o qual fornece um pouco mais de detalhes no fundo de seu personagem. Animação + trilha sonora

Muitos dos problemas que as pessoas têm com a animação foi por causa do início da série, mas posso dizer que não é algo que atrapalhou minha experiência com a obra. Talvez isso possa ser porque eu amo o estilo do diretor do anime, que é no mínimo diferenciado e belo, Yuasa Masaaki consegue aplicar o "simples no bizarro" de uma maneira "micta" (😎). A animação à primeira vista é algo que vai levar algum tempo para se acostumar (eu mesmo senti essa diferença ao consumir outras obras do Yuasa), então eu acho que é algo para pelo menos abordar. No entanto, embora a arte e a animação provavelmente não pareçam ser as melhores, às vezes, quando a animação entra em cena, ela realmente traz o seu melhor! A trilha sonora do Devilman: Crybaby é uma das melhores que ouvi e, honestamente, uma das melhores partes da obra. A “soundtrack” é composta por Kensuke Ushio, que trabalhou nas trilhas sonoras de Ping Pong: The animation, Space Dandy e também em A Silent Voice. Se você gostou de qualquer uma delas, certamente vai se apaixonar por essa. A música é bastante diversificada com sua mistura de coro, piano e eletrônica. Sinceramente, não houve nenhum tema que eu desgostei no anime, já que gostei da trilha sonora e senti que a maioria das músicas adicionou mais impacto a cenas específicas da série, o que eles deveriam fazer! Embora o gosto musical seja subjetivo, deixarei sua opinião sobre isso, mas, seriamente, essa trilha sonora é de "chutar c*s de jovens do Distrito Federal 😎".

É uma ferramenta

Seu uso excessivo de sexo e violência não é simplesmente gratuito; eles são uma ferramenta usada para demonstrar a natureza excessiva e, às vezes, repugnante do ser humano. O anime também os usa para brincar com suas expectativas, mudando de imagens sexuais exageradas de peitos saltitantes e momentos de humor para cenas chocantes de alguém sendo devorado por um demônio. E, apesar de ter baldes de sangue para derramar, Devilman Crybaby nunca deixa de ser chocante, e está disposto a ir muito longe para provar seus pontos sobre o quão desnecessariamente violentas e cruéis as pessoas conseguem ser. A obra é mais do que só sua carne se rasgando freneticamente. A série leva a uma alegoria mais profunda sobre o custo de perseguir aqueles que não entendemos. A humanidade começa a atacar aqueles que acreditam ser demônios, atacando qualquer pessoa que eles considerem diferente — uma clara comparação com o fanatismo moderno. Às vezes tentam passar através das sua mensagem uma história mais ampla de que os humanos podem ser os verdadeiros demônios, mas sua aceitação inabalável de histórias como o romance estranho. Há também uma gentileza no amor entre Akira e Ryo, dois amigos de longa data — ou talvez mais. Akira pode ser o suave, e Ryo a sua contraparte meiga e gelada, mas a necessidade emocional um pelo outro faz com que o relacionamento deles seja atraente. O programa tem espaço para muitos exemplos de como não apenas desejamos amor e amizade, mas também compreensão. Os amigos de Akira, Miki e Miko recebem o mesmo tratamento em menor grau; o que começa como uma amizade marcada pela inveja, termina com as profissões de amor de ambos. Intenções verdadeiras dos Líderes + Humanos são Monstros

Eu vou começar com um grande spoiler. Então, se você não viu o anime, esta seção definitivamente não é para você. Nos últimos minutos do último episódio, você vê Ryo se transformar em seu corpo real. Asuka, apesar de querer expor esses demônios, era na verdade o diabo. Ele estava enganando todos e usando Fudo para seu próprio plano de demissão. Embora tenha sido apenas uma reviravolta na história para manter o público até o final, isso contém muito mais pensamento e pensamento. "Líderes". Você vê líderes em toda parte na vida real (não, meu consagrado, não estou falando do Amino). Eles podem ser grandes, podem ser pessoas na sua escola. Mas você não tem ideia do que estão escondendo, eles podem estar tendo uma intenção verdadeira e perigosa, e você nem piscaria os olhos. Ainda assim, os líderes devem ser bons, não? Nem sempre. O anime nos dá ótimas respostas sobre o que anda acontecendo, porque nós simplesmente não sabemos. Mas por quê? Por que eles adicionariam isso ao anime? Acredito que é possível se envolver com as pessoas do outro lado da tela, mas também para conscientizá-las. Devilman Crybaby tem muitos temas e simbolismos em relação à traição e falsidade, assim como a humanidade está convergindo para sobreviver.

Para sobreviver juntos

Sacrifício + amor

Personagens de apoio de todos os lugares começaram a se juntar a Akira e Miki a fim de derrotar os demônios de uma vez por todas. Eu tinha pensado em como todos os personagens eram absurdos, mas, em seguida, vi o seu verdadeiro propósito. Não, não era só ficar com raiva de Miki, bater em todos os episódios, nem tornar-se um possível interesse amoroso. Eles estavam lá por seu próprio sacrifício, que foi junto ao destino. Acredito que isso apenas tornou a série ainda melhor. Agora, haverá uma grande quantidade de spoilers neste tópico, então você pode querer ignorá-lo! Vamos começar. E eu acho que você pode dizer que houve uma espécie de "apelo" no fim do anime. Não podemos sempre esperar que o melhor aconteça quando todos estão juntos, mas também devemos esperar o pior. Eles não tinham isso, e, por causa disso, Akira estava isolado, a raiva indo em direção à humanidade e aos demônios. Mas foram os humanos que mataram seus amigos, e foram os demônios que fizeram os humanos se tornarem inconstantes. E isso começou por causa da negatividade que cercou todos eles. Podemos dizer o que aconteceu foi um sacrifício, mas não para o lado certo.

Não há vencedores contra o destino

O destino se torna absoluto em Devilman Crybaby

Outro spoiler à frente, é por sua conta e risco. Ryo finalmente se revelou como Lúcifer, mas, enquanto falava com o já passado Akira, ficou triste, dizendo-lhe todo o seu plano. Porém, por causa do destino, ele estava destinado a perder, então, sua única opção era obliterar tudo e todos. Quando vemos esse ser poderoso como Ryo, ele aparece isolado e solitário, o que ele despreza no final do último episódio. Eu acho que um dos maiores acordos com isso é que ele acabou sendo derrotado, assim como sua frota de demônios. A profecia foi cumprida. Isso pode não parecer tão simbólico quanto o anterior, contraditórios, os personagens deixaram um impacto. Miki nos ensinou a sorrir nas situações mais terríveis; os Devilman nos mostraram uma diversidade, que não é sobre a aparência externa; e até mesmo os personagens de apoio tiveram um efeito sobre nós. Essa é uma conclusão importante para a série, que une todos os temas de simbolismo e transforma em um só. O destino proclamara ser verdade, e, no final, o público se sente traído. Mas foi tudo para esclarecer os temas pessoais e globais. Mesmo assim, a cadeia de eventos levou a certo destino e destruição.

Conclusão

Francamente, esse anime me deixou em lágrimas e tristeza, especialmente por esses personagens. Eu tinha pensado imediatamente em todos os tópicos de blogs possíveis, e consegui pensar em X. O fim vai ser só isso, porque conclusão é coisa de degenerado.

15 Predictions for the WWE in the coming year

*15 WWE predictions for 2019

The past few years of WWE consumption has undoubtedly been, for the most part, a painstaking undertaking (no pun intended). But what can we say? We are fans, right? It’s the product we love to hate! Even when we have hit the power button on the clicker out of sheer frustration, it is undeniable that for many of us, wrestling is in our DNA. Whether you have fond memories of sitting with a parent or grandparent who loved it, or you were the kid who ran around the playground giving random students stone cold stunners, and telling someone you didn’t like (or did) to “suck it.” It is the reason we congregate on fan sites, video blogs, dirt sheets and the like. To hate it, to love it, to dissect it like that frog in biology. Picking apart every single outcome and possibility to create an equation that make sense to us.

In my fandom, I find it interesting to speculate, as I am sure many of us do. So the following is my attempt to play spoiler to the masses with a list of 15 predictions for the WWE in 2019: Some predictions are bold takes, and others not so much. Here it goes….

1. Drew McIntyre will finally realize Mr McMahons prediction that he is a future WWE champion.

Perhaps not the boldest prediction, as it certainly seems that even before the absence of Roman, Drew was slowly being put in place to have a major run over the next year. Drews first run in WWE left a lot to be desired. Though, in the past he had shown flashes of the aggression that has made him a main event caliber performer these days, it is much more evident that he is more than capable of holding his own as a main event level heel on the main roster. I smell a championship in his near future.

2. Bray Wyatt will become a top tier face.

Bray Wyatt has (what SHOULD BE) one of the best characters in the entire industry. But something is missing, and nobody knows what the hell it is. Not the writers, not the producers, not even Vince. The place went crazy a couple of years ago when a seemingly hopeless character in Wyatt, realized his potential and became the holder of the WWE’s top prize. But a terrible storyline and horrible execution, quickly de-railed his moment on top.

Though we know that wrestling is character-driven, it seems that Brays character is viewed by officials as more over-the-top than it needs to be. There is no need to go back to the supernatural goings on that left crowds stunned during the unfolding of The Undertaker’s story. Bray is very capable of telling his story without tacky images of bugs on the canvas, and House of Horrors matches. If they let Bray BE Bray, they will BE fine. And I am hoping, as well as speculating, that they will in the coming year.

Oh, and it wouldn’t hurt to have him win matches as well….

3. Lars Sullivan will debut…start hot…and fizzle out, all in the same year.

Now, let me start off by saying, I AM being biased. But, that does not mean I am wrong. I look at Lars and I see a freakish looking individual with hands the size of frying pans, the strength of an ox,…..

and the personality of a paperclip.

And not those $1,500 gold paperclips they are selling online at Tiffany’s.

Also, not the paperclip that used to help you use Microsoft Word

(You know what? This might just be an insult to paperclips…but you get my drift). He is not good. He picks things up and puts them down. Even his finisher “The Freak Accident” is the manifestation of being aggressive AND lazy at the same time. Now, I will probably be proven wrong to spite me and other naysayers because the WWE loves that he is a homegrown talent, and they are desperate to create their own stars. I get it. There is just nothing that Lars Sullivan has done up until this juncture that leads me to believe he will be anything worth not taking a bathroom break for

4. The Women WILL main event Wrestlemania 35

I mean at this point it’s a foregone conclusion right? The WWE has one thing they have NEVER had in their history, and that is almost an embarrassment of riches in the women’s division. You have Charlotte, who has already put herself in the conversation as one of the greatest female superstars of all time. There is the only undefeated NXT champion in history, and current smackdown womens champion in Asuka. You have Ronda Rousey who is a legitimate badass fighter, as well as a figure who can draw in the casual fan based on name alone. Finally you have Becky Lynch who has probably done the best job of any woman that my memory serves in getting white hot in an organic fashion. I don’t care if it is two of them, three of them, or all four of them. There is no better story going on this company than the one being told by the Women right now. They are the link between both of the main brands, and have managed to make things even remotely interesting. The main event scene in the womens division is the standard bearer for the entire roster right now. And if they are not the Mania main event, they have been robbed of history

5. Matt Riddle will be the next face of NXT

NXT always seems to have guys who play roles for every generation of NXT. Gone are the days of Tyler Breeze and Tye Dilinger playing the loveable gate-keeping losers that Full Sail loved. No, that role is now reserved for one, Kassius Ohno. And on the flip side, you have guys who join NXT and ya just kinda …KNOW. You KNOW they are there to be champions and carry NXT into the next wave or phase of the brand. With Aleister Black more than likely to be called up any minute once his feud with the (former?) DIY members is done, NXT will undoubtedly be looking for a new face to usher it through 2019, and into 2020. Well, look no further than your resident King of Bros! It isn’t rocket science to see that everybody loves a flip flop wearing board short rocking blonde weed-head, with a theme song that makes you want to dust off your PS2, load up San Andreas and bust a cap in some mark ass busters! (I digress)

This is far from a bold prediction, but it appears Riddle is going to be the man that holds the gold in the coming year.

6. Andrade Cien Almas will win the MITB briefcase

I know I know…You really want me to explain this right? Like what could possibly make me think that Andrade would be the money in the bank holder? Well fear not, for I have an explanation! And that is…that…I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY think that it’s going to happen!

That’s it. Nothing more to see here people!

Seriously though, it would just look good to have him carrying it around with Zelina. And I correctly predicted the two winners last year, so I’m trusting my gut here.

7. The Undisputed Era will be the next big faction

Teams coming out of NXT have gottn really bad deals on the main roster. However, I don’t see that happening for Undisputed Era. There is too much talent and too much personality and chemistry between the four of them, to allow it to go to waste. I predict they will be the greatest faction to make the jump to the main roster out of NXT.

8. Ember Moon will be Smackdown womens champion

Yes, I know she Is a RAW superstar, but with the new announcement that the McMahon family is essentially taking over both brands from….well….themselves? It would stand to reason that the brand split rules will not be as strict as they have been the past few years. The way that rivalries are playing out in the division we COULD see a scenario where Ember wins the Rumble and challenges the Empress of Tomorrow in a continuance of their rivalry from NXT and an effort to finally get that monkey off her back!

9. Braun Strowman is going to break things…. except for his streak of losing to Brock Lesnar

Like honestly guys….at this point, Braun beating Brock is just laughable. You would think that Brock SHOULD lose to a guy like Braun. But seemingly, Brocks weakness is guys that are actually smaller than him. It’s like Brock just can’t catch those little suckers! I don’t know if Braun will ever do more than break things and throw people, and beat up property, and people…with other people. But I know that whatever he does, it won’t be at Brocks expense.

10. The Undertaker WILL NOT wrestle at Wrestlemania

Ok, this isn’t a prediction. It is a WISH. I don’t see anyone on this roster who will benefit from beating him or having a match with him at all. Stay home please!

11. Mandy Rose will win the Womens MITB match

Aleister Black will debut as a heel and exercise Finns Demon

Ooooooohhh! Sounds good don’t it? I seriously have no clue what they are actually going to do with Aleister once he hits the main roster. But I think a feud between he and Finn would be great, especially if we could get Black vs the Demon. I know we like to throw people on SDL from NXT in hopes that they are treated better, but I think Aleister would be a much better fit on RAW right now, since they are thirsty for stars.

There will be an NXT versus Main Roster angle in some way shape or form

I am of the idea that the brand split is essentially in the beginning stages of being over. While that may not shape out this year, I do believe that by survivor series, the whole idea of Raw and Smackdown competing just doesn’t hold the same weight. So barring anything unforeseen, such as renaming the ppv, my next best guess would be another NXT angle. Of course, this current group of NXT stars would be overall, a step up from that last angle.

Miz face run will be a total failure

The Miz is not a face! Mike Mizanin may very well be a great guy who communicates with his wife…loves his baby girl….lets his mother in law follow them around on tv…all of thay. But The Miz?? No. He is one of the constants in the WWE. Everyone knows Miz=very good heel. Idk where they are trying to take his character now after all these years, but I don’t wanna go along for this ride. Nope. Bring back old Miz!

And finally….

THE ELITE WILL SIGN WITH WWE

The WWE is DESPERATE! Though the women are thriving right now the men have no such luck. There are many conflicting reports on the deal offered to the Elite, or if there were deals at all. What was rejected..who isn’t ready….blah blah blah. Listen, the bottom line is that if Vince really wants to get them there, they will be there. Kennys IWGP title run hasn’t gone the way one thought it would be after finally defeating Okada. Perhaps the people over in Japan know something we don’t? Plus I don’t believe these rumors about them rejecting wwe deals are simply to be taken at face value. I believe it’s a tactic to get people buzzing but keep them slightly at bay by sprinkling some doubt in there.

Either way, I expect for talks this year to start heating up out of nowhere and for us to see the former Bullet Club members finally make the transition back to the WWE.
