My husband made an observation yesterday that Mariner and Boimler are the two different types of Star Trek fans. Boimler is the fan who knows all the lore and has the whole of Memory Alpha memorized. Mariner is the fan who’s like “FUCK YEAH Star Trek is AWESOME!” every time Kirk sucker-punches someone and makes “pew pew” noises while pretending to shoot people with a phaser.

Mariner and Boimler have grown SO MUCH. Like if you watched the series pilot and the season 4 premier back to back you'd get whiplash. Going from spying on and low-key hazing each other to encouraging each other and helping get/accept their promotions. Mariner was looking out for Boimler from the beginning, even engineering a situation where he could be the hero so he wouldn't quit Starfleet, but when he left her behind she held that grudge for a little while. Now she's the one who recommended his advancement, and once again helped him be the best he could be without taking over the situation. Similarly, when Mariner got promoted back in season one, Boimler couldn't understand it and spiralled into a mini-crisis, but now he was thrilled for her. He didn't trust her at all back then, but now he ran to her to handle the situation. I just love them so much your honor.
