Some classic doom gameplay mods and mappacks

So you wanna play some doom? The scene has settled down a little after brutal doom (although game journos will still reference it constantly in what I call the Dark Souls effect) but a lot of really good ones have come up in recent years since I’ve been back into it.

What you need:

A source port. I use GZdoom as it seems to have high compatibility with just about everything. https://www.zdoom.org/downloads

The original doom .wad files, preferably doom2. While doom’s source code was released many years ago, things like the graphics and music are still copyrighted. There is a (thankless) project called Freedoom that should let you run just about everything on this list, if you don’t have an ancient floppy disk or a modern day copy of Doom from steam or something. https://freedoom.github.io/index.html

Also reccommended: Some heavy metal to listen to while you shoot, chop, and explode demons. May I reccommend Demonhunter?

TCs/weapon packs

High Noon Drifter - terminusest13′s most recent complete project. It’s like Deadlands, you’re a magical cowboy using both your eternal nature and some really bad-assed guns to set things right as you see fit. Lore aside, you get a whip and a really powerful revolver to start, the shotgun sounds like god himself clearing his throat, item and powerup replacements, combat slide, and the ultimate weapon is the skull of a demon that can either be used to throw fireballs or summon its owner to stomp around and destroy everything in her path. https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=57098

Suggested map packs to play with this: Ancient Aliens, SCYTHE 1 and 2, RYLAEH, others suggested by Terminus himself in the zdoom thread but I haven’t played all of them.

GMOTA - Go Medieval On Their Asses. A mod I played a bit of while I was thinking about how cool a castlevania mod would be for doom, but ended up being one of my favorites. Turns Doom into a beat em up with swords and combo moves. When you think, hey, wait a second, don’t a lot of maps have enemies perched on distant platforms or require you to shoot switches, don’t worry! Lord Blazko has a harpoon like Scorpion from mortal kombat, a gauntlet that can freeze enemies while he runs in close, and you can always throw your sword because even if it lands somewhere unretrievable you can return it to your hands in a few seconds of waiting. There’s also a Doomslayer character for a more traditional Doom experience of picking up guns and ammo. https://combine-kegan.itch.io/gmota

Demonsteele - Weeaboo angel with massively fucked up dentalwork slashes stuff up real good. Turns Doom into a character action game, complete with Devil May Cry High Time air combos and Table Hopper. You can get through the game just fine with nothing but Hae Lin’s sword, which fills a super meter on every hit on an enemy or every projectile parried - use the sheath to block more easily. Did I mention it converts all enemies into projectile firers so you can parry Former Humans’ bullets? You can then use this super meter to do different attacks from a samurai movie style run-by slash to a beam that bisects enemies in front of you, or power up your guns for more powerful shots. Once you find the BFG, you can also use this resource to activate a kamen-rider transformation sequence and pummel enemies with your fists and feet and even throw out a kamehameha that is strong enough to oneshot a cyberdemon - in fact, cybie is now a powered up version called the devil driver. If you’re a heavy metal fan and like character action games like I am, you’ll appreciate all the references throughout, as well. There’s a second character who is more hong kong action inspired and plays more traditionally for Doom (more gun-focused) but Shihong is a fair bit weaker than Hae Lin, and is unfinished in her current state. https://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=46787

Suggested mappacks: Term said that he considers SCYTHE 2 to be the canon experience for Hae Lin. Anything even vaguely japanese-ish should work and things with lots of verticality and jumping in mind. JCMP, Yomi, hellbound and Dark7.

Castlevania: Simon’s Destiny - I saw this when I was originally searching for GMOTA when it was nothing but a single map that played Vampire Killer and let you whip some candles. It’s a total conversion, meaning it comes with its own mapset full of jumping and mazes. You can pick up subweapons like the boomerang cross and the holy water that work exactly like you’d expect. Reelism - A goofy mod that reminds me of playing tf2 with randomizer on, or Killing Floor. Wave-based survival combat where the available weapons, enemies, and mechanics are randomized each wave. You might get thousands of angry skeletons and have to fight them with flamethrowers while sliding around the floor with ice physics. You might get harmless Bronies and shotguns will spawn while annoying pop-up ads spam your screen. You might have to fight robots with joke weapons such as an assault rifle that only fires SOMETIMES. At the end, you have to fight a boss, and that’s randomized too. Great fun, especially multiplayer if you can wrangle people for it. http://thekinsie.com/reelism/

SCYTHE and SCYTHE 2 - One of my all time favorite mappacks. A mesoamerican theme to the levels, lots of ancient temples and you exit through a stargate at the end of every level. Ancient Aliens - This is a really well made mappack with usually a gimmick on each map. As with most ‘modern’ mappacks, it assumes you’ve been playing doom for 30 years so it’s pretty hard. Otherwise, very very nice. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/aaliens

Yomi - Large, fun maps with lots of traps and ambushes, the occasional keypuzzle. What i’d consider ‘standard’ as far as mappacks go in terms of design and difficulty. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/v-z/yomi

1024 - A mappack where each map in it is 1024 map units. If you think that sounds boring, they play with verticality and gate things off in interesting ways to give even these tiny maps an interesting sense of progression. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/megawads/1024

Dark7 - By the name, it makes me think of ‘Perfect Dark’ from the n64. Lots of running around deserted military bases and stuff, interesting verticality, actual secrets to discover. https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/d-f/dark7

JCMP - Japanese community mapping project. Contains only maps made by the still surprisingly active Japanese doom community. Hellbound - A mappack based around the idea of waking up in an ordinary urban apartment to a city that is slowly descending into chaos. Brotherhood of Ruin - Reminds me a lot of duke nukem 3d’s map design. Key puzzles, interesting enemy placement, lots of fun. According to doom wiki this holds the award for top 10 mappacks of all time! https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/p-r/ruinbros

Valiant: Vaccinated Edition - Valiant is an excellent TC on its own, but Vaccinated edition leaves the weapons and monsters vanilla so that you can run mods with it. To those who think they have enslaved me today

Congratulations humanity: Today (20 January 2021) the American circus known as the inauguration of tooootally legit president Joe Biden took place. Behind tanks and military walls, Biden committed the political equivalent of masturbation by inaugurating himself to himself... with a little help from a few "important" people who were also there, but since they all wore Covidist masks my brain could only make out the NPC ID's rather than names and traits distinguishing them as individuals. A bunch of flags were shoved into the ground where millions of people would normally sit: The citizens by and for which he was allegedly elected couldn't be there for his inauguration, partly after it was discovered they're not citizens at all but mobs of insurrectionists who are invading their own selves! The empty streets and barbwire fences holding that pesky population back did a great job portraying the inauguration of a president voted by the majority... you could clearly see how loved by the people and legitimately elected he was! My only regret is that Lady Gaga was involved in this spectacle: They should have brought in 50 Cent or Justin Bieber, which would have done an even better job portraying the seriousness of the event and the lucidity of the people who rule us. Biden himself broke a new record, being able to read a speech from his laptop for 10 minutes straight without ever stopping and asking "wait... where am I, who are you people".

At this point the ones who radicalized society and sparked a silent civil war are close to gaining absolute power and becoming an American CCP. I'm well aware of what their next step is: They will harass and terrorize everyone who doesn't bow to their ideology and way of life, by painting them as racist Nazi extremists or a danger in other ways, inoculating systematic fear toward them to the masses. That's how over the past years the Democrat party turned most Americans against its political opponents: Obsessively associating Trump with hate while creating a cult of social justice worship which infiltrated every fiber of society. People happily bought it, even most beings I know are affected by this without even realizing something is up. The ruling elite now has a system of radicalization that works perfectly, ready to be used to program the remote-controlled masses against anyone on command.

As of 2020 the existing system is backed by an imaginary deadly pandemic, which now has an imaginary vaccine to accompany it. The infamous virus story was used to double down on what was started using social (in)justice over the last 4 years, further radicalizing people through fear using a new excuse via a secondary system. This one's more convenient since while you can't tell who is a Trump or Biden supporter just by looking at their face, those of us who don't dress up in cult uniforms (A.K.A. wear a mask) can be easily identified as ideological enemies and targeted for dissent... obviously under the cover of esoteric microscopic shenanigans used to proclaim invisible danger, it's definitely not an ideological dangers they truly fear. We're now divided between those who worship COVID-19 (or rather fear of it) and those who are fighting against ruthless slavery and savage efforts to take our lives away from us. We're about to be divided between "the plagued" and "the vaccinated" soon; I have no doubt that those of us who won't respond to the advances of the medical rapists chasing us with syringes are in for a new wave of persecution, applied brutally and systematically in hope of making us break, until we choose to let ourselves be injected with whatever poison those psychopaths created in their labs.

Now do you think it's just pro Trump people, or those who refuse to wear the muzzle made of cloth, who they will come after in the end? To every niche community who is reading this... furries, bronies, vore, etc... never forget those words: Their system will turn on you too! Once they're seen as an obstacle, they'll infiltrate those communities to "correct" them next... or if they can't or it's not worth it, they'll use fear to convince the majority they're evil and must be exterminated for the greater good. What the hell do you think I kept trying to prevent!? Do you imagine their "great empire" of obedient and socially responsible workers has any place for those like us in it?! Look at what Furaffinity, a furry art site that was infiltrated by Antifa and has its TOS written by its extremists, is now doing to artists who draw not just "socially unjust porn" but even stuff like political art under the lie of fighting hate! No... it's not "just them", no community or individual is safe from their control I assure you.

Many of us will resist until the end: They can put 100 Bidens in power... they are nothing to me, they ceased impressing me long ago; My mind has been prepared since an early age for dealing with this sort of thing, I'm a veteran when it comes to this shit! I lived the last years of my childhood waiting to be kidnapped and taken to a reeducation clinic by everyone around me, where I expected to be tied up and subjected to electroshock conversion "therapy" to have my identity erased. Especially once I realized in what danger I was for imagining thoughts forbidden to people under the age of 18 from my young age... were society able to read my mind and notice, I would have been locked away in a mental institute and injected with drugs until I'd be a vegetable today. But I was smart enough to stay silent and escape, they couldn't access my thoughts to know who I am. The same people who couldn't "purge" my identity when I was young are now back in a far more hideous and demented form, coming after us even as adults to do the same thing: Reprogram us to be ideal members of the glorious society they have planned.

All humanity had to do was simple: Put an end to all doctrines and create a neutral and disinterested government, leading to a world that would keep its nose to the pavement and not care about any social issues any more. Why do you think I supported Trump... because I have any love for that conservative fool? I sided with him because he was going to maintain a safe ignorance... no morals, no empathy, no more being forcefully "protected" by disgusting strangers who allegedly care for you or know better than you, no laws censoring people under the pretext of fighting harm, everyone kept in ignorance so we could be safe from their feelings and assumptions. That's why I waited for the army to arrest Biden today and hold a military trial instead of that silly inauguration... sadly they received a new order, he was allowed to carry on with his sham inauguration for reasons beyond me. Now I have a new desire: I'd like to see Trump arrested! For failing to contain the moral plague enslaving society and destroying our freedom, after he promised us the deep state and its social justice would be exposed live for the world to see what they did. He failed to contain humanity's stupid values and protect us from morality... he is of no use to me either, he could not bring us true freedom.

Just one question for the actual tyrant lovers, who will soon flock and regroup under Biden in their attempt to amalgamate us into their responsible world: How's living the socially responsible life really going? Do you enjoy your slavery? Your blind dedication to "muh fellow man"? This self-sacrifice bullshit, a life free of any joy in the name of safety and protection? You have what you wanted: A world where any dream of being happy is demonized because it's dangerous, where certain thoughts are carefully restricted to certain people, where you're the slaves of "experts" who will inform you what you think and feel without you even having to bother to checking your own mind! How long until it will be YOU that breaks? How much servitude can you take before you too will have had it? Or maybe you're so dedicated that you'll slave away until the end... never snapping, not stopping to wonder how sad and boring this life is and how pointless any sacrifice. What would happen if you knew the technology to give you a perfect and safe life exists, while all significant issues society still faces today are man made, most of the time intentionally? I see more violence and crime on the news: People are finally going nuts and losing it, from being locked up and having masks forced onto their faces! How much until it's finally enough, how much pain must they accumulate, how much damage must they cause, how much until the mainstream finally admits it drove everyone there by forcing its madness on us?

I know they want to see me suffer for resisting them, all their governments and secret services do. But the fun thing is, their followers are suffering far more in the end! For I am the one still sitting here up on my throne, from which they couldn't take me down and make me "socially responsible adult" like them nor involve me in their scary fantasies. I live in the real world: A world that has no issues other than some poverty, where racism is a thing of the ancient past and a joke to worry about today, where viruses are a microscopic fantasy... a modern life where anyone can do whatever the hell they want! Just what we would all have if only everyone simply minded their own business and didn't make a big deal about anything. Now that's reality... the reality they renounced in order to worship fear, for no reason other than getting sick of being too happy! I'm laughing at their burden and all the efforts they make for nothing, fighting against things that don't exist... a burden they could let go of anytime, if only they refused to keep accepting all them responsibilities and demand it. How does it feel like to be the fools in the end, just when you thought I was your victim forever? Because while you pull that mask tightly on your little face to protect "your fellow man" from something that's all in your mind, I piss on it all and still live life freely and happily, the life you allowed taken away from you for no reason! Do you hate me for outsmarting you? I definitely don't mind if you do: Hate is all I have left to feed on in a world like this. And I enjoy it even more knowing no one will ever know nor even be able to comprehend the true reasons why I do this.

You hypocrite. I'm only watching and commenting on this video because this is mainly about my significant other. Before the opening credits roll, I'm pissed. "Self created delusion"? Yeah, that seems to fit you more than it does him. You've deluded yourself with your echo chamber and your disabled like/dislike bar and removal of your comments. When Voice sees someone criticizing his own work, he takes it into account for his next review. Heck, he dedicated an entire video to the mistakes people pointed out in his Friendship is Witchcraft review, and promoted a response video to that review. Why? Because he knows his opinion isn't the only one that matters.

Sure, trash talk me for White Knighting my boyfriend, someone who I've known intimately for three years now, and then give the strangers who do the same to you a pat on the back. Because I deserve to be criticized for defending my boyfriend, then your followers deserve to be criticized for defending someone who they’ve never spoken to, let alone had a conversation with, beyond YouTube comments. And this wasn't even on Voice of Reason himself, but on someone who commented on this video from THREE YEARS AGO, who Voice just so happened to agree with. And I agree with that too; form your own opinions, don't take someone else's word as the Law of the Great Imaginary Friend in the Sky. And his, and the commenter's, claim that you don't let people speak their opinions is 100% correct. If you did, then you wouldn't be removing comments because they proved you wrong and would have the like/dislike bar enabled so people can show you how much they agree, or, God forbid, DISAGREE with you. You never TOLD people they're not allowed to have their own opinion, but you sure implied it in the form of your actions. "It's the attitude of giving your opinion in a public setting... and then expecting nobody to make an actual rebuttal." You clearly don't, otherwise those rebuttals would be visible, now would they? Now if that quote sound familiar, go watch this video again.

Yes, you can respect someone else's opinion even if you disagree with it. For example, most of my family is full of Trump supporters while I'm politically ambidextrous. They have a right to their opinion. I'm not gonna chew them out on it. If I say that I think that Trump is a bad president because of so-and-so reasons, they'll respect it in return. I don't try to convince them to say that they are wrong that I am right. You do. I don't try to censor my family's views. You do. I don't chew them out in public/on social media to humiliate them and use my followers to pull out the torches and guns and harass them while I play the victim. You. FUCKING. Do! And you constantly lose your cool when others imply that their opinions are better than yours. That's why you censor and disable the like bar, isn't it, Lily? And as for that vaccines=autism argument, at least nobody from the show staff will be fired because Starlight Glimmer is “objectively” worst pony. (There’s a difference between opinions on CLEARLY subjective matters and opinions based on scientific facts).

Besides, remember who the target audience of this show is: young girls, barely preteens. Funny since you recognized this in your video, "Guard Break", but then say that opinions not as thought out, like that of a typical young kid, aren't worthy. They're not expected to elaborate on their opinions because THEY ARE KIDS! Sure, a kid who can explain why they like or not like something is good, but the average kid isn't expected to give a five page essay as to why they don't like vegetables. You're like those bronies who make little girls cry at the toy store because they don't have a "good enough" reason as to why so-and-so is best pony, nor can they recite the entire dialogue from an obscure episode from memory. YOU are part of the problem as to why bronies aren't taken seriously. Sure, you say that you wouldn't engage in this type of conversation with small children, but small children DO find their way to YouTube and could very well stumble upon this video. And that's not even counting those who lie about their age just to get an account and comment on videos like this.

You know what, Lily? It's these "thought out" opinions that usually suck viewers in. You use long words to make yourself sound smart, when really, you're like Stephenie Meyer; who frequently uses "chagrin" because it sounds oh so smart... even for sentences that shouldn't even use "chagrin". Heck, I'll even compare you to Quibble Pants, using fancy jargon to make your opinions sound more thought out than they actually are. Everything you said about Quibble Pants can easily, if not moreso, apply to YOU. Those words are like honey and these flies that are your subscribers are drawn in because, "Hey, he sounds like a smart guy! I should subscribe!"

And I used to be subscribed to you. I used to like watching your content because of your "thought out opinions" on the characters, episodes, songs, and themes. But I started becoming wary of you with the Sapphire Heartsong drama. This is the final straw. Not just for trashing my boyfriend, but for basically becoming the characters in the show you LOATHE the most! Starlight's super-controlling nature to the point of figurative mind roofies in the form of Quibble's dialogue.

But hey, since you don't count people criticizing you for not respecting others' opinions, and since one can only have a “civil” conversation with you by frenching your lower lips and blindly going agreeing with you, I guess this is okay. And changing your opinions to be "right" I guess is okay too. It's not like people use conflicting opinions on Trump from Obama years ago to say, "See? Obama is wrong! He secretly likes Trump!" Yes, opinions can change over time, but it gets fishy when your opinions just so happen to change because it's considered "wrong".

And on that note on throwing a hissy fit when you're proven wrong, you tend to do so FAR more often than you claim your competition does. You're sulking right now. If you weren't, then you wouldn't be making this video. Heck, you wouldn't have made ANY videos calling out other bronies, and I don't subscribe to this BULLSHIT drama!

Fuck you to the deepest pits in Hell and may you be tortured with these "differing" or "not as worthy opinions". Go ahead. Block me. Send your followers to harass me. Make a fucking Glass of Water on me. I don't give a damn. Next time you decide to insult my boyfriend, I’m doubling back even harder.
