so! the mer au does have government! schlatt commited voter fraud to be elected as president of the main mer city (called Dragon’s Fall for reasons i will get into later) and a plot point is that ranboo and tubbo expose him for voter fraud (tubbo is actually a government official technically, hes like a guard). q is schlatt’s husband originally (like in the smp) but they get a divorce and q helps take down schlatt. q is not a very good person either because hes helping human mer poachers in exchange for things mers cannot get. so fucked up all around. schlatt doesnt really die, hes just kinda thrown out of the city for his voter fraud crimes.

(also! schlatt is based on what a blobfish actually looks like and q is based on a bluecheeked butterflyfish! if youre wondering where his beanie comes from, that was actually a deal with a human poacher. yes my dream apologism gets in the way of my aus but i dont care. yes schlatt is still abusive. thats why they get divorced)
