Dialogue prompts for gifts the team gave Natasha Romanoff their first Christmas as a team circa 2012.
I provide the prompt you decide the gifts!
Tony:
“You know I’m going to tell Pepper about this right?”
“Oh I’m counting on it Miss Rushman.”
Thor
“I-um thanks? This is unexpectedly sweet!”
“Lady Jane helped me pick it out. On Asgard we have a similar festival called Juul.”
Bruce
“How did you know I knew Latin?”
“Tony told me. It’s the language of science after all.”
Clint
“Is there a reason you’re dragging me away from everyone at the party? I wanted to see what Steve got Tony!”
“He got him a hat. Now close your eyes or you’re going to ruin it!”
Steve
“You do remember that I’m Russian right, well was.”
“Well, I might’ve been under the ice for that one but Bruce said it was a draw!”
Feel free to use for your fics, prompts, fan art!
Have fun!
Oh but tag me because I wanna see what y’all come up with!!
((Single-handedly trying to revive the domestic avengers tower fics with this prompt 😭 (such good times!)))

Behind Closed Doors
Tumblr media
'Appearances say a lot about a person' at least that's what the saying had always been. Perhaps it should have included 'or do they' at the end of that phrase. Looks or appearances, however, have only ever been deceiving if one thought about it. Even the most beautiful of roses are covered in thorns that blend in all too well with the stem of the flower.
To look at Bruce was to see someone that was intelligent, sincere, reserved, unassuming, and unbelievably patient. Bruce Banner was perceived to be incapable of hurting a living thing whether physically or verbally. He was a pacifist, a lover not a fighter as another famous saying quoted.
He was the definition of sweet & adorable in your presence but also self-conscience of those around him. The color that'd flood his features, the shy smiles when you'd hold his hand in public. He was flustered beyond comprehension receiving any form of affection from you in front of people.
Bruce just didn't seem the sort of taking charge but behind closed doors that meek scientist was a whole different story. His reasoning for the change was simple, it was you. You brought out a side within him he never knew existed. He stood taller and spoke with confidence, his voice deeper & more assertive.
That side of him knew what he wanted and didn't waste time debating and weighing the pros & cons of it. Behind closed doors, he'd become a man of action. Unafraid of what others would think because your opinion was the only one that mattered.  Your attentions were the only one he needed, wanted, craved.
A shut and locked door turned Bruce into a feral animal in a way. He was watching you with hungry eyes, stalking you around the bedroom. He managed to funnel all that pent-up frustration from the attention you'd given him in public from something as mundane as a quick peck on the cheek into the most explicit leg-trembling earth-shattering headboard slamming into the wall sort of night.
Funny how a closed door was all it took to get that man to release his wild side. To let loose and accept that he could be something other than Dr. Banner or the Hulk. A locked door and you were all it took for him to feel free for the first time in his life, to feel safe and understood.

"I love you."  Those words repeated in his mind.
She said those three little words with more honesty than he'd ever experienced and yet he refused to believe them.  The pain etched on her face burned forever in his brain.  An image that would never part from him no matter how he tried.  How quickly her expression had gone from nervous to hopeful to utterly crushed in less than a minute.
All verbal communication escaped him hearing her bear her soul, rattling off words he never associated with himself.  Unable to believe, unable to comprehend the possibility of them so he left.  He got up from his lab workstation and left without even looking back at her.  Bruce did what he always did, he hid away from the world and emotional possibilities.
The ramifications of his actions would haunt him for the rest of his life, she was nowhere in sight when he finally returned.  No one but Bruce knew what transpired between them but worse was that it took four whole days for anyone else to question her absence.  By then it was too late, she'd been scooped up by Hyrda.
There wasn't a resource that hadn't been used to find her location but hope started to dwindle when the days had turned into months without so much of a hint at where she was.  A full year had flown by before Cap and Bucky had found a Hydra soldier in the wrong place at the right time.  He smugly regaled the 'conversion' therapy that had been on her.  How confident Hydra was that they finally had a weapon one would least expect.
The woman she was before wasn't what they found.  Suffering from severe anxiety, and PTSD.  She wouldn't let anyone near her, not a soul or machine.  Her whole body would tremble and shake and she'd started to scream when she was touched.  Rocking back and forth curling up into a little ball mumbling to herself that it 'wasn't my fault'.  Over and over again, 'it wasn't my fault'.
It didn't take a doctor to notice the physical changes lie her skin was pale almost shimmery.  Her eyes were affected by bright lights and those that did manage to touch her skin couldn't explain it to the others except it somehow felt textured and unhuman.  But nothing compared to her freakouts near water.
She refused to go outside if it was raining.  Wouldn't go near the sink in the kitchen or the pool, avoided anyone with water altogether.  The others just figured it was a trauma response and thought maybe water had been used as a form of torture.
It'd taken her months before she tried to go about her life, tried to go back to normal.  F.R.I.D.A.Y. had alerted the others that indeed something had been done to her in her captivity.  Her genetics had been altered and tampered with, but the exact nature was unsure.
Her PTSD prevented her from letting them 'exam' her, never mind getting blood that just wasn't gonna happen.  Plenty had tried to speak with her about it, tried to coax what happened to her out but she'd only shake her head and mumble 'it wasn't my fault'.
Just when it appeared that all was back to normal, of sorts, Clint had accidentally tripped the sprinkler system in the Compound.  Her scream was heard echoing throughout the living quarters as she scrambled dashing towards her room.
"No, no, no, no!"
Since her rescue Bruce was always near, trying to find a way to apologize.  A whole year he spend wracked with guilt and hatred for what he did.  If he would have just sat there, maybe asked her for a moment to process it all.  Or told her that he couldn't believe it because he just couldn't fathom why someone like her would be in love with someone like him then she never would have been snatched up by Hydra.
Racing behind her as fast as he could to catch up to her.  Through her bedroom door, he could hear fans blasting in her room.  The smell of an ocean breeze wafting from the crack at the bottom of her door.  Bruce entered without a knock, frightened for her well-being to find her in the middle of a group of fans blowing air on her, towels wrapped around her from her feet to her chest.
Too busy freaking out and crying to notice him.  The pain in her voice, that agony eeking out through her broke him.  Broke him down to his overanalytical soul.  Her skin was glowing, bioluminescence flooding the room with an eerie glow.  Her hair appeared as if it was floating around her like it was wafting in invisible water.
"Get out!" She bellowed not looking at him.
Her voice took on a different tone, almost like water flowing over stone.  Her words held power to them creating a need to walk closer to her yet also the overpowering urge to walk away.  His legs moved of their own accord, step by step moving out of her room.  He had no control over himself or his movements until Hulk took partial control.
He could feel the Hulk scratching at the surface of his skin.  It was like two magnets being forced together.  Pushing and pulling, fighting against each other.  Hulk was bellowing in his head, telling him 'no', telling him to fight it.
"What the hell?" He screamed dropping to his knees panting for breath.
They could hear footsteps in the hallway, Bruce turned in time to see her door slamming shut of its own accord.  Watched the lock turn itself snapping the world out as their friends pounded on her door pleading for her to open up.
"Go AWAY!"
Maddeningly tried to dry herself off but her words aimed at those on the other side of the door took hold.  Bruce could hear them walking away.  Heard the confusion as they questioned just what in the hell was happening to them.
"I'm a freak."  Her voice was barely above a whisper.
The words made him flinch, how many times had he said that about himself?  Bruce knelt beside her slowly moving away the towels.  There was no attempt on her part to stop him, she only hung her head in shame at what he would see.  Shimmery scales in soft pinks and seafoam greens, a long tail with fins instead of legs.  She was the very embodiment of the fairy tale mermaid, a modern-day daughter of Posiden.
She didn't move a muscle when he reached out to touch her.  His fingertips grazed over her scales, his touch causing a ripple effect in their color where he touched.  The color flickered and changed like a crystal in sunlight, bedazzling and psychedelic.  Bruce was completely and utterly awestruck.  Running his fingers up her arm and through her hair.  She was as beautiful now as she was before.
"Did... did they do this to you?"  Clasping her fingers through his as he sat beside her.
"Sort of," sniffling back tears, carefully trying to control her voice knowing what she could do with it.  "I don't know, I just remember lots of pain and them constantly trying to drown me.  I remember them trying to get me to hurt people and ... and I tried not to but every time I spoke..."
"Like a siren."  her gaze finally met his as she nodded.
"Once they figured out my voice thing I was muzzled like a rabid dog."
Bruce for the life of him couldn't stop the flood of tears that streamed out.  Couldn't stop the heavy wail that lodged in his throat.  Overwhelmed, wracked with guilt, livid, and gutted at what they'd done to her.  if he'd never walked away from her that day.  If he would have stayed.  If he would have asked her why she said it, why she meant it, why him.  None of this would have ever happened.
"I'm sorry," his dipped low, shoulders shrunk in on themselves.  "It's all my fault, I didn't believe... I couldn't fathom..."  He tried to let go of her hand but she wouldn't let him.  "It's all my fault."
"They would have gotten me eventually," she leaned her body against him, her cheek resting on his shoulder.  "They wouldn't stop jabbering about me being 'special'."
"Like a mutation?"  Bruce sighed resting his chin atop her head, hand rubbing up and down her back.
"Mhm, something about dormant genes that needed to be released."  Feeling a sort of relaxation she hadn't felt in over a year being that close to Bruce.   "I'm a freak, cuz in reality I always have been."
"You're not a freak,"  holding her chin in his fingers and peering tenderly into her eyes.  "I'm a freak, you're ... you've always been an out-of-this-world knockout that was outta my league."
"Thought it was the other way around."  The ethereal smile that soared across her mouth sent his heart thundering in his chest.
"I wish... if I could I would have handled that night differently."  Thumb running across her jawline.  "Love wasn't something I thought possible for myself and that was fine. I came to terms with that a long time ago but then you... you made me want it for the first time and it scared the hell out of me."
"Don't think I could have lasted as long as I did with Hydra if I hadn't been thinking about you."
"Me?" Scoffing, feigning offense as he put the back of his hand to her forehead as if she was speaking out of feverish dreams.  "Think you need your head examined."  Both shared a whispered laugh.
"Ya know," eyes focused on his lips.  "I meant what I said and frankly I still do, but if you don't it's..."
Bruce kissed her silently.  Cupping her cheeks he put everything he could into that kiss.  A year's worth of worry and regret.  Put in all the love he didn't think he was capable of into it.  He let that simple kiss say everything that words couldn't.
